**Hello friends, good vibes to all.
When I saw a while back that there was going to be a new production of Suicide Squad I was excited but also a little fearful that it might be another monumental flop as indeed its 2016 predecessor was; it's just that if DC has made bad movies that one has to be in the TOP 3 for sure.
And that is the eternal comparison between the two great universes: Marvel and DC and how the first one has ALWAYS been ahead of the second one in terms of quality and production. But that has changed lately with Zack Snyder's Justice League and now with this gem from James Gunn, because yes, it's a gem that I didn't expect to like so much and that I left the movie theater very pleased with. So let's talk a little bit about it.
- Argumento // Argument.
The story is basically the same as in 2016, we find ourselves in a prison where the most nefarious and terrible villains are under the control of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), characters that will be chosen to carry out a very important mission on a remote island in the Caribbean and all under a crude blackmail full of threats.
To begin with we have already known characters such as Harley Quinn and Rick Flagg, but the difference is that in this film we are introduced to several villains that we did not know or are very little known: Polka Dot Man, Bloodsport, Peacemaker and Ratcatcher, to name a few. It won't take long for you to grow fond of these villains, especially King Shark, one of the top villains in this movie. By the way and as a curious fact, the voice of King Shark is done by Sylvester Stallone.
Going slightly into the mission I can tell you that it is more or less what you can see in the trailer: as I said, it is about going to a Caribbean island ruled very clearly by an anti-capitalist government and anti-American values in order to stop these military to release a big monster who is in a Nazi laboratory that represents a great danger to the sovereignty and national security of the United States.
- Opinion.
The first thing I want to tell you and for which I am very grateful is that this film is R-rated (for adults), and Warner "takes off the mask" colloquially speaking and we see as an acceptance of all this very explicit violence that we can see throughout the film. We see a lot of blood and hundreds of corpses to the point that it is very possible that some may not feel very comfortable to say.
And yes, we are facing a violent and very graphic film where we have to remember that these "heroes" are not exactly a representation of peace or hope, they are bad guys and that's it. Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) is still without a doubt the big star, but this time we see her a little more reckless and dangerous and that is appreciated, plus she possibly has some of the best action scenes of the whole film. In short, showing off her origins in the depths of Gotham City.
We have to talk about Bloodsport (Idris Elba) who is the parallel of Deadshoot (Will Smith) in this new title. Clearly the resemblance is very reasonable both physically and in terms of character depth, i.e., both have problems with their daughters and happen to be the "bully" of the group. It's not bad, not at all, but I did have a little trouble seeing the differences. Peacemaker (John Cena), this WWE wrestler is characterized here by his lines full of humor that really look good and of course, the action scenes, something he knows how to do quite well.
To conclude The Suicide Squad is one of the most entertaining movies and therefore one of the best DC movies of the last few years, plus you can watch it without having seen any of the other movies that make up the DC universe. I think as they have been consistently failing with the real superheroes, they are redeeming themselves with these villains who will clearly have more sequels in the future.
There is a good use of the R category, at all times something ALWAYS happens, never leave the viewer with boring passages, the characters are well armed and do not end up being ridiculous or buffoons and has its point of comedy that really complements very well. I highly recommend it, it has a duration of a little more than hours and is ideal for those of us who like this kind of stories. A solid 9/10 for the franchise managed to amend the terrible mistake of 2016.
