Special Ops: Lioness - Season 3

It’s incredible! This third season of Lioness is the best of the entire series so far; they’ve really managed to raise the bar this time around. Everything we love about the show is brilliantly executed in this third season. Paramount hasn't confirmed a fourth season yet, but this one has been so good that I'm sure the announcement will come soon. (Plus, the season finale reveal lays the groundwork for the next one.)

Plus, it’s a series from the current "King of Television," Taylor Sheridan. He’s already at the top, on par with other legendary creators who made history. The number of projects he currently has—and everything else in the pipeline—is massive. He still has three years left on his contract with Paramount, and when that ends, he’ll move to NBC, so there are plenty more projects ahead for this showrunner.

Of all the series Sheridan is involved in, the only one I stopped watching was Tulsa King; however, I recently heard there will be a spin-off titled Frisco King, starring Samuel L. Jackson. Another piece of good news I saw recently is the confirmation that another Yellowstone prequel is in the works, possibly set in 1943. By the way, there’s an unresolved issue regarding people claiming Sheridan plagiarized the idea for Yellowstone; I don’t know all the details, so I’ll wait to see how that mess plays out. He certainly has enough money to handle it.

The third season of Lioness breaks away from the previous two; the central focus isn't just a single, specific mission. The plot takes a surprising turn when the team suffers a brutal, unexpected attack. Furthermore, the story unfolds across two different timelines. This gives it a much more frenetic pace than previous seasons: there’s no wasted time; it’s a race against the clock. There’s plenty of drama, too, but this time Joe’s daughters aren't as foolish or annoying as they were in the first season. That said, her husband is still a fool. Joe is the woman, but she’s the alpha; he’s one of those weak male characters, trained like a puppy. That nonsense about refusing to use a weapon—or even learn how to use one—when his family is in danger... he acts like an idiot. Why did you marry a woman like Joe? If you know the risks, why get so worked up about it later? Neal suffers so much he looks like the lead in a Mexican soap opera. Damn it. I get the impression he’d vote for Kamala, while Joe is a MAGA supporter.

The team remains the same. I’m glad they kept Genesis Rodriguez—daughter of "El Puma" José Luis Rodríguez—as a regular cast member after her role in the second season. I like all the other team members; each has a distinct personality, but when the action starts—you know—the spirit of Jack Bauer takes over, and it all turns into shootouts and casualties. I love that.

This season tackles themes like foreign intelligence agencies recruiting collaborators at U.S. universities to radicalize them, turn them into leftists, and destroy the system from within. That’s something that actually happens in real life. Universities in this country are full of leftists, progressives, and people with "woke" ideologies. It was fascinating to see that aspect, as well as the political intrigue and espionage. I enjoy those kinds of stories, and this season struck a great balance.

They handled the tension really well in the episodes focused on a single objective. Those episodes reminded me of the series 24; I’m not sure why—maybe the pacing, or the fact that they had to act fast or risk losing someone forever. Plus, discovering who was really behind it all and what their motives were—combined with the fact that the war in Ukraine played a key role this season—was fascinating.

They really delivered an excellent season. Ten out of ten. I highly recommend it. You should watch the series from the first season if you like action, special ops, espionage missions, and taking out the enemy. It's a great series.

Esto le otorga un ritmo mucho más frenético que en las temporadas anteriores: no se pierde tiempo; es una carrera contrarreloj. También hay mucho drama, pero esta vez las hijas de Joe no son tan insensatas ni molestas como en la primera temporada. Dicho esto, su marido sigue siendo un tonto. Joe es la mujer, pero ella es la alfa; él es uno de esos personajes masculinos débiles, adiestrado como un cachorro. Esa tontería de negarse a usar un arma —o incluso a aprender a usarla— cuando su familia está en peligro... se comporta como un idiota. ¿Por qué te casaste con una mujer como Joe? Si conoces los riesgos, ¿por qué angustiarte después? Neal sufre tanto que parece el protagonista de una telenovela mexicana. Maldita sea. Me da la impresión de que él votaría por Kamala, mientras que Joe es partidaria de MAGA.

El equipo sigue siendo el mismo. Me alegra que hayan mantenido a Genesis Rodriguez —hija de "El Puma" José Luis Rodríguez— como parte del elenco fijo tras su papel en la segunda temporada. Me gustan todos los demás miembros del equipo; cada uno tiene una personalidad distinta, pero cuando empieza la acción —ya sabes— el espíritu de Jack Bauer se apodera de ellos y todo se convierte en tiroteos y bajas. Eso me encanta.

Esta temporada aborda temas como el reclutamiento de colaboradores por parte de agencias de inteligencia extranjeras en universidades de EE. UU. para radicalizarlos, convertirlos en izquierdistas y destruir el sistema desde dentro. Eso es algo que realmente sucede en la vida real. Las universidades de este país están llenas de izquierdistas, progresistas y personas con ideologías "woke". Fue fascinante ver ese aspecto, así como la intriga política y el espionaje. Disfruto de ese tipo de historias, y esta temporada logró un gran equilibrio.

Manejaron muy bien la tensión en los episodios centrados en un único objetivo. Esos episodios me recordaron a la serie 24; no estoy seguro de por qué —quizás por el ritmo o por el hecho de que tenían que actuar rápido o arriesgarse a perder a alguien para siempre. Además, descubrir quién estaba realmente detrás de todo y cuáles eran sus motivos —sumado al hecho de que la guerra en Ucrania jugó un papel clave esta temporada— resultó fascinante.

Realmente ofrecieron una temporada excelente. Un diez sobre diez. La recomiendo encarecidamente. Deberías ver la serie desde la primera temporada si te gusta la acción, las operaciones especiales, las misiones de espionaje y eliminar al enemigo. Es una gran serie.
