Hello, movie and TV lovers! I hope you're all doing great. I recently saw that Leo Woodall, who played Dexter in the series One Day, starred in a new movie, and I was super excited because I loved his performance in the show. The movie is called Tuner (or El Afinador in Spanish), directed by Daniel Roher. It’s a bit of a different story than usual, but it connects all the important plot points to create a highly entertaining mix of drama, a touch of comedy, and romance. So, I invite you to read my thoughts on Tuner.
Niki is a young piano tuner with an extraordinary ability to hear when sounds are just right. After being unable to pursue his true passion of playing the piano, he decides to make a living this way, taking advantage of his unique condition to tell when an instrument is in perfect condition. He has a close relationship with a man he considers his grandfather, who is a fundamental part of his life.
However, everything turns against him when his grandfather falls ill, leaving Niki with massive hospital bills to pay. Looking for a way to make money, he inevitably runs into a group of men who propose that he use his hearing to crack safes for wealthy individuals. In exchange, he receives payment to help solve his growing financial problems. In the middle of all this chaos, he meets Ruthie, a young woman passionate about the piano.
When Ruthie (Havana Rose Liu) enters the picture, Niki begins to develop feelings for her. Yet, he feels he can't fully open up because of the illegal work he is involved in. Despite this, moments arise where the bond of friendship and love naturally deepens. They share great moments growing their mutual affection, as well as their shared passion for music and the piano. This was one of the highlights of the film for me—their chemistry is fantastic, and I loved how they portrayed a couple on screen.
Niki's hyper-sensitive hearing becomes a double-edged sword. What started as a quick way to earn money turns into a nightmare and an endless loop of robberies and threats from this group of men. Breaking free becomes nearly impossible for Niki, as he constantly finds himself pulled back into another threat or dirty job.
I thought Leo Woodall gave an incredible performance. He hasn't received widespread recognition in cinema yet, but he clearly has immense potential. Throughout the film, you can truly feel his emotional and physical suffering during moments when loud external noises paralyze him and cause him intense pain. Ruthie's actress was also wonderful—she portrays a driven woman who, despite being in love, knows she must pursue her dreams, bringing great attitude and perseverance to the role.
It's an incredible story that deserves more recognition. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but sometimes movies surprise you. I loved the seamless blend of drama, romance, and a touch of action; they really knew how to weave those genres together. It's well worth a watch, and I think it leaves a great message at the end. Even if the characters don't necessarily get a traditional happy ending, the final scene was excellent and couldn't have been better. I highly recommend checking this movie out!

¡Hola amigos amantes del cine y la televisión! Espero que se encuentren muy bien. Hace poco vi que Leo Woodall quien interpretó a Dexter de la serie One Day, salió en una nueva película y me emocionó mucho porque me encantó su actuación en la serie. La película se llama Tuner o El Afinador en español, dirigida por Daniel Roher es una historia un tanto diferente de lo habitual pero que conecta todos los puntos importantes en la historia que hacen que sea una película sumamente entretenida entre el drama y un poco de comedia con romance. Asi que los invito a leer mi opinión sobre Tuner.
Niki es un joven afinador de pianos, quien tiene una gran capacidad para escuchar cuando los sonidos son correctos y ha decidido después de no poder continuar con su pasión que es tocar el piano, buscar ganarse la vida de esta manera, sacando un poco de provecho a su condición que hace que pueda saber cuando un piano está en perfectas condiciones. Tiene una relación con quién considera su abuelo y una parte fundamental de su vida.
Pero todo se vuelve en su contra cuando su abuelo se enferma y debe pagar las cuentas del el hospital que son realmente altas. En busca de una nueva forma de ganarse la vida se topa inevitablemente con unos hombres que le proponen abrir cajas fuertes de personas adineradas, para luego recibir el dinero por su trabajo y poder resolver los problemas que cada vez se hacen más grandes, pero en medio de todo esto conoce a Ruthie una joven apasionada por el piano.
Cuando Ruthie (Havana Rose Liu) aparece, Niki empieza a desarrollar sentimientos hacia ella. Pero siente que no puede acercarse del todo a ella porque es alguien que está haciendo cosas malas. Sin embargo, se dan algunos momentos en los que es inevitable que crezca el sentimiento de amistad y amor. Y pasan buenos instantes donde crece el afecto tanto mutuo, como por la música y el piano. Es algo que me atrapó de la película, la química es bastante buena y sentí que me encantó cómo simularon ser pareja en esta película.
El tema de la audición se convierte en un arma de doble filo porque de alguna manera, lo que empieza como algo para conseguir un poco de dinero, se vuelve una pesadilla y un bucle constante entre robos y amenazas por parte de este grupo de hombres. Para Niki es complicado poder dejar de lado lo que comenzó con ellos, ya que por cualquier motivo siempre termina cayendo de nuevo en una amenaza o trabajo sucio.
Me pareció muy buena la interpretación de Leo Woodall quien no ha tenido mucho reconocimiento en el mundo del cine, pero siento que tiene un gran potencial. En la película pude ver su sufrimiento tanto emocional cómo físico al pasar por situaciones donde el volumen del ruido externo lo paralizaba por completo y le causaba además un gran dolor. La actuación de Ruthie también fue muy buena, siendo una mujer que aunque está enamorada sabe que debe seguir adelante con sus sueños y su personaje demuestra una gran actitud y perseverancia.
Es una historia increíble, creo que merece más reconocimiento. No pensé que me podría gustar tanto, pero así sucede en algunos casos. Me encanto y me gusto ver esa mezcla entre el drama, el romance y un poco de acción. Realmente supieron como enlazar cada uno de estos géneros dentro de la historia. Vale la pena verla, y creo que al final deja un buen mensaje, a pesar de que los personajes tal vez no queden con un final feliz, pero el final estuvo excelente y no pudo haber sido mejor. Los invito a ver esta película.
