I had noticed this series for a while but hadn't started it yet, but now I'm in love with it, it's a TV series of rare sweetness and tenderness which tackles important themes with a disarming lightness and simplicity. The series is on Netflix and is based on a graphic novel, which I am obviously curious to read now! The main theme is obviously love between two male teenagers. Charlie and Nick, for the first, declared homosexual, seeing Nick at the school desk is immediately love at first sight, the nice thing is that in many scenes graphic effects are used to emphasize some moments, writings, colored leaves and other things that refer to the world cartoonish. In short, it all starts with this teenage crush, but it's a shame that Nick reflects all the clichés of the straight, expert rugby player, masculine, popular among friends and girls and yet he forms a friendship with Charlie that becomes ever closer. Charlie confides his secret crush to a group of faithful friends, Tao an alternative boy of Asian origin, Elle a black transgender girl and the calm and slightly nerdy Isaac. His friends initially advise him to move away from straight Nick and try to investigate him, they don't want Charlie to feel even worse. They are also a very diverse group and Elle is the first black transgender girl to appear in a mainstream series.

Coming back to us at a certain point in the story, with great spontaneity and naturalness the friendship between Nick and Charlie transforms into love and we will see this transformation in all its sweetness and this blossoming of a love will be very delicate, never vulgar, often tender, hands touching, furtive glances, kisses secretly stolen from the world. And it is also precisely on this having to hide that the show focuses, on the courage it takes to expose yourself to be yourself and to freely love those you love without being judged. This first season is truly a beautiful discovery, as I already said it is a very sweet and tender story, nice to look at both for the photography and the graphics and with important messages against homo/trans phobia. A current series which in its lightness offers very serious points for thought.
