Esta vez me uní a la aventura del superhéroe asiático Shang Chi, Marvel sigue apostando por efectos especiales alucinantes y, en este caso, el uso afianzado de las artes marciales junto a la incursión de la mitología china logra una producción atractiva, pero predecible en ciertos rasgos. Es un largometraje que armoniza la acción, la fantasía y la comedia, un sello que ya es distinto de esta franquicia. Vale recordar que este personaje fue creado por Steve Englehart y Jim Starlin en el año 1973, con la diferencia de que la versión original es distinta a la presentada en la gran pantalla, por lo que puede considerarse como una producción cinematográfica independiente.
Parece que todo el cine asiático se guía por la misma fórmula: artes marciales, dragones y lazos familiares disfuncionales, combinación de lo místico y fantástico que convence al público la mayoría de las veces, no obstante, el reflector debería brillar más arriba. En esta cinta bien podríamos conseguir referencias a Tigre y dragón(2000), El último samurái(2003) o La Casa de las Dagas Voladoras (2004). En este sentido, no hay ningún esfuerzo por cambiar el estereotipo que nos han vendido durante muchos años, considero que la originalidad debe aparecer como primigenia en cualquier guion.
It seems that all Asian cinema is guided by the same formula: martial arts, dragons and dysfunctional family ties, a combination of the mystical and fantastic that convinces the public most of the time, however, the spotlight should shine higher. In this film we could well get references to Tiger and Dragon(2000), The Last Samurai(2003) or The House of Flying Daggers (2004). In this sense, there is no effort to change the stereotype that we have been sold for many years, I believe that originality must appear as primordial in any script.
Argumento
Veremos a Shang, un humilde valet parking de San Francisco. Progresivamente iremos descubriendo lo que hay detrás de su historia. En este film tenemos varios flashback, aquí interesa explicar las relaciones conflictivas de la estirpe del personaje central, pues en esto se basa la trama. Desde principio a fin se percibe la laboriosa tarea por exhibirnos el origen de Shang Chi, quién está envuelto en un gran drama familiar. Su padre es el jefe de la organización secreta conocida como “Los diez anillos”, un criminal muy peligroso de China. La madre es asesinada como consecuencia de las acciones de éste. Él y su hermana se separan y huyen de aquel escenario atroz. Posteriormente, se ven obligados a luchar en contra de su papá y restaurar la paz en la colonia de sus ancestros.
Argument
We will meet Shang, a humble parking valet from San Francisco. Progressively we will discover what lies behind his story. In this film we have several flashbacks, here we are interested in explaining the conflicting relationships of the central character's lineage, because this is what the plot is based on. From beginning to end, the laborious task of showing us the origin of Shang Chi, who is involved in a great family drama, is perceived. His father is the head of the secret organization known as "The Ten Rings", a very dangerous criminal from China. The mother is killed as a result of his actions. He and his sister are separated and flee from that atrocious scene. Later, they are forced to fight against their father and restore peace in the colony of their ancestors.
Reparto
En el reparto tenemos a Simu Liu como Shang-Chi, nuestro protagonista, un joven carismático y experto en artes marciales que intenta escapar de la influencia de su padre. Paulatinamente cae en cuenta que no puede renegar de su pasado y debe volver para encararlo. Liu destaca en su papel y lo ejecuta a la altura. Asimismo, Michelle Yeoh encarna a la tía Ying Nan, una guerrera protectora y valiente que daría la vida por restablecer el orden de su aldea y volver a su cotidianidad donde reinaba la paz como valor fundamental. Fala Chen (Li) vendría a representar a su madre, su participación es muy breve, pero significativa en el desarrollo de la historia. También contamos con Xialing (Meng’er Zhang), quien personifica a su hermana, heroína de acción que lucha por resguardar su hogar, su misión es combatir al lado de su linaje para enfrentar la paranoia de su progenitor. Las mujeres de esta familia hacen muy bien su trabajo en escena.
Distribution
In the cast we have Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, our protagonist, a charismatic young man and expert in martial arts who tries to escape the influence of his father. Gradually he realizes that he cannot deny his past and must return to face it. Liu stands out in his role and executes it to match. Likewise, Michelle Yeoh plays Aunt Ying Nan, a protective and brave warrior who would give her life to restore order to her village and return to her daily life where peace reigned as a fundamental value. Fala Chen (Li) would come to represent her mother, her participation is very brief, but significant in the development of the story. We also have Xialing (Meng'er Zhang), who personifies her sister, an action heroine who fights to protect her home, her mission is to fight alongside her lineage to face her father's paranoia. The women of this family do their work very well on stage.
Otros actores que hacen honor con su buena actuación son: Ben Kingsley en el rol de Trevor, quien junto a su extraña mascota nos regalan momentos de jocosidad otorgándole rasgos refrescantes a esta película. Tony Leung nos presenta a un Wenwu bien consolidado, temible y desequilibrado, es el patriarca y el villano. Su presencia en pantalla es imponente, una actuación notoria desde mi punto de vista y no esperaba menos de una de las mejores estrellas de Hong Kong en la industria del cine. Por último, Awkwafina (Katy) tiene el papel de la amiga chistosa y alocada que intenta capturar la atención a través de la risa fácil. Me gustó este personaje ya que resulta fuera de lo común dentro del marco lógico que se exhibe.
Opinión
Este film tiene la misión de presentarnos a un nuevo héroe, de allí que su desarrollo se asiente en las vivencias de Shang-Chi desde su infancia y todo lo que le ha acontecido, el objetivo es que logremos conocer más a fondo a este personaje y entendamos las razones que mueven sus acciones e influyen en su comportamiento. Destin Daniel Cretton, acompañado por sus colaboradores Andrew Lanham y David Elias Callaham, poseen libertad creativa para lograr una película de origen entretenida al mejor estilo de las estelarizadas por Bruce Lee o Jackie Chan.
Otro elemento que ha quedado muy bien consolidado es el reflejo auténtico de las tradiciones chinas, haciendo honor a su cultura. Podemos observar cómo se conjuga este panorama a través de varios hilos narrativos: el conflicto entre padre e hijo, el camino que debe transitar el héroe y el combate decisivo entre las fuerzas del bien y el lado oscuro. Es necesario mencionar que el legado de los antecesores y la búsqueda de la identidad propia son temas muy manoseados en el cine, quizás abordados desde otro enfoque le hubieran concedido un toque de singularidad y un aire renovado.
Opinion
This film has the mission of introducing us to a new hero, hence its development is based on the experiences of Shang-Chi since his childhood and everything that has happened to him, the objective is that we get to know this character more thoroughly and let us understand the reasons that move their actions and influence their behavior. Destin Daniel Cretton, joined by his collaborators Andrew Lanham and David Elias Callaham, have creative freedom to achieve an entertaining origin film in the best style of those starring Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan.
Another element that has been very well established is the authentic reflection of Chinese traditions, honoring their culture. We can see how this panorama is combined through various narrative threads: the conflict between father and son, the path that the hero must travel and the decisive battle between the forces of good and the dark side. It is necessary to mention that the legacy of the predecessors and the search for one's own identity are topics that have been handled extensively in the cinema, perhaps approached from another perspective they would have given it a touch of singularity and a renewed air.
Shang-Chi y la leyenda de los Diez Anillos tiene aspectos plausibles, pero no termina de cristalizar del todo. Naturalmente, tiene una gran carga emocional, cuyo propósito es lograr sensibilizar al público para ir en busca de su empatía y que así pueda identificarse con las características que definen a cada personaje y, por supuesto, experimente, en primera línea, sus contrariedades, de modo que mire desde la barrera cuáles serán los giros de los acontecimientos que se han propuesto. Esta fase 4 del UCM, como ya hemos percibido, viene cargada de sorpresas, habría que esperar si éstas cubren las expectativas de los espectadores, hasta ahora considero que deben seguir sumando esfuerzos para lograr productos de calidad.
From my perspective, some action sequences lose seriousness when they use the resource of slow motion and musical accompaniment, it could give the impression that we are in the middle of a parody. It cannot be denied that there are very well-executed choreographies where knowledge of martial arts is vital. Doing some research, I read that the actors who worked in this film improved their combat skills and others learned various skills that gave credibility to these scenes, therefore, they had months of preparation for their performance to be remarkable.
Shang-Chi and the legend of the Ten Rings has plausible aspects, but it does not fully crystallize. Naturally, it has a great emotional charge, whose purpose is to sensitize the public to go in search of their empathy and thus be able to identify with the characteristics that define each character and, of course, experience, in the first line, their setbacks, so that you watch from the sidelines what the turns of events that have been proposed will be. This phase 4 of the UCM, as we have already seen, is full of surprises, we would have to wait if they meet the expectations of the viewers, so far I believe that they should continue adding efforts to achieve quality products.
