When I first heard about The Substance with Demi Moore I knew I was going to get something completely different, after all she haven't had any hits in the last 10 years or so. It's not your typical Hollywood fare, it's a grotesque, in your face look at the aging, fame and the absolute crazy lengths people will go to stay relevant. A body horror spectacle, part social media comment, part nightmare and simply unforgettable.
The movie is about Elisabeth Sparkle played by Demi Moore, a 50 year old fitness show host on the verge of getting kicked from Hollywood so she had to do something to stay relevant, this gets her going to the extreme, it was all in for her. Her boss Harvey, played by Dennis Quaid, a sleazy TV executive decides she's too old to keep her spot and as a result, Elisabeth instead finds a bizarrely efficient solution to her age problem involving a mysterious drug called "The Substance" exactly in the most ungraceful possible way, this is not your run of the mill anti aging treatment, put a mask on and wake up younger type, it creates a younger version of herself called Sue, played by Margaret Qualley, basically a surrogate, reminds me of the Bruce Wills movie Surrogates (2009) to be exact.
The plot is wild, Elisabeth and Sue have to switch places every seven days and in effect one of them has to be put into storage while the other lives her life. There are strict rules to this not so traditional, becoming younger start, Sue has to inject Elisabeth's original body with daily doses and they must swap exactly every seven days, so its just obvious everything will go to hell at some point when you have to be so strict, and things go completely off the rails pretty quickly.
There's nothing wrong with Demi Moore's performance, in fact they both Demi and Margaret did an exceptional job playing their roles, in my opinion probably Demi Moore best performance ever but I'm not from when she made other movies so its just me. Elisabeth is broken to be hones, she is so vulnerable you can’t ignore it and I think there’s this absolutely nuts scene where she’s putting on makeup and getting ready for a date and she’s becoming more and more frustrated with her appearance, but this has nothing to do with looks, it seems that she hates herself to the core. The woman looks amazing but you could feel her self hatred on the screen, makes you think it is so precise, capture of an aging woman’s internal struggle in an industry where youth is the most prized commodity that it’s almost painful to watch.
Margaret Qualley is as intense as Moore as Sue,s not just that Elisabeth is younger, she’s a completely different character, its evident that she has way more ambition and a bloodthirsty lust for staying in the limelight. Qualley is magnetic as Sue, both at once seductive and terrifying, at the end the relationship between the two versions of the same person is terribly complex and disturbing, you might think they just cant coexist together.
Definitely a love it or hate it kind of movie, with some people who get too blown away by its audacity, others consider it too grotesque to handle, while I don't, yes might be a bit strange and creepy at times but not to the point makes you sick. It cant be denied that this movie takes a different point of view on how to become and stay young, its bold approach to body horror and social commentary, but I know this is not for everyone, if you’re a ewwee person then you might want to skip this one.
I consider this movie a masterpiece of controlled chaos, like a perfectly constructed time bomb. Director Coralie Fargeat has made something that is a all in one package, a critique of Hollywood's treatment of women, body horror nightmare and dark comedy. The visual style is incredible and every shot feels like it’s been carefully crafted, but also really uncomfortable and beautiful
This is not your classic horror movie body transformation, in fact its a separate body but it's Elisabeth's original body that breaks down completely in horrifying ways as a result of Sue's obsession with keeping her youth, the drama ends so over the top that it’s almost funny, but there’s a deep sadness lurking in the grotesque scenery.
The Substance is so unique because it uses body horror as a metaphor for the pressures of society, this is not just a movie about a magical youth drug but about how women are forever being made to re invent themselves, how they are forever being forced to stay young and to be perfect, all this to keep a place within society, probably one of the most extreme logical conclusion of the concept of self improvement, and so shows how these expectations can be so destructive.
I got to admit that the makeup and practical effects will make your skin crawl, from what I could find online about the movie the effects of the body horror is practical effects that look horribly real, there’s very little CGI here, very well crafted kind of old school techniques.
I’m giving “The Substance” a 8 out of 10, there are no perfect films, particularly in this one, some might find the third part a bit too extreme and the metaphors could be a little too plain. It’s a bold, original piece of cinema willing to take huge risks and mostly succeeds. Both Demi Moore and Coralie Fargeat are two powerhouse, the second to be a director to watch for in the future when ever you hear from her on a production.
This is more than a movie, it’s an experience at the same time for them an experiment on how horror movies can change a bit to be less gory but steel make you twist in your seat from the horrifying visuals. It’s the sort of film with scenes that even after you leave the theater keep hammering down the same horrifying images. If you’re looking for something completely different, something that’s going to shock you, make you laugh and maybe make you sick, The Substance is definitely worth your time.
Lioness Season 2 started off with a bang and I'm officially hooked, if season one was not enough, this season also open with awesome action scenes but with just enough drama to keep you wanting more. It was a wild ride and I wanted more in the first two episodes. From the beginning we are thrown into the deep end with a high stakes mission that will be the theme of the entire season, although through the third episode it kinda shift focus but I will probably talk about it once I get to that episode. The show wastes no time in building up the tension as it starts off with a night time raid that goes very wrong. Instead, we see a team of tactical operatives storming a residence, only to kidnap Congresswoman Hernandez and then kill her husband and her kid. This turn south operation is the thing that is the catalyst for everything that happens from then on, and it’s clear that the risk and importance are higher than ever for our Lioness team, different than season one this starts already with a victim giving the Lioness an immediate purpose.
When Joe hears about Hernandez being kidnapped, she is thrown back into action, and the show does a great job of showcasing how Joe’s work life constantly interrupts her family time, almost like hitting play and pause every five minutes. You can feel this palpable tension on her, the struggle she has as a mother and a CIA operative, at least on season two her family is more familiar with her line of work and things are not supper secret as before. She is struggling so hard to keep her professional and personal life separated and you really feel for Joe. But it's the scenes with her family that are climatic especially when she has to say goodbye to her husband and kids before heading off on a dangerous mission. You can tell from her face the weight of her responsibilities, which gives the action packed plot an extra layer of emotional depth, Zoe Zaldaña does such a great job at looking fierce and vulnerable making her acting great all along this TV series.
The rescue mission to get Congresswoman Hernandez is one of those action scenes I was referring too that keeps you on the edge with Joe and her team, including some new guys like Cody, have to go into Mexico and extract Hernandez from the clutches of a cartel, kinda give you Sicario (2015) vibes. It’s intense action sequences with a great sense of danger, unpredictability watching them going into the unknown, but the show doesn’t spare any punches in showing you the brutal reality of these operations, and it really makes you understand the risks these people take every day, this actually happens in real life, might not be every day but where do you think they come up with this stories?.
What I particularly liked about these episodes was how they got into the morality of the Lioness program, the double edge of what can be done and should not but still possible with the right authority in place. And we see Joe trying to deal with the moral implications of her work, as she is told to execute her job 'without pity' makes it fascinating to watch Joe navigate these murky waters on the lines between right and wrong even gray areas of law and jurisdiction. It feels like the lines are getting more or less blurred.
In the second episode, "I Love My Country," Joe and her team goes to Iraq where they are called to secure a new operative, the soon to be new Lioness. This is a whole new mission set of challenges and it really brings to light the global scale of the Lioness program, they need someone with ties to the Cartel, this this case with a cover up story and turns out this person is within the US Army itself. I also felt that the Iraq scenes were quite tense, but it was just a bit obvious at the opening when they face all of the sudden armed men right after Joe ask what happens if they get attacked, come on. Still this is not a war documentary so I guess they have to make it entertaining and why then we have this HUGE Apache intervension that comes rescue Joe and her team, blasting the enemy from the sky.
Through these episodes and basically the entire series we see Joe's personal life continue to fall apart from the pressure of her work and I always wonder if at some point her husband going to get tired of it although he does look like he is constantly simping on her to be honest. You can just tell the emotional toll a mission like that would take on Joe, and there’s this moment where he calls home right after a shooting and who wouldn't considering you could have almost died and left behind an entire family that is expecting you. She’s trying so hard to keep it together for her kids, it's these quiet, personal moments that really help lift up the show's emotional punch and make Joe such a relatable complicated, moody character.
After a risky but successful mission with the entire show form bending rules, been out of jurisdiction even when they are they good guy, its time, Joe’s ominous declaration that “Now we play offense,” we know there’s going to be a lot of forward motion in the season to come. There is no doubt that Joe and her team will go to extremes to get to the truth, if they need to make personal sacrifices in the process with casualties but so far none of the core team has died making me feel its kinda out of reality but still its a show but how far will the writers keep them alive, can't dance with the devil and just get out of it without a scratch. All in all, the show has been really good at giving us multiple, separate story lines and conflicts that I can’t wait to see develop themselves over the rest of the season.
The thing that really stood out to me was Cruz Manuelos, a fan favorite from the first season, who was absent, her absence is quite felt and helps to tie these episodes into her story line, although she has not been mention so far but I have notice how on the second season reviews people have ask where the fuck is she?!. I really want to see how Cruz is reintroduced to the story and what impact her experiences from last season will have on this one.
With the first two episodes of Lioness Season 2, the show is off to a strong start, to me so far its an 8/10 for sure, competing even with the recent success of The Penguin but on two separate atmospheres one been a more dark and underground gangster battle with this been a high profile top secret constant mission that never ends, there is always a new mission with a new target. I’m already excited for the rest of the season, Lioness Season 2 is a must watch if you’re a fan of intense, character driven espionage shows, to put an example if you are a fan of SIX (2017) or SEAL TEAM, then you are going to love Lioness, not exactly the same but similar vibes.

After the runaway success of the Dhamer series, Ryan Murphy decided to explore other famous American killers, creating the Monsters franchise. As he has done with his other hits, he created the Monsters franchise, as he did with American Horror Story and American Crime Story, tackling different stories in each season.
This time, he chose to bring us the story of the ill-fated Menendez brothers. It's a case I remember seeing in the newspapers when I was very young. Also sometimes the news on the telediarios would say something about the trial.
The trailer was quite promising. The two main protagonists were complete strangers to me. I had seen absolutely nothing of their previous work. That helped me to believe their portrayals of these murderous brothers. I think it is a resounding success on the part of the filmmakers to make the story believable. Unlike Dahmer, where Evan Peters was already a fairly well-known actor in the world of TV beings.
Chloe Sevigny and Javier Bardem are better known. I've followed the careers of both of them. Bardem is one of my favourite Spanish actors since I saw them in The Ages of Lulu. Although he is a leftist, he is a fascinating actor and here he proves it again playing the father of the Menéndez brothers. the father of the Menéndez brothers.
As in all Murphy's productions, his unmistakable fingerprints are present. Both the good and the bad. Murphy is very good at what he does, but he is also recurrent in making the same mistakes.
The technical level is top-notch. The recreation of the period, the setting, the sets, the costumes, the music and the photography. In general, it manages to transport us to that period. I was transported back in time, remembering things that were fashionable in the years in which the story takes place.
There are also episodes where I applaud the chosen narrative form. For example, there is an episode that takes place all in one place, with a single fixed camera in a super slow zoom. These kinds of daring narrative techniques are not new, but I like it when current productions decide to experiment.
I liked the different points of view of the events leading up to the crime. Sowing doubts in the viewer, about the morality of the brothers' father. What's the truth in all that? We will probably never know the truth. The Menéndez brothers tell so many lies that they may even tell the truth that it will be hard to believe.
The trial part and the arguments of the defence, is an important theme for the viewer to analyse how the judicial system of that nation works and the legal twists and turns that can be used. By the way, I loved actress Ari Graynor as the defence lawyer. Her change of look is clearly an attempt to emulate Sarah Paulson in another Murphy series (the one about the O.J. case).
The downside is that the story drags on too long. As with Dahmer. There are too many episodes. Some things could have been shortened. This is a recurring thing with Murphy. I stopped watching American Horror Story for the same reason. But that doesn't take away from the fact that it's a very remarkable series, well produced, well acted and tackling a subject that fascinates me.
It's on Netflix. Let me know what you thought of it in the comments.

The Penguin has turn into such a great TV Series and mostly thanks to Colin Farrell, not saying that the rest of the cast has not done great but the work he has put into his character is amazing in every single aspect. On Episode 7 "Top Hat", we rocket back in time to Oz Cobb’s turbulent past and disturbing present. In this penultimate episode, we wade into the origin of our favorite flightless bird, and discover the twisted origins of his villainous ways, this episode; as many other, did not disappoint and I gotta say it, I was pretty stoked about this episode, the fact that he was the reason his brothers were gone, this series gives me the same amount of excitement and fulfill as The Mandalorian (2019) did on every episode, because of how good the story is, in this case the acting has a lot to do with it.
First, we have one of those flashback things to Oz's childhood and it's not something to go back on and feel ok about it. This awkward kid with a leg brace is young Oz, always trying to win his mom’s attention, while his brothers, Jack and Benny have all the spotlight so he constantly feels left behind. It does a really good job of showing the family dynamic of this dysfunctional family, like Oz’s mom, Francis, cooking the books for local gangster Rex Calabrese to try to make a living for her and her kids.
The episode gets really messed up when we find out what happened to Oz’s brothers, and it’s pretty dark chapter in his life at such young age but mostly giving zero fucks. Oz locks his brothers in a drain with rainwater filling up, during a game of flashlight tag in some abandoned tunnels, what is no days his main HQ for his drug business, he even kept a coin from those days probably as a reminder of what happen that day. He just lets them sit there and goes back to watch movies with his mom, a chilling moment for him, it is a moment that shows how twisted Oz was even as a kid, willing to let his brothers drown so that he can have his mom all to himself.
The flashbacks interact very well with the present day action in this episode. Oz is dealing with Sofia kidnapping his mom, Salvatore Maroni is out for blood after Oz torched his wife and kid. It's a powder keg of tension and you know it's building with every scene, but for Oz seems to be another day at the office since he is constantly in this situation with his life always at the edge of getting caught, it has been like this since the series started.
What I really love about this episode was how it showed the consistency of these characters we’ve come to know over the series, how everything makes sense even Sofia making an alliance with Salvatore, after all she does need a hammer, at first I thought it was Johny Vitti but she knew he would betray her. When Sofia and Francis finally meet in person it’s like watching two lionesses circle each other, although one got her head mess up. She's old, she's suffering from dementia, but she's got some serious bite. But it’s both admirable and a little scary, the way she stands up to Sofia and defends Oz right there, which explains where Oz gets his tenacity from. Recently I ask on Inleo "When ScarecrowMovie?!", well isn't Dr. Julian Rush giving you those Scarecrow vibes?, although he is not as good as Cillian Murphy.
Then, we can discuss that showdown between Oz and Salvatore, the thing has been building up for a while now and when it finally happens, it’s not what you’d think, at least I was expecting more but did make me laugh, it was real WTF moment. Salvatore has a heart attack right in the middle of his fight with Oz, it is a very comical moment and also demonstrates that life in Gotham is never predictable. Oz being a man of his word, and being the opportunist he is, is sure to get in one last word and a few bullets before Salvatore kicks the bucket.
The episode also provides us some information about Sofia's state of mind. Visiting her cousin Gia in a children's home that resembles Arkham only makes her realize that she's turning into just like her father. That’s a powerful moment and makes you wonder if Sofia has a change of heart before the finale, it really sux how she kept Gia away, after all why taking the time to safe her but not keep her close? its not about custody since she could have bought it, it does seem like she is just as her father and gets disconnected from people over power.
The ending turn into the perfect door to chaos going into the last episode next weekend, the whole place is blown to dust by a car full of explosives that Sofia rigs and sends towards Oz’s hideout. Oz survives by taking hiding in the same storm drain he abandoned his brothers to die in all those years ago. It’s a full circle kind of moment that really chain to the fact your past is still determining your present with Oz. He then wakes up in the rubble of his destroyed empire being confronted by one of Sofia's men. This is a cliff hanger that leaves us in perfect shape for what is sure to be an explosive finale.
When I look back on “Top Hat” I think it did a fantastic job of filling in the blanks of Oz’s backstory and still moving the present day plot along, how do you do that without the episode feeling too short or too rush, its just amazing. And there are such parallels between the boy Oz and the man he’s become that it's really something to think about, how much of the adult you is shaped by the childhood you.
Every performance in this episode was top notch, as I open the post with Colin Farrell still seems to be able to disappear into the role of Oz, you forget that's the same guy who played the Penguin in "The Batman (2022)" or other great roles like "John Sugar" on the recent TV series, Sugar (2024). There's also the kid playing child Oz who nails that mix of vulnerability and cruelty that makes up the character.
I'm really excited to see how all these threads come together as we head into the finale. Can Oz save his mother and get his empire back? Will Sofia change her mind at the last minute, or will she flip full villain? What of all of this, and how will it fit in with the larger Batman universe we've seen a hint of throughout the series?
Overall I’d say “Top Hat” is an 8 out of 10 with the entire season keeping high ratings across multiple online websites like IMDB with an 8.8/10 average. Some might say that it's not perfect, we didn't need another flashback episode this late in the game, but I think it helps us understand Oz a bit more. It's a great way to set up what will hopefully be a thrilling finale. If you’ve enjoyed The Penguin so far, you’re definitely going to want more after this episode.
¡Hola amigos!
Hello friends! Today I bring you the review of a post apocalyptic horror movie set in Spain that was recently released on Prime video platform, its name is Apocalipsis Z: The beginning of the end.
The film follows Manel, a man who is estranged from his family after the death of his wife in a car accident a year ago. Until the world is invaded by a new pandemic of a virus that drives people mad and spreads through bites. After a confinement and subsequent evacuation, Manel is left alone with his cat Lucullus at the request of his sister, who warns him not to get carried away by the military. But very soon he will have to face the threats of the outside world to get supplies and find a way to reach his sister.
Another zombie movie, but more current. I was delighted to see this Spanish version, which is inspired by a trilogy of books, so maybe 2 more movies will be made to close this story. The truth is that I didn't have much faith in it at first, but it ended up convincing me. I don't know why I like zombie apocalyptic movies so much, but I enjoy them a lot.
The plot is more of the same, it shows us a bit of the chaos and how this virus was spreading through the different parts of Spain, but we never find out how it originated in the first place or where it happens. I always find it funny how some characters take it so naturally that people start eating each other as if it were an everyday thing.
The first part was about survival, getting supplies and adapting to the new reality. The second part did get more exciting, with action scenes because Manel had to get out of his comfort zone with the cat and there are people of dubious reputation who take advantage of tragic situations to continue doing their evil deeds, and we have a better look at the behavior of these zombies in packs, since in the first part they do not appear so much, except on rare occasions.
Again I found myself suffering for a cat, don't make apocalyptic movies with animals in the middle because I will suffer until I know they are safe, but I'm a masochist so I like that they include scenes like that because they are also members of our family and deserve to be protected and carried with us, even at the end of humanity (?).
In addition to the zombies, we also have human stories, like Manel's whose life got stuck when his wife died and he needs to overcome that, or the bad guys I mentioned above who will appear to carry out their evil deeds and put their own ideas of survival to work.
The zombies in the movie are a bit like the ones in World War Z and We're Not Dead, the ones that run at you like there's no tomorrow and on top of that they have a lot of stamina. You would think that a virus of this style would make them slow like the zombies of yesteryear, but they don't make them like that anymore, now they turn them into super speed machines.
The ending is very open, so I guess they are thinking about a second part and the truth is that I will be waiting for it because it left me very curious to know how it continues. The good thing is that there are also books.

I definitely don't know why they bother making new versions of old movies, very few deliver, most are a disappointment, I'm not saying all, but the ones I've seen lately don't meet my expectations.
This weekend I decided to watch this movie, especially because of the characters. I don't remember having seen the first version, but I'm almost 100% sure that it was better than this one.
Let's remember a little bit what this story is about.
Beetlejuice came out in 1988, where we saw a family tormented by a ghost, a young woman haunted by this character, if she mentions his name three times he appears; after three generations we see this new version with the same family, but in this part the daughter of that young woman finds herself trapped in the world of the dead, hence a new story to show, and to unearth this being by saying his name: Beetlejuice...Beetlejuice...Beetlejuice
Created and directed by Tim Burton, we know that most of his films have that touch of mystery, suspense and terror, and for fans of this type of films, they always expect something new and exciting to see from this director.
For this new version of Beetlejuice, well, it's not the perfect story, where we'll see all this, it's mostly comical, if you can call it that, I think that's part of why I decided to watch it, it's not a typical horror story, but the characters attract with their things.
The story is entertaining, it's acceptable to spend some time, but it has no humor, or suspense, much less terror, I really don't know how to rate it.
Here we can say that the film had good characters, starting with Winona Rider and Catherine O'hara, followed by Jenna Ortega, these three women fulfilled their role, here we noticed the difference of the new generation, one after the other.
Of course we cannot forget the main character, played by Michael Keaton, although I felt that he lacked more presence in this story, being the character that characterizes the film.
The film lasts an hour and a half, thank goodness, because stretching it out would have been unnecessary, everything was concise.
The ending did seem a bit boring to me, there was a part that was unnecessary, but well, that's my humble opinion, I'll leave it to you, if you dare to watch it.
I definitely do not recommend it 100%, it's not a story worth watching again.

I continue to devour the series Game of thrones and the complexity increases chapter by chapter with the evolution of each character. There are some characters that at first you thought were really bad and then you end up liking them when you get to know their past and understand why they are the way they are and do what they do.
They are as human as anyone else. I think that's a big part of the success of the series. We can identify at certain times with one or the other, because it shows the reality of emotions and behaviour. On a smaller or larger scale we are driven by the same appetites, we give or suffer the same betrayals, we base our lives on one or the other values.
Before I go on with the review, I must make the relevant....
Spoiler warning
I can't go on with the reviews without giving away what's going on in the series, so you've been warned. I leave it up to you whether to continue reading or not.
Robb Stark has won battles but lost the war. A part of his allies abandon him for having broken his word to marry the daughter of one of them to do it for love. To bring them back to his side, he has no choice but to arrange another wedding of convenience, but the affront is not forgiven.
He also learns of the fall of Winterfell and the disappearance of his younger brothers. They head for the Wall to join Jon Snow there, and along the way they are joined by some strange siblings. Bran Stark, the boy whose legs are immobilised, discovers that he has special powers that allow him to enter the minds of certain animals and people.
In King's Landing there is also movement after repelling Stannis Baratheon's attack. With the return of Tywin Lannister, the reasons for bad family relations come to the fore. While the current King Joffrey is betrothed to Margaery Tyrell and preparations are underway for their wedding, the patriarch forces his youngest son Tyrion to marry Sansa Stark and his daughter Cersei to marry the brother of the king's betrothed.
Lady Olenna, Margaery Tyrell's grandmother, is a great character. She wields her power with a kind face and is the perfect counterpoint to the Lannister patriarch. The scene in which she makes clear the labyrinth of inbreeding that is being forged between the two families is delirious, I loved it.
The priestess Melissandre finds Gendry Baratheon, the bastard son of King Robbert who accompanied Arya Stark on her escape from King's Landing to Winterfell. He takes him to the domain of his uncle Stannis with the idea of sacrificing him to his evil ends.
Arya, meanwhile, ends up in the hands of Gregor Clegane, aka The Hound, a deserter from Joffrey Baratheon's Kingsguard, who takes her to meet his brother Robb Stark.
The three were in the hands of the so-called Brotherhood Without Banners, a group of soldiers who form a kind of resistance band.
Theon Greyjoy is taken prisoner and tortured in a thousand ways. Despite the cruelty he wasted at Winterfell, there are scenes in which you suffer for him. The one who tortures him is Ramsay, a bastard son of Lord Bolton, the lord who accompanies Robb Stark.
At this point I'm starting to get a bit lost among so many bastard sons, even more so when they belong to secondary characters (at least for the moment). I'm glad I have a good memory for the faces because if it were for the names and surnames it would be impossible for me to keep track of them.
In the east, Daenerys Targaryen gains increasing support for her cause. At the beginning of the season she buys a large army, the Unsullied, and frees them. They all join her.
They continue to advance and arrive at the gates of Yunkai, a city full of slaves. There the mercenary soldiers Second Sons intend to assassinate her.
As for Jon Snow, he is separated from the rest of his fellow Night's Watch and is brought before the chieftain of the wildlings. He joins their cause and they climb the Wall. As they enter the Northlands, Jon manages to escape them but is badly wounded by arrows shot at him by the wildling with whom he has been having an affair.
At the split his friend Sam returns with the rest of the Night's Watch. He rescues Eli and her son, they are saved from a White Walker attack and cross the Wall through a passage. They arrive at Castle Black shortly before their friend Jon Snow appears at their gates.
A plot highlight is the one between Jamie Lannister (brother and lover of Cersei and uncle of the current king) and Brienne Tarth. She is on a mission to bring the captive to her family in King's Landing. He vows in return to return Sansa and Arya Stark to their mother.
The task is not an easy one. All sorts of vicissitudes befall them, testing their loyalty to each other. Whereas at the beginning of the season they had to put up with each other reluctantly, they end up risking their lives to save each other's lives. They also provide some humorous scenes that lighten the drama of their situation.
In this third season I have the impression that the scenery is brighter in general and that the outdoor scenes have increased. I appreciated this after the sometimes suffocating atmosphere of the previous season.
I'm afraid that characters I'm fond of will continue to fall by the wayside, as they have so far. I don't know if it's my impression, but the deaths are now less explicit than at the beginning of the series. I suspect that I'm getting used to the blood.

Even the most focused and level-headed person can lose their sanity if subjected to countless traumatic events in a short period of time. Becoming insane is very easy, you just need to be in the wrong place and witness atrocious events. This is what happened to the protagonist of this story. Based on true events, trapped in an insane asylum, Nellie Bly tells the story.
Driven by situations from my real life, I wanted to see this movie and was pleasantly pleased with its entire production, not knowing that it was the story of Nellie Bly, a woman unknown to me at the time, I was shocked by the twists and turns of the story and the reasons Nellie Bly had to undergo such a dangerous experience. Join me to find out what the film is about and who this special woman is.
Plot
In the frozen city of New York a woman appears wandering the streets without memory, she is young and seems to be middle class, in a state of shock she is admitted to a mental health institute, colloquially known as an asylum, there she is told that she will be there until she recovers her memory or until a family member appears to look for her, So she is admitted taking away her belongings, including clothes and personal items, curiously this woman was carrying a kind of agenda, but everything was taken from her, the admission is so hard that gives the viewer a taste of what will be the whole story. With an uncomfortable welcome, they explain the rules and routine of the place.
Once inside she realizes that many of the women are not mentally ill, they just have depression or are simply immigrants who do not know the language, from the beginning Nellie is very intelligent and capable, she also expresses her discomfort at the injustices done to her companions, but also stays away to avoid the atrocious punishments they were given, all she wants is to recover her memory or be rescued by someone. While that is happening, she receives consultations with a doctor who at first seems to be her only friend.
This doctor gives her tools so that she can recover her memory, but no matter how hard she tries she cannot. As the days went by she observed events out of the ordinary, both the nurses, who were more security guards than anything else, and the director, were evil women who enjoyed making the helpless suffer. Violent scenes, invasion of a woman's physical and intimate space began to unfold and I felt more and more anguished, I felt suffocated as I watched all that suffering.
Nellie is getting sicker every day, malnourished, disheveled and begins to look like the other inmates, even copying patterns of behavior and uncontrolled reactions. Her doctor begins to seduce her and hides information to prevent Nellie from being able to leave, but makes her believe he is helping her. As I watch the movie I think everyone is crazy, no one is saved, even Nellie herself. At this part I don't know what is true or lie anymore, a good plot twist.
They show really hard things, I have tried to avoid any kind of spoiler and to advance would be to give interesting details of everything, if you want to know if she came out well or not from the asylum and what she discovered I invite you to see this movie that besides being fascinating for the interpretative quality of the actors tells a true story that happened in the early nineteenth century.

Argumento
>
Opinion
Nellie Bly was a journalist famous for creating several books including 10 days in the madhouse based on her personal experience that made her win great awards, she was also the first woman to circumnavigate the world in 62 days inspired by the novel 80 days around the world by Jules Verne (novel that now if I'm interested in reading), who also helped her by lending part of the logistics to achieve success.
After I finished watching this movie, I was so amazed by human curiosity and what we are capable of doing to follow our passion, I did a little research on the life of this woman and I was equally amazed.
The production was set in spaces in keeping with the story, showing cold and snowy forests, as well as a building that gave the impression of being a cold and dark space. The costumes gave emphasis to the characters and the makeup also stood out.
It is very sad to lose our sanity and it is so fragile that any traumatic event if not well managed can take it away, but sadder is that the mentally ill are treated in these health centers by people who have no humanity, it is easier to leave a prison reformed than cured from an asylum. Take care of your emotions and thoughts and do not turn your back on those beings who need you.
I recommend you to watch this movie, I didn't want to tell you too much so you can live the experience to the fullest.

>

Logan Goerge and Celine Held make a good team. They made their feature film debut about four years ago with the remarkable Topside, in which Celine Held was the lead actress. Before and after their first film they have worked making short films and directing TV series. Their friendship and working together with Shyamalayan has helped them and the great filmmaker has acted as producer of Caddo Lake, something that the poster and trailer highlight, to boost its promotion and attract more audiences.
This is why the film has been promoted as a supernatural or horror film. In the Spanish-speaking market it has been given the title Los Horrores de Caddo Lake. When I decided to see it, I thought it would be a story about a killer who kills young people in a lake, but it has nothing to do with that. It's a story that has an element of science fiction and at the same time it's a family drama. The plot is nothing new. The story may be reminiscent of others we have seen, but the filmmaking is outstanding and, in my case, it managed to move me.
When the film ended, I was left wanting to see more. The story would work very well as a TV series. It has many elements from which a solid mythology of its own can be created.
I won't give away any of the mystery, as it is best enjoyed if the viewer can discover it for themselves. It's easy to find out and the filmmakers don't keep it hidden for long. I think if you pay attention, after about twenty minutes of filming, you'll see where it's going.
Set in deep America, on a gigantic lake located in real life between two states. Where many have small boats to get around. The cinematography of the film is beautiful and mysterious at the same time. It perfectly conveys that sense of unease. There seems to be something going on in one part of the lake, something supernatural, what is hidden there? The tension that builds after the disappearance of a girl named Anna intensifies as we go along. Especially when the central mystery becomes clearer. It may not come as much of a surprise to some, but I love stories that add that ingredient I haven't told you about.
Family drama is an important part of the narrative. Elli is a somewhat troubled young woman. She wants to know the truth about her father. Apparently, he abandoned her and her mother. She was a child when it happened. Her mother is currently married to Daniel, the father of Anna, the girl who mysteriously disappears. Elli does not feel part of that family. She is rebellious, brave and very determined when it comes to making decisions. On the other side is Paris, a man who carries a sense of guilt after his mother died in an accident when she fell from the dam and he was unable to save her. Everything will come together in a surprising way.
The work of Dylan O'Brien and Eliza Scanlen as Elli and Paris is outstanding. Actor Eric Lange has a supporting role in the story and so does actress Lauren Ambrose, who I will never tire of remembering from the extraordinary series Six Feet Under.
I highly recommend this story. It is available from Max. Leave me a comment.

Hello everyone, today I will post a new movie review about Dont move - a 2024 movie
Dont move is a psychological thriller and throughout the movie, we see how a killer injects a grieving woman with a paralytic agent. She must run, fight and hide before her body shuts down.
Stars: Kelsey Asbille - Finn Wittrock - Moray Treadwell
The movie starts in a very interesting way.
A woman is standing in front of a steep cliff, we see that she has grief for her lost son and apparently she is looking to fall down the void herself.
A handsome man talks to her and we see a few red flags until we understand what the true intentions of this man are.
I was very anxious to see this movie, so I was happy to see that it was there in NETFLIX.
It seemed to be a low budget movie, right from the starting video, but this is not something to make me think something bad about a movie
The first half an hour, the movie seemed to be interesting, it had a good plot and it kept the agony going.
After a while, some unusual things started to become noticeable and the movie to me, seemed to be a real fake one.
I would like to be honest with you, I could not watch it after the first 45 seconds. It seemed so exaggerated and with so many void points, that I really skipped it.
Having said this, perhaps for some it may be interesting and thrilling, so if you like thrillers, you could definitely give it some time and .. let me know your thoughts.
In the meantime, check out the trailer!
The movie rating was 5.9 last week, and now it is 5.8 - so it may go a bit lower.
I would put it between 5.1 and 5.5
There are a few new movies that I am thinking of watching, so if you have already written a review here, please post the link below!
This is not going to be so easy to describe without been a bit harsh at it, so Lee Daniels decided to take a go at the horror genre and it turned out he really missed the mark. I had some optimism going into this movie, not to be the Horror Queen of 2024 since its hard to overcome The First Omen (2024) that actually set the bar very high, isn’t that right?, Lee Daniel has a lot of skill in front of the camera, but this occasion feels like he took on more than he could handle.
Let's start with the basics, Andra Day plays Ebony Jackson, who is working to change her life. She’s a single mom with three children; all of them are shifting to a new house in Pittsburgh. Sounds similar to the start of every haunted house or possession movie or what about both like The Conjuring (2013), but this time things start to get a bit more interesting because Ebony has her own inner struggles and I'm not talking about issues of the supernatural.
Ebony comes from a substance abuse history and has a complicated connection with her mother, Alberta, played by Glenn Close. Close is extraordinary in this film, she's similar to a strange, white trash grandma who has a passion for Black men, and it's a bit unsettling, its just a character though, nothing against Cloe.
During the movie we start dealing with flies down in the basement, strange smells, and Ebony's youngest child, Andre conversing with a made up friend he calls Trey, well its just obvious and starts to turn into classic cliche, probably making it hard for the movie to be a hit unless the cast really send it out of the park, but they didn't. This is classic horror movie material, but it’s not what we are primarily concentrating on, we find ourselves in the territory of dysfunctional families, as Ebony grapples with keeping it together while managing her mom, kids and a social worker who’s always close by. You can tell how this is the perfect recipe for demonic possession if its not already present in someone.
You’d assume, given all this preparation that we would experience some major scares, well that's where things begin to lose their footing. The film takes its time like there is not rush at arriving to the supernatural elements, and when it eventually does, it seems to be trying to squeeze every possession movie stereotype into the final 30 minutes, there is such a gap they try to fill before the ending. We are referring to levitation, climbing walls and everything in between. It feels like Daniels finally came to terms with the fact he was making a horror movie and countered with the fact that it was all go and no show, all context to the family story and suddenly boom full blown exorcist but felt too late, its a very very average horror movie.
In the middle of the story telling problem there is the cast, in my opinion didn't perform bad and its the only reason I kept watching. Andra Day did a good job at it as Ebony. She's rough around the edges, she's authentic, and she generate some sympathy for this seriously flawed character trying to help her kids. Glenn Close played the role of Alberta but to me was kinda flat, but still with some unique energy in the role works well just to make things work enough so you keep watching, even when the dialogue becomes a little awkward.
For me the issue is that all this talent is wasted on a script that can't figure out what kind of film it wants to be. Is it a real drama that focuses on generational trauma? Is it a terrifying experience about demonic possession? It makes an effort to be everything and fails to completely achieve either.
This is not a debatable situation as most of the audience response to this movie in a very similar way with some people are appreciating the family dynamics, commending the performances and how they confront serious issues. A number of people are feeling let down by the horror aspects which, to be honest are quite unimpressive. The film seems to be wanting to be either 'Precious' concerning demons or 'The Exorcist' with its social commentary.
Personally, I recognize the intention behind what Daniels was doing here, he is trying to embrace serious themes and there are times when the movie definitely leaves a lasting impression. There is a remarkably strong relationship between Ebony and Alberta, and it is clear that their history takes over all of their interactions. As a fan of the horror genre, I felt nothing but serious disappointment from the script, the CGI is doubtful at best and the entire possession angle looks like an afterthought.
And please don’t have me discuss the ending, let’s just say it consists of a great deal of shouting at demons, a few convenient religious calls and a solution that seems overly rush. In some ways, it reminds one of Daniels desiring a neat conclusion, though this tactic somewhat diminishes the nature of the characters on this film
"The Deliverance" ends up being a movie with disappointing results and honestly not worth watching not even as a random watch. There are good performances that have to be recognize, the content is important and moments of real emotion are presented. Even so, in terms of a horror movie, it goes nose first and the way it attempts to summarize things appears unnatural. I will rate it a very low 6 out of 10, although don’t anticipate it to be frightening, I'm not in the game of giving a 1 to a bad movie, there are still subjects to consider when evaluating a movie and not going all emotional on the film. It's far more likely to cause you to think deeply about your relationship with your mother than to keep you awake at night.
I actually never thought this was going to happen, back in the days sequels were not that common and Beetlejuice the animated series died after a while with the movie becoming a reality, even brought to life animated characters were not a thing in 1988, took 36 years for the sequel for the movie to happen and we were lucky the original actors are still alive and kicking to make the sequel happen, if there is going to be a third movie now some of them might be running out of time so maybe Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2026)?!
The visual style of the movie one can agree is Burton’s return to his signature style, similar to the original movie some of the effects were very basic in terms of tech and some even handcrafted sets instead of using CGI all over the place, things that probably made the first movie memorable. Keeping this aesthetic approach was the right decision as the sequel has a real feel that ties in with its predecessor so well while remaining its own thing.
It’s been 36 years since the first film, and as you’d expect, time hasn’t been kind. Lydia Deetz has morphed from the goth teenager we knew into a paranormal TV show host with her own family drama, and personal demons. Making the original story does not seem to be that hard for the writers, although has very little connection to the original animated series since there was never a sequel or second season for it and Lydia did remain a goth teenager, I really enjoy the movie, from Keaton dark humor to memories from childhood watching Beetlejuice the animated series on TV, over all a great movie to watch, nothing crazy that you will find yourself watching every week but a good casual watch.
Returning to Winter River, Connecticut after Lydia Deetz's father had died, she is accompanied by her daughter Astrid and her stepmother Delia. Instead what we focus on is the family relationship, we get to where Lydia and Astrid haven't had the best relationship because Astrid's dad has passed away and Lydia's career has not panned out the way that Astrid expected. After Astrid gets pulled into the afterlife, Lydia strikes a familiar deal in order to get Beetlejuice to help her rescue her daughter, she will marry him, and he will help her rescue her daughter, after all that's what he always wanted, there is the connection with the OG movie.
As more characters are added to the story, it gets more complex: Beetlejuice's vengeful ex wife Delores LaVerge, a former member of a soul sucking death cult with a score to settle. Wolf Jackson, an afterlife detective played by Willem Dafoe, adds to the supernatural chaos you are to end up caught in, with his own excessive dose of quirky energy. These elements are mix up together with the latter described in Lydia's troubled relationship with TV producer boyfriend-ish Rory who since the beginning was only using her to make money out of controversy and the show, and Astrid's budding relationship with a local boy named Jeremy.
Michael Keaton returns to Beetlejuice as if he never left, resuming the role with a lot of energy and twisty humor that defined the character. His performance is all at once delightfully unhinged and genuinely threatening another proof that, at 73, the man can still completely command the screen with his signatory chaotic presence. Winona Ryder brings age and maturity to the adult Lydia, she’s a tormented ghost of loss, failed mother of a confused young woman and coming to terms with her own supernatural abilities. It feels like the natural evolution of her character and it puts some emotional weight on that story.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice had positive audience response, I would not call it the movie of the year but at least people giving it over a 7/10 for a sequel based on a movie from 36 years go, just imagine how many people who saw this movie had no clue what TF Beetlejuice was about?!, especially to its practical effects and dedication to the original's look something also left in the past, old tech. Those like me, who are reminiscent to the original movie years, like how the sequel captures the soul of the 1988 film but creates its own take. Horror and comedy continue to mix well and the nostalgic quality balancing with fresh ideas.
Where the movie is strong is in its visuals and the desire to maintain practical effects, for example the decision to keep the handcrafted feel of the original pays huge dividends, giving us the experience unlike anything else in today's CGI heavy landscape. The afterlife sequences are pretty impressive, full of imaginative set pieces and creature designs that never feel stagnant or cliché, well I might say I'm biased but I think I'm not wrong on this one.
It was expected for Lydia to make that desperate deal with Beetlejuice to help save her daughter after Astrid gets trapped in the afterlife trying to find her dead father. Lydia finally realizes that in order to reconcile with her daughter she has to give up her television show; Beetlejuice has to fight the vengeful ex-wife Delores. Astrid also learns that perhaps the family you get is much better than the one you want, a very poignant thematic element Nethertheless, this is an excellent Mother and daughter message for exploring audiences of both Beetlejuice movies.
As I mention above I think the plan is to go for a third movie to close the deal and I feel like they have to, to be honest just because of the tittle of the movie, we all know its Beetlejuice times 3! ,so we might return to see some more adventures in the afterlife. While there are a lot of stories to tell in this world, the expanded world building of the afterlife with Willem Dafoe's character Wolf Jackson says there is a lot more we can learn about this universe, its up to imagination, this is not the case where there is an actual lore and rules to be broken just to bring some more content to the big screen. Audience approval, and a successful search for a balance between familiar and new backgrounds, can undoubtedly help to start a third part. The fact that in this movie, Astrid is already introduced as a new generation of the Deetz family also gives some opportunities for the future that are already set because the ending is rather open.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) works because it has found a way to take what made the original work and create its own identity, mostly with suspenseful practical effects, Burton’s gothic aesthetic and energetic performances by the cast prove this kind of cinema handcraft almost forgotten art can bring in great movies. Despite being at times overwhelmed with plots and characters, the movie has enough entertainment to pay respects to the first movie while it gets ready to start the next movies. In my opinion its strength comes from its capacity to extent the wild supernatural parts with the genuine passionate parts among its characters. While some story lines, such as Delores's revenge plot, could have been taken further, the total package delivers what viewers of the original movie and animated series will want out of a Beetlejuice sequel, a weird, wild and unexpectedly tender continuation of the Beetlejuice saga.
