If there is a movie franchise more disrespected than Star Wars, I really don't know. Considering everything that has been released since the original movies in the universe created by George Lucas, seeing how this project is losing its essence is something really worrying and discouraging (especially for true fans, which is not my case... but as a cinephile, it is impossible not to question Hollywood's greed using this franchise).

Recently, I just read that by the year 2027, three more movies in the franchise will be released by Disney, and I automatically wonder “Where do they get so many stories from?” and I can't find a solid answer. I can only see all of this as a predatory way of exploring a saga that somehow has great respect from its most loyal fans, but that has not managed to update itself to the point of embracing its new fans.

In addition to movies, there is also the expanded universe for television series, which are just other ways to have more money entering the company's coffers. Yes, the universe is still extremely popular and could certainly be explored to tell more stories that George Lucas himself had not even thought of decades ago, but the big problem is that the vast majority of projects are not designed to be good, just to earn more money.

Personally speaking, I think it must be very painful to be a fan of this saga, because absolutely nothing like it has ever been seen with any other. There is a real narrative “implosion” on the way, because there is nothing more efficient to be told. What there are are parallel stories that don't work so well alone, as they depend on forces that can only be found in their original material. It's time to leave this universe alone and stop living on crumbs.

Si hay una franquicia cinematográfica más irrespetada que Star Wars, realmente no lo sé. Además de las películas, también existe el universo ampliado de las series de televisión, que no son más que otras formas de tener más dinero entrando en las arcas de la compañía. Eu só consigo enxergar tudo isso como uma maneira predatória de explorar uma saga que de alguma maneira tem um respeito muito grande de seus fãs mais leais, mas que não conseguiu se atualizar a ponto de abraçar os novos seus fãs.

Além dos filmes, há também o universo expandido para as séries de televisão, que são apenas outras maneiras de ter mais dinheiro entrando nos cofres da empresa. Sim, o universo ainda é extremamente popular e certamente poderia ser explorado para contar mais estórias que o próprio George Lucas sequer havia pensado décadas atrás, mas o grande problema é que a grande maioria dos projetos não são pensados para serem bons, apenas para ganhar mais dinheiro.

Particularmente falando, eu acho que deve ser muito doloroso ser fã dessa saga, porque absolutamente nada parecido já foi visto com nenhuma outra. Há uma verdadeira “implosão” narrativa a caminho, porque não há nada mais eficiente para ser contado. O que há são estórias paralelas que não funcionam tão bem sozinhas, pois dependem de forças que só podem ser encontradas no seu material original. É hora de deixar esse universo em paz e para de viver de migalhas.

It is a 2009 Argentine film based on the novel La pregunta de sus ojos, it tells the story of Benjamín Espósito, a former judicial worker who has decided to write a novel about a homicide case in which he worked 20 years ago and in order to write his story he meets again the woman who was his boss at that time, the love of his life that he has kept secret.

Plot

The protagonist is Benjamin, an old and lonely man who had no children. After his retirement he was motivated to write a novel about a crime that went unpunished in a certain way, the victim was a young woman found in her own home with signs of rape and torture was murdered in broad daylight while her husband was working, it was a time where forensic evidence was not so advanced and most cases were solved by testimonies and possible coincidences.

As it was a brutal homicide it was covered by the press and the police had to find a culprit quickly, so without further evidence they proceeded to prosecute 3 men who were working construction near the site of the murder, these were undocumented migrants, the easy prey to involve and close the case. In addition, they served as a means of pressure and dispute of a prosecutor who was an enemy of Benjamin. A scene that seemed to me more fact than fiction.

The case was closed, but Benjamin was not convinced and continued investigating attending the victim's house and one day reviewing the old photos he observed how a man was looking at her in all the photos and decided to look for him, tying the ends and giving with the real murderer, while that happened he realized how patiently the husband of the victim continued to love her in silence in the hope that the murderer of his wife will pay for what he did.

Again, the trial was opened and the real murderer was sentenced, but this is where the story starts to get good, this criminal for good behavior and doing favors from prison to high government officials went free, then he went to work as an escort for politicians, this man now had power and knew who was behind his conviction.

In this part of the film I felt so frustrated and angry, as expressed by the characters of Benjamin, who was the prosecutor and the now widowed husband. Powerlessness and desire for justice were what I wanted, but not the justice of the laws we just saw, this one was useless.

These events were part of the past and Benjamin was only remembering them, he was able to find this murderer thanks to the help of his best friend and co-worker, who later became a victim of the criminal's revenge and who was able to defend his friend until the end, in this part of the movie friendship is presented as an unbreakable value and a treasure to whoever finds it. This part brought tears to my eyes.

While Benjamin was writing his novel, he realized that there were things about this case that were still unsolved and asked for help from his former boss both to read his draft and correct what he was writing in his novel and to dig into the case, finding a surprising story that is relieved at the end.

This film, although of the drama and suspense genre, is complemented by scenes of other genres such as humor, romance, intrigue and crime. It is not only a story of drama and suspense, there are so many elements that evoke feelings of love, nostalgia, pain, suspense, intrigue, impotence, revenge, compassion that keeps the viewer attentive for its unexpected twists and turns and closes with a surprising ending and although I could predict it minutes before, it is still an ending that will leave you with your mouth open.

The staging was careful, the objects that evoke a bygone era such as vehicles, telephones and costumes I really liked, because I remembered some I used 🤭😊.

It is a film that won great awards such as the best Argentine film of all time, Oscar award, Goya, among others and deserved because it is an excellent work of the seventh art and I recommend it especially for adult audiences, who know how laws, governments and societies work.

In the context of spy movies it is quite unusual to find a construction worker who is suddenly thrown into the world of spy activities nice twist for this movie, yet that is the exact concept of a soon to be released action/comedy movie titled The Union (2024) on Netflix. With the main cast starring Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, the film is set to be an exciting action comedy and from the trailer I would not expect more to what I call a one time watch, fits perfectly for the streaming movie profile. The plot revolves around Mike, a construction worker whose life is portrayed by Wahlberg, who gets a new lease in life when his high school sweetheart, Roxanne portrayed by Berry shows up again in his life, not any typical reunion, Roxanne brings Mike into a U. S. intelligence operation and suddenly, the hero finds himself in an environment of espionage adventure that employs gadgets that are not commonly associated with a mechanic’s toolbox.

Now days I think producers and directors have realize that just action sequence scenes are not enough to keep the audience entertain for more than an hour unless its a AAA title movie that involve Batman, John Wick or a bigger action movie name, instead they incorporate comedy as a boost so when ever they ran out of action sequences to pump dopamine then kicks in the comedy side, both Wahlberg and Berry are no strangers to be part of comedy movies, this are the type of mix action / comedy movies I enjoy the most.

The making of this picture from the idea to the screen is as captivating as the given plot, the movie was first known by the title “Our Man from Jersey,” the project became interesting for Netflix in May of 2020, with Wahlberg set to star. The streaming giant’s decision to buy the pitch was an affirmation of their belief in the movie’s ability to interest global audience with the film’s script written by Joe Barton and David Guggenheim from a story by Stephen Levinson was refined in order to perfect the combination of the action, comedy and espionage elements.

Lending his experience to the high profile project is director Julian Farino who has worked for both HBO and BBC, Farino’s professional background is a combination of the British type of directing and the American flair for entertainment, which makes him a rather interesting candidate for a movie that will be a combination of action, comedy, and thriller elements. On television he worked on such popular shows as "Entourage" and "The Newsroom" which proved that he can successfully combine comedy and more dramatic and serious components, which will, without a doubt, come in handy in this project.

The making of the film was global with the shooting starting from March 2022, with various scenes in different areas such as London, New Jersey, as well as the beautiful town of Piran, Slovenia, adding so many awesome landscapes all over the world as they travel from one place to another not only enriches the picture with the changes of scenes but also makes the spy thriller more realistic, perhaps the most exciting part of the shooting was the location in Piran, Slovenia. Only from September 19 to October 4 in 2022, this small village by the sea turned into a shooting place of a movie. Everything that the production team wanted was kept top secret, the contracts for accommodations, closing down the streets and arrangements for a 300 member cast and crew were hidden until the last few days before their arrival.

Leading the cast, there is Mark Wahlberg; he is one of the popular Hollywood actors with experience in many years and different types of the movies, ever since his dramatic debut in "Boogie Nights" to the recent critically acclaimed performance in "The Departed" for which he received an Oscar nomination. Over the years, he has also established himself as a comedian that appeared in "Ted" and "The Other Guys" which makes him quite suitable for this action comedy.

Wahlberg’s co star on this movie is the legendary Halle Berry who became the first black woman to win the Academy award for the best actress award for her role in "Monster’s Ball", Berry is a great actress and has had her fair share of action roles in films such as the "X-men" films and "Die Another Day" as a bond girl, both have previously worked together in "The Perfect Storm".

Seoing the film more serious, J. K. Simmons who acted the astonishing music instructor in the Oscar winning film “Whiplash” is in the cast, whereas Mike Colter, the notable actor of the Marvel’s “Luke Cage” series, also joins the cast with his authority. The final members of the cast are the highly experienced Jackie Earle Haley and Alice Lee who has been in Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark and has also been in Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

Although this film may seem to be an easy going action comedy at first glance, some viewers and critics are wondering if perhaps there is more to this film than the casual viewer might realize, in my case I don't think there is, doubt this movie could be at the level of other streaming hits like any of the three "Extraction" movies. The base of the construction worker who is suddenly drawn into the world of spies and espionage, has resulted in debates on the representation of class struggle and the latent abilities of the common man, although if anyone takes this movie that far I think they are just going over the top with it but I notice this on a few comments online about the movie. Viewers have mentioned that the movie is rather focused on the problem of social class and can be viewed as a commentary on how working people cannot always get a well paid job or a position connected with higher risks but it has been like this for the most part specially when it comes to someone doing labor work, the higher the risk the better the pay, might suck but its the industry.

As always now days we can't escape from comments on how Berry as the women in a higher position than Wahlberg character in the movie might be a representation of power from the female lead on the movie but that is just how society is now days, cant run away from this comments and for me is irrelevant as I don't care or pay attention if the main character is male or female, all I care about is that the content is entertaining.

The filming was probably stopped midway when actors staged a strike in July 2023 due to the Hollywood strike back in the day, such a stop in the filming process would have put a lot of pressure on the production crew to reschedule their plans and shooting sessions and would have also left some of the most important scenes shot mid way, we can only hope this didnt put a dent in the quality of the product.

The strike has not only affected the filming process, but also the post production work and advertisement given that actors are not able to go on press tours or attend the premieres, the marketing campaign for the film must have been severely affected. Continuity of the strike has continued to make it difficult for SAG-AFTRA and the studios to agree on the end and release time for the project. Also, the shooting locations of the film London and Slovenia may have posed another challenge in resuming shooting once the strike is over. It has also potentially inflated the budget of the film because time is money and production costs don’t stop racking up even when the cameras are off.

This action comedy is still creating some noise out there and on sites like IMDB there is a very positive reception been very popular even though it has not come out yet, this is probably because of the main actors been so well known and love by the audience. Such a plot, combined with the cast and international shoot, will make the movie stand out from hundreds of spy films already made, but lets be clear this movie might not bring anything new that we have not seen before on the action spy sub genre. It can promise a refreshing look at the well worn topics, combining comedy and action, which is good for the wide audience.

As the audience, we can hope for a movie that would be fun and which could also open up a discussion on the subjects of class, gender and the latent ability in ordinary folks, Wahlberg character look like he was honing his fight and shooting skills over the movie to even getting to the same level as Berry character. Whether it lives up to these expectations remains to be seen, again for me this might be just another cool one time watch, but this movie has all the potential of becoming a new hit of the action comedy genre, it will make you laugh and cheer as the good guys make their way in the movie but other than that once its over at least I look out to be satisfied with a good ending.

Hello friends! Today I come to share with you my review about the movie A Quiet Place: Day One. I've been wanting to see it for a while and finally I was able to do it, I'm a big fan of these movies so I went with high expectations, let's see if I could fulfill them.

En esta ocasión nos encontramos en el inicio del apocalipsis alienígena en la ciudad de Nueva York. Nuestra protagonista es una mujer enferma de cáncer en etapa terminal que está de visita en la ciudad para ver una obra de teatro y comer pizza en el lugar donde solía ir con su padre. Sin embargo, todo queda trunco cuando estos seres empiezan a caer del cielo al mejor estilo meteorito y comienza el caos. En su intento por escapar de estas criaturas se encuentra con Eric, un joven estudiante que está muy asustado y sufre ataques de pánico. Ambos, junto al gato terapéutico de la mujer, deberán encontrar un modo de sobrevivir y salir de la ciudad antes de que sea demasiado tarde.

This time we find ourselves at the beginning of the alien apocalypse in New York City. Our protagonist is a terminally ill woman with cancer who is visiting the city to see a play and eat pizza at the place where she used to go with her father. However, everything is cut short when these beings begin to fall from the sky in the best meteorite style and chaos begins. In her attempt to escape from these creatures, she meets Eric, a young student who is very scared and suffering from panic attacks. The two of them, along with the woman's therapeutic cat, must find a way to survive and get out of the city before it's too late.

Como les decía, iba con muy buenas expectativas acerca de esta película, y me gustó, pero para serles sincera esperaba mucho más. La historia estuvo buena, me mantuvo en suspenso toda la película, de verdad terminé muy tensionada. Aunque la gran culpa de esto fue del gato, me daba angustia de solo pensarlo, no pongan animales en este tipo de películas porque sufro. Pero sentí que se quedó corta en cuanto al verdadero inicio del apocalipsis, más bien no fue el día 1 de toda la ciudad, sino un día en la vida de Sam, esta mujer enferma que ya no tenía nada que perder, lo único que ansiaba era recorrer los lugares donde iba con su padre.

As I said, I had very good expectations about this movie, and I liked it, but to be honest I expected much more. The story was good, it kept me in suspense the whole movie, I really ended up very tense. Although the cat was to blame for this, it gave me anguish just thinking about it, don't put animals in this kind of movies because I suffer. But I felt that it fell short in terms of the real beginning of the apocalypse, rather it was not day 1 of the whole city, but a day in the life of Sam, this sick woman who had nothing to lose, the only thing she longed for was to go to the places where she went with her father.

Me hubiera gustado saber más acerca de esta invasión, el actuar del gobierno y las autoridades, los momentos de búsqueda y rescate. Todo me da a entender que era un ataque esperado o al toque se dieron cuenta de que estás criaturas se manejan por el sonido por eso les decían a los ciudadanos que guardarán silencio. Pero, también sentí que hacían más ruido del que deberían, incluso con las pisadas al caminar y las criaturas a veces no aparecían.

I would have liked to know more about this invasion, the actions of the government and the authorities, the moments of search and rescue. Everything gives me to understand that it was an expected attack or at the touch they realized that these creatures are driven by sound that's why they told the citizens to keep quiet. But, I also felt that they were making more noise than they should, even with their footsteps as they walked and the creatures sometimes did not appear.

Las actuaciones me gustaron bastante, esperaba ver esta película en gran parte por sus actores, me daba curiosidad ver a nuevos personajes inmersos en este caos que conocimos en sus antecesoras. Al gato lo ame, pero me daba muchísimo estrés verlo jajaja. La historia estuvo buena a nivel humano, me gusta ver el vínculo de unión que se forma en estos momentos donde no te queda otra que aferrarte a desconocidos para seguir con vida. La amistad entre Eric y Sam fue muy linda, se apoyaron mutuamente y se dieron fuerzas.

I liked the performances quite a lot, I was expecting to see this movie largely because of its actors, I was curious to see new characters immersed in this chaos that we knew in its predecessors. I loved the cat, but it gave me a lot of stress to see him hahaha. The story was good on a human level, I like to see the bond of union that is formed in these moments where you have no choice but to cling to strangers to stay alive. The friendship between Eric and Sam was very nice, they supported each other and gave each other strength.

Fue una buena producción, aunque de verdad siento que se quedó un poco corta. Me gustó mucho más ver el inicio del apocalipsis que mostraron en la segunda película. De todos modos, disfruté de esta película, hacía mucho que no sentía tanta tensión, me mantuvo entretenida y atenta a cualquier movimiento que sucediera. Así que le doy el visto bueno.

It was a good production, although I really feel it fell a little short. I liked much more to see the beginning of the apocalypse that they showed in the second movie. Anyway, I enjoyed this movie, I haven't felt so much tension in a long time, it kept me entertained and attentive to any movement that happened. So I give it a thumbs up.

Mature romance movies for adult audiences with a real, quality, immersive and engaging narrative can be considered a great achievement (at least in my point of view). Contrary to what many people think, marriage is not the most legitimate way of showing love, but rather just another social convention to reaffirm the commitment between two people to religion and society. Concurso CineTV: “Historia de un matrimonio”, la vida en un romance del mundo real.

Las películas románticas para adultos con una narrativa real, de calidad, inmersiva y atractiva pueden considerarse un gran logro (al menos desde mi punto de vista). He aquí un ejemplo de lo que estoy diciendo. Escrito y dirigido por el cineasta Noah Baumbach, este poderoso drama llamado Historia de un matrimonio no es una película sobre la construcción de una relación amorosa, sino más bien sobre cómo una relación amorosa puede deteriorarse con el tiempo. Un proceso de deconstrucción dramática que resulta muy interesante de ver por su poder reflexivo.

Al contrario de lo que mucha gente piensa, el matrimonio no es la forma más legítima de demostrar amor, sino más bien una convención social más para reafirmar el compromiso de dos personas con la religión y la sociedad. En cierto modo, esta película funciona dentro de esa “cúpula” dramática, que utiliza el divorcio como eficiente motor para hacer que sus dos protagonistas “orbiten” sobre sí mismos y sus respectivas experiencias. Todo ello acaba impactando no sólo en su convivencia, sino principalmente en sus respectivas decisiones.

Nicole y Charlie son una pareja que está pasando por un difícil proceso de separación. Lo que podría haber sido relativamente sencillo termina complicándose porque tienen un hijo pequeño, Henry. Intentando evitar que el niño sufra el divorcio de sus propios padres, eligen vivir bajo el mismo techo sin oficializar todo este agotador proceso. Sin embargo, el divorcio teóricamente amistoso acaba convirtiéndose en una experiencia muy dolorosa para todos, dejándoles unas cicatrices muy fuertes, que quizás ni el tiempo podrá sanar.

Trabajar con la mirada refinada de Baumbach fue fundamental para darle el tono que el guión necesitaba para convertirse en algo muy nítido para el público adulto, encargándose de mostrar una história de amor real, sin elementos canónicos (en términos de amor incondicional o amor puramente romántico) y con un planteamiento narrativo brutal a través de diálogos muy inteligentes y puramente humanos, llenos de una carga dramática muy pesada que sin duda abre espacio a muchas reflexiones. Una novela poderosa, pero que se basa en su lado más íntimo (y realista).

Dirigido por el dúo Adam Driver y Scarlett Johansson, el desempeño del elenco es realmente muy bueno (en particular, lo que Driver y Johansson hacen como pareja, incluso si algunos personajes secundarios logran robar escenas con más frecuencia que ellos porque son personajes más interesantes en seguir a lo largo de esta trama, que acaba siendo un contrapunto a la esencia de la idea que da vida al guión), y elevar la calidad del material. Concurso CineTV: “História de um Casamento”, a vida em um romance do mundo real.

Filmes de romance maduros para o público adulto com uma narrativa real, de qualidade, imersiva e envolvente podem ser considerados um grande feito (ao menos no meu ponto de vista). Eis aqui um exemplo do que eu estou afirmando. Escrito e dirigido pelo cineasta Noah Baumbach, esse poderoso drama chamado História de um Casamento não é um filme sobre a construção de uma relação de amor, mas sim, sobre como uma relação de amor pode ir se deteriorando ao longo do tempo. Um processo de desconstrução dramática muito interessante de ser visto pelo seu poder reflexivo.

Ao contrário do que muitas pessoas pensam, o casamento não é a forma mais legítima de demonstrar amor, mas sim, apenas mais uma convenção social para reafirmar o compromisso entre duas pessoas perante a religião e à sociedade. De uma certa maneira, este filme trabalha dentro dessa “redoma” dramática, que utiliza o divórcio como à sua eficiente força motriz para fazer com que os seus dois protagonistas “orbitem” sobre si mesmos, e suas respectivas experiências. Tudo isso acaba impactando não apenas na convivência entre eles, mas principalmente nas suas respectivas decisões.

Nicole e Charlie são um casal que está vivendo um difícil processo de separação. O que poderia ter sido relativamente simples, acaba se tornando complicado porque eles têm um filho pequeno, Henry. Tentando evitar que à criança sofra com o divórcio dos próprios pais, eles então optam por viver sobre o mesmo teto enquanto não oficializam todo esse processo desgastante. No entanto, o divórcio teoricamente amigável acaba se tornando uma experiência bem dolorosa para todos, lhes trazendo algumas marcas muito fortes, e que talvez nem mesmo o tempo pode ser capaz de cicatrizar.

Liderado pela dupla Adam Driver e Scarlett Johansson, a performance do elenco é realmente muito boa (em especial, o que Driver e Johansson fazem enquanto casal, mesmo que alguns personagens coadjuvantes consigam roubas cenas com mais frequência do que eles por serem personagens mais interessantes de serem acompanhados ao longo dessa trama, o que acaba sendo um contraponto a essência da ideia que dá vida ao roteiro), e elevam a qualidade do material. Uma trama sobre um casal conturbado, que viu o amor deles se desgastar, “implodindo” em meio ao caos da vida real.

Without a doubt it is a story that is worth seeing, with family, with friends, you have an entertaining, enjoyable moment, you enjoy every scene, every achievement experienced.

For my part, I recommend them 100%, they are this style of films that deserve to be seen and awarded.

Hace poco también había salido una historia algo parecida, una mujer de 60 años, que al igual que Trudy lucho hasta alcanzar su sueño, historias inspiradoras cómo estás son las que valen la pena ver y sobre todo promocionar más.

Un film lleno de simplicidad y emotivo, con estilo de época, antaño que muchos nos gustan, porque nos hace viajar en el tiempo, con actuaciones impecables, y escenas cautivadoras.

Sin duda es una historia que vale la pena ver, en familia, con amigos, se pasa un momento entretenido, ameno, se disfruta cada escena, cada logro vivido.

Por mi parte se los recomiendo al 100%, son este estilo de películas que merecen ser vistas y galardonadas.

The Instigators (2024) is a new action comedy film that could turn out to be a good one-time watch but I would not expect more than that. This movie features some actors at the top of Hollywood standards, with Matt Damon and Casey Affleck as the main leads who are two burglars by profession. It’s not only about the cast; even the plot of the story is going to be a rollercoaster of laughter, adrenaline, and probably a few drama scenes here and there. The film is based on Rory, a struggling dad who goes on a heist with Cobby, an ex-convict, and it does not turn out as planned. If that was not enough, they draw Rory’s therapist into the conflict. It’s a recipe for anarchy, which is what we anticipate to see.

What has stirred up the interest of people is the cast that appears behind the scenes. The man responsible for The Bourne Identity once again returns as the director, Doug Liman, famous for his ability to turn Hollywood films on their head. Now it seems he is applying the same on this project. Thanks to the casting, the realistic localization of Boston, which is not only a stunning background, and the combination of action and humor in the storyline, this film is likely to be a good watch.

Fundamentally, this is an action movie for which the robbery is unsuccessful. Rory, the main character played by Matt Damon, is a father who finds himself at the lowest point in life. He gets involved with Cobby, an ex-convict played by Casey Affleck, with the aim of robbing a racketeer political candidate. It is the so-called one last heist kind of movie, but things go terribly wrong.

What makes this stand out from your regular heist film is the introduction of a character, Dr. Donna Rivera, Rory’s therapist portrayed by Hong Chau. She gets drawn into their plan to escape, and this brings an element of suspense to the movie. We are left with three very different individuals who are now fleeing the law and other angry criminals, but I am sure a few other things are waiting for them ahead; it can't be just that simple.

Boston is not only the setting of the movie but, more or less, it is a character in the film as well. It has been revealed that they did shoot some major stunts at places actually around the city, such as the Charles River Esplanade. Since Damon and Affleck are both from Boston, you know they will be using their geographical know-how to make the city an important topic within the movie.

Yes, Matt Damon and Casey Affleck have been friends for a long time; they have acted in a movie together before. Their background is that they have known each other for a long time, so their on-screen relationship as Rory and Cobby promises to be full of chemistry. This is quite against type-casting because Damon, who plays Jason Bourne, is suddenly an ordinary man who finds himself in a situation he cannot handle.

The movie depends not only on two heroes and two leading actors. Hong Chau, who has been receiving much attention recently due to her performances, is the therapist who is also dragged into the insanity. There is Paul Walter Hauser, Michael Stuhlbarg, and even a music artist Jack Harlow, who join the cast. Said cast is supported by veterans like Ving Rhames and Ron Perlman, who must be expected to bring out some of the scene’s best.

This director, Doug Liman, always likes to stir things up, and he will be doing so in this project. He has said how making this movie gives him the feeling of going back to his independent film days. This also tells that the process is less rigid than the typical Hollywood production, with the actors being able to contribute to the script and the ability to improvise. This could be a good way to get some rather realistic and, at the same time, amusing scenes in front of the camera.

The movie is being produced under the Artists Equity banner, a company founded by the star of the movie Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Cinematic Studios are attempting to change things for the better by removing some of the typical Hollywood flab that is not really necessary. This could mean a better, more concentrated movie that does not require time and money for elements not directly connected to the story.

Looking at The Instigators as the next action comedy movie in the genre, laughing and getting punched with multiple action scene sequences is a definition for a great time. Despite having celebrities in the lead roles, the local culture and flavor of Boston, along with a new style of making movies, make it quite different from any regular commercial American movie. That’s why, with Matt Damon and Casey Affleck starring in such a film and Doug Liman as a director, I'm expecting this movie to be a great watch. I have to say I might be a bit biased here since Matt Damon is one of my favorite actors.

What one can easily notice is that the movie in question can be a lot more than just a film that will make people laugh. It almost gets real here, where one can see the concepts of friendship, repentance, and how far people can go when cornered. All of this encapsulated in an intense action-comedy.

Whether you go for the Boston locations, the abundant cast, or simply for an entertaining night at the cinema, this film appears to be set for such. It is a fact that the most interesting movies are always those where familiar actors are tried in new genres and where directors dare to experiment not only with the script but also with the cast. Until the movie comes out, one thing is certain: this is not your ordinary movie about stealing from others. Everything indicates that it is going to be an action-comedy in the best tradition of American movies, and perhaps even a message movie to boot, all set in one of America’s most significant cities.

Synopsis: Finney Shaw is a young man who ends up being kidnapped by a sadistic psychopath, who traps him in a soundproof basement. From then on, his life becomes an even greater nightmare when he discovers that he can maintain a strange connection with his previous victims through a telephone in the wall, but that it is disconnected.

One of the worst things that can happen to me when I'm about to watch a movie is expectations that aren't met (I personally get very frustrated when this happens). This movie is a very classic example that expectations can easily not align with reality. However, in this case, I can say that most of the blame was on the reviews I had read before. For the most part, all of them were very positive, others excellent, and few of them were mixed and/or negative (and there is no way to disagree with this third group).

Cinema com Rapadura

Based on a short story published in 2004 by Joe Hill (who is the son of the master of horror stories Stephen King), everything that happens here has a great premise, but has a very problematic narrative construction as it opts too much for the subjectivity of facts instead of of a more realistic aspect (although there are supernatural elements included). Having child kidnapping in a decade where this was not considered a very “common” act as its main subject, the script tries to do the best within this idea, but its development is severely hampered.

Despite the vast majority of its characters being interesting, charismatic, intelligent and relatively well constructed (with the exception of the villain himself, which ends up being a huge disappointment), the plot fails to pick up a satisfactory pace to the point of turning the project into something truly good. The tense moments exist, and manage to create a very intriguing atmosphere of suspense (in fact, some of them are a very positive surprise because they have very profound impacts on the essence of the narrative), but there is not a very efficient constancy throughout the running time.

Cinematório

I would say that until halfway through the script things are working satisfactorily, and could have easily gone to much more intense and immersive levels. This ends up not happening, and a large part of this problem lies in the movie's great threat: a killer who in theory should be sadistic and very well constructed in the plot, but who in practice ends up just being the representation of something that remains unknown even after the conclusion of the facts. An average performance by Ethan Hawke, but with such a short screen time, it doesn't have any stronger impacts.

The pre-teen cast (which is led by Mason Thames, who may do more promising projects in the future) ends up becoming the most pertinent layer of a plot (their chemistry on screen is very evident, as is the evolution of the protagonist himself), which despite sounding very obvious at times, remains intriguing even though it is not well developed due to the lack of objectivity of the facts. The supernatural side of the plot adds enriching and very controversial elements, but they are still not enough to keep the movie standing the entire time.

Parada Temporal

Recycling some clichés from the horror genre (more specifically from past decades), the project brings little innovation and fails to connect its events in a convincing way. The best example of this is the fact that the mysterious disconnected telephone on the wall never gets its due role. Any and all explanations about voices or other events linked to it are never explained, leaving the audience to create their own theories about what they want to express within the plot. A simple accessory, but which had much more significant potential.

There are some inconsistencies in the plot that end up making the story even less believable (like the supernatural side itself being carried out without the slightest credulity by a pre-teen who doesn't even really understand how she can have some visions about the future, or the fact that police officers start to believe her visions from one moment to the next simply because they are unable to advance their own investigations). This further undermines the outcome of a climax that is apathetic and at times even “pathetic” due to the way it was executed on screen.

Dexerto

Under the command of director Scott Derrickson (who had in his hands the relatively average script written by six hands... which also does not exempt him from having done a merely reasonable job within a simple “formula”), The Black Phone hides the unexplored potential in its essence, but unfortunately chooses too modest paths (with the exception of some physically and psychologically violent scenes) to try to entertain the audience within a dome of suspense and horror. This is not a total waste, but rather a lack of depth.

CRÍTICA DE PELÍCULA: “Black Phone” (2021)

En su mayoría, todas ellas fueron muy positivas, otras excelentes y pocas fueron mixtas y/o negativas (y no hay forma de estar en desacuerdo con este tercer grupo).

Todas y cada una de las explicaciones sobre voces u otros eventos vinculados a él nunca se explican, dejando que la audiencia cree sus propias teorías sobre lo que quieren expresar dentro de la trama. Un accesorio sencillo, pero que tenía un potencial mucho mayor.

Hay algunas inconsistencias en la trama que terminan haciendo la historia aún menos creíble (como que el lado sobrenatural en sí es llevado a cabo sin la más mínima credulidad por una preadolescente que ni siquiera entiende realmente cómo puede tener algunas visiones sobre el futuro), o el hecho de que los policías empiezan a creer sus visiones de un momento a otro simplemente porque no pueden avanzar en sus propias investigaciones). Esto socava aún más el desenlace de un clímax apático y en ocasiones incluso “patético” por la forma en que fue ejecutado en pantalla.

Uma das piores coisas que eu pode acontecer comigo quando eu estou prestes a assistir algum filme, são expectativas que não são atendidas (eu particularmente fico muito frustrado quando isso acontece). Este filme é um exemplo muito clássico de que as expectativas podem facilmente não ser alinhadas com a realidade. No entanto, neste caso, eu posso dizer que a maior parte da culpa foram das críticas que eu já havia lido antes. Em sua maioria, todas elas eram muito positivas, outras excelentes, e poucas delas eram mistas e/ou negativas (e não há como discordar deste terceiro grupo).

Baseado em um conto publicado em 2004 por Joe Hill (que é filho do mestre dos contos de horror Stephen King), tudo o que acontece aqui tem uma ótima premissa, mas tem uma construção narrativa bem problemática por optar muito pela subjetividade dos fatos ao invés de um aspecto mais realista (ainda que haja elementos sobrenaturais incluídos). Tendo o sequestro infantil em uma década onde isso não era considerado um ato muito “comum” como o seu principal assunto, o roteiro procura fazer o melhor dentro desta ideia, mas tem o seu desenvolvimento prejudicado fortemente.

Apesar da grande maioria dos seus personagens seres interessantes, carismáticos, inteligentes e relativamente bem construídos (com exceção do próprio vilão, o que acaba sendo uma grande decepção), a trama não consegue engatar um ritmo satisfatório a ponto de tornar o projeto em algo realmente bom. Os momentos tensos existem, e conseguem criar um clima de suspense muito intrigante (aliás, alguns deles são uma surpresa muito positiva porque tem impactos bem profundos na essência da narrativa), mas não há uma constância muito eficiente ao longo do tempo de projeção.

Eu diria que até a metade do roteiro as coisas vão funcionando de maneira satisfatória, e poderiam ter facilmente ido para níveis muito mais intensos e imersivos. Isso acaba não acontecendo, e uma grande parte desse problema reside na grande ameaça do filme: um assassino que em teoria deveria ser sádico e muito bem construído na trama, mas que na prática acaba sendo apenas a representação de algo que permanece incógnito até mesmo após a conclusão dos fatos. Uma performance mediana do Ethan Hawke, mas com o tempo de tela tão curto, não tem impactos mais fortes.

O elenco pré-adolescente (que é liderado por Mason Thames, que pode vir a fazer projetos mais promissores no futuro) acaba se tornando a camada mais pertinente de uma trama (a química deles na tela é muito evidente, assim como à evolução do protagonista em si), que apesar de soar muito óbvia em alguns momentos, se mantém intrigante mesmo não sendo algo bem desenvolvido pela falta de objetividade dos fatos. O lado sobrenatural da trama agrega elementos enriquecedores e bem controversos, mas que ainda sim, não são suficientes para manter o filme de pé o tempo inteiro.

Reciclando alguns clichês do gênero horror (mais especificamente de décadas passadas), o projeto traz pouca inovação e não conseguem conectar seus acontecimentos de uma maneira convincente. O maior exemplo disso é o fato do tão misterioso telefone desconectado na parede nunca ter o devido protagonismo. Toda e qualquer explicação sobre vozes ou outros acontecimentos ligados a ele nunca são explicados, deixando o público criar às suas próprias teorias sobre o que ele quer expressar dentro da trama. Um acessório simples, mas que tinham um potencial muito mais significativo.

Há algumas inconsistências na trama que acabam tornando a estória em algo ainda menos crível (como o próprio lado sobrenatural sendo protagonizado sem a maior credulidade por uma pré-adolescente que nem entende direito como ela pode ter algumas visões sobre o futuro, ou o fato dos policiais começarem a acreditar nas visões dela de uma hora para outra simplesmente porque não conseguem avançar nas suas próprias investigações). Isso vai minando ainda mais o desfecho de um clímax que é apático e em alguns momentos até “patético” pela maneira como foi executado na tela.

Sob o comando do diretor Scott Derrickson (que tinha disponível em suas mãos o roteiro relativamente mediano escrito a seis mãos... o que também não o isenta de ter feito um trabalho apenas razoável dentro de uma “fórmula” simples), O Telefone Preto esconde o potencial inexplorado na sua essência, mas que infelizmente opta por caminhos modestos demais (com exceção de algumas cenas fisicamente e psicologicamente violentas) para tentar entreter o público dentro de uma redoma de suspense e horror. Não se trata de um desperdício total, mas sim de uma falta de aprofundamento.

The veteran French filmmaker Catherine Breillat returns with another film that deals with a recurring theme in her extensive filmography. Flesh, desire. Approaching her eighties, she remains faithful to her style. I recommend that you look up her previous films. Several of them were quite well known, such as Romance X, a film in which adult film star Rocco Siffredi played the male lead.

With a leisurely tone, in this film the director takes us into the life of a family consisting of lawyer Anne, her husband Pierre, two adopted girls and Theo, Pierre's teenage son from a previous marriage. Focused on their work and with a comfortable life, being part of the economically privileged class. This perhaps affects the perception of the majority viewer, not being able to identify with these characters, but at the same time I think it works so that we don't empathise with them.

La veterana cineasta francesa Catherine Breillat regresa con otra película que aborda un tema recurrente en su extensa filmografía. La carne, el deseo. Acercandose a los ochenta años, sigue fiel a su estilo. Le recomiendo que busque sus películas anteriores. Varias de ellas fueron bastante sonadas, como Romance X, una película en la que la estrella del cine para adultos Rocco Siffredi interpretaba al protagonista masculino.

Con un tono pausado, en esta película el director nos adentra en la vida de una familia formada por la abogada Anne, su marido Pierre, dos niñas adoptadas y Theo, el hijo adolescente de Pierre de un matrimonio anterior. Centrados en su trabajo y con una vida cómoda, al formar parte de la clase económicamente privilegiada. Esto quizás afecte a la percepción del espectador mayoritario, no pudiendo identificarse con estos personajes, pero al mismo tiempo creo que funciona para que no empaticemos con ellos.

The first scene is crucial in making Anne's personality clear to us. She is a lawyer who represents young women who have suffered abuse. She is an excellent lawyer. She knows how to push and with one look she can scare. Her clients break for a reason. She prepares them so that they are not destroyed in court by the party defending the abuser. The filmmaker shows us who Anne is and that she is willing to do anything to defend her truth.

I remember that in a screenwriting class, the teacher gave us an exercise in which the story revolved around an infidelity. When he presented the scripts to all of us in the class, he made the following observation: You have to add more intensity to the conflict and this is achieved when those involved in the conflict are very close to each other. That is why literature and film tell stories in which the conflicts take place in a family setting. It adds more drama. It makes the conflict have more serious and painful repercussions.

The film tells how a woman like Anna, a professional woman in her fifties, always focused and seemingly happy, succumbs to carnal desire and ends up having an affair with her teenage stepson. This is the central conflict and the filmmaker, using the camera sublimely, takes us through the earthquake that this little affair will provoke.

It is the viewer who will assume the role of judge. The director does not take sides with any of her characters. She shows them and lets them follow their actions according to the construction she has made of each one. Each spectator, according to his or her moral prejudices, will applaud or condemn. It is not only the age difference of the passionate lovers, but also the deceit, lies and manipulation in the final development of the conflict. Who are the victims: Theo, Pierre or Anne? Or maybe none of them is a victim and they get what they deserve.

La primera escena es crucial para que nos quede clara la personalidad de Anne. Es una abogada que representa a mujeres jóvenes que han sufrido abusos. Es excelente abogada. Sabe presionar y con una mirada puede asustar. Sus clientes se quiebran por una razón. Las prepara para que no sean destruidas en los tribunales por la parte que defiende al maltratador. El cineasta nos muestra quién es Anne y que está dispuesta a todo para defender su verdad.

Recuerdo que en una clase de guión, el profesor nos planteó un ejercicio en el que la historia giraba en torno a una infidelidad. Cuando nos presentó los guiones a todos los del curso, hizo la siguiente observación: Hay que añadir más intensidad al conflicto y eso se consigue cuando los implicados en el conflicto son muy cercanos entre sí. Por eso la literatura y el cine cuentan historias en las que los conflictos se desarrollan en un entorno familiar. Aporta más dramatismo. Hace que el conflicto tenga repercusiones más graves y dolorosas.

La película cuenta cómo una mujer como Anna, profesional, de unos cincuenta años, siempre centrada y aparentemente feliz, sucumbe al deseo carnal y acaba teniendo una aventura con su hijastro adolescente. Este es el conflicto central y la cineasta, utilizando la cámara de forma sublime, nos pasea por el terremoto que provocará esta pequeña aventura.

Es el espectador quien asumirá el papel de juez. La directora no toma partido por ninguno de sus personajes. Los muestra y deja que sigan sus acciones según la construcción que ha hecho de cada uno. Cada espectador, según sus prejuicios morales, aplaudirá o condenará. No es sólo la diferencia de edad de los apasionados amantes, sino también el engaño, la mentira y la manipulación en el desarrollo final del conflicto. ¿Quiénes son las víctimas: ¿Theo, Pierre o Anne? O tal vez ninguno de ellos sea una víctima y tengan lo que se merecen.
