When an unlucky detective is hired to investigate a possible case of adultery, what would apparently be another ordinary job with no major repercussions ends up becoming something much more complex after one of the lovers ends up being mysteriously murdered. Within this context, Who Framed Roger Rabbit becomes one of the most fun and iconic movies of the 80s, not only because of its fun plot (which, by the way, makes some great references to the noir genre), but because of its technology in terms of production (including its more visual aesthetics).

Combining an efficient interaction between humans and cartoons (something that at that time was not yet seen so frequently, much less with so much insight in terms of execution), this movie establishes a different level over comedies that tried to do something similar, and ended up also becoming a reference for the future generation of filmmakers who would try to do the same in the future. A comedy that hits the right tone, and brings an atmosphere of investigation that evolves satisfactorily as it embraces all of its central characters.

Eddie Valiant is a detective who doesn't have much luck in his profession, but everything is about to change when he starts investigating Marvin Acme and Jessica Rabbit, but when the joke factory magnate and owner of Toontown (Mr. Acme) ends up being murdered, Roger Rabbit (who is known for being the superstar of Marron Cartoon) becomes a “conspiracy victim” because he is accused of a crime he did not commit, now he needs to prove his innocence. In this search for justice, he needs to count on Valiant's help, but it won't be easy to solve this great crime.

The script is relatively simple, but it is very creative. Furthermore, it is very assertive in managing to bring together several other cartoon icons, creating a kind of “multiverse” involving them all (because in certain scenes “rival characters” coexisted within the same audiovisual product... which was unusual to be seen in movies from rival companies). Full of good jokes, the script and plot are also captivating for trying to do something different, betting on a surreal level of events. A pearl from the 80s that ages better and better.

From start to finish, this project is a good example of the great cinema that was made throughout the incredible 80s.

Concurso CineTV: “¿Quién engañó a Roger Rabbit?” tiene el alma de los 80.

Cuando un desafortunado detective es contratado para investigar un posible caso de adulterio, lo que aparentemente sería otro trabajo corriente y sin mayores repercusiones acaba convirtiéndose en algo mucho más complejo después de que uno de los amantes acaba siendo misteriosamente asesinado. En este contexto, ¿Quién engañó a Roger Rabbit? se convierte en una de las películas más divertidas e icónicas de los años 80, no sólo por su divertida trama (que, por cierto, hace grandes referencias al género noir), sino por su tecnología. en términos de producción (incluida su estética más visual).

Combinando una eficaz interacción entre humanos y dibujos animados (algo que en aquella época todavía no se veía con tanta frecuencia y mucho menos con tanta perspicacia en cuanto a ejecución), esta película establece un nivel diferente respecto a comedias que intentaron hacer algo similar, y terminaron convirtiéndose también en un referente para la futura generación de cineastas que intentarían hacer lo mismo en el futuro. Una comedia que da en el tono adecuado y aporta una atmósfera de investigación que evoluciona satisfactoriamente abrazando a todos sus personajes centrales.

Llena de buenos chistes, el guión y la trama también resultan cautivadores por intentar hacer algo diferente, apostando por un nivel surrealista de los acontecimientos. Una perla de los años 80 que cada vez envejece mejor.

Escrita por el trío Jeffrey Price, Peter S. Seaman y Gary K. Wolf (bajo un guion de investigación muy interesante, que mezcla tonos cómicos muy eficientes), la película está hábilmente dirigida por Robert Zemeckis para conseguir adentrarse en su propio universo con una Muy interesante riqueza de detalles. Técnicamente, el proyecto también destaca por las cualidades que ofrece en pantalla, centrándose en un espectáculo de colores vibrantes y una gran banda sonora. De principio a fin, este proyecto es una buena muestra del gran cine que se hizo a lo largo de los increíbles años 80.

Quando um detetive azarado é contratado para investigar um possível caso de adultério, o que aparentemente seria um outro trabalho ordinário e sem grandes repercussões, acaba se tornando algo muito mais complexo depois que um dos amantes acaba sendo misteriosamente assassinado. Dentro desse contexto, Uma Cilada para Roger Rabbit se torna um dos filmes mais divertidos e icônicos da década de 80, não apenas por sua trama divertida (que aliás, faz algumas ótimas referências ao gênero noir), mas por sua tecnologia em termos de produção (incluindo sua estética mais visual).

Mesclando uma eficiente interação entre humanos e desenhos animados (algo que naquela época ainda não era visto com tanta frequência, muito menos com tanta perspicácia em termos de execução), este filme estabelece um patamar diferenciado sobre as comédias que tentaram fazer algo parecido, e acabou se tornando também uma referência para à futura geração de cineastas que tentaria fazer o mesmo no futuro. Uma comédia que acerta no tom, e traz todo um clima de investigação que vai evoluindo satisfatoriamente à medida em que abraça todos os seus personagens centrais.

Nessa busca por justiça, ele precisa contar com à ajuda de Valiant, mas não será nada fácil resolver este grande crime.

O roteiro é relativamente simples, mas é bem criativo. Além disso, é muito assertivo ao conseguir juntar diversos outros ícones dos desenhos animados, criando uma espécie de “multiverso” envolvendo todos eles (porque em determinadas cenas “personagens rivais” coexistiam dentro desse mesmo produto audiovisual... o que era incomum de ser visto em filmes de empresas rivais). Repleto de boas piadas, o roteiro à trama também é cativante por tentar fazer alguma coisa diferente, apostando em um nível surreal de acontecimentos. Uma pérola dos anos 80 que envelhece cada vez melhor.

Escrito pelo trio Jeffrey Price, Peter S. Seaman e Gary K. Wolf (sob um argumento investigativo bem interessante, que mistura tons de comédia muito eficientes), o filme é habilmente dirigido por Robert Zemeckis por conseguir mergulhar dentro do seu próprio universo com uma riqueza de detalhes muito interessante. Tecnicamente, o projeto também se destaca pelas qualidades do que entrega na tela, apostando em um show de cores vibrantes e uma ótima trilha sonora. De ponta a ponta, este projeto é um bom exemplo do ótimo cinema que foi feito durante toda a incrível década de 80.

Hello cinephile friends, today I share with you a review that deals with a very particular and controversial topic: Euthanasia, first I will explain how I decided to see this movie, then I will explain in general terms how the events unfold and at the end I will give my opinion about the movie and a reflection.

When I was little I only had two TV channels and in each one, they would promote a movie during the whole week competing for the Sunday prime time, so I would choose the one I liked the most, sometimes they would coincide and I would end up missing one of the two. It was exciting to wait for the weekend just for those two hours of cinema at home, today, on the contrary, I waste time choosing among so many options that come out in the list and what I do to decide is to see the rating and read the review.

With this method I chose Sea Inside, its poster is not flashy, the actor Javier Bardem appears looking at the sky in a relaxed way, I recognized him and knowing that it is based on a true story I decided to go for it.

Sea Inside, is the story of Ramón Sampedro, a writer and former sailor who after an accident during his youth remains bedridden for almost 30 years, this man at 25 years old had already traveled the world as a sailor and at that age had the accident that left him quadriplegic for almost 30 years, tired of living a meaningless life, slave of his thoughts and for love of those who cared for him, he undertook a legal fight to be heard and have the freedom to decide about his life. As it is a delicate issue that involves the laws of society, the moral and religious trial was not an easy or quick process, but it was evident the necessity of the choice to live or die.

Hola amigos cinéfilos, hoy les comparto una reseña que trata de un tema bien particular y polémico La eutanasia, primero explicaré como fue que me decidí a ver esta película, luego explicaré en líneas generales como se desarrollan los hechos y al final daré mi opinión sobre la película y una reflexión.

Cuando era pequeña solo tenía dos canales de televisión y en cada uno, hacían promoción de una película durante toda la semana disputándose el horario estelar del domingo, así que me decidía por la que más me gustaba, a veces coincidan y terminaba perdiéndome una de las dos. Era emocionante esperar el fin de semana solo por esas dos horas de cine en casa, hoy, por el contrario, pierdo tiempo escogiendo entre tantas opciones que salen en la lista y lo que hago para decidirme es ver la calificación y leer la reseña.

Con este método escogí Mar adentro, su póster no es llamativo, aparece el actor Javier Bardem mirando al cielo de forma relajada, lo reconocí y al saber que está basada en una la historia real me decidi por ella.

Mar adentro, es la historia de Ramón Sampedro, un escritor y exmarino que tras un accidente ocurrido durante su juventud permanece postrado en una cama durante casi 30 años este hombre a los 25 años ya había recorrido el mundo como marinero y a esa edad tuvo el accidente que lo dejo cuadraplejico por casi 30 años, cansado de vivir una vida sin sentido, esclavo de sus pensamientos y por amor a los que lo cuidaban emprendió una lucha legal para ser escuchado y disponer de la libertad de decidir sobre su vida. Como es un tema delicado que implica las leyes de la sociedad, el juicio moral y religioso no fue un proceso fácil ni rápido, pero que quedo en evidencia la necesidad de la elección de vivir o morir.

Javier Bardem personifies Ramon who as I mentioned before was a sailor who at a very young age suffered a serious accident when he jumped from a shallow cliff breaking his neck and being left face down, unable to move he was about to die, from there he was left in charge of his family, but this traumatic event is shown in the middle of the film when they are in the process of reconstructing the facts to bring them to trial.

Ramon is a sensible man who feels that he has lived what he had to live and is getting tired of depending on others. Through a stick placed in his mouth he could write his thoughts on a lectern, he had a sense of humor and was emotionally stable. His decision to wish for death was not a product of depression or a desire for attention, it was a genuine desire in full consciousness and with full responsibility.

He had friends that he had kept before the accident and had made new friends, some of them the legal advisors and the lawyer in his case, they helped him at the end of his journey because of the affection they had for him even though they knew they could get into trouble with the law.

While they were in one of the hearings his defense attorney alleged something that stayed in my memory, I don't know if it was real or fiction, but he said:

If attempting one's own life or desiring euthanasia is considered a crime why are those who attempt suicide and survive not prosecuted afterwards?

Javier Bardem personifica a Ramón quien como mencioné anteriormente fue un marinero que muy joven sufrió un grave accidente al lanzarse de un acantilado poco profundo partiéndose el cuello y quedando boca abajo, sin poder moverse estuvo a punto de morir, desde allí quedo a cargo de su familia, pero este evento traumático lo muestran a mitad de la película cuando están en proceso de reconstruir los hechos para llevarlos a juicio.

Ramón es un hombre sensato que siente que ya vivió lo que tenía que vivir y está casando de depender de los demás. A través de una palita que ponían en su boca podía escribir en un atril sus pensamientos, tenía sentido del humor y estaba emocionalmente estable. Su decisión sobre desear la muerte no era producto de depresión o de ganas de llamar la atención, era un deseo genuino en plena consciencia y con toda la responsabilidad.

Tenía amigos que conservaba antes del accidente y había hecho nuevos amigos, algunos de ellos los asesores legales y la abogada de su caso, ellos los ayudaron al final de su camino por el cariño que le tenían aun sabiendo que podían meterse en problemas con la justicia.

Mientras estaban en una de las audiencias su abogado defensor alego algo que se quedó en mi memoria, no sé si fue real o ficción, pero dijo:

"Si atentar contra la propia vida o desear la eutanasia se considera un delito ¿por qué aquellos que intentan suicidarse y sobreviven no son procesados después?"

Euthanasia, if you do not know it is to request death in an assisted manner, is allowed in these countries: Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Canada, Colombia Spain, New Zealand and Australia, I did not know and because of this film I wanted to investigate, it is a controversial issue where all the moral and religious structure of each individual are put in conflict, thoughts like that life is given by God and is who should take it away, or I will be sent to hell for all eternity if I want it or execute it, but in the pragmatic which is the noblest thing we can do, what is the right thing to do? The death penalty is tried and given to some criminals and euthanasia is forbidden. 🤷‍♀️

It must have been very hard to live 30 years in a body that keeps you a slave, when you enjoy traveling and harder to watch your loved ones wear out and get sick from taking care of you. This man went through several questionings among them if it was an accident or a suicide attempt, since he knew that cliff and was a veteran in the sea, but according to his words he watched and when he wanted to turn around he saw himself in the air straight into the water.

If it was an accident, it can happen to anyone, for a little adrenaline many die and others are crippled forever.

The movie may seem a little slow and boring for those who like action, for me it was fine because it was necessary that pace for the subject, it gives the viewer space for reflection.

Although it is about Euthanasia, I think there was a lot of love in the story, love from the family who cared for him without showing his pain and even couple love, with romantic scenes. This brings me to another point: when you love someone you want that person to be happy, the person who really loved him is precisely the one who would help him die because it was what he most wanted and what was going to make him happy so the person who did what he wanted and most longed for his death even if it was against his own will was the one who loved him sincerely. Paradoxical.

I know it sounds somewhat confusing and contradictory, love is giving, letting go, how can love be expressed by taking life, it is a subject that I never stop reflecting on, for example I do not want to see my pets or any family member suffer and if it is in my hands I would approve euthanasia, logic tells me yes, because I would like that if I were in a similar situation, brain dead, paraplegic etc. (God forbid) they would approve it. Then no one would have to sacrifice their life for mine.

But, if I go to the spiritual, there will always be the faith that I could get better, or in the case that the condition is accepted, I could think that it is as it should be, and that it was necessary for the sick person to live in that condition as well as for his family to take care of him, since it is an agreement for the spiritual evolution of all, besides Karma would grow if it interferes in the nature of things.

What decision I would make, I don't know, as much as I think about it I can't decide. Mar adentro is an interesting film, it is not dramatic, although I did shed my good tears, but the intention of the direction is not to influence society about euthanasia, it is to leave an audiovisual record of this precedent. I recommend it for the whole family with adult guidance if children are present.

La eutanasia, si no lo sabes es solicitar la muerte de manera asistida, está permitida en estos países: Países Bajos, Bélgica, Luxemburgo, Canadá, Colombia España, Nueva Zelandia y Australia, no lo sabía y por esta película quise investigar, es un tema controvertido donde se ponen en conflicto toda la estructura moral y religiosa de cada individuo, pensamientos como que la vida la da Dios y es quién debe quitarla, o seré enviada al infierno por toda la eternidad si la quiero o la ejecuto, pero en lo pragmático que es lo más noble que podemos hacer, ¿qué es lo correcto? Se juzga y da la pena de muerte a algunos criminales y se prohíbe la eutanasia. 🤷‍♀️

Debió ser muy difícil vivir 30 años en un cuerpo que te mantiene esclavo, cuando disfrutas de viajar y más duro ver como tus seres queridos se desgastan y enferman por cuidarte. Este hombre pasó por varios cuestionamientos entre ellos si fue un accidente o un intento de suicidio, ya que conocía ese acantilado y era veterano en el mar, pero según sus palabras él observó y cuando quiso darse vuelta se vio en el aire directo al agua.

Si fue un accidente, a cualquiera le puede pasar, por un poco de adrenalina muchos mueren y otros quedan lisiados para siempre.

Sobre la película puede parecer algo lenta y aburrida para los que les gusta la acción, para mí estuvo bien porque era necesario ese ritmo por el tema, le da espació al televidente para la reflexión.

Aunque se trata de la Eutanasia, creo que hubo mucho amor en la historia, amor de la familia que lo cuidaba sin mostrar su dolor y hasta amor de pareja, con escenas románticas. Esto me lleva a otro punto: cuando se ama a alguien se desea que esa persona sea feliz, la persona que realmente lo amaba es aquella que precisamente lo ayudaría a morir porque era lo que él más deseaba y lo que lo iba a hacer feliz entonces aquella persona que hiciera lo que él deseaba y más anhelaba su muerte aunque estuviera en contra de su propia voluntad era la que lo amaba sinceramente. Paradógico.

Sé que suena algo confuso y contradictorio el amor es dar, soltar, ¿cómo se puede expresar amor quitando la vida?, es un tema que no dejo de reflexionar, por ejemplo no quiero ver sufrir ni a mis mascotas ni a ningún familiar y si está en mis manos aprobaría la eutanasía, la lógica me dice que Si, porque me gustaría que si yo me encontrara en una situación similar, en muerte cerebral, parapléjica etc. (Dios no lo permita) la aprobaran. Así nadie tendría que sacrificar su vida por la mía.

Pero, si me voy a lo espiritual siempre existirá la fe en que pudiera mejorar, o en el caso de que se acepte la condición que sea, pudiera pensar que es como debe ser, y que era necesario que tanto el enfermo viviera en esa condición como que su familia lo atendiera, ya que es una acuerdo para la evolución espiritual de todos, además el Karma crecería si te interfiere en la naturaleza de las cosas.

Qué decisión tomaría, no lo sé, por más que lo pienso no puedo decidirme. Mar adentro es una película interesante, no es dramática, aunque sí solté mis buenas lágrimas, pero la intención de la dirección no es influir en la sociedad sobre la eutanasia, es dejar registro audiovisual de este precedente. La recomiendo para toda la familia con la orientación de adultos si hay niños presentes.

The last episode of House of the Dragon which is titled The Burning Mill has given us a peak but this time more realistic of the war of fire that is about to consume the seven kingdom, with the dance of dragons on its way, with the Greens this time at the hands of Criston Cole taking the first steps in actual war. This is still building up whats coming next based on previous events even from the first season, taking a bit much longer that most people would expect for actual war between the two but there is still context to be build before the no point of return on this conflict. We witness the consequences of the earlier scenes, such as the death of baby Jaehaerys and the increasing conflict between the Blacks and the Greens. The show has also added new characters and developed existing ones as the plot of the show progresses. Episode three turn out to be a very busy episode that features the battle at Burning Mill as well as Daemon’s capture of Harrenhal and the setting of the stage for future wars and alliances, in the matter of the Burning Mill battle I would have prefer they explain a bit more of it, I could understand how its not such a big deal for the actual war at hand, both families had grudge since for ever but still a big time jump. As I would imagine rather than been a very dramatic episode like episode 2 this was more about figuring out where both sides stand and whats next.

The series begins with the battle of burning mill between the houses Blackwood and Bracken, that was left just as that "A Centuries Old Symbolic of the Larger Conflict", because it would not really matter much at least for now. This is not just a battle, it is the continuation of the vendetta that started many years ago, these two houses have been enemies for so long that it is impossible to tell as to what actually led to the two houses to start fighting.

This battle is a perfect example of the conflict that is in the process of developing, perfect description of how hatred and ignorance can escalate to the level of a war, as it is seen with the conflict between Rhaenyra and Aegon II for the throne, soon there will be many events that will be consider the start of the war, but in reality they are all excuses.

In King’s Landing the Small Council is discussing the events of the Battle at Burning Mill, but just the more war like ones like Aegon, Aemond and Criston Cole who see it as a declaration of war and the others who want to play it down, when in fact as the rest said it was just another excuse for them to kill each other declaring sides.

The episode slowly starts to paint the picture of how slowly Alicent has no say in these meetings at all or her say has become insignificant, not only she had to wrestle her father when Otto was Hand of The King to make her voice still remain significant but now her "lover", Criston Cole has gone up in the ranks as Hand of The King, out matching her of who has more authority at the small council. Despite her efforts to remain rational and prevent the conflict, the more aggressive members of the council want to go to war, well at least half of them, from now on it would not be strange if Alicent start to become more like Cersie exactly as when Joffrey was king, Alicent will slowly start to become more ruthless and who knows if the table turns and she would be the one looking for Criston Cole. At the same time I would think the same how Aegon, as a king, start to morph into a Joffrey making everyone watching the show want so see him burn in dragon fire same as with Criston Cole but we are not there yet.

The taking of Harrenhal is one of the significant events of the episode, keep in mind that I have not read the books, from what I found online this is the real battle between Dragons that I would expect to watch on episode four, that same scene where Meleys fights Vhagar on one of the trailers. It was a bit disappointing how Daemon took the castle without any fight at all, even the guard who find him was not going to fight he only said "hold", so all he had to do was show up with his dragon, Caraxes and it was enough to have the Ser Simon Strong give up the castle and bend the knee.

The position of Harrenhal is ideal for controlling the Riverlands, this has been the plan on both sides but only Daemon decided to go for it and it was probably the results as his argument with Rhaenyra. As a result Daemon has made a big move in boxing in the Greens by taking Harrenhal, but he only has Caraxes with him, yes a dragon can out number an army but it would take him some time to get rid of the entire army that shows up opening the time frame for a scorpion or two to attack, all it takes is one shot to bring him down.

For the first time the show mention actual Dragon Seeds and probably not as Dragon Riders but to bastards that are Valyrian enough to be consider bastards, in the case of House of The Dragon series, potential dragon riders. This is very important because as more of this Dragon Seeds start to show up at this point in time there are two bastards who are Dragon Seeds, on episode 3 we heard Gaemon Palehair talking about it at a tavern. Same as Hugh Hammer shows on the first two episodes of this season, this is setting up the stage for when Rhaenyra start to gather this men either she call them directly or for some reason they start to departure Kings Landing looking for a better life next to their sibling and ruler, same as on Game of Thrones when war is in full force the small folks will start to suffer way more and having that reverse card on their hand, most Targaryan will go and be with the Blacks.

Towards the end of the episode there is a scene where Rhaenyra and Alicent meet in the sept, this was an intense scene from the moment both Rhaenyra and Mysaria took the "wise" decision to plan how this meeting would happen, basically sneaking Rhaenyra into Kings Landing without anyone noticing, even she jokes about it like OK when I get there what? ring the bells at the Red Keep and ask for Alicent, this is as risky and crazy as it goes without anyone at the Black Counsil knowing of her plan. It is a scene that clears up if Alicent really is a traitor as everyone thinks since she share what Viserys said before his death, she heard him mumbling about Aegon as a prince but it was him talking about the Song of Ice and Fire before his death. The truth comes out and in reality Alicent is not the bitch everyone thinks she is, she made a mistake and obviously would hype on it when she literally heard Viserys said "Aegon...prince to unite the realm", thats is sufficient excuse to think he had change his mind, as a mother she would want Aegon to be king, she trully regrets her mistake when Rhaenyra explains this too her but its too late now.

It is rather sad to watch this scene because now Alicent knows the truth but it does not change anything, this is to the multiple factors that had happen. First her father Otto is not in the council anymore, Criston Cole is the Hand of The King who was sleeping with her, baby Jaehaerys was decapitated by "instructions" of Daemon and the most recent event is the battle of Burning Mill, it is just too much to turn this ship around.

At this point in time the small council especially Aegon, Aemond and Criston Cole are willing to continue the war even if the facts are against them, even if Alicent suddenly tells the truth what is to do about Aegon son? that's enough reason to declare war. A real tragedy to see all this happening just because of Alicent mistake and I would laugh to watch Viserys face watching this entire situation unfolding.

In terms of context this episode was truly satisfying, it was still dramatic but not in the same sense as episode two, it was more about the clearing out the truth and gossips, episode three also makes evident that war has begone with the first troops going out from the Greens. The show now will put more emphasis on alliances, treason and power hunger as how the Greens will try to consume every other family that is on Rahenyras side and how some of them might jump ship at the event of their annihilation. The story is switching gears too preparing the next evolution on the Blacks army as Dragon Seeds are officially introduce, think of dragons as War Jets F-16 fully loaded, even the small dragons can cause a lot of damage to a ground army, the Blacks in this case have the most but not enough riders at the moment so this opens the door for the series to unveil this other dragons from now on, probably not on this season as I think that with what we have is enough but for sure it will on the next season, its been said that HOTD will be at least a four season series which sounds great from an entertaining perspective although I have no idea if the entire story will fit.

I have notice that when it comes to the GOT Universe there is much more information out there or at least people are more aware of this and if you like the show I would advice you NOT to look into this kind of content based on the books themself because most likely you will spoil the show yourself, happen to me already.

I'm catching up on pending series and continuing with the Taylor Sheridan productions. The wait for Yellowstone and 1923 will be longer, so I've watched the first two seasons of Major of Kingstown, which has also had ratings success.

Major of Kingstown was created by Sheridan with Hugh Dillon, a friend of his from the days when they were in the acting business. Dillon is a recurring actor in Sheridan's productions, we've seen him in Yellowstone and I remember him in a key role at the end of the film Wind River, which I have to see again to review.

Dillon is often seen in tough guy movies. Whether they are cops or criminals. They are the kind of characters that fit his physicality. There are actors who are very convincing in those types of roles. In addition to co-creating the series, he plays Ian, a corrupt cop.

The series is set in a fictional town in Michigan. That town Kingstown in the series does not exist, but it is inspired by a Canadian town where there were more than seven prisons and Dillon's place of origin.

Major of Kingstown ha sido creada por Sheridan con Hugh Dillon, amigo suyo desde los tiempos en que se dedicaban a la interpretación. La serie está ambientada en un pueblo ficticio de Michigan. Ese pueblo Kingstown de la serie no existe, pero está inspirado en una ciudad canadiense donde hubo más de siete cárceles y lugar de origen de Dillon.

Testosterone everywhere. A very masculine series. Tough, violent men. The most important characters are all men. The female characters are not like in other Sheridan series. This has generated some criticism from feminists, but we already know that these people criticize everything. For me it is coherent that it is a series with rough, corrupt, despicable male characters. It is a criminal world dominated by men and the niche of the series are male viewers who like criminal intrigues, action and violence.

The first season is the most intense so far. Season three is currently airing, but I will wait until all the episodes are available. The first season establishes the pillars as we discover this world, achieves the element of surprise, even handling clichés of this type of genre. The last two episodes of the first season are excellent. A violent season finale. The second batch of episodes maintains the intensity but there is no longer an element of surprise and it is noticeable that it is becoming more and more comfortable to offer what the viewer is looking for.

Some time ago I read an interview in which the creators said they planned to do seven seasons. I think this is a bit of an exaggeration and may lead to burnout. Although Sheridan is very good at telling stories and stretching them out, there's Yellowstone as an example. Greater Kingstown demands that we accept a lot of situations that are left up in the air.

Testosterona por todas partes. Una serie muy masculina. Hombres duros y violentos. Los personajes más importantes son todos hombres. Los personajes femeninos no son como en otras series de Sheridan. Esto ha generado algunas críticas por parte de las feministas, pero ya sabemos que esta gente lo critica todo. Para mí es coherente que sea una serie con personajes masculinos rudos, corruptos, despreciables. Es un mundo criminal dominado por hombres y el nicho de la serie son los espectadores masculinos a los que les gustan las intrigas criminales, la acción y la violencia.

La primera temporada es la más intensa hasta el momento. Actualmente se está emitiendo la tercera temporada, pero esperaré a que estén disponibles todos los episodios. La primera temporada establece los pilares a medida que vamos descubriendo este mundo, consigue el elemento sorpresa, incluso manejando tópicos de este tipo de género. Los dos últimos episodios de la primera temporada son excelentes. Un final de temporada violento. La segunda tanda de episodios mantiene la intensidad pero ya no hay elemento sorpresa y se nota que cada vez es más cómoda para ofrecer lo que el espectador busca.

Hace algún tiempo leí una entrevista en la que los creadores decían que planeaban hacer siete temporadas. Creo que esto es un poco exagerado y puede provocar agotamiento. Aunque Sheridan es muy bueno contando historias y alargándolas, ahí está Yellowstone como ejemplo. Mayor de Kingstown exige que aceptemos muchas situaciones que quedan en el aire.

We have all had at some time in our lives the fantasy of having a double, that person who has become exactly like us, an identical twin to amuse us and confuse our friends and family, changing personality or if possible life, but can you imagine what would happen if we really had a perfect double who had nothing to do with us and by chance we find out that he or she exists.

The safest thing we would do is to investigate this person, try to locate him or her by all means until we find him or her and tell him or her that he or she is identical to you. I don't know how others would react, but in my case I'm sure I would investigate to the end, ask my parents, try to get them to see me and look for a logical answer to this strange coincidence.

This is what happens in the film Enemy, which begins by showing the life of a history teacher who is a quiet introvert with little social life until one day he is advised to watch a film and that is where he meets his double, who is a film actor in low budget films and with second rate roles, in appearance they are identical, but with a totally opposite personality, he becomes obsessed with coinciding with this actor and becomes closely involved in his life.

Todos hemos tenido alguna vez en la vida la fantasía de tener un doble, aquella persona que se ha exactamente como nosotros, un gemelo idéntico para divertirnos y confundir a nuestros amigos y familiares, cambiando de personalidad o si se puede de vida, pero te imaginas qué sucedería si realmente tuviéramos un doble perfecto que no tuviera nada que ver con nosotros y qué por casualidad nos enteramos de que existe.

Lo más seguro que haríamos es investigar a esta persona, tratar de ubicarla por todos los medios hasta dar con ella y decirle o demostrarle que es idéntico a ti. Yo no sé cómo reaccionarían los demás, pero en mi caso estoy segura de que indagaría hasta el final le preguntarían a mis padres, intentaría que me viera y buscaría una respuesta lógica a esta extraña coincidencia.

Esto es lo que sucede en la película Enemy empieza mostrando la vida de un profesor de historia que es introvertido callado con poca vida social hasta que un día le aconsejan que mire una película y es dónde encuentra a su doble, que es actor de cine de películas de bajo presupuesto y con papeles de segunda, en apariencia son idénticos, pero con una personalidad totalmente opuesta, él se obsesiona en coincidir con este actor y se involucra de forma cercana en su vida.

It begins with some very interesting and seductive scenes of exotic dancers being watched by a group of men, which seems to be a secret society, the scene ends with a woman about to crush a tarantula and there is the protagonist or one of them.

Then the life of the good character, who is the history teacher, is developed, he is shown in his work and his daily life sharing with his girlfriend, after meeting his double his peace is disturbed. Then comes the life of the other one, who is in a better economic position, works from time to time and has a wife who is pregnant, he has the economic and family stability that the other one does not have.

Once they get to know each other they get scared and decide to forget this fact, but then curiosity overcomes any logical thought and they decide to exchange lives bringing bad consequences.

Inicia con unas escenas bien interesantes y seductoras, de unas bailarinas exóticas que son observadas por un grupo de hombres, que parece ser una sociedad secreta, la escena termina con una mujer a punto de aplastar a una tarántula y allí está el protagonista o uno de ellos.

Después se desarrolla la vida del personaje bueno, que es el profesor de historia, lo muestran en su trabajo y su vida cotidiana compartiendo con su novia, después de encontrar a su doble su paz se perturba. Luego sale la vida del otro, quien está en una mejor posición económica, trabaja de vez en cuando y tiene una esposa que está embarazada, este posee la estabilidad económica y familiar que el otro no tiene.

Una vez que se conocen se asustan y deciden olvidar este hecho, pero después la curiosidad puede más que cualquier pensamiento lógico y deciden intercambiar vidas trayendo malas consecuencias.

The story has a chronology that is easy to understand, it is not a slow movie, it kept me entertained even though the events were predictable and it is good except for the ending which was disappointing, without that ending I would have easily given it a score of 9, but since I was disappointed with the way it ended I give it a score of 7 out of 10.

This film is a bit old, it was released in 2014 and based on the book The Duplicate Man (2002), although I didn't like the ending, it won many awards, it is a Canadian film and Jake Gyllenhaal's performance in both roles is very good.

La historia tiene una cronología fácilmente de entender no es una película lenta me mantuvo entretenida a pesar de que era predecible los acontecimientos y es buena a excepción del final que fue decepcionante, sin ese final le hubiese dado fácilmente una calificación de 9, pero como me decepcionó la forma en cómo culminó le doy una puntuación de 7 sobre 10.

Esta película está un poco vieja, fue estrenada en el año 2014 y basada en el libro el hombre duplicado (2002), aunque su final no me gustó, fue ganadora de muchos premios, es del cine canadiense y la actuación de Jake Gyllenhaal interpretando los dos papeles es muy buena.

There has been a lot of talking about the series of how bad it is, before I go nose first into the episode lets make something clear, the hole aspect of including females as main character is going to cause a revolution among Star Wars fan since most of them are men and I think we don't have to look this up I'm sure this is a fact there for when you poke the internet bear he is going to hit hard and send the rating to the very center of Earth if not below, I have seen way worst TV series and did not get this scores, Wolf Pack (2023) was a Fng bad TV series trying to bring back Buffy and got a 6.5!!! really?? I could not even continue watch it because the plot, acting and cgi was so bad. The Acolyte is not at that level, its just a large fanbase making a big roar and that I can understand, Star Wars fan base is probably one of the larges ever.

The series started very if not extremely slow keeping the suspense for too long, always ending episodes with big cliff hangers been episode 4 the biggest cliff hanger, Episode 5 comes back hard with great fight scenes, a bit censore to my taste like when Qimir cut the both Jedi head the put them behind a three but probably because of the audience that might watch this series.

The episode name Night is contrast to the previous episode called Day, this mostly reffers to Mae and Osha but this time fits perfectly as we finally know who the mysteryous Sith is, the series didn't try that hard to hide it but it's Qimir. Different than previous episodes this one is full of action and I consider is the best one so far, there are still three more episodes to go so I would expect another final battle, besides we still havent seen Vernestra Rwoh using her wip style light saber.

The episode finally reveals who the Sith Master is but that opens the question to who train him? why nobody mention the word Sith and why Qimir said it like he is the only one who knows what the fuck is a Sith, the revelation confirms the theory that I had since episode one, the shape and how tall the Sith was fit perfectly Qimir. During some of the conversation he had with Sol he did mention a few key things like "you dont remember me?" and "back where everything started" refering probably to Osha and Sol the day he rescue her from falling during the fire, at the same time Qimir is all burn around his arms so probably he was with the coven of witches been the only boy he was probably hidden all the time.

Qimir turn out to be a great match for Sol and the other Jedi that were with him but most of them seem like lower tier Jedi, only Sol, Yord and Jecki been the ones that could put up a battle to Qimir. Qimir also mention how all he wants is an Acolyte, an apprentice to practice the Force how he wants it but he knows Jedi wont allow it, real question is what he gets out of Mae quest to kill the four Jedi who had to do with the accident if not revenge for Qimir too, this adds to my theory that Qimir was there the day the Covenant of Witches were killed.

The entire episode was a constant battle between Sith and Jedi, I really love this because it was about time we had a proper battle not those wimpsy fights from the first episodes, but its evident why there are not so many battle scenes, similar to dragon fights when a Jedi or Sith pulls their saber is to use it meaning the possibilities of a character to die are very high, on this episode Qimir almost killed everyone except for Sol, Osha and Mae.

During the conversations while they were battling out many times both sides make it look like they were the good ones, on one side you got the Sith asking to be left alone all he wants is to practice the Force without Jedi interruption painting the Jedi as the bad guys trying to always control everything, I remember even how Qimir once said that the peace Jedi think they find is an illusion, same as how Master Torbin could never find peace and Kelnacca who went into hiding for the same reasons.

The real MVP of this episode was Jecki, RIP, when everything seem lost, most of the Jedi that went into the forest are dead, Yord going back to the ship with Osha trying to keep her safe and Sol having the worst part of the battle with Qimir. Jecki shows up a to arrest Mae, which she did. Mae and Jecki fight skills were very level but it was clear that Jecki had the most training out of the too, look more methodical on her moves, more sleek and kept flowing while Mae was more reactive to her moves. Jecki not only arrest Mae but also recover Kelnacca light saber that she use at a point to put up the best light saber fight of the episode against Qimir, dual light saber, knock Qimir mask that lead to reveal his identity and took the biggest L during the episode getting stab not once but three times in the chest during her fight with Qimir.

Osha and Mae keep revealing her past and their relationship has taken a dramatic change, at first when Mae sees her sister for the first time all she felt was love for her sister, even call her Oshi but its been shown before how possessive and dominant she was between the two. Osha on the other hand has always show her hate for Mae because she is to blame for the fire that kill everyone including their mother sixteen years ago, although this has not been proven to be true, yes it was Mae who did it but in her eyes it looks like she was been controlled.

After the fight is done there is a moment when they talk alone, Mae try to get Osha on her side at certain point I though she had it but its really weird how they go back and forward changing sides specially Mae, at one point she abandon her master Qimir to join Osha but at the ends she cuts he hair after knocking down Osha to go back with Sol and pretend to be her sister, this makes me think that this was part of the plan all this time to infiltrate Sol and kill him.

Osha stays at Khofar, laying on the ground and hurt, Qimir is alive and picks up his things but when he finds Osha he heal her wounds and cover her up, probably he will try to make her join him. The last conversation Osha had with Sol he was about to tell her the "truth" probably of what happen to her mother, Qimir will use this on his advantage to try to convince her Sol lied to her and she was been use all this time.

I like how the story keeps unfolding and for sure we are going to have a lot of flash backs since I would expect two if not three episodes of context and little action, incrementing the suspense. Now that Qimir identity has been reveal the story needs to keep the audience interested and intrigue about the backstory of this whole situation.

I really enjoy this episode, different that others it was full of action, I love the fight between Jecki and Qimir they were both stunning, there was a moment when Sol almost fall into his rage about to kill Qimir but this is plan of his plan or character, either kill every Jedi who was related to the day of the fire or kill the dream, have a Jedi join the dark side like Sol almost did before Osha stop him, not because she wanted to safe Qimir but because as she was once a Jedi Padawn she knows even during the worst moments a Jedi can not fall into rage or vengeance.

So far I give this series a 6.5, in a ladder of Star Wars TV series I would put The Accolyte at the very bottom but still not a bad series to watch and have a good time, never let others tell you if a series is worth watching before you watch it yourself, I get why the Star Wars fans are mad and they have the right to be, Disney has mess with the Lore basically committing sacrilege but thats no reason for a fresh new viewer to consider its a bad series or even a casual viewer to consider its not entertaining.

The movie Kill (2023) is an action movie based on a train trip to New Delhi that all of the sudden turns into an crazy action sequence one after another, it reminds me of the movie Bullet Train (2022) with Brad Pitt where he goes into a mission and then has to fight people while he go over every level on the train, very similar in concept. Director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, focuses on the action and tells the story of two skilled commandos who face great danger while fighting against a group of aggressive bandits, probably not a common thing in India but from what I could find the direction went through such experience, the plot goes around commandos taking the train without knowing that there is already a group of bandits inside that latter on face them, the trailer does look a bit bloody and gore, some hardcore knife fights that end up with a machete to the head so expect some cruel scenes.

The story is based on commando Amrit who just find out that the love of his life, named Tulika is engage against her will and he is pretending to stop this arrangement, she is the one on board the train so he decides to go after her but they both are involve into an attack to the train by a local gang arm with knifes, Amrit is out number but very well trained so he now has to take down every one of them not only to get out alive but to protect Tulika turning the hole train trip into an adrenaline ride.

This is the second time this year that a movie develop in India like environment caught my attention, first was Monkey Man (2024) by Dave Pattel, that movie turn out to be a good watch and I would watch it again, its interesting to me watch movies out side of the typical American style, same goes for TV series, probably its my interest to find out how is life on other countries or continents. Before I go into more details about this movie take in consideration that this article is just a glimpse about the movie, information I was able to find online and just to compare I'm don't think I'm an expert on American Cinema (Hollywood) so imagine how much I know about Bollywood, but the movie did caught my attention due to all the action onboard.

The shooting of the movie Kill (2023) took 77 days, with 66 of them being used for the demanding train scenes, as all the actors in the film had to go through a lot of training that lasted for nine months for them to meet the physical requirements of the film, consider this preparation was necessary because the film is filled with close combat action and the action choreography is done by Se yeong Oh and Parvez Shaikh, who worked together in creating the action scenes in Snowpiercer TV series. From the trailer the action scenes seem very effective and realistic, with each battle scene being shot in such a manner as to create an impression of the narrow corridors of the train cars, which makes the fighting look very intense and close range, take in consideration that for this movie to success the acting will be crucial since movies on close spaces are some times harder to bring to life, the audience focus on a close space with actors no where to go and have to constantly perform at the A game before things turn boring.

Even though this is a movie from last year it was not affected at any point by the 2023 WGA strike but for sure they probably had to work around their schedule. The movie has been categorize as one of the goriest movies ever in India, I doubt this is the case but this is part of what I could find online, for sure not a movie for all ages due to its constant violence through the on going battles at the train.

The main cast is Lakshya, Raghav Juyal and Tanya Maniktala are equally well known and talented artists who have given their best to the Indian film industry and television industry, Lakshya, the actor who has featured as Amrit in the movie is an up and coming actor in the Bollywood and other Indian film industries. He first rose to fame after landing the lead role in the 2017-2018 television drama series Porus, where he played the titular character Porus, a historical Indian king and warrior. His portrayal in Porus enthralled the audience with his fitness and capability to portray strong characters, its for this reason he was perfect for the action based Kill (2023), it's clear that Lakshya has been training seriously for films as he did nine months’ training for the rigorous role of Amrit.

Another actor who can also be considered to be quite popular is Raghav Juyal who portrays Fani, the main villain in the film, he is most popular for his dancing skills and as a participant and the host of the show Dance India Dance, Juyal has also been involved in acting in movies such as ABCD 2 (2015), and Street Dancer 3D (2020). Fani is also quite a different character from those that Bablu has played before, which gives him the opportunity to show if he can go into multiple roles and still make it a hit.

Tanya Maniktala, who take on the character of Tulika, Amrit’s girlfriend, is a good actress well known thanks to the web series A Suitable Boy (2020), in the mention series, she got the main character of Lata Mehra, a woman of Indian origin who is dealing with serious issues regarding love and family life in the early years of India’s independence. Maniktala’s performance was well appreciated as complex, this helped her to gain the recognition as a talented actress in the industry. In this movie she plays Tulika, a character who becomes a victim of violence that suddenly burst on a train, this role gives her a chance to act in a different type of movie and demonstrate her skills, probably having to put up a bit more of her acting skills demonstrating fear and worry for her lover whe he has to face the bandits on the train.

Besides been a pure action movie we can say that there is he Romeo and Juliet aspect in modern times, the classic situation where the main female character is engage against her will but her lover will do anything he has to, to get her back, there are other clear aspects involve such as violence and injustice mainly because of the soio political reality of many countries, in this particular case India as how a group of bandits think they can just take over a train and do with the passengers as they please taking from them. I sure this is something that happen in many other countries, I can recall this happening to me not on a train but it was common for buses to be "hijack" and it once happen to me when I was young, two guys jump with guns to take everything they could from passengers, the amount of crime due to the socio economic problems come into context in this movie same as it happens in many parts of the world giving certain depth and touch part of the audience that have gone through similar situation.

Going a bit farther than just the action scenes I would think that the entire scenario will make part of the audience how far someone has to be in life, the amount of problems or probably what its going through their minds when they expose themself in such narrow corridor to been face to fight for their lifes just as it happen during the movie.

Lets be honest, Kill (2023) does not bring anything new to the table, the love story we have seen many times before, and I find it very risky from the production side to be a success in such close space, other than all the stunts, actors will have to put up a lot of work to keep the audience entertain and interested throughout the entire movie, I also find the name too simple or at least its translation.

On the positive side there have been movies where the action scenes are so good that the plot and structure become secondary, the audience stays so entertain with every and each action scene, specially on this movie where it looks so bloody and ruthless, I just hope that they did not give everything up on the trailer. I think this is going to be the case were there will be evident problems of elements like plot and action but with all the preparation they had and considering the choreographed actions scenes might look like the ones on Snowpierce, but more blood more gore, that is gong to be the strong arm of this movie making it a good one time watch movie, not every movie has a to be a Blockbuster to be consider a good movie, for this reason I predict this could be something between a 6-7 out of 10.

Es ahí donde entra Calvin, un hombre extraño que se encarga de asignar los amigos imaginarios a los niños, y Bea, una niña de 12 años que puede verlos a todos y se pone al hombro la misión de ayudarlos mientras intenta procesar el hecho de que su padre está internado en un hospital. 

A group of imaginary friends are looking for new children to see them because the ones who created them have grown up and stopped noticing them. That's where Calvin, a strange man who is in charge of assigning the imaginary friends to the children, and Bea, a 12-year-old girl who can see them all and takes on the mission of helping them as she tries to process the fact that her father is in the hospital.

Cuando me dispuse a ver esta película me imaginaba que me iba a encontrar con algo un tanto absurdo y sin sentido, pero divertido. Y la verdad es que terminó siendo una historia mucho más profunda de lo que esperaba.

When I set out to see this movie I imagined that I was going to find something a bit absurd and nonsensical, but fun. And the truth is that it ended up being a much deeper story than I expected.

Desde el comienzo, nos muestran la infancia feliz que tuvo Bea, como era amada por sus padres y teniendo una imaginación muy creativa. Hasta la actualidad, donde podemos ver a la niña unos años más grande con un aura más solitaria y triste a su alrededor, lo que nos hace reflexionar de lo qué podría haber sucedido y de que a medida que crecemos vamos perdiendo esa inocencia infantil, alegre y risueña.

From the beginning, we are shown the happy childhood Bea had, how she was loved by her parents and having a very creative imagination. Until the present day, where we can see the girl a few years older with a more lonely and sad aura around her, which makes us reflect on what could have happened and that as we grow up we lose that childlike innocence, joyful and laughing.

La aparición de los amigos imaginarios le trajo un nuevo propósito para reiniciar su creatividad y volver a sus raíces que la hacían feliz. Cuando crecemos a veces dejamos de hacer ciertas cosas que nos gustaban porque creemos que ya no van con nuestra edad, pero no es así, si hay pasión o es algo que nos hace bien hay que seguir haciéndolo. Nunca hay que dejar de jugar y divertirse como un niño.

The appearance of imaginary friends brought her a new purpose to restart her creativity and return to her roots that made her happy. When we grow up sometimes we stop doing certain things that we liked because we think they no longer go with our age, but it is not so, if there is passion or it is something that makes us well we must continue doing it. Never stop playing and having fun as a child.

Lo que más me gustó de esta película es que sentí que tenía un mensaje para nosotros los adultos porque los que crearon a esos seres imaginarios fueron niños particulares, que los hicieron a imagen y semejanza de todo aquello que les gustaba o los identificaba, ¿cómo iban a emparejarlos con otros niños que tendrían otros gustos, intereses y necesidades? Tarea imposible. Cuando se dieron cuenta de esto probaron otra estrategia, la de buscar a sus antiguos niños ya crecidos y tratar de volver a generar un vínculo con ellos y eso fue hermoso.

What I liked most about this movie is that I felt it had a message for us adults because those who created those imaginary beings were particular children, who made them in the image and likeness of everything they liked or identified with, how could they match them with other children who would have other tastes, interests and needs? Impossible task. When they realized this, they tried another strategy, that of looking for their old children who were already grown up and trying to generate a link with them again, and that was beautiful.

Uno como adulto no necesita amigos imaginarios, pero es lindo saber que hay alguien que siempre esté a tu lado cuidándote y acompañándote en momentos claves de tu vida. Quizá no como los imaginábamos de niños, pero sí recordando esos momentos que nos hacían felices y volviendo a conectar con nuestro niño interior. No se ustedes, pero yo no recuerdo haber tenido un amigo imaginario. Aunque viendo la película, espero que haya sido el caso y no que me haya olvidado de él. 

As an adult you don't need imaginary friends, but it is nice to know that there is someone who is always by your side taking care of you and accompanying you in key moments of your life. Maybe not as we imagined them as children, but remembering those moments that made us happy and reconnecting with our inner child. I don't know about you, but I don't remember having an imaginary friend. Although watching the movie, I hope that was the case and not that I forgot about him.

Es una película bastante divertida, sobre todo por Blue, ese amigo imaginario si que les va a sacar sonrisas. Fue bastante ingeniosa también. Además cuenta con actuaciones muy buenas, Cailey Fleming que hace de Bea es la que hacía de Judith, la hija de Rick en la serie TWD, están John Krasinski, Ryan Reynolds y muchos más. Steve Carell le puso la voz a Blue, aunque yo vi la película con audio latino.

It's a pretty funny movie, especially because of Blue, that imaginary friend if that's going to bring a smile to your face. It was pretty witty too. It also has very good performances, Cailey Fleming who plays Bea is the one who played Judith, Rick's daughter in the TWD series, John Krasinski, Ryan Reynolds and many more. Steve Carell voiced Blue, although I saw the movie with Latin audio.

Hay escenas que me sorprendieron para bien por el nivel de producción que tuvieron, como la de la abuela de Bea bailando, detalles sencillos pero mágicos y agradables a la vista. Me resultó muy conmovedora también, todas mis lágrimas se fueron con esta película. Realmente me sorprendió muchísimo. 

There are scenes that surprised me for good because of the level of production they had, like Bea's grandmother dancing, simple details but magical and pleasing to the eye. I found it very touching too, all my tears went away with this movie. It really surprised me a lot.

In yet another Netflix production, the courageous and fearless Parker (protagonist played by Jessica Alba) asks “Why do politicians lie so much?”, and this is a question that Netflix itself should ask itself when releasing its trailers, because this movie is another example of what an interesting trailer can awaken in viewers: a possible interesting action project, which in fact reveals itself as just another pastime uncommitted to its own conflicts when trying to build an overly disconnected narrative within a weak and generic script.

The scenario for action movies starring women continues to be very precarious. Whether due to the script or low budgets (although this second aspect has been evolving over the last few years), the fact is that women are still often underestimated when it comes to creating a leadership role within this type of movie (which is still mostly male). This movie is yet another example of this, because even in the most interesting moments, the result is not viable in the general context. What exists here is just the intention to do something good.

Within a simple narrative, the script invests in a dynamic that can be considered interesting because it involves a relationship between family, politics and power with a perspective not so often seen in action movies. However, the development of these dramatic arcs is very laughable, so everything ends up being poorly developed (to the point of becoming quite implausible at times... which obviously weakens the plot even further). The seriousness of the plot is constantly broken by poor narrative decisions, one flaw after another.

Plugged In

Soon after facing a complicated mission in the desert, Parker is informed that her father died as a result of an explosion in the mine where he works. When she returns to her hometown, she ends up discovering that there is actually a huge conspiracy going on and she needs to rely on her friends (in town and outside) to deal with everything that is happening. Amid the simple plot, there are some good moments involving complex dramas, but as I said before, it's all quite “forgettable”, despite there being potential in this type of more different approach.

Jessica Alba leads a weak cast, where her name is the only one worth mentioning. No, she doesn't deliver any incredible performance in dramatic terms (although she tried hard in some certain scenes), but physically speaking, she delivers her best work so far and maintains a decent level for everything presented in the action scenes (which, by the way, can be relatively creative at times). There is no doubt that the “strongest” point of the movie is Alba’s physical clashes with the villains, but it is still somewhat moderate.

Betting on a parade of disposable characters (who despite their convincing motivations, cannot necessarily be useful in the plot... and here I am referring to the villains, because the entire cast made up of the most secondary supporting characters is really bad), the plot fails gear up the way it should. The drama tries to impose itself as a motivation for justice (or is it revenge?) and all the elements end up being mixed without any more functional balance. Everything ends up being thrown at the screen with the intention of exploding nitroglycerin, but it stays away from that.

Three people were credited as screenwriters, and I confess that I was “impressed” to see that it was necessary to have a trio working behind this script. Director Mouly Surya is in control of the project, and shows that she is really far from being able to direct a movie with a minimum level of skill. What she does here reminds me of what is done with episodes of low-budget television series. Everything is too simplistic for a plot that starts out being something more powerful. In other words, it is as if the movie became “smaller” with each new scene developed.

Technically speaking, Trigger Warning seems to be bold and manages to show some attractive photography at times (as well as its soundtrack, which seeks to flirt with the “Latin” side of the project), but it has editing work full of flaws. Add this to the fact that the project is unable to explore its own dilemmas throughout the screening (it is incredible to see how the movie's full potential sinks as if in quicksand) and you will have a disappointing result (in fact, the conclusion of the third act here is bad). The warning here is really about risk.

CRÍTICA DE PELÍCULA: “Detonantes” (2024)

Sinopsis: Cuando una hábil comandante de las Fuerzas Especiales de Estados Unidos se ve obligada a regresar a su ciudad natal tras la inesperada muerte de su padre, descubre una terrible conspiración y no sólo debe investigar qué hay detrás, sino también lidiar con las consecuencias morales de lo que se esconde.

En una producción más de Netflix, la valiente e intrépida Parker (protagonista interpretada por Jessica Alba) se pregunta “¿Por qué los políticos tontean tanto?”, y esta es una pregunta que la propia Netflix debería hacerse al lanzar sus trailers, porque esta película es Otro ejemplo de lo que un tráiler interesante puede despertar en los espectadores: un posible proyecto de acción interesante, que en realidad se revela como un pasatiempo más ajeno a sus propios conflictos al intentar construir una narrativa demasiado desconectada dentro de un guión débil y genérico.

El escenario de las películas de acción protagonizadas por mujeres sigue siendo muy precario. Ya sea por el guion o por los bajos presupuestos (aunque este segundo aspecto ha ido evolucionando en los últimos años), lo cierto es que todavía muchas veces se subestima a las mujeres a la hora de crear un papel de liderazgo dentro de este tipo de películas (que todavía son mayoritariamente masculino). Esta película es un ejemplo más de ello, porque incluso en los momentos más interesantes, el resultado no es viable en el contexto general. Lo que existe aquí es sólo la intención de hacer algo bueno.

Dentro de una narrativa simple, el guión invierte en una dinámica que puede considerarse interesante porque involucra una relación entre familia, política y poder con una perspectiva no tan frecuente en las películas de acción. Sin embargo, el desarrollo de estos arcos dramáticos es muy irrisorio, por lo que todo acaba estando mal desarrollado (hasta el punto de volverse bastante inverosímil en ocasiones... lo que evidentemente debilita aún más la trama). La seriedad de la trama se ve constantemente rota por malas decisiones narrativas, un fallo tras otro.

Al poco de afrontar una complicada misión en el desierto, Parker es informada de que su padre murió a consecuencia de una explosión en la mina donde trabaja. Cuando regresa a su ciudad natal, termina descubriendo que en realidad hay una gran conspiración y necesita confiar en sus amigos (dentro y fuera de la ciudad) para lidiar con todo lo que está sucediendo. En medio de la trama simple, hay algunos buenos momentos que involucran dramas complejos, pero como dije antes, todo es bastante “olvidable”, a pesar de que hay potencial en este tipo de enfoque más diferente.

Jessica Alba encabeza un elenco débil, donde su nombre es el único que vale la pena mencionar. No, no ofrece ninguna actuación increíble en términos dramáticos (aunque se esforzó mucho en algunas escenas determinadas), pero físicamente hablando, ofrece su mejor trabajo hasta el momento y mantiene un nivel decente para todo lo presentado en las escenas de acción (que, por cierto, puede ser relativamente creativo a veces). No cabe duda de que el punto “más fuerte” de la película son los enfrentamientos físicos de Alba con los villanos, pero no deja de ser algo moderado.

Apostando por un desfile de personajes desechables (que a pesar de sus convincentes motivaciones, no necesariamente pueden ser útiles en la trama... y aquí me refiero a los villanos, porque todo el reparto formado por los personajes secundarios más secundarios es realmente malo), la trama no se desarrolla como debería. El drama intenta imponerse como motivación de justicia (¿o es venganza?) y todos los elementos acaban mezclándose sin mayor equilibrio funcional. Todo acaba siendo arrojado a la pantalla con la intención de hacer explotar la nitroglicerina, pero se mantiene alejado de eso.

Tres personas fueron acreditadas como guionistas, y confieso que me “impresionó” ver que era necesario tener un trío trabajando detrás de este guión. La directora Mouly Surya tiene el control del proyecto y demuestra que está muy lejos de poder dirigir una película con un mínimo de habilidad. Lo que hace aquí me recuerda a lo que se hace con los episodios de series de televisión de bajo presupuesto. Todo es demasiado simplista para una trama que empieza siendo algo más potente. En otras palabras, es como si la película se hiciera “más pequeña” con cada nueva escena desarrollada.

Técnicamente, Detonantes parece atrevida y logra mostrar por momentos una fotografía atractiva (así como su banda sonora, que busca coquetear con el lado “latino” del proyecto), pero tiene un trabajo de edición lleno de fallos. Si a esto le sumamos que el proyecto es incapaz de explorar sus propios dilemas a lo largo de la proyección (es increíble ver cómo todo el potencial de la película se hunde como en arenas movedizas) el resultado será decepcionante (de hecho, la conclusión de la película El tercer acto aquí es malo). La advertencia aquí es realmente sobre el riesgo.

Em mais uma produção da Netflix, a corajosa e destemida Parker (protagonista interpretada por Jessica Alba) pergunta “Por que os políticos metem tanto?”, e esta é uma pergunta que a própria Netflix deveria se fazer ao lançar seus trailers, porque este filme é mais um exemplo do que um trailer interessante pode despertar nos telespectadores: um possível projeto de ação interessante, que na verdade se revela como apenas mais um passatempo descompromissado com os próprios conflitos ao tentar construir dentro de um roteiro fraco e genérico uma narrativa demasiadamente desconexa.

O cenário para os filmes de ação que são protagonizados por mulheres continua sendo algo muito precário. Seja pelo roteiro ou pelos baixos orçamentos (apesar deste segundo aspecto estar evoluindo ao longo dos últimos anos), o fato é que o sexo feminino ainda é frequentemente subestimado quando o assunto é criar uma liderança dentro deste tipo de filme (que ainda é majoritariamente masculino). Não há dúvidas de que o ponto “forte” do filme são os embates físicos de Alba com os vilões, mas ainda sim, é algo moderado.

O alerta aqui é mesmo de risco.
