Meanwhile, Aldis Hodge has a strong presence on screen, from the TNT series Leverage (2008) to great roles in Straight Outta Compton (2015), Hidden Figures (2016) and Black Adam (2022), positioning him as a dynamic force in the film.
Key Insights into Filming
The filming was in Minnesota in July 2022, and those living in that area will recognize all the locations. The production proceeded smoothly, with no reported delays or major controversies so far. After the release of the movie we will know more details if any situation appeared through the filming of the movie but at the moment everything seems that it was a great moment for all the production, cast and director.
Conclusion: Modern Bonnie and Clyde Not to Be Missed
The critic hasn’t revealed too much about “Marmalade” but has mention that is a movie that has a really plot twists that the audience will enjoy. The romantic heist drama promises to explore themes of love, sacrifice, and resilience. While the specific message has not yet been revealed, the plot suggests an exciting journey that will unfold on the big screen, and many will want that mask as their Halloween costume. This movie probably will become the new Bonnie and Clyde version for the Generation Z.
From what has been shown in the trailer, Marmalade is a must watch for people that enjoy heist dramas and romantic tales, where they will witness a prison break, bank robbery, a story of love and pain, also a story of trust and resilience. Keir O’Donnell’s directorial debut, along with the dynamic performances of Keery with his Southern accent, Morrone, both in roles different from what we have seen before, and the addition of Hodge’s performance, have the audience intrigued by this production. As the premiere approaches, I’ll be keeping an eye out for any updates on the popularity this film may garner.
Synopsis:Keith Gill is a young man who believes a lot in financial investments, and that's why he decides to bet all his money on a dangerous move: buying shares in a company that doesn't seem to have much profitability within the market, but that will surprise everyone.
Bringing issues related to the financial market through cinematographic representations is always a relatively complicated task because it is necessary to create very didactic approaches and languages so that the public can connect (or at least create a minimum of empathy not only for the story being told, but also because of what happens to its characters), and then dive into the movie. This is precisely the case with this project, which is based on the epic battle that took place between small investors in GameStop vs. Melvin Capital.
One of the things that happens most in the financial market is the lack of credibility regarding some types of investments, but at times, unlikely situations end up happening, and this is the case of GameStop, which before becoming a bombastic name within the universe of investors, was basically a retail company specializing in the sale of video games. However, after a true cyber revolution focused on fluctuations in values related to the purchase of devalued shares, Wall Street suffered a major blow.
Based in Dallas (United States) and founded in 1984, after achieving an astronomical appreciation after a group of small investors began to buy its shares, GameStop created a real polarization among many types of investors. Through a well-designed movement by small investors on a forum called WallStreetBets (located on Reddit), some of the big bosses on Wall Street felt their pockets weighing down with high losses. When the poor are making money and the rich are losing, it is always quite a satisfying thing to see.
The script presents this entire plot in a very fun way, always creating elements that encourage situations very similar to a reality experienced by millions of investors who are spread around the world (ordinary people, with ordinary jobs and who are looking for a better life), and by choosing to weave this type of narrative, the writers created a very interesting scenario to follow (where you literally root for the victory of the good guys and the defeat of the villains), also betting on the insertion of memes that became a rage years ago.
The losses of the companies that fought valiantly to sabotage GameStop amounted to billions. Worldwide, investment funds were destroyed, and they had to close their doors, showing that those at the top do not always emerge victorious. The way this script articulates this entire plot is almost always full of references to our reality, and even if there are fictional elements in its development, there is a prevalence of truth and the urgency of the facts presented (which ends up resulting in scenes where it is possible feel tension in situations).
Using just a single character as the guiding thread of the entire plot, the movie connects all the supporting characters in a technological network that ends up converging with the protagonist's world (who is the true leader of everything). Paul Dano is very good as a young investor determined to “break” a part of the financial market and give more autonomy and real chances of profits to the poorest investors. A very fun performance. As for the supporting cast, the screen time is very fragmented and the performances are very average.
Although the script does not delve as much into the development of the story in a more technical sense (a decision that I personally found very assertive in making the project something more niche than it actually is... after all, it is a movie based on a story more familiar to those who follow the financial market), it is very good to see that director Craig Gillespie did not deprive himself of trying to maintain the essence of the plot amidst the authenticity of his vision regarding the central point of events. The elements are there, but without complex language methodologies.
Dumb Money is the type of movie that manages to transform a possibly “boring” plot into something full of cunning, its own identity and with very assertive comic touches. Technically it is a weak project (and it even has some edits of scenes with very questionable qualities), but it still manages to overcome this “flaw” by investing in a very intelligent level of structural narrative, which ends up functioning as its main attraction, showing that it is not necessary to invest billions of dollars to create projects with very consistent quality.

CRÍTICA DE PELÍCULA: “Golpe a Wall Street” (2023)
Buenos días, buenas tardes o buenas noches, damas y caballeros.
Good morning, good afternoon or good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Today we continue with the same theme of reviews that I have been bringing to this community, yes, movies about serial killers and police officers pursuing them to hunt them down (this must have a specific name that I will look for later). I guess ever since I saw Se7en, I developed a certain liking for the police genre, but honestly, who doesn't like a good mystery, especially if it is well-formulated and keeps you trapped, which I think is the most important thing, if you can't keep the viewer glued to the screen due to the events that are happening, what's the point, can you really consider yourself a good psychological drama with cops if you can't achieve that? It's an excellent question if you think about it, with a pretty obvious answer. The movie I'm going to talk about next is called The Bone Collector and it is considered one of the great police films along with the aforementioned Se7en, although honestly I had no idea about that, I don't know much about movies to be honest but well, without further ado, let's start with the review.
The film puts us in the shoes of Lincoln Rhyme, a nearly legendary policeman praised by his colleagues for his excellent work, recognized for being an expert in analyzing crime scenes in murders; it's a shame that due to an accident, he ends up in an almost vegetative state, where he can only move his mouth, his shoulders, and his finger. Rhyme doesn't have much desire to live and already has a planned day for his "transition," something that will be prevented if a case of his interest ends up in his hands. On the other hand, we have the young police officer Amelia Donaghy, who is dedicated to dealing with police issues related to minors, such as drugs, until one day while on patrol she receives a call from a young man, finding herself in the process with a corpse, in what seems to be a staged crime scene; Amelia will stand out at that moment for her immaculate work in examining the scene, following Lincoln's advice from the books, work that is recognized by him in person when they both set out to catch the killer (after technically convincing Amelia to become a detective due to her potential), who has the main characteristic of extracting a bone from his victim. Due to Lincoln's condition, Amelia will be his eyes and guide to complete the job.
What is most impressive is the character development of the two protagonists, who go from hating each other to complementing each other, maybe a little too much, I don't know if you understand me. Amelia simply can't stand Lincoln and even considers him somewhat of an egotist who only talks and talks. She thinks he is someone who feels powerful because of his status, someone who likes to point his finger at others and tell them what they should and shouldn't do. Rhyme, in a way, changes his way of seeing life, he stops thinking about euthanasia as he gets to know Amelia more and more, also influencing her to seem to enjoy seeing her progress on her path as a detective. Despite all this, I feel that the romantic relationship between the two is a bit forced, it happens unexpectedly, maybe that's the idea but for me, it's the small detail against the plot that I find. Referring to the serial killer, he feels like a real threat, you never know what he will do next, and the riddles that Lincoln and Amelia deal with are quite interesting and put them to the test. I like the conclusion where Amelia manages to use her own skills to finally catch the killer, it's a good ending that demonstrates how she goes from not being able to see a corpse to being perceptive.
The approach could be considered something simple but carried out to perfection due to the actors on screen (honestly, several of them seem familiar to me but I'm really bad with names), highlighting Angelina Jolie's work, who plays the role of Amelia, I have to admit that I practically fell in love with that woman with those shots of her face, where her eyes stood out, although well, that's another topic but I just wanted to say it. I must applaud the pace at which the movie is handled, even though it lasts two hours, it feels quite light, very easy to watch, it doesn't become tedious at all. I think it is an easy recommendation for anyone who wants to watch a crime drama movie, simple to watch and at the same time entertaining with good actors.
Day One resets the timeline of the intense horror saga "A Quiet Place", its more a psychological horror story as we humans are use to talk on a daily bases, keeping our mouth close for most people is impossible even when you are alone might start singing and I think its a natural reflect based on ours life so staying quiet with the sole purpose of surviving its another entire stage or horror, imagine you can stay and live surrounded with this alien monsters but the second you make the most insignificant sound you are dead. On Day One we might get some answers as how the entire world became Quiet, probably not WHY alien came to Earth but will show us the process everything went down. From the trailer there are already some images of ships dropping down form the sky and aliens starting to snap people on New York City, probably one of the loudest cities in the world.
Director Michael Sarnoski: Horrors and Emotion Master
Michael Sarnoski is a director who knows how to both scare and move audiences, known for his work on the film “Pig,” starring Nicolas Cage, a masterpiece of psychological horror that also explores themes such as grief and loss. He’s now in charge of “A Quiet Place: Day One,” the third installment in the post-apocalyptic horror saga. John Krasinski directed the first two movies of the A Quiet Place series, and initially, Jeff Nichols was supposed to take over, but apparently, there were some creative differences, leading Sarnoski to assume the project. With his talent for crafting complex stories and his ability to build tension, Sarnoski is a perfect choice to direct “A Quiet Place: Day One.” Audiences can expect a film that will both terrify and deeply move them. However, I read an interview with Alex Wolff where he mentioned that it’s not precisely a horror movie; it’s more drama-oriented. It might not focus as much on the chaos of the creatures, although we’ll still see monster mayhem.
The cast for this movie I have to say its an impressive lineup of talent, starting with Joseph Quinn, recognize for his role of Eddie Munson in the fourth season of Stranger Things and his appearances in Game of Thrones, Les Misérables (2018), and Overlord (2018). Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar winning actress well known for her powerful performance in the movie 12 Years a Slave and her captivating roles in Non Stop (2014), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), and Black Panther (2018), joins the team Alex Wolff, known for his multiple talents in acting, music, and film making, having starred in Patriots Day (2016), the terror Hereditary (2018), Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), and The Cat and the Moon (2019). Djimon Hounsou, a two time Academy Award nominee recognized for his powerful roles in Blood Diamond and Gladiator, brings his formidable presence to the cast, having also impressed audiences in In America, Gladiator (2000), and Amistad (1997). Additionally, Denis O’Hare, renowned for his multiple roles of complex characters, brings his expertise to the movie, having spent 12 years as a stage actor in Chicago before transitioning to New York.
Behind the Scenes: Filming Challenges and Genre Shifts
As most movies premiering this year 2024 the Day One also experience delays due to the global pandemic which pushed back its release from September 2023 to June 2024 right after that dealing with the Hollywood writers and actors strikes but it is a big project that could not back down.
Along this time of production out of no where when everyone was expecting this movie to be on the same category of horror, Alex Wolff made a statement regarding a certain shift for the theme of this movie, this third part of the saga leans more towards drama and not the classic horror and suspense that we have seen on its prequel, this unexpected change has spark the fans curiosity and increase the excitement for how the franchise will evolve, it's kinda hard imagine a prequel shifting gears this way or even completely eliminating the horror element from the story, that's why other two movies there interesting.
The title of this prequel indicates that the story will focus more into how everything started, how the invasion drop on Earth from one second to another. John Krasinski, director and writer of the first two movies, hinted that Lupita Nyong’o’s character will go through the chaos in the world’s noisiest city, New York, something that doesn't go well with this entire story, kinda reminds me the scene from the Last of Us where they explain how Clickers create this root system across miles to communicate with each other, point is you had to be deadly silence to be able to go through this places now imagine been in New York and not making any noise to avoid aliens, I think one idea don't go well with the other.
The slogan "Live the day our world fell silent" suggests that this third movie will add more context into the previous two explaining how everything begin, if that is the case must be a great experience to watch the first two now, before watching Day One. I went through something similar before starting to watch the TV series MONARCH as I watch previous movies related to it, if only most franchise operate like this. I believe the movie promises to offer a unique view of the franchise, focusing on the most human aspects of the story so its possible they do move out from the Alien focus into the drama of those who were trying to survive the day everything started. The combination of a talented director with an intriguing story makes A Quiet Place: Day One one of the most anticipated horror movies of 2024, well not horror now.
Anticipation and Conclusions
Funny the moment I started doing this post a few weeks ago after I notice the teaser, official trailer just drop today, most of the trailers that were circulating were fan made. Until today the premier for this third act of A Quiet Place is set for June 28, 2024 and from what I have red online. The addition of new cast members, a genre shift, and the promise of a new perspective on the silent apocalypse have generated much anticipation.
Big part of the attractive of this movie was the silence and mimics, people trying to communicate staying completely silent, I wonder how much this would affect the perception from viewers and critics since this aspects that were previously the apex of the movie wont be there anymore or very little compare to its prequels, although this could setup a new exciting platform for other movies keep in mind that now days creating an entire universe is the new trend.

"Coming of Age" is the genre of cinema that I like to see the most; the stories of characters going through a stage of life where the need to connect, fit in, be part of something, becomes a priority to form a personality in the future; I think there are very well written stories that although mostly use other genres such as comedy or drama, I have always thought that it works with other genres and no matter how much fantasy or exaggeration that may have some of these stories, there is always that touch of reality which makes the public can feel identified.
"Orion and the Dark" es la más reciente producción animada de DreamWorks Animation y Netflix; este film relata la historia de "Orion", un chico de 11 años de edad, el cual está comenzando en transitar una etapa de su vida que lo podrá definir en su futuro; eso hace que el joven Orion sienta ansiedad y peor aún, sienta miedo por toda experiencia que pueda tener; justamente uno de sus grandes miedos es a la oscuridad lo cual es extraño porque no pierde la oportunidad de hacérselo saber y en una noche cuando la oscuridad es total, este chico tendrá la visita de su más grande némesis, pero para su sorpresa, encontrará de lo que más teme podrá ser el punto de partida de encontrar la valentía para enfrentar el futuro.
"Orion and the Dark" is the most recent animated production of DreamWorks Animation and Netflix; this film tells the story of "Orion", an 11 year old boy, who is beginning to go through a stage of his life that could define his future; that makes young Orion feel anxiety and even worse, feel fear for any experience he may have; precisely one of his greatest fears is the darkness which is strange because he does not miss the opportunity to let him know it and in a night when the darkness is total, this boy will have the visit of his greatest nemesis, but to his surprise, he will find what he fears the most could be the starting point to find the courage to face the future.
This film is based on the children's book of the same name, written by Emma Yarlett; its story, like other animated productions, focuses on certain difficulties that the main character suffers at the time of beginning his journey through adolescence; a theme very present in this type of films, but that in this opportunity presents the particularity of having a good story of how fears may or may not be very influential in the people we will be in the future; precisely that is a theme that has caught my attention in this film because it not only focuses on how fears affect someone at a stage of his life, but how they can continue to be present in the future.
The script was written by Charlie Kaufman; it just shows that you can learn to deal with fear, I'm not talking about overcoming it definitively because the film shows that this is impossible, but that you should still show courage in living the different situations that we must experience; that message is wonderful and what has surprised me in this film that seems to have a transit already seen in other films within the Coming of Age genre, but has a particularity in the story that gives it some originality; these aspects make this film much more entertaining where the animation, comedy, adventure and fantasy, does not detract from having its portion of reality.
The design of the characters and the world where the story takes place is very nice, it is quite dynamic and despite being an animated film, I must say that it is quite cartoonish and that is due to the imagination of "Orion", which at first made me compare him to "Charlie Brown", but of course with an immense fear of everything and of course lonely; this characteristic of the character seems that to some people who have seen the film, it seems annoying, I'm not going to lie that yes, it is true, it is annoying, but it is also necessary for the story, in fact the behavior of the character in the beginning is important for his evolution and for his relationship with "The Darkness", which is a fascinating character, an entity that has been described as an image of evil, but according to him, it is a necessary element for life; The Darkness explores prejudice, loneliness, depression, he is a character who must deal with a wrong opinion towards him and who must find someone who can understand his relevance in life; he is one of the characters written and designed in an enjoyable way for both adults and children.
It's been a while since I've seen a movie that exceeded my expectations; Orion and the Dark is magnificent and I don't understand the reason for its lack of promotion, its premiere was a few days ago and I've read little on social networks about this story, it's true that it uses elements seen before, but the treatment of fear and how succumbing to that feeling can affect our future and who surrounds us, is something I've rarely seen; in that it has shown originality and also the simple and direct way of teaching a relevant message about how to deal with certain problems at an early age in our growing up; I highly recommend watching this movie, the animation is magnificent in how simple it is, its characters are very well written, its development is excellent and is part of the surprise of the film and of course its story, it is a Coming of Age, full of fantasy, adventure and as I said at the beginning of the review, with a good portion of reality.
¡Hola amigos!
Hello friends! Today I bring you my opinion of a 5 episode live action miniseries based on a manga and anime I used to watch when I was little. The series premiered in December, but I hadn't been able to watch it until now and let me tell you that it is the most perfect live action I've ever seen in my life. I'm talking about Yu Yu Hakusho.
The series is about a troubled teenager named Yusuke Urameshi who one day defies the rules of fate by saving a boy from a tragedy and ends up dying on the spot. He is immediately taken by Botan, a kind of grim reaper, to the spirit world to talk to Koenma, who is the caretaker of the place and decides based on the actions they had in life whether the souls of the deceased go to heaven or hell. Seeing Yusuke and considering that the event that killed him was caused by a Yokai, a demon, he decides to turn him into a spiritual agent and send him back alive to the human world so that he can fight against the Yokai who insist on crossing from their demonic world to the human world to make disasters. It is there where the adventure of this young fighter begins, who will seek to become stronger every day to end the evil demons who want to harm his loved ones, but on his way he will learn that not all yokais are bad, just as not all humans are good.
What a great series, I am pleasantly surprised with the wonder that I found, it is incredible that they achieved such a brilliant adaptation in so few chapters, but it is demonstrated that it can be done. Considering that it is an anime that I last saw 20 years ago, watching this live action reminded me of many things and I can say that everything was very well resolved. I don't have it so fresh, I'm sure there were some different subplots and events, but what I remember was included.
I also want to highlight the good casting they achieved, they are equal to the animated characters not only physically, but in character and personality, it was the essence of the characters I remembered. The costumes are also impressive, the characteristics of the yokais, everything is very similar to what I remember. The truth is that it was amazing. I was very excited to see this series.
Besides all this, it is very addictive to watch and I felt that I finished it very quickly even though it only has 5 chapters, they flew by. It grabbed me from the very first moment. Hats off to such a job of adaptation and the series itself is also entertaining or at least it seems so to me, it has a lot of action and being short there is almost no filler. So if you want something short and entertaining to watch this series is ideal.
I was researching and maybe there is a second season. I don't remember so much anymore, but I was sure the anime or manga is much longer, so maybe. I for one am going to cross my fingers that it is because I would love to keep seeing more of these amazing characters and their story.
Well friends, this is all I wanted to tell you about this series. I hope you liked it and I encourage you to watch it. If you already did, I would love to know your opinion and if you think it was faithful to the original version.
Thanks for making it this far and for reading.
See you next time!

It's been over a year since the release of Elvis, directed by Baz Lurhman, with Austin Butler resurrecting the image of the so-called King of Rock. A film in which Tom Hanks played Colonel Parker, whose accent brought him a lot of criticism. I loved that movie. Those who read my post about Elvis know that it was one of my favorites.
I remember pointing out in my post that when Elvis met Priscilla, she was underage and the Elvis movie didn't scrutinize that. When they met, the age difference was wide. A teenager of about fourteen. To me that's a child. I think a good biopic should address all facets of the character, his light side and also his dark side.
Sofia Coppola is in charge of bringing us the biopic about the woman behind the myth. Priscilla Presley. Focusing on the woman who conquered the heart of the most desired man of the time. The man who made many women have wild dreams. To do so, it takes the memoirs written by Priscilla herself to write the script and also to be in the director's chair.
A mí me encantó esa película.
The filmmaker has disenchanted me over time. I liked The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation. Other of his films I liked, without being fascinated by them, I still trusted Coppola. But with On the Rocks I'm feeling little patience with his projects. Maybe his style no longer appeals to me. His progre tendency has me jaded. I don't know. When I finished watching Priscilla I asked myself how could I put up with this?
I'm not going to throw stones against the filmmaker, she already has enough haters. I have written post where I value her performance in The Godfather 3. Movie where she was butchered with her performance as Michael Corleone's daughter. Although I remember the news of that time without internet, where they said that she was only given the character because she was the daughter of the director.
Sometimes I have to agree with those who criticize the work of this filmmaker. She has earned it. With Priscilla, she has played the progressive savior and that is counterproductive. In several interviews she has made an analogy between Priscilla's life, always under the shadow of Elvis, with her own life, saying that she was under the shadow of her father. There is a big difference. She didn't have a choice to be her father's daughter. Priscilla did have a choice who to fall in love with. You have to tell it like it is.
Another point where Sofia Coppola is wrong is in saying that she has achieved everything on her own. Her biggest successes and most successful films were when she was married to Spike Jonze. Someone who is also vital to her professional growth. Already the name Coppola gave her a certain influence. If she didn't want to be under the shadow of her surname, she could have done like her cousin Nicolas Cage and taken another one, couldn't she?
Me gustaron The Virgin Suicides y Lost in Translation. No sé.
Priscilla is another bipic that disappointed me. It shows a toxic side of Elvis. Which of course he had. Someone with those addictions, had to have behaviors that affected the marital relationship. But beyond showing some scenes where the King loses control, and the apparent suffering of Priscilla, before the alleged abuse, addictions, jealousy and loneliness to which she is subjected for being the partner of an icon. Everything is so superficial that it is hard to believe what we see on screen.
Just as the movie Elvis showed us one side of the coin and swept some dirty laundry under the rug. This one does the same, but from the point of view of the female character. Lisa Marie Presly, daughter of Elvis and Priscilla, publicly disagreed when the filmmaker announced the filming of the movie. What would her opinion be if she had lived to see it?
Cailee Spaeny stands out as Priscilla. Her character has enough charm to fill the screen. She shows sensitivity, a key element to the point of view she is trying to convey. Coppola knows how to bring out her female characters and Spaeny was the right actress. I can't say the same for Jacob Elordi. His Elvis is one of the worst impersonations I've ever seen. I couldn't believe it. Every time he was on screen he made me cry with laughter. The shadow of Butler's performance as Elvis also influences my perception of this parapet.
There is something worse than Jacob Elordi's Elvis. The group of characters that make up his entourage. There is not one scene where they are all playing around like five year olds. Goofing around, giggling like idiots. Jumping around, making faces, playing games. What the hell is this?
Priscilla has no magic. The main character stands out in a story that isn't solid enough for my taste. To do this it's better to do nothing. However, Generation Z is going to like it. It may even traumatize them, as everything affects them.
Give your opinion in the comments.

Betting on a new market within the entertainment industry, A24 arrives with a new (and surprising) project: its first adult animation. Hazbin Hotel tells the story of Charlie Morningstar, a young dreamer who is known as the “princess of hell” because she is the daughter of Lucifer. In hell, she decided to open a “special hotel” so that the lost souls living in that hostile territory have some chance of redemption for better days.
Going a little further than this objective, Charlie also searches for a non-violent alternative to prevent an even greater overpopulation in hell, but this group of demons promises to be a lot of work. Amidst this plot (which even brings narrative elements about religion in its presentation “monologue”… something that happens in the first few minutes), there is a range of characters with completely chaotic profiles in all their nuances.
Each of them has a very striking characteristic. Be it pure madness of thoughts, high levels of anxiety, a predilection for pornography, severe depression, megalomaniac attacks, among many other specific points. All of this ends up converging very well within the same universe, showing all the efficiency of an excellent quality script and with a frantic pace of events that are quickly connected in their projections.
The entire exaggerated (and alarmist) tone of the narrative is quite assertive, creating countless situations where logic doesn't make any sense (and that's great, because the craziness of the script becomes even more fun in its most essential context). Charlie is the perfect protagonist for a narrative that will certainly bring even more crazy things in the future. Up until this point, I've only watched the first chapter, and honestly, it's a pretty funny animation.
Vivienne Medrano created a devilishly fun project, acidic and full of dark humor on all sides (the graphic elements are excellent and are even much more functional when, in some way, they manage to satirize religion). Vibrant colors and very striking drawings also help to create an identity of its own for this project, which spares no effort to impact the public with its duality between “good” and “evil”.
I'll watch the other seven episodes soon, but I can already say that Hazbin Hotel is one of the best animations I've seen in years. The dysfunctionality of the characters is surreal, the comic level is extremely high and the intelligence of the lines is undeniable (especially the fact that everything ends up being intricate without there being so much effort for the script to flow normally). The battle between heaven and hell promises to be a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to what's to come.
Buenos días, buenas tardes y buenas noches, damas y caballeros.
Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening, ladies and gentlemen. How are you? In my case, quite well, recovered from my emotional low because you know that there are bad days and good days but today was a movie day. What did I decide to watch? You may ask. Well, the answer is quite simple, a movie about serial killers, this time addressing the topic in an unconventional way. We are not facing a typical movie because our protagonist this time will be the son of the serial killer, so we will see the relationship between these two, how the great discovery is, and how they both handle it. It is not easy at all to see the true and cruel side of the man you admire, all that feigned kindness only to realize in the end that he would be capable of killing you to keep his dark secret. Things will get even more complicated when we see from the beginning of the movie the religious environment they are in, where anything is seen as a sin and technically you would be condemned by that community, making it harder for the son to condemn his father (a topic I will explain further below). So without further ado, let's talk about the movie The Clovehitch Killer.
The film puts us in the shoes of a teenager named Tyler, who seems to live a quiet life in a peaceful neighborhood, being a faithful participant of the church he attends with his family almost every day. He is also a boy scout at a camp, where his father teaches classes and is an expert in knots and other various activities. Tyler's life will change completely the night he decides to take his father's truck without permission to go see a girl. When these two are about to get intimate, the girl will find a strange photograph showing a gagged girl in a bondage or BDSM style. After this, Tyler will be labeled as a pervert in his church community, leaving him completely alone but with a question lingering in his mind: What was that photograph belonging to his father? In search of answers, he will check his father's locked shed where he will find a polaroid photo of a tied-up woman. Then, by searching on the internet for the name of the girl who appeared in the photo, he will discover that she was one of the victims of the serial killer named Clovehitch. Tyler will have to find out if his father is really a killer or if it's all a big misunderstanding.
The development of the plot is slow but it is necessary for it to be this way, it is tried to make the viewer aware of the context in which Tyler finds himself so that we can identify with him and with the decisions he may make, being in an ultra-religious environment where his father seems to be someone perfect and impeccable, the best father that a family could wish for, being good to his children and provider to his wife, even doing household chores, it would be impossible to think anything bad about him, with all the good characteristics that are shown to us it is unthinkable and it is normal for Tyler to doubt when confronted with something like this, his father will obviously lie to save his own skin but he is your father, wouldn't you believe someone who raised you? In your mind, anything that makes him appear innocent will serve, no matter how far-fetched the excuse may be, you have to cling to something to believe in. Tyler's only hope is a girl named Kassi, who has been investigating the killer for years because he killed her mom, she is the one who will continue to make Tyler doubt the true identity of his father, if she hadn't been there maybe Tyler would have let him act in order to maintain the peace of his family.
Just observe the end of the movie, Tyler, due to the religious environment in which he finds himself, where his family is widely happy, he prefers to make his father's death look like a suicide and be remembered as some kind of hero by the scout community. He prefers to be remembered as a good man because he knows his mom and sister couldn't handle the chaos of having had a killer husband/father. He puts his family's health before the closure that the families of the other victims could potentially have. Tyler's father, in his various manipulative attempts, tells him to think about how his mom and sister would feel, perhaps in a cynical way, knowing the power and influence he had over his son. Despite everything, in the end, Tyler was already 100% convinced that his father would do anything to get away unscathed (he was certain that he was the killer), even kill him. This is reflected when Tyler points a rifle at him and then hands it over to his father, surrendering, so that him father can try to shoot him later, but can't because there are no bullets. In a way, he was convinced inside that something like this would happen, that's why he emptied the rifle; Tyler knew he could be shot. The ending is a bit sad and strange, where technically Tyler and Kassi take justice into their own hands, cruel also for the families of the victims since Tyler's father never admitted anything. The movie is a bit slow, but as it progresses, it becomes enjoyable, it feels like a real story.
This was a movie I was expecting and it was something new to me, as I watch the movie the feelings were changing and there are a few reasons I don't give it a 7, but do not think this is a bad movie, it is worth watching although I don't know if this is Statham best work as some hype before the movie came out, in my opinion I think we are a bit over watching him kicking ass, to me The Beekeeper has a good message but it does feel like a John Wick movie, its a mess to rate this movie because I don't know if its because John Wick burn out close contact gun fights.
Queen Slayer was a term use within the movie, the movie starts with a teacher who gets scammed, after malware pop on her laptop asking her to call a number for support the guy at the Tech Support call center basically blank out her bank accounts over $2 Million, Adam Clay played by Jason Statham seek for revenge because this women has now kill herself after such shocking experience.
I'm part of that generation that saw online scams grew and expand, different tech made this possible, the first tech in my opinion that help this a lot was smart phones, latter on social media and chat software, not that all this tech is bad by design but makes communication so easy that scammers take advantage of it, no days its malware that always existed but not to the scale we have it today. On the scene above is Eloise Parker who just got a message that she needs to call tech support, on the other end the scammer who work for the company that planted the malware, the conversation goes around how she will loose her data if doesn't allow them to help her on the spot but the real reason is to get her password and clear out any bank account she has access to from her computer.
The entire scene looks like a satire so many viewers might see it just too fake but its actually not to far from reality, its just the flamboyant style they use to represent it that makes it look too fake, after all this movie is not based on any book or story. At first I was not OK with it, in fact there are many other scenes like this, I understand how this could discourage some viewers.
After they clear out Eloise accounts eventually she could not deal with the weight of this responsibility, sadly she takes her life, a bit rough scene if you ask me, suicide is never fun to watch, Adam was the first one to discover the body after visiting her, he was renting her barn for his Beekeeping operation and seconds latter Agent Verona Parker arrive, Eloise's daughter catching Adam next to her dead mother. You can tell her first though is that he did it but she was wrong, she latter on explains Adam how things happen, that her mother took her life because it was too much the remorse after they clear her bank accounts.
Adam belongs to a security agency called Beekeepers, they operate out of any jurisdictions, he was retired but this is personal, he is going full Beekeeper mode on the guys who did this. Beekeeper only job is to protect the Hive, that been the society, they even have green card to take out anyone on their way including the President himself.
Back to the scammers call center Adam start to kick ass, this is where we start to get the three minutes actions scenes to kick in some dopamine, its like the entire movie was a ride where the director goes full throttle from time to time trying to explain how scamming operations work, also exaggerating things.
Beekeeper cast has a good amount of starts, besides Statham there is the all time favorite Alfred, Mr. Jeremy Irons who is the president's son protector, not sure if his dad btw; Derek Danfoth who use dirty money to make her mother win the elections, money that came from scamming people that his mother knew nothing about, only Derek knew.
Well Jeremy Irons plays Wallace an ex CIA director, now semi retire but in charge of keeping Derek alive while his mother is the USA President. He knows what is a Beekeeper and knows that the chances he can keep Derek alive is close to zero. A lot of fighting an events start to happen trying to stop Adam, at this point the action starts to kick in hard and you will enjoy most of it if not all.
So you telling me they can use USD to buy political power? This is something that I know many will consider it dumb but its a movie, not attach to any realistic history, it is suppose to be entertaining, when I start watching it all I wanted was to watch Statham kick some ass, blow up a few cars and buildings, I even wanted him to die at the end.
Wallace try everything in his power to stop Adam but no luck on doing so, things get dramatic for Derek when the FBI explains her mother, the President whats going on and he was force to tell her the truth, he even took her as hostage and kill the FBI director to protect himself from Adam.
On my intro I told you this is a movie worth watching because of the action and the message within the movie, it is a good message, online scamming is hurting a lot of people actually after I finish the movie I thought, is there some FTX into this movie? dirty money, political power, Sam keeps lying his ass to get out of the situation, see where I'm going? but do not expect this movie to be a AAA+ action title, this is no Leon (1994) , its a movie with some fight action and a good message behind it, the problem I have with it is that many websites were talking about Beekeeper saying "Jason Statham best movie ever" and its not, it doesn't get to a solid 7, John Wick (2014) was a solid 7/10. Beekeeper does a good job at setting up an exaggerated example of how people get scam online and how bad things can turn when there is not return from that kind of looses, that's why I mention the FTX situation because a lot of people got hurt.
To want is to be able to, even if many people tell you that you are not old enough for that, you know that you can, you just have to try.
This type of movies, of stories, are the ones that should be promoted more, they inspire you, they lead you to believe in the impossible, to think, if they could, why not you, what are you afraid of, failure cannot be your limiting factor, you cannot let yourself be carried away by fear, by doubts, you just have to act, and wait, to see what happens, how it ends.
This is a story that really provokes you to watch it, many times, because it shows you courage, bravery, support, and true friendship, all this and more, to motivate you, to achieve what you want.
Nyad is a movie, where we will see a woman, a famous swimmer, who with her 60 years, wanted to achieve what she could not, in her youth, a truncated dream, but suddenly, one day, she woke up, and said to herself, *"I will try, and I will not stop until I achieve it, because it is my dream, and nothing and no one can stop me from achieving it".
But what was this dream about, something that very few professional swimmers, had been able to achieve, better said, no person, in his five senses, would dare to do it; to cross the sea, from the coasts of Cuba to Florida, for many a real madness, a real challenge, a great risk, yes, having to swim with sharks, and any other type of dangerous sea animals, was something she was willing to run, no matter how or what.
This movie is based on the true story of Diana Nyad, who, at the age of 28, tried to accomplish this feat, but failed, so after more than 30 years, she decided to try again, against all odds.
This movie was released in September 2023, starring Annette Bening who played Diana Nyad, along with Jodie Foster as Bonnie Stoll, Diana's best friend, she was part of this great challenge and dream, she was her coach, and her support at all times.
And the film is really inspiring, that obsession, that compulsive desire of Diana to achieve her dream, even if many told her that she was crazy, she was determined to do it, without a doubt, it makes you reflect, a real story, with real events, that motivate you and makes you connect with that helplessness, to see how you try again and again, and nothing, each time is more difficult, but still, you do not stop, you continue, because after all, it is your dream, not of others.
I confess that I love the sea, but I can't swim, so I can't go beyond the shore, and even in the pools, I have to be at the bottom; and seeing others do this, swim like Diana, over and over again, go through the whole sea, is something that many of us wish we could do, an experience, an adventure, a challenge.
The sea must be respected, because it is beautiful, but it also has its risks, so this kind of feats, is only for those who know what they do, and therefore know how far they can go, that is, it is not for everyone, for poor mortals like me, who do not know how to swim haha.
The truth, I really liked this story, although the film lacked a little more development in some scenes, unfinished parts, you can not deny that it had good performances, starting with the protagonists, both played a great role, and that flashback, between the real and the film, although it was intense, could have been shown a little more.
I likewise invite you to watch this movie, if you haven't already, it's worth it, and I bid you farewell with these three quotes from Diana:
Synopsis:The unlikely love story (and scandal) of young Bella Baxter, a beautiful woman who is brought back to life by the hands of an eccentric scientist from the city of Glasgow, in Victorian times.
In some respects, it is still correct to say that there are considerable taboos regarding complete female freedom today. The world has changed, as has its society, but even so, dealing with some issues before the collective and judgmental eyes of people in relation to how far a woman can go, or what she can feel and how she behaves in certain situations, as well like which path she will choose to live is still quite complicated. In this surrealist adventure, the focus is on trying to focus on the search for this freedom in its entirety.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Bella Baxter is, literally, a female version of the famous Frankenstein monster, and within this plot she has the role of being the perfect counterpoint to the misogynistic reality of her time. Back to life, she needs to see the world again, but navigating this new reality will require a lot of courage, as well as persistence to free herself from the social constraints imposed by social conditioning behavior that deprives women of talking and doing many things. An incredibly well-built and complex character.
Inside the imposing house of Godwin (the “crazy” scientist), the script tries to make maximum use of all its narrative power to create its didactic language, and also a visual aspect that will last throughout the projection (which lasts little more than its hours). The dynamism on which everything is built is enviable, and the use of Bella as a woman ahead of her time amidst the social conventions of the world is genius, because at the same time that she creates her own world, she “destroys” the walls around him, shocking everyone with his attitudes (mainly sexual).
The pace of the project is very frenetic, and it embraces themes that converge directly with the “new world” of a young woman in full discovery (because until then, everything she knew no longer exists in her mind), so, when dealing with the different stories of wealth and poverty that are rooted in the plot, the script (which is very intelligent), also brings a touch of dark humor (and sometimes even acid) about the capitalism permeated in that society. There is a very interesting approach to this aspect, which still finds space to deal with science and technology.
There is a very admirable effort in transforming this very “strange” movie (a vision that falls more in the eyes of the more conservative public) into a kind of fable about coming of age, about the fight against a tyranny that favors patriarchy and the detention of property toilet. The convergence of all these elements is very skillfully dosed, creating perfect scenarios to encourage countless types of debates. Also highlighting elements and approaches to machismo (structural or not) and the deprivation of freedom in broad senses, the plot is very clever.
The way Bella Baxter is conceived (from her development, evolution around her and what she represents to society) is genius. Emma Stone literally transforms into a child, who is learning to deal with her dilemmas in unexpected ways and precisely for this reason she also ends up being a comic relief to the plot due to her innocence in the face of the evil in the world. A masterful performance, and certainly one of the best in Emma Stone's entire career to date. I'm amazed to see what she managed to do with so much eccentricity.
Alongside her are the great Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe, who also deliver great performances here. However, Ruffalo has much more screen time than Dafoe, but ironically, it is precisely Dafoe who has a greater presence and importance to the essence of the plot (although Ruffalo is just as necessary as him). The supporting cast is also very good, even if some of them only represent passing “transitional elements” to try to connect one situation to another (this is the single most flawed aspect of the entire script, because they become forgettable).
Yorgos Lanthimos delivers a very mature and extremely efficient work here, showing that he has evolved a lot as a filmmaker. Poor Things(which is an adaptation of the book written by Alasdair Gray) still delivers true visual delights, mixing surrealism with impressive “psychedelic” elements, showing stupendous technical quality work, as well as great insertions in relation to its costumes, art editing (which makes the most of elements such as colors and lights, in addition to scenes with striking aspects) and a very functional soundtrack.
