I avoiding watching this movie for a while. The treason was two-fold. First I am the scardiest scaredy cat in the world. I am not a fan of horror movies. Because I get so emotionally involved in films, I think I just get too into horror movies and I am genuinely scared. Not fun scared but, miserable scared. As a result, a horror movie has to be very special for me to push through it. Second, I was a little leery of the movie just exploiting black move tropes.

Luckily for me, my daughter convinced me that I would enjoy this movie and I should give it a try. I am so glad she did. This movie is special. I went into it thinking this was going to be a slapstick comedy similar to scary movie from back in the day. But I was very wrong. This is a legit horror movie that happens to be funny. It is not a spoof. It has a real plot but it also works in a ton of jokes.

It is also a great satire. While not a spoof of horror movies, it is a satire of one. It pokes fun at a lot of typical horror movie tropes. But it also satirizes the treatment of black people in horror movies, movies in general and in society. I was very pleasantly surprised at how they shed a light on these issues while staying true to the plot of the movie. And like all good satire, it really made me laugh. I later found out this was a skit from one of the actor's comedy shows. That made it even more impressive for me as it is usually very hard to write a complete story based on a short skit. I mean for every Wayne's World there are 5 Night at The Roxbury.

Without providing any spoilers, the movie centers on a group of friends from college who have a 10 year reunion in a fancy cabin in the woods. From the very first scene, we are all in on the joke that nothing good is going to happen at a cabin in the woods. Because it is a comedy, the writers really played up the fact that every stereotypical college type was represented in the friend group. Some have become huge successes in life while others are just extending their college identity. There is of course one outsider to provide even more comic relief. And of course there is a couple who used to date in college and have now rekindled that romance. If it weren't a comedy, I would have rolled my eyes at the cliche roles. But that is the point of the movie. It is making fun of those cliches in many hilarious ways.

he best part of the movie for me is that it honestly wasn't that scary. It was more a vehicle for laughs than jump scares. It also wasn't overly gory. I honestly don't remember ever being really scared while watching . It was more a feeling of anticipation waiting for the next attack or laugh. If you love to be scared, that is not the point of this movie.

I do feel it is important to give one caveat. Although there was nothing too brutal or graphic, they use a specific word way too many times for my comfort. As a teacher, I always stress that I try to avoid hateful words even when they are used by the group that is trying to take the power from that word. But seeing as the writers put a lot of thought into everything in the movie, I had to accept the dialogue and I had to change my point of view a little bit so that I could still enjoy the movie.

It’s new, it’s a thriller, and, of course, Keira Knightley stars as the protagonist. That combination sounded like a perfect recipe for a cool night at home.

Story:

A travel writer/journalist stumbles upon a gruesome secret while traveling aboard a luxury cruise ship.

The story follows a journalist who’s invited on a luxurious cruise hosted by a wealthy couple to document an important agreement/deal.

But once aboard, strange things begin to unfold, or is it just Keira's imagination?

There seems to be a distinct line between delusion and truth, as the protagonist questions everything happening around her and she seems to be alone with noone at her side.

Where does imagination end and reality begin?

Keira Knightley in most of the movie, delivers a strong, nuanced performance that easily elevates the film. There parts of the film where she has the same style, look, expression as the ones we are used to see.

But overall, she’s convincing, even when the script doesn’t fully support the suspense it promises.

As I saw by other reviews, the script comes from a novel after a lot of changes that the readers found unnecessary.

The rest of the cast does a decent job, though most of the characters feel more like stereotypes than real people.

Visually, there are some really beautiful scenes captured. The Norwegian setting is beautiful, and the cinematography effectively builds a memorable atmosphere.

Still, I felt that The Woman in Cabin 10 never quite reaches the level of mystery and excitement its trailer suggests. It’s a fine, easy-to-watch Netflix thriller, but not one that remains stuck in your head after it ends.

Overall: Drifting somewhere between good/viewable and forgettable.

Rating At the moment I see a 6/10 out of 8.6K reviews. I would also put it at the range of 6-6.2, not more.

Will be curious to see how this rating will transform as more people will see and rate it.

A prime exemplar of this alchemy is found in the contrast between TOS’s The Deadly Years and TNG’s Unnatural Selection. The most immediately apparent improvement over The Deadly Years lies in the realm of production. The 1980s budget and technological advancements afforded TNG vastly superior special effects and, critically, far more convincing and disturbing makeup to depict the ravages of accelerated aging. The wrinkled, desiccated features of the Lantree crew and the Darwin scientists carry a visceral, unsettling weight utterly beyond the capabilities of TOS’s era, grounding the horror in tangible, believable physicality.

Yet, the script’s evolution represents an even more significant leap forward. Instead of the entire Enterprise crew being afflicted – a narrative choice that inherently diluted tension in TOS by virtue of its scale and the audience’s certainty the main cast would survive – TNG wisely confines the rapid aging to a single, pivotal character: Pulaski. Crucially, as Pulaski was a relatively new and somewhat controversial addition to the cast (replacing Dr. Crusher), her fate felt genuinely uncertain. Scriptwriters John Mason and Mike Gray expertly exploit this ambiguity. The episode’s early scene, where Picard subtly probes Counselor Troi about Pulaski’s recent behaviour, masterfully plants seeds of doubt regarding her future with the ship, thereby ratcheting up suspense significantly. The audience cannot be certain Pulaski will survive, making her ordeal profoundly more engaging.

The resolution via transporter-based DNA restoration, while not entirely original (having roots in The Animated Series’ The Lorelei Signal), is handled with far greater efficiency and narrative purpose here. It serves not just as a plot device, but as a perfect vehicle to spotlight Transporter Chief Miles O’Brien. His quiet competence and critical intervention save Pulaski and, by extension, the mission. Significantly, O’Brien receives minimal on-screen fanfare for his heroics – a subtle character moment that foreshadows his later evolution into one of Star Trek’s most beloved and enduring figures. This stands in stark, almost ironic contrast to Pulaski’s own trajectory; despite her central role here, she would ultimately be remembered primarily as a temporary replacement, her character failing to resonate as deeply as O’Brien’s would over the long arc of the franchise.

The episode concludes with a simple yet profoundly resonant gesture: the Enterprise destroys the derelict Lantree in a solemn act of respect, refusing to leave the bodies of their fallen comrades adrift in permanent quarantine. Yet, the most significant and ultimately damning flaw lies in fundamental continuity. The episode presents the Darwin Station’s open, state-sanctioned practice of advanced human genetic engineering – creating children with telepathy, telekinesis, and radically enhanced physiologies – as an accepted, even lauded, Federation endeavour. This stands in catastrophic contradiction to the established Star Trek canon. From TNG to all other series of the franchise, genetic engineering of humans is depicted as a profound ethical abomination within the Federation, a taboo rooted in the horrors of the Eugenics Wars. The Federation explicitly prohibits such practices. The notion that Starfleet would fund, operate, and protect a facility like Darwin Station, producing beings explicitly superior to baseline humans, renders Unnatural Selection a glaring narrative dead end. Its technical merits and strong performances are tragically undermined by this foundational inconsistency, making it a fascinating but ultimately isolated specimen within the broader Star Trek ecosystem – a high-quality episode that fundamentally misunderstands the universe it inhabits. It serves as a stark reminder that even within the Golden Age, narrative coherence could sometimes falter, leaving behind a compelling yet canonically orphaned story.

ACP Sanyukta Das is not just a police officer; she is the embodiment of a working woman struggling to find balance. Her competence is unquestionable, but her inner silence and personal failures (a crumbling relationship) make her vulnerable. She sees this case as a final attempt to cover her personal failures or prove her worth. Her investigative approach is emotionless and logic-driven, serving as an escape from the chaos of her personal life. She acts as the audience’s moral compass, highlighting the impossible struggle to balance professional success and personal happiness—a battle many women face.

ACP Joy Kanwal, a symbol of the younger generation, is energetic, passionate, and a firm believer in justice. Initially, he seeks to prove himself to Sanyukta. However, as the investigation deepens, he realizes how fragile his idealistic beliefs are in the face of reality (political corruption and the influence of power). His character represents the “end of innocence,” serving as a catalyst that shifts the story’s trajectory. Through him, we see how the dark side of power can shatter a young officer’s psyche.

Nayana, the murdered teenager, is a victim of societal unrest. Though physically absent, her presence drives the narrative. She is the affluent teenager whose outward life seems perfect but is inwardly plagued by despair, blackmail, and toxic relationships. Her death is not a random accident; it’s a consequence of society’s “moral decay” and the traps of the virtual world. It’s been a mixed weekend for me, focusing on only the positives, I’d say my weekend started with a win in the Friday Hivechess Tournament chess960. In the future, I will make a post about how I won and the top wins I achieved during the game. That aside, I got to watch an interesting movie on Prime Video titled The Killer's Game starring Baustista. Bautista is one of the wrestler-turned-actors I enjoy watching on my screen, right from movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and The Spy.

Bautista acts as a hitman called Joe Flood in this movie, where he goes on a mission to take out a criminal at a dance performance theatre in Budapest. He did not come with many weapons, like you would expect a hitman to come along with. Anyway, he is Baustista, so all he needs is a gun and his fighting skills. At the theatre, he rescues a dancer named Maize when gunshots were fired in the theatre and everybody ran for their heels.

Personal thoughts on the movie I can't even believe that a Father sent out his 18 year old son to go be a hitman, so he could be proud of him. This movie is really amazing. Though hilarious, but it is actually relaxing and comical. A must watch movie.

Summary:

"London Calling" is an action-comedy film about Tommy Ward, a down-on-his-luck hitman with bad eyesight, played by Josh Duhamel. After botching a job in London, Tommy flees to Los Angeles, where he works for crime boss Benson, played by Rick Hoffman. Benson tasks Tommy with taking care of his son Julian, played by Jeremy Ray Taylor, and teaching him how to become a man. As they embark on a series of hits, Tommy and Julian develop an unlikely friendship.

Funny Scene:

One memorable scene features Julian trying to open Alistair McRory's mouth, a crazed Irish assassin played by Neil Sandilands, like he's posing with a lion. This scene showcases the film's offbeat humor and the comedic chemistry between the leads.

A few days ago, I downloaded a bunch of new horror movies and had some pleasant surprises. The best one was the one I posted here a while ago, "Bring Her Back," but I can't help but mention this fascinating work by director Emilie Kristine Blichfeldt (her first feature film), which is The Ugly Stepsister. It's a kind of paranoid and distorted fable of the romanticized tales of "finding Prince Charming". And I think what's most interesting here is precisely the contrast of techniques, the use of post-cinema in aesthetic terms interspersed with the almost hypnagogic narration/model of the story itself, reminiscent of a kind of "Picnic at the Mysterious Mountain" filmed by Nicolas Winding Refn. And best of all, made from the perspective of a female director. It is unclear what to expect from "The Ugly Stepsister." We see cracks in the female psyche, suffering interspersed with obsession, gore mixed with illusory romance, and so on. Here, in fact, the "supposedly ugly" sister ends up having to deal with her terrible family and, in many moments, submitting herself to unimaginable strategies to "improve." All this through an aesthetic flirtation with the gothic and magical realism, and none of it comes with an expected ending, a model of logical resolution; the film plays with the viewer's patience and understanding. All that remains to be said is that this experience is really worth it. You may even leave the screening thinking that it is a film in bad taste and that it is not even a "horror" film, but it will stir up a lot of emotions in you.

Uma espécie de fábula paranóica e deturpada dos contos romantizados de "encontrar o príncipe encantado". E acho que o que é mais interessante aqui é exatamente o contraste de técnicas, o uso do pós cinema em termos estéticos intercalados com a narração/modelo quase hipnagógico da história em si, lembrando uma espécie de "Picnic na Montanha Misteriosa" filmada por Nicolas Winding Refn. E o melhor de tudo, feito pela visão de uma diretorA (mulher!). Não fica claro o que se deve esperar de "The Ugly Stepsister", temos fissuras na psique feminina, sofrimento intercalado com obsessão, gore misturado com romance ilusório, e assim por diante. However, the narrative lens remained frustratingly narrow, primarily confined to the Canterbury, the Rocinante, and the political corridors of Earth. Safe" immediately rectifies this imbalance by thrusting the audience onto the rust-coloured sands of Mars itself. The episode’s visceral opening sequence plunges us directly into the Martian Marine Corps (MMC), specifically an elite squad commanded by the formidable Gunnery Sergeant Roberta "Bobby" W. Draper (Frankie Adams). The intensity of their combat drill – all kinetic gunfire, tactical shouts, and ingrained discipline – is masterfully executed, only to be revealed as a mere training simulation. This clever misdirection serves a dual purpose: showcasing the Martians’ relentless military preparedness and introducing Draper as a character whose identity is inextricably linked to the Corps and the Martian dream. In a move of devastating consequence, Sutton orders missiles fired – not at the Earth ship, but at Phoebe Station itself. The station’s destruction, intended to deny Earth its prize, inadvertently plays directly into Jules-Pierre Mao’s hands, ensuring the protomolecule evidence vanishes. While this action temporarily forestalls all-out war, it underscores the tragic ease with which grand political designs manipulate military personnel, rendering their sacrifices ultimately futile within the larger, hidden game.

Written by series architects Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, and directed with confident pacing by Breck Eisner, Safe succeeds admirably in its primary function: expanding the Expanse universe beyond its Season 1 confines. The depiction of Mars is particularly noteworthy – not as a verdant future, but as a still-desolate, red world where the dream of terraforming feels increasingly distant, sacrificed on the altar of perpetual militarisation against Earth. Frankie Adams makes an undeniable impact as Draper, her physical presence and quiet intensity commanding attention. Yet, the character remains frustratingly skeletal; her motivations beyond Corps loyalty and the terraforming ideal are barely sketched, demanding significant fleshing-out in subsequent episodes. The Rocinante plotline is largely serviceable, anchored by strong character moments: Miller’s vulnerability, Amos’s deepening moral ambiguity, and Alex’s crucial role as the crew’s emotional anchor and peacemaker. However, the aforementioned airlock scene exemplifies a recurring pitfall – prioritising shock value or formulaic repetition over the nuanced character development that is The Expanse’s greatest strength.

Ultimately, Safe is a necessary and largely effective bridge. It successfully introduces vital new dimensions to the solar system’s power structure, particularly through the compelling, if underdeveloped, Martian perspective, and maintains the intricate political chess game on Earth with Avasarala’s masterful scheming. While it stumbles with a clichéd romantic interlude and leaves Draper’s potential frustratingly unrealised, the episode reaffirms The Expanse’s core strength: its unwavering commitment to depicting the complex, often brutal, realities of life across a divided solar system. It sets the stage with urgency and scale, proving that even within the constraints of contemporary television, this saga’s Expanse remains vast enough to demand our continued attention, flaws and all. The ambition is palpable; the execution, while imperfect, is consistently compelling.

I am still baffled why Mel Gibson didn't get an oscar for this. 16 years later I am still moved by this movie although it's brutal. It's a complete masterpiece; No one has ever done such a movie.

I rewatched this movie today. Every scene, every experience makes me feel every heartbeat, every breath, every scream. I remember sitting there thinking was this historical movie about tribes and ancient rituals real. It's all based on Survival.The kind of story that reminds you how fragile, how raw, and how primal being human really is.

Here's my review on the movie.

It begins in the jungle, green, thick, alive. You can nearly feel it almost through the screen. There is our protagonist or main character Jaguar Paw along with his friends, all hunting a tapir, laughing, teasing, as young men in their tribe. So much light in that beginning--his pregnant wife, his son, his father with his wisdom. Life feels whole, simple. And as all good things do it breaks.

Once the invaders arrive, it is an open nightmare. Men, covered in paint and frenzy, raid their village, burning it down. Smoke clouds the air, babies are crying, people screaming, arrows flying--it is madness.

They kill, capture, destroy. You can find Jaguar Paw attempting to fight, but what could one man do with so many? He conceals his child and wife in deep hole, literally burying them beneath the ground, then he is led away in chains. And that moment? And then you get it, he is no longer fighting to stay alive. He is struggling to reunite with them.

The prisoners are taken into the forests and Mel Gibson does not restrain himself. You can feel each cut, each bruise, each blistered footstep.

They are marched to this great city of fear and blood, where human lives are sacrificed in the sweltering sun in as much as their gods are pleased. It is terrible--the heart of men hacked out, bodies thrown down the steps, the people applauding like it is a celebration.

And there, at the center of it all, is Jaguar Paw, painted with dirt and blood, and glaring into the eyes of death. But luck- or better still, fortune- spares him. There is a sudden eclipse which makes the sky black and the priests are frightened and he is taken off to be killed in some other place. It is then that the actual film commences.

Because Apocalypto isn’t about dying—it’s about refusing to. The chase that follows is one of the most intense sequences I’ve ever seen. Jaguar Paw runs. Through forests, across rivers, through mud and blood and pain, with death on his heels.

The way the camera moves—it’s so close you can hear his heartbeat, his breath, the pounding of his feet against the ground. He’s not just escaping; he’s transforming. He goes from prey to predator, from man to myth.

I have one scene in my mind that is seared by the flame and you realize that he sets a trap and turns around and you see the fear sides of it. The hunters are turned to be the hunted. It is savage and lyric and frightening at the same time. You can almost hear the jungle itself applauding him.

All the branches, all the shadows, all the drops of rain turn into an ally. And all through it all there is this desperation that is set up: his wife and child are still in there, the rain is beating and the hole is filling with water. It is not survival only, but it is a race against time.

By the time he returns, the strain is overwhelming. His wife is clinging onto just a thread, holding their baby over surging water, her eyes mad with hope and fear. And when you think it is all over, when you think perhaps, at last, they will be safe, the invaders come after them. the last pursuit empties on the beach and you find yourself suddenly, in the mist, seeing transports--Spanish transports--at anchor. Cross-bearing and armor-clad strange men emerge and you understand that everything that has passed has been merely a precursor of a storm of greater size. The experience of death has made Jaguar Paw look like death itself: he has survived to witness the birth of another type of devastation.

And instead of turning to them he turns back into the woods--with his family, with his life will that remained. Since it is not his to comprehend what is left of the world; it is his to survive.
