¡Hola cinéfilos de #Hive! Bienvenidos a una nueva reseña en la comunidad Movies & TV Shows. Hace algunos días, estuve hablando con un amigo de parecidos gustos cinematográficos. Este me recomendó ver una serie que había visto hace unos años, sabiendo que me atrae el género de los cómics llevados al audiovisual. Esta serie de las que le hablaré se llama: Peacemaker.

Se trata de una serie estrenada en el año 2022 y que fue creada por el reconocido cineasta James Gunn, para la plataforma de streaming HBO Max. Peacemaker es una de las joyas del universo DC, se destaca sobre las demás por su original combinación de acción trepidante y humor negro, además de contar con una sorprendente profundidad emocional.

La idea de esta serie cobró vida luego de la película The Suicide Squad del año 2021. La historia sigue al personaje Christopher Smith, alias Peacemake (interpretado por el actor John Cena). Quien le da vida a un antihéroe de moral dudosa, con un turbulento pasado y que posee un talento innato para causar el caos, mientras supuestamente intenta salvar el mundo.

Su primera temporada cuenta con ocho episodios, en los que el espectador, de buena manera, podrá adentrase en una experiencia vibrante, equilibrando lo absurdo con lo humano. La serie viene como anillo al dedo para los fans de los superhéroes y las historias poco convencionales. Como ya les comentaba anteriormente, la trama comienza luego de los eventos de The Suicide Squad.

Peacemaker se encuentra recuperándose de sus heridas pero termina siendo, de alguna manera, salvado de una vida sin propósito. Luego de ser reclutado por un equipo secreto, que liderado por Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji) enfrenta una amenaza alienígena conocida como "Butterflies".

Peacemaker es llamado a inmiscuirse en misiones peligrosas y relaciones complicadas con los fantasmas de su pasado. Especialmente por la influencia de su padre, Auggie Smith, quien es un villano supremacista y líder de la organización White Dragon (interpretado por el reconocido actor Robert Patrick).

Personalmente, tengo que decir, que me gustó mucho cómo la serie logra combinar la ciencia ficción con dilemas personales, explorando temas como la redención, la lealtad y la influencia de las expectativas familiares. Por otro lado, John Cena logró brillar como Peacemaker, aportándole carisma y vulnerabilidad a un personaje que podría haber sido, un simple bueno para nada.

Con una mezcla de humor inteligente y momentos de introspección y mostrando las inseguridades, de un hombre criado bajo una figura paterna bastante tóxica. El casting de la serie estuvo compuesto de personajes establecidos, así como por la frescura de nuevos, entre los que destacan en roles secundarios: Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks), Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) y Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland).

Hay que decir que la dirección de Gunn, junto con otros directores que participaron en la producción, le aportaron a este material audiovisual un ritmo dinámico. Con escenas de acción que estuvieron bien coreografiadas, aunque acá entre nos, lo que más sobresale de la producción es la decisión de llevar musicalmente la serie hacia un ritmo ochentero, por el que se estuvieron paseando bandas como Hanoi Rocks y Wig Wam.

Sin volvernos demasiado críticos, ni intensos a la hora de jugar esta serie, diría sin temor a equivocarme, que la distingue su capacidad para equilibrar, tanto lo ridículo como lo conmovedor. Y aunque sus diálogos están llenos de chistes subidos de tono y referencias de la cultura pop, también trata temas serios, como el trauma generacional y la lucha por definirse más allá de las expectativas de los demás.

Peacemaker, es una serie imprescindible para aquellos amantes del género superheroico, que siempre están en la búsqueda de algo fresco y a la vez divertido, que levante la autoestima humana. Una segunda temporada para esta serie, nos confirma que Peacemaker llegó para convertirse en un personaje icónico. Así que no queda nada más que descubrir, con qué será que nos sorprenderá James Gunn esta vez.

Whenever I rewatch Naruto Shippuden, there’s one character that never leaves my mind, and I believe many other fans feel the same way.

Sasori of the Red Sand.

I know a lot of people only remember him for the fight against Sakura and Chiyo, or for being one of the first major Akatsuki enemies, but to me he was always much more than that. And that’s exactly why I get that sense of emptiness every time I think about how he was “discarded” too soon in the story. I really wish Sasori had survived, or at least had been written as a less “evil villain” and more of a tragic, human one. Because he already had all the elements for that.

The first time I learned his story, I was struck. A child who loses his parents, who tries to recreate their presence through puppets, who grows up practically alone… it’s impossible not to feel pity. He never had real affection, only substitutes, dolls, mechanisms. And in a way, that’s what shaped his obsession with puppet art and the idea of making things eternal.

When I look at Sasori, I don’t just see a cruel criminal. I see someone who got lost in his own pain. He believed that turning people into puppets was a way to make them eternal, but deep down that was just a reflection of his inner emptiness.

Here’s where my critique comes in:

I think Kishimoto didn’t know how to make the most of Sasori.

He had everything to be a complex villain, full of dilemmas, but he ended up being portrayed in a rather rushed way. He shows up, demonstrates insane power after all, defeating the Third Kazekage and turning him into a puppet is no small feat and then is quickly defeated, almost as if he was just a stepping stone for Sakura’s growth.

Don’t get me wrong, that fight is fantastic.

It’s one of my favorites from the beginning of Shippuden. But what bothers me is that he chooses to die, he literally lets death take him, as if he were tired. It’s poetic, but it also cuts off any chance of future development at the root. I always thought man, what if he had survived? What if, instead of accepting death, he had surrendered, fled, or even switched sides later on?

When I checked some discussions on Reddit and other forums, I realized I wasn’t alone.

Many people believe Sasori was underutilized.

He could have appeared in later arcs, especially in the Great Ninja War, where his intelligence and puppeteering skills would have made a difference. I also saw fans commenting that his fight against Sakura and Chiyo was incredible precisely because it showed emotion. The guy, who seemed to be pure coldness, in the end showed that he still carried memories and feelings for his parents. That makes it clear that there was room for a redemption arc.

And honestly?

I would have much rather seen Sasori alive, torn between his loyalty to Akatsuki and his secret desire to find some kind of peace, than to see him simply “dying by choice.”

How I wish it had been

If I could rewrite it, I would have kept Sasori alive. Maybe gravely wounded after the fight, but not dead. He could have distanced himself from Akatsuki, become an occasional enemy, someone who wasn’t on the side of good, but who also wasn’t a pure villain. An antagonist full of gray areas, with motivations that actually made sense within his pain.

Imagine him meeting Naruto at some point, and the two of them discussing what “eternity” is and what it really means to leave something behind in the world. Naruto, with his belief that people’s memories live on in hearts, would be the perfect opposite to Sasori, who believed in trapping lives in wood and iron. That philosophical clash would have been far more powerful than just seeing Sasori fade into obscurity.

Another thing that could have been explored is the fact that Sasori still loved his grandmother, even if in a distorted way. The final fight itself shows this, and I would have loved to see more moments of inner conflict between them, or even a scene of forgiveness.

I understand that Naruto Shippuden already had too many villains and needed to move forward, but I really think Sasori was handled too hastily. He had the material to be much more than just “the guy with poisonous puppets.”

For me, Sasori should have been an antagonist who lasted longer, maybe even becoming a sort of reluctant ally against a bigger enemy. He didn’t need to be good, but he also didn’t need to be just another disposable villain.

Sasori had pain, had a past, had motivation.

And if he had been written with more patience, he could have been one of the most memorable characters in Naruto.

Alright, let’s talk about High School DxD — not from the surface level most people stop at, but the way it actually feels to watch. I’ll be honest: when I first heard about High School DxD, I thought I knew exactly what I was walking into. Ecchi comedy, over-the-top fanservice, a story that was probably paper-thin. And yes, all of that is there. But somewhere along the way, I stopped watching ironically and started caring — really caring. That shift surprised me. It’s easy to laugh at Issei’s ridiculous pervy antics, but what caught me off guard was how much heart sat beneath all the chaos.

First, Issesai is the type of a protagonist you hate to see. He is loud, he is horny and he carries the desires on his sleeve. However, after some time I knew that is one of the reasons that makes him so real. He is not trying to seem good or even to pretend that he does not care about the things that he clearly cares about. And beneath that there is this dogged allegiance, this desire to defend the people who are close to him despite not knowing the bigger conflicts he has become involved in. I was effected at watching him pass out of an unsuspecting, altruistic adolescent into the man who would sacrifice his own life to rescue those of his friends.

And then there’s Rias. She looks like the dream of every fanboy on the surface: beautiful, powerful, mysterious. But the more I looked the more I perceived her layers. She is not only a leader; she is vulnerable as she is not always so demonstrative, but a bearer of the burden of being born in the world of demons, politics and expectations. The little scenes between her and Issei were what actually drew me in not the glamorous, sexy ones but the quiet little ones, the almost sensitive ones. The manner she places her trust in him, how he enables her in his turn. Their romance was less of a dream and more of two individuals as they were each drawing towards one another, imperfections and all.

And yet after watching High School DxD, the most interesting thing about it was not necessarily the fanservice (although, again, we cannot neglect it) but the family life of the peerage of Rias. Every character, Akeno with her elegant smile that conceals pain, Koneko with her rough honesty and even Asia with her sweet innocence, they were not side characters. They joined a selected family. And watching them fight, bicker, laugh, and risk everything for each other gave the show more weight than I ever expected.

I had times that gave me a gut-punch. One is the arc of Asia - her isolation, her requirement to belong, and her despondency. The initial occasion she smiles it is her heart that she belongs to the world of Issei and others, I tell you I choked. And then there were battles in which the stakes were so great not alone by the flashy powers but by the very virtue of knowing what these characters meant to each other. When somebody was hurt, it was not a plot point but it hurt me as well.

And of course, I laughed — a lot. The humor behind High School DxD is insane, unashamed, and other times so ridiculous that you can just not stop loving it. The pervy one-liners of Issei, the ridiculous circumstances in which he finds himself- they injected the seriousness thereof in a manner which never allowed the show to go too heavy. That is the combination of absurd and sincere that makes the series a success.

I had finished when I understood that High School DxD is not only about demons, angels, and fanservice. It was concerning tolerance, devotion and solace in the relationships you establish. It brought me to the point of laughter until I felt it in the stomach, it brought me to the point of feeling something I did not expect, and it helped me to side with a group of characters that were stereotypes but evolved in some way.

So, yea — High School DxD pleasantly surprised me. It is sloppy, it is absurd, it is shamelessly extreme. Nonetheless, it is also heartfelt, funny, and on some occasions, it is very touching. And that is why it kept on playing in my mind even after the credits were over.

I hope you are all well. Today I bring you a recommendation for a very good anime, but one that is not very well known and has not had the popularity it deserves. But I am sure that anyone who watches it will like it.

This anime is called Shumetsu no Bahamut: Genesis. The story begins by introducing us to a colossal battle for the fate of the world and the survival of all existing races. Where humans, demons, and gods put aside their differences and united to face a common enemy: the ancient and powerful dragon Bahamut, who unleashed chaos in Mistarcia, a world inhabited by gods, demons, and humans. Bahamut's power was so great that these species had to unite to seal him away, as they were unable to defeat him. But soon, Favaro's carefree and uncontrolled life is thrown into chaos when he encounters Amira, a mysterious young woman who has fallen from the sky and is being pursued by the three species. Favaro unwittingly ends up making a kind of contract with Amira, who, in exchange for taking her to Helheim, will give him a kiss. To ensure that Favaro fulfils the contract, she casts a curse on him, turning him into a demon.

Favaro must take her to the frozen and gloomy lands of Helheim if he wants to become human again, unaware that he will find himself in a hunt for Amira, while the resurgence of Bahamut seems closer than ever.

I consider it a very complete story, with good characters, from the liberal Favaro, the honourable Kaisar, the sombre Rita, and the mysterious but childish Amira. The story combines drama and humour very well, with amazing battles and fights in between and an epic and inevitable confrontation with Bahamut. Amira's identity haunts the plot from the beginning, the moment it is discovered that she stole the 'key of God' from the gods and merged with it, thus becoming the key herself. Her behaviour, her desire to travel to Helheim, and the strange ability she possesses in her eyes, as well as the race to which she belongs, add an enchanting mystery to the plot.

The dynamics between the characters are very good. They are a diverse group of unlikely heroes who will go through tough times when the final hour comes. I love the animation and drawing style of this anime, and the battles are simply impressive. I think the story is well done. This anime has only 12 episodes, but there is another season. However, the second season features different protagonists and takes place some time after the events of the first season, and although it is good, it is not as good as the first.

Even so, Shumetsu no Bahamut: Genesis is an incredible anime with great characters and a well-developed story, despite being short, which draws you in from the very first moment.

Este anime se llama Shumetsu no Bahamut: Génesis. La historia arranca presentándonos una colosal batalla por el destino del mundo y la sobrevivencia de todas las razas existentes. Favaro deberá llevarla a las tierras heladas y sombrías de Helheim, si quiere volver a ser humano, sin saber que se vería en vuelto, en una cacería por Amira, mientras el resurgimiento de Bahamut parece más cerca que nunca.

Considero que es una historia muy completa, con buenos personajes, desde el liberal Favaro, el honorable Kaisar, la sombría Rita y la misteriosa pero infantil Amira. La historia combina muy bien, drama y humor, con asombrosas batallas y peleas de por medio y un enfrentamiento épico e inevitable contra Bahamut. La identidad de Amira acecha la trama desde el principio, al instante en que se descubre que ella robó la “llave de Dios” que tenían los dioses y se fusionó con ella, convirtiéndose así en la llave. Su comportamiento, su deseo de viajar a Helheim y la extraña habilidad que posee en sus ojos, así como la raza a la que pertenece, le agrega un misterio encantador a la trama.

La dinámica entre los personajes es muy buena, son un grupo diverso de héroes poco probables, que pasarán por momentos duros, cuando llegue la hora final. La animación y el estilo de dibujo de este anime me encanta y las batallas son simplemente impresionantes y considero que la historia está bien hecha. Este anime cuenta con tan solo 12 capítulos, pero tiene otra temporada. Pero lo que sucede es que la segunda temporada cuenta con otros protagonistas y ocurre tiempo después de los eventos de la primera temporada y, aunque es buena, no lo es tanto como la primera.

Aun así, Shumetsu no Bahamut: Génesis, es un anime increíble con grandiosos personajes y una historia bien de desarrollada a pesar de ser corta, que atrae desde el primer instante.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Since I was a child I have loved the world of anime and manga; my first programs I enjoyed were Mazinger Z, Kamui and many others; I especially loved the ones about robots and ninjas. They are anime that I have never been able to forget and nowadays I can watch them; however; at this moment I offer you my opinion about a series that has caused me a lot of emotion and that I discovered when I read a book about it. From there I was encouraged to look for it and watch it since its first season; it is the series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, a series that impacted me in every way for its plot, its characters, its battles, everything encompasses a well done work and worthy of watching chapter by chapter.

You can't say the ride is slow, because from the very first chapter the series grips you to a great extent; a simply extraordinary first chapter that left me begging for more. What seemed like a normal day for the main character Tanjiro, turned into a homecoming of pure death and despair. It's not easy to leave home to do an activity and after a long day, come back to it and see your whole family torn apart; no one can really know how to act. Well; this is what happened to Tanjiro and precisely that tragedy is the point that makes the whole series explode with emotion.

Despite everything; for Tanjiro there was a bit of hope because his sister Nezuko was still alive; however, she had turned into a demon; that didn't matter to Tanjiro because his only mission was to try to find a cure for his sister. This scene full of emotion and family surrender is captivating and simply engages the audience totally; the relationship between them is incredible, to the point of watching Nezuko fight against that inner demon to help her brother. On the other hand; the quality of the animations are great, the moment of the fights are masterful, seeing the swords in motion performing their cuts really leave you with your eyes open; especially the moment when Tanjiro you use the breaths, are instants that have stuck with me for the colorfulness they leave on the screen.

The characters apart from the main ones; are a fundamental axis in the series, for example Zenitsu; initially I thought he was just a fearful, but as the series progresses he shows all his strength. Another great impression was made by Inosuke with his boar head, a temperamental being full of energy; they are Tanjiro's companions, but just like him; they also have a struggle with their inner demons. Truly these friends have left me surprised in each of their performances; it is certainly a series full of action and fight against demons, but we can also see that these demons were not always like that, because before becoming so they were human beings who succumbed to the lies of the superior demon.

A point that caught my attention in this series; is how Tanjiro's personality transforms, since we do not see him as a person with a craving for brute revenge; he certainly wants to avenge the death of his family, but he also seeks a cure for his sister. On the other hand; I observed carefully, that this character at the moment of battling with demons, feels some compassion for them and internalizes the reasons that led those people to transform into demons; this reflects Tanjiro's humanity. An example of this is the comparison that can be appreciated between Tanjiro and the major demon Muzan; that is, the protagonist is full of kindness, suffers and is able to forgive even though he has a mission of vengeance; on the contrary, Muzan is a demon eager for power and with a single mission which is to achieve immortality at all costs, he is cruel, arrogant and does not care about the human sense.

Another point in favor of the series is that it reflects the whole Japanese culture, the houses, the clothes, the temples are examples of this; simply everything gives value to the series and takes us to a world and a time that may be unknown to many of us. In short; Demon Slayer is not a simple action anime, it is a magical adventure that makes us feel sadness, emotion and tells us that we must always be resilient. It is a story that has everything; it mixes characters that match reality with an incredible animated world. Simply put, without a doubt you will be able to enjoy this series from beginning to end without feeling like getting up from the couch; I finish watching it and I'm definitely going to enjoy the movies right away. Desde niño me ha encantado el mundo del anime y el manga; mis primeros programas disfrutados fueron Mazinger Z, Kamui y muchos otros; me encantaban especialmente los de robots y ninjas. Son animes que jamás he podido olvidar y actualmente los puedo ver; sin embargo; en este momento les ofrezco mi opinión sobre una serie que me ha causado mucha emoción y que descubrí al momento de leer un libro acerca de ella. Desde allí me animé a buscarla y verla desde su primera temporada; se trata de la serie Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, serie que me impactó en todos los sentidos por su trama, sus personajes, sus batallas, todo engloba un trabajo bien hecho y digno de ver capitulo a capítulo.

No se puede decir que el recorrido es lento, porque desde el primer capítulo la serie te atrapa en gran medida; un primer capítulo sencillamente extraordinario que me dejó pidiendo más. Lo que parecía un día normal para el personaje principal Tanjiro, se convirtió en un retorno a casa de pura muerte y desesperación. No es fácil salir de casa a realizar una actividad y después de un largo día, volver a ella y ver a toda tu familia destrozada; realmente nadie puede saber como actuar. Bueno; esto fue lo que le sucedió a Tanjiro y precisamente esa tragedia es el punto que hace explotar de emoción toda la serie.

A pesar de todo; para Tanjiro había un poco de esperanza porque su hermana Nezuko seguía con vida; sin embargo, se había convertido en demonio; eso no le importó a Tanjiro porque su única misión era la de tratar de encontrar una cura para su hermana. Esta escena llena de emoción y de entrega familiar es cautivadora y sencillamente engancha al público totalmente; la relación entre ellos es increíble, hasta el punto de ver a Nezuko luchar contra ese demonio interno para ayudar a su hermano. Por otra parte; la calidad de las animaciones son geniales, el momento de las peleas son magistrales, ver las espadas en movimiento realizando sus cortes de verdad que te dejan con los ojos abiertos; especialmente el momento cuando Tanjiro usas las respiraciones, son instantes que me han quedado grabados por el colorido que dejan en la pantalla.

Los personajes aparte de los principales; son un eje fundamental en la serie, por ejemplo Zenitsu; inicialmente pensé que era solo un un miedoso, pero a medida que avanza la serie demuestra toda su fortaleza. Es una historia que tiene de todo; mezcla personajes que concuerdan con la realidad con un mundo de animación increíble. Sencillamente, sin duda alguna podrás disfrutar de esta serie de principio a fin sin tener ganas de pararte del sillón; termino de verla y definitivamente de inmediato voy a disfrutar de las películas. When I first heard the name of the movie, I thought it was about a virus, and I started watching it with that in mind, but then I realized it's a dark comedy about a family trying to live off the backs of the rich like parasites. The rich family is portrayed as very naive in the film, but I think the reality is quite the opposite lol. Also, the conflict between the rich and the poor is well-handled. I liked that. Even while both sides respect each other, it shows how a rich person can look down on a poor person.

I really liked the film's script and the acting. Maybe it's because I wasn't expecting much from it that I enjoyed it so much, but I think it's a 9 out of 10 film and everyone should watch it. Its 8.5 out of 10 rating on IMDB is proof of its quality. I think screenplays in the film industry have been repeating themselves in recent years, and Parasite showed me that films with different screenplays still exist.
