Hello my dear Hive readers and film lovers ❤️, today I want to share a movie I watched last weekend. I was looking for a more relaxing, comedic option, and a few days ago I saw this recommendation on Netflix for the second part of Happy Gilmore. I think watching and enjoying Adam Sandler's humor would be the perfect family plan, even though most of his films are for adults. The truth is, I didn't remember much about the first part, although honestly, watching this second one without remembering the first doesn't affect it, since it's like a new beginning.
We start with Adam Sandler playing Happy, an old and famous golfer who in his time was at the top of his game, with fame, money, family, happiness, everything he wanted, until one day, a sad day, something tragic happened. His wife, his better half, and the mother of his children died because of him, at a time when, unfortunately, she was in the same direction he hit the ball. That event changed his life, causing his downfall and the loss of everything he had achieved. Sunk into alcohol, living in a lower-class neighborhood, and many years later, his children have become independent and have their responsibilities, except for his daughter, who lives with him and has the great dream of becoming a dancer, but it is a very expensive dream that Happy cannot afford.
In a very entertaining part where we see Happy struggling with his alcohol addiction and trying to return to being that famous and talented athlete to win a juicy money as a reward from a golf tournament, although things will not be so easy, his passion and desire to fulfill his daughter's dream will be in his favor to achieve it.

Synopsis:When the underworld of credit card scams unexpectedly becomes an "easy way out" for Emily (a woman with a few blemishes on her criminal record and currently burdened with debt beyond her control), she has no idea what a dangerous game she's decided to play.
The American dream is literally shattered before the viewer's eyes. That would be a simple, self-contained sentence about everything I could say about this movie, but I really need to write a full text because this is the kind of project that needs to be recognized and valued as art within the cinematic universe (even though it has its occasional flaws, but they in no way diminish the brilliance of what has been constructed here). I decided to watch it after seeing the trailer, and I confess that I really didn't expect to encounter such a genuine (and thoughtful) plot. Here is an intriguing, provocative, and at times, quite sad (especially for poorer people).
In a reality that seems, and indeed is, very negative, the protagonist of this story must deal with several companies' repeated refusals to hire her as a registered employee (due to past crimes). Furthermore, she is financially indebted due to her student loan (which she had to take out to graduate from university) and shares a small apartment with strangers. Working as someone without any formal employment (as a simple service provider for a food service company), she decides to change careers. However, it is a radical change, and one that will bring her unimaginable problems.
Emily is "innocently" introduced by a friend from work to a group of people committing coordinated illicit acts based on scams using cloned credit cards. Once inside the scheme, everything that happens (from a first, minor crime to more complex scams) distorts her entire understanding (not initially, but gradually) about everything she needs to do to earn the money she so desperately desires to honor her commitments and have a better life. What she didn't expect to happen was her immersion into an underworld of countless scams operating in the city of Los Angeles.
Alongside Youcef, an immigrant who built his life in the United States by running scams of this nature, Emily develops a physical (and emotional) attraction as they pull off new scams. However, it's Emily who spares no effort to advance further and further in this field, surprising her "tutor" in a world where crime seems to be just a "tool" to bravely fight against an oppressive system that crushes all those who try to go against its rules. Increasingly greedy, she ends up being easy prey for other scammers at times, but she quickly comes to understand how this game works.
Parallel to her life as a potential criminal, she also tries to find a path to redemption through more conventional means (experiencing another embarrassing moment during an interview, which a longtime friend of hers had arranged for her at the company where she works... and here the script makes a harsh critique of how some large companies exploit their interns). But once again, the oppressive system reminds her of her place in the food chain, where she will not rise through the traditional path (reinforcing her choice of the world of crime). A sad portrait of how this "arm" of capitalism operates within a society seduced by its promises.
The weight of the drama here is palpable, and I believe many viewers can easily relate to the reality Emily is experiencing. Beyond the drama, there's also an effective, suspense-driven approach to events that, while somewhat predictable, demonstrate that life within the criminal world can't bear fruit (and is ultimately a sneaky practice that ultimately backfires on those who choose it). There's only the corrosive (and persistent) process of massive self-destruction, "disguised" as momentary pleasures, which tend to satisfy all our most urgent needs (whether short-, medium-, or long-term).
In a powerful performance, Aubrey Plaza invites us to delve into a relentless reality, playing a character who, in her pursuit of financial freedom, ironically ends up becoming a prisoner of that desire. There's no doubt that this is, thus far, one of the best performances of her career (in dramatic forays). Alongside her, Theo Rossi embodies the immigrant dreamer in America, who sees his destiny crushed by those who are supposed to help him. Plaza and Rossi portray characters not far removed from the reality of many people (immigrants and otherwise), reinforcing a brutal and staggered reality.
John Patton Ford made his feature film directorial (and screenwriting) debut with this movie, and Emily the Criminal is a very consistent work that, within its scope, doesn't glamorize the criminal underworld in any way, avoiding the narrative clichés that could easily have been used here. The production is simple, yet sufficient to give weight and form to a sensitive (and at the same time powerful) project, without any intention of offering any moral lessons to the audience. The approach to this drama isn't complex and doesn't feature major twists, but it's effective in its realistic tone about an ordinary person who is "seduced" by a "mirage" of high destructive power.

CRÍTICA DE FILME: “Emily, A Criminosa” (2022)

Hello moviegoers how are you? How have you spent these days? Today I bring you a review of a series that has resonated a lot in recent days, and receiving many good reviews and compliments, and it is this series called We Were Liars by Prime, and here is my story with this series, I have been waiting for it for a long time, since I read the book many years ago and it has become one of my favorite books and one of the first that took me out of more typical readings to go a bit into drama / angst, I remember reading it about 6 times, each time I wanted to connect with a sadder and more distressing part hahaha 😂, I don't know why sometimes I feel like reading this type of things, but those who read fanfics will surely understand that the angst label is quite consumed😂. But getting to the point, my expectations for this series were immense, also seeing the perfect cast, with each member of the Liars looking like they're straight out of the book, and with the Old Money aesthetic the trailer suggested, so I binge-watched it and can finally tell everyone who's hesitant about watching it:
Don't waste any more time and go see it immediately! It's a diamond in the rough.

Spoiler-free review
I read this book about 6 years ago, and the truth is I'm not familiar with the original version yet, but I'm planning to reread it. I do remember there are a few differences between the two products, but they don't hinder the story from developing as it should in the slightest. In fact, the adaptation, everything they included, contributes greatly to the story and enhances the development of each character. So, it all helped to build the story of the Sinclair family and why they are the way they are. One of the biggest differences is that in the series the sisters' stories have much more relevance, which makes it even more dynamic, and we can learn even more about the strange family dynamics in which the Sinclairs are immersed. The aesthetic is beautiful, showing a beautiful palette of pastel colors, and a lot of inspiration from the style of old money and silent luxury characteristic of those millionaire environments, also the way in which they create the whole atmosphere of memories and how they play with the timelines seemed very good and well presented to me, if a super important point of the book was to create a feeling of anguish and anticipation that everything would end very badly, and it's great to see how in the series they maintained that tone. Another thing I must add is the dream cast, Gat and Candence are perfect, and the chemistry of the actors goes beyond the screen, in the same way I loved Mirren in her delicacy, and I was really looking forward to seeing Johnny since he is played by Joshep Zada (who will soon play the teenage Heymith in The Hunger Games), and his performance here is also very good, making Johnny someone charismatic and charming, but at the same time spoiled and egocentric, also standing out a lot of course Harris, who really manages to be portrayed as that almost storybook villain in this "Kingdom", but at the same time, being the center of the entire Sinclair family.

The Sinclairs are a powerful family that is part of the United States elite, they come from old money from the founding of one of the first newspapers in the country, Harris Sinclair the pratiarch, calculating and intelligent, has fought to keep it that way, in Beachwood, the beautiful paradise island of New England, The Sinclairs spend their summers, their stay there is almost like a story, a magical Kingdom where everything is perfect, like each of its members, a strong and ambitious king, a kind and peaceful Queen who complements him, and three princesses, raised to reflect the perfection of the family, and with them their children, princesses and princes, the new generation of the Sinclairs, heirs to the perfect Kingdom of Beachwood, but within these, there were the liars, the three oldest Harris grandchildren, cunning, perfectionist, and manipulative, all carrying the weight of their last name, but with a loyal squire who has joined them and keeps them grounded, who tells them that not everything is as they think, that he has removed the blindfold from their eyes, consequently when the squire begins to sow doubt and unrest in the apparently perfect Kingdom, he calls the King's attention. And the thing is that in this perfect Kingdom no one is who they say they are, everyone is keeping secrets, because that is what it is to be a Sinclair, you have to pretend to be okay, push your shoulders back, and chin up, because a Sinclair is nothing if not perfect, and failure is not allowed, or losing, and no one disturbs his kingdom, and whoever does, must be taken out of the way, be it a squire, a knight, or even the crown princes and princesses themselves.

** Among the strong points that the series has are the dramatic and intense rhythm that completely envelops you in anguish and that gives you that feeling that everything will go from bad to worse and will get quite dark, but it also has beautiful photography, with beautiful scenes, the scene of Candence and Gat kissing while meteorites fall is beautiful, and also every time the liars come together on stage, you can see how strong their bond is, and how each one intertwines with the other. I really recommend it, it is one of the best adaptations of books to the screen that I have seen, remaining faithful, but adding details that only complement the story for the better, I give it a 5/5⭐ stars, watching this series reminded me of the little ache in my heart that it gave me every time I read it, so that remains, but tell me moviegoers what do you think of this series? Have you seen it? Did you like it? **
Thank you very much for reading me! 🤭💜✨ I hope you liked the post!

Hi guys, how are you all? Hope you are very well. Friends, the movie that I am going to talk about today is the most high-budget movie in the Bollywood industry this year. A movie with a bigger budget than this has not been released this year, but it is wrong to say that it is a Bollywood industry movie; it is basically a Tamil industry movie. And if you can say the most uncrowned emperor of all the Indian movie industries in this movie, then you can say one thing: Rajinikanth. He has taken his position to such a place that if you look at movie reviews or look at his fan page, you can understand what position he has established.
Rajinikanth is one of the few individuals who are at the top of the industry in Bollywood or throughout India. There is a lot of discussion about the movie or a lot of curiosity in people's minds, so I also wanted to see it, so I watched the movie today without delay, and I thought I would share some things about this movie with my friends.
In the beginning of the movie, a port in India is shown, where a man does illegal business by leasing it in the name of his company, the government uses some extraordinary people to bring in the black goods from abroad in a dishonest way, for this he has a huge syndicate, no legal action can be taken against the syndicate because they have no evidence, some police sources work there to collect this evidence, one of the sources is caught. Goes and exposes him to all the porters who are hanged in front of them, and it is announced that there is another source of the police, if anyone can hand him over, then he will be given a reward of two crore rupees. At the beginning, the director starts his movie with a lot of suspense, and at the beginning you will have a different feeling.
Basically, this is India's highest budget movie of this year, so naturally, everything here will be a little bit different, like the artists who have worked in this movie are all very popular actors and actresses from all over India. I told you a little bit about those who played the lead character in particular. Basically, the first part of this movie is more emotional and suspenseful, and the second part is filled with great action scenes and thrillers that will impress you.
From the beginning till the end, I didn't feel at any point that the director may have left a little slack here; I was very excited from the beginning to the end of the movie. The movie was quite exciting, I can say better than what I saw in the reviews or what I heard from my friends. Since Rajinikanth is talking here, I am also a huge fan of him. I also like most of his movies. Those of you who have seen the movie will probably agree with me, and those who have not seen this movie yet, if you have seen Bollywood movies, then you can watch this movie. I hope you will like this movie.
Silence. There is no dialogue, only music accompanying the fast-paced action we see on screen. Where the hell is this place? We don't know. It's a forest. Is it a post-apocalyptic world? It seems so, but we won't know for sure. There are many things that may not have an explanation for their origin, but what matters here is what happens. The protagonist's pursuit and survival.
Azrael is the name of that beautiful blonde who seems to be very important to those armed and dangerous people, who appear to belong to some kind of sect. They are led by a strange woman who apparently communicates with strange and fearsome creatures that live deep in the forest. Who are these people? Why don't they speak? Who is Azrael? Where do she and her boyfriend come from? Do we know anything about their past? No. None of that. We have no fucking idea who Azrael is. That's beside the point. Accept that there is no answer and enjoy.
E.L. Katz is the director of the film. I have fond memories of his debut film, Cheap Thrills. It was a wild and crazy movie, with insane situations and lots of dark humor. Although he has had a long career as a screenwriter for films and series, it was with this film that he first caught my attention as a director. I recommend you look for it when you can; you'll have an uncomfortably good time. He also directed Small Crimes, an acceptable film, a crime drama that is worth watching.
With Azrael, he focuses on a genre he masters best: horror. Throughout his career, he has experience in films and series of this genre. He makes the film work, even though it doesn't answer several questions. He focuses on making us suffer in silence alongside the protagonist, who tries not to be caught and sacrificed.
Silencio.
Samara Weaving is the face of Azrael. My goodness! She is beautiful. It is truly delightful to see her face covered in blood, contrasting with her pale skin and those striking blue eyes. How could one not be captivated by that shot? Weaving is one of the current queens of horror. She won over many with The Babysitter, but cemented her status as queen of horror with Ready or Not. By the way, the sequel to Ready or Not will be released next year. So Samara Weaving running, screaming, suffering, and covered in blood is here to stay for a long time.
She carries the film on her shoulders. It is her charisma that keeps the film alive. Good choice. She seems to have been born to play these types of characters; there is something magical about her and these stories. Although I also recently saw another of her films from this year, which is not a horror film, and she also comes out on top. I'll tell you about that other film another time.
The rest of the cast is made up of actors of different nationalities, mostly European. There are Irish and French actors, but there are also mainly Danish actors. They are not well known to the general public, but I have seen them in other films. Vic Carmen Sonne has an important role. I saw this actress a few months ago in The Girl with the Needle, another film I haven't written a post about yet.
I liked Azrael. I watched it without stopping, which means it really hooked me. The makeup on the forest creatures is good, and the best part is the blood and the deaths. I really enjoy the gory scenes. I don't know what the budget for the film was, but I know it's not a big production, so you can see the good work that was done to make the most of the available resources.
I recommend it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I'll read your comments.
Samara Weaving es el rostro de Azrael. ¡Dios mio! .
Me gustó Azrael.

Hello everyone, fellow fans of good stories, I hope you're having a great time today. This time I want to share my personal opinions on an incredible animated film. I recently watched it again with my nephews and wow, I forgot to tell you how great it is... today we're going to talk about: Transformers One. Seriously, you won't believe this. Look, let's be honest, after so many years of Transformers movies, my expectations were, how can I say it?, rock bottom, especially after seeing those first trailers that looked kind of... childish? I was already preparing for the worst... but wow! They really did a great job, they made a great Transformers movie, I mean, maybe it's the best one I've seen in a while from the franchise, no joke. Remember how we always complained about the live-action movies?
Like, yeah, the explosions are cool, but who are these giant robots? Why should we care? I always felt like the humans were the main character and the Transformers were like the loud, bright background… well, forget all that, Transformers One turns that all on its head… it’s about the Transformers. Finally! We’re on Cybertron, long before the war, before Optimus was Optimus and Megatron was Megatron… there are basically no humans anywhere to be seen, and let me tell you, that is an incredible breath of fresh air, this origins movie is all about them. We meet Optimus as Orion Pax, voiced by Chris Hemsworth (who surprisingly fits him perfectly), and Megatron as D-16, played by the genius Brian Tyree Henry… people, their relationship is at the heart of the entire movie. They start out as worker robots, basically miners in this super rigid, classist Cybertronian society where only the elite can transform.
They're like brothers, true soul mates. Orion is the idealist, a bit of a rebel and dreamer who wants something more, while D-16 is more practical, he believes in the system but is super protective and ambitious in his own way... their dynamic, their connection, feels so real, you truly believe in their friendship, that dream they share of making things better... and seeing how they get along, knowing how they end up afterwards... adds a layer of tragedy that hits really hard. It's not just "good vs. bad" anymore; you understand why everything goes to hell, even if you don't agree with the decisions they make. It has that classic "brothers become enemies" vibe, of course, it's a story we've seen before in some form, but here it's told with so much heart, I didn't expect to connect emotionally with the feelings of robots, but here we are!
And the visual part? It's incredible! Forget that sometimes chaotic look of live-action movies, this animation is beautiful... it's super vibrant, full of color, expressive, the character designs are clearly distinguishable - you finally know who's who in the middle of a fight! Cybertron looks spectacular - giant, metallic, but it also has those weird but beautiful, almost organic parts... the lighting, the textures... seriously, it seems like a world that feels real, with a history, it seemed like Pixar had taken Transformers, those expressions look great, you feel the emotion, you really do. And the action scenes, they are great!
They are clear, dynamic, creative and keep you glued to your seat... there's a sequence at the beginning, in the mines, and I swear that my heart loved it, it is super well done; the action never gets you dizzy or confused, it always supports the story and on top of that it looks spectacular... the animation is by ILM, and that really shows, the way they build the world is also great. They explain the basics of Cybertron, the Primes, the Matrix of Leadership, all that vibe, but without it feeling like a boring history class or having a ton of data thrown at you... it's embedded into the story in a super natural way, you understand what's going on, what society is like, the mythology.
It even intelligently takes up some ideas from Bay's movies that weren't as popular... like the Matrix and Sentinel Prime... but here they make them make sense within this story, seeing the origins of things like Starscream's relationship with Megatron, or why it's important to transform on Cybertron... honestly, it feels much more rewarding than anything they've shown us before in cinema. Now, is it perfect? Mmm, let's see, not entirely... as I was saying, the main story of the friendship that breaks up isn't that super original, it doesn't invent anything new, the most important twists you can see coming from afar... it's quite predictable in that aspect.
And maybe, the change from D-16 to Megatron could have had a little more development, it felt kind of fast at one point, although thinking about it, it was like they were already showing you things from the beginning... it works, yes, but maybe with about 10-15 more minutes for that transition, it would have hit even harder, also, B-127 (our Bumblebee, before being Bumblebee) is basically the one who brings the humor... he's like this super restless, kind of chaotic character, voiced by Keegan-Michael Key, he made me laugh a couple of times, I won't deny it, but sometimes his energy was at most compared to the more serious tone that was being built on the other hand, it's not serious, eh, just something I noticed.
Okay, and here’s a SUPER important warning, seriously, please listen to me on this: If you have the chance, watch it in the original English version with the original voices… I’ve seen it around the internet and friends have told me they’ve seen it dubbed in Spanish, and it seems like it’s… complicated… that it’s quite distracting in places, with some voices that sound very amateurish or that simply don’t fit the character, and it totally takes you out of key moments, whether they’re emotional or pure action. The English cast – Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Hamm, even Steve Buscemi! – are all amazing and really bring these characters to life. So yeah, original language if you can… trust me on this, but really, those are just minor details, if we watch the whole movie.
This movie just works, it took my expectations that were rock-bottom low and blew them out of the water. It felt like the movie Transformers fans had been waiting for years, it has heart, it has humor that almost always works, it looks incredible, the action gets you excited, and most importantly, it treats the characters and their entire story with respect but can still be understood by anyone new to this animated universe, it’s fun, it’s surprisingly emotional, and it left me truly excited for what’s to come in this animated universe. You can clearly see that they’re building everything for something to continue, and for the first time in a long time with Transformers, I really can’t wait to see what’s next. So, my final verdict... I give Transformers One a solid 9/10.
Obviously, it’s not a super deep film festival movie, but for what it is –an animated adventure, science fiction, origin story– it more than delivers, it’s spectacular, it’s proof that you can make a movie that yes, is designed to sell toys, but that also has characters with real depth, that touches your emotional fiber and that has artistic quality… it made me feel like a kid again, excited watching giant robots that transform, but it also gave me a story with content, with substance… and well, that’s all for today, tell me if you’ve seen it and what you thought, take care! See you in the next reviews, bye!

Reality is the counterpart to Illusions, pulling us out of the ocean depths of fantasy. It uses one of its strongest tools to bring us back down to earth, metaphorically speaking: numbers. Numbers are the purest representation for assigning value to events and thus explaining, for example, the profits obtained from the sale of a product such as a movie.
In the case of the Superman franchise, we already have those cruel and real numbers that spark the debate about whether the movie, or rather James Gunn's Superman, is a success or a failure, where comparison with its beloved predecessor, Man of Steel, is inevitable.
I think James Gunn has had the opportunity to bring unity to the DC fandom, but he is not doing so. His approach is confrontational, using monkeys, haha. Therein lies the visual representation of his thinking, and I think that is an element that has prevented his Superman from achieving the desired numbers... The film has fallen short and, incidentally, been surpassed in figures by Man of Steel.
There are many ways to dress up the figures, such as streaming, fewer weeks in theaters, etc., but James Gunn's Superman needs plastic surgery to turn those figures around because every element that is proposed to favor him has its counterpart in favor of Man of Steel, such as inflation.
670 is greater than 600... That's the reality that Gunn's fans and his Superman have to face.
The purpose of this video review is to encourage you to press play so you can hear my detailed analysis of the box office performance of both films and which one beats the other in terms of profits.
I like to be objective, and just as I give you dirt to keep your feet on the ground and face reality, I'm also going to give you gold because, just as James Gunn's Superman didn't beat Zack Snyder's Man of Steel at the box office, it must also be said that James Gunn's Superman surpassed Marvel's Fantastic Four, and that's where the fight should be.
I have loved analyzing these numbers because I am an engineer, and I am happy to see this type of information, from which I conclude that James Gunn could have achieved more, but he is alienating a part of the fandom with which he should not have conflicts or antics because, in the end, they are numbers that can add up.
I dedicate each and every one of my posts and videos to my little dog named princess, we called her chiquito, she is no longer with us but from heaven she will see that her existence was valuable and the most beautiful thing that will exist in my heart and soul.
When Content Becomes Scenery- The Death of Authenticity Online and the Illusion of “Alice in Borderland” Season 3
We live in an age where articles are no longer written for people, but for algorithms. Headlines are tailored to attract clicks, paragraphs are optimized for “time on page,” and ideas are replaced with vague promises. In this digital landscape, season 3 of Alice in Borderland becomes the perfect example — not of quality content, but of how a story is packaged for consumption, not for living.
On September 25, 2025, Netflix launches the long-awaited new season. The trailer is there. The articles are there. The titles say: “The most intense season yet,” “Brutaler games,” “An original story.” But what does all this mean? No one explains. No one dares to say anything real. It’s all a series of words that sound good but mean nothing.
And it’s not the film’s fault. Alice in Borderland has the potential to be a profound exploration of identity, choice, loss. The Joker card, introduced as a central element, could be a metaphor for inner chaos, for meaninglessness, for radical freedom. But in the articles circulating online, the Joker is just “the ultimate symbol.” No one asks what it means. No one tries to understand it. Because it’s not about meaning — it’s about selling.
That’s the real problem. Online content is no longer built to provoke thought, but to provoke reaction. It’s no longer written to stay, but to circulate. And in this rush for visibility, exactly what matters is lost: the voice. The tone. The courage to say something that’s uncomfortable.
What the publications are saying — and what they’re not saying
Looking across the editorial landscape, we see a clear trend: In the rush for traffic and SEO relevance, many publications have covered Alice in Borderland season 3. But instead of offering real analysis, most have settled for recycled phrases, vague promises, and an editorial aesthetic that feels auto-generated.
Teen Vogue talks about “everything you need to know” — but what do we actually learn? The release date, the cast, the trailer. Nothing about the deeper themes, the symbolism of the Joker, the separation of Arisu and Usagi as an allegory of loss. Just a nicely packaged recap.
Analytics Insight goes along the same lines: “darker mysteries,” “deep psychological,” “spectacular scenes.” But there’s no real question. No challenge. No thought that makes you see Borderland as more than a setting for the action.
TV Insider offers a detailed plot summary, but everything is delivered like a PR synopsis. The Joker is “wild,” the games are “deadly,” and the characters are “coming back.” No one asks what it means to return to a place that destroyed you. No one explores trauma, memory, identity.
Digital Spy promises “everything you need to know” — but what it doesn’t say is more important. It doesn’t say what Arisu feels. It doesn’t say what Borderland symbolizes. It doesn’t say why the story is worth telling now, in a world that increasingly resembles a game without rules.
These publications are not to be condemned — they are just a symptom of an industry that has forgotten how to write for people. Instead of provoking thought, they provoke clicks. Instead of exploring, they summarize. And in this landscape, Alice in Borderland season 3 risks being reduced to a list title, not a narrative experience.
Maybe it's time to demand more. Not just from movies. But from those who write about them. Let's demand articles that don't just inform, but feel. That don't just describe, but live. That aren't afraid to be uncomfortable, to be honest, to be alive.
Because otherwise, all that's left is a showcase. And behind it — nothing.
I want to start by avoiding any misunderstanding. I liked and still like Solo Leveling. I finished watching it a few months ago and am waiting for the next season, which is supposed to come out next year.
Quiero empezar evitando todo tipo de malentendido. A mí me gustó y me gusta Solo Leveling.
The thing is, there's something that bothers me quite a bit. Something that, if they had avoided, I would like the series even more.
Solo Leveling is a spectacular series for several reasons. Mainly, because of its high dose of action. Its fights and battles are very well put together and animated. It's a real pleasure to watch these kinds of scenes.
I also think the enemy designs are very good. I find them creative and original. Especially Igris. So far, he's my favorite shadow.
Me parecen creativos y originales. Sobre todo Igris. Que hasta ahora, es mi sombra favorita.
To get to the point, what ended up disappointing me a little about this series was its main character. It pains me to say this because at first I really liked Sung Jin-woo, I empathized with him a lot.
The problem lies in how poorly the character development was handled. At the beginning, we were shown a shy, insecure, and weak Sung Jin-woo. After a couple of chapters, we are shown that he has become the complete opposite. He becomes brave, strong, and calm.
What I didn't like was, first of all, the extreme change and, secondly, that it happened in such a short time. Literally, this made me disconnect from the protagonist. It got to the point where I got tired of that “I can do anything” personality. I ended up getting fed up with the fact that he had to be perfect all the time.
This may seem like a minor point, and I may be being a bit picky, but I feel like they dehumanized the protagonist a lot. After he was able to cure his mother, I couldn't empathize with Sung Jinwoo anymore.
In my opinion, Sung Jinwoo's evolution should have been slower, more gradual, and somewhat justified. Give me a coherent reason for the protagonist to become cold, expressionless, and calm. It makes no sense for him to become like that after doing a couple of sit-ups and killing a couple of bugs.
You're going to hate me for saying this, but I think they completely ruined the character. They threw away all the great potential he had.
That doesn't mean I don't like leveling. It's just that if they had improved this aspect, I would like it even more. Personally, I'm going to continue watching it without thinking too much about it. I guess this isn't a deep series with character development. Not all anime can be Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

You know, watching My Hero Academia felt a lot like being thrown back into that younger version of myself—the one who believed that courage and kindness could really change the world, even if nobody else thought so. Sitting with it, I kept catching myself smiling one second, then wiping a tear the next. It’s not just “anime with superheroes”—it’s that raw ache of wanting to matter, wanting to stand tall even when your knees are shaking.
Izuku Midoriya, Deku… God, I think he got to me the most. That kid is all heart. Watching him start out powerless, yet carrying this enormous dream of becoming a hero—it almost felt like watching every insecure part of myself fight for a chance to breathe. And when All Might pointed at him and said, “You can be a hero”? I swear, I felt it in my chest like he was saying it to me. That moment has stayed with me more than I expected. It reminded me how desperately we sometimes need just one person to believe in us.
The battles are crazy, of course- the energy blasts, the quirks blowing up here and there- but what remained was not the punches alone. It was the breaks in their voices, the set of their stubborn eyes. Bakugo is so full of fire and anger that it makes me laugh but also breaks down because you could see beneath the yelling he is scared of being left behind. The mess that Todoroki has? That left me in quiet reflection after an episode, and how trauma defines us, and how it takes more guts to face beyond what it is, than it does to charge on the battlefield.
These are not the only moments though, there are also these silly, goofy scenes such as Mineta being a creep (it is an annoyance, though it somehow ties that awkward humor), Class 1-A bickering, the sports festival turning into this glorious mess of competition and friendship. Those were the moments that provided me with a feeling of comfort and togetherness, that everyone is in the same boat and will never forget their friends.
Yet the beauty of My Hero Academia is in its capacity to illustrate failure in such a humane manner that it is hard to realize it is not actually a human story. Deku fractures bones, falls, weeps--still, he does not give up. Seeing him hobble along after it made me remember that being strong does not mean that you never fall, it means that no matter how broken you are, you will continue to walk. And the way he stands up for people when he does not even think he can win? This touched me more than speeches about courage can ever touch me
As I got further into the story, I did not just watch the characters, but it seemed that I was growing with them. All the lessons on fear, all the flicker of hope, all the cracks in their armors--it was almost as though it was personal. As the show was saying, you may be scared. However, you can do more than you believe.
And honestly? It left me believing, in some quiet corner of myself, that even if I don’t have a “quirk,” maybe I’ve got something just as powerful.

“What’s One Piece?” asked my mom after watching some youtube videos on the latest country’s craze on One Piece.
In Indonesia, some people raise the One Piece Flag, that black flag with skull and straw hat on it. This pirate emblem has become some type of symbol to protest the government. Although I failed to see how it could relate to the resistance, even my mom was curious enough about it.
Rather than watching the anime, I proposed to my mom that we watch the Netflix adaption One Piece (2023) . While I watched parts of it a long time ago, I was up to refresh the story of Monkey D Luffy and his ambition to become the King of The Pirates and trying to see why the symbolism came to be and why a lot of young people in the country display the One Piece flag.
The Netflix adaptation gives quite a bit of background on why Luffy became who he is. It serves well as an introduction especially for those who never follow this famous franchise. For my mom who eventually watched the series, she eventually learned about some of the main characters in the series.
Even for me, it was the first time watching the live action. To me, Luffy itself is a bit of a complex character. You know, at first I thought he was just a kid with a harsh life and without a notable background but later in the series, you can see his family lineage that he’s connected through notable admirals like Garp. However, it seems like despite such lineage, he even went against his grandfather who wanted him to work for the marine and has this ultimate goal to find that One Piece.
As of now, that One Piece hasn’t been found yet and from what I know, even the story is on-going and who knows if One Piece is not really a thing but merely symbolic.
The netflix adaption gives me the impression it was made with quite a bit of a high budget. The graphic and visual were aesthetically pleasing. For some reason, it was the colors that were striking. But to my mom and I, we cared more about the story and finding out why it became a symbol of critique in the country.
When we unveiled layers of it, there were a couple intriguing to us. There’s this idea of generalization by the marine that all pirates must be terminated but that’s not the whole truth. There are pirates that can be considered “good” even though the morality of the pirates can be something that is a little gray. From what I know, Luffy works within some code of conduct. He cares about his crew, he has this compass within him that actually guides his action. Even to me, the show was written in an interesting way. By that I mean, the character is not the typical hero that we tend to get in series/animation. There’s inherent flaws about it and the struggles to be in places where bad pirates are the norm.
But to connect it to the whole ruckus in the country, some people believed that the plot is similar to what’s been happening in the country.
Perhaps there's a connection between the two but perhaps not. The One Piece universe is too big and most importantly, I applaud the writer for writing such a masterpiece. If you haven't watched the live action, I definitely suggest that you should!
