Giving this theme thing another try. nineties Friday look at 1993 film Demolition Man.

When Demolition Man dropped in 1993, it looked like just another ridiculous Stallone action movie — explosions, cheesy one-liners, and a futuristic world that felt more like parody than prediction. But the crazy part is, under all that campy sci-fi chaos, it actually nailed some weirdly accurate predictions about where society was headed. Especially when it comes to language, censorship, and the way we keep creating more and more rules to govern behavior.

In the movie, swearing is literally outlawed. Say a curse word, and this little wall machine immediately spits out a fine. It’s played for laughs — Stallone’s character, John Spartan, keeps racking up tickets just for speaking like a normal 1990s dude — but the deeper idea behind that joke hits different now. Back then it was satire. Today, it feels eerily familiar. Think about it — online platforms constantly monitor and flag “offensive” language, videos get demonetized for cursing, and public figures have to walk on eggshells with every word. We’re not getting fined by a robot (yet), but the pressure to self-censor is very real.

Even the rest of the society in Demolition Man is scarily sterile. No physical contact, no spicy food, no “negativity.” It’s a future that values peace and order so much that it’s stripped away all the messy, emotional, human parts of life. And the people living in it don’t even question it — they just adapt. It’s hard not to draw parallels to our current world, where conformity is often rewarded, and breaking from the script — even a little — can get you in trouble.

And then there’s the whole “three seashells” thing. Nobody knows how it works, but everybody acts like it’s perfectly normal. That’s the joke — but it’s also the point. Demolition Man nailed the absurdity of blindly following rules we don’t really understand, just because they’re presented as the “right” way to do things. It’s not just a bathroom gag — it’s a metaphor for how bureaucratic and overly sanitized things can become when comfort and control are the highest priorities.

The film wasn’t saying we should be reckless or offensive just for the hell of it. It was asking us to think about balance. There’s a difference between creating a safe, respectful world and building a society so afraid of disruption that it kills creativity, honesty, and individuality. Demolition Man might’ve looked ridiculous in the ‘90s, but looking back, it understood something about the future that a lot of serious movies didn’t.

So yeah, maybe it’s time to give it another watch — not just for the action or the Taco Bell jokes, but to ask ourselves: how close are we to becoming that perfectly calm, totally boring, overly censored version of the future?

Final Destination

An innovative idea for its time (2000) in the teen thriller genre, which became a big success and spawned several sequels—some better, some worse. Meanwhile, this movie made us afraid of everything 🤣🤣, even if we didn’t have any phobias before.

The performances aren’t outstanding, though that’s not really the point in a movie like this. It features some cool death scenes, and the fact that the "villain" is Death itself definitely contributed to the film’s success. Some of the death scenes aren’t very convincing, but they’re entertaining and tense at the same time.

At times it borders on the supernatural, but it never stops being fun—and never boring.

Final Destination Bloodlines

Haunted by a violent, recurring nightmare, college student Stephanie sets out to find the one person who can break the vicious cycle and save her family from an inevitable, horrific fate. This is the sixth installment in this franchise, and I didn’t expect to be saying this… It’s much better than I thought! (Given the context and expectations of the franchise, of course 😅)

• First of all, the script is quite ambitious and engaging, which caught me by surprise.

• Directing-wise, it’s also pretty solid.

• The deaths—which are the main draw—are, for the most part, quite imaginative and many of them… very bloody.

• Most of the cast delivers a good performance.

• The opening scene is very good, visually well-crafted, and makes you care about the characters.

• A nice wink to Tony Todd’s final appearance.

• It’s so entertaining that time just flies by.

• It sticks to the usual formula of the previous films but, while not groundbreaking, it brings something fresh for the younger generation.

• Great soundtrack.

• The dark humor is very much present.

• Good pacing.

• There’s suspense and tension in several scenes.

• If you had any phobias, you’ll probably walk away with a few more after this film 😅

• There’s one death scene that I enjoyed way too much 🤣

• It has its share of twists.

• Some of the performances aren’t that great.

• It’s not particularly scary, but I don’t think that’s the point of this kind of movie anyway.

• It uses some genre clichés and feels a bit uneven in places.

• The ending is predictable, but it doesn’t really detract from the overall experience.

The cancellation of Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS) in 1969 remains the most traumatic event in the history of the Star Trek franchise for its fans. While the decision was not entirely unexpected—poor ratings, a low budget, and NBC’s mismanagement of Season 3 had already signaled the end of the show’s run—the way the series was abruptly terminated left many fans feeling humiliated. The final episode, Turnabout Intruder, was not a traditional season or series finale, and as a result, fans lacked the closure that would have come with a proper ending. This absence of resolution, combined with the episode’s controversial content and its release as the last of TOS, has cemented its reputation as one of the worst episodes in the entire Star Trek canon.

The plot of Turnabout Intruder begins with the USS Enterprise arriving to rescue two surviving members of an archaeological expedition on the planet Camus II. The survivors, Dr. Janice Lester (played by Sandra Smith) and Dr. Arthur Coleman (played by Harry Landers), had been investigating the ruins of an alien civilisation. Lester, a former Starfleet Academy student and Kirk’s ex-girlfriend, had left Starfleet over alleged inability to command a starship. She and Coleman, convinced that they could prove Lester's worth, devised a plan to exploit a mind-swapping machine, which would allow Lester to assume Kirk’s body while Kirk is trapped in Lester’s. Coleman, acting as a double agent, ensures that no one notices the switch. When Lester takes over the Enterprise, she proves to be an incompetent and unhinged leader. Initially, the crew is unaware that Kirk is trapped in Lester’s body, but Spock, through a mind meld, uncovers the deception. However, his attempt to confront the impostor leads to charges of mutiny, with Lester threatening to have mutrineers executed.

The episode’s premise is rooted in the mind-swapping concept, a trope that had been used in earlier episodes like The Enemy Within, where Kirk is possessed by his evil alter ego. Here, the mind-swapping is a device to allow Kirk to act out of character, a narrative choice that was intended to showcase William Shatner’s acting skills.

The script, written by Arthur Singer based on a story by Gene Roddenberry, is notable for its use of the mind-swapping premise, which, while not entirely original, is a recurring device in TOS. However, the episode’s most controversial element is the gender swap. Kirk, a hypermasculine captain, is forced into a female body, and Lester, now in Kirk’s body, is a woman who is barred from becoming a starship captain. Despite its negative reputation, Turnabout Intruder is not without its merits. One of the ground-breaking chapters in science fiction history deserved much better ending.

Hello, Hivians, and welcome to another movie review from me. Last Saturday, in an attempt to relax as my doctor ordered , I decided to hop on the Paramount Plus new crime drama series, Mobland. I think the series kicks off in the early part of May, but I am not quite sure. Either way, I have been one of the long-awaited fans of this series, although I had to tell myself, just wait until all the episodes are out so you can binge the entire season, still I must say it was quite hard for me as I never been the person with the strength to undergo a weekly suspense while waiting a whole week for another episode.

After all ten episodes were dropped, it was go time. The series is focused on the Irish crime family known as the Harrigans, and they are set to destroy one another while still battling against a rival family, the Stevensons.

Down to the main point in the title

It takes one person to bring it down.

There is a popular adage that talks about how you can spend your lifetime building an empire of wealth, and it only takes an untrained child to squander it all in one night. Well, that is the case in this movie, but it wasn't a child but an elderly woman in the person of Mrs Harrigan.

Now you get a glimpse of what a woman she is. This ideology about life is how she successfully built her husband and their family into one of the most powerful organized crime families in London. Then things changed when her husband got comfortable with his wealth and power. She no longer gets the adrenaline rush that comes with war against another family for territory or new business, as her husband is only focused on his portfolio, fishing, and how to make more money by bringing in new business.

If this is not enough to get you going with the series, then watch out for Tom Hardy and how he cleans up the Harrigan family mess. Tom plays Harry, a fixer for the Harrigan family, but he is way too smart for all this family drama. While the Harrigans are busy belittling one another, Harry is being approached by powerful people who want to make a move on the Harrigans and kick them out of business for good.

Go watch Mobland if you haven't already. Guy Ritchie is the best director when it comes to organized crime drama series.

Yeah, it’s one of those series where you’re done with it, and you don’t know what to say. Not in a bad way. More like in a “Well...that happened” way. I’ve been following Ginny and Georgia since the first season, and I’ve loved every experience. It’s a series, which I’m guessing from the look of things will most likely have a continuation, so there’s not too much to say about it till you’ve gotten to the end. But I got to the end of the third season today, so I’ll just leave a few words for the characters.

Georgia

I love her to the moon and back. She has made terrible decisions, and somehow managed to get out of them, until this season, at least. She may be a lying, manipulative, murderer, but she loves her kids to death, and will do anything for them. So, that has to count for something. One of my friends talked about the fact that she managed to make all the men in her life friends. If anything, I’d like to take a page out of her book when it comes to men, but coughs coughs, who said I need it? Lol.

Ginny

Hmmmm, Ginny should be a rant session all on her own. And maybe, if it were in Season 2, I would have done a well deserved rant, but thankfully, they must have noticed how hard we were beginning to hate on her, and made her less annoying. I know she had a rough childhood. I know no 16 year old should have to go through that. But she was deeply unfair to the people who loved her, especially her Mom. Anyway, that was in Season 2, and thankfully, only a bit of this season. Actually nearly liked her this season. Nearly.

Paul

I don’t know. I want to be mad at him. I want to hate on him so bad for leaving Georgia at her lowest, but honestly, I don’t have the heart to. Georgia came into his life like a wrecking ball, and left smithereens and rubbles in her place. He’s such a sweet guy, and would have made an amazing step dad to Ginny and Georgia. It’s sad that that couldn’t be the case. Really nice guy, Paul.

Austin

Poor baby was just a victim in all of these. He’s so adorable, he didn’t deserve all the trauma he’s had to go through. I don’t know what’s up with that ending, though. Are the script writers trying to introduce a violent streak in him, or maybe imply that he’ll become like his dad. That would be not nice. I almost want to scream. Leave that poor kid alone!!! But, I guess I have no choice but to swallow whatever gets introduced in the next season.

Ginny’s Friends (Maxine and the Lot)

Well, well, well .... Where do we start guys. If it isn’t the chaotic group. I don’t know why movies these days are trying hard to ruin friendships for me. Because why were all these girls so terrible. Maxine was done dirty in this season. There was no reason her friends turned on her like this, while Norah who said mean things and even acted worse to Ginny was off the hook. Abby should pick a struggle, honestly. She’s too much for me, and I don’t know why people are loving her. I dislike mean girls, sorry.

And then, I’m sorry, but Marcus’ sad boy aesthetic is too much for me. And I don’t quite like his acting. Maybe I’m the one wrong, but I’m sure someone else could portray his role better, but depression is a big deal, so I’m not against him cause of that. I just don’t like his acting.

Who else? I like Joe. Really really really like Joe. But that’s a story for another day. I like Georgie with Paul, but Joeeeee.... Okay, I’ll stop fangirling.

Anyway, that’s all for Ginny and Georgia. It’s a nice series, and I would definitely see Season 4, any year they decide to release it.

El remake de Viernes 13 cuando salió en su momento me acuerdo que fue algo polémico ya que es una de las franquicias más queridas en especial porque esta película estaba dirigida por Michael Bay que ya sabemos que viene dirigido la trilogía de Transformers, Yo sé que nada más por nombrarles el director más de uno no le daría una oportunidad pero debo decir que este remake es bastante decente incluso Me atrevo a decir que es una lástima que no se le haya extendido de mejor manera hacia una trilogía porque tenía muchísimo potencial.

The remake of Friday the 13th when it came out at the time I remember it was somewhat controversial as it is one of the most beloved franchises especially because this film was directed by Michael Bay who we already know that he directed the Transformers trilogy, I know that just by naming the director more than one would not give it a chance but I must say that this remake is pretty decent even I dare to say that it is a pity that it has not been extended in a better way to a trilogy because it had a lot of potential.

También va a decir que es un poco de trampa porque la película La logré ver en cines en su momento cuando salió y ahora después de un par de años que la vuelvo a ver la verdad me sorprende que la calidad no ha decaído para nada Es verdad que las actuaciones son bastante mediocres pero creo que esto es parte de cada una de las películas de Viernes 13 incluso es como parte de su Encanto con ese ligero estilo de película de terror serie b y la verdad es que esta película le queda bastante bien La mayor diferencia mi parecer es que Jason es completamente implacable es un cazador casi que nato a la hora de destripar y matar a cada una de sus víctimas, en las anteriores también era así pero ahora es mucho más inteligente y casi que imparable lo cual si le da un aire mucho más tenebroso y entre comillas realista.

The biggest difference in my opinion is that Jason is completely relentless, he is almost a born hunter when it comes to disembowel and kill each of his victims, In the previous ones he was also like that but now he is much more intelligent and almost unstoppable which gives him a much more sinister and realistic air.

As a newcomer to the anime world, I have watched a few anime, and I'm glad I have only watched the best ones, as my niece is my guide so far. Now, I have only watched high-quality anime. I'm so happy that I got introduced to the world of anime. For non-anime fans, I would suggest they watch this wonderful movie, Princess Mononoke. It's a precious film, and I want people to start their journey by watching this anime movie. I feel it's good for beginners; this anime will make people feel the need to watch more anime.

What makes this movie special? It's because of Studio Ghibli; you can never say that they have done any bad work. As far as I have seen, everything has been mesmerizing, and there are many more out there for me to try, but for now, I'm truly impressed with Princess Mononoke. Look at the amazing trailer; the visuals are as mesmerizing as always. I feel that even if it's English dubbed, it sounds really good. I also prefer English dubbing because I'm not good at reading subtitles. However, I enjoy listening to Japanese; it feels different when it's in the original voice.

Plot

A young boy, Ashitaka, is the prince of the Emishi tribe. One day, the village was attacked by a demon boar called Nago. The prince wanted to save the people of the village, so he took his arrow to stop the demon boar, but he could not do it peacefully. He was warned not to kill the boar because then he would be cursed, but he could not bear to see the village being destroyed, so he had to shoot the arrow at the demon boar, and it was killed instantly.

However, while trying to finish off the boar, he injured himself, and his right arm became cursed. The villagers felt bad for him, but they didn't want to bring upon bad omens for the village, so Ashitaka had to cut his long hair and evacuate the village. He did what he felt was best for the people of the village; he left his own village and went to another place. He set out on a journey to find a way to lift the curse.

On his way westward, he met a monk named Jigo, who approached Ashitaka and directed him towards Irontown. He also claimed that Ashitaka might find help there for his curse. Jigo also mentioned the Great Forest Spirit. Ashitaka truly wanted his curse to go away, so for some time, he thought that he could lift his curse by meeting the Great Forest Spirit.

He visited Irontown, where he met Lady Eboshi, the leader of Irontown. He also learned about Princess Mononoke, who lives with the wolf goddess Moro and her wolf pack. The people of Irontown, along with Lady Eboshi, think that the forest and its inhabitants are obstacles to the town's survival. Princess Mononoke is against the villagers, and they are ready to battle each other. Lady Eboshi has promised Jigo to give him the head of the Great Forest Spirit, so they are pursuing a war for that.

On the other hand, there is another party trying to take over Irontown for their own benefit. The samurai's name is Lord Asano, and he wants to conquer Irontown.

The protagonist in the movie is exactly the example of a true gentleman and everyone should be like that. This anime movie has different stories and different point of views of each characters, every character has paid off their role perfectly. There was no gap in anything it just felt completed. No matter what everyone else is going to say this anime movie is going to remain as my favourite and people who are new to anime world they would definitely love this anime and have the eager to watch the animes.

When I watched this movie for the first time I was completely taken by surprise because it's too good. Hayao Miyazaki is an amazing story teller because his movies deals with human emotions naturally. It is truly a landmark in the world of animation. If you show this anime to someone who won't watch anime no matter what and they will absolutely like it no doubt. If I talk about the background music then it was a great experience each scene felt smooth with the music because it was kind of relaxing me a lot. The visuals are amazing as always there's no complain, one thing I have always liked that the romance in the anime never felt forced or there was no lustful scenes it was sweet and natural.

Nous avons fait un saut sur Prime Video sans avoir d'idée préalable de ce que nous comptions regarder. En voyant ce film australien dans le catalogue, nous nous sommes dit "bah, pourquoi pas, ça a l'air pour jeunes ados, voire carrément pour enfants, mais il ne dure qu'1h30, cela nous distraira".

Synopsis :

Peter et Verity sont frère et sœur et pensent passer des vacances dans une maison héritée par leur père, où leurs parents profiteraient de leur séjour pour ranger et nettoyer la demeure. En fait, le papa a perdu son boulot et ils ne peuvent plus honorer leur loyer en ville. La maman, pour remonter le moral de ses enfants, offre une vieille boussole à Peter, héritée de son grand-père et qu'il met directement autour de son cou, en pendentif. Peter est un enfant neuro-atypique, semble-t-il. Peter fait des rêves bizarres et a quelques hallucinations. Quand Verity paraît vivre la même chose que lui, ils tombent tous les 2, dans les sous-sols de la maison et, ensuite, + profondément en zone souterraine. Commence alors une drôle d'aventure.

Mon avis :

C'est + pour enfants que pour ados. Nous avons regardé jusqu'au bout, au cas où une belle surprise nous attendait. Mais non. Il y a plusieurs incohérences, ça arrive, je ne reviens pas sur des exemples comme ça, mais certaines choses étaient présentées comme normales alors qu'elles n'étaient pas du tout normales. Quand on s'adresse à un public d'enfants, je trouve qu'il faut éviter de faire croire qu'on peut faire tout et n'importe quoi, qu'il s'agisse de danger ou de respect.

Il n'y avait pas d'acteur connu et je ne connaissais pas le dragon ni les pangolins.

Si vous l'avez vu, n'hésitez pas à me dire ce que vous en avez pensé. Si vous ne l'avez pas vu, vous n'avez rien raté.

En el 2022, la franquicia de "Predator" revivió de una manera inesperada con el estreno de "PREY", un film que relató el enfrentamiento entre un salvaje y vil cazador alienígena vs una joven mujer perteneciente a la tribu Comanche; ese film dirigido por Dan Trachtenberg tomó por sorpresa a tanto fieles fans como a un nuevo público que descubrió está gran franquicia de ciencia ficción que se une muy bien con otros géneros como el terror y la acción; ahora después de tres años, dos nuevas producciones llegan para ampliar lo que considero una nueva etapa dentro de esta franquicia, el primero es un film animado, "Predator: Killer of Killers", que resalta tres historias en épocas diferentes y en dónde tres personajes deberán enfrentar no solamente guerras junto a sus traumas, sino a tres cazadores que no son de este mundo.

Nuevamente, Dan Trachtenberg está completamente decidido a expandir esta famosa franquicia sin cambiar mucho de su historia; personalmente esa es mi percepción tanto de lo que fue PREY, así como fue la primera mitad de este nuevo film en dónde las historias de los nuevos tres personajes tienen similitudes así como diferencias las cuales serán sus virtudes para enfrentar a la poderosa raza alienígena de cazadores conocidos como "Yautja"; como dije anteriormente, los nulos cambios o el parecido en su historia al anterior film de la franquicia solamente funciona al ser todo parte de un plan en la expansión de esta historia, en eso estoy convencido de que Trachtenberg junto a Micho Robert Rutare quien escribió el guion, saben cómo hacer funcionar esta corta historia y desarrollar una buena historia con motivos especiales para sobrevivir a una batalla dispar.

Algunas veces cuando observamos producciones antológicas terminados (claramente) nos enfocados en los episodios que nos gusta, pero en este caso, las tres historias son entretenidas, divertidas, emocionantes y con temas que son correctamente desarrollos lo cual aprecié mucho porque al final esto no es solamente sobre muertes épicas y diseños impresionantes; el tema al que hago referencia es sobre lo familiar, esto es algo que está muy presente en las tres historias y que se convierte en el motivo principal para sobrevivir, para ser fuerte, inteligente, lo cual se convierte en la gran virtud de los que erróneamente consideran como presa.

Once again, Dan Trachtenberg is determined to expand this famous franchise without changing much of its story. Personally, that's my perception of both PREY and the first half of this new film, where the stories of the three new characters have similarities as well as differences, which will be their strengths in facing the powerful alien race of hunters known as " Yautja." As I said before, the lack of changes or the similarity in its story to the previous film in the franchise only works because it is all part of a plan to expand this story. I am convinced that Trachtenberg, along with Micho Robert Rutare, who wrote the script, know how to make this short story work and develop a good story with special motives for surviving an uneven battle.

Sometimes when we watch anthology productions, we (clearly) focus on the episodes we like, but in this case, all three stories are entertaining, fun, exciting, and with themes that are well developed, which I really appreciated because in the end, this isn't just about epic deaths and impressive designs; the theme I'm referring to is about family, something that is very present in all three stories and becomes the main reason to survive, to be strong and intelligent, which becomes the great virtue of those who are mistakenly considered prey.

Creo que películas como "Spider-man Into The Spider-Verse", así como la secuela, junto a otras películas como "El Gato con Botas 2" o la "Transformers One" , han demostrado que la animación y el estilo para realizarlas es sumamente importante en esta época para generar un impacto positivo en la audiencia; justamente el estilo de animación es muy relevante para "Killer of Killers" porque debería sentirse con mucha fuerza y actitud, ya que está historia contiene imágenes violentas por como son cada uno de los personajes; en esta producción animada, primera de la franquicia se utilizó "Unreal Engine", un estilo de animación en 3D que mayormente se usa en videojuegos, pero también se ha usado en anterioridad para series de TV, en especial la serie original de Netflix conocida como "Arcane", la cual influyó enormemente en los diseños de los personajes del film, así como el de las escenografías en dónde se desarrollan las historias, siendo el que más me ha gustado el que ocurre en la Japón feudal en dónde todos es muy detallista en la recreación de esa época, así como el diseño del Depredador que fue un gran rival a derrotar.

I believe that films such as "Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse", as well as its sequel, along with other films such as "Puss in Boots 2" and "Transformers One", have demonstrated that animation and the style used to create it are extremely important in this day and age in order to have a positive impact on the audience. The animation style is particularly relevant to "Killer of Killers" because it should feel very powerful and bold, as the story contains violent images due to the nature of each of the characters. This animated production, the first in the franchise, used "Unreal Engine," a 3D animation style that is mostly used in video games, but has also been used previously for TV series, especially the original Netflix series known as "Arcane," which greatly influenced the character designs in the film, as well as the sets where the stories unfold. My favorite is the one set in feudal Japan, where everything is very detailed in the recreation of that era, as well as the design of the Predator, who was a great rival to defeat.

Predator: Killer of Killers es una completa genialidad y un gran ejemplo en como se puede generar una producción de calidad que funciona como complemento para el desarrollo de una franquicia; la decisión de usar la animación para hacer crecer aún más está franquicia, así como desarrollar esta nueva etapa fue lo mejor que hicieron, las posibilidades de diseñar lugares, personajes y los combates es lo que más aprecio de esta película que como dije anteriormente no cambia el cómo se desarrolla esta historia, pero si abre las puertas a posibilidades de descubrir a nuevos guerreros, tanto a los que son considerados como presas y por supuesto a los cazadores y mi única crítica sobre esta película es las expectativas que tengo con respecto a "Badlands" que será estrenada en octubre y solo espero que sea igual de buen film como lo fue tanto PREY como este nuevo film.

Predator: Killer of Killers It's a completely brilliant film and a great example of how to create a quality production that complements the development of a franchise. The decision to use animation to further grow this franchise and develop this new stage was the best thing they could have done. The possibilities for designing locations, characters, and combat are what I appreciate most about this film, which, as I said before, does not change how the story unfolds, but it does open the door to the possibility of discovering new warriors, both those who are considered prey and, of course, the hunters. My only criticism of this film is the expectations I have for "Badlands," which will be released in October, and I just hope it's as good a film as both PREY and this new film were.
