¿estamos a salvo?

    **Fuente**

    **Fuente**

Esa frase simplemente me marcó.

    ENGLISH VERSION

Once again I find myself lurking around this incredible community of #MoviesAndTVShows. And how can I not do it, if I can capture ideas of something that I like to do so much, which is nothing more than watching movies and series, to give you my opinion about one that I liked and recommend it to the 💯%.

This time it is the turn of a movie that from the first time I saw it, marked me for several reasons and for the depth that surrounds the plot that it captivated me. I am talking about Arrival. Here I share with you my opinion, but before I start I inform you that it may contain some spoilers, since the movie is from 2016 and many of you must have seen it.

    **Source**

The first thing that caught my attention was that it was a science fiction film starring the award-winning Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. And being a movie about aliens or an alien invasion, I immediately want to see it.

But this particular movie has something different from the ones I've seen, which are usually about apocalyptic confrontations that threaten the earth, either to invade it or simply destroy it.

    **Source**

This film is in charge of presenting the aliens differently. Rather as allies who seek to save the people living on earth, since according to these little friends, in a few million years they will need to contact humans again for help.

So basically the film is presented as an alien invasion that is not quite an invasion, but of interdimensional beings who rather seek to bring union and prosperity to a civilization like ours that is usually so chaotic and extremist.

    **Source**

It is already quite captivating to present this idea of what would happen if extraterrestrials came to "save us"? I don't think any director has ever dared to present this theme. For me, it was exciting to see the development of this point of view.

In addition to showing it also from a familiar approach, so to speak, since the protagonist, has the first contact with the aliens, her life changes, and as the plot progresses, she begins to experience these "visions" as if they were memories or Deja Vu.

    **Source**

Although she does not quite understand what is going on, she is determined to interpret and understand these aliens who, from what can be observed, are shaped like giant seven-legged octopuses that cannot be fully detailed.

The performance of Amy Adams, was spectacular and I identified with her performance. Having to be faced with the situation of presenting yourself to beings from other planets, not knowing what to expect, also made me ask myself questions when I saw these scenes, will they be aggressive? what do they want? what are they looking for? will they attack humanity? are we safe?

    **Source**

But what grabbed me and marked my heart about this movie was the fact that what if you could know your future? this point of view that most people in the world would like to know. What if you had the power and the opportunity to see your life in retrospect, of your future? without being able to do anything to change the circumstances developed in it, just live it.

Even if the outcome of your life is not what you expect from it, even if you are presented with situations that you want to change at all costs but you are sure that you will not be able to do so, would you still want to know your future, would you be able to accept it, and above all, to live it and experience it, would it be worth it for you?

    **Source**

It made me question my life at the time I first saw the film and it also makes me ask myself that same question every time I watch it because I have seen it several times, as it is one of my favorite films. They are movies that make you think and have a deep background.

When I saw it at the time and now that I saw it again recently, I maintain my opinion and support the decision of the protagonist:

Despite knowing the journey and where it takes us... I embrace it. And I welcome every moment.

    **Source**

That phrase simply marked me. It is like a slap in the face to react and realize that you are doing what you have to do in your life to be where you are and to achieve your dreams without fear of experiencing unpleasant situations.

Because the end that is what life is all about, a series of accumulated experiences that for better or for worse allow us to perceive, feel, appreciate, observe, and at the end of the day live and share with the people we love the most. It is what makes us truly human.

To end this post, I want to leave you my rating of the movie. I give it a rating of 9/10 points or 4.5 stars out of 5. Both for the soundtrack used, the performances, and the story developed in it. So there it is:

Well, dear readers, this is how far I leave you with my opinion about Arrival. I would like to know if you have already seen it or if you want to see it after reading it. The Arrival: Will the aliens come in peace? Between Science Fiction and Emotional Drama

Amy Adams is an actress that over time and with her different works, has managed to catch my attention. She has a way of interpreting that somehow makes me connect a lot with the character and I manage to empathize with her. So, my friends from Movies & TV Shows, today I bring you a production that left me speechless, because I did not expect to see Amy in a story like this. It's "The Arrival ", a 2016 sci-fi movie that at least for me, got me quite caught. It is available on Netflix (I watched it on Netflix Argentina).

Now in Wikipedia, I can see that it had several award nominations, among them, it was nominated to the Oscar Awards as Best Picture, and the truth is that it is quite coherent why it had that opportunity.

    Plot

Louise (Amy Adams) is a renowned linguist who is asked to perform an interpretation task following the arrival of spaceships to different parts of the earth. She asks to be able to get closer to those beings to be able to do her job better, and although at first they tell her that this is impossible, they quickly have to accept her into the team in charge of making direct contact with these extraterrestrials.

Louise begins to experiment with different forms of communication, until she finally discovers that drawing and interpreting them is the most effective way to communicate (something like the game "Say it with mime"), so thanks to this technique, they begin to translate these beings, which humans call heptapods in the movie. They are very similar to an octopus, but huge, and they move in a white cloud-like environment.

The only person who trusts them is Louise, because in their vocabulary she manages to see that there is a message of peace, as well as in their gestures, which although unknown and unclear, are captured very well by the linguist. She is joined by Ian, a physicist who also begins to interpret these beings in a more peaceful way.

But this is not all. As the encounter and translation goes on, Louise begins to have flashes of her life, of a life seemingly already lived and past- possible spoiler alert- but this begins to be called into question, although it is not until the end of the series that one can determine exactly what is going on.

    Trama

What does this production communicate to us?

This film comes to tell us that first, many times we underestimate professionals because of their techniques, beliefs or even their gender, but in the end we realize that a good professional is made neither by that nor by the place where they studied, but by their passion for their work. This is what we see in Louise, not only a person with a lot of knowledge, but also someone who is willing to risk her life because she believes in the purpose of her work for the Common Good.

It also speaks to us a lot about trust, about understanding that just because there is an other as different as in this case an extraterrestrial, it does not mean that this is a threat. All beings can coexist, and although precautions are necessary, so is the flow of events. In this case, while all the authorities of the world believe that aliens are coming to start a war, Louise has that thread of hope that this is not so.

    Spoiler alert

The film leaves in the ending a very beautiful message of acceptance and choice. Somehow Louse begins to have an unpleasant future revealed to her because of a particular event, but at the same time in that process, she can see and feel the many moments of bliss that life has, even if there is also pain. And somehow, having seen the future, she can choose whether to walk it or to follow another path, and she chooses what she sees, based on the love that scenario offers.

This is a very beautiful moment, which speaks to us of acceptance, contentment, understanding, because she is able to embrace her reality and her future, with the good and the bad that it offers.

    Alerta spoiler

    Opinion

I liked the movie very much. With the ending I cried with joy, which doesn't usually happen to me with movies.

It is a strange production in the same way, because it mixes total Science Fiction with very deep and very human messages. This is something I liked. While most Science Fiction movies cross this genre with Action, The Arrival brings us something very different, a very compassionate look to other beings, it is a very human approach to a situation that by far exceeds the limits of everyday life.

This, although I liked it a lot, as it was absolutely unexpected, also led me to a mixed opinion closer to the end of the film, as it ended up being too personal.

Something that seemed, in the plot, to be global in scope, ends up coming exclusively to Louise, and she becomes the channel of communication for this new language brought to Planet Earth by the heptopods. Not that this is necessarily bad, but I kind of expected something else. Still, it's a very nice message, because of course it ends up having global reach in the end, but only using a communicator as a link.

I recommend it, it is a very different production, it is emotional and at the same time generates a certain constant intrigue. For its originality and excellent performance of its actors, go ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 5.

One of the things that I sometimes believe in is that there are some years that are evidently better than others, this in all contexts of life, just in 2016 I don't think I have gotten much closer to cinema, something that is sad evidently for a person like me who likes this art form very much.

I say this after recently having seen the movie "Arrival" (the arrival) a science fiction film in which things totally changed to what it always is, since we are used to that the invasion of aliens is something terrible and also that these beings usually come to destroy or possess the planet on which we live. Here humans show how terrible they can be.

So the approach of this film is a kind of investigation of the language to be able to communicate with these other beings; which I found quite interesting, because of its complexity and also complemented with science. So, in this film, a linguistic expert is the center of this story to get to know the true intention of the visitors.

Undoubtedly the effects of the film are quite striking, well done, and interestingly in this film shows how already in that year 2016 one of the human defenses is the use of "vaccines" that allow people to create defenses against possible external agents, ironic, right?

Similarly as a funny point before the approach of the coordinated invasion of these beings on earth, they show the location of specific points in the world and one of the points is "Venezuela", this caused me some fun because it seems that the only evil missing on this earth was an invasion of aliens and ironically could be something good in all the bad things that the bad communist government has left us.

But well, focusing again on the movie I must also say that I thought the cast of the movie was great because we can see "Amy Adams" and "Jeremy Renner" together, in perfect harmony and this time in different roles than we are used to see them.

The linguist professor "Louise Banks", brings a great idea to discuss and champion the idea that the most important thing between people, and even between other beings, is to be able to understand each other, communication and perhaps in this way can avoid both misunderstandings in the various existential planes.

It is also interesting how they pose the scenes of the protagonist's thoughts with the events that were living with the arrival around the world, these shots somehow add interest to understand what happens during the development of the plot.

In general terms, this film leaves a very positive message by showing that finally the world could have a balance if it works in a coordinated way, if even in the face of situations out of the ordinary it is possible to reach an understanding; it is the ideal for humanity.

The latter makes me think of the pandemic we recently overcame, how the different countries coordinated the development and distribution of a vaccine to reach all parts of the world, perhaps at this moment the metaphor I am creating about what communication implies goes a little further, but that is what it is about, creating bridges to link living beings and above all to link them to preserve life.

Finally my rating to this movie is 7.5 stars, I recommend it, although it is a 2016 movie it can be a good option for a weekend out of the ordinary, a weekend of almost the belief of life beyond Earth.

  4. The Arrival one of the best science fiction films@ismaca1070d

    image.png Image

Science fiction film of 2016 , which is listed as one of the best in recent years.

Delightful and intelligently directed film by: Denis Villeneuve . Starring: AmyAdams (as the linguist Louise Banks), JeremyRenner (as the theoretical physicist Ian Donnelly) and ForestWhitaker (as Colonel Weber), proposes us an already classic theme as the "encounter in the third phase" of humans with an extraterrestrial race that arrive with their ships.

A classic science fiction theme, but treated in a very different way than usual.

The film was nominated for two Golden Globes, nine BAFTAs and eight Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography (Bradford Young is the first African-American nominated in this category), Best Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Production Design and Best Sound Editing, the only category it won.

Despite this, the film garnered more than 50 awards around the world, earning its presence in most of the Top Ten of the year for the film press.

The screenplay, an adaptation of "Story of your life", a story by writer Ted Chiang, is surprising for its linguistic approach to the extraterrestrial theme, far from the conventions of a genre that revels in the elaboration of battles and explosions of epic proportions.

    image.png Image

The film tells the story of how an elite team, led by linguistic expert Louise Banks, attempts to contact aliens who have arrived on Earth to find out if they come in peace or pose a threat.

As the protagonist learns to communicate with the aliens, she also begins to experience flashbacks that will help her discover the real reason for this extraterrestrial visit.

Music plays a fundamental role in ''The Arrival'' since it is an indispensable element to achieve the right tone and atmosphere for the story. Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson has been in charge of creating the incredible soundtrack of the film, where the human voice is the center of the soundscape.

Arrival takes the basic template of a "first contact with aliens" story and turns it into an exciting and unique visual spectacle, as well as a thoughtful exploration of what it means to be human. Arrival examines how we process time, memory, existence and loss, even when it has not yet happened.

For those reasons and more, Arrival is undoubtedly one of the best science fiction films of all time.

Hello friends who love the seventh art, today I want to talk a little about a movie that made me feel like a real nerd, since it touched on a subject that I am passionate about and that I studied at university. This is the 2016 film Arrival, a pure science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve that portrays the arrival, hence its title of alien ships, positioned at various important points around the world. It is not the typical action movie with aliens, where there are colored rays, futuristic ships and heroes that save the day, here we have an imaginary exercise as it would be to have contact with another civilization very different from the human race, but beyond that, how that would change our way of seeing things, especially the conception of time, which is the central approach of the film.

The plot revolves around the linguist Dr. Louis Banks (Amy Adams) who is contacted by the United States Army to help establish communication with the aliens who have landed their ships in some places on planet earth. As the doctor tries to understand the alien language, she will gradually feel her perception of reality and time will change without apparent explanation. Also, teaming up with her is the mathematician Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner) who helps with the search for answers when it comes to facing a totally unknown new language, without bases or references. The plot moves a bit slowly, but we should not confuse slowness with boring, the narrative is like that because the content that is presented is somewhat dense and I like it, it made me feel like I was in one of my university classes, it has interesting metaphors to make us understand the concepts that are handled and in this way the viewer can understand the meaning and the task that scientists have to solve. They both make a great team, especially Amy Adams, the way in which she shows us with her reactions how everything that is happening is affected in her mind and body is really credible.

The concept of the language handled in the film is very deep and dense, but it is very well illustrated that it is easy to digest, I like it because they take their time so that we can learn in the same way that the aliens do and also the scientists, It is a very interesting exchange process between two cultures that do not know each other. Humans try to teach aliens words, using sounds as well as movement, so that they can create meaning. But when the aliens communicate with each other, the problem to understand grows even more, since they have a writing system based on circular symbols, shortly after they discover that the symbols contain meanings and not words like human language. This part was the one I liked the most, because I am a language and literature teacher and many of the concepts handled in the tape I studied in depth in my university years, I really felt very identified, and as the protagonist, I was also changing my perception of things as I understood what was happening.

The film alludes to the Sphir-Whorf hypothesis that language determines our thinking and perception, through this premise is what the doctor discovers when she has strange visions, which are nothing more than memories of the future . The doctor understands that having enough linguistic tools to communicate with the aliens has changed her perception of time, understanding it as a cycle rather than a linear trend. Although it is impossible in reality, somehow the language we speak does determine our way of understanding the world, hence each people develops a different culture from another. Human beings use language to communicate, but we also express many things, let's think for a moment about poetry, it is the oldest art created with words, first orally and then with writing, metaphors make up our understanding of the world, and thanks to cognitive linguistics we no longer only know that they are not simple rhetorical resources, but that it is a form of communication to enclose meanings. This is handled in the film but on such a fantastic level that it's beautiful to understand.

Now, the understanding of a new language has changed her perception of time, Dr. Banks can see the future that she will have to live as if she were remembering it and she can see that she will have a daughter but that she will die of a strange disease, this new reality torments her until she has no energy to continue. And she asks herself the question of whether it would be worth making the decision to become a mother even knowing the consequences. I think this point is very similar to Nietzsche's philosophy of Eternal Return, although he spoke of the courage to decide for the la The same life, even if it were repeated countless times, here the only question is what to do with your life if you know what your destiny will be. This is not far from real life, since we all know that we will die one day and it is inevitable, but we can choose how to spend our days until they are over, but without knowing the content of each one of them in the future. It is a beautiful metaphor that the film presents to us, I think that we must live our lives to the full without any regrets, accepting all the consequences of what we decide for ourselves, that is free will.

I will not tell the outcome or the end so that you are curious to see this film, believe me, it is worth doing, currently few films are made in this way, where they present us with interesting ideas that can expand our understanding. We are creators of metaphors, and through them we can communicate and understand each other better, think for a moment, what is music, poetry and cinema? but metaphors of life. Think of this tape as one of those circular symbols, take the time to understand and decipher it and I assure you, just like Dr. Banks, you will experience changes in the way you see the world.

Many excellent movies have been made about the arrival of aliens on human earth and their various activities. And these aliens are shown to come to earth to carry out various missions. These alien missions have more harmful effects than good on human life on Earth in various ways. But today I will discuss about a movie where aliens come to earth to get help from humans in the future. I like this alien thing and I hope you will too. Well tell me how do you like the technology of the aliens? I love the advanced technology of the aliens.

    Movie Twists:

    1. Dr. It's about Leuise dreaming of his daughter without marrying him.
    2. Are aliens harmful or friendly to us?
    3. Will humans really benefit from helping aliens?
    4. Or was it a process of people destroying themselves through the use of more advanced technology at their own will.
    5. Dr. Scenes closing off the possibility of massive battles through Leuise.

    Movie Review:

After watching the movie, my first question arose that those who have more advanced technology than humans, are they using it to destroy humans in the name of helping themselves? And it is natural to think so, because the technology that is for aliens cannot be for humans in any way. And I don't think that when people get such advanced technology, it can never bring anything good to people except destruction. You must also understand a little whether people need normality or abnormality.

But anyway, aliens are seen in this Arrival movie in a slightly more positive way than all the other alien movies have been. The aliens in Arrival movie came to earth 3000 years ago to make sure that when aliens are in danger they can get help from humans. And for that American Dr. They gift Leuise with some of the latest technology and teach Lewis the aliens' language. And Dr. Leuise wrote a book to make the language of these aliens understandable to humans. And this way maybe one day people will be seen talking like aliens. At last aliens Dr. After neatly explaining their mission to Leuise, they politely went back to their quarters. And that's how this wonderful movie ends.

  7. Arrival - a review of my favorite alien movie@aurzeq1559d

    Plot

The film Arival tells the narrative of linguistics expert Louise, who is tasked by the US government with decoding the language of strangers aboard the massive monolithic ships that emerge out of nowhere, floating above various sites across the world. As a result, she travels to the American facility in Montana and begins working with scientist Ian (Jeremy Renner) and Colonel Weber (Forest Whitaker). These seven-legged critters, who communicate with unique tones and symbols, will undoubtedly surprise her. When coordinated attempts with other teams around the world fail, no one shares data, and military commanders decide to destroy the ships on their own. But, believing that she is about to learn something significant, Louise persists in following a line that worries everyone, even... you will have to find out this on your own 😉!

    Why should you watch it?

The main reason is that Arrival is an atypical alien movie, more original than any other that I have ever seen. The alien entities in Arrival aren't as frightening or spectacular as the spaceships in Independence Day or the tripods in The War of the Worlds, nor as cryptic as the monolith in 2001: Space Odyssey or the creatures that contact the protagonists in Interstellar, but they manage to engross and fascinate in a story that only superficially evolves in a slow and verbose manner, but that, upon closer examination, reveals a more complex and deep message based on the need for cooperation and dialogue between human beings of different ethnicities, religions, and consciences. As a result, communication ceases to be an instrument and instead becomes a means of understanding and comprehending one another in the interest of peaceful and productive collaboration.

    arrival.png

    Source

Many examples are given in Arrival of how, throughout history, humans have always fought battles to assert their control over others who are weaker, without first attempting to communicate with them. In reality, this is where the film's uniqueness lies: being able to represent a new extraterrestrial race as wanting to learn about our people and then be assisted in their history, rather than as a threat (as is the case in most films of this kind). And language is used to express this quest for knowledge. Language has been the only thing capable of connecting people of the same nation since its beginning, thus it is a critical component that must be used to grasp the genuine intentions of someone we do not know, rather than judging them based on preconceptions. The aliens are also depicted in a unique way, with excellent CGI, to make them appear as classic representations of Death, as opposed to humans, who are instead representations of Life, as stated by the director.

    arrival_movie_still.png

    Source

The first half of the film is devoted to Louise's encounters with the aliens; in fact, Louise manages to teach them human language, to which the aliens answer with specific symbols. Symbols that will be thoroughly analyzed and, thanks to Louise, will be interpreted. The first thought that comes to mind is, "Why did they come here?" "What is their goal?" is a question to which the answer will be revealed only at the end of the film, and it is everything but obvious. Arrival catches the viewer's attention from the opening minutes, completely immersing her/him in the story and allowing her/him to empathize with the protagonists and share their feelings, as well as their doubts and worries.

    arrival.jpg

    Source

It answers every issue that is posed, and despite the fact that there are no major twists and turns throughout the film, the best is saved for the end, which completely changes everything that has gone before.

    Why shouldn't you watch it?

    • If you expect to see a "classic" alien movie, complete with death rays, shocks, screamed military, and terrifying and lovely creatures: Arrival is not for you; it's dark without being a thriller, serious without being military.

    • Then there's its emotional side, which is nearly corny in both meaning and aesthetics, and which some may find overbearing and/or incongruent with the rest.

    • Finally, there is a maybe excessive acceleration in the story's unfolding before the conclusion.

    Conclusion

    arrival_1_copy.jpg

    Source

Arrival is a unique film, both in terms of its content and in terms of the genre to which it belongs. It succeeds as science fiction and alien film because it imagines the other from an empathic perspective: aliens and humans converse as people rather than as monsters or foes. But, unlike any other space mission/alien film, Arrival engages for primarily human reasons, and it does so with style. It's a good film that benefits from its director's main talent: the ability to have a highly recognizable point of view, a personal style, while always remaining at the service of the film and never getting in the way of the spectator or characters.

    Movie Analysis

Science fiction is one of those genres that always attracts viewers, in fact, it is one of the genres that most captures my attention because our imagination flies, we observe the future and the mysteries of the universe from another point of view with every story that cinema gives us. Normally this is a highly commercial genre, many people and I include myself expect it to be a fascinating production full of great special effects, which is an important feature to keep the viewer's attention.

    Source

Despite the fact that this movie falls into the science fiction genre, I must say that it is not like one of these typical and commercial productions of this futuristic genre or in this case of the arrival of aliens to our planet. When we observe in a trailer or reading the synopsis about the arrival of aliens to our planet, we immediately imagine a scenario of action, futuristic weapons, explosions and a story linked to the extinction or enslavement of the human race, however, it is necessary to clarify that this film is not headed in that direction that we always assume is the constant path of alien movies.

    Source

    Science Fiction - Drama

This is a production that is introduced within the drama genre having a scenario or environment anchored to science fiction, something that may seem strange to many viewers who are always looking for the mixture of action and science fiction, it is for that reason that from the point of view in which this film is observed may disappoint users who what they expect is to delight with action scenes with great special effects.

    Pace of the film

The film has a pace typical of a dramatic and investigative film, somewhat slow to get to accelerate in the final stage, basically in the last minutes where the pace accelerates to reach the climax of the production, it seems to me an appropriate pace for the story that is being told, especially to understand what you want to convey the film.

    Source

    Primitive Humanity

Something that I particularly enjoy about this type of film, is that it conveys a message attacking the human ego of declaring itself a being full of knowledge and fully developed, I think we are far from that statement, this type of film conveys it in a sublime way that are added as brushstrokes in the development of the film.

    Acting Like Humans

One of the questions that stands out in this film from the beginning is the intention of the aliens to land in various parts of the world, do they want to invade us, do they want to eradicate us, do they want humanity to be enslaved? Many questions that with certain fear are being asked since the beginning of the arrival of these beings, however, if we appreciate this aspect in more detail we can notice that humanity expects that these other beings behave like humans, in that case, it would not be very encouraging news for our existence or freedom because our history is witness of slaughter and slavery against our own race, it is for that reason that all the military capacity of the world is concentrated in a point of high tension around the spacecraft.

    Source

    Language and Communication.

Another aspect shown in this film, is that aliens have their language, however, it is another of those aspects in which we proudly think that our language is something highly developed in our race, in a way this production gives us a slap in the face with a much more effective alien language at the time of conveying the message, with a basis in meaning and not in sounds as we humans normally do, without fear of being wrong this is one of those characteristics in which this film stands out from a common science fiction film and why it is so accepted in the critics.

    Source

    Reflection and Time

In addition to the comparison of those beings that leave the human race at the base of evolution, the production is accompanied by a very interesting reflection touching the theme of time. In this case it is very difficult to write without mentioning any spoiler, however, it is a quite marked reflection that has a twist in my opinion quite good at the end of the film, for that we must be aware of those details that the film leaves as breadcrumbs to follow a path. This reflection complements the whole story in a good way and invites the viewer to think while watching the end credits, it seems to me a very good execution, both in the story and in the dramatic mix to reach a totally reflective ending.

    Source.

The movie certainly touches on interesting aspects about time and how humanity perceives it, not knowing the mysteries and that perhaps time in a certain way is not a straight line, however, I should not get too much into the subject so as not to ruin the experience of some interested user.

    Acting

In this film I must highlight the performance of Amy Adams, she manages to introduce us in a good way to this film that although it is science fiction adds much of the dramatic genre and in that aspect I think the protagonist of this story does it in a good way, no doubt a good job together of the high caliber cast of this production.

    Source.

    Score:

    7.2 ⭐️

    Final Opinion.

This is an interesting movie, I think it is one of those productions that break the mold of typical sci-fi productions by having a mix of drama and avoiding action. I find the story interesting and it directly attacks our perception of humans as an "advanced" society, at the same time it gives us a very interesting reflection on the ending. Perhaps this production leaves several questions in the air, too many for my taste, especially in relation to the theme of time.

    Source.

    Do I recommend it?

Yes, it is a good production, however, I understand that it is not a movie for all tastes, usually users want to see action in a science fiction movie so watching it with that perception can leave the viewer unsatisfied, on the other hand, I think it is an interesting story and that takes us to a significant and reflective dramatic environment. That's why sometimes it's good to read reviews (without spoilers) to maybe not get a disappointing surprise at least in terms of the film's genre.

As always, it is a pleasure to write my perception and opinion about movies, always hoping that it will be of pleasure and value to the community. I look forward to your comments to know your opinions on this film or if this review has been helpful to you in any way, that is quite special to the author, with nothing more to add I bid you farewell.

  10. Análisis de la película "La llegada"/Analysis of the movie "The Arrival"@lumpymoon1756d

Within the extraterrestrial genre, there have been countless encounters between humans and characters from other worlds or galaxies. Sometimes as friends, sometimes as enemies; being conquered or conquerors; always being part of some apocalyptic or futuristic event.

Today I will tell you about a film that deals in a unique way with the interaction between aliens and humans. A story that seems familiar at first, but gradually takes a different path that will leave you surprised.

The film focuses on the strange and unexpected arrival of unidentified objects, without knowing their motive or their intentions on earth, each government of different countries will try to find out who those beings are and why they chose their planet.

The protagonist, specialized in linguistics, has always been dedicated to deciphering all kinds of ancient symbolisms that have come to be used for communication. Recognized for having written some introductory books on the subject, she is recruited by the military government to assign her an important task in relation to humanity.

The unidentified beings could not be seen with the naked eye, only through a small crystal inside their spacecraft. At the first opportunity the government had to interact with them, they discovered that they could not make close contact, they did not know what to say to them or how to deal with them, they were only prepared to start a war if they felt invaded by those beings.

Upon deciding to recruit the expert in linguistics, she decided on the correct way to present herself to the beings, obtaining as an answer a series of symbols created with ink that they expelled from their tentacles. Intrigued by the results, she would begin an investigation to decipher the meaning of each symbol and finally obtain the intentions that those beings had about their visit to earth.

Pressured by the other governments, the protagonist had to deliver results quickly, since every so often the spaceships began to move farther away from earth. When she got an erroneous result about the message that those beings had for humanity, she would initiate great attacks in several countries against the spaceships, with bombings the governments wanted to shoot down the ships and force the beings to leave the planet.

Surprisingly, the protagonist would realize that she had made a wrong translation, she would begin to look for alternatives to communicate with those countries that were about to start a war. Giving a 360-degree turn, the story would finally reveal the intentions of those beings, leading us to a moment of reflection and infinite questioning.

Personally I liked the movie too much, since it comes out of that mold where only beings from another planet arrive and leave, they do not give more deep context in this regard. This story, besides taking up the unexpected visits, included an interesting form of symbolic communication that would come to be considered as a new language to learn.

How far would we be able to get a good communication with beings from another world? Human beings have always been fearful when they encounter things unknown to them, some prefer to face them, but most want to run away or simply ignore them. Unfortunately there are more and more cases of interest in exploiting the unknown, exhibiting it before thousands of people as a trophy (whether true or false), more and more people's selfishness takes over the interactions and the hunger for healthy knowledge.

Will we be prepared to welcome visitors from other galaxies? Although it is classified as fiction, this movie made me think about it, there would only be a low percentage of truly interested people with no evil intent who would get involved in researching situations outside our planet.

    Atentamente: Lumpy :3

You will find the movie inside the Netflix platform, if you have seen it tell me in the comments your first impressions. Thanks for reading my post and see you next time.

    Sincerely: Lumpy :3

What I like most about a story is how interesting and enveloping it can become, transmitting us with a series of images that strike our imagination and subtly incursion into our mind. As we enter a world parallel to our own, we are exhilarated by the wonders we will find there, something that 'Arrival' has provoked in me, inducing an intrigue that I have rarely felt from some films.

    Plot of the film

The story tells us about a renowned doctor in linguistics: Louise Banks (Amy Adams) who is required by the U.S. government to decipher the language of aliens who suddenly arrived on Earth, settling in 12 important points of the world. One of them, North American territory, specifically in the state of Montana. Panic begins to sweep the world, there is looting and desolation in the streets because of a supposed alien invasion, it seems that everything depends on Dr. Banks and her now partner Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner), a doctor of physics who was also required by the government to decipher such an enigma.

The film focuses on both of them, for if they fail to clarify the true purpose of the aliens and their establishment on our planet, a worldwide catastrophe could occur. Will they succeed? Will they manage to decipher the strange means of communication used by the visitors in time before a war occurs?

During her interaction with the visitors, Louise discovers that they do not communicate with words but with a type of writing called: 'Semasiographic' a type of writing that is used only to communicate with signs without the interception of words or other phonetic sounds. The interesting thing about the film, for the viewer, are the visitors, but the background goes beyond that, something that we will find with the recurring events that we will contemplate.

Colonel Weber (Forest Whitaker) is in charge of answering the two essential questions that everyone wants to know: Why are they here and what is their purpose? Dr. Banks tries to reveal the riddles, but there is another one that suddenly presents itself to the protagonist.

The "Heptapeds", the name given to the aliens by scientists because of their unique seven-legged cephalopod-like appearance, begin to reveal in their writing a message of sorts that they want to convey to humans. As Banks tries to elucidate it, she begins to have strange visions or flashbacks of her life, moments she has never lived. From this moment on, we enter an atmosphere of confusion with the protagonist, but then things begin to become clearer if we pay enough attention.

Within one of Louise's multiple visions, we find references that help to understand the type of language used by the Heptapeds, for example, their writing turns out to be 'Palindrome', a type of writing that can be read both upside down and backwards, as the visitors can only communicate with symbols that they themselves generate with some kind of substance that they emit, the doctor in linguistics will use her knowledge to understand it and create a glossary of word meanings.

As things unfold, Lousie gradually realizes that she can read the language of the Heptapeds and that everything has to do with a weapon they want to offer to humanity. This concept is different, since the term 'weapon' is used by the aliens to refer to a 'tool' or 'gift', which is used to be able to see the future.

Louise realizes that her interaction with the Heptapeds is affecting her perception of things, and that her sudden visions are images of her future as a result of having deciphered the Visitors' language. Using her new ability, Louise attempts to stop a world war by calling directly to the General of China, to stop the attack on the Visitors' ships, a masterful plot twist.

Within the film we also see a linguistic reference that was the one that marked the outcome of the story, it is the hypothesis of Sapir-Whorf, which tells us that all human beings, through language, have a particular conception of the world. A particular cosmogony that cannot be changed abruptly, for example, a Chinese person does not see the world in the same way as a Latin American or vice versa, since they come from two very different cultures and language is the greatest influence of all. By learning another language and culture, our brain is completely restructured to give way to new knowledge and see at the same time a new conception of the world.

In the film, this hypothesis has a lot of weight, since the protagonist, upon learning the language of the visitors, begins to acquire the ability to see the future just like them, that is, her whole organism has been restructured. That is the weapon or tool that the Heptapedos wanted to leave to humanity, their language, the best gift they have been able to give them.

This is a beautiful story that talks about language as the only link that connects us all, whether we are from different cultures or have different conceptions, language unites people and helps us to understand each other's situations. I liked the moral of the story, apart from how it is encompassed and the excellent photographic frames that show us a paranormal environment. The special effects were also another thing that impressed me, really the editing is well done and I don't have to say anything else.

Amy Adams' performance was also sublime, her character conveyed to me a duality of boldness and fragility, taking things slowly so that the story doesn't feel rushed. The language they use in the film is not purely scientific, as it makes inroads to the viewer with simple terms what is intended to be realized within the plot. The truth is that the story has kept me hooked from beginning to end, and it is a movie I would watch more than once. I give it a rating of 9/10 placing it on my list of best sci-fi movies I have seen.

  13. Arrival: A realistic first contact | Review | (ENG) (ESP)@kruznik71901d

    image.png

How would we speak in the first contact with Aliens? How would we try to decipher an inextricable language? Under this premise, the film tries to keep away from the typical way of anthropomorphizing Aliens, giving it a more logical, coherent, and therefore realistic sense. The idea that beings from another planet can communicate in the same way can be absurd, in fact they couldn't have hands, eyes and have other senses that we don't possess. This universe offers us an infinite range of different ways to evolve, we can appreciate it on our own planet, a tiny blue world surrounded by vastness.

12 UFOs are left floating in different points of the earth, without any apparent explanation. The material from which these UFOs are built is unknown to us humans and global alarms begin to explode. With such a situation, governments try to decipher what message these beings from another world want to leave us and that is where the two main characters of this work come in, a famous linguist and a theoretical physicist. Faced in two different worlds, science and language begin to work symbiotically, cooperating between numbers and letters.

This has been a very original way of telling us something that we have seen thousands of times before but with much less naivety. Louise Banks (the linguist), begins to try to dialogue with the aliens to whom she gave the name Abbot and Costello. These beings are endowed with 8 legs, similar to an octopus and their way of communicating is through a fluid creating a series of images with a complex linguistic system which is not linear, that is, it isn't tied to the chains of time, being able to communicate information much faster than with our language.

Louise Banks tries to teach them our language with many strategies and little by little the secrets of her language are revealed.

    Saphir-Worf theory

This film is based on the linguistic theory of Saphir-Worf, which indicates that there is an intrinsic relationship between the language that an individual get and the way of thinking that they may have. Letting us glimpse that a German cannot think in a similar way to a Chinese, beyond the cultural context, they are defined by their language and the creation of those languages expands or limits our vision of the world. Eskimos, for example, distinguish more shades of white since they live surrounded by snow and their vision is probably altered by that fact.

With this concept, Arrival goes further, showing us through the language that Abbot and Costello taught Louise, the future time can be visualized. This point may sound very far-fetched on a scientific level and also for science fiction purists, but personally, I found it daring and sagacious. Contemporary science fiction doesn't play with the distant future for fear that its ideas will become obsolete, nor does it always make bold leaps of creativity. Of course, we are talking about a science fiction work and it must have scientific material, but not everything must be completely tied to science, there can always be interesting twists with a deviation outside of the scientific, a good example of this is Star Wars, where fantasy and science fiction meet.

Arrival is a fairly complete movie. One of the first things I could appreciate about it in the first few minutes was the soundtrack by Max Richter, one of my favorite composers. This film offers us drama, emotion and science, 4 things that are not often seen together.

The photography is beautiful and the acting of Amy Adams is masterful. Despite being a science fiction film, it brings us scenes with a strong emotional charge (as is the case of Interstellar) but what I liked the most was the original, daring way of telling a story that we have seen so many times but with that linguistic influence, that touch of humanity, moving us away from data and numbers and showing us in a substantial way the enormous power we have: our language. The ability to communicate ideas was essential for our development as a species, the birth of that outbreak of ideas increased our evolution reaching the peak of all species on this planet.

  14. Arrival: Are aliens our friends or enemies?@claudio831902d

As a film buff I have seen a lot of films about aliens and few are the ones I liked: mostly extraterrestrial beings are seen as enemies who have the aim of destroying the human race or conquering our planet.

A different film on the alien theme is ** Arrival ** by Denis Villeneuve, released in theaters in 2016 and found a good success with international critics.

The Earth is suddenly invaded by 12 alien spaceships, called shells, which are positioned in different areas of the planet and remain stationary, allowing humans to come into contact with them. Communication is complex and impossible and for this reason doctor Louise Banks is hired by the government, being the greatest expert in foreign languages, together with the physicist Ian Donnelly. The two work closely together and begin to study the language of alien communication, made exclusively of symbols similar to circles with different ripples.

What everyone wants to know is the reason for the presence of these spaceships on the planet and, after creating a basic communication system, the two researchers decipher the message "Bring Weapon". Concerned, the government leaders decide to prepare for war and, unbeknownst to Louise and Ian, install a bomb during their routine visits inside the ship. The two aliens, aware of the device, manage to save the researchers, and immediately after they leave with their spaceships.

Louise manages to meet again the aliens who explain that they are here to help the inhabitants of the Earth so that, in the future, the latter help them. The weapon is actually the tool that the aliens would make available to humanity that is the possibility of having visions of the future. Louise is thus able to get in touch with the authorities to explain all the details, avoiding war.

A film that manages to keep you on your toes, made to keep you always attached to the screen, with audio and visual effects that are not exceptional but effective. I admit that the appearance of the spacecraft reminds me a lot of Independence Day but here the story is less American action cinema.

Critics welcomed the film and received many Oscar nominations, even winning a statuette for best sound editing. A film that I recommend to see especially to those who are passionate about the extraterrestrial genre.

  15. [Movie review] Why is "Arrival" not called "The Story of Your Life"@filoso1965d
"Arrival" Although the best part of the film is atmosphere creation, the film pays more attention to the core of science fiction-alien civilization text. In contrast, the outstanding advantage of the novel is that the imagination of alien characters is more fascinating than the movie.

Advent is adapted from Ted Jiang’s short story "The Story of Your Life". The film is different from other science fiction movies in that its atmosphere is very good. I have to say that many science fiction movies have excellent atmosphere and hard work. These films The key point may also be to create an atmosphere, such as Prometheus, such as Lost Wars; and other key points obviously did not create an atmosphere, such as Star Wars (the Star Wars series is more like a sci-fi martial arts film), such as the devil Terminator (the main environment of this film is in the real society, and the future society is basically not described too much) and so on. However, the film "Arrival" does not take this seriously, although the best thing about the film is the atmosphere creation. The film pays more attention to the core of science fiction-alien civilization text. In comparison, the outstanding advantage of the novel is that the imagination of alien characters is more amazing than the movie, and the advantage of the movie is the atmosphere.

    "Advent"

    The movie "Arrival" (network map)

The author's novel imagination mainly comes from language. What kind of language a person uses will show different ways of thinking. Although this statement has not been certified by an authority, it makes people think about it, so there is a movie. The ring-shaped characters in, so linguists can transform their way of thinking by learning the characters of the heptapod civilization, thus opening the door to the past and the future.

It is almost impossible to present the text story in a more systematic and logical manner in the movie, because originally this study cannot be simply expressed from the picture of text analysis. If the alien civilization is so well understood, humans and animals would have communicated long ago. opened. The description of language learning in the text story is also as simple as a stroke. As for why the tired linguist in the film can understand alien languages in a dream, and has the ability to predict, it is exactly the same level as in the novel. , It is completely unexplained.

Although the movie does not complete the unfinished imaginary details in the novel, the movie has a "description" that is not in the novel. This movie tells us how to turn a good idea novel into a story with a sense of picture. I mainly talk about the "description" of a few scenes, which are hardly detailed in the novel.

The first one was in the lecture hall. None of the students concentrated on the class. Louis continued to teach helplessly, and the students asked her to read the news. An unknown fear was slowly manifested in this performance. No abrupt people ran in and shouted alien invasion, no sudden power outages and alarms, and no one even said it was an alien. It only depicts the half-heartedness of students (dynamic), the concentration of teachers (static), and news reports (displaying facts).

The second one called the mother at home when Louis returned to his residence. There is no description of the chaotic crowd on the street. Although it shows the scene of the students leaving the campus, the picture does not make any destructive statements, there is no violence and conflict, and then Louis calls his mother. The room is quiet and dark. Although the conversation between Deng, Louis and his mother was calm, she could tell her mother’s anxiety from her answer. The director highlighted the anxiety through the description of Jing, because it is impossible to be quiet at this time of alien invasion, and the audience can easily Attracted by this contrast, I am afraid that I will ask again what happened? What happens next?

The third is a long shot depiction of Louis seeing an alien spacecraft. Peering out from the noisy helicopter, it was a quiet, unknown and disturbing unknown object. From the vast open space, to the turbulent sea of clouds, to the weird sight of huge dish-shaped objects standing in the sky, it makes people feel both wonderful and terrifying. The camera transition is smooth and soothing. The military squad is camped in Mizenza far away from unknown objects. Everyone in the base is so nervous that they are armed to their teeth. On the other hand, the spacecraft is elegantly anchored in the air, full of fantasy, without dazzling flashes, or The peculiar shape of the appearance is a strong contrast between static and dynamic, which highlights the seriousness of the situation and the psychological feelings of the protagonist. At this moment, Louis is in tension and anxiety and the strong attraction of unknown civilization to her.

The fourth is the first time the researchers jumped onto the spacecraft. This boarding shot is very cool, and the detailed thinking is superb. How to board an alien spacecraft is carefully described in this video, and it is very interesting. The lens seen from above is an unforgettable experience.

The fifth is the appearance of aliens. When I read a novel for the first time, the heptapods were a group of gentle and cute aliens. Here, the aliens were isolated behind a transparent barrier and covered with smoke behind them, leaving only part of the viewer's visible body. , The curiosity and fear of alien civilization are well protected, so that when I read the novel, I was still a little scared when I saw this scene.

The sixth film is well interspersed with the connection between the future and the present. This is much more intuitive and emotional than the words in the novel. The film’s description of the interaction between Louis and his daughter is very touching. One word and one blame all reflect Louis’s deep love and longing for her daughter, even though this longing is in The daughter was born before she was born. This feeling is very strange. When you miss someone, you have not met that person. When you decide to own someone, you already know that he (she) will eventually Away from you. Many inexplicable emotions that make one's eyes full of tears are aroused at this time.

    Come

The story does not stop there. It tells how Louis prevented a terrible war and how to find the footsteps of fate. She did not lose the pursuit of happiness in the future in the future. Louis' exploration of love and the meaning of life is moving. The film director's performance techniques are calm and calm, without abruptness and exaggeration, but it shows the tension of the film. He is really a director who can tell a story.

Finally, I want to say that the title of "The Story of Your Life" is very good, because the first part of writing a novel is the title. If the novel is called "Arrival", then it is related to "Omen", "Terror Zone", and "Star Wars". "Wait, how does the name feel different? You can't distinguish it from other stories at first glance, but when you read the two paragraphs and discover that the descriptions are in alien languages, you will immediately lose suspense and interest, which naturally reduces many readers. So thank Jiang Fengnan, thank him for giving this little story such a good name. I also want to say that the director, you obviously missed the practice of VR technology. If VR is introduced into the film and shows the special temperament of alien text, maybe this film will become a classic like Avatar!

  17. Arrival (Film): Review.@martinmcfly2768d

As everyone who has read some of my reviews should know, Denis Villeneuve is one of my favorite directors, I already wrote about several of his films, the fantastic Prisoners, to which I qualified with a score of 9 out of 10, and which is the review that more reward has been collected, almost the same as all the other together, I also talked about Enemy, rated with a score of 8 points, and Sicario that shares the same overall rating. Even though these films are different from each other, they have an element that unites them, and it is the genius of Denis Villeneuve. For that reason, today I decided to talk about Arrival, a film by the same director, which has left me satisfied.

Year: 2016 Category: Science Fiction. Director: Denis Villeneuve. Cast: Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker, Michael Stuhlbarg, Tzi Ma.

    Plot

Suddenly, some spacecraft land on earth, which is why an elite team, selected by the government, and led by Louise Banks, is in charge of communicating with them. While the world is in danger, and a full-scale war can begin, Banks and his team try to find answers.

    Opinion

The plot can deceive some people, so I would like to make it clear that this movie is the same style as 2001: A Space Odyssey, or that Contact, those who hope to find a movie like Battleship or Independence Day here, will be disappointed. The proposal of the film is not, at all, explosions and overflowing special effects, but a more reflective product.

I have not had the good fortune to read Story of Your Life, which is the name of the book on which the script of the film is based, although I do know someone who has done it and, before watching the film, he wondered how the director would do to translate what written in the book to the screen. Unfortunately, I only got to see that person a couple of times more since then, and we did not have the opportunity to talk about it, so he could not tell if the film honored the book. After all, it is a difficult job to satisfy readers when they become spectators.

What I can say, is that the film deals with the extraterrestrial problem from a novel perspective and in a mature way, this is not about nuclear wars, the objective is not to show that humans have bigger balls than aliens, and that we can be more destructive, but quite the opposite.

In this film, it's more about science than about fiction. The film is realistic, emotional, and intense, getting the viewer to join a scenario where aliens come to earth with unknown intentions, allowing a process of not confrontation, but communication with them. Why did they come? Who are they? Where do they come from?

Under the scenario of uncertainty caused by the presence of aliens, the film tries to show us how each country will make its own decisions, and will have to deal, in its own way, with the whole problem. Some try to talk, while others want to go to a confrontation.

Dialogue with the opposite party, in this case, just like in real life, is the most difficult. So that they can ask a question to the aliens, they must first know how the aliens understand the time, then, somehow they have to make them understand that they want to refer to all of them in general, not to an individual, or even to know if they have a conception of the individual isolated from the collective. Later they must ask a question, and even try to convey and agree on the most basic concepts. Then, the viewer can see how to communicate, in fact, it is more difficult to face in a battle. In a way, it reminded me of the discovery of America.

The film manages a second narrative that initially seems to consist of flashbacks, but I will not talk about it, so as not to damage with one possible spoiler one of the most important turns of the film.

In general all the actors do their job well, however, everything revolves around the excellent performance of Amy Adams, which makes and transmits everything his character requires. Jeremy Renner, on the other hand, represents a scientist who is very happy and intrigued, since he can personally experience contact with aliens. The roles of Whitaker and Stuhlbarg are quite simple, but they are well acted.

Personally, the film seems exciting and intelligent, but I think I need to see it more than once in order to understand all the details. Good for me.

    Score

    8/10

The film is an intelligent and exciting science fiction work that does not need action scenes to keep the viewer attentive to the screen. I recommend it.

  18. Movie Review: Arrival@thatanimesnob3021d

So, I watched Arrival, a movie many pseudo-intellectuals out there are calling a masterpiece. The hook is, aliens arrive on Earth and they do not seem to want to destroy it. Most of the movie is about humans trying to communicate with them by deciphering their weird language.

Up until the big revelation, I was fine with it. It was slow and mostly uneventful but was taking itself seriously and had a very captivating atmosphere. There was even tension and high stakes in the form of some countries across the world not trusting the aliens and be constantly one step away from bombing the hell out of the spaceships. If this escalates amongst those who see the aliens as allies and those who consider them invaders, it would mean the beginning of a new world war.

But then the revelation happens and the movie loses all its appeal. Turns out deciphering the language makes you see your future, turning the whole movie to be about fatalism. There never was any tension or high stakes because everything was supposed to happen as such. The resolution was predetermined because once the main heroine saw her future, she knew what she was supposed to do, as well as she knew everything will turn out fine while the crisis was still at large. Thanks for nothing.

And it doesn’t stop there, no sir, it even insults your intelligence by resolving the military conflict through circular reasoning. The general who was about to attack the aliens was convinced they are harmless when the heroine spoke with him over the phone. His phone number was top secret and the reason she knew about it was because the general showed her the number in the future, so she would know it in the present. Freaking hilarious!

Oh, and if you are wondering how the general was convinced she was telling the truth, it’s because she told him things only he knew about. And how did our heroine know about those things? Because the same general told her in the future what to say to his present self, so he can be convicted! Damn son, that’s like a free ticket out of any situation imaginable! I facepalmed so hard at this.

Wait, there is more. Throughout the movie, the heroine has these flashbacks where she is interacting with her daughter. It was a cheap way to make her more sympathetic to the audience, since she doesn’t really have a personality other than looking worried with her mouth constantly open. Turns out those were not memories because they hadn’t happened yet. They were not flashbacks, they were flash forwards to the daughter she will have, therefore she never had a life to make us care about her for who she is, compared to what she accomplishes as a plot device. And she accomplishes everything simply by finding the answer into the future, so it’s all lazy and contrived.

Arrival boasts about making you think a lot, and I agree that it does. I was constantly wondering what kind of people would like this retarded revelation and give the movie anything higher than an average score. And here is a question the movie never bothered to explore. What is the beauty of life, if everything is predetermined and you know about them from the moment you are born? You are just a robot acting out a predetermined set of actions.

The movie never addresses that, because it’s too busy trying to look mysterious and be in a constant state of danger when in retrospect there is none. It also explains nothing about the aliens as a species. Where do they come from, what is the threat they speak of, how do they appear and disappear in an instant? Why did they even send a dozen ships when one was enough to make the heroine decipher the language? Because it was predetermined that they needed to send 12? How about the alien that was killed in an explosion? He knew it would happen but did nothing to save himself! There is no free will!

What a pile of nonsense! Another fine title for pretentious pseudo-intellectuals to touch themselves while analyzing its ludicrous plot.

  19. Review Film: Arrival (2016)@film-trail3247d

     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFMo3UJ4B4g

When twelve mysterious spacecraft appear around the world, linguistics professor Louise Banks is tasked with interpreting the language of the apparent alien visitors.

    THE REVIEW

Space-themed films from different solar systems are often made a typical dish. Often told by the theme of massive invasion and destruction, or satirical comedy, to the most remembered as the family drama in Steven Spielberg's legendary E.T.the Extra-Terrestrial. But this is not the case with the recent work of Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners). Arrival Arranged, this Canadian filmmaker unravels alien fantasy-themed science fiction with so different and gives extraordinary sensation after watching it.

Installing Amy Adams as her main figure, Arrival began her plot with a scene that seemed to be a flashback from the history of Louise Banks, a linguist who Adams was playing. Continue to daily Louise who worked as a lecturer, until suddenly an alien oval-shaped aircraft appeared and occupied twelve different locations on earth. Thanks to an extraordinary resume in the past with the US military, Louise was then flown to Montana and studying communications with the Heptapods; Alien tangible like a giant tentacle giant, in his mission Louise is also accompanied by scientist Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner). Met with two alien figures named Abbott and Costello (from the name of Hollywood comedian duo at Golden Era) and began communicating with them on a regular basis, Louise gradually realized the true purpose of the aliens' arrival to earth.

Arrival is a movie made so neatly, Villeneuve randomly disguises some scenes as a flashback in his narrative, but as he revoves his main story he never loses focus. Although initially running quite slow and a little dull, Arrival still do the approach slowly but surely. We have never been given a vivid picture of the alien's arrival from many points of view, and Villeneuve only shares Louise's point of view with his audience so that it builds on its own tension and many mysteries. The scene of Louise and his team when they first set foot inside an alien plane and their first meeting was able to make a shudder, especially with Johann Johannsson's musical support that was so disturbing and uncomfortable. However, who would have thought that the flow continues Villeneuve lead us to a conclusion that is so emotional and slightly reminiscent of the Tree of Life of Terrence Malick.

Arrival is also an exhibition of upscale plays from Adams, which is very limited to the screen and play nicely. So substantial are the supporting actors as a supplement to the story, which fortunately remains an important part of Villeneuve. The game of alien singing symbols (shaped like the Ouroboros) to the parrots in the cage is interesting enough to be listened to, as the camera viewing angle taken by Villeneuve looks unusual still enthralling. But only the most remarkable of Arrival is Villeneuve's simple scientific fiction, he simply packs a humanity drama within the complexities of science. The time paradox that became the key to the plot also held Villeneuve quite simply and could not stand at the end of his narration. Medium, one of the motives of the aliens are still made confusing and shrinking until the film credits rolling.

Arrival is ultimately an amazing science fiction film in his so humane and emotionally depleted speech but plays his logic, although executed with a simple yet deep and contemplative settlement. Leaving the old traces in the body after watching it and making us contemplate life. And for that Villeneuve worth the applause as high.

    RATING (8/10)
