Yesterday I finally finished watching a series that really impacted me, even though I've never been particularly attracted to Japanese culture, however I can't deny that when I saw the trailer for this series I was completely drawn in due to its aesthetics and animation, but also because of its story which seemed to have great depth.

Ayer finalmente terminé de ver una serie que realmente me impactó, a pesar de que nunca me he sentido particularmente atraída por la cultura nipona, sin embargo no puedo negar que cuando vi el tráiler de esta serie me atrajo por completo debido a su estética y animación, pero también por su historia la cuál parecía tener una gran profundidad.

Overview/Resumen

In the Edo period (17th century) Japan was completely closed to foreign influences, although they did maintain some trade in firearms, it is here where we find four foreigners who arrived to cause chaos, they took women indiscriminately and it was precisely as a result of these abuses against women that Mizu was born, the protagonist of this story, she was born mixed race, with white skin (although really the Japanese are white skinned, but we already know that many Europeans like to think they are the only ones 😄) and blue eyes, this gave her an inferior position in society that discriminated against her for her mixed race, they even called her a monster and she constantly had to flee to avoid being stoned. When she grew up Mizu went to live with a blacksmith who made katanas but she not only learned that trade, but she also learned to handle those weapons, watching the most skilled warriors and practicing their movements, so when she was ready she set out to find the four foreigners (one of them her father) to take revenge.

En la época Edo (XVII) Japón estaba completamente cerrado a las influencias extranjeras, aunque sí mantenían cierto comercio con las armas de fuego, es aquí donde encontramos a cuatro extranjeros que llegaron para causar el caos, tomaban mujeres indiscriminadamente y fue precisamente producto de estos abusos contra mujeres que nació Mizu, la protagonista de este historia, ella nació mestiza, con la piel blanca (aunque realmente los japoneses son de piel blanca, pero ya sabemos que a muchos europeos les gusta pensar que son los únicos 😄) y los ojos azules, esto le otorgó una posición inferior ente la sociedad que la discriminaba por su mestizaje, incluso la llamaban "monstruo" y constantemente tenía que huir para evitar ser apedreada. Al crecer Mizu se fue a vivir con un herrero fabricante de katanas pero no solo aprendió ese oficio, sino que también aprendió a manejar esas armas, viendo a los más diestros guerreros y practicando sus movimientos, así que cuando estuvo lista salió rumbo a buscar a los cuatro extranjeros (uno de ellos su padre) para tomar venganza.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión

The first thing that jumps out at you is the great animation work in this series, which makes an excellent combination of 2D and 3D animation and as a result it looks like a moving painting. In addition, the cameras follow the movements of the characters, which gives the audience an even more immersive and efficient experience. It's almost as if you were watching a live-action movie, at least that's the feeling I had.

Lo primero que salta a la vista es el gran trabajo de animación de esta serie que hace una excelente combinación entre la animación 2D y 3D y como resultado parece una pintura en movimiento, además las cámaras siguen los movimientos de los personajes lo cuál le otorga a la audiencia una experiencia aún más inmersiva y eficiente, es casi como si estuvieses viendo una película en live action, al menos fue la sensación que tuve.

Another important point to highlight here is the story itself, it is very raw and obviously not made for children, in fact it has many scenes of sex and explicit violence because the intention is not to romanticize life in Japan in the 18th century, but to show the harsh reality of a difficult time for women, especially for mixed-race women, which in turn allows us to see how much the world has evolved since then. The main character, Mizu, is very complex and reminds me of other movie characters, Mulan for example, since like the Chinese maiden, Mizu had to cross-dress in order to gain the respect of others, go unnoticed, hide her mixed race and fight with other men on equal terms, but in this sense it also seems like a Japanese version of Kill Bill, especially because Mizu is motivated by hatred and revenge, and it is precisely this mix of elements that makes it so interesting.

Otro punto importante a resaltar aquí es la historia en si, es muy cruda y obviamente no está hecha para niños, de hecho tiene muchas escenas de sexo y violencia explícita porque la intención no es romantizar la vida en Japón en el siglo XVIII, sino mostrar la cruda realidad de una época difícil para las mujeres, en especial para las mujeres mestizas, lo cuál a su vez nos permite ver cuanto ha evolucionado el mundo desde entonces. El personaje principal, Mizu, es muy complejo y me recuerda a otro personajes del cine, Mulán por ejemplo, ya que al igual que la doncella china, Mizu tuvo que travestirse para poder ganarse el respeto de los demás, pasar desapercibida, ocultar su mestizaje y luchar con otros hombres en igualdad de condiciones, pero en este sentido también parece una versión nipona de Kill Bill, sobre todo porque Mizu está motivada por el odio y la venganza, y es precisamente esta mezcla de elementos los que la hacen tan interesante.

In terms of character evolution and development, I think this story shines with Taigen, Akemi, and Ringo since there is a notable change in their behavior and their way of seeing life, on the other hand, Mizu continues with the same objective motivated by hatred and revenge, although she is a character with many nuances and we see her in different stages of her life, including when she was a normal housewife, we see her process of transformation into a human being apparently without empathy who only thinks about herself and fulfilling her objective, although in reality she has codes that she respects, she is not a villain, she does not want to hurt someone who has never hurt her, but neither is she a heroine, in fact she is an antihero.

En materia de evolución y desarrollo de personajes creo que esta historia se luce con Taigen, Akemi y Ringo ya que hay un notable cambio en su conducta y su modo de ver la vida, por otra parte, Mizu sigue con el mismo objetivo motivada por el odio y la venganza, aunque es un personaje con muchos matices y la vemos en diferentes etapas de su vida, incluyendo cuando fue una ama de casa normal, vemos su proceso de transformación en un ser humano aparentemente sin empatía que solo piensa en si misma y en cumplir su objetivo, aunque en realidad tiene códigos que respeta, no es una villana, no desea lastimar a quien nunca le ha hecho daño a ella, pero tampoco una heroína, de hecho es una antihéroe.

One thing I definitely enjoyed was the fights. It's clear that every detail was taken care of, as they're the central focus of the series. The movements are very realistic and add an extra touch of tension to the story. Each character uses a different technique, and this speaks volumes about each character's personality. For example, Mizu's style is light and elegant but precise, just look at this scene.

Algo que disfruté sin lugar a dudas fueron los combates, se nota que cuidaron todos los detalles porque son el eje central de la serie, los movimientos son muy realistas y le añaden un toque extra de tensión a la historia. Cada personaje maneja una técnica distinta y esto dice mucho de la personalidad de cada quien, por ejemplo el estilo de Mizu es ligero y elegante pero certero, solo observen esta escena.

Anyway, this series is a gem. I can't wait to see the second season. It looks like it'll be great, so I'm really looking forward to it 😃. For now, that's all I have to say about the series and what I found to be the most interesting elements. Thanks for reading my review 😉 See you later!

Hello Hello internet people! How are you? I just finished watching this Netflix series that caught my attention since I read the synopsis and saw the trailer, at the beginning the most striking thing is its animation but as soon as you watch the first of the 8 episodes you realize that it has a great depth, and despite being a fictional story it has a lot of historical material. I'm talking about Blue Eyed Samurai, a story set in Japan in the 1600's, when Mizu (a girl with a stony character), has had to live with the stigma of being mixed race, trying to hide her blue eyes that are the representative sign of her mixed race, which makes her be seen before the society of that time as an aberration and even as a "demon". Since she was a child Mizu had to pretend to be a boy to avoid being found and killed, and in the process she swears revenge on the foreigner who outraged her mother, for which she becomes an expert samurai, capable of defeating anyone.

Acabo de terminar de ver esta serie de Netflix que me llamó la atención desde que leí la sinopsis y vi el trailer, al inicio lo más llamativo es su animación pero en cuanto vez el primero de los 8 episodios te das cuenta que tiene una gran profundidad, y a pesar de ser una historia de ficción tiene mucho material histórico. Les hablo de Samurai de ojos azules, una historia ambientada en Japón de los años 1600, cuando Mizu (una chica de carácter pétreo), ha tenido que vivir con el estigma de ser mestiza, tratando de ocultar sus ojos azules que son el signo representativo de su mestizaje, lo cuál la hace ver ante la sociedad de esa época como una aberración y hasta como un "demonio". Desde que era una niña Mizu tuvo que fingir ser varón para evitar ser encontrada y asesinada, y en el proceso jura venganza de aquel extranjero que ultrajó a su madre, para lo cuál se vuelve una experta samurai, capaz de vencer a cualquiera.

I think the first thing I must do in this review is to clarify that this is an animated series for adults as it has very but very explicit scenes of sex and extreme violence, therefore it is far from romanticization, Mizu maybe could remind you in a way to Mulan, you know, very empowered female character who saved a whole nation, however Mizu is different, she is far from being a protagonist and perfect, at the beginning her motivation is not honor but revenge and the hatred she feels, she is a deep and complex character, but it is so well written that you find her totally convincing, it has not been easy for her to live hidden under the "mask" of a man, it was the only way to be respected if you lived in the XVII century, and she also worked hard to acquire all the skills she has today.

Creo que lo primero que debo hacer en esta review es aclarar que esta es una serie animada para adultos ya que tiene escenas muy pero muy explícitas de sexo y violencia extrema, por lo tanto está lejos de la romanización, Mizu tal vez podría recordarte de cierta manera a Mulán, ya sabes, personaje femenino muy empoderado que salvó a toda una nación, sin embargo Mizu es distinta, ella está lejos de ser una protagonista y perfecta, al inicio su motivación no es el honor sino la venganza y el odio que siente, es un personaje profundo y complejo, pero está tan bien escrito que te resulta totalmente convincente, para ella no ha sido fácil vivir oculta bajo la "mascara" de hombre, era las única manera de hacerse respetar si vivías en el siglo XVII, y además trabajó arduamente para adquirir todas las habilidades que posee hoy en día.

The series is realistic because it does not pretend to romanticize or exalt violence and revenge in any way, it only shows the social, physical, moral and psychological consequences of that decision. At the same time it shows us the social struggles, class wars and life in general from different points of view, starting with the poor and marginalized (useful for the high society but at the same time disposable) going through the prostitutes who can be great spies, until reaching the feudal lords whose loyalty can change according to their convenience, and it is set in the Edo period, one full of political and social changes.

La serie resulta realista porque no pretende romantizar o exaltar la violencia y la venganza de ninguna manera, tan solo muestra cuales son las consecuencias sociales, físicas, morales y psicológicas de esa decisión. Al mismo tiempo nos muestra las luchas sociales, las guerras de clases y la vida en general desde diferentes puntos de vista, comenzando por los pobres y marginados (Útiles para la alta sociedad pero al mismo tiempo desechables) pasando por las prostitutas quienes pueden resultar grandes espías, hasta llegar a los señores feudales cuya lealtad puede cambiar según su conveniencia, y es que está ambientada en el período Edo, uno lleno de cambios políticos y sociales.

Also the series shows you that when you have a very defined goal in your life nothing and no one can stop you, not even any disability, condition or prejudice, for example Mizu was not stopped by the fact of being a woman, she looked for a way to get ahead to earn respect, she is not characterized by her physical strength but by her skills with the sword, her agility and speed, but my favorite character is Ringo because besides being determined he is very noble and has high moral and ethical codes, he is motivated by his desire to be better every day, and has never felt incapable by the fact of not having hands, in fact he himself made tools that he uses as "prosthesis" and that serve for different purposes.

También la serie te muestra que cuando tienes un objetivo muy definido en tu vida nada ni nadie puede detenerte, ni siquiera alguna discapacidad, condición o prejuicios, por ejemplo a Mizu no la detuvo el hecho de ser mujer, buscó la forma de salir adelante para ganarse el respeto, a ella no la caracteriza su fuerza física sino sus habilidades con la espada, su agilidad y rapidez, pero mi personaje favorito es Ringo porque además de ser determinado es muy noble y tiene altos códigos morales y éticos, a él lo motivan sus ganas de ser mejor cada día, y jamás se ha sentido incapaz por el hecho de no tener manos, de hecho él mismo fabricó herramientas que usa a modo de "prótesis" y que sirven para distintos propósitos.

A few weeks ago I saw what is possibly one of the best series of last year and that was Blue Eye Samurai, this series I had only read some post on Twitter/X where it was highly recommended, but I had not heard at all about the story, although logically I knew it was going to be about a samurai who would have blue eyes, as the name of the series itself indicates. Something that surprised me about this series was the length of its episodes, since they last approximately between 40 and 1 hour in total, which makes it a series of some duration, but despite that it does not become at all dense to watch, but quite the opposite, since the way in which the events of this series advance maintain a very good and satisfactory rhythm, although they also take their time in certain scenes to create an excellent visual and narrative atmosphere.

Blue Eye Samurai is a story of love, betrayal and especially revenge, set in the Edo period of Japan, we follow the story of Mizu, the protagonist of this story, which since childhood has been discriminated and persecuted for being born with blue eyes, because at that time Mizu's mother had a "relationship" with a "white man"; for later Japan to be completely closed to foreigners. So due to all that Mizu went through during her childhood being the product of a "relationship" between a Japanese woman and a "white man"; she was born with blue eyes, so she will embark on a quest to kill the only four "white men" that existed at that time before her birth and thus find out who her real father is. The whole adventure is full of action, blood, nudity, lots of death and the occasional comic moment.

Blue Eye Samurai is an animated series that visually looks spectacular, there are many moments where pausing the screen could easily be a wallpaper because of how spectacular some landscapes and places look. I don't know what animation style this series uses, but it reminds me of the style called "cel-shading", which is a style used in many video games, maybe it's not that same style, because I really don't know if that graphic engine is can be used in a series, but it reminded me a lot of that. The action scenes are another aspect that stands out too much in this series, all the action moments and fight choreographies look spectacular, very dynamic and very fluid.

The series shows us, in a certain way, as it has its big changes, how the Edo period was and how certain aspects of the nobility and society worked, although of course, with several things changed argumentatively, since this series does not seek to be 100% faithful to what happened. The interpretations of the characters also stand out, the actors managed to demonstrate very well the personalities of the most important characters of the story, even having a great change in them with respect to how they were at the beginning of the series until the end of the first season, since the story of Blue Eye Samurai is unfinished and leaves you wanting to see more and know how Mizu will be able to achieve his plan of revenge.

Hace unas semanas vi la que posiblemente sea una de las mejores series del año pasado y esa esa Blue Eye Samurai, esta serie tan solo había leído alguno que otro post en Twitter/X donde la recomendaban mucho, pero no me había enterado para nada sobre que iba la historia, aunque lógicamente sabía que se iba a tratar de un samurái que tendría los ojos azules, como bien lo indica el nombre de la serie en sí. Algo que me sorprendió de esta serie era la duración de sus episodios, ya que duran aproximadamente entre 40 y 1 hora en total, lo que la hace una serie de cierta duración, pero a pesar de eso no se torna para nada densa de mirar, sino todo lo contrario, ya que la forma en cómo avanzan los acontecimientos de esta serie mantienen un ritmo muy bueno y satisfactorio, aunque también se toman su tiempo en ciertas escenas para de esta manera crear una atmosfera tanto visual y narrativa excelente.

Blue Eye Samurai es una historia de amor, traiciones y especialmente de venganza, ambientado en la época Edo de Japón, seguimos la historia de Mizu, protagonista de esta historia, la cual desde muy pequeña ha sido discriminada y perseguida por haber nacido con los ojos azules, debido a que en aquella época la madre de Mizu tuvo una “relación” con un “hombre blanco”; para posteriormente Japón ser completamente cerrados ante los extranjeros. Por lo que debido a todo lo que paso Mizu durante su niñez al ser el producto de una “relación” entre una japonesa y un “hombre blanco”; ella nació con los ojos azules, por lo que se embarcará en una búsqueda para matar a los únicos cuatro “hombres blancos” que había en aquel entonces antes de su nacimientos y de esta forma encontrar quien es su verdadero padre. Toda esta aventura está llena de acción, sangre, desnudismo, mucha muerte y alguno que otro momento cómico.

Blue Eye Samurai es una serie animada que visualmente se ve espectacular, hay muchos momentos donde al pausar la pantalla podría ser fácilmente un wallpaper debido a lo espectacular que se miran algunos paisajes y lugares. No sé qué estilo de animación utiliza esta serie, pero me recuerda al estilo llamado “cel-shading”, el cual es un estilo utilizado en muchos videojuegos, quizás no sea ese mismo estilo, porque realmente no sé si ese motor gráfico es se pueda utilizar en una serie, pero me recordó muchísimo a eso. Las escenas de acción son otro aspecto que destaca demasiado en esta serie, todos los momentos de acción y las coreografías de peleas se ven espectacular, muy dinámicos y con mucha fluidez.

La serie nos muestra, en cierta manera, ya que tiene sus grandes cambios, como era la época Edo y cómo funcionaban ciertos aspectos de la nobleza y de la sociedad, aunque por supuesto, con varias cosas cambiadas argumentalmente, ya que esta serie no busca ser 100% fiel a lo sucedido. Las interpretaciones de los personajes también destacan bastante, los actores lograron demostrar muy bien las personalidades de aquellos personajes más importantes de la historia, incluso habiendo un gran cambio en ellos con respecto a cómo eran en un inicio de la serie hasta el final de la primera temporada, ya que la historia de Blue Eye Samurai queda inconclusa y te deja con muchas ganas de seguir viendo más y saber cómo Mizu va a poder lograr su plan de venganza.

Encontrar una serie o película animada que realmente valga la pena es una tarea titánica, son muy pocas, contadas con los dedos de la manos, las que realmente valen la pena de darles un vistazo. Blue Eye Samurai es una serie que mucho me habían recomendado y que por cuestiones de tiempo no le había dado la oportunidad pero amigos, como me arrepiento de no haberla visto antes y lo digo por dos razones: la animación es de las cosas más espectaculares que he visto y porque todo lo que tenga que ver con la historia y cultura del antiguo Japón suele ser muy interesante para mi ya que me llama poderosamente la atención; entender su funcionamiento con una serie tan bien hecha es una maravilla.

Finding an animated series or movie that is really worthwhile is a titanic task, there are very few, counted on the fingers of one's hands, the ones that are really worth a look. Blue Eye Samurai is a series that had been recommended to me a lot and for time reasons I had not given it a chance but friends, I regret not having seen it before and I say this for two reasons: the animation is one of the most spectacular things I've seen and because everything that has to do with the history and culture of ancient Japan is usually very interesting to me because it attracts my attention powerfully; to understand how it works with a series so well done is a marvel.

En pocas palabras esto es una historia en donde la venganza y el honor son los grandes protagonistas, son los motores que mueven los hilos de casi todos los personajes que acá veremos. De por si las personas japonesas tiene un alto nivel de honor y respeto hacia el otro, esa parte de la cultura que viene de periodos antiguos incluso hoy en día se sigue manteniendo. Samuráis, el famoso Shogunato, hombres de espadas y Katanas, Geishas, el teatro Kabuki y hasta el Harakiri son algunas de las cosas que están presente y que se disfrutan mucho. Creo que como muchas veces le he tirado piedras a Netflix por la pobreza de su contenido hay que decir que con esta serie, cuya segunda temporada ya está confirmada, la sacaron de home run. Así que sin más hablemos de esta gran serie animada la cual tendría que ser vista por todos.

In a few words, this is a story where revenge and honor are the main protagonists, they are the engines that pull the strings of almost all the characters that we will see here. Japanese people have a high level of honor and respect towards the other, that part of the culture that comes from ancient periods even today is still maintained. Samurai, the famous Shogunate, men with swords and Katanas, Geishas, the Kabuki theater and even Harakiri are some of the things that are present and are very enjoyable. I think as many times I have thrown stones at Netflix for the poverty of its content it must be said that with this series, whose second season is already confirmed, they hit it out of home run. So without further ado let's talk about this great animated series which should be seen by everyone.

Como dije esta historia se centra en la venganza y es una la cual está consumiendo a Mizu, quien es una experta y muy habilidosa espadachina la cual tendrá que emprender un camino muy peligroso para lograr concretar su objetivo. Estamos en el periodo Edo del Japón, uno el cual estaba manejado por hombres y la mujer solo quedaba para el rol de esposa sumisa. Mizu además de ser mujer también es mestiza, otra de las grandes tragedias de aquellos tiempos ya que denotaba que no se era una japonesa pura lo que significaba un gran problema ya que estas personas eran vistas como Demonios. Como ven era muchos retos por los que Mizu tenía que pasar, tenía casi todo en contra para concretar su venganza pero aún así con un temple de hierro no descansará hasta conseguirlo.

As I said this story focuses on revenge and it is one that is consuming Mizu, who is an expert and very skilled swordswoman who will have to undertake a very dangerous path to achieve her goal. We are in the Edo period of Japan, one which was managed by men and women were only left for the role of submissive wife. Mizu, besides being a woman, is also a half-breed, another of the great tragedies of those times, since she was not a pure Japanese woman, which meant a big problem since these people were seen as demons. As you can see there were many challenges that Mizu had to go through, she had almost everything against her to achieve her revenge but still with an iron temper she will not rest until she gets it.

En el camino va conociendo ciertos personajes con los que irá interactuando y haciendo un espacio hacia su meta. Un aprendiz que lo que tiene de grande lo tiene de noble, un samurai al que le quedó herido su honor y para recuperarlo tendrá que enfrentarse a Mizu al mismo tiempo que la protege para que nada le pase y una princesa de un gran señor que lo único que quiere es ser libre y tomar sus propias decisiones. En el camino veremos una radiografía de cómo eran las cosas en el siglo XVII en Japón en una mezcla fascinante de cultura y sangre. Mizu nos demostrará que la venganza para ella es la única opción, pero contra quién? - ah, tendrán que ver la serie.

Uno de los grandes puntos a favor es la animación, les diría que es perfecta. Todo de ella es impresionante, los gestos, los movimientos fluidos tanto de los elementos naturales como de las personas, las texturas, desde como se ve el fuego, el agua, la sangre, hasta las expresiones faciales, los colores, todo está logrado para que el resultado sea el óptimo que terminamos viendo. Esto nos lleva a que las escenas sean de una calidad infinita, las batallas que se dan están al nivel de los mejores animes que ustedes recuerden. Esta no es una serie para niños ya que hay elementos sexuales explícitos, desnudez y mucha violencia acompañada de baños de sangre, decapitaciones, desmembramientos de cuerpos y mutilaciones; todos los elementos necesarios para que visualmente tenga una poderio y profundidad importante.

La trama es bastante sencilla, es una persona que va tras otra pero que en el camino tendrá que sortear obstáculos hasta llegar a él. El atractivo de verdad es el viaje y todo lo que Mizu vive y padece antes de llegar a su destino. Es aquí en donde veremos todas esas referencias que hacen que además del factor vengativo seamos participes de toda la movida cultural y como se manejaban la sociedad en esas épocas. Es un baño cultural muy bueno, es como abrir una ventana al pasado y redescubrir muchas cosas; quizás digo todo esto porque soy muy fanático de todo lo que tiene que ver con el Japón pero es que aunque no lo seas estoy seguro que terminarás disfrutando mucho de esta gran serie.

Pero la trama tiene otro lado y es el que involucra a las personas como tal. Me gustó mucho todo el tema de la honorabilidad que rodea a ciertos personajes, como les comentaba no es algo que está muy alejado de la realidad. El tema de las Geishas también es atractivo y el cómo ellas son parte importante de la sociedad, el manejo del poder basado en el futuro y en los legados, como los extranjeros eran vistos de una terrible manera; al final socialmente es una joya también, la historia no se queda en lo banal que sería matar por venganza, todo tiene un trasfondo muy interesante que hace que la serie no sea algo animado y ya, hay mucha profundidad porque es una historia muy bien contada con unos personajes muy bien estructurados.

In feudal Japan, as in every culture, there were and still are beliefs and customs, at some point in history, the mestizos were very badly seen in these lands, a little of this we can appreciate through series or movies, it is interesting how often the content leads you to investigate a little more about it, so with this idea, I saw a series that reflects a little of how the mestizos were seen in feudal Japan.

First things first, this series we could say that in part is historical, as it gives us a small sample of how I mentioned were seen and treated the half-breeds in Japan, so we remember that in the movie 47 Ronin, we see a little of it, in it the protagonist Kai (Keanu Reeves) is marginalized for being a half-breed.

En el Japón feudal, como en toda cultura, hubo y todavía hay creencias y costumbres, en algún momento histórico, los mestizos fueron muy mal vistos en estas tierras, un poco de esto lo podemos apreciar por medio de series o películas, es interesante como muchas veces el contenido te lleva a investigar un poco más al respecto, así que con esta idea, vi una serie que refleja un poco el como eran vistos los mestizos en el Japón feudal.

Samurái de ojos azules

Primero lo primero, esta serie podríamos decir que en parte es histórica, pues nos da una pequeña muestra de como ya mencione eran vistos y tratados los mestizos en Japón, así recordamos que en la película 47 Ronin, vemos un poco de ello, en ella el protagonista Kai (Keanu Reeves) es marginado por ser mestizo.

Ahora bien, volviendo a la serie, básicamente nos narra la búsqueda de un grandioso espadachín de ojos azules, que busca a los posibles hombres blancos que pudieron ser sus padres, pero para complicar más la situación, no estamos en presencia de un hombre, hablamos de una mujer y en la búsqueda de aceptación termina bajo la tutela de un herrero ciego.

Por otro lado, recordemos que en el Japón feudal existían una gran cantidad de mitos y creencias populares sobre criaturas y espíritus de diferentes tipos, entre ellos los onryō, estos eran espíritus con ojos azules, los cuales por lo regular eran femeninos y cuyo propósito al regresar era buscar venganza, así que nuestra protagonista, solía cubrir sus ojos para no ser llamada o comprada con estos espíritus y además para evitar se dieran cuenta de que era mestiza.

Por otra parte, esta serie tiene estupenda animación y trama, batallas épicas entre espadachines y también podemos ver cómo nos muestran parte del pasado de los personajes para comprender un poco más los motivos que mueven a cada uno.

La época en la que podría estar ubicado este anime es a mediados el siglo XVII donde Japón cerro sus fronteras a los extranjeros y expulso a los extranjeros que estaban en su país, así vemos como Mizu, la protagonista hace hasta lo imposible para lograr encontrar a uno de los hombres blancos, que permaneció escondido en Japón, que podría ser su padre y aunque es extraordinariamente hábil con la espada, muchas veces pierde de vista su norte y no tiene presente las consecuencias de lo que hará, pero en su camino tras cruzarse con otros personajes su carácter se va moldeando.

Lamentablemente, esta es la primera temporada de esta serie y quedamos con muchas dudas sobre lo que pasara con Mizu, al igual que con otros personajes, cuáles con los nuevos descubrimientos que ella hará y los destinos de algunos otros que tomaron decisiones que cambian muchas cosas, pero sobre todo el saber si habrá una segunda temporada de esta serie.
