Hello everyone, fans of good stories! I hope you're feeling great today, dear Hive community. This time, I want to share my thoughts on the movie Challengers. I saw it last night, and I'm somewhere between amazed, confused, and totally captivated by what I saw. At first, you think, "Oh, tennis, sports..." but this movie blows that idea out of the water. Challengers is like a tangle, a very complex web woven with toxic passion, loyalties that shift constantly, and obsessions that have been there for years. It's a movie about a love triangle that evolves over time, with tennis as a backdrop. But it actually goes far beyond sports. It speaks to that need we all have to connect with someone, to feel powerful, and to know who we are.

I started it thinking I was going to see a normal romance or a typical sports drama, but I was surprised because this is much deeper and unpredictable... from the first minutes, the film grabs you by showing you the characters who are already grown up, already grown and right, charismatic, mysterious and full of secrets from a past that intrigues you a lot, from there, boom, they throw you into the past with flashbacks that show you how this toxic triangle was formed, and these jumps in time, although they keep you glued to your seat wanting to know what's up with the characters, can also be a double-edged sword. In the first half, they give it a touch of mystery that hooks you in, but I confess that in the second half I wanted the story to be more linear, it's like being on a roller coaster that never stops spinning...

It either tires you out or excites you, for me, it's both, hahaha... but the central thing about the film is the explosive relationship between these three tennis players, whose lives and ambitions intersect in a way that feels natural but also dangerously manipulative. Each interaction is charged with intensity, each glance, each shift in power, each confession in your ear... it reminds you that this isn't just about winning or losing on the court, it's a story about using others to rise, about that crazy desire to be seen and to belong, even if you get hurt along the way... For me, who loves to analyze power dynamics in relationships, I was totally hooked on this emotional game of tug-of-war.

Let me tell you something that stayed with me after watching this movie, is that this film makes you think a lot about what relationships are like in real life, where love and competition are there, together, all the time... the characters are like addicts to that adrenaline rush of chasing the other, each one manipulating the other to see who has control. It's a twisted, but fascinating way of showing how passion can turn into obsession, and how affection transforms into a field... speaking of battles, tennis matches are on another level! Forget boring sports scenes, this is like a dance, a choreography of emotions, with super-fast editing and a way of filming that blows your mind. There's a moment when the camera becomes the tennis ball, bouncing all over the court, and it immerses you in the chaos and brutal energy of the story.

Now, if you like a movie that isn't afraid to show skin, that is sensual, you are going to love this one, I sign it, it is full of sensuality and drama, but with a security, a confidence that only a director like Luca Guadagnino can achieve, the same one who gave us "Call Me By Your Name" and set the bar extremely high in passionate love stories, brings his unique style to every scene, you can tell he likes to tell "weird" love stories, so to speak, and here he explores a love triangle that is not only "sexy", but is incredibly complex, and look, even if you are not a fan of this type of erotic tension in movies, the performances are so good that they will change your mind, really.

Let's talk about the performances, because I have to take my hat off to Josh O'Connor. His performance mesmerizes you, it's that simple. The guy manages to convey all of his character's internal conflict with a subtlety that impresses, I mean, he balances desire, ambition, vulnerability, and even evil, all in one... his character is the most human, the most complex, the one that feels most real and, I don't know, you end up connecting with him more. Zendaya also does super well, she brings a mix of strength and mystery to her role, but I feel like her character doesn't have as much depth as O'Connor's, even though her presence is key in the film, she's like the center that keeps all the emotional tension turning... those constant flashbacks not only give you context, but they also show you little by little who these characters really are, I ended up still thinking and turning the puzzle over, trying to understand how the past shaped who they are now...

This wave of time jumps works incredibly to generate suspense, although I have to admit that sometimes I felt they were more like a trick than something necessary for the story. But hey, that speaks to Guadagnino's daring style, who dares to play with the structure in such an unusual way, at times, the story feels like it's purposefully messy, as if imitating how chaotic love itself is... and thinking about it, isn't that how life is? Full of memories, regrets, and passions all jumbled together...

Visually, Challengers is a spectacle. The photography is vibrant, full of energy, transforming the tennis matches into a mind-blowing play of light and shadow. You can tell the cinematographer had a lot of fun with the camera. The editing is lightning fast, with quick cuts and unusual angles that give you a sense of urgency and constant excitement. There's one particular scene, in the middle of a match, that took my breath away. It was as if the sport itself became a reflection of the characters' struggles, and that's when I realized this wasn't just a tennis movie, but one about how to emotionally survive life's adversities.

But I know that not everyone is going to love Challengers, although it has a lot of good things, the film is one of those that divides opinions, you know what I mean? Guadagnino's style, you know how he is, he loves to play with time, add soap opera-style drama and make everything super sensual... well, that's not going to suit everyone, some might get a headache from so many time jumps, so many flashbacks, personally, I liked the experience, but I do admit that sometimes it slowed down a bit, but that's how the film is, daring, complex and a little messy, and I think that makes it feel more real, life is not linear, not at all.

It's a lot of memories, impulsive decisions that one makes without thinking and moments that mark you forever... after thinking about it carefully, I give Challengers an 8.5/10... it's not perfect, so many flashbacks sometimes get a bit tiring and take you out of the emotion a bit, but the movie is ambitious, the performances are brutal and how it dares to show this toxic love triangle makes it a cinematic experience that is not easily forgotten, I ended with mixed emotions and thinking a lot, as if understanding a little better how complicated and strange human relationships are... so you know, if you like intense love stories, with psychological twists and a visual style that blows your mind, it's a movie that you have to see yes or yes. It's an emotional journey with curves, but worth it, now tell me, what did you think? And well, that's all for today, take care, see you in the next reviews, byebye.

I recently decided to revisit one of my favorite movies of 2024: Luca Guadagnino's "Challengers," a sports drama starring Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist that, despite having a fairly intimate nature, ends up being one of the most epic stories I've had the opportunity to see in a long time.

    1000126944.jpg Source

And while the film is presented to us as a typical story in which we will closely follow a love triangle between two tennis players and the woman of their dreams (which is also narrated in a non-linear chronological way), a deeper inspection of it allows us to glimpse its true themes: love, the pursuit of dreams, lust, and the eternal search for perfection.

In Challengers we will meet Art and Patrick, two young tennis players who seem to have been friends for a lifetime, but who have very different expectations for their future.

    1000126960.jpg

    1000126961.jpg

Art, on the one hand, feels that it is necessary to go to college, and feels that his professional career as a tennis player can wait a few years. On the other hand, Patrick, just as talented as Art with the racket, can't wait to start playing at a professional level.

The real breaking point in their friendship arises when they meet Tashi, a young tennis player with a very promising future, and who unconsciously decides to put them in competition for her love.

Unfortunately, Tashi's career is abruptly cut short by an accident in the middle of one of her matches, so she must give up her dreams and dedicate herself to training her husband Art, who ended up keeping her heart after Patrick left her.

Although in terms of premise everything may sound quite formulaic, I must admit that I have omitted an absurd amount of details within the relationship of these characters, and I honestly feel that the only organic way to absorb them organically is by watching the movie.

Challengers works for several reasons, not only because it has a pretty solid synopsis and very well-written characters who know how to pull it off, but also because it is an audiovisual gem on many levels that takes advantage of the chaos and tension generated by its protagonists to explode before our eyes as if it were a Japanese anime.

Guadagnino has a particularly fast-paced directing style in Challengers, and even those scenes in which we have nothing more than a couple of characters arguing feel like an extremely aggressive tennis match.

Likewise, this fast-paced style is very well supported by the soundtrack by Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor, who did a great job and it is almost offensive that they are not nominated for this year's Oscars.

    1000126962.jpg

    1000126959.jpg

    1000126958.jpg

Everything is very carefully done in Challengers, the costumes of its characters, their body language and even those moments that could seem like filler on a first viewing.

It is a brave film, full of eroticism, emotion and funny moments.

Throughout the years there have been many love relationships of different types and each of them with some touch that characterizes them, friends or strangers who become a couple with someone and thus begins to forge his life. During that period many things can happen, trips, discussions and aspects that are in the relationship and even sometimes the motivation to shine in a sport as has happened to many in real life and is something to admire. This same director manages to capture it in an installment known as Desafiantes that was released this year and will be a story where romance and sports come into play.

It is a romance movie which is not my style, but at the same time there is sport and I like that, that is why this story is suitable for all ages and when we realize it has details that can be appreciated in real life and perhaps many have experienced it. Therefore the delivery, I found it interesting and from that first moment we see a young woman whose husband is a great professional tennis player and the affection and love they have for each other is very great, but things change when a third party appears and is known to them and that's where it gets interesting and we wonder can the three be together, will the sport affect something, will there be that grudge between the couple with a third party? And many other crazy things.

    image.png Source

The production seemed a little slow to me, a lot of filler and therefore creates that void in the plot and at the same time the presence of the third party in a relationship, no matter how much people accept it will always create that discomfort and no matter how much trust there is, it will not be the same. That's where a lot of elements come into play that have to be faced so that everything goes well, since a bad move or a decision in that trio of people can ruin everything. Something like that has never happened to me and it really is a situation that leaves a lot to talk about and can be frowned upon by society and even cause harm to anyone, now from the point of view of the woman in the delivery are very sincere and in the head has both young people and that is why the delivery is going through a very strong rhythm.

    image.png Source

The effects of this film and how they managed to recreate each scene are quite good even though there are very few that are appreciated, by the same fact that everything is there in the same circle, but one of the things that did stand out and without that the film would not be the same is the theme of sport, since that world is something incredible and everything can be achieved with motivation and perseverance and that's why seeing those young women playing tennis and having to challenge themselves on a court and knowing that they have the opportunity to win a prize gives it a touch, since on the part of love and the sexual part as a couple is simple and they only seek to relax that a relationship can be open.

Despite details that make the film a little weak it has a great presence of very good actors who are recognized and in each of the films where they go out they put a great touch, where one of those is Zendaya that despite having a demanding role knows how to carry the situation and goes playing every moment as it should be, since something bad affects everyone. While the young people have done a couple of other jobs in other movies and in this one they give that touch of emotion to the relationship and how it also has to face the day to day of a relationship of three, that is why the three young people are the ones in charge of being able to get ahead with this movie.

    image.png Source

A film that can perhaps receive a lot of good and bad reviews and in my case it would be a production that I would only see once and to see something in a style that combines romance and sport they played it well, leaving a great open ending in the film. However, for me they are two important things and that is how the motivation of a couple can be of great help to achieve great things and at the same time to be in the difficult moments. As well as the issue of trust and being willing to receive a third party, where that is already part of the people, so it will be a production full of many emotions.

The 2024 film Challengers, where you can watch the rivalry of 3 young tennis players, their complex relationships and the reflections of passionate rivalry, ambition and love in the world of sports, is quite impressive in the genre of romantic and psychological drama, and I can say that it gives the audience emotional intensity with its dialogues.

    [source](https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/tq8COKsI99Bivjd4CZIYVGoKcIx.jpg)

The main theme of the movie is the rivalries, contradictions, passions and love stories that develop between 3 young tennis players from the beginning to the end of their careers. Their struggles on the courts extend to their private lives and their rivalries not only on the courts but also in every aspect of life are made interesting.

2 childhood friends, Art and Patrick, fall in love with a late female tennis player named Tashi at a tournament and their friendship begins to fray. The movie then turns into a rivalry between the sports and personal lives of these 3 tennis players. While the on-court rivalry develops within the rules, in their private lives the rivalry becomes immoral and unethical.

There will definitely be some who will question the story of the movie and what happens between the characters in terms of moral values, but if you watch the movie as a movie, I think you will enjoy the story and the sweet-hard competition between them. I can say that I liked the drama added to the romantic side of the movie and the psychological genre that tires the mind with some scenes.

    [source](https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/504GSaoxBA5nLlcMsJfjzLZEKUp.jpg)

The past and present presented in a mixed way makes the story of the movie more interesting. While the characters live in the present and reflect it to the audience, the reasons for the rivalry from the past and the complex relationships between them are questioned by the audience. In general, the story is extremely intriguing, while the mystery of what might happen is preserved.

Even after watching the movie, you can't tell which man Tashi is in love with. While you feel the court rivalry between Art and Patrick very much, in the rivalry about their love for Tashi; you can't distinguish which one's feelings are real. This creates a lot of curiosity in the story. Frankly, I think the screenwriter deserves praise.

Challengers will definitely remain in my mind as one of the enjoyable productions to watch. The most important information I can say about the movie is the greatness of the dialogues between the characters and their rivalries that spread to every moment of life.

    [source](https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/bxmiZSQhQ581Y3vbEgpTtmEjt67.jpg)

I highly recommend you to watch the movie, if you watch it quietly and calmly, apart from the dialogues and the reflections of the characters, I recommend you to pay attention to the competition aspect. Not every athlete's life may have such distortions, but I am sure there are similarities in terms of competition.

Thank you for being here and for reading. I wish you a good weekend and I wish those who are going to watch the movie a good time. Take care, goodbye!
