"Winner of Everything Everywhere..." - Opinion of the Academy Awards [ESP|ENG]@nameless161191d

El pasado domingo se llevó a cabo la nonagésima quinta edición de los Premios a la Academia en dónde la gran ganadora fue "Everything Everywhere All at Once" una película que usa lo absurdo, junto a la comedia, artes marciales, acción, ciencia-ficción y drama para relatar la historia de una mujer la cual siente que su vida no es lo que esperaba y justamente en el momento que quiere terminar con todo, ella se verá envuelta en un conflicto dentro del multi universo en dónde junto a sus otras versiones deberá ser frente a un enemigo que justamente también quiere poner fin no solo a una relación, sino a todos; es ese instante en dónde "Evelyn" deberá demostrar diferentes facetas, versiones de una misma persona para encontrar la manera adecuada para salvar a todos en todas partes a la misma vez.

Recuerdo que al momento de ver el primer trailer de este film, fue algo que no pude creer, estaba completamente fascinado por la idea de ver a Michelle Yeoh interpretar a diferentes personajes y salvar no solo a un mundo, sino a muchos otros; quería ver una historia llena de ciencia-ficción, artes marciales y humor y este interés a la vez creó preocupación porque no sabía si conectaría con el público que la mayoría estaba muy pendiente de la producción del MCU el cual también hace referencia al multi universo. Cabe destacar de que este film fue estrenado en marzo del 2022 y por no estrenarse en los cines de Venezuela en ese tiempo, tuve que esperar hasta el mes de junio para poder verla y corroborar si las buenas críticas que recibió eran ciertas.

I remember when I saw the first trailer of this film, it was something I could not believe, I was completely fascinated by the idea of seeing Michelle Yeoh playing different characters and saving not only one world, but many others; I wanted to see a story full of science fiction, martial arts and humor and this interest at the same time created concern because I did not know if it would connect with the public that most were very aware of the production of the MCU which also refers to the multi-universe. It is worth mentioning that this film was released in March 2022 and because it was not released in Venezuelan theaters at that time, I had to wait until June to see it and corroborate if the good reviews it received were true.

Justamente al momento de ver el film realicé una reseña en dónde a pesar de disfrutar todo lo que quería ver del film, con respecto a la ciencia-ficción, artes marciales y comedia, debo decir lo que más me impactó fue la manera que tuvieron "The Daniels", Daniel Kwan y Daniel Scheinert, en relatar la historia de una familia descendientes de inmigrantes que buscan el por fin conseguir el llamado "Sueño Americano", pero la realidad es que esa lucha o añoranza crea expectativas que en vez de crear una unión familiar, al final crea es una brecha desde la frustración y resentimiento; justamente esa parte de la historia es tan importante que funciona de base para después desarrollar todo el caos porque así como sucede en un universo, también sucede en otros más dónde un mismo personaje debe lidiar con diferentes resultados sobre si alcanzó o no cumplir con los deseos de otros. Lo que acabo de describir es lo que en mi opinión hace importante a esta historia que ha creado una barrera para quienes no aceptan el hecho de ver un film diferente, pero a la vez crear un alto grado de aceptación en quien se puede identificar con esta historia que reúne tristeza, soledad, decepción, pero también oportunidad de revertir todo lo malo y así crear una fuerte unión.

What I have just described is what in my opinion makes this story important and has created a barrier for those who do not accept the fact of seeing a different film, but at the same time creates a high degree of acceptance in those who can identify with this story that brings together sadness, loneliness, disappointment, but also the opportunity to reverse all the bad and thus create a strong union.

El hecho de que esta película a casi cumplir un año de su estreno en los cines norteamericanos y que desde ese momento creó una ola de opiniones positivas por su historia, dirección, edición y en casi todas las actuaciones de sus protagonistas, sorprende que haya ganado 264 premios de las más de 400 nominaciones que obtuvieron; en mi opinión, esa es una hazaña para un film con un presupuesto de 25 millones que se vio beneficiado no solamente por la opinión positiva de críticos, sino por la buena aceptación del público general que consiguió un buen film caracterizado por muchos géneros, pero con una historia que fluye de manera excelente. Esas opiniones positivas al estar cada vez más cerca de la entrega de premios como es el Oscar, fueron desapareciendo; opiniones en dónde la pude leer varias que comenzaban con la frase "La abandoné después de ver tan solo 20 minutos" u otra muy usada como "No entendí de que se trata" fue algo que me pareció extraño y sé que cada quien puede opinar lo que sea, pero si eres un profesional o no con respecto a la crítica a una película, por lo menos puedes ser objetivo si el film es o no de su gusto y creo que la mayoría que no les gustó EEAAO o que decidieron decir algo malo sobre este film ahora, creo que es por la necesidad de llamar la atención y esto lo digo porque no hay bases para su crítica negativa.

The fact that this film, almost a year after its release in North American theaters and that from that moment it created a wave of positive opinions for its story, direction, editing and in almost all the performances of its protagonists, it is surprising that it has won 264 awards out of the more than 400 nominations it obtained; in my opinion, that is a feat for a film with a budget of 25 million that benefited not only by the positive opinion of critics, but by the good acceptance of the general public that got a good film characterized by many genres, but with a story that flows in an excellent way. Those positive opinions, as the Oscars were getting closer and closer to the awards ceremony, were disappearing; opinions where I could read several that began with the phrase "I abandoned it after seeing only 20 minutes" or another very used as "I did not understand what it is about" was something that seemed strange to me and I know that everyone can say whatever, but if you are a professional or not with respect to the criticism of a film, at least you can be objective if the film is or isn't to your taste and I think most of those who didn't like EEAAO or who decided to say something bad about this film now, I think it's because of the need to get attention and I say this because there is no basis for their negative criticism.

Por una clara razón, los films que compiten por los premios al cine, la mayoría son estrenados en las salas de cine desde el mes de octubre en adelante; el ver a este film ganar tantos premios a la academia me hizo buscar que otro pudo cumplir esa hazaña de ser estrenado en el primer trimestre de un año y conseguir los más grandes premios en la siguiente edición de los Premios a la Academia y pude encontrar que "The Silence of the Lambs" estrenada en febrero de 1991, se convirtió en el primer film de horror en ganar el premio a Mejor Película; justamente esa característica de romper la barrera de ser el primer film de cierto género en ganar el Oscar más importante, también lo consiguió "Everything Everywhere All at Once" y es que no hay que olvidar de que este es el primer film de ciencia-ficción que consigue ese logro, esto hace inolvidable está premiación, este reconocimiento que dio la Academia a estos directores, actores, productores y demás personas envueltas en este proyecto y la convierte en algo inolvidable, algo fuera de lo común así como dijo Daniel Kwan en su discurso de aceptación al premio de Mejor Director, el cual junto a su compañero de crimen Daniel Scheinert demuestra el tema de este film, si dedicación hacia sus madres, padres, hermanos, hermanas e hijos, es un claro ejemplo de agradecimiento a quienes influyeron en la creación de esta gran película, a la verdadera "underdog" porque soy sincero al decir que es arriesgado de que este film se estrenara hace un año y deba competir contra otros que sus estrenos son más recientes y ese impacto de quién las ve este más fresco que hace un año cuando vieron EEAAO, así que es por eso entiendo el enojo o sorpresa por ver a otros films y actores no ser reconocidos, pero eso no significa que lo hecho por este film sea menor porque no lo es. Sé qué pasará años para ver otra hazaña, cómo está y que será difícil ver algo parecido a lo visto en esa última edición de los Oscars y no solo hablo de la victoria de la producción de A24 y The Daniels, me refiero a la calidad de films nominados, la cual supera en mi opinión a la lista del pasado año y posiblemente del anterior a ese y espero que en la próxima se cree un debate, sano, sobre cuál será el sucesor de Everything Everywhere All at Once.

I know that it will take years to see another feat, as it is and that it will be difficult to see something similar to what was seen in that last edition of the Oscars and I'm not just talking about the victory of the production of A24 and The Daniels, I mean the quality of nominated films, which in my opinion exceeds the list of last year and possibly the one before that and I hope that in the next one a debate will be created, healthy, about what will be the successor of Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Una vida llena de frustración, presión y poca felicidad creará un caos que deberá solucionarse en... "Everything Everywhere All at Once"

La existencia de universos alternos es un tema que siempre ha existido en libros, series de TV, anime y films; es algo que actualmente es muy visto por el uso en films y series basados en comics, pero como siempre he dicho, en el mundo del cine se puede desarrollar una idea de muchas maneras y el éxito de estas producciones estará basado en que historia se puede contar usando como base una idea que otros famosos proyectos cinematográficos, pero justamente con la nueva película distribuida y producida por A24, que en los últimos años le da libertad a directores y guionista en hacer un gran trabajo llevando a la pantalla grande historias que muy difícilmente sean desarrolladas por otras productoras y es por eso que se me hizo imposible no tener interés en un drama familiar que ocurre mientras se descubre universos alternos.

The existence of alternate universes is a theme that has always existed in books, TV series, anime and films; it is something that is currently very much seen by the use in films and series based on comics, but as I have always said, in the world of cinema an idea can be developed in many ways and the success of these productions will be based on what story can be told using as a base an idea that other famous film projects, But just with the new film distributed and produced by A24, which in recent years gives freedom to directors and screenwriters to do a great job bringing to the big screen stories that are very difficult to be developed by other production companies and that is why it was impossible for me not to be interested in a family drama that happens while discovering alternate universes.

En "Everything Everywhere All at Once" veremos la historia de "Evelyn Quan Wang", una mujer que junto a su esposo, "Waymond", manejan una lavandería y ese es uno de los muchos asuntos que mantienen su mundo ocupado y es que Evelyn, no es una mujer feliz a causa de decisiones del pasado y de responsabilidades del presente la hacen añorar tener una vida mejor, pero justamente sus deseos y tristeza afecta a quienes está a su alrededor y parece que es inminente que su mundo se derrumbe por completo, pero de forma extraordinaria y sorpresiva aparece una solución que representa a múltiples universos que están en peligro de desaparecer por un poderoso enemigo y es justamente la Evelyn de este universo la que tiene toda posibilidad de salvar todo en todas partes a la vez.

Contar la historia de un drama familiar desde el punto de vista de varios personajes en múltiples universos debe ser una de las mejores ideas que he visto en los últimos años, lo otro es que estrenar un film en una época donde grandes producciones tienen como base de sus muchos proyectos el tema de un multiuniverso es sin ninguna duda algo osado, por esta dos importantes características es que pienso que lo hecho por A24, los hermanos Russo y los directores e guionistas que se hacen llamar "The Daniels" es un gran trabajo en demostrar que no es necesario hacer un film basado en un comic, sino en crear una historia original basada en cosas cotidianas, situaciones familiares, problemas reales y maximizar con el hecho que exista múltiples universos, todo en peligro por cómo uno de los personajes principales vive en un universo que puede considerarse poco importante; lo sorprendente es que está parte de la historia y que desata la fantasía (para nombrar una característica) del film es lo que fácilmente se pueda describir sobre esta historia porque mientras se desarrolla está parte llena de acción, comedia y locura, nos van relatando las reglas que nos hace entender toda esta situación, cosa diferente es lo que considero más importante en este film lo cuales la historia de su personaje principal y todo el drama que debe vivir por decisiones, situaciones con sus padres, su esposo, que hace que se convierta en alguien que seguramente nunca quiso ser; que está historia pueda unir comedia, ciencia-ficción, fantasía, romance, drama y acción, demuestra el gran trabajo que realizó Daniel Kwan y Daniel Scheinert en el guion de esta película.

El relato de múltiples universos y todo lo que conlleva, como dije anteriormente es entendible, otra cosa es ver cada escena en dónde se desarrolla todo esté tema; justamente cada escena que muestra cada característica que tiene este film sobre múltiples mundos y su influencia en uno solo, es donde "The Daniels" demuestran otra parte de su genialidad, es sorprendente como hacen fluir cada una de las escenas en dónde hace presencia personajes de otros mundos, su dirección no solo se basa en movimientos o coreografías en las muchas escenas de combate que tiene esta película, la importancia de su trabajo va en la unión del diálogo, sean cómicas o no, en las de acción, en la música, en el cambio de vestuario y actitud de los personajes; estos directores unen cada una de estas características, de dan importancia y hacen que fluya, no me canso de usar esta palabra porque creo que es lo que define el gran trabajo que hicieron Kwan y Scheinert en este gran proyecto.

The story of multiple universes and all that it entails, as I said before is understandable, another thing is to see each scene where this theme is developed; precisely each scene that shows each characteristic that this film has about multiple worlds and its influence in one, is where "The Daniels" show another part of his genius, it is surprising how they make flow each of the scenes where characters from other worlds are present, his direction is not only based on movements or choreography in the many combat scenes that this film has, the importance of his work goes in the union of dialogue, whether comic or not, in the action scenes, in the music, in the change of costumes and attitude of the characters; I never get tired of using this word because I think it is what defines the great work that Kwan and Scheinert did in this great project.

En un momento se pensó en Jackie Chan para protagonizar está película y pienso que hubiera tenido un impacto más alto al que ha conseguido, pero siendo sincero, pienso que tener como protagonista principal a Michelle Yeoh le hizo muy bien y le dio hasta más realidad a una historia con mucha fantasía; su interpretación de diferentes versiones de un solo personaje es importante y aquí radica algo que está película puede sentirse diferente a otros que tienen este mismo tema porque "Evelyn" podrá ser alguien con una profesión diferente en cada universo, pero al final es el mismo personaje y eso le da facilidad a esta actriz en su interpretación, claro que hay cosas diferentes, pero como dije todo se basa en quien logra hacer y con esto digo que ella demuestra que es capaz de hacer cualquier cosa y para mí es maravilloso, me gusta su trabajo más que nada en el acto final aunque en toda la película es divertida y conmovedora. Sobre otros personajes como "Waymond" y "Joy", pienso que en otro tipo de historias estos personajes servían desde un principio como el ancla para que Evelyn se mantenga centrada en un solo mundo, pero estos personajes están escritos para ser protagonistas, son muy importantes y la interpretación tanto de Ke Huy Quan y Stephanie Hsu, son muy buenas, personajes obligados hacer cosas para que en algún momento puedan captar la atención de quien más aman.

At one point, Jackie Chan was thought of to star in this movie and I think he would have had a higher impact than he has achieved, but to be honest, I think having Michelle Yeoh as the main protagonist did him a lot of good and gave even more reality to a story with a lot of fantasy; her interpretation of different versions of a single character is important and here lies something that this movie can feel different from others that have this same theme because "Evelyn" may be someone with a different profession in each universe, but in the end it is the same character and that gives ease to this actress in her interpretation, of course there are different things, but as I said everything is based on who manages to do and with this I say that she shows that she is capable of doing anything and for me it is wonderful, I like her work more than anything in the final act although in the whole movie is funny and touching. About other characters like "Waymond" and "Joy", I think that in other kind of stories these characters would serve from the beginning as the anchor for Evelyn to stay focused on a single world, but these characters are written to be protagonists, they are very important and the interpretation of both Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu, are very good, characters forced to do things so that at some point they can capture the attention of the one they love the most.

Al momento del estreno de este film tuve la oportunidad de leer algunas críticas dónde reflejaban que en esta película se trataba de abordar muchos temas y eso afectaba a la historia; yo creo que esas personas no entendieron el film y únicamente se dejaron llevar por las escenas de acción y todo lo que tiene que ver con múltiples universos; el tema principal es que desencadena todo lo que deben vivir estos personajes para salvar no solo a un mundo, sino a muchos otros; sin la historia de Evelyn y su familia, no tendríamos las demás genialidades de este film y no solo hablo de las escenas de acción y comedia que podemos ver en el segundo acto sino en todo lo que sucede a la vez en su tercero y final que es lo que más me ha gustado. Siempre he dicho que el mundo del cine es difícil ser original y que todo depende de cómo se debe contar una historia y al ver este film pienso que The Daniels acertaron con todo lo que pienso en como se debe hacer una película; es que está película es tan fantasiosa, real y actual y hasta puedo decir que es generacional por su tema principal, eso es lo que me hace considerarla no solo como una de las mejores películas que he visto este año, también la puedo anexar a mi lista personal de las mejores que he visto; si este año me preguntan cuál es la mejor historia sobre multiuniversos, no tendré ninguna duda de nombrar a Everything Everywhere All at Once.

At the time of the premiere of this film I had the opportunity to read some reviews where they reflected that this film tried to address many issues and that affected the story; I think those people did not understand the film and only got carried away by the action scenes and everything that has to do with multiple universes; the main theme is what triggers everything that these characters must live to save not only one world, but many others; without the story of Evelyn and her family, we would not have the other geniuses of this film and I am not only talking about the action and comedy scenes that we can see in the second act but in everything that happens at the same time in its third and final act which is what I liked the most. I have always said that in the world of cinema it is difficult to be original and that everything depends on how a story should be told and when I saw this film I think that The Daniels got it right with everything I think about how a film should be made; is that this film is so fantastical, real and current and I can even say that it is generational because of its main theme, that is what makes me consider it not only as one of the best films I have seen this year, I can also add it to my personal list of the best I have seen; if this year I am asked which is the best story about multiverse, I will have no doubt to name Everything Everywhere All at Once.
