'Doom Patrol' First Impressions: This show is really good so far@namiks391d
I had no idea Doom Patrol was this good! A show I've just never bothered watching until now, and I don't even really know why. I didn't hear much about it when it released. I didn't see much discussion online regarding it. It felt like it generally received low marketing as well despite being so highly appreciated by critics. Now, that review score is one of the reasons that I decided to take the leap and jump into the show, I was intrigued. Another thing is that it's nice to see Brendan Fraser back into acting, a few shows and feature films here and there lately, and he's always a pleasure to watch. I wasn't sure what I expected when I jumped into it though, there was never really any trailers that I saw, nor clips. And even before watching this, I still didn't see any trailers to get even a brief idea of how it looked visually or what the narrative was about. It came to my surprise how gritty it was, how well made it was. Being such a beautifully crafted show with a more serious set of tragedies to it. A greater surprise is that this came about in a very rocky environment for not only film and television, but also the superhero genre itself.
Though this doesn't feel like it's something superhero related so far, it feels more like a realistic interpretation of something surrounding strange magical abilities that people somehow end up obtaining. And each of these individuals getting their ability from strange near-death experiences. Events that should've killed them, though something ended up interrupting an action of theirs, either causing the accident in the first place or giving them a strange ability that led to their survival.
My initial assumptions based on the setup is that this is quite similar to the concept of the X-Men so far. There's a group of outcasts that have been subjected to terribly strange conditions that have led them to becoming more feared in public than appreciated, with one central leader that seems to understand them and keep them in check. They spend their time together, forming a stronger community in which they actually feel more connected to something for once. For the most part, we see the perspective of Robotman, and he's pretty much what his name suggests. His tragic backstory being that he survived a horrific car crash to which his brain was placed into a robot body. Other characters introduced so far suggest similar unfortunate outcomes: Rita Farr being a great Hollywood success back in the nuclear 1950s, suddenly disappearing from the spotlight after an event leads her body to suddenly melt and turn into a weird jelly-type state. It's something she can't control, and leads to some rather embarrassing moments; something a Hollywood star would easily struggle to adapt to.
I like that there are a few different characters each with their own personal struggles, and I guess at this point if you know much about the X-Men, you'll see the similarities here. I was surprised at the attention to detail regarding the cinematography, the show is incredibly beautiful and clearly had quite a strong budget backing it. The only cheap looking moments being rather special effects heavy. Intense moments of action featuring explosions and destruction. But I think the rest of the show looks so visually pleasing that it's quite easy to brush that aside. I suspect that over time it'll go deeper into their stories and handle them in a more human manner, bridging the regular lifestyle of an average person with the struggles of someone that has effectively died and been revived with powers. And I like that how those powers are distributed means people suffering ill-fate throughout different periods of time, not all at once. I think that adds a bit more mystery to things.
I am pleasantly surprised so far. I still have little idea as to what this has to do with the comics side of things. But so far the quality in cast, acting, visuals, and story has been great. Incredibly engaging.

From the beginning of this series you can pretty much tell that it's not your typical superhero series... the plot focuses on a group of misfits with unique abilities, each one with a past more tragic than the last, with a lot of mental, personal and social problems to solve... The first thing I'd like to point out is that Doom Patrol has a very good approach, it does an excellent job developing the stories of these very strange characters... both individually and as a group. We are shown all their pasts and how they influenced their current lives, all these characters suffered serious accidents that marked them for life, disfiguring them or giving them abilities that rather than being blessings were curses...
In this series we will meet Cliff Steel, who in the comics is known as Robot Man, this man had an accident and ended up transformed into a robot... this character is played by the great actor Brendan Fraser, he really does an exceptional job... he shows us the internal struggle of this character, with a very acid and stubborn personality. Another fascinating character, member of this team, is Larry Trainor, who is also known as Negative Man.. his main conflict lies in the inability to accept his own identity, there are many complexes involved.. among many other things related to his accident and the strange little man who lives inside him, this makes him stay a bit on the sidelines, and is not good at relating...
Hola a todos, amigos de Hive, espero que se encuentren muy bien en el día de hoy.. en esta ocasión quiero seguir hablándoles de algunas series de DC que me han gustado mucho.. En esta ocasión les hablaré de la serie Doom Patrol, esta es una serie que podría describir como extraña.. Realmente se aparta de las cosas típicas de superhéroes, y en lugar de eso, nos ofrece una narrativa muy original, llena de personajes sumamente complejos y situaciones demasiado surrealistas..
Desde el comienzo de esta serie se puede notar bastante que no es la típica serie de superhéroes.. la trama se centra en un grupo de inadaptados con habilidades únicas, cada uno con un pasado más trágico que el anterior, con un montón de problemas mentales, personales y sociales que resolver.. Lo primero que me gustaría destacar es que Doom Patrol tiene un muy buen enfoque, hace un excelente trabajo desarrollando las historias de estos personajes tan extraños... tanto de manera individual como de manera grupal. Nos muestran todos sus pasados y como estos influyeron hasta sus vidas actuales, todos estos personajes sufrieron graves accidentes que los marcaron de por vida, desfigurándolos o dándoles habilidades que más que ser bendiciones fueron maldiciones..
En esta serie conoceremos a Cliff Steel, quien en los cómics es conocido como Robot Man, este hombre tuvo un accidente y terminó transformado en un robot.. este personaje es interpretado por el gran actor Brendan Fraser, realmente hace un trabajo excepcional.. nos muestra la lucha interna de este personaje, con una personalidad bastante ácida y testaruda. Otro personaje fascinante, miembro de este equipo, es Larry Trainor, quien es conocido también como Negative Man.. su conflicto principal radica en la incapacidad para aceptar su propia identidad, hay muchos complejos de por medio.. entre otras muchas cosas relacionadas a su accidente y al pequeño extraño hombre que vive dentro de él, esto hace que se mantenga un poco al margen, y no sea bueno relacionándose..
Continuing with the members of this curious team, we have Rita Farr, who was also the victim of an accident that left her scarred, and the series handles well reflecting all her vulnerabilities. Rita was a vain actress who loses everything, and is a character that perfectly reflects all that complicated conflict that implies wanting to be accepted, and the reality of living with things you never wanted, but had to accept... Throughout the series we see her evolution and how little by little she is also growing personally, she is the person with the most heart, so to speak, within this group.
And lastly we have Jane, who is my favorite character in the entire series, she is one of the most intriguing and complicated characters this series has, and is one of the most diverse characters I've ever seen in superhero productions. This is a girl that unfortunately, due to different situations, her mind ends up fracturing and developing 64 different personalities, each one with a different superhuman power... this girl has to learn to deal with the complications of having these abilities... Something I would like to highlight is the acting ability of Diane Guerrero, seriously, each personality feels very different and I think she knew how to handle each interpretation very well so that the viewer could intuit that, although it's the same actress, they are relatively different people... The series handles her character very carefully and allows each personality to contribute in some way to the team and in the overall narrative.
This would be the main team of Misfits, but later on this team will be joined by a superhero that some may be familiar with, and that is Cyborg.. this addition I would say is the one I liked the least at first.. Although señi serves to add some interesting dynamics to the story, I feel that both the character and his story or representation did not convince me at all, he has some good things, like his duality in his identity and how at the beginning he finds it hard to accept his half side and machine side, among other narratives that I do consider that were interesting to a certain point, but there is something in this character, that feels out of place, in my opinion, of course.
Continuando con los miembros de este curioso equipo, tenemos a Rita Farr, quien también fue víctima de un accidente que la dejó marcada, y la serie maneja bien reflejando todas sus vulnerabilidades. Rita era una actriz vanidosa que lo pierde todo, y es un personaje que refleja perfectamente todo ese conflicto complicado que implica querer ser aceptado, y la realidad de vivir con cosas que nunca quisiste, pero que tuviste que aceptar.. A lo largo de la serie vemos su evolución y como poco a poco también va creciendo personalmente, ella es la persona con más corazón, por así decirlo, dentro de este grupo.
Y por último tenemos a Jane, quien es mi personaje favorito de toda la serie, es uno de los personajes más intrigantes y complicados que tiene esta serie, y es uno de los personajes más diversos que alguna vez vi en producciones de superhéroes. Esta es una chica que lastimosamente, por diversas situaciones, su mente acaba fracturándose y desarrollando 64 personalidades distintas, cada una con un poder sobrehumano diferente.. esta chica tiene que aprender a lidiar con lo complicado de tener estas habilidades.. Algo que me gustaría resaltar es la habilidad actoral de Diane Guerrero, en serio, cada personalidad se siente muy diferente y creo que supo manejar muy bien cada interpretación para que el espectador pudiera intuir que, aunque se trata de la misma actriz, son personas relativamente diferentes.. La serie maneja su carácter con mucho cuidado y permite que cada personalidad contribuya en cierta manera al equipo y en la narrativa general.
Este sería el equipo principal de Inadaptados, pero posteriormente a este equipo se les unirá un superhéroe que tal vez algunos conozcan, y se trata de Cyborg.. esta adición yo diría que es la que menos me gustaba al principio.. Aunque señi sirve para agregar cierta dinámica interesante a la historia, siento que tanto el personaje como su historia o representación no me terminaron de convencer del todo, tiene algunas cosas buenas, como su dualidad en su identidad y cómo al principio le cuesta aceptar su lado mitad y lado máquina, entre otras narrativas que sí considero que fueron interesantes hasta un cierto punto, pero hay algo en este personaje, que se siente fuera de lugar, en mi opinión, por supuesto.
I should also mention Niles Coulder, who was the person who brought this whole team together in the first place, he is a doctor who lived with them for a long time and you could say he tried to adopt the role of a father to these people... and well, the series starts with these misfits trying to find him and solve a problem he got himself into.. Among some of the other highlights this series has is the great ability to convey emotions or moods without resorting to intense or overly deep dialogue. The series uses visual techniques such as lighting, background colors, and photography to communicate everything the characters are feeling. This really helps a lot to make them feel more human, something strange due to their nature, it's great to be able to be empathetic with them, and slowly start to appreciate them.
Another thing that makes that series very unique, is how absurd it is... there are many, situations and scenes that are so weird, strange, and crazy that it will definitely shock you... all the humor it reflects is really absurd and nonsensical, and this is my favorite kind of humor haha. I love the way in which the simplest things, end up becoming something totally crazy and senseless, the series gives you very funny moments that will certainly stay in your head for a long time, it's great to find a series that is not afraid to be crazy and strange, this aesthetic fits wonderfully to this group of strange people...
También debo mencionar a Niles Coulder, que fue la persona que reunió a todo este equipo en primera instancia, es un doctor que vivió con ellos mucho tiempo y que se podría decir que trató de adoptar el rol de padre para estas personas.. y bueno, la serie comienza con estos inadaptados tratando de encontrarlo y solucionar un problema en el que se metió.. Entre algunos otros aspectos destacados que tiene esta serie es la gran capacidad para transmitir emociones o estados de ánimo sin recurrir a diálogos intensos o demasiado profundos. La serie utiliza técnicas visuales como la iluminación, los colores de fondo, y la fotografía para comunicar todo lo que sienten los personajes. Realmente esto ayuda mucho a que se sientan más humanos, algo extraño debido a su naturaleza, es genial poder ser empatía con ellos, y poco a poco empezar a apreciarlos.
Otra cosa que hace muy única a esa serie, es lo absurda que es.. hay muchas, situaciones y escenas que son tan raras, extrañas, y locas que sin duda te impactarán.. todo el humor que refleja es realmente absurdo y sin sentido, y este es mi tipo de humor favorito jaja. Me encanta la manera en como las cosas más simples, terminan volviéndose algo totalmente alocado y sin sentido, la serie te regala momentos muy graciosos que sin duda quedarán en tu cabeza por mucho tiempo, es genial encontrar una serie que no tenga miedo en ser alocada y extraña, esta estética le queda de maravilla a este grupo de extrañas personas..
As for the antagonists, I think the villain I liked the most was the one from the first season, Mr. Nobody... he is a character that is quite special, I think the way he breaks the fourth wall and manipulates reality at will, adds a lot of unpredictability and chaos that is maintained throughout the season. It is very interesting how he explores all the fears and insecurities of the characters, I think this makes him one of the most interesting and complicated characters within the entire narrative history of this series.
Later in the next seasons they added villains that although they fulfilled their objective, they did not cause the impact as the villain of the first season did, but I still think they were not bad at all... they did mean a challenge for this strange group of heroes putting them in super complicated situations from which it was not easy to get out. Another interesting thing that Doon Patrol has is its soundtrack, from the opening theme to the various sound effects or songs fit perfectly with all the craziness that is happening as the chapters go by.... This is very entertaining because it allows the viewer to be completely immersed in this random and strange world.
En cuanto a los antagonistas, considero que el villano que más me gustó fue el de la primera temporada, Mr. Nobody.. es personaje que es bastante especial, creo que la manera en la que rompe la cuarta pared y manipula la realidad a su antojo, añade mucho nivel de imprevisibilidad y caos que se mantiene por toda la temporada. Es muy interesante como explora todos los miedos y las inseguridades de los personajes, opino que esto lo hace uno de los personajes más interesantes y complicados dentro de toda la historia narrativa de esta serie.
Posteriormente en las próximas temporadas fueron agregando villanos que si bien cumplieron con su objetivo dentro de lo que cabe, no causaron el impacto como lo hizo el villano de la primera temporada, pero igual creo que no fueron malos del todo.. si significaron un reto para este grupo extraño de héroes poniéndolos en situaciones super complicadas de las cuales no era fácil salir. Otra cosa interesante que tiene Doon Patrol es su soundtrack, desde el tema de apertura hasta los diversos efectos de sonido o canciones encajan perfectamente con toda la locura que va pasando conforme van pasando los capítulos.. Esto es muy entretenido porque permite que el espectador se inmersa por completo en este mundo aleatorio y extraño.
Unfortunately, this series also has some limitations... for example, in terms of special effects and CGI, it has good moments and bad moments. I think that this impartiality between the quality of the effects can make you not fully enjoy some chapters... But as I tell you, I guess this series goes way beyond effects, I think the use of some practical effects contribute to make the characters more authentic.. but in some parts it feels a little fake.
As for the plot, I think they have very good episodes that serve to develop the characters a lot and at the same time advance the main plot, but there are some chapters better than others.. there are some that feel like filler, although they are very few and mostly happen in the final two seasons.... I feel that when a series is long enough and successful enough, the writers try various things to extend the story as much as possible.. and sometimes it feels a bit unnecessary.. i must mention that the focus on character development is the best thing about the series, despite all the surreal and confusing nature, they do a very good job of making you connect with this very strange group. Sure, this surrealism and craziness may not be for everyone, as there are some people who don't appreciate how interesting the surreal and strange can be, but it's understandable...
Lastimosamente, esta serie también tiene algunas limitaciones.. por ejemplo, en cuanto a los efectos especiales y CGI, tiene momentos buenos y momentos malos. Hay momentos en los que, dependiendo la narrativa o el contexto, se necesitan efectos muy vistosos.. y creo que en ciertas partes logran cumplir con el cometido, pero en algunas otras se nota mucho la falta de calidad. En cuanto a la trama, pienso que tienen episodios muy buenos que sirven para desarrollar mucho a los personajes y a la vez avanzar la trama principal, pero hay algunos capítulos mejores que otros.. hay algunos que se sienten como relleno, aunque son muy pocos y mayormente ocurren en las dos temporadas finales.. Siento que cuando una serie es suficientemente larga y exitosa, los escritores intentan diversas cosas para extender lo más que se puede la historia.. y algunas veces se siente algo innecesario.. debo mencionar que el enfoque en el desarrollo de los personajes es lo mejor de la serie, a pesar de toda la naturaleza surrealista y confusa, hacen un muy buen trabajo haciéndote conectar con este grupo tan extraño. Claro, este surrealismo y locura puede que no sea para todo el mundo, ya que hay algunas personas que no aprecian lo interesante que puede ser lo surreal y extraño, pero es entendible..
However, I am sure that for those people who want something unique, this is a series that will really exceed their expectations... it is very different from typical productions in the superhero genre and offers a very deep and emotional plot. I give this series a rating of 8.5/10. It stands out a lot for its innovative approach and its great ability to make me laugh, and make me feel so strange yet fascinated. There is no such thing as a filler episode, as the chapters weave in and out of each other to provide a good ending for each season's finale, ending in an explosive way. The first episode of the entire series and its final one are the most elevated of all, which will take our hearts to another level, creating a splendid farewell to these likable and beloved characters that many fans have grown fond of. After watching The Boys series last year I knew there was a type of superhero series that I could enjoy. I have always avoided superhero series, I feel they are like a lesser version of major superhero movies and I just don't feel very entertained by them.
Doom Patrol is a different type of superhero series that has its own way of breaking the mold, this is what initially caught my attention because, in a way, it reminded me of the unique approach to the superhero genre that I loved in The Boys.
The superheroes in Doom Patrol aren't mean and hypocrites like those in The Boys, they are regular people that as a result of very particular tragedies end up with a strange set of skills that make them quite unique and something resembling a superhero team.
The only superhero I knew is Cyborg, all of the others are completely new to me. The name Doom Patrol is because they are a total mess, completely incompetent as superheroes and they would need to figure out how to solve all kinds of crazy and even hostile situations. There is a lot of character development but this isn't a surprise given the fact the season lasts 15 episodes.
This is the craziest show I have ever watched. Can you imagine human asses walking on their own eating people? This show has that. Can you imagine a donkey throwing a massive fart and revealing important information with its green gas? This show has that too. What about a person that eats men's beard or a scene where all the people in the street have a sudden orgasm? All of that happens as well.
Season 1 is packed with a lot of content, it lasts 15 episodes and in the first 5, I felt the story has shown so much that it was like a complete season on its own. This ultimately ends up being counterproductive for the show because the remaining 10 episodes even though they had a lot of content and a unique style of craziness, they didn't feel as intense and in the end, I ended up annoyed at the show. So much so that I don't think I will watch season 2.
If you are looking for a different and unique take in the superhero genre, you should consider watching this show. I didn't find it as enjoyable as The Boys though, which is a show much more focused on black comedy and does it beautifully. Doom Patrol tries to entertain with a bunch of fuckups who don't have a clue about how to be proper superheroes, and with such a high level of craziness in the plot that will almost guarantee to make each viewer laugh at least once.

The first 5 episodes are super entertaining. It then slows down a bit.
The craziness can be very fun, especially at the beginning.
The worst
Keeping up with the original craziness takes a toll on the show. The extreme bizarreness eventually stops intriguing and the final episodes were not very enjoyable for me.

It was to be one of the flagship series of the Warner Bros streaming platform, the one that was supposed to launch a DC Comics superhero vein. And yet, despite an excellent first season, success has not arrived. We are talking about Doom Patrol . There will be a second season and this is comforting. What transpires, however, is that in general the products that are coming out on the platform this year are all in strong discussion. Doom Patrol is no exception. It would be a shame to leave these stories in the middle, not all very successful but with a specific purpose and a reason for their existence. In the specific case, the series has convinced several times but it has gone very far from the goal of becoming a small gender phenomenon. Unfortunately, the first wave of DC superheroic TV series didn't hit the mark. Good products but they have not been able to arouse surprise and wonder in an increasingly demanding public.

The general impression is that Doom Patrol, like Titans, was an excellent but unsuccessful experiment. We have become attached to the characters but without really feeling them our "friends". We loved the various storylines but didn't love them. We were curious to see the next episode but without losing sleep. We went a long way from Netflix's Daredevil, which had renewed the genre, making it darker, more violent, bloody and above all by placing the main character on a different narrative level than what we used to see. We are very far from the visual experimentation of Legion for example. The Boys and The Umbrella Academy had shown great ability to change the paradigm in this vintage by questioning the whole traditional comics system. Doom Patrol fails to be totally original nor is it able to change pace. It offers great entertainment, excellent performances and good ideas but ends there.
It ends up being mentioned as a good product but forgotten within a few months.
And this, today is not forgivable given the enormous offer of highly interesting and innovative television products.
L'impressione generale è che Doom Patrol, cosi come Titans, sia stato un esperimento eccellente ma fallimentare. Ci siamo affezionati ai personaggi ma senza sentirli davvero nostri "amici". Abbiamo amato le varie storyline ma senza adorarle. Eravamo curiosi di assistere al prossimo episodio ma senza perdere il sonno. Siamo andati ben lontani dal Daredevil di Netflix che aveva rinnovato il genere rendendolo più cupo, violento, sanguinoso e soprattutto ponendo il personaggio principale su un livello narrativo diverso rispetto a quello che eravamo abituati a vedere. Siamo lontanissimi dalla sperimentazione visiva di Legion ad esempio. The Boys e The Umbrella Academy avevano dimostrato grande capacità di cambiare il paradigma in questa annata mettendo in discussione tutto l'impianto fumettistico tradizionale. Doom Patrol non riesce ad essere totalmente originale ne tantomeno riesce nell'intento di cambiare passo. Offre grande intrattenimento, ottime interpretazioni e buoni spunti ma finisce li.
Finisce per essere menzionata come buon prodotto ma dimenticata nel giro di pochi mesi.
E questo, al giorno d'oggi non è perdonabile vista l'offerta enorme di prodotti televisivi altamente interessanti ed innovativi.
