Frozen

My Take

I watched it back in 2013 for the first time, when I was still a school student. I watched it again today, just to show this fantastic piece to my wife, and I can now understand better why this movie became such a huge part of Disney's modern era.

Some songs from this movie were on our TV's playlist; that's why my wife wished to watch it, and it's already fulfilled.

The first thing that stood out to me was the relationship between Anna and Elsa. Their story was not just about magic or saving a kingdom. There was a strong emotional side to it, especially the way two sisters could care about each other while still having trouble understanding each other.

The songs were obviously a major part of the movie, and some of them were really catchy. "Let It Go" is the one I had heard the most, but I also enjoyed "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" and "For the First Time in Forever". The songs did a good job of moving the characters emotions forward instead of feeling like random musical breaks.

Olaf was another character I really liked. His personality was simple, but that was part of the fun. He had this innocent idea of what summer should be like, and his reactions to everything around him created some of the funniest moments in the movie.

I also liked the animation. The snow and ice effects looked beautiful, especially during Elsa's scenes. The snowy landscapes, the frozen structures and the small details in the environment made the movie feel like a proper fairy tale.

What I appreciated most was that Frozen did not depend only on the usual fairy-tale romance. The relationship between the sisters was much more important, and that gave the movie a different feeling from many older Disney princess stories.

Outstanding Performance

Idina Menzel gave Elsa a lot of personality through her voice. Elsa was a character who had to deal with fear and uncertainty, and Menzel's singing and voice acting helped make those emotions clear.

Kristen Bell was also a great fit for Anna. Anna was energetic, optimistic, and sometimes a little too eager to trust people. Bell's performance made her feel funny and lovable without making her personality annoying.

Josh Gad was one of the biggest reasons Olaf worked so well. Olaf could have easily become an irritating comic character, but Gad gave him so much innocent energy that most of his scenes were enjoyable.

Jonathan Groff also did well as Kristoff. He had a much quieter personality compared to Anna and Olaf, which created a good balance whenever the three characters were together. His interactions with Sven were also fun.

The animation deserves a lot of credit too. Elsa's ice powers gave the animators plenty of opportunities to create impressive visuals, and the snowy landscapes looked beautiful throughout the movie.

Conclusion

Frozen was a fun animated movie with a good balance of comedy, emotion, adventure, and music. I liked that the relationship between Anna and Elsa was at the center of the movie instead of making everything about romance.

It was easy to see why Frozen became so popular, but even without all the hype around it, I still found it enjoyable on its own.

And yeah, I'll rewatch Frozen II next and will review that one next for sure. I'm feeling a bit excited for the second part cause I don't remember most of the scenes, which means I'll enjoy watching it even when I'm rewatching it, as it happened with the first installment and with Up. There are a lot more movies that I'm planning to rewatch that once I enjoyed to the fullest.
