Director Neil Jordan created an unsettling psychological cat-and-mouse game with Greta, a stylish neo-noir with Hitchcockian overtones.

From its bleak Montreal settings, lined with rainbow-coloured autumn leaves, we are drawn into an intricate web of suspicion.

Isabelle Huppert is at her best in the sinister role of the title character, a mild-mannered French piano teacher who hides a monstrous obsession beneath her mannerisms.

In every scene, she hints at new layers of menace with her snaky smile and calculating glances.

    [Image](https://www.filmaffinity.com/ve/filmimages.php?movie_id=308785)

Chloë Grace Moretz is equally compelling as Frances, the young woman who is drawn into Greta's webs and is on the verge of paranoia as she tries to break free.

The evolving power dynamic between these two extraordinary actresses engages from the start.

Jordan carefully dodges thriller clichés and keeps us expectant at every unsettling twist and turn down dark alleyways, displaying his mastery of simmering tension and frayed nerves.

Greta is a chilling modern fairy tale for the #MeToo era that gets under your skin. Masterful.

A perfectly tuned psycho-drama that proves psychological horrors can be as creepy as any slasher. Jordan and his stars deliver a moody, unsettling modern classic that demands repeated viewings to absorb its multiple layers of implied menace. Sadly, many of the major awards overlooked Greta, failing to recognise Isabelle Huppert's riveting, unsettling performance as one of the best in recent years. However, director Neil Jordan rightly received critical acclaim.

Financially, with a modest budget of $5 million, Greta was an unexpected success. It grossed over $35 million worldwide, proving that audiences appreciate a taut, sophisticated thriller in the midst of Marvel fatigue.

Huppert and Grace Moretz also received individual accolades on the festival circuit. Proving that Greta struck a chord with discerning cinephiles, attracted by Jordan's masterful manipulation of shadows and subtext.

  2. Greta | Movie Review 🎥🍿@josehany980d

Today I was watching a movie while I was having a break from work, and I remembered this movie that I've wanted to see for a long time. I think it's been two years since I saw the trailer. Omg, time really flies and doesn't stop.

This movie is called Greta and from the first time I saw the trailer I was left with a creepy feeling that I had to get rid of because it looked like a good movie, and today was the day friends.

We start seeing Frances's life and about a few minutes into the film, she finds a lost bag on the subway. Frances really is a good person and she decides to look inside the bag when she arrives at the apartment she shares with her friend. Although her friend didn't think the same and she just wanted to keep the money.

Frances, like a good girl, decides to go the next day to the address that appeared on the document she found in the purse. She met a fairly friendly-looking woman who offered her a cup of coffee.

And because of this coffee, Frances and Greta became friends, until one day Frances found a bunch of purses just like the one she had found on the subway and realized that this woman had been doing that for a long time. Obviously she gets scared and leaves without saying anything.

From there the nightmare begins because that woman becomes a real stalker. Frances tries to call the police and they only advise her to ignore her, but as the minutes go by the situation becomes increasingly terrifying and dangerous.

Personally I liked the movie but because it always left me with the feeling of being alert, that is, I really got into the role of the movie, and as if I were the protagonist I felt my own fear that someone was watching me all the time. This thriller, psychological horror, really made me go back to my traumatic moments.

  3. Greta | My impressions and review of the film@gorayii1921d

    Source1/2

A few days ago while I was flipping from one TV channel to another, looking for a program to distract me before going to sleep, I came across the trailer of a movie called Greta, which in Spanish was translated as "The Widow", in that trailer I could see that Chloë Grace was starring, and it caught my attention because it was of the suspense genre; coincidentally the movie was about to start, so I decided to watch it.

I mention Chloë Grace in the first instance, because she was the only actress whose face was familiar to me in the film's trailer, and since her performances are usually immersed in drama and mystery situations, I was confident that I could like the film, albeit without high expectations.

Indeed, what begins as an innocent encounter in which a young woman decides to return a handbag forgotten in a train carriage to its owner, turns into a sick story with psychopathic overtones.

Greta is a kind, refined and well-educated woman, with a special fondness for classical music. One day, in an apparent oversight, she forgets an elegant handbag in the train carriage and is contacted by the young woman who finds it to return it to her.

At that meeting, she meets Frances, a young waitress who has just moved to the city, who has recently lost her mother, a pain that is still alive in her, and also has a distant relationship with her father. Greta tells Frances that she is from France, that she lives alone after the death of her husband, and that her only daughter lives in Paris, so she feels lonely and eager for company.

The two strike up a fast and close friendship that seems to complement their shortcomings, Greta in her need to fill the void of her absent daughter, and Frances that of her dead mother.

One night, when they are at Greta's house to enjoy an evening, while they are cooking and preparing everything, Frances discovers something that disturbs her and quickly makes her doubt Greta's intentions. This makes her want to distance herself from the woman and break off all contact with her, however, Greta does not desist in her attempt to preserve what she considered could be a mother-daughter relationship.

Frances discovers that what Greta told her about her life is not true, which convinces her that getting away from Greta is the right thing to do, but without even suspecting it, she becomes the victim of harassment and persecution by a mentally unbalanced woman obsessed with her. Frightened by the harassment, she brings the situation to the attention of her friend Erica, who in turn alerts Frances' father.

From that moment on there is a sense of suspense in the plot, which could even produce fear, however, I feel that there are scenes that go so fast or that trigger so hastily in the obvious, that damage that moment of climax. Still, you can feel the tension and anguish at certain moments, but not enough of a shock to make you bite your nails in amazement or anxiety.

There is a twist at the end of the story that, although I liked it, I saw it coming, and that's what I'm talking to you about, there are scenes that are taken for granted, that feels predictable, I don't know if it's because of the triviality of the genre or because something else was missing. In any case, it is not a bad, bad movie, nor a good, good movie...it is one of those that can be watched. By the way, it's not a new movie, it's from 2018, but for some reason I had never heard of it, it was the coincidence of zapping that led me to discover it.

Directed by Neil Jordan Starring: Isabelle Huppert, Chloë Grace Moretz,
