The main reason why I decided to watch this film is because of its excellent cast and also because I remember watching the first film and it was an OK comedy. I haven't watched too many comedies in the past few weeks and months so it was about time for me to give a watch to a film belonging to this genre.
My expectation from this film was to see a bunch of charismatic characters, funny dialogues, and a story full of action scenes all over the place. However, I wasn't expecting a revolutionary comedy or anything like that. I was just mainly intrigued by how they were going to exploit the well-known reputation of its cast members to create a cool comedy.
Main names associated with the film
The director was Patrick Hughes. He also directed the previous film, The Hitman's Bodyguard, and has worked in The Expendables 3 as well as Red Hill. He hasn't directed many productions but so far all of his films have been good enough.
The film has several writers with the main one being Tom O'Connor. He has only created 4 stories including this one, the other 2 stories are Fire with Fire, The Hitman's Bodyguard, and The Courier. It seems like every time this person writes a new story it is an excellent one.
The other 2 writers worked on the screenplay along with O'Connor. One of these writers is Phillip Murphy and this was the first time he worked as a writer. The only other project where he is working is called The Last Drop and it hasn't been released yet.
Brandon Murphy is the other writer who also helped with the screenplay and he is in a similar situation to Murphy. This film was the first one for him, and there are currently 2 other productions waiting to be released where he worked as a writer, Snow Valley and the just mentioned The Last Drop, which means they seem to be a team of writers with plans of working together several times.
When it comes to the cast, it has a lot of well-known people. The main character is played by Ryan Reynolds. He has worked in so many films that it is very difficult to only choose a handful to mention. He has been a superhero 2 times, playing Green Lantern and Deadpool. He has worked in comedies such as The Proposal and in thrillers such as Buried. He is also the main actor in one of the movies I am expecting the most in the next months called Free Guy, where he plays an NPC on a videogame and suddenly realizes his nature. In the Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, he is a professional bodyguard who is trying to fix all the screwups he did in the first movie.
La razón principal por la que decidí ver esta película es por su excelente reparto y también porque recuerdo haber visto la primera película y fue una buena comedia. No he visto demasiadas comedias en las últimas semanas y meses, así que ya era hora de darle un vistazo a una película de este género.
Mi expectativa de esta película era ver un montón de personajes carismáticos, diálogos divertidos y una historia llena de escenas de acción por todos lados. Sin embargo, no esperaba una comedia revolucionaria ni nada de eso. Lo que más me intrigaba era cómo iban a explotar la conocida reputación de los miembros del elenco para crear una comedia genial.

The hitman is played by Samuel Jackson, this character is extremely dangerous and the authorities are always looking for him. He is extremely talented with any type of weapon and has a lot of fun killing people. Some of the previous films where this actor has worked are The Hateful Eight, he constantly appears in Marvel films as a secondary character, The Banker, and Glass.
The hitman's wife is played by Salma Hayek. Just like her husband, she has the skills to easily hurt and even kill any person who stands in her way. She is a bit emotionally explosive but that is typical of any character played by this actress. She has previously acted in Grown Ups 2, Ugly Betty, Frida, among many other productions.
Antonio Banderas will be playing the villain. This character is a wealthy man from Greece and he wants to make his country great and powerful once again. Banderas has also acted in a bunch of films, some of those are The Skin I Live In, The Laundromat, and Pain and Glory.
Finally, we have Morgan Freeman who plays an important character but I prefer not to say who he is because it could be considered a spoiler. In recent years Freeman has worked as an actor in the Solos series, in Now You See Me 2, and in Lucy.
In summary, the directors and the writers don't have too much experience but they do have a lot of talent and the film has an excellent cast that's hard to find in other movies. I don't really remember when was the last time I saw a film with so many talented actors and actresses in the cast. Did they produce a worth watching film? Let's discuss that in the next section.
What was the movie about?
The main character, the bodyguard, is going to therapy to overcome the apparently traumatic experiences he endured in the first film. He is not in a good spot, is constantly having nightmares where the hitman character laughs at him, and to make everything worse, he is currently without a license to work as a bodyguard because the events of the first film are being investigated. He discusses all of this with his therapist and they decide he needs to have a well-needed vacation.
Little does he know, that just when he is enjoying his vacation, something bad will begin to happen in Europe and soon enough he will be approached by the hitman's wife. In a manner of minutes, he goes from enjoying a cool vacation to suddenly avoiding bullets and having to complete another dangerous mission.
El sicario es interpretado por Samuel Jackson, este personaje es extremadamente peligroso y las autoridades siempre lo están buscando. Poco sabe él, que justo cuando esté disfrutando de sus vacaciones, algo malo comenzará a suceder en Europa y pronto será abordado por la esposa del sicario. En minutos, pasa de disfrutar de unas buenas vacaciones, a esquivar repentinamente las balas y tener que completar otra peligrosa misión.

The chemistry between the 3 main characters was there but it wasn't as entertaining as I was expecting it to be, however, that might be only me and my high expectations because I do think this film can probably entertaining most people. With these 3 charismatic people playing the main characters there was a lot of opportunity for funny dialogues and situations, and the creators of the film certainly took advantage of this situation. However, I didn't feel like the movie provided anything too original to the table. It felt like talented actors doing what they always do and it felt a bit repetitive.
The villain has his reasons to use his money and power to cause damage to Europe. He is greek and he feels his country has been disrespected so he wants to make things right by force. The terrorist attack he plans on doing will completely change the world and could even potentially create a new world order. Naturally, this crazy man needs to be stopped and the authorities are doing everything they can to do it.
By mere chance or luck, the 3 main characters will have the opportunity to help prevent this terrorist attack from happening but it will be risky, and trusting in criminals such as the hitman and his wife might not be a smart choice. However, there is a lot of urgency in stopping the crazy wealthy man and his evil plan so drastic measures are taken by everyone.
The rest of the story can be guessed by pretty much everyone because as I said before, it cannot be considered a very original or innovative film. There are a couple of surprises related to the character played by Morgan Freeman but not much more.
How were the performance from the cast, the scenery and the camera work?
I believe the cast did a fine job playing their roles. They did it as best as they could and their effort is noticeable, the problem is this story doesn't have anything innovative to provide to the public. The cast made everything better, that's for sure, but the film isn't special in the least.
The scenery was spectacular. They will visit a ton of different places while on their mission to "save the world" and a lot of scenes looked very pretty thanks to the chosen scenery. The camera work was nicely done too. The weak part of the film is the story which felt a bit generic, everyone else did a good job.
Final thoughts
The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard can be a worth-watching film if you are looking for a mindless comedy with not much substance but very charismatic cast members. It will most likely have several scenes that most people can consider funny, and even though the events are very predictable, there are still a few surprises that might keep the viewers entertained. It is a cool action-comedy that people should enjoy if they have the proper expectations.

Casi todo el mundo puede adivinar el resto de la historia porque, como dije antes, no se puede considerar una película muy original o innovadora. Hay un par de sorpresas relacionadas con el personaje interpretado por Morgan Freeman pero no muchas más.
¿Cómo fue la actuación del elenco, el escenario y el trabajo de cámara?
Creo que el elenco hizo un buen trabajo interpretando sus papeles. Lo hicieron lo mejor que pudieron y su esfuerzo se nota, el problema es que esta historia no tiene nada innovador que brindar al público. El elenco hizo todo mejor, eso es seguro, pero la película no es especial en lo más mínimo.
La ambientación fue espectacular. Visitarán un montón de lugares diferentes mientras están en su misión de "salvar el mundo" y muchas escenas se veían muy bonitas gracias al escenario elegido. El trabajo de la cámara también se hizo muy bien. La parte débil de la película es la historia que se sintió un poco genérica, todos los demás hicieron un buen trabajo.
Reflexiones finales
Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard puede ser una película que valga la pena ver si estás buscando una comedia sin sentido con poca sustancia pero miembros del elenco muy carismáticos. Lo más probable es que tenga varias escenas que la mayoría de la gente pueda considerar divertidas, y aunque los eventos son muy predecibles, todavía hay algunas sorpresas que pueden mantener entretenidos a los espectadores. Es una comedia de acción genial que la gente debería disfrutar si tiene las expectativas adecuadas.
