Hush... A Disturbing Silence. I have been delighted with a new story, where horror is not only present; but this genre is again combined with mystery and suspense; as well as with the genres of psychological horror, slasher and home invasion. For this, there are directors who are masters at mixing all these aspects and offering films with absolute quality. We are talking about Mike Flanagan who has multiple films to his credit, where the aforementioned genres and genres are expressed; in addition to this, he also writes his stories and among them; we find the film Hush. The referred film; although it dates back to 2016, I confess that I had not enjoyed it and I almost regret not having done so; but it is never late when happiness comes. Now; this horror gem, despite not having an extensive amount of characters, was not an impediment for us not to have before our eyes, a film worthy of enjoying.
Hush stars Kate Siegel, who was also the writer of this film; she is also the director's wife. Make no mistake; because Kate's performance in the role of Maddie has been totally masterful. In short and to close the subject of the director; from my point of view I can say, that Mike is a magician of terror; however, beyond generating a simple fear, this director is a genius when it comes to creating masterful stories full of suspense, mystery and a disturbing atmosphere that leaves us glued to the seat. And I say this because although it took me a long time to see Hush, I had previously enjoyed Mike's films, such as Absentia and Oculus; precisely in the latter, Kate Siegel also starred.
It seems unbelievable; but we are used to movies where the noise is overwhelming; we have explosions, riots and in the case of horror; we hear screams everywhere that leave us stunned. But what strikes me about this film is the power with which the tension and the whole atmosphere of suspense and anguish that we feel at all times is put on the table. In general terms, here is an impressive twist in the aspect of home invasion; all done with incredible intelligence and said with few words; because if you did not know, the actress plays a writer who because of a meningitis that occurred in her childhood, has left her deaf and mute; she likes the tranquility and peace with her cat; but I do not understand why people like to live in houses located in the middle of nowhere hehehehehehe; well, movie stuff.

If we get into the plot; we enjoy quiet moments with Maddie, who as I said before, is a writer of novels and if I'm not mistaken, they are horror themes. The friend Maddie lives in an extremely secluded house in order to seek the inspiration she needs. But all this has changed; because for no apparent reason, disturbing moments are approaching for her, due to a cruel and deadly threat that watches her dangerously. Now; we know that this girl has a hearing and vocal disability; which could make her an easy prey. However, the disability becomes an important aspect within the plot, making the protagonist use all her inventiveness to overcome the dangers that lie ahead; the story is extremely cool and proves that to enjoy a good movie; the story and the actions surpass the dialogues.
Living the film second by second; we realize that simple scares and cheap violence have no place in this film. On the contrary; the plot is wrapped in the genius of the protagonist to stay alive; it is a proof that the hunter does not always have it easy. And another aspect that I like; is the way the director makes us part of the story; he makes us feel that we are vulnerable like Maddie, but at the same time very strong to try to survive. Also; we should not worry about the silence, since it is part of the story and from my point of view, it is also a latent character that sharpens the tension during the development of the story, making the other senses to be used to move forward and not die trying.
If we talk about the characters; Kate's performance enchanting Maddie, is extremely great. I never imagined that without speaking during the plot, the importance of this character could be revealed; since the communication is given through expressions, body language and looks that indicate fear, pain, anguish; but at the same time show the strength and will to live; which makes every moment, a constant generation of danger, anxiety and defense. We cannot leave aside the performance of the murderer; because he is the one who generates all that tension and psychological terror; yes, he does not want to end it all in one blow; but he plays with the situation of the protagonist and although sometimes the murderers are a little silly and perform incoherent actions; there is no doubt that the psychological game is very good.
I can't fail to mention that this is also a powerful thriller that delves into the power of human resilience when facing adverse situations. Here it is not about escaping from a ghost, an entity, or a diabolical possession; it is about fighting for your life, inventing and reinventing the way to escape from something you did not seek, from someone who is watching you and wants you to break psychologically. We experience all this as an audience and it makes us think that we can help Maddie in those moments when the murderer can catch her unawares.
It is simply a story that you must enjoy, since its narrative is masterful and gives us to know the other side of silence; without a doubt you should not miss Hush and you will see that you will be kept in suspense; in addition, you will realize all the tools that the protagonist uses to defend herself and communicate. Of course, everyone has their own tastes and there may be moments where the plot becomes a little slow, but in general terms it is a movie to be recommended. Another thing I invite you to find out is if there is any relationship between the attacker and Maddie, or if there is any motive that drives the murderer to go to such extremes; enjoy it and then tell me about it, see you soon.

Me he deleitado con una nueva historia, donde el terror no solo esta presente; sino que este género, nuevamente se combina con el misterio y el suspenso; así como también con los su géneros de terror psicológico, slasher e invasión al hogar. Para ello; existen directores que son unos maestros mezclando todos estos aspectos y ofrecernos filmes con absoluta calidad. Hablamos de Mike Flanagan quien tiene en su haber múltiples películas, donde se expresan los géneros y su géneros antes mencionados; además de ello, también escribe sus historias y entre ellas; encontramos el filme Hush. La referida película; aunque tiene data del 2016, confieso que no la había disfrutado y casi me arrepiento de no haberlo hecho; pero nunca es tarde cuando la dicha llega. Ahora; esta joya de terror, a pesar de no tener una extensa cantidad de personajes, no fue impedimento para que no tengamos ante nuestros ojos, una película digna de disfrutar.
Hush es protagonizada por Kate Siegel, quien también fue escritora de este filme; además, como dato importante, es esposa del director. No se equivoquen; porque la actuación de Kate en el papel de Maddie ha sido totalmente magistral. En definitiva y para cerrar el tema del director; desde mi punto de vista puedo decir, que Mike es un mago del terror; sin embargo, más allá de generar un miedo sencillo, este director es un genio en cuanto a la creación de historias magistrales llenas de suspenso, misterio y una atmósfera perturbadora que nos deja pegado al asiento. Y lo digo; porque aunque tardé mucho en ver Hush, con anterioridad había disfrutado películas de Mike, tales como Absentia y Oculus; precisamente en esta última, también actuó Kate Siegel.
Parece mentira; pero estamos acostumbrados a las películas donde el ruido es abrumador; tenemos explosiones, disturbios y en el caso del terror; escuchamos gritos por doquier que nos dejan aturdidos. Pero lo que me llama la atención de este filme, es el poder con que se pone en el tapete la tensión y toda la atmósfera de suspenso y angustia que sentimos en todo momento. En términos generales, aquí se da un giro impresionante en el aspecto de la invasión en el hogar; todo hecho con inteligencia increíble y dicho con pocas palabras; porque si no lo sabían, la actriz encarna a una escritora que a causa de una meningitis ocurrida en su infancia, la ha dejado sorda y muda; a ella le gusta la tranquilidad y la paz junto a su gato; pero no entiendo porque a la gente le gusta vivir en casas localizadas en medio de la nada jejejeje; bueno, cosas de película.

Si nos adentramos en la trama; disfrutamos de momentos tranquilos con Maddie, quien como dije antes, es una escritora de novelas y si no me equivoco, son temas de terror. La amiga Maddie vive en una casa sumamente apartada con el fin de buscar la inspiración que necesita. Pero todo esto ha cambiado; porque sin razón aparente, se acercan momentos inquietantes para ella, debido a una amenaza cruel y mortal que la observa peligrosamente. Ahora; sabemos que esta chica tiene una discapacidad auditiva y vocal; lo que la podría convertir en una presa facil. Sin embargo, la discapacidad se convierte en un aspecto importante dentro de la trama, haciendo que la protagonista utilice toda su inventiva para sortear los peligros que se avecinan; la historia es sumamente genial y se demuestra que para disfrutar de una buena película; la historia y las acciones sobrepasan los diálogos.
Viviendo la película segundo a segundo; nos damos cuenta que los simples sustos y la violencia barata no tienen cabida en esta película. Al contrario; la trama se ve envuelta en la genialidad de la protagonista para mantenerse viva; es una prueba que el cazador, no siempre la tiene fácil. Y otro aspecto que me gusta; es la forma como el director nos hace formar parte de la historia; nos hace sentir que somos vulnerables como Maddie, pero al mismo tiempo muy fuertes para intentar sobrevivir. Además; no debemos preocuparnos por el silencio, ya que forma parte de la historia y desde mi pensar, también es un personaje latente que agudiza mucho más la tensión durante el desarrollo de la historia, haciendo que los demás sentidos sean utilizados para avanzar y no morir en el intento.
Si hablamos de los personajes; la actuación de Kate encanrnando a Maddie, es sumamente genial. Nunca imaginé que sin hablar durante la trama, se pudiera dar a conocer la importancia de este personaje; ya que la comunicación se da por medio de expresiones, lenguaje corporal y con miradas que indican temor, dolor, angustia; pero al mismo tiempo demuestran la fuerza y las ganas de vivir; lo que hace de cada instante, una constante generación de peligro, zozobra y defensa. No podemos dejar de lado la actuación del asesino; porque es quien genera toda esa tensión y terror psicológico; eso sí, no desea acabar con todo de un solo golpe; sino que juega con la situación de la protagonista y aunque a veces los asesinos son un poco tontos y realizan acciones incoherentes; no cabe duda que el juego psicológico es muy bueno.
No puedo dejar de mencionar que esto también es un poderoso thriller que profundiza el poder de la resiliencia del ser humano, al momento de enfrentar situaciones adversas. Aquí no se trata de escapar de un fantasma, un ente, o una posesión diabólica; se trata de luchar por tu vida, de inventar y reinventar la manera de escapar de algo que no has buscado, de alguien que te observa y desea que te quiebres psicológicamente. Todo esto lo vivimos como público y nos hace pensar, que podemos ayudar a Maddie en esos momentos donde el asesino la puede agarrar desprevenida.
Sencillamente es una historia que debes disfrutar, ya que su narrativa es magistral y nos da a conocer la otra cara del silencio; sin lugar a dudas no debes perderte Hush y verás que te mantendrás en suspenso; además, te darás cuenta de todas las herramientas que usa la protagonista para defenderse y comunicarse. Claro está, que cada quien tiene sus gustos y pueden haber momentos en donde la trama se torne un poco lenta, pero en términos generales es una película para ser recomendada. Otra cosa que te invito a descubrir es si existe alguna relación entre el atancante y Maddie, o si existe algún motivo que impulse al asesino a llegar a esos extremos; disfrútala y luego me cuentas, nos vemos pronto.
