It Takes Two

My cousin and I saw this movie together some nights ago, it was so interesting to see that we spent the rest of the night talking about every character in the story. It was on the top list of movies about child adoption, family and drama so I decided to go for it. It turned out really worth the time and attention, loved the lead characters.

"It Takes Two" is another old gem, released in the year 1995, that is over 30 years ago. It's a movie in the genre of family, feel-good romance and lots of comedy starring Kirstie Alley as Diane Barrows Steve Guttenberg as Roger Callaway Mary-Kate Olsen as Amanda Lemmon and Ashley Olsen as Alyssa Callaway. Turns out the twin in the story are real life twin, felt realistic.

The movie was directed by Andy Tennant and the story written by Deborah Dean Davis, won an award and got 3 nominations. I had to check for that detail to confirm the rating I gave the movie after I was done seeing it. For an old release, it went beyond my expectation in many ways and it's all thanks to the characters who pulled it off.

It Takes Two is about two little and very identical girls, one is born to a wealthy man about to remarry for her sake, the other is living in an adoption house hoping to be adopted. The two girls meets after a very coincidental mistake and they both decide to keep switching places in attempts to stop the wealthy father's marriage to a woman who is clearly after his wealth. The two device different plans that keeps going way smoother than they expected. No one could tell.

The story also tells of a woman who is looking to adopt a girl in the adoption home she works for. They go on a trip as an adoption home vacation sponsored by the wealthy man and she meets the man by chance (or through the kids planning it beforehand), they fell in love after a few minutes together but the man has a wedding to plan and she didn't think it was right to like a soon to be married man, the girls think different.

The two girls were my favourite in the story, how they kept coming up with a plan that just always works but still gives me tension watching them, is brilliant. The chemistry between the father and the adoption home worker felt real and not forced too, even though it was literally forced by the little girls. The villain's face was well selected.

The story is a beautiful one of love, choices, tricks, family and life. A little spoiler would be a marriage almost happened even with the children's diligent acts to keep it from happening. Even as a viewer, I almost gave up on the success of the plan but then, the story surprised me until the end. And I can not over emphasise how funny the story got. I'll give it a good rating.
