Posiblemente M. Night Shyamalan sea uno de los directores y guionistas del cual siempre haré tiempo para ver si trabajo, ya que soy parte de esas personas que se impresionó por lo que hizo en films cómo "The Sixth Sense", "Unbreakable", "Signs"; tres de sus mejores trabajos y que seguramente le dio una fama impresionante creando expectativas sobre sus futuros films, los cuales no cumplieron y por eso pasó por una racha de fracasos; ahora en este momento actual de su carrera, realiza films que pueden o no ser un éxito en la crítica, aunque mantiene el apoyo del público que siempre espera nuevamente sorprenderse con sus historias.
Possibly M. Night Shyamalan is one of the directors and screenwriters of which I will always make time to see if I work, since I am part of those people who was impressed by what he did in films like "The Sixth Sense", "Unbreakable", "Signs"; three of his best works and that surely gave him an impressive fame creating expectations about his future films, which were not fulfilled and that's why he went through a streak of failures; now in this current moment of his career, he makes films that may or may not be a critical success, although he maintains the support of the public that always expects to be surprised again with his stories.
"Knock at the Cabin" es el nuevo film de Shyamalan y el cual está basado en la novela de horror llamada "The Cabin at the End of the World", escrita por Paul Tremblay; en esta historia veremos como una pequeña familia compuesta por "Eric", "Andrew" y la pequeña "Wen" muestras disfrutan de sus vacaciones en una cabaña en el bosque, reciben la visita de cuatro extraños los cuales interrumpen en lo que en ese momento es el hogar de esa familia para hacerles saber que están en ese lugar para cumplir una misión en dónde el sacrificio será fundamental para salvar al mundo; es ese momento en dónde Eric, Andrew y Wen deberán pasar momentos terroríficos en dónde se pondrá en juicio cualquier entendimiento, raciocinio, sentimiento, en especial el del amor.
"Knock at the Cabin" is the new film by Shyamalan and which is based on the horror novel called "The Cabin at the End of the World", written by Paul Tremblay; in this story we will see how a small family composed of "Eric", "Andrew" and little "Wen" samples enjoy their vacation in a cabin in the woods, are visited by four strangers who interrupt what at that time is the home of that family to let them know that they are in that place to fulfill a mission where the sacrifice will be essential to save the world; It is at that moment where Eric, Andrew and Wen will have to go through terrifying moments where any understanding, reasoning, feeling, especially that of love, will be put on trial.
Cómo he dejado claro, está película es dirigida por Shyamalan quien junto a Steve Desmond y Michael Sherman, escribieron el guion; en mi opinión este pequeño film demuestra un gran trabajo en la dirección, destacado las pocas escenas en el exterior los cuales son muy detallistas y eso resalta el gran trabajo de fotografía que tiene este film; aparte de eso me gusta como se enfoca mucho en los rostros de los 7 personajes que conforman el film, demostrando siempre los diferentes gestos que nos demuestra, tranquilidad, ternura, miedo, rabia, decepción un acumulado de sentimientos los cuales se captan en cada escena.
La historia creada por Tremblay es muy buena y en mi opinión sirve mucho para el estilo de Shyamalan; eso sí, se nota sumamente la influencia de Stephen King y eso me agrada porque no la puedo clasificar como un film netamente de terror aunque si demuestre tópicos reales y sobrenaturales o ficción lo cual se sientan o creen terror; en eso me ha gustado como se maneja el relato donde la religión, creencias, orientación sexual, medios de comunicación, redes sociales y el amor en familia tienen un peso muy importante en esta historia que pareciera respetar los clichés de otras producciones que son parte del género de "Home Invasion", pero demuestra una gran diferencia la cual posiblemente no sea considerada como lo mejor para quien espere otra cosa de este film.
As I have made clear, this film is directed by Shyamalan who together with Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman, wrote the script; in my opinion this little film shows a great job in the direction, highlighting the few scenes in the exterior which are very detailed and that highlights the great work of photography that has this film; apart from that I like how it focuses a lot on the faces of the 7 characters that make up the film, always showing the different gestures that shows us, tranquility, tenderness, fear, anger, disappointment an accumulation of feelings which are captured in each scene.
The story created by Tremblay is very good and in my opinion is very much in line with Shyamalan's style; yes, the influence of Stephen King is very noticeable and I like that because I can't classify it as a purely horror film even if it shows real and supernatural topics or fiction that feel or create terror; in that I liked how the story is handled where religion, beliefs, sexual orientation, media, social networks and family love have a very important weight in this story that seems to respect the clichés of other productions that are part of the genre of "Home Invasion", but shows a big difference which may not be considered as the best for those who expect something else from this film.
Antes de hablar sobre el desempeño actoral en este film, debo decir que soy seguidor de lo que es llamado el Pro Wrestling y sé que en este momento, tres ex luchadores son parte de varias producciones importantes en Hollywood, me refiero a Dwayne Johnson, John Cena y Dave Bautista el cual en mi opinión ha interpretado a muy buenos personajes; en mi opinión es el ex luchador más activo en el cine y en esta oportunidad, en este film hace un buen trabajo como Leonard, líder de este extraño grupo de cuatro personas que deciden invadir una cabaña; su calma y comprensión es imponente como el físico y en mi opinión eso lo hace en momentos terroríficos sin en realidad querer serlo; Leonard es un hombre convencido, sabe lo que debe hacer y eso así como dice en el film, le rompe el corazón y es creíble, por eso considero que Bautista hace un excelente trabajo. Mi otro personaje favorito es "Wen" interpretado por Kristen Cui, niña dulce, soñadora, inteligente y fuerte; otro gran trabajo como en realidad de todos, sin importar la brevedad de sus escenas, todos los actores hacen un buen trabajo.
Before talking about the acting performance in this film, I must say that I am a follower of what is called Pro Wrestling and I know that at this time, three former wrestlers are part of several major productions in Hollywood, I mean Dwayne Johnson, John Cena and Dave Bautista which in my opinion has played very good characters; in my opinion he is the most active ex-wrestler in the movies and in this opportunity, in this film he does a good job as Leonard, leader of this strange group of four people who decide to invade a cabin; his calm and understanding is imposing as the physical and in my opinion that makes him in terrifying moments without really wanting to be; Leonard is a convinced man, he knows what he must do and that as he says in the film, breaks his heart and is believable, that's why I consider that Bautista does an excellent job. My other favorite character is "Wen" played by Kristen Cui, sweet, dreamy, intelligent and strong girl; another great job as actually from everyone, no matter the brevity of her scenes, all the actors do a good job.
Sé que en la actualidad el género del terror, muchas de las personas que pueden ver este tipo de producciones no son tan subjetivas cómo debería ser; por supuesto que toda expectativa que se genere de una producción y la respuesta a esa expectativa dependerá de que tan exitosa pueda ser y lamentablemente algunas veces vemos films esperando que suceda ciertas cosas que seguramente no ocurrirán; eso he visto que sucede una y otra vez en muchas producciones, en especial las consideradas de terror, porque se espera que sean siempre iguales a otros films, lo otro es no estar familiarizados con el trabajo de un director como Shyamalan el cual usa momentos de miedo para crear impacto en las historias que el crea, en mi opinión no son completamente films de terror, sí usa matices que pueden funcionar o no para crear ese impacto, pero yo no las veo como la típica película de terror y definirla por completo a un solo género; con esto no digo que no exista terror en este film, ya que usa el miedo para crear prejuicios, odio, rabia, complejos, los cuales serán en parte importante para el relato, pero no es la típica película de terror gráfico llena de escenas "jumpscare" y es que en mi opinión es un thriller psicológico, un pequeño film que explora diferentes situaciones y pone a prueba a un grupo de personas colocando en una balanza sus necesidades y las de otros; creo que es un trabajo correcto de Shyamalan en dirección y en parte del guion aunque debo decir que este debe ser uno de los films más predecibles que le he visto y seguramente eso hizo que no disfrutara por completo de "Knock at the Cabin"; mi consejo por si deciden verla es que lo hagan con muy poca expectativa y seguramente podrán disfrutar de esta historia.
I know that nowadays the horror genre, many of the people who can see this kind of productions are not as subjective as they should be; of course every expectation that is generated from a production and the response to that expectation will depend on how successful it can be and unfortunately sometimes we see films expecting certain things to happen that surely will not happen; i have seen that happen over and over again in many productions, especially those considered horror, because they are expected to be always the same as other films, the other thing is not being familiar with the work of a director like Shyamalan who uses scary moments to create impact in the stories he creates, in my opinion they are not completely horror films, he does use nuances that may or may not work to create that impact, but i don't see them as the typical horror film and define it completely to a single genre; with this I am not saying that there is no horror in this film, because it uses fear to create prejudice, hate, anger, complexes, which will be an important part of the story, but it is not the typical graphic horror film full of "jumpscare" scenes and in my opinion it is a psychological thriller, a small film that explores different situations and tests a group of people placing in a balance their needs and the needs of others; I think it is a correct work of Shyamalan in direction and in part of the script although I must say that this must be one of the most predictable films I've seen and surely that made me not enjoy completely "Knock at the Cabin"; my advice if you decide to see it is that you do it with very little expectation and surely you will enjoy this story.
