Scorpion es un personaje de la película Mortal Kombat en los ayeres de 1995 que pienso es un elemento clave en la sensación que causo la película en aquellos tiempos, en este post me enfocare solo en él haciendo una reseña sin spoilers y luego las interacciones que tuvo en ese film con otros personajes durante sus escenas.

La frialdad irónicamente es la característica principal de este personaje que se acompaña y se intensifica con una estética de otro mundo, solo vean la miniatura y es ultratumba lo que contemplas en Scorpion.

Para el que no ha visto este film, pudiera pensar que físicamente tiene cambios radicales pero no es así, solo es el poder de los ojos, recordemos que los seres humanos nos enfocamos visualmente en los ojos y si en una caracterización fílmica este elemento se logra imponer, esa energía, ese poder del personaje logrará llegar al espectador y pienso en este caso se ha logrado.

El personal de maquillaje y vestuario en el film lograron en el lienzo que es el actor Chris Casamassa una representación potente de este personaje basado en videojuegos y es mucho que decir porque en esa época es difícil lograr una visual que llegue a esos fans y publico en general, de hecho muchos films fracasan porque no logran transmitir esa visual, aun hoy día a pesar de los avances es complejo lograrlo y en este caso no es así, veo un Scorpion PERFECTO.

La voz aplasta radicalmente al espectador, en realidad no habla o conversa mucho, son contadas las veces que le escucharas pero está muy bien inspirado en los video juegos y se usan esos pocos diálogos que tiene para transmitir conflicto, batalla, sed de sangre, es un placer esas pocas veces que habla para decir tanto su frase celebre así como una mas que en mi caso nunca había escuchado de los juegos y quedo genial.

Un personaje con estilo amarillo ninja basado en artes marciales que no se ve falso al hacer las poses lo cual es muy importante en este tipo de films porque pesa la esencia ninja que posee, yo lo veo haciendo su estructura de batalla y creo es un Guerrero del Outworld, aun hoy veo sus escenas, sus movimientos, su entrada presentación y mi exclamación natural es un Wow!! y por eso se merece 8 chiquitos de 10 porque se queda en la mente del espectador con su estilo de batalla, visual, poses, frases y poderes del Scorpion.

A character with yellow ninja style based on martial arts that does not look fake when posing which is very important in this type of film because it weighs the ninja essence he has, I see him doing his battle structure and I think he is an Outworld Warrior, even today I see his scenes, his movements, his entrance presentation and my natural exclamation is a Wow!!! and that is why he deserves 8 out of 10 because he stays in the mind of the viewer with his battle style, visual, poses, phrases and powers of the Scorpion.

Inicio Zona de Spoiler para hablar de dos escenas donde hace aparición este personaje.

Primero es su entrada a cámara lenta junto a Sub Zero luego del llamado que hace el hechicero Shang Tsung, los movimientos lentos en la cámara lo realzan, le dan poder porque camina tal cual un guerrero ancestral, le veo y esto es lo que me transmite.

Todo lo anterior se amplifica por la música, mucha atención a la música, pude analizarla que ya tengo mas claridad de las cosas y conscientemente es una pasada porque combina una especia de techno, con guitarra eléctrica, sonidos místicos y destellos de misterio.

Claro, esto es muy importante porque en mis tiempos de niñez no me enfocaba en la música pero mi inconsciente si que la percibía y el film cumple, la banda sonora cumple en transmitirme el poder de los personajes, que llegue a mi la sensación de que estoy viendo semidioses guerreros.

Aunado a lo anterior, este personaje tiene el peso de los efectos especiales que para la época son anticuados pero para mi fueron de lo mejor, el como veo salir el aguijón del escorpión. Luego Raiden llega a poner orden y le quita lo majestuoso para quedar el como el Dios que es pero el personaje ya impacto y se quedo en la mente de esa generación que vio el film.

La segunda escena es la batalla contra Johnny Cage que tiene el elemento entorno perfecto, inicia con una secuencia en el bosque lleno de arboles pero no es desordenada su presencia, por el contrario, los árboles están en orden, eso llama la atención visualmente porque no es común permitiendo que el personaje haga sus mejores poses ninja de batalla acompañados de una mirada muerta que refleja su convicción por pelear.

Es un cazador y Cage es su presa, recuerdo cuando vi el film y vi en todo su esplendor el aguijón del escorpión atacar, me sorprendió porque mas bien parece como una serpiente de acero, eso siempre quedo en mi mente pero me agrado porque hasta tiene ojos y boca, tiene vida y sigue a su presa por todo el bosque, cuando se estrella con un árbol me pareció un poco absurdo, le quita peso pero seguimos en escena porque claro hay que verle batallar, Scorpion aun tiene poderes ocultos.

Cuando Scorpion traslada a Cage a su dimensión de fuego, recuerdo estaba alucinando, a día de hoy miro el escenario y no me sorprende tanto como en aquella época pero destaco que representaron muy bien el color rojo que le da al set poder, en mi niñez yo lo recuerdo mas impactante pero estoy seguro era la adrenalina de la batalla al máximo y eso es genial.

En el aspecto Batalla gana Scorpion totalmente, luego de mirar varias veces, Scorpion le da una paliza a Cage que solo se levanta porque el guion lo indica, de verdad solo pierde porque supongo Scorpion se agoto de tanto darle golpes a Cage. Finalmente llega la escena de fuego que es clímaX en esta batalla y Cage le gana de nuevo por guion.

La Batalla impacta en muchos aspectos, la coreografía se ve fácil pero eso que hacen en esos sitios batallando cuerpo a cuerpo es difícil, es de respetar, ahora admiro mucho mas aquellos minutos que vi de niño y no aprecie como de verdad se merece, la labor de Artistas Marciales que entregan el corazón días, semanas para entregarnos pocos minutos de acción y su fuerza.

Dedicado todos y cada uno de mis post y videos a mi perrita llamada princesa que la llamábamos chiquito que ya no está con nosotros pero desde el cielo verá que su existencia SI fue valiosa y lo más hermoso que existirá en mi corazón y alma.

When Scorpion moves Cage to his dimension of fire, I remember I was hallucinating, today I look at the scene and I'm not as surprised as at that time but I emphasize that they represented very well the red color that gives the set power, in my childhood I remember it more shocking but I'm sure it was the adrenaline of the battle to the maximum and that's great.

In the Battle aspect Scorpion wins totally, after watching several times, Scorpion beats up Cage who only gets up because the script indicates it, he really only loses because I guess Scorpion was exhausted from hitting Cage so much. Finally comes the fire scene which is the climax of this battle and Cage beats him again by script.

The battle impacts in many aspects, the choreography looks easy but what they do in those places battling body to body is difficult, it is to respect, now I admire much more those minutes I saw as a child and did not appreciate as it really deserves, the work of martial artists who give their hearts days, weeks to give us a few minutes of action and strength.

I dedicate each and every one of my posts and videos to my little dog named princess that we called her chiquito who is no longer with us but from heaven she will see that her existence was valuable and the most beautiful thing that will exist in my heart and soul.

In 1995, I along with other colleagues at my work had a VHS video store where action and martial arts movies were in high demand, the previous year two martial arts movies based on video games called Double Dragon and Street Fighter were in high demand.

Needless to say that before renting the movies, they were watched by us, of the first film I saw the only thing I would rescue are the fight scenes in which acts actively a B action hero and martial arts expert who has had a very irregular career in the movies Mark Dacascos. As for Street Fighter for me it was a total disappointment and a very cartoonish film especially the performances of Jean Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia, in his last film role. Even being a pale caricature of the character of Bison, every time Julia appears in the film he eats Van Damme with french fries. Already on VHS I had seen a very nice reference to the game in the 1993 Jackie Chan movie called City Hunter.

In those early Mortal Kombat games I took on various roles such as Johnny Cage, Raiden, Liu Kang, Scorpion, and even Sonya Blade! I would spend hours glued to the screen trying to get through levels and stages like The Courtyard, Palace Gates, Warriors Shrine, The Pit, Shang Tsung's Throneroom, Goro's Lair, and Pit Bottom.

Buying several VHS tapes to add to the video club I came across Mortal Kombat, its purchase was mandatory for commercial reasons, however, fear began to grip me as I was reminded of those two failed and horrible video game adaptations. Additionally, the only actor I knew in the film was the highlander Christopher Lambert.

I put the VHS tape in my player and started to watch the intro, and by then I started to get disillusioned with that music, a song called Techno Syndrome that I had heard before because in certain radios in my country, Venezuela, they were in charge of playing it almost all day long.

The movie lives up to the video game it adapts, although the combat is less gory. It is effective and succeeds in giving background to its main characters, has an imaginative design with Thai exteriors and extensive sets with exotic palaces.

Shan Tsung is played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and I think he is the most outstanding actor in the film, you can tell he enjoyed his role.

As a curious fact, it is said that the late Brandon Lee signed for the film before his death, and that Cameron Diaz already had the role of Sonya Blade but in training she got injured and was left out of the project. En 1995, yo junto a otros compañeros en mi trabajo teníamos un videoclub de VHS en donde tenían mucha demanda las películas de acción y de artes marciales, el año anterior fueron muy solicitadas dos películas de artes marciales basada en juegos de videos llamadas Double Dragon y Street Fighter.

Demás está decir que antes de alquilar las películas, estas eran visionadas por nosotros, del primer film que visione lo único que rescataría son las escenas de peleas en las que actúa activamente un héroe de acción serie B y experto en artes marciales que ha tenido una carrera muy irregular en el cine Mark Dacascos. En cuanto a Street Fighter para mí resulto una total decepción y un film muy caricaturesco en especial las actuaciones de Jean Claude Van Damme y Raúl Julia, en su último papel en el cine. Aún siendo una palida caricatura del personaje de Bison cada vez que Julia sale en la película se come con papas fritas a Van Damme.Ya en VHS había visto una referencia muy simpática del juego que se hace en la película de Jackie Chan de 1993 llamada City Hunter.

Entrando ya en materia, debo decir que en la época yo tenia mi consola Play Station I, y mi juego favorito era Mortal Kombat.

En aquellos primitivos juegos de Mortal Kombat asumi varios papeles como el de Johnny Cage, Raiden, Liu Kang, Scorpion, y hasta a Sonya Blade!. Pasaba hora pegado a la pantalla intentando sortear niveles y escenarios como The Courtyard, Palace Gates,Warriors Shrine, The Pit, Shang Tsung's Throneroom, Goro's Lair, y Pit Bottom.

Comprando varias cintas VHS para añadirlas al club de video me encuentre con Mortal Kombat, su compra era obligatoria por razones comerciales, sin embargo, el miedo comenzó a embargarme al recordarme de esas dos fallidas y horribles adaptaciones de video juegos. Adicionalmente, al único actor que conocía en el film era al highlander Christopher Lambert.

Pongo la cinta de VHS en mi reproductor y comienzo a ver el intro, ya por allí me empece a desilusionar con esa música un tema llamado Techno Syndrome que ya lo había oído con anterioridad porque en ciertas radios de mi país, Venezuela, se encargaban de machacarlo casi durante todo el día.

Llegan las imágenes de los actores y de las localizaciones de la película, quede asombrado, cambiando mi percepción del film, hay cuidadas coreografías de peleas y muy buenos efectos especiales en tiempos en los que las adaptaciones de videojuegos estaban en pañales. Note que aunque machacona, la música es muy buena acompañante en las escenas de acción.

La trama es muy simple: una serie de luchadores extraordinarios compiten para ser campeones del torneo Mortal Kombat y destruir, o salvar, el mundo.

La película le hace honor al videojuego que adapta, aunque los combantes son menos sangrientos. Es efectiva y logra darle un fondo a sus personajes principales, posee un imaginativo diseño con exteriores tailandeses y amplios decorados con exóticos palacios.

Shan Tsung es interpretado por Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, y creo que es el actor mas destacable del film se nota que disfruto su papel .

Muy impresionante, me resultaron Scorpion y Sub Zero gracias a un CGI muy transgresor para la época aunado a la aparición de personajes completamente creados en animación digital y animatronics como Goro.

Como dato curioso, se dice que el malogrado Brandon Lee ficho para la película antes de su fallecimiento, y que Cameron Díaz ya tenia el papel de Sonya Blade pero en los entrenamientos se lesiono quedando fuera del del proyecto. Jean Claude Van Damme rechazó el papel de Johnny Cage y prefirió filmar Street Fighter.

La película logra ser un éxito con 122 millones de dólares en la taquilla mundial. El film los dirigió Paul W. S. Anderson, muy conocido por dirigir casi todas las películas de la saga Resident Evil en la cual la protagonista es su esposa Milla Jovovich.

Vista hoy dia los efectos especiales se ven muy desfasados, pero en su época dieron mucho de que hablar, destacando que Goro siempre se vio como una gran marioneta.

Hola Hivers, un placer escribir nuevamente para todos ustedes, en esta ocasión quiero comentar sobre una película estrenada en este año y que en lo particular tenía muchos años esperando. Me encanta la Mortal Kombat desde que era niño y he visto películas y jugado sus videojuegos por lo cual es una producción obligatoria para ver y analizar, a continuación les presentaré un pequeño análisis acompañado con mi opinión personal para luego darle un puntaje o calificación a esta película.

Esta película es estrenada en abril de este año 2021, es una adaptación en Live Action de la franquicia de videojuegos de los años 90´s llamada del mismo modo, lo interesante es que Simon McQuoid debuta como director realizando este largometraje, un movimiento hozado desde mi perspectiva debido a que muchos fans de la franquicia en todo el mundo dirigieron su mirada a esta producción desde su estreno.

Producciones Anteriores

Antes de esta versión o nueva adaptación hubo muchas producciones desde 1995, sin embargo, muchos coincidirán conmigo que son contadas las películas que realmente gustan al público y que son un reflejo de la esencia de videojuego que sería la base para el éxito y la aceptación de los críticos más aguerridos.

Entre las películas podemos ver tanto adaptaciones en vida real como en animaciones, sin embargo, muchas son desechadas por los críticos por perder esa esencia de Mortal Kombat que hace vincular el videojuego con la gran pantalla. Puedo decir que la película que más me decepcionó es Mortal Kombat: Aniquilación (1997), por otro lado de niño disfruté enormemente Mortal Kombat (1995) y creo que es de las mejores incluso aun en el 2021 siguen estando en el sitio de honor para gran parte de los fanáticos.

Argumento

En el antiguo Japon la lucha de clanes rivales lleva al asesinato a la familia de uno de los más grandes guerreros de la tierra Hanzo Hasashi, el plan de Bi-Han parece ser completado con la excepción de la hija pequeña de Hanzo que es rescatada por el dios del trueno Raiden para seguir su linaje y cumplir con una misteriosa profecía en el Mortal Kombat.

Protagonista

A diferencia del resto de personajes el protagonista no es de los personajes conocidos en los videojuegos o películas pasadas, su debut dentro de la franquicia es realizado en esta película, viene del linaje de Scorpion y en la historia de esta película es pieza fundamental en la profecía que indica la salvación de la tierra.

En lo particular no soy enemigo de los nuevos personajes, aunque el diseño de este me parece que se sale un poco de la esencia del videojuego y pareciendo un súper héroe de otra franquicia, tal vez podamos ver su máximo potencial en batalla en la siguiente película.

El diseño de los otros personajes parece que les faltó algo en cuanto a la intimidación o fuerza, a primera vista parecen muy débiles a diferencia del videojuego o películas pasadas, me agradó el personaje de Sonya Blade y de Jackson "Jax" Briggs, tal vez kano tiene mucho protagonismo pero era necesario implantar a un idiota en la trama.

Ambos son los personajes icónicos de la franquicia, quien no ha jugado con alguno de estos personajes en un videojuego, son parte esencial de toda la franquicia agregando una rivalidad interminable entre ambos, sin embargo, en esta película se cambia un poco la historia.

En los videojuegos y en gran parte de las producciones cinematográficas Scorpion es el anti-héroe, es decir se podría catalogar como el villano y Sub-Zero lo hemos visto del lado de los buenos, sin embargo, todo cambia en esta película 2021, también cambia la historia de ambos que si bien Sub-Zero asesina a Hanzo lo hace en otras circunstancias y este último es revivido para convertirse en Scorpion, tal vez esto moleste a los más acérrimos fan de la franquicia pero en lo particular no le presté mucha atención.

Me parece deben parecerse más los atuendos de ambos, sin embargo, la película nos muestra una parte de la cultura japonesa entre ambos personajes. Sub-Zero con una apariencia más de ninja y a Scorpion más parecido a un Samuray, una mítica rivalidad entre guerreros de la cultura nipona. Fatality y Escenas de Acción

Las escenas de acción son bien estructuradas, desde el principio podemos ver los movimientos coordinados y una buena cantidad de sangre, es importante resaltar que la fantasía oscura que rodea a Mortal Kombat es complementada con mucha sangre. Aunque son de muy buena calidad alguna de estas escenas me hubiese gustado ver más, espero ver más acción en la siguiente película.

En algunos casos podemos ver que algunos lugares de pelea son inspirados en los videojuegos, sin embargo, hay otros que no concuerdan o no nos recuerda a la franquicia, por ejemplo una batalla en una casa corriendo y en un baño, las batallas deben ser épicas y enigmáticas no en cualquier sitio para poder sentir la esencia del videojuego.

En estas mismas escenas de acción presenciamos momentos en que se hace referencia a los videojuegos, los mismos personajes o una voz indicando el ganador o diciendo la famosa palabra “FATALITY”. En cuanto a sangre creo que le faltó un poco más a los fatalities o a las heridas, así como lo mencioné anteriormente es importante tener en cuenta la calificación de la película por lo cual no veremos cosas fuera de tono pero comercialmente satisfactorio.

Parte esencial de la franquicia es la banda sonora, todavía recuerdo la música de batallas en la película de 1995, en esta tiene buen ritmo pero no se aprecia tanto como en la de 1995, aunque si otorga buena emoción al combate me hubiese gustado más protagonismo para esta banda sonora sustancial para los fanáticos de la franquicia.

I first discovered the Mortal Kombat franchise when I was a little kid thanks to one of its video games from the 90s, but since there were so many Mortal Kombat video games in that decade I don't exactly remember which one I had. I suspect it was Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 but I am not sure.

One of my favorite characters was Sub-Zero simply because he wore the blue color and his power was related to ice. I have always preferred cold weather and snow, so I guess that made my young mind prefer Sub-Zero. However, I fought better when I used Motaro. That was the only way I could defeat Shao Kahn, who was the ultimate boss and the most difficult character.

I didn't know anything about the Mortal Kombat story so I was completely neutral regarding which character I preferred. I always disliked Shao Kahn but only because he was the ultimate rival in the game. Raiden for example, who is super important in the story and a good character, never really interested me because I didn't like his looks.

Goro always looked very intimidating and sometimes defeating him was harder than defeating Shao Kahn, but there was an even bigger 4 armed character called Kintaro who was also like half a tiger or something like that. I think he never appeared in any of the movies so I don't really know much about that one, only that he was bigger than Goro and therefore, probably even stronger.

Mortal Kombat was the first videogame about fights that I ever played, eventually after I got my PS1 Tekken 3 became my favorite one, but I never forgot about Mortal Kombat. I even purchased the Mortal Kombat 9 videogame from 2011 for my X360 but it wasn't the same, I had already outgrown those types of games and was more focused on other ones such as Skyrim and later on GTA V.

So far, I have only watched 2 Mortal Kombat movies, the first one from 1995, and the second one that I just watched last night. I just noticed there was also a movie in 1997 that I didn't watch and it was the continuation of the story from the 1995 film, I never knew this film was produced and I don't know why we never watched it in my house but a glimpse at its reviews tell me it wasn't a good film.

Due to all of the enjoyment I had while playing that old Mortal Kombat I was now quite hyped about this new film. I didn't expect masterful performances, but just a nice little story that allows me to watch these characters on the screen once again. Those were my only expectations.

Main names associated with the film

This film doesn't have well-known people working in it. All the members of the cast were completely unknown to me, and this the first movie by the director. So I guess it is fair to say the film had a bunch of people with little experience or a lot of experience but in just lesser-known productions. This isn't necessarily bad of course, however knowing this might be useful to adjust the viewer's expectation.

What was the movie about?

Mortal Kombat is a multi realm deathmatch tournament where special fighters representing their realms fight with each other. There is a realm called Outworld that for some reason wants to conquer the Earth realm and has been defeating Earth's champions in the previous tournaments. In order to conquer Earth, they need to kill all of the special fighters that might be capable of stopping them.

The main character who hunts Earth's champions is Sub-Zero, but we also see the reptilian character Syzoth who looks very different compared to the videogame I played from the 90s. In the video game, Syzoth, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion looked almost the same, and the only difference was the color in their suits, Sub-Zero used blue, Scorpion yellow, and Syzoth used green. Apart from this color difference, they all looked the same to me. In the film, Syzoth is a real lizard that knows how to fight very well and has saliva that can melt metal. He doesn't look human in the least and is 100% a reptile.

I was quite happy with the selection of characters that made their appearance in this film. This was basically my main reason to watch it. The fights were all right, and one of the things I didn't enjoy was the special effects related to the Raiden character. His white eyes didn't look very good, and his thunder powers also looked crappy. In comparison, Shang Tsung's power did look good. So I don't understand what happened with Raiden's thunders.

The film provides a little bit of backstory regarding the origin of Mortal Kombat, but this is done in a quick manner and leaving the viewer with more questions than answers. This didn't bother me that much, because I was only expecting to see cool action scenes and not necessarily a well-constructed plot.

The dialogues left much to be desired. They felt extremely simple, lacked depth and spontaneity. There were also some plotholes but this wasn't a surprise, to be honest. The Kano character felt overacted in some scenes while in others he was all right.

Some of the charactersç iconic moves are present which was super fun to watch, and the fights were really entertaining and with the type of action anyone would expect from a Mortal Kombat production. Sub-Zero provides a lot of intense scenes, and I also enjoyed watching the fights with Kabal and the huge beast Goro, who were 2 intimidating villains.

I would have like to see more of Raiden but I guess that since he is so much powerful, he could have easily overpowered some of the villains and the fights would have been over. He plays an important role in some key moments, but all in all, he was just a secondary character. The main character is the one that will confuse most Mortal Kombat fans because he is a completely new character. I don't get why the writers decided to add a new character to an already rich-enough franchise, but they did.

Despite some shortcomings, I believe Mortal Kombat is the best fighting film to be produced in a long time.

Sub-Zero ofrece muchas escenas intensas, y también disfruté viendo las peleas con Kabal y la enorme bestia Goro, que eran 2 villanos intimidantes.

Me hubiera gustado ver más a Raiden, pero supongo que, dado que es tan poderoso, podría haber vencido fácilmente a algunos de los villanos y las peleas habrían terminado. Juega un papel importante en algunos momentos clave, pero en general, fue solo un personaje secundario. El personaje principal es el que confundirá a la mayoría de los fanáticos de Mortal Kombat porque es un personaje completamente nuevo. How were the performance, the settings and the camera work?

The performance from the cast was regular, some dialogues were crappy, and the same can be said about the performance of certain members of the cast, but it is easy to simply see past that and enjoy the cool fights. The movie shows us glimpses of other realms, and the best fight happens in a very cool setting that seemed like taken out of a videogame.

The first scene of the film was also one of the best ones and it had great camera work but in this regard, the film was just average for the most part. If it wasn't for the cool characters, the people involved in the film would have a hard time producing something that is really worth watching.

Final thoughts

Mortal Kombat provided exactly what I was looking for. A bunch of good fighting scenes with some of Mortal Kombat's coolest characters and there are even a few fatalities. The bad dialogue and simpleton plot is something that usually comes along with action films where the main attraction is just mindless scenes. The film left the door open for a potential second one, and I hope they decide to produce it. There are still important characters that haven't appeared yet and it would be cool to watch them on the screen as well.

Mortal Kombat the film is a film that could be described with many words but boring is not one of it, although from the cinematographic point of view I feel that it leaves much to be desired as a by-product of the story this other, for this I wanted to segment my comments into two posts (one focused on the film in isolation, and another reviewing it as the product of a video game franchise).

Estoy demasiado sorprendido con la capacidad de sintetizar una gran parte del lore de MK en una película de menos de dos horas, abordando de manera detallada a varios personajes con mucho respeto de sus fuentes originales, no solo en lo estético sino en lo sustancial.

La pregunta es, ¿Es mejor que los videojuegos? No, los títulos de Mortal Kombat cuentan con una serie de peculiaridades que les hacen funcionar, en teoría, es una mezcla de estética y estilos narrativos que no debería funcionar, pero bajo un concepto tan absurdo como el de un combate mortal para salvar el destino de la tierra todo termina funcionando. Esto se ve reponteciado por el estilo arcada del videojuego y lo agradable que es tener una plantilla con personajes tan variados, cada uno, por supuesto, tiene un background, algunos de naturaleza un poco más seria que otras, pero todo siempre termina operando bajo la lógica de sus juegos, sin que como jugadores cuestionemos demasiado, al fin y al cabo la diversión es lo que debe primar.

Aquí es probablemente donde la cinta sufre más, tratando de mezclar todas esas influencias y variedades, no todo es oscuro por supuesto, hay un par de logros qué hay que reconocer.

La línea entre poner los ojos en blanco por una referencia forzada y disfrutar una referencia bien puesta es muy delgada, y MK tiene abundantes casos de ambos lados. No obstante, el resultado general es satisfactorio, siempre y cuando apagues el cerebro.

Cualquier persona racional tendrá expectativas bajas al enfrentar esta cinta, y terminará sintiéndose bastante agradecido, se trata de entretenimiento puro y duro sin profundidad absurda.

Para aquellos que se sientan un poco desconcertados por el concepto, quizá ponerse frente a la saga de videojuegos aclare un poco sus mentes, esto siempre ha sido una idea absurda pero en algunos medios funciona mejor que en otros, eso es parte natural del proceso.

Recomiendo totalmente Mortal Kombat para los fans de la franquicia y para aquellos que quieran violencia desmedida, captura con más o menos existo el alma de estos títulos, y reavivará las ganas de echarse unas partidas, que al final es lo que se disfruta más.

It is a bit difficult for me to analyze a movie like Mortal Kombat in isolation from the fact that it is an adaptation of one of the biggest video game franchises in the world, but I will try.

MK is a film that depending on what you expect of it (obviously) can work very well or very badly, as an action film is a triumph, entertaining and with special effects of a lot of quality and consistency, with a plot that acts as a thread. driver for such technical deployment.

Now, as the presentation of a new universe with some complexity? Well the results are slightly disappointing.

Mortal Kombat throws information and characters to the viewer at all times, and in that nest of darts not everyone ends up nailed to the board. It is inevitable that the good characters end up being overshadowed by the bad ones.

Like Spoiler: we have Kano, Kano is a character who seeks to act as a humorous counterweight, resulting in a film that has problems defining its own tone, and that can move quickly and without any fluidity from seriousness to children's comedy. The problem is not in the search for humor itself, but in how it clashes with a story that seeks to take itself so seriously.

Although the number of characters in the franchise that manages to bottle is surprising, it is difficult to deny that reducing the staff the result would have been superior.

In more technical terms as I mentioned a while ago, the CGI is fantastic and consistent, I would not call it perfect but it is quite well elaborated so as not to distract in its worst moments, special mention to Subzero and the way he portrays his control of the ice.

The battles in general are quite creative and take advantage of the abilities of each character, from the first minutes of the footage they are the best part of the film.

It is necessary? That is a debate where facing it with cynicism will always give a no for an answer, but who are we to deny what the masses want? In mortal kombat you will find simple and fun cinema, with ambitions that sometimes land and sometimes don't, is it worth it? Again the answer is in you.

Para mi es un poco difícil analizar una película como Mortal Kombat aislada del hecho de es una adaptación a una de las franquicias de videojuegos más grandes de todo el mundo, pero haré el intento.

MK es un filme que dependiendo de lo que esperes de el (obviamente) puede funcionar muy bien o muy mal, como una cinta de acción es un triunfo, entretenida y con efectos especiales de bastante calidad y consistencia, con una trama que hace de hilo conductor para dicho despliegue técnico.

Ahora, ¿Como la presentación de un nuevo universo con cierta complejidad? Pues los resultados son ligeramente decepcionantes.

Mortal Kombat arroja información y personajes al espectador a cada rato, y en ese nido de dardos no todos terminan clavados en el tablero. Resultando inevitable que los buenos personajes terminen siendo opacados por los malos.

Como Spoiler: tenemos a Kano, Kano es un personaje que busca hacer de contrapeso humorístico, llevando como resultado a una película que tiene problemas definiendo su propio tono, y que puede pasar rápidamente y sin fluidez alguna de la seriedad a la comedia infantil. El problema no está en la búsqueda del humor en si, sino en como desentona con una historia que busca tomarse a sí misma con tanta seriedad.

Aunque la cantidad de personajes de la franquicia que logra embotellar es sorprendente, es difícil negar que reduciendo la plantilla el resultado hubiese sido superior.

En términos ya más técnicos como mencione hace rato el cgi es fantástico y consistente, no lo llamaría perfecto pero está bastante bien elaborado como para no distraer en sus peores momentos, especial mención a Subzero y a la forma de retratar su control del hielo.

Las batallas en general son bastante creativas y le sacan provecho a las habilidades de cada personaje, desde los primeros minutos de metraje son la mejor parte del film.

¿Es necesaria? Ese es un debate en donde afrontarlo con cinismo siempre dará un no como respuesta, pero, ¿Quienes somos nosotros para negar lo que las masas desean? En mortal kombat encontrarán cine simple y divertido, con ambiciones que a veces aterrizan y a veces no, ¿Vale la pena? De nuevo la respuesta está en ustedes.

›Mortal Kombat (2021): No one beats Sub-Zero? This movie can do it@freddbrito1887d

It's been a few months since I've done a post like this and I haven't been watching "new" movies/series, in fact, these last few months I've been re-watching The Office for I think the 4th time. Although two weeks ago I watched Wolfwalkers, which is an excellent and beautiful animated movie, I forgot to do a post about it (and now I'm too lazy to do it); so today's post will be about the "long awaited" Mortal Kombat 2021 movie. I'll be very honest, I didn't expect anything from this movie and although some things from the trailer looked good, I knew it would be a trash, however, I didn't expect it to be so bad, I even think that the first movie, at least has more personality than the 2021 movie, so this phrase from Malcolm In The Middle fits very well with what I think about Mortal Kombat 2021:

This will not be a review as such, it's more like my impressions of the series and the many things I didn't like and found ridiculous, to the point of causing me cringe, so this post is going to be relatively short. Even though I didn't have high expectations with this new adaptation, at least I expected the fights to be better than the old movies and the only highlight with the 2021 version is the intro, where you see Hanzo before he dies and becomes Scorpion. That introduction was really good, with a lot of action, a lot of blood and violence, but after that the movie did nothing but fall downhill and only rises again in the last minutes of the movie, when Scorpion appears, but still, although in the final fight against Sub-Zero, was another of the best things of the series, it was not something spectacular either, although there are "good" moments. However, Sub-Zero gets the beating of his life, so Hal's phrase does not fit in this situation.

There are things I liked like the origin of Jax's metal arms, which due to Sub-Zero's powers, he froze them and broke them, but then in Raiden's temple (which has a shitty attitude in this movie, he is much more despicable than Shang Tsung), they implanted him new arms, but of dubious quality material, but then with "arcane magic", those arms made in a factory in China "evolved", all with magic... of course.

I haven't said it yet, but in this movie, the warriors selected for Mortal Kombat are assigned a mark, which is the classic dragon symbol from the game. There are two ways to get them, one is "naturally" by being chosen or by killing someone who already has that symbol. The only one who has no symbol is Sonya, but after killing Kano, she steals the symbol and from one scene to another, again with magic, she activates her magical powers and helps Cole (protagonist invented for this movie) to defeat Mileena, in the most random way possible.

I think one of the biggest disappointments of this movie is Liu Kang, he really is the worst character and if we compare him with his version of the first movie he is much worse. No personality, no charisma, nothing, he looks like a stupid kid. Raiden is lousy, a total asshole, who says he can't intervene in Mortal Kombat, but then he gives Kole the "dagger" of Scorpion, which allows to summon him at the end of the movie and also, at the end, with his powers he teleports everyone (even the enemies) to random places, so "he can't intervene in the fights" is a stupid excuse. I hated this Raiden so much that I will post a gif of the previous version.

Another ridiculous thing about the series is the way they say the phrases from the game, "Fatality", "Fables Victory", among others, it's too embarrassing. It's like the director said: "We must put more references to the video game, so let's put the actors to say the typical phrases out of nowhere, even if they look totally stupid".

I could say more things about this movie, but I want to end with the biggest "bait" of the whole movie. I don't really have a problem with the main character being a totally made up character and being a descendant of Hanzo/Scorpion, but what I really have a problem with is that the movie is about 1:40 long and Scorpion only appears for the last 10 minutes. He shows up and together with Cole they defeat Sub-Zero and he leaves. And so, Scorpion only appears those last few minutes and is the most despicable thing in the movie. But worst of all, they plan to keep making continuations of this garbage.

Round 1, FIGHT 🐉

Back in December 2020, HBO announced that Mortal Kombat (and several other movies) would be coming to it’s streaming service on the same day that they released in theaters. My anticipation for MK was at a pretty high level by the time it finally released on 04/23/21.

Nearly a month ago now, I purchased a monthly membership to HBO Max. I mainly did this so that I could watch the new Warner Brothers releases in 4K. Godzilla vs. Kong was the first of the Warner Bros movies that I absolutely couldn’t miss. After watching that and seeing how amazing it was, my hopes for Mortal Kombat skyrocketed even higher than they already were.

A few weeks ago I purchased Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate to better prepare for the upcoming movie. I had been playing through the story and enjoying it quite thoroughly. This held me over a bit longer until the movie finally was available to stream on HBO Max.

This past Friday night after my dinner date, I finally was able to watch Mortal Kombat with @flowerbaby. I am so happy to proclaim that the new MK movie is just as bad ass as I was hoping it would be. Both @flowerbaby and I absolutely loved this film.

Finish Them ☠️

The plot of the movie is fairly simple. A downtrodden MMA fighter named Cole Young is forced to help seek out Earthrealm’s greatest champions. This was supposed to be for competition in the ancient Mortal Kombat tournament, but before that can even begin things get out of control thanks to Shang Tsung and the gang.

The movie begins deep into the past, following an iconic battle between Sub-Zero and Scorpion. After a brief intro, time accelerates to present day. It is there that we meet the seemingly pitiful Cole Young. He’s not a very exciting character and is struggling to find his inner combantant, after many years of fighting brutal battles for very little pay. It feels as though Cole Young functions as a character for newcomers to the Mortal Kombat world to become better accustomed with everything that is going on. Cole is mostly just along for the ride until near the end of the movie where he learns more about who he really is. It is the original Mortal Kombat characters that he meets throughout the story that really spice up this film and make it so fantastic.

Fatality 🩸

You can expect to see a large amount of familiar MK faces in this violent film. There are several famous characters that were not in this movie, but that is how it had to be. If they had introduced more fighters, then it would have just become overwhelming.

Nearly all of the fighters that were in the movie were very memorable:
- Sonya Blade
- Kano
- Sub-Zero
- Jax
- Raiden
- Scorpion
- Shang Tsung
- Liu Kang
- Kung Lao
- Mileena
- Nitara
- Reiko
- Kabal
- Goro
The only two MK fighters that I felt were kind of boring were Reiko and Nitara. They just didn't have much to say or screen time for that matter. I will add that the fatalities performed on each those two were extremely satisfying, so they were not totally worthless.

The over the top gore was what brought me to see this film, but I was happily shocked to also laugh my ass off several times. By far Kano (Josh Lawson) was the biggest surprise to me. He provided the comedic relief that propelled me to love this film so much. The Australian accent mixed with pure evil made for a stand-out performance. I have officially added "Suck on my sack" to my list of sarcastic vulgarities.

A near flawless victory 🏆

The film was not perfect, I will go ahead and admit that. It was however good enough to make me beg for the next 4 Mortal Kombat movies (not confirmed yet.) The fighting scenes were so pleasing since it was actual martial arts. Of course these sequences were elevated by some fantastic special effects. Sub-Zero's ice abilities will forever be one of the coolest things to me. Every character has their own unique skills that make the cast feel very diverse. Many of the fighters do not discover their power right away, but you will love it once they finally do.

I urge you to not only watch this movie, but do so in 4K. It is absolutely gorgeous and for certain worth your time. Even if you know nothing about Mortal Kombat, you will still be able to enjoy this one. That is unless you are afraid of massive amounts of blood and guts. If that is the case, then by all means avoid this movie.

En ocasiones me animo a ver películas que no tienen nada que ver con el mundo real y eso es genial, ya que puedo relajarme sin pensar mucho, pero soy de esos Cinéfilos que le gusta que lo engañen bien, si amigos que la trama por muy fantasiosa que sea me termine convenciendo, no solo quiero ver fantasía o acción a lo loco quiero ver que la película tenga forma para disfrutar como se debe.

Anoche tuve la oportunidad de ver Mortal Kombat, la verdad estaba con muchas ganas de ver está versión que sin duda a nivel visual nos presentaban algo muy interesante, obviamente no la puedo comparar con la versión del año 95. Lo cual ponía mis expectativas en lo más alto tomando en cuenta que han pasado años y la tecnología en estos tiempos es arte puro.

Tenía en mente encontrarme con una película que me mostrará buenas escenas de acción con mucha sangre y eso fue lo que me entregó de inicio a final, pero debo decir sin miedo a equivocarme que la historia donde se intentan desarrollar estos personajes no tiene pies ni cabeza. Esto de por sí ya me hacía sentir algo incómodo y no podía dejar de pensar en oa versión de 95 que no tendrá los mejores efectos visuales por obvias razones, pero si cuenta con una mejor historia.

I had in mind to find a movie that would show me good action scenes with lots of blood and that's what I got from beginning to end, but I must say without fear of being wrong that the story where these characters try to develop has no head or tail. This in itself made me feel a little uncomfortable and I couldn't stop thinking about the 95 version that won't have the best visual effects for obvious reasons, but it does have a better story.

Una buena mejor historia que te puede enganchar de inicio a final, con una música de fondo que hará latir aún más tu corazón, tendrás tantas ganas de verla una y otra vez solo para eliminar de tu mente el mal trabajo que han hecho en esta nueva versión. Es lamentable pensar que una película con pocos recursos tecnológicos y una historia fácil de plantear pudo superar a una película que cuentas con grandes recursos a nivel visual, pero que se quedó a medias mostrando una estructura narrativa que sin dudas es la peor que he visto en este género de películas.

De antemano ya debes tener una idea de lo que me pareció la película, pero quiero compartir con la comunidad desde diferentes puntos lo que opino de esta película y sobre todo hablarte desde lo más profundo de mi corazón Cinéfilo que sin duda está sufriendo, pero no te preocupes no habrá SPOILERS por lo cual puedes seguir adelante.

¿POR DÓNDE EMPEZAR?

Definitivamente tengo problemas con esta película, pensé en disfrutarla, pero es difícil ignorar el enorme fallo narrativo que tiene está película, donde nos intentan vender una historia que no se puede sujetar ella misma y termina cayendo en un pozo sin fondo. La historia en sí no es difícil de entender, pero la forma en que nos presentan a los personajes y el motivo principal por el cual se unen en esta batalla final es una real estupidez que solo puede tener un resultado, el fracaso.

Quizás un porcentaje de seguidores de esta franquicia le haya gustado esta película, pero estoy seguro de que una gran parte de esa comunidad y de nuevos seguidores estarán de acuerdo de que es la peor película del año. Puedo afirmar que Godzilla vs Kong es superior a esta película y no podemos olvidar que también tiene una pésima estructura narrativa. Pero sigue siendo mucho mejor que mortal Kombat.

🇺🇸 WHERE TO START?

I definitely have problems with this movie, I thought I enjoyed it, but it's hard to ignore the huge narrative flaw this movie has, where they try to sell us a story that can't hold itself together and ends up falling into a bottomless pit. The story itself is not difficult to understand, but the way the characters are presented to us and the main reason why they come together in this final battle is a real stupidity that can only have one result, failure.

Maybe a percentage of fans of this franchise liked this movie, but I'm sure a large part of that community and new fans will agree that this is the worst movie of the year. I can say that Godzilla vs Kong is superior to this movie and we can't forget that it also has a lousy narrative structure. But it is still much better than mortal Kombat.

Sus personajes principales son presentados de una manera tan vaga y poco atractiva que no puedes conectar con ellos de ninguna forma y pasas la mitad del tiempo pensando en los personajes de la versión del 95 y comparando cada escena, lo cual te distrae, ya que es casi imposible no pensar en la otra versión a ver lo mal ejecutado que está esta película.

Cada escena sirve como puente para unir a los personajes, pero tienen un vacío estructural tan grande que si es la primera vez que vez está película, puede que no entiendas nada de lo que te cuenten. Esto sucede ya que desde mi parecer es una película para esa viaja escuela que ya tiene conocimiento sobre la franquicia o por lo menos ha visto las películas anteriores de MORTAL KOMBAT.

De por sí esto es un punto negativo para la película que no pierde oportunidad en mostrar tantos vacíos que sin duda desconectan por completo al espectador o en mi caso personal me mantuvo desconectado un 60% de su trama. Lo único aceptable y que me mantuvo hasta el final fue la parte visual de la cual voy a hablar a continuación.

UNA ESTÉTICA VISUAL ACEPTABLE

Si aceptable ya que cumple con lo esperado y es que posee escenas brutales donde la sangre es la protagonista y te quedas con una buena sensación donde puedes decir: esto si es Mortal Kombat, lo cual le da ese punto positivo y es su salva vidas por así llamarlo.

Desde el inicio nos muestra ambientaciones donde podemos ver a detalle un trabajo estético bien planteado y que si se tomaron el tiempo de construir con cuidado para dejar al espectador encantado a nivel visual. Escenas muy frías con una fotografía casi perfecta con colores tenues, cálidos, oscuros que sin duda verla en alta definición debe ser un espectáculo.

Claro debo decir que me hubiera gustado ver escenas más brutales al mejor estilo de los Fatalitis y ** Brutalities** que son un clásico dentro de esta franquicia. Eso nos faltó ver mucho en casi toda la película, la cual obviamente cuenta con buenas escenas de acción y desmembramiento de cuerpos, pero no a un nivel que te haga volar la cabeza. Ese tipo de cosas no fueron explotadas al 100% y no entiendo el motivo por el cual se concentraron tanto en la historia que dejaron a un lado lo realmente atractivo de MORTAL KOMBAT.

La música fue de esos recursos poco utilizados, donde algunas melodías con niveles muy bajos no marcaron ninguna diferencia y nos quedaron a deber la música épica que si pudimos disfrutar a lo largo de la versión del 95.

EL RECURSO NARRATIVO ES UN TOTAL FRACASO EN ESTÁ PELÍCULA

Es algo que vengo hablando desde el inicio de este post y lo quiero desarrollar un poco más, sin duda se fueron por lo seguro, pero aun así no supieron aprovechar todo lo que presentaron dentro de esta nueva versión que deja mucho a deber. Principalmente al momento de presentar a los personajes principales es como si de ante mano hubieran dejado claro que es una película para esos viejos seguidores o amantes de hueso colorado de la franquicia.

Desde quien era cada personaje y la razón por la que los están uniendo para esta batalla final. Sin dejar de lado la poca estructura que posee la trama principal.

Personajes que no poseen un buen desarrollo, escenas de relleno que solo apresuran los momentos donde dan inicio a las batallas que por si solas pierden sentido o atractivo, ya que parece que solo quieren salir del paso lo más rápido posible.

Cada escena donde nos presentan una pelea es tan poco atractiva que quieres adelantar las escenas para no seguir viendo algo que ya de por sí no tiene forma. Las únicas escenas que realmente valen la pena ver es donde Sub-Zero y Scorpion se enfrentan las demás escenas son puro relleno, carentes de emoción y acción.

Una historia poco interesante, que solo te ofrece ver situaciones que no aportan nada positivo y que solo te mantiene en estado de reposo a la espera de que algo genial ocurra para darle una segunda oportunidad a la película. Estamos obviamente claros que es una película para disfrutar de buenas escenas sin estar pensando mucho en su historia, pero es difícil dejar pasar esos momentos que definitivamente te arruinan la película y solo deseas que se termine para ver la versión del 95 y comparar cuál es la mejor.

We are obviously clear that it is a movie to enjoy good scenes without thinking too much about its story, but it is hard to let go of those moments that definitely ruin the movie and you just want it to be over to see the 95 version and compare which one is the best.

¿LA VERSIÓN DEL AÑO 95 ES MEJOR QUE LA ACTUAL?

Quizás esto te lo estés preguntando y debo decirte desde mi punto de vista que si, la versión del 95 es mucho mejor que la actual y esto quizás te sorprenda, pero a pesar de que está nueva versión tienen mejores efectos visuales queda mucho a deber con respecto a desarrollo de historia y presentación de personajes.

Claro la versión del 95 no es una obra de arte y tiene sus fallos, pero el desarrollo de sus personajes es mucho mejor, ya que se toman el tiempo de presentarnos a cada uno y el porqué y para qué se encuentran dentro de esta situación que es la batalla final. Podemos conocer el origen y motivaciones de cada personaje y eso es bueno, ya que no te pierdes nada y puedes tener una base para entender la historia que nos presentan sin tener que conocer de antemano la franquicia de videojuegos.

Ya esto es clave para distinguir una versión de la otra y comparar cuál es realmente mejor. Tenía mucha fe en que nos mostrarían algo interesante con esta nueva versión, pero lo dejaron todo a la suerte y sin duda fue una mala jugada.

Es la primera vez que calificó una película en dos partes y debo hacerlo, ya que sería injusto calificarla de manera general cuando una parte de la película la verdad si me gusto y el apartado visual el cual para mí tiene gran peso dentro de la película y por ellos le doy un 4/5, a nivel narrativo lo calificó con un 1.5/5 para una calificación final de 5.5/10.

En términos generales es una excelente película para todos aquellos que crecimos siendo amantes de franquicia. Hay que tener claro y entender algo, esta es una película de peleas, sangre, patadas y fatalities, esperar algo diferente no tiene sentido.

Generally speaking, it is an excellent movie for all of us who grew up being franchise lovers. You have to be clear and understand something, this is a movie of fights, blood, kicks and fatalities, expecting something different does not make sense.

Ahora, si me faltó un poco más de fluidez en ciertas peleas, porque a ver, si es una película de puro combate lo menos que espero que sean extraordinarios. No me malinterpreten, están bien logrados pero si pudieron haber estado un par de escalones por arriba teniendo en cuenta el casting. Por ejemplo el personaje de Sub Zero, Joe Taslim, es un actor que pelea de una manera única, a él lo pueden ver en una serie que se llama "Warrior" (que pronto hablaré de ella), y la verdad es que sus escenas son de otro nivel.

Now, if I lacked a little more fluency in certain fights, because let's see, if it is a film of pure combat at least I hope they are extraordinary. Don't get me wrong, they are well done but they could have been a couple of steps above considering the casting. Una película que se puede ver y es totalmente disfrutable, me gustó bastante y doy gracias de que no me decepcionó para nada. Por ponerle una puntuación le doy un 7.5/10 porque merece mucho la pena verla. Está disponible en HBO Max y tiene una duración de casi 2 horas.

A movie that can be seen and is totally enjoyable, I liked it a lot and I am thankful that it did not disappoint me at all. For putting a score I give it a 7.5 / 10 because it is very worth seeing. It is available on HBO Max and runs for almost 2 hours.

Nostalgia glasses make everything seem much brighter and movies seem much better than they are. Case in point Mortal Kombat which I just rewatched for the I don’t know how many time just for the fun of it. I’m only referring to the first movie only.

And yes, I also used to play the first, second and third game when I was young. By any normal standard this movie is really bad. But, it’s so bad that it’s fun. In the movie Liu Kang (Robin Shou), Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby) and Sonya Blade (Bridgette Wilson-Sampras) are summoned to compete in Mortal Kombat, a one on one series of battles that will determine the fate of the world as forces from Outworld want to take over the planet. It’s not a great plot, but it held the computer games and it holds the movie.

This movie is full of one liners way before Marvel made it a must in each movie. And also, if you are really sensitive person, you will probably be offended by the movie. I can’t even count how many times they referred to the way the female characters look. The fighting sequences are fun as long as you don’t look for logic in them. Sonya Sonya Blade vs. Kano is obviously my favorite fight of the movie, followed by Johnny Johnny Cage vs. Goro – a battle that always makes me laugh. The setting is cheap, the costumes are cheap, but the scenery is beautiful. Also, because the movie came out in 1995 it goes without saying that the CGI is pretty bad, but I feel like I can ignore it.

The best part about this movie is by far the soundtrack. Till this day, I listen to it endlessly. The theme song of this movie is still my favorite theme song of any movie. It’s just so upbeat. It represents the best parts of 90s music in my opinion.

There was a terrible sequel (it didn’t even have a good soundtrack). A tv show which I watched in part, that totally does not make me feel nostalgic when I tried to rewatch it on YouTube. And the franchise has endured with many more games and shows and what not. Now it wants to return to the big screen. However, it is stuck in development hell for a long time. In fact a new movie has been talked about since 2011. A script was written by Oren Uziel and Kevin Tancharoen was hired to direct the movie, but this version of the movie they had in mind never came to life.

In 2015 James Wan was hired to produce the movie. I love James Wan, but he is a very busy man. Currently, he is finishing up Aquaman and he is basically the head of the entire Conjuring Universe. I just don’t see when he will make this movie. Simon McQuoid is rumored to direct the movie. If you’ve never heard of him, it’s because this will be directorial debut, as he comes from the world of commercials. It’s does not sound very promising.

Considering the silly premise of the game and the original movie, I don’t predict a lot of success for this movie, unless the nostalgia effect will bring a lot of people to the cinema. I will definitely be one of those people. I am not sure how many current game players will actually be interested in watching a movie version of this game.
