   I've always loved apocalyptic stories and everything related to them, which is why I enjoyed Neon Genesis Evangelion so much and consider it an iconic tale that marked a turning point for the mecha genre in anime. It's not just about battles between giant robots and how to pilot them; it transcends into a profound psychological study of the characters, disguised as action. But this series? It's much more than it seems.

   Siempre me han gustado las historias apocalípticas y todo lo relacionado con ellas, es por eso que Neon Genesis Evangelion me gustó tanto y la considero como una historia emblemática que marca un antes y un después del género de Mechas en el mundo del animé, porque no se basa nada mas en las peleas entre robots gigantes y cómo pilotear una cosa de esas sino que trasciende en un estudio psicológico profundo de los personajes que se disfraza con acción. ¿Pero esta serie? es mucho más de lo que aparenta.

   This anime tells the story of Shinji Ikari, a 14-year-old boy who is suddenly recruited by his absent father to pilot a giant robot, in this case, the Evangelion (EVA). But this isn't just any robot. I imagine many will wonder: why would a man want his son to pilot something so dangerous? Well, because they aren't meant to be piloted by just anyone. These robots and their technology allow them to psychologically bond with the pilot, forming a kind of symbiosis while being driven.

   Este animé cuenta la historia de Shinji Ikari, un chico adolescente de apenas 14 años de edad que lo recluta un padre ausente para que pilotee de repente un robot gigante, en este caso es lo que llaman el Evangelion (EVA). Pero este no es un robot cualquiera, imagino que muchos se preguntarán: ¿por qué un señor querría que su hijo manejara algo tan peligroso? Pues porque no están hechos para ser manejados por cualquier persona.    At the beginning, the story shows this protagonist arriving at the military base with no idea what he'll be doing or how he'll be doing it. He's put on this machine and basically told, "Go see how you defend the city, since that's why we recruited you." This is how the story begins, with many missteps and insecurities, and the plot progresses, setting aside the action-packed battles between giant robots to focus on the issues these young protagonists face, such as their traumas, anxiety, depression, and many other emotions.

   Y al principio la trama te muestra a este protagonista llegando a la base militar sin conocimiento alguno sobre lo que hará ni cómo lo hará. A él lo embarcaron en esta máquina y le dijeron básicamente "ve a ver cómo defiendes la ciudad, ya que para esto te reclutamos". Así empieza esta historia, con muchos traspiés e inseguridades, y la trama avanza dejando de lado las batallas cargadas de acción entre robots gigantes para enfocarse en los problemas juveniles que presentan estos protagonistas jóvenes, como sus traumas, la ansiedad, la depresión y muchas emociones más.

   So the story doesn't focus on action and mecha battles, but rather delves deeper into drama, touching on existential themes like loneliness and individuality, as well as human fragility and the meaning of life. Furthermore, it incorporates a dark and philosophical religious element, referencing enigmatic Christian symbolism. Therefore, I consider Hideaki Anno's direction spectacular because it integrates human introspection with an artistic touch that has an experimental visual style to express the characters' mental state.

   Así que la historia no abarca acción y peleas de Mechas sino que se profundiza más en el drama, tocando temas existenciales como la soledad o la individualidad, así como la fragilidad humana y el significado de la vida. Por otro lado, le agregan un toque religioso desarrollado de manera oscura y filosófica, haciendo referencias al simbolismo cristiano y enigmático. Por lo tanto considero que la dirección elaborada por Hideaki Anno es espectacular porque integra la instrospección humana con un toque artístico que tiene un tono visual experimental para expresar el estado mental de los personajes.

   Furthermore, it also humanly developed its characters, with strengths and flaws that are present throughout the plot. Therefore, Evangelion is not just another mecha series, but a story about the will to persevere despite the constant fear. It's a story that inspires and motivates you to keep fighting against life's adversities. It's a tale of apprentice heroes who make mistakes trying to save the world and who are simultaneously affected mentally by the situations they experience, often losing control in their attempts to achieve the desired outcome—that is, success.

   Además también desarrolló a sus personajes de manera humana, con fortalezas y defectos que se hacen presentes durante toda la trama. Por lo tanto, Evangelion no es una serie más de Mechas sino una historia sobre la voluntad de seguir adelante con el miedo a flor de piel. Es una trama que te inspira y te motiva a continuar luchando ante las adversidades que te presente la vida. Es una historia de héroes aprendices que cometen errores intentando salvar al mundo y que a la par se ven afectados mentalmente por las situaciones vividas en las cuales muchas veces se pierde el control para que todo salga como se esperaba, es decir, con éxito.

   Even if you’ve never watched it, it’s almost impossible not to have heard about this title, as it influenced countless works that came after. For me, Evangelion is not just an anime, it’s a piece of art that moves you in unexpected ways, making you reflect on life, on people, and on how we deal with our own inner battles.

   Evangelion was originally released between October 1995 and March 1996 and has 26 episodes. It’s incredible to think that, even after nearly three decades, the series remains so relevant and widely discussed. The story also had its own manga, which began publication in 1994, and quickly gained films, spin-offs, and games that further expanded its universe. It was a true cultural phenomenon and continues to attract new fans to this day, something very few anime have managed to achieve for so long.

   The story is set in the year 2015, fifteen years after a catastrophic event known as the Second Impact, which devastated the planet and drastically reduced the human population. To face future threats, mysterious creatures called Angels, the UN established the organization NERV, located in Tokyo-3, a fortified city constantly under attack by these beings.

   NERV developed the Evangelions (EVAs), massive biomechanical units capable of fighting the Angels.

   But there’s a catch: Only teenagers with certain characteristics can pilot these machines.

   This is how we enter the journey of Shinji Ikari, a shy and insecure boy summoned by his own father, Gendo Ikari, to pilot the EVA Unit 01.

   The beginning already shows the intensity of the anime: Shinji initially refuses, driven by fear and resentment toward his father, who is cold and distant.

   But upon seeing Rei Ayanami, another pilot, gravely injured yet still being forced to fight, he ends up accepting the call. Right in the first battle, we realize the story goes far beyond epic fights against giant monsters. During the confrontation, Shinji loses consciousness, and the EVA takes control on its own, revealing that there is something deeper and more mysterious behind these machines.

   From there, we follow Shinji as he tries to adapt to his new life in Tokyo-3, under the care of Captain Misato Katsuragi. But with each new Angel attack, the burden of saving humanity grows heavier on his shoulders and those of the other teenage pilots.

   This is one of the things that struck me the most: Evangelion is not just about fighting external enemies but also about the internal conflicts of each character. The anime shows how these young people, who should be living the lightest phase of their lives, are thrown into a war to protect a world that often seems not to care about them. Meanwhile, the adults, who should be protecting them, manipulate and exploit their efforts for their own goals.

   It makes it clear just how cruel humanity can be, exploiting those who risk not only their physical lives but also their mental and emotional health to save everyone else.

   Evangelion is not limited to action or science fiction. It dives into profound themes such as loneliness, depression, trauma, and the meaning of existence. For me, this is one of the anime’s greatest strengths: it humanizes the heroes and shows that, in the end, we are all fighting our own demons. It’s impossible not to connect, on some level, with the dilemmas and vulnerabilities of the characters.

   I remember being impressed by how the series brings ethical and moral questions that remain relevant even today. It portrays a humanity divided, which should be united in the face of extinction, but instead keeps repeating mistakes, conflicts, and selfishness. Unfortunately, that reflects our real world far too well.

   A comparison I often make is with Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan). Both anime present a setting where humanity is on the brink of collapse and must make hard decisions to survive.

   And in both, we realize that despite the external threats, the greatest obstacles come from within: From pride, politics, and the inability to unite for a greater goal. This raw view of human nature is one of the reasons Evangelion is so impactful.

   

   Moreover, Evangelion was far ahead of its time. The series addressed topics considered taboo in the 90s, such as emotional fragility, psychological pressure on teenagers, and even religious and philosophical references. That’s why even those who aren’t big fans of action anime can find something valuable in it, because it’s a title that makes you think about life, about choices, and about the cost of progress.

   If you’re looking for an anime that goes beyond entertainment and brings reflection, drama, and emotional intensity, Evangelion is a must-watch.

   It’s not just about giant robots fighting monsters, it’s about the human beings behind those battles, with all their flaws, fears, and hopes.

   Ver Neon Genesis Evangelion por primera vez fue una de las experiencias más impactantes que he tenido con el anime. No era lo que esperaba para nada. Me metí a verla pensando que sería una serie de acción con robots gigantes y monstruos, algo del estilo de Power Rangers, pero con un toque más oscuro. Y sí, al principio lo fue, con peleas increíbles y un diseño de mechas espectacular. Pero a medida que avanzaban los episodios, la serie se fue volviendo más y más extraña, hasta el punto de que no estaba seguro de lo que estaba viendo. Aun así, esa sensación de confusión y desconcierto me enganchó por completo. Me intrigaba saber qué pasaría después.

   Watching Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time was one of the most shocking experiences I've had with anime. It wasn't what I expected at all. I went into watching it thinking it would be an action series with giant robots and monsters, something along the lines of Power Rangers, but with a darker twist. And yes, at first it was, with awesome fights and spectacular mecha design. But as the episodes progressed, the series got stranger and stranger, to the point where I wasn't sure what I was watching. Still, that sense of confusion and bewilderment had me completely hooked. I was intrigued to know what would happen next.

   Uno de los elementos que más me agradó fue la manera en que los personajes transmitían una autenticidad humana y fragilidad. Frecuentemente, en este tipo de series, los héroes son indestructibles, pero en Evangelion todos están dañados. Shinji es un personaje principal con el que se puede empatizar fácilmente, ya que su ansiedad y su temor son sumamente genuinos. Asuka y Rei, en cambio, son personajes intrincados y cautivadores, cada uno con sus propias luchas internas.    No obstante, hay aspectos que no lograron convencerme por completo. El tempo de la serie puede resultar algo pausado en ocasiones, con episodios que se enfocan excesivamente en la psicología de los personajes. Esto puede ser una ventaja para ciertos, pero para mí parecía que la historia principal se paralizaba. El desenlace original de la serie también me dejó una sensación ambivalente. Al inicio, no lo comprendí. Fue excesivamente abstracto y filosófico, y pensé que no ofrecía un final satisfactorio a la narrativa.    Many of us already know what this anime is about, however I'm going to give you a little summary. The anime has 26 episodes that were first broadcast between October 1995 and March 1996. In parallel, the manga was being edited since December 1994. Due to the fame obtained, various spring-offs were soon created, including film series and video games that complement or offer an alternative reality of the story.

Although Evangelion is a work of art, there are several factors that make this anime a true gem, because the creator of this put everything he had into the project and it paid off by becoming a mere phenomenon that continues to give something to talk about today; For me this work is like Shingeki no kyojin, both show many points of view on the conflicts of humanity and the attempted conflicts they experience when decisions have to be made that have to do with the future of a country, the entire world and how it relates to ethics and morals, while Evangelion shows a world fighting for survival, which should be unique and teenagers who have not lived even a quarter of their lives, bear the crushing weight of defending humanity, while adults manipulate and use them to fulfill their own objectives, thus demonstrating how cruel humanity can be to those who not only give their body but their mental health and life to save a humanity, which assumed in so much war, selfishness and fraction, deserves its mere extinction, because neither in Shingeki no kyojin nor in this anime, humanity is completely united and even more, history repeats itself, only the protagonists change, but the result is the same.

   Después de estos sucesos, cada piloto tuvo que entrenar duramente, para prepararse para lo que seguía ( No daré más spoilers 🤭🤭). Si bien Evangelion es una obra de arte, existen varios factores que hacen de este anime una verdadera joyita, pues el creador de esta puso todo lo que tenía plasmado en el proyecto y bien que dió sus frutos al convertirse en mero fenómeno que hoy en día sigue dando de que hablar; Para mí está obra es como Shingeki no kyojin, ambas demuestran muchos puntos de vista sobre los conflictos de la humanidad y los conflictos intentos que experimentan cuando hay que tomar decisiones que tienen que ver el futuro de un país, del mundo entero y como se relaciona con la ética y la moral, mientas Evangelion muestra un mundo que pelea por la supervivencia, el cual debería estar único y adolescentes que no han vivido ni la cuarta parte de su vida, cargan con el aplastante peso de defender a la humanidad, mientas adultos los manipulan y utilizan para cumplir sus propios objetivos, demostrando así, lo cruel que puede ser la humanidad con aquellos que no solo entregan su cuerpo sino su salud mental y vida para salvar a una humanidad,que asumida en tanta guerra, egoísmo y fracción, merece su mera extinción, pues ni en Shingeki no kyojin ni en este anime, la humanidad se une por completo y más aún, la historia vuelve a repetirse, solo que cambia los protagonistas, pero el resultado es el mismo.

   A quality of power that Misato possesses is that she doesn't hesitate to do things, this is something that I consider predominantly positive in her because she is a type of character that doesn't think so much to execute solutions, I honestly envy her for this but it is a healthy envy because I think a lot to do things which is good because it increases the probability that things are done well but it also reveals the extreme insecurity of the person and the fear of failure by making a mistake in some procedure, most likely some of those who read me understand that fear of making a mistake to which I am referring.

   Hola Comunidad de TheAnimeRealm, en esta Reseña les quiero hablar de Misato Katsuragi la cual es una personaje del anime Evangelion que llama bastante visualmente la atención al ser ese tipo de mujer muy atractiva que sin dudarlo te invitaría una cerveza en el bar para conquistarte jaja, con esto hago mención a su personalidad exótica llena de vida y locuras cargadas de pensamientos internos lo cual esto ultimo es muy característico del anime en el que hace vida.

   Una cualidad de poder que posee Misato es que no duda en hacer las cosas, esto es algo que considero predominantemente positivo en ella porque es un tipo de personaje que no piensa tanto para ejecutar soluciones, esto honestamente lo envidio de ella pero es una envidia sana porque yo pienso mucho para hacer las cosas lo cual tiene como bueno que aumenta la probabilidad de que las cosas se hagan bien pero también delata la extrema inseguridad de la persona y el temor al fracaso por errar en algún procedimiento, muy probablemente algunos de los que me leen comprenden ese temor a cometer un error a lo cual me estoy refiriendo.

   Por eso justo en esa figura notaran que ella lo carga puesto en el cuello siendo ella la única personaje con esta característica simbólica religiosa.

   Destaco que aquí esta un claro ejemplo de que han existido mujeres de poder en este caso aplicado al mundo del anime que impulsan la narrativa a mucho mas a la vez que se muestran sexys, sensuales sin temor a mostrar la sensualidad de sus atributos femeninos como sus preciosas piernas y cintura delgada cuya pose y vestuario la hacen resaltar mucho mas, es tanto que hasta opaca la visual del ángel en la imagen.

   Es notable lo mucho que me gustan los atributos femeninos de Misato, tanto que no me canso de resaltarlos jaja pero ella tiene mucho valor agregado para el espectador que la conoce por el conflicto de pensamientos internos asociado a los traumas del personaje causado por ese famoso impacto que la deja huerfana.

   Ya para ir finalizando esta reseña, les comparto un gif de Tenor donde sale ella conquistando al fandom con su clásica cerveza en mano, lo que quiero resaltar de esto es que es un personaje integro que no solo da acción como Teniente, ella no solo es psicología con sus traumas de niñez si no que también es muy divertida junto al pinguino raro con el que vive, este personaje de verdad lo tiene todo jaja.

   La rige esa libertad indomable de sus pensamientos que se refleja totalmente en su forma de ser junto a una estética de las mas sexys que he visto en el mundo del anime, ojala ella fuese de verdad para que me invite una cerveza y me lleve a su apartamento jaja mientras nos preparamos para masacrar Ángeles.

Love this classical retro anime tunes from the 90s, can't get that stuff anymore today. I know there is remake after remake, but nothing is as good as the original. :) except full metal alchemist brotherhood. that was an excemption.

    Este anime de mechas no es el típico de su género ya que no solo nos presenta un universo post apocalíptico en el que la mitad de la población humana ha sido reducida por dos incidentes conocidos como Impactos, los cuales fueron realizados por unos extraños seres conocidos como Angeles, para poder enfrentar a estos seres la humanidad creo unos robots gigantes conocidos como Evas, los cuales solo pueden ser piloteados por adolescentes, nuestro protagonista a Shinji Ikari fue elegido para pilotear el Eva 01, ya que su padre es el presidente de NERV (organización encargada de construir y manejas los EVAS de Japón), Shinji será elegido para evitar el ataque del Tercer Angel y a pesar de primero negarse a pilotear este robot, decide hacerlo, el anime nos llevará por la trayectoria de Shinji y el secreto que esconden los EVAS, la organización NERV y su relación con las otras 2 pilotos de los EVAS, y que uno de los puntos más fuertes de este anime no es solo sus geniales batallas sino el factor psicológico de nuestro protagonista, de sus elecciones y de sus traumas.

    Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the greatest works of art ever created. It's not just merely a damn good anime. If you like action, it's got some of the best action ever. If you like heavy psychological themes, it's got it. If you want teenage problems, it's got it. A convoluted story that needs real detective work to figure out; well you kind of have to figure out half of the story based on clues and hints. It's philosophically deep and inventive in every step of the way with some great soundtrack. Just getting to watch this masterpiece is easily worth two subscriptions.     Die Mangaumsetzung von Neon Genesis Evangelion wurde von Yoshiyuki Sadamoto gezeichnet. Der Manga startete 2000 im Carlsenverlag. Der originale Manga erschien zwischen 1995 und 2014. Insgesamt wurden 14 Bände veröffentlicht und ist abgeschlossen. Da der Manga relativ früh gestartet ist, wurde er in deutscher Leserichtung herausgebracht und nicht in japanischer Originalleserichtung.

    Handlung

    Der junge Shinji wird zu seinem Vater gerufen, den er jahrelang nicht gesehen hat. Die Erde war 15 Jahre zuvor durch den Second Impackt verwüstet worden. Shinji wird von einer Mitarbeiterin der Organisation "NERV", für die sein Vater tätig ist, abgeholt. NERV schickt 14-jährige Kinder als Piloten in humanoiden Kampfeinheiten, EVAs genannt, gegen die gegnerischen Engel in den Kampf. Was Shinji nicht weiß: Er soll ebenfalls als Pilot in den Evangelion einsteigen.

    
    

    Zeichenstil

    Der Zeichenstil ist sauber. Die Charaktere und ihre Emotionen kommen hervorragend rüber. Die Kämpfe sind sehr dynamisch gestaltet und der Manga ist sehr spannend gestaltet.

    Fazit

    Das Interessante ist, dass nicht nur die Kämpfe bei Neon Genesis Evangelion eine Rolle spielen, sondern auch die psychologischen Profile und Emotionen der Piloten. Dazu kommen Intrigen und Verknüpfungen, welche große Auswirkungen auf die Ereignisse haben. Wie auch im Anime werden aber nicht alle Fragezeichen beantwortet, was zu Neon Genesis Evangelion passt. Neon Genesis Evangelion ist eine Mangareihe, die ich nur wärmstens empfehlen kann. Es lohnt sich definitiv sie zu lesen. Die Reihe ist auch als E-Book erhältlich.

    Practicando todo lo que puedo para mejorar, hoy les presento un dibujo de uno de los personajes principales del anime Neon Genesis Evangelion es Asuka Langley piloto del EVA 02. Materiales: lápices de dibujo 3H, HB, 3B, 6B, pagina blanca tipo carta, borrador, sacapuntas. Tiempo: 5 horas (sin cafe) hehe XD

    

    La imagen que veraz es solo un caparazón vació pero ira tomando vida poco a poco y te comento como, con el lápiz de dibujo HB y mi imagen guía, realice la forma completa del dibujo, inicio así porque lo veo más fácil para luego ir dividiendo lo que va dentro, como nada es perfecto si le di unos cuantos borrones más que todo en las manos porque se me dificulta esa parte.

    

    Una vez terminado me dispuse a realizar más detalles al traje de Azuka como dije es una piloto y usa un traje especial muy ajustado al cuerpo por lo tanto, no solo es hacer contorno ya con ayuda del lápiz HB dibuje estos detalles y el rostros para luego con el 3B repasarlo y resaltaran mucho más esas partes oscuras.

    

    Una vez terminado la parte anterior con los lápices 3B y 6B me dedique a difuminar las zonas donde se mostraba más sombra pero yo para no perderme ya las tenía marcadas y solo rellene esas partes poco a poco para no tener fallas indeseables. Cuidando el rostro que lo tenía casi terminado ya solo con el 6B lo intensifique porque tiene solo un ojo abierto entonces lo quise poner así de negro para que resaltara la boca esta con una leve sonrisa así que significo problema, una de las partes más fáciles de hacer la verdad, y la nariz casi que se me olvida porque era pequeña como un signo de "mayor que" .

    

    Como se observa en esta imagen se ve en el cuerpo unas sombras pero mucho más grises, esas las realice con la ayuda del lápiz 3H con mucho cuidado para no dañar el dibujo con un rayón porque estos lápices son de punta bastante dura y me di cuenta que el borrador no las borra en su totalidad. Cambie de lápiz al 3B y me dedique con el cabello uno de los atractivos principales de este dibujo junto con la postura, en el cabello observe que tenía muy poca iluminación entonces reforcé eso con más sombras y contraste primero 3B y luego 3H con más intensidad para dar con un gris bien oscuro.

    

    Este fue el resultado final espero les allá gustado mi dibujo de Asuka Langley de Neon Genesis Evangelion y si es así no olvides votar y seguirme para más contenido similar.

    1. Counter-escapism message When NGE originally broadcasted, Japan was going through an economic depression, like the one we are going through now but not on a global level. Many young people were poor and unemployed, unable to begin a career and be useful members of society. There were lots of NEETs and hikikomoris wasting their lives in some basement, looking for escapism through anime. Unlike most modern anime that are about pandering otakus, NGE had the guts to be about counter-escapism, as presented by Shinji Ikari constantly trying not to run away from his problems. Which mean, a show from 20 years ago is more honest and motivational, than most of anything that is coming out today. That’s why retro wins and modern sucks.

    2. Beacon of its time The post apocalyptic setting of the series was also heavy on religious iconography and was using terminology from psychology, as a way to mirror the unrest Japan was going through at the time, with the millennium about to change, and cults talking about the end of the world being close. The subway gas attacks further fueled the paranoia of the times, which made the in-series psychologically unstable characters far more relatable with what was going on in Japan. Unlike other series coming out at the time, NGE did not water down its content as means to calm down the depressed audience. It remained true to what it was about, which is something I really appreciate because it reminds me of someone (me) who is not holding back from stating the truth, regardless of not pleasing the masses.

    3. Vision of the director Which is also why I like Hideaki Anno and old Gainax so much. Despite going through depression, he inserted his personal thoughts and ways to cope with it instead of going for pandering. The result of his attempts is questionable, as many can argue that it had the opposite effect on anime fans, who are still making waifu wars and draw hentai doujins to this day. The fact still remains that NGE is a personal work. Someone made it for himself, a purely artistic piece of fiction imbued with his thoughts and feelings, instead of a generic lifeless product aimed at pandering the masses. The fact that it eventually caters anime fans and turned into a 20 year old milk cow is something that came after the show, mostly through marketing and the fandom. By itself, the show is free of that.

    4. More than fetishes Despite sexualizing the females and popularizing the archetypes of tsunderes and coolderes, none of them were defined simply by fetishes. They had a personality and a backdrop, and this includes minor characters who were also contributing to the narrative somehow, despite not being sexualized. This is something which very few of its copycats bothered to have. Shinji Ikari is still being mocked today as the stereotypical beta male crybaby, yet how many of his counterparts in later shows are not simply spoiled brats with first world problems? Close to nobody. Shinji was excused to be acting the way he did based on the post apocalyptic setting he grew up in. The others have no excuse.

    5. Reviving the industry Even its nastiest parts can be seen as positive in the longrun. The waifu wars and doujins it begat helped the industry to get some much needed cash after the crisis was over. Combined with how it revolutionized marketing and promotion of anime through merchandising and the untapped after midnight timeslot, is enough to give it a pass since without those tactics the anime industry would be very different today. It wasn’t just influential as a series; it shaped the medium altogether.

    6. Deconstruction of the genre Something that didn’t age that well is the whole deconstruction aspect of it. Yes, it is one for seemingly being about giant robots and then becoming something completely different. The blurring of what is right or wrong was great, as its characters were not pure archetypes of good or evil. The social commentary and psychological examination of its cast were fantastic, the religious icons and naming on the other hand were not. Although they were offering food for thought to anyone looking for what everything symbolized or was named after, eventually it was just overthinking. The theories the fans were making up had nothing to do with the show besides adding to the confusion of what it’s actually about and blurring the initial message of the creator. The names and religious iconography were just superficial aesthetics for flavouring the messed up mentality of the cast; they were never meant to be taken literally. Yet the decorations ended up attracting more interest than the actual essence of the show.

    7. Great directing But it’s not like the meta is all that is good about it; the directing was also brilliant for its time. From cool robot battles, to camera angles, to timing of scenes, flashes of text, fish eye lens, strange use of filters, live action footage, characters standing still without talking for a minute, the storyboard is just fantastic when examined. And sure, the quality had its ups and downs, and they ran out of money to the point the final two episodes were badly drawn caricatures and random images flashing. Still, a typical director would have made a complete mess or a forgettable conclusion, yet Hideaki was talented enough and found a way to make the best he could out of all the limitations.

    8. Battle Choreography I might as well mention how there was close to no stock footage used despite these limitations. Every battle with an invading monster was unique and was using a completely different strategy. This is something unheard of even today, when every show uses the same old finishing move, or has the exact same transformation sequence.

    9. Flaws Just like all series, there are still problems ranging from erratic pacing, the middle episodes not having much of a plot, lack of animation, many themes and characters not being explored much. It still manages to be a highly memorable series with the pluses overshadowing the minuses. As the recent Rebuild movies have proven, it’s not like those issues could be easily fixed without creating other problems and resulting to a completely different experience.

    10. Rebuild movies As much as it saddens me, after Hideaki left Gainax, Neon Genesis was never the same anymore. It kept being changed and reshaped into another title aimed at pandering the otakus with worthless extra, such as more waifubaits that serve nothing to the story, and more pirate eye patches for the sake of selling more cosplay accessories. All these are blatant fan service which contradicts the initial message of the show and feel far more like a marketing ploy. Studio Khara is also flagging anyone who is using footage or music of the series, even if it was made many years ago for the sake of promoting the same story they are rehashing right now.

    11. Final thoughts Despite all these issues, the original series remains one of the most groundbreaking animated titles of all times, and easily deserves a spot in the top ten of anyone’s list. Hideaki didn’t sell out completely if he can still make something like Shin Godzilla, or still throws in a personal commentary when collaborating with Miyazaki for voice acting in The Wind Rises. It’s hard to be yourself in modern times without apologizing to SJW for having an opinion. He’s resisting as much as he can, and regardless of if he one day gives up, nothing will take away all the amazing anti-escapism shows he produced over the decades, with Neon Genesis being the most influential amongst them.

22. ›Neon Genesis Evangelion Desde Mi Interpretación Y Lo Que Significó Para Mí. (experiencia personal)@risckylu3172d

    Neo Genesis Evangelion es un anime de culto creado por la casa de estudio Gainax y dirigida por Hideaki Anno. Esto es todo lo que diré con respecto al anime en general ya que no pretendo abordar la historia de cómo fue creado, ni pretendo analizar su trama o hacer una “review” del anime como tal. Creo que hay personas dentro de esta comunidad y fuera de ella que podrían hacer eso mucho mejor, de manera más estructurada y limpia, simplemente quisiera compartirles mi interpretación personal, lo que esta obra de arte dejó en mí, lo que significa y sigue significando. Espero les guste y si no has visto esta serie ojala este post haga que te motives a verla, trataré en mayor medida de no hacer ningún spoiler.

    Descubrí esta serie en mi niñez por allá en el 2003 o 2004 sin mal no recuerdo, como a los 8-9 años gracias a Locomotion, canal que veía cuando iba a casa de mis primos y que se suponían según mis tías yo con esa edad no debía ver. Dicho canal transmitía series para jóvenes adultos entre ellas Evangelion, mis primos eran mayores y cuando ellos se sentaban a ver televisión yo me sentaba a ver lo que ellos veían. Así pues fue que empezó mi viaje por esta serie de la cual me llamaba la atención una cosa por sobre todas… Robots gigantes que luchaban contra monstruos horribles y gigantes y que se daban espectaculares golpizas entre ellos, eso sencillamente me fascinaba, aparte estaba animada ¿No les pasa que cuando son niños todo lo que este animado les llama la atención? No me miré toda la serie en ese momento, la verdad tampoco le prestaba mucha atención más allá de las grandes batallas que libraban los EVA (nombre que se les dio a los robots gigantes) y los ángeles (nombre en la serie para referirse a los monstruos gigantes) pero desde ese momento quedo plasmada en mi mente para nunca ser olvidada.

    Unos años después cuando tenía yo 14-15 años, volví a ver Neo Genesis Evangelion, esta vez por un canal llamado Animax y no solo me encantó también cambió mi percepción del anime para siempre, esa época fue especialmente difícil para mí por múltiples razones, esta serie era como uno de esos pocos refugios de los cuales yo podía escapar por momentos de mis tormentos, por los cuales creo yo que muchos pasamos a esa edad, a los 14 años no somos niños pero tampoco adultos y pasamos nuestros días intentando moldearnos a nosotros mismos, buscando donde encajar, intentando dar con una identidad propia en un entorno viciado por la competencia de ver quien está más a la moda, quien es más popular y patear a quien muestre signos de diferencia. Quizás esa era la razón por la cual en cierta forma me sentía identificado con la serie, los protagonistas tenían mi edad, sentía que Shinji (protagonista principal) en parte era como yo, o más bien yo era como él, un joven muy callado, de ánimos caídos, personalidad opaca y depresivo, aparentemente incapaz de afrontar sus problemas, me reconfortaba ver como ese personaje se enfrentaba a situaciones extraordinarias y a ordinarias también, creo que eso me ayudó bastante, proporcionándome cierto animo y algunos recursos que necesitaba para que mi adolescencia fuera más llevadera. Otros elementos que se quedaron conmigo fueron la música y la estética de los personajes, los EVA y la ambientación, la animación que aun a esos días me seguía asombrando de gran manera, francamente la historia la entendía poco, habían tramos sobre todo en el final de la serie que fueron poco claros y muy ambiguos en mi opinión y que no comprendí del todo en ese momento, pero eso no me impidió disfrutar de ella. Luego de terminar de verla, en esos días Neon Genesis Evangelion paso a formar una grata parte de la caja negra de mis recuerdos, no sin que antes dejara una sabor agridulce en ellos, como una suerte de vacío espiritual.

    Hace ya unos pocos meses volví a verla toda de nuevo, había terminado de ver un anime que una amiga me recomendó y pensé en volver a retomar del cajón de mis recuerdos a Evangelion, lo primero que pensé mientras lo veía fue “Esto es una maldita y genial obra de arte”. Envangelion tiene un trasfondo psicológico a mi parecer muy inusual, a pesar de que se muestra desde un principio como un anime "shonen" cualquiera, tiene robots gigantes, un atormentado protagonista emo-depresivo, una chica muy misteriosa pero a la vez bonita, personajes secundarios muy carismáticos, una coprotagonista linda y a la vez hostil de mal temperamento, chicas hermosas, monstruos gigantes ¿Ya mencione que hay robots gigantes? Y por supuesto muchísima acción, pero eso no es más que el principio. Noté al verla de nuevo algo que no había notado antes, la serie en mi opinión sufrió cambios notables en su narrativa llegando a su final, ya no daba tanto la impresión de ser un simple y genial anime de mechas(sobre robots), sentí que el anime hacía bastante hincapié en desentrañar psicológicamente a sus personajes, en mostrar distintos niveles de interpretación y muchas formas de ver algunos aspectos de la vida a través de sus ojos, el aspecto que más llamó mi atención fue uno que atormentó por mucho tiempo mi adolescencia, la depresión… Más allá de toda la acción y las batallas entre robots y monstruos enormes Neo Genesis Evangelion habla bastante de la depresión, en mi opinión.

    En el centro de la obra siento que se forma una fuerte y densa neblina gris de depresión, de tristeza y melancolía ¿Quizás era por eso que me gustaba tanto en mi adolescencia? ¿Sería esa la razón principal de que me sintiera tan identificado? ¿Era acaso que sentía un reflejo de mi depresión plasmado en la serie? Cuando era joven no tenía muy claro que era realmente la depresión, pensaba que era esa tristeza constante que se apodera de nosotros un tiempo por algún extraño motivo, pero no, la depresión es más bien como un profundo y oscuro abismo, una serie de torturas psicológicas que pasan ante ti de maneras repetidas como si fueran una serie de diapositivas en un monitor que vuelven ante ti sin descanso, pueden variar entre tristeza, desprecio por ti mismo o indiferencia por todo tu alrededor, es como estar encerrado en una cabina dentro de mí, tratando de controlar un cuerpo que no eres capaz de dominar… Es difícil salir de ahí porque cada paso que tropiezas te devuelve de nuevo al fondo, porque eso es la depresión, un abismo. Creo que por eso era la razón por la cual pude entender mejor a los personajes al ver la serie de nuevo, siento que esta plasmada esa densa neblina que engulle a sus protagonistas, sobre todo en el ocaso de la serie y en la película final, creo que Hideaki Anno retrata eso muy bien en su serie, una visión de su propia depresión, de una lucha contra la soledad y el autoexilio.

    Evangelion tiene cualquier cantidad de símbolos religiosos y referencias tales, extensos combates contra deidades del apocalipsis, de ideales sobre salvar el planeta y la humanidad pero no se trata de eso, creo que Evangelion es una serie que trata sobre sus personajes y sus historias, eso es lo que a mí me cautivó, las historias que hay detrás de sus personajes y su romance toxico con la tristeza, la indiferencia y la soledad, una lucha por no querer ser herido, estar lejos de todo y querer no sentir el frió de la soledad al mismo tiempo. No me gustaría hacer spoilers, quizás en otro post tal vez, solo quería expresar lo que esta serie dejó en mí y el como yo la interpreté.

    Esto es lo que significa para mi Neo Genesis Evangelion, un espectacular anime de "mechas" con muchísimas cubiertas de interpretación y significado que relata las vivencias de sus personajes y explora los pasajes que atormentan sus mentes y sus corazones, que dibuja ese abismo oscuro y profundo en el que solemos caer, que enmarca esa eterna escalada hacia la luz y la aceptación de uno mismo como identidad y las constantes recaídas al fondo, que nos empeña a mirarnos dentro de nosotros mismos, una manera de ver esa densa neblina que nos hace desear desaparecer, el deseo de escapar hacia nuestro autocompadecimiento, que es la peor sensación de todas. Mi concepción de esta serie no tiene que ser absoluta, Evangelion como toda buena obra de arte se puede interpretar y ver de muchas formas, pero creo que la exploración de este sentimiento es una de los puntos fuertes de toda la serie.

    La depresión es una condición mental seria, te reduce a la sombra petrificada de lo que eres en realidad, te incapacita como individuo, se mete dentro de ti y te devora por dentro aun cuando la vida pueda parecer color de rosa la niebla gris está ahí presente y cuando nos rodea todo se vuelve borroso, moribundo y marchito, si están pasando por algo similar pide ayuda, habla con las personas que te aprecian y que están tratando de ayudarte. Para mi Neo Genesis Evangelio fue la luz en medio de esa neblina, te invito a que veas esta estupenda obra de arte ¿Ya te mencioné que hay robots gigantes?
