  1. The Dressmaker, a acidic Australian satire@ismaca906d

The Dressmaker is an acidic Australian satire directed by the experienced Jocelyn Moorhouse that demonstrates the versatility of the vengeance thriller genre.

Starring a hulking Kate Winslet, she plays a female dressmaker who returns to her hometown in search of personal redemption, but what she finds is a hypocritical community hiding dark secrets from the past.

With her sewing as catharsis, the protagonist begins to stitch together the loose threads of her town's history and exact revenge on those who hurt her.

With black and acid humour, Moorhouse deconstructs the facades of the public eye and double standards.

Costume design is another key player, adding symbolic value to the narrative. And Winslet shines with her charismatic presence delivering one of the best performances of the year.

Visually captivating and with a firm pulse in its discourse, The Dressmaker is a gem that demonstrates why auteur cinema continues to stand out among hackneyed formulas. A delight for lovers of unpredictable drama.
