With a dream cast led by the always fascinating Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and a once again challenging Jared Leto, they follow a sheriff's obsession with catching a serial killer.

The master of psychological suspense John Lee Hancock Han, renowned for bringing out the best in his stars, brings out the best in each of them in a nuanced thriller.

Every detail onstage carries symbolic weight, revealing the painful cracks in the psyches of the protagonists.

With its surgical direction that plays with timing and leaves much to suggestion, it manages to make the skin crawl.

And the claustrophobic photography of the nocturnal settings adds to the harrowing aesthetic.

The Little Things proves that you don't need big effects to be captivated, its great triumph is to leave the audience with so many questions at the end.

A cerebral piece of cinema of the highest order.

  2. The Little Things – Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers1778d

What a disappointing movie. Jared Leto was nominated for Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Golden Globes for this movie and for what? It was not an awards worthy performance. I don't know why Denzel Washington was upset that this movie came out for free on HBO MAX and at the cinema. No one should pay to see this movie because nothing happens in this movie. It's just boring.

The cast is superb. Denzel Washington plays Joe "Deke" Deacon, a County Deputy Sheriff. Rami Malek plays LASD Detective Jim Baxter. Jared Leto plays himself, I mean he plays Albert Sparma who is suspected to be a serial killer, but he is just mostly Jared Leto level of weird. Washington and Malek are great actors and it shows here as well, but they don't have much to do in this movie. I mean, I can't believe that they accepted parts in this movie.

The plot of the movie is simple. Baxter is a detective in LA. And the city is plagued by a serial killer. Deacon notices the case and goes to L.A. to help. Sparma catches both of their eyes as a prime suspect, but they can't find any evidence so they can't charge him with anything. But still, he taunts the police and they think it is evidence of his guilt. As they feel that they can't do anything legal to stop him things get out of hand in the most predictable way possible. I mean, the trailer is a lot more interesting than this movie. I love crime movies and shows, but in the end I didn't even care who the killer was.

I think the movie really wanted to be clever. The way it arranged the evidence. The way it tried to be ambiguous. But, in the end it was just really not interesting. There are interesting ways to be ambiguous and this movie is definitely doesn't qualify. It had a promising start but the ending was boring and unsatisfying. There are so many good crime movies and TV shows out there that you can watch instead. Don't waste your time with this one.

I didn't know much about this film prior to its release but after reading its main characters were played by Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto, I knew I had to watch it. The film begins with a man chasing a girl in the middle of the night on a lonely highway. We never see the man's face but it is clear he is completely decided on killing this girl.

The identity of this man is unknown and the entire film is about discovering who this man really is. Detectives try to hunt him down but the guy is very smart and finding proof of the crimes will be an extremely hard job, maybe even an impossible one.

Denzel Washington plays a deputy sheriff, he was a detective in the past but a traumatic experience would change his career. Rami Malek, on the other hand, plays the lead detective in the crimes they are currently trying to solve. And finally, Jared Leto plays the bohemian-like weird guy who is believed to be the serial killer.

Of the 3, my favorite performance was from Jared Leto. This guy appears to reinvent himself every time he plays a new character. In this case, he is a strange man that could perfectly be a killer but might also be just an innocent creepy guy. He displays a sort of inner peace as if he is always in tune with everything that happens around him.

Denzel Washington was good as always. He is pretty much the same guy in every movie but since he does a good job with his roles, everything is cool. He doesn't reinvent himself like Jared Leto does but maybe he doesn't need it.

Rami Malek had the weakest performance of the 3 in my opinion. I felt as if he was still confused after finishing up with his Mr. Robot role some time ago. He tried to portray emotional states such as frustration or deep stress but it looks spontaneous. In one scene where he shuts a door, his movement even seemed a bit robotic.

The film doesn't provide final answers regarding its main mystery. It will leave things up to the interpretation of the viewer, which might not be appreciated by people who just want to know who the killer is. I mention this to encourage you to pay close attention in case you decide to watch the film.

Taking everything into consideration, I believe this is a good film to watch. It is not as good as Se7en or Zodiac but it is still worth it. If you like the genre, I would definitely watch it, and the same goes for fans of Denzel Washington or Jared Leto.

    The best

    • Great performances from Denzel Washington and Jared Leto.
    • It was an entertaining movie.

    The worst

    • Rami Malek's seemed like a weird detective. His performance wasn't really convincing in some scenes.
    • Several decisions from supposedly rational detectives made no sense.
    • I felt like the film had more potential than what it showed on the screen.

  4. The Little Things Movie Review - Good or Bad ?@reviewzzz1975d

Hello Everybody, We came back to you with a new review, my dear, but this time we have a movie full of excitement and enthusiasm, not only in the events of the film, but outside the film, there is a great conflict between viewers about this movie, some say it is very bad and others say that the film is good.

The movie, full of stars, did not impress many. The movie, which has one of the best stories that attracts viewers, did not impress many.

but why ? This is what we will know in the special review of the film without spoiling events. You may have another opinion ...

    image.png

    The story

Today's film is one of the mystery and thriller films, yes, the quality preferred by many of the audience, as there is a murderer and a mysterious crime, and the police begin to search.

The story of the film begins with the corpses of their encounter and a very great mystery, which is what attracted me to the film at the beginning, although I did not want to end it at this time, but I started to follow an episode.

Events begin to become clear little by little. Yes, there is a serial killer. Bodies around the city and it turns out later that there is a serial killer lurking around. The events of the movie take place in the nineties, the police try to discover the perpetrator and catch him, and events begin to revolve around this point ....

    image.png

    Impression

The movie is of the type of mystery and thriller films, which seem wonderful to the fans, and someone may hear the story and do what is bad in that story is wonderful and looks interesting also, but you will be more surprised if you know that this movie has Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and his planet of stars.

So, this movie brought together great actors and a great idea for the story, but the defect appears in the technical performance, which was very bad this time from the actors.

Here we miss the spirit, as if the actors were only reading the script, we are not used to that from big stars like these.

Also, the events of the film, which took place in a period of time, namely the nineties, were not the required scene and photography that suggests to us that we are in that period and although the film has been watched by millions around the world, it is bad to come out with bad reviews and bad reviews like this.

    image.png

    Defects

As we mentioned, some of the flaws in the film lie in the bad artistic performance of the actors, as if they were acting without spirit or enthusiasm.

Another thing, which is the detail in the events of the film, you will spend an entire hour watching dead bodies and mysterious matters for which you do not know a reason, then after that comes the explanation of the events in the next half hour, but you will completely lose your passion.

Filming in the movie did not fit the period of time in which the events are told, but the film was close to being at the present time, so I am surprised why they made it at this time.

It is sad to wait for all these events, and in the end, nothing.

    image.png

    A glimmer of light

But the movie is not entirely bad. There is a bright spot in the movie, which is the soundtrack, which is the most thing you will enjoy throughout the film.

Despite all of the above, they manage to use the soundtrack very well.

    In the end

You may be surprised by my words, but this is not my opinion alone, but many of my fellow reviewers who said the same thing, so I hope if you watched the movie, you would tell us your opinion about it in the comments.

Thank you. See you in a new review
