Viendo que había salido la segunda parte de este película, quiso primero ver nuevamente la primera parte, pues no tenía tan fresca la trama de la misma, así como escenas impactantes que tiene. La verdad me gustó bastante en términos generales, las actuaciones y los escenarios están muy bien logrados, pero al igual que ya me paso la primera vez que la vi, siento que el final fue muy flojo y poco impactante, para lo que fue la hora y media previa de acontecimientos.

Por medio del protagonista vemos un cara de las personajes que pudiesen entrar en el hoyo, pues el solo lo hizo buscando mejorar su vida, teniendo en mente un libro como Don Quijote de La Mancha, para distraerse en su estancia. Luego vemos otros personajes como Trimagasi, un anciano que cometió un asesinato, y que buscará por cualquier medio sobrevivir, así sea degollar a su compañero de cuarto, Imoguiri, una trabajadora de esa compañía, que ya tenía un diagnóstico terminal, Baharat, su último compañero religioso, o Miharu, la mujer con aparentes problemas psicológicos que van en busca de su hija, personalidades que tal vez nos consigamos en el día a día.

La ambientación de la película es excelente, muy sencilla pero ideal para la trama que quiere explorar, el detalle de la comida es increíble, aunque se vuelve muy desagradable a medida que la plataforma va descendiendo, pues pienso que más allá de las sobras de la comida, también hay secreciones humanas. El film es una producción española. Me gustó la actuación de cada uno de los personajes. Detesté el hecho del mesías en el Hoyo. Un psicópata asesino que jugaba a diestra y siniestra con el poder para matar como quisiera bajo la argumentación de que todos tenían que tener algo que comer.

Tú pensarás que se debe repartir la comida entre todos. Yo apoyo que todos deben comer, pero en el Hoyo es algo imposible. La trama demuestra que se cortaba la cadena de distribución o reparto en algún piso. Esto se puede comparar con la realidad, cuando intentamos repartir proporcionalmente la riqueza. I liked Milena Smit's performance, she is an excellent actress. The most wonderful part of her performance is when she goes into a kind of hunger shock. She brought a lot to the production with her performance. Me gustó la actuación de Milena Smit es una excelente actriz. La parte más maravillosa de su actuación es cuando queda en una especie de estado de shock por hambre. Supo aportar mucho a la producción con su actuación. El papel de ésta actriz fue el de Perempuán que es la responsable de demoler la arquitectura revolucionaria que existe en el Hoyo.

Para mí es una producción bien producida; pero con un mensaje dañino. El Hoyo demuestra que es una distopía caótica y al mismo tiempo que describe el horror humano.

I guess because it's a sequel, it's a movie that touches on similar themes and doesn't add anything new to the story. I personally expected that it would touch on similar topics, but I had a preconceived notion that it would add new elements to the story and surpass the impact of the first movie.

My expectations were not met, and my pre-watch query of “I wonder when the next movie will be released” was replaced with “there was no need for a sequel” after watching the movie.

As a viewer and as someone who suffers from similar issues, I would like to see a more successful story that tells the social division and categorization in a very simple way like every layer on the platform, but it seems that this will only be wishful thinking.

If only we weren't so judgmental about one another, if only we didn't have a social hierarchy, if only we ate what we needed, if only we could put our differences aside, the world—in all its infinite complexities—might as well be a much better place, and our human condition wouldn't be so difficult. The Platform is a Spanish film that has a gripping commentary on the truth about the world we live in now.

The Platform reminds me of a time in 2020, during the pandemic, when we saw an outburst of emotions throughout the period on this side of the world. Things were difficult as they were already, but they were aggravated to become even worse when crucial situations regarding the well-being of our people kept arising. The most prominent, for me, is the issue concerning the abuse of power by government bodies on youth, depriving us of our rights in public for exploitation.

Abuse of power, among every other societal flaw we have these days, never leads to anything "progressive." And what we have is the chain reaction of a single insensitive decision by one person (or group of people). This is only a figment of the human condition.

𝔸𝔹𝕆𝕌𝕋 𝕋ℍ𝔼 𝕄𝕆𝕍𝕀𝔼

Goreng wakes up in a virtual prison where the inmates and their cells are in levels one after the other. His cell is marked 48, and he is paired with another inmate, Trimagasi, who, on the other hand, has more experience being in the prison. In the vertical prison, the food for the inmates is delivered on a platform that moves from the top to the bottom, passing the food through each level.

No one can keep food for themselves after the platform leaves their level, and so one must eat what they need and leave for the next, but this isn't the reality as the inmates above indulge in excess and waste, subjecting those in the lower level to hunger and desperation. I wondered just how much could take place in such a claustrophobic place when I first watched the trailer, yet it was all very intriguing as I saw "interesting" things in only a few seconds. I was eager to indulge myself in what I hoped the film would turn out to be—a thrilling film indeed. I had longed for such for a long time, but what I found was rather differently enlightening and educating, and also gory.

Oh, yes, quite gory indeed. The first few minutes of the film would indicate this. So, yeah, not a lot of people may enjoy the film as it should be. I didn't mind, however, because the film's message was shedding a light on the realities of our human nature, which was the bigger picture for me.

sᴛᴏʀʏʟɪɴᴇ

Each level of the prison represented something—some version or type of human response under certain circumstances. For example, those in the levels closer to the top worried less about getting enough food; therefore, they had different perspectives from those that were more levels below them.

In the levels above, we see more of the social inequalities in hierarchies portrayed, and in the levels below, we see the extremity of human behavior for survival. I appreciate this approach to representing the human condition and our realities.

In actuality, the food would really be enough for everyone if only they just ate what they wanted, but then, greed, selfishness, and a lack of consideration for the other person's wellbeing put the lives of those down below the chain into subjective horror. This was accurately depicted in the film.

To what length can one go to ensure their survival? What is good, and what is bad? What is accepted and what isn't? The answer to this question vastly varies for different individuals, as our opinions and thoughts are subject to different beliefs. In this film, the protagonist is forced to confront his own morality and the morality of those around him.

The film raises questions about fairness and justice, and as I watched through it, I felt challenged to consider the situations and what I may actually do if I were to be placed under similar circumstances.

The film drives home a certain point: that the dangers of unchecked social inequality and possible consequences may arise when morality is ignored in order to ensure survival.

The ending, however, isn't something that I'll say settles well. The film concludes in a really vague way that left me confused about what it really meant. With how well the film was doing, its conclusion doesn't hit just right. It does manage to keep the intrigue and thrills going till that point, though.

The visual representation of the story was a crucial element of the film. And I must say, the applications of certain techniques and the attention to subtle details made the impact of the film more effective.

The camera work is something to appreciate, as I found many of the shots, angles, and perspectives to be quite enthralling as they efficiently conveyed the important visual information to help enunciate the storyline. For example, there are up-close shots that capture the desperation and hopelessness of the characters.

ᴀᴄᴛɪɴɢ

One peculiar performance in the film is that of Ivan Massagué, who plays the protagonist, Goreng. He does such a great job of delivering an emotional journey throughout the film, from his initial optimism to feelings of despair as the story unfolded. I also appreciate his efforts in connecting with his character alongside the other actors.

The entire cast, I'd say, performed brilliantly with their time on screen. Considering that there weren't that many main characters, their input was effective in delivering the story.

La Plataforma me recuerda a una época de 2020, durante la pandemia, en la que vimos un estallido de emociones en todo el periodo de este lado del mundo. Las cosas ya eran difíciles de por sí, pero se agravaron hasta empeorar cuando siguieron surgiendo situaciones cruciales para el bienestar de nuestra gente. La más destacada, para mí, es la cuestión relativa al abuso de poder de los organismos gubernamentales sobre los jóvenes, privándonos de nuestros derechos en público para explotarnos.

El abuso de poder, entre todos los defectos sociales que tenemos hoy en día, nunca conduce a nada "progresista". Y lo que tenemos es la reacción en cadena de una sola decisión insensible de una persona (o grupo de personas). Esto no es más que un producto de la condición humana.

Goreng se despierta en una prisión virtual donde los reclusos y sus celdas están en niveles uno tras otro. En los niveles superiores, vemos más retratadas las desigualdades sociales en las jerarquías, y en los niveles inferiores, vemos lo extremo del comportamiento humano para sobrevivir. Aprecio este enfoque para representar la condición humana y nuestras realidades.

En realidad, la comida sería suficiente para todos si sólo comieran lo que quisieran, pero entonces, la avaricia, el egoísmo y la falta de consideración por el bienestar de los demás ponen las vidas de los que están por debajo de la cadena en un horror subjetivo. La película lo describe con precisión.

¿Hasta dónde puede llegar uno para asegurar su supervivencia? ¿Qué es bueno y qué es malo? ¿Qué se acepta y qué no? La respuesta a esta pregunta varía enormemente de un individuo a otro, ya que nuestras opiniones y pensamientos están sujetos a diferentes creencias. En esta película, el protagonista se ve obligado a enfrentarse a su propia moralidad y a la de los que le rodean.

La película plantea cuestiones sobre la equidad y la justicia y, mientras la veía, me sentí desafiado a considerar las situaciones y lo que yo podría hacer si me viera en circunstancias similares.

La película deja claro que la desigualdad social descontrolada y sus posibles consecuencias pueden ser peligrosas cuando se ignora la moralidad para garantizar la supervivencia.

El final, sin embargo, no es algo que yo diría que resuelve bien. La película concluye de una manera muy vaga que me dejó confuso sobre lo que realmente significaba. Con lo bien que iba la película, su conclusión no da en el clavo. Sin embargo, consigue mantener la intriga y la emoción hasta ese punto.

ᴄɪɴᴇᴍᴀᴛᴏɢʀᴀғɪ́ᴀ

La representación visual de la historia era un elemento crucial de la película. Y debo decir que la aplicación de ciertas técnicas y la atención a los detalles sutiles hicieron más eficaz el impacto de la película.

El trabajo de cámara es algo que hay que apreciar, ya que muchos de los planos, ángulos y perspectivas me parecieron fascinantes, ya que transmitían con eficacia la información visual importante para ayudar a enunciar el argumento. Por ejemplo, hay primeros planos que captan la desesperación de los personajes.

ᴀᴄᴛᴜᴀᴄɪᴏ́ɴ

Una actuación peculiar en la película es la de Ivan Massagué, que interpreta al protagonista, Goreng. Hace un gran trabajo al transmitir un viaje emocional a lo largo de la película, desde su optimismo inicial hasta los sentimientos de desesperación a medida que se desarrolla la historia. También aprecio sus esfuerzos por conectar con su personaje junto a los demás actores.

Todo el reparto, diría yo, cumplió brillantemente con su tiempo en pantalla. Teniendo en cuenta que no había muchos personajes principales, su aportación fue eficaz a la hora de contar la historia.

La plataforma resultó ser algo más de lo que esperaba, pero que realmente aprecié. Ahonda en temas de desigualdad, moralidad y naturaleza humana y presenta una perspectiva oscura y sugerente de la sociedad actual, que es necesario retratar.

Es una película que recomendaría a cualquiera, después de advertirle de que es sangrienta. Me ha gustado todo: los significados sutiles de la historia, el esfuerzo y todo eso.

Plot
The movie, which is set in a bizarre jail, is told from the perspective of the lead character Goreng (Iván Massagué, who played the rebellious stutterer in Guillermo del Toro's The Faun's Labyrinth). Goreng freely chooses to take part in a social experiment that will last for six months and provide him with a certificate of permanence.
The experiment involves residing in a subterranean structure with numbered floors that runs vertically. Two convicts (volunteers, psychiatric patients, or criminals) share a toilet, two mattresses, and towels in a single cell on each floor. Each month, every prisoner switches cells (and subsequently floors) in a completely arbitrary order. The only constant is their companion, who will remain the same in the subsequent cell if they are still alive.

The rectangular opening in the middle of the prison is where a platform carrying each prisoner's preferred dishes passes once daily. Starting at floor 0, the highest level where chefs of fine dining make the food, the platform stops every two levels for two minutes.

The fate of the prisoners who arrive at the meal hungry will be more critical as you descend since those on the upper floors will gorge themselves out of dread of running out of food the next month. In actuality, it is not allowed to hold or store food. The cell then experiences a sharp shift in temperature due to cooling or overheating.

They can only keep one thing from the outside in the cell. The majority of prisoners pick a stick or something sharp or cutting.

Why you should watch it?
* A critic to society: The clear denunciation of man's avarice, which is guilty of putting his personal interests ahead of those of the community, can be seen throughout the movie. In those levels where the platform arrives empty and without food, men are forced to eat among themselves, while those at the top do not consider the needs of those at the bottom. The central theme of the movie is man's greed, making symbolic the scenes taking place in the prisoners' "cells" at the top, where they are completely careless of other people. Man is motivated by his desires and instincts, which cause him to resort to violence and to believe in the concept of "Mors tua vita mea." With its circles and creepy characters, The Hole is an evident huge portrayal of Dante's Hell. However, what really stands out is the utilization of a popular genre to address a societal subject that is particularly prevalent in modern cinema.

The role of food: The importance of food is highlighted by the way it is shown as an object that is both sacred and profane, a symbol of wealth and survival, the most sought-after item in the world yet, depending on the sequences, also the most repulsive. And when a panna cotta is chosen as a symbol of hope for reasons we invite you to learn about by watching the movie, there is a catharsis that highlights the cruelty of the universe the director imagined.

Strenght vs intellect: There is only one setting in the movie, which is called "the hole." This is nothing more than a horrifying prison where convicts are only permitted to carry one item of their choosing. The protagonist Goreng compares it to the book Don Quixote de la Mancha, while his companion Trimagasi is a razor-sharp knife. Therefore, in their decision, we see the conflict between strength and intellect from the outset, in a dialectic that will be developed throughout the story. The protagonist will strive to use his intelligence to change this abnormal order of things after realizing the mechanism that causes people at the top to live at the expense of those below, but he will have little success.

Fear changes us: Our culture is ruled by embedded, frequently hidden fear, which erupts violently, particularly in two situations: the fear of never having enough and the fear of the other. In the first instance, we are confronted with purely desire-based anthropology. We desire what we lack, and if we already possess something, we want to hold onto it. This constant restlessness, which never feels satisfied, has grave consequences and pushes us to act in extremely selfish ways. The health emergency has once again shown the alarmingly prevalent mentality that selfishness prevails above altruism. Every day, we see actual raids on supermarkets that are emptied out of concern for running out of food (just to give one example), without even thinking that someone might remain without food. In the second instance, fear of the other manifests itself in numerous ways both onscreen and in real life. The comparison to guns could be the most notable. Following the coronavirus-caused shutdown, there was a startling rise in firearms and ammunition in the United States. It was, and still is, a health emergency. Why are even gun stores empty? The old adage, "Hunger always leads to madness," is a fantastic way to express how fearful and conscious one is that lacking something essential—in this case, food—can cause one to become a robber or, at worse, a murderer. People arm themselves out of a fear that their territory—their house, their place of business, or even their body—will be invaded.

Conclusion
The movie has a lot of interesting themes and gives an insight into our society which should make us reflect. It is not a masterpiece, but I recommend watching it and taking a few minutes after you finish it to reflect on what the director of the movie wants to convey.

In this film we can find a raw political allegory and a strong criticism of greed and human behavior in adverse situations, annihilating each other like a voracious mouth that consumes everything.
The plot revolves around a platform that descends with food into a building. On each floor we can find two people who desperately seek to eat everything they can since they are not aware of what floor they will be on at a certain time, the lower the floor the more food is scarce. This is an intelligent allegory to the reality in which we live, where many people don't have the resources even to feed themselves and others consume food until they are full. Unfair or not, social stratification exists and meritocracy is often absent.

Our main character (Goreng) comes to the platform voluntarily in order to get a degree. Upon being admitted, he meets his cellmate, Trimagasu, who has been on the platform for many months and knows perfectly the adversities that are experienced there. Aware of this, Trimagasu acts as the one who accepts the social system, considering it fair and objective.

En este film podemos encontrar una cruda alegoría política y una fuerte crítica hacia la codicia y el comportamiento del ser humano ante situaciones adversas, aniquilándose entre sí como una boca voraz que lo consume todo.

La trama gira en torno a una plataforma que desciende con comida en un edificio. En cada piso nos podemos encontrar con dos personas que buscaran desesperadamente comer todo lo que puedan ya que ellos no están al tanto de saber en qué piso se encontraran en determinado tiempo, entre más bajo sea el piso más escaseara la comida. Esta es una inteligente alegoría a la realidad en que vivimos, donde muchas personas no poseen los recursos ni siquiera para alimentarse y otras consumen comida hasta hartarse. Injusta o no, la estratificación social existe y la meritocracia muchas veces ausente.

Nuestro personaje principal (Goreng) llega a la plataforma de manera voluntaria para poder conseguir una licenciatura. Al ser ingresado conoce a su compañero de celda, Trimagasu, el cual ha estado en la plataforma por muchos meses y conoce perfectamente las adversidades que se viven allí. Consciente de eso Trimagasu actúa como aquel que acepta el sistema social, considerándolo justo y objetivo.

Goreng, on the other hand, little by little becomes a reticent and subversive being who in his awakening has to become a kind of dystopian Messiah.

Goreng por el contrario poco a poco se convierte en un ser reticente y subversivo que en su despertar se ha de convertir en una especie de Mesías distopico.

The concept of the film is simple, raw, and visceral but what lies between the lines goes beyond that. Each character fulfills a role subject to the same allegory of our reality, like in the case with Goreng and Trimagasu, we can also find characters that show us an upper class seeking revenge and a desperate lower class.

Goreng begins to live his own experience, innocent at first of everything that can happen on the platform. His experience begins on the 48th floor, a middle-class level where food is still enough but is trampled on and scattered. Then when they are descending, the adversity becomes greater.

We will find gore scenes, cannibalism, despair, and a lot of psychological torture. Intelligent dialogues help us reach the climax, suspense, and terror that the film seeks to give us, coupled with a simple, gloomy, and scathing setting.

I consider this work with a similar concept than The Cube in 1997, but with a much more remarkable social context.

El concepto de la película es sencillo, crudo y visceral pero lo que subyace entre líneas va más alla de eso. Cada personaje cumple un rol sujeto a una misma alegoría de nuestra realidad, como lo es el caso de Goreng Y Trimagasu también podemos encontrar personajes que nos muestran una clase alta en busca de venganza y una clase baja desesperada.

Goreng empieza a vivir su propia experiencia, inocente al principio de todo lo que puede suceder en la plataforma. Su experiencia comienza en el piso 48, un nivel de clase media en donde la comida aun es suficiente pero se encuentra pisada y desperdigada. Luego al descender la adversidad se torna mayor.

No deseo narrar la película solo quería dar este pequeño mordisco de la obra para que puedan conocer de qué se trata.

Nos encontraremos con escenas gore, canibalismo, desesperación y mucha tortura psicológica. Los diálogos inteligentes nos ayudan a alcanzar ese clímax de suspense y terror que busca darnos la película, aunado a una ambientación sencilla, lúgubre y mordaz. Considero a esta obra con un concepto similar que nos dejó El cubo en 1997 pero con un contexto social mucho más notable.

Movies like these always leave us with a moral and teach us the harsh reality of human nature under adverse conditions. However, the hope for a change lies in an idea and that idea lies in our main character. The subversive becomes a necessity due to the disintegration of any morality and ethics.

Many times we need a strong shock to realize our actions as a species about selfishness and cruelty. The human is a social being and the individual becomes what others make of him/her. If we all cooperate with each other, this would be a much better world as long as there is a meritocracy instead an absurd nepotism.

Many theories can be told about this film since it gives rise to imagination and is very subjective, but what is clear is that it's a perfect satire of the society in which we live today. Many may claim the play has communist overtones but I consider it has nothing to do with it and goes much further than that. It's about human nature itself, about how we are corruptible beings under serious difficulties, but also about how an idea can change the mindset of many.

Películas como estas siempre nos dejan una moraleja y nos enseñan la cruda realidad de la naturaleza humana bajo condiciones adversas. Sin embargo, la esperanza de un cambio reside en una idea y esa idea radica en nuestro personaje principal. Lo subversivo se vuelve una necesidad debido a la desintegración de cualquier moralidad y ética.

Muchas veces necesitamos un fuerte shock para darnos cuenta de nuestras acciones como especie, del egoísmo y la crueldad. El humano es un ser social y el individuo se convierte en lo que otros hacen de él. Si todos cooperaríamos entre si este sería un mundo mucho mejor siempre y cuando exista una meritocracia en contra de un nepotismo absurdo.

De este film se pueden contar muchas teorías ya que da pie a la imaginación y es muy subjetivo, pero lo que sí es claro es que es una perfecta sátira a la sociedad en que vivimos hoy en día. Muchos pueden alegar que la obra tiene tintes comunistas pero considero que no tiene nada que ver y va mucho más allá de eso. Se trata de la naturaleza humana en sí, del cómo somos seres corruptibles bajo una grave dificultad pero también de como una idea puede cambiar la mentalidad de muchos.

The Spanish movie The Platform that is currently on Netflix shows great human nature, while playing with the convention and slightly inspired by an older movie.

The film begins very inconspicuously with a man in a cell who voluntarily went to her because he wants to get a diploma for merit, against him is another man who ended up in the cell because he had only a choice either there or to a psychiatrist (he chose the end of the end worse) and against there is a huge pit that you pull over several hundred floors.

Once a day, a Swedish table with the best food passes through the hole and everyone being higher can eat, but the lower the worse for the people in the cell.

The film perfectly describes human nature if you are high enough, the days fly quietly, but when the month passes and you are thrown into new, sometimes lower targets, hunger begins to dominate.

The film focuses on the psychology of our main character, who turns from an ordinary man reading Don Quixote into a cannibal under the influence of hunger and hesitates at nothing.

Constant hallucinations, constant turmoil and lack of food mean that the main character has the worst 6 months in his life. She tries to change something when she comes across a new occupant of the cell, but people are so constructed that she rides as much as possible without looking at others.

The work is minimalist, there are no special effects here, only one cell and a hole in the middle where the platform provides food.

The film is an interesting appeal that people can eat all of them without looking at the others around them. I watched the film with English dubbing and I must admit that the votes were really interesting for this work.

The film is strong, more than once touching the boundaries of morality and overcoming it to show how human behavior is not eating for a long time.

Our main character will have several roommates and everyone has different ambitions and a different character from the old man who did not like commercials, to the lady who made the list of dishes and the general interview before hitting the "test", to the black guy whom I immediately liked, because somehow the only one did not think about himself and he wanted to show "to those in advance" that there is a problem and a serious one and their test is completely badly balanced.

Despite an hour and a half, the film is not boring, as the viewer wants to see what will happen next, where the platform will go and whether someone will save from this sick game.

The film is partly inspired by such a Next Floor work, there was also an excess of food there, and overeating resulted in the whole table and people falling one floor down, which could be an allegory of hell. The platform is conceived of the same hell, the lower the floor, the human rule begins to enter a new, sick level.

The hero, like Jesus, does not want to change all this and he has to go to the bottom himself for something to change.

A very nice movie with many threads that is worth watching for me on 9/10

Es un verdadero placer participar en esta comunidad en hive, desde hace tiempo he querido publicar contenido en Movies & TV Shows, la verdad me parece una fantástica comunidad y hoy quiero estrenarme acá, es por eso que he preparado con mucho cariño una pequeña reseña, al mismo tiempo que muestro mi perspectiva de esta película tratando de adentrarme en aspectos que el autor de esta película tal vez quiso reflejar en la gran pantalla.

La verdad esta es una película del 2019, sin embargo, no había tenido la oportunidad de verla, solo hace algunos días pude ver esta película española cuyos derechos son comprados por Netflix y que en inglés es lanzada con el nombre The Platform, anteriormente veía todos los memes que salieron que alusión a esta entrega cinematográfica pero no sabía de donde habían salido, hasta que por fin pude ver esta en la que a mi parecer es una muy buena película. Siendo sincero al verla pensé en Hive, quería escribir sobre mi apreciación sobre esta y otras películas, además de series que he podido ver, sin embargo, no lo había hecho hasta que encontré esta comunidad de Movies & TV Shows, encontré este lugar para poder escribir sobre este tema, a mi parecer, el lugar perfecto.

Atención: a continuación redactaré varios aspectos de la película que me llamaron la atención, es decir, a continuación tendremos spoilers sobre la película el hoyo.

La Película:

Esta película es de ficción, reflejando una sociedad distópica en la cual los protagonistas son encerrados en una especie de cárcel, donde así como lo dice el anciano Trimagasi que también es encerrado en el puesto 48 junto a Goreng, el objetivo es comer para sobrevivir hasta cumplir el tiempo determinado en esta cárcel.

Esta cárcel es verdaderamente peculiar, podemos apreciar en esta película que los que entran en el hoyo pueden entrar de manera voluntaria, así lo hace Goreng, para intentar dejar de fumar con esta experiencia, sin embargo, Trimagasi es acusado de asesinato y cumple su condena en esta cárcel.

Los espacios de estos prisioneros o celdas están colocadas en forma de torre, en el cual cada nivel se encuentran dos individuos, al finalizar 30 días los prisioneros cambian de lugar, es decir puede subir o bajar de lugar en esta torre. La estadía se complica al saber que solamente una mesa con comida baja a cada nivel por cierto tiempo, dándole un gran banquete a los primeros niveles y al seguir bajando se va agotando el alimento, hasta llegar a un punto en los niveles inferiores en la cual apenas llegan vasos y platos vacíos. No existe la comida en niveles muy bajos de esa torre.

Critica a la sociedad y al sistema

La verdad noto en esta película una crítica muy marcada a la sociedad, además, de un sistema pésimo que hace dejar sin recursos a gran parte de los reclusos en esta película, dándole beneficios excesivos a los que se encuentran en un nivel alto. Una de las escenas que me impactaron es cuando el anciano Trimagasi literalmente escupe encima de la comida que iba bajando al nivel inferior, no solo eso, también orina en el agujero donde va bajando el alimento.

Goreng le pregunta porque ha hecho tal cosa tan desagradable, pero el anciano Trimagasi le contesta muy seguro que ellos están arriba en el puesto número 48 y son muy superiores a las personas que se encuentran debajo de ellos, son merecedores de escupitajos en sus comidas solo por estar debajo de ellos. Goreng le pregunta que los de arriba podrían hacer lo mismo con ellos y eso le molestaría, el anciano da por hecho que las personas de niveles superiores ya han escupido sobre su comida.

En mi opinión Trimagasi representa un adulto ya corrompido en su totalidad por el sistema, sintiéndose muy superior a las personas que se encuentran abajo en los niveles inferiores, a burlarse de ellos e irrespetarlos, sin embargo, está acostumbrado al maltrato de las personas en niveles inferiores, quejándose pero igual orinando a los que se encuentra debajo de él.

Goreng por otro lado un hombre más joven representa una persona que se da cuenta como es el sistema y la sociedad en realidad, con inocencia trata de sobrellevar las cosas de la mejor manera posible, tratando de ayudar a los que pueda.

Sociedad distorsionada:

En esta película el autor hace una fuerte crítica en los niveles sociales, representados en la cárcel, dando a entender que las personas aunque los puestos cambien hoy pueden estar arriba y mañana abajo estas aprovecharan cuando se encuentre los primeros puestos para denigrar y despreciar a las personas que se encuentran debajo, sabiendo que en algún momento les tocara a ellos pasar por esa situación.

Un detalle Curioso

Goreng, en una de las primeras escenas trata de quedarse con una manzana, sin embargo la habitación se calienta tanto debido a que se quedó con algo de comida que tiene que tirarla por el orificio donde baja la mesa de comida, si detallamos este suceso es claramente una crítica al sistema, dando a entender que ese sistema trata de ser lo más benevolente y equitativo con los prisioneros, nadie debe quedarse con nada de comida, sin embargo es una simple ilusión de equidad debido a que igualmente los de los niveles inferiores mueren de hambre.

Es como decir que el sistema no deja que te quedes con los recursos, debes devolverlos para tener una ilusión de que es equitativo.

Critica a la Propaganda y Consumismo

En una de las escenas el anciano Trimagasi cuenta su historia de cómo llego hasta ese lugar explicó que debido a una propaganda en la televisión compró un cuchillo, sin embargo, al comprarse ese cuchillo debido a la gran propaganda que tenía en televisión pudo observar que habían lanzado un cuchillo mejor, este con gran enojo lanzo su televisión por la ventana donde un desafortunado peatón pasaba, por esa razón estaba en el hoyo

Bajar de nivel

En la primera parte de la película tanto Goreng como Trimagasi parece sobrellevar de la mejor manera su situación, la comida llega y pueden estar con cierta tranquilidad. Todo esto cambia cuando bajan al nivel 171, donde la plataforma llega sin siquiera huesos del pollo comido en niveles superiores. En esta trama el anciano Trimagasi ata a la cama a Goreng, diciéndole que esa es su única alternativa, comerse poco a poco a su compañero, a pesar del esfuerzo de Goreng por soltarse y mediar con el anciano este le argumenta que puede ser que sobreviva esos 30 días sin comer, pero si por mala suerte despiertan en un nivel bajo nuevamente seria el fin. Trimagasi corta partes de carne del cuerpo de Goreng para comer luego de varios días de hambre, esto representa un aspecto de supervivencia en la sociedad.

Otra escena curiosa

Otra de las escenas que pude apreciar es en la que salen los cocineros del gran banquete que baja en la prisión, sin embargo, se nota un hombre que al parecer es el jefe de los cocineros muy molesto, un cabello ha caído dentro de la comida, estaba verdaderamente enfadado de que toda la presentación de la comida en la plataforma no quedara perfecta.

En mi opinión esta es otra clara crítica al sistema, haciéndolo parecer lo más perfecto posible sobre todo a las personas de los primeros niveles, sin embargo, no es equitativo ni justo ya que las personas en los niveles inferiores mueren de hambre.

La película sigue su desarrollo y Goreng asesina a Trimagasi, sin embargo, su mente le juega malas pasadas y le hace alucinar con este anciano, hablándole como si se encontrara en la habitación junto a él. Luego de cometer hasta canibalismo para sobrevivir Goreng sube nuevamente a uno de los primeros puestos, como ya ha sufrido en carne propia lo mal que está el sistema decide hacer algo.

Sabe que si las personas comen solamente lo suficiente todos, absolutamente todos en la prisión pueden comer, decide arriesgar su propia vida para ayudar a todos en la prisión dejando su comodidad de los primeros puestos para bajar con la plataforma y así resguardar la comida para repartirla equitativamente a todos, dejando un platillo intacto, como símbolo de que hay una esperanza en el sistema y rompiendo los paradigmas de una sociedad que no se preocupa por sus semejantes.

Pienso que esto representa el tipo de personas que intentan ayudar a la sociedad, que a pesar de estar cómodos económicamente buscan ayudar al prójimo. Todo esto sucede con bastante violencia para cuidar la comida de los más hambrientos, pero en el último nivel encuentran a una niña, Goreng asume que ese es el símbolo que necesita para demostrar que la humanidad puede avanzar a pesar de ser una sociedad corrompida, un símbolo de esperanza y de un nuevo orden, así como de un nuevo sistema.

En este punto ya al final de la película es donde queda a libre interpretación, en varias teorías la niña no existe, solo es un símbolo, otros críticos dicen que la niña si existe, sin embargo, en mi opinión personal, esta niña representa el futuro, la nueva generación que no está en el sistema y que puede realmente hacer algo a favor de un cambio en la sociedad.

Goreng, decide no subir a la plataforma con la niña para ir al primer nivel, pienso que ya cumplió su misión, es un adulto que pudo dar lo mejor de sí pero vivió tanto tiempo dentro del sistema que ya se encuentra corrompido por el mismo, dándole completamente el espacio a la nueva generación, a la niña, real o no.

Conclusión

En mi opinión la película fue buena, apoyo a los críticos y pienso que tuvo bien merecido todos los premios ganados por esta entrega cinematográfica, me parece bastante entretenido la crítica social que expone la película, así como también fuertes críticas al sistema.

Muchas veces nos preguntamos cómo películas de este tipo pueden recibir tantos premios, en lo particular hay que ver el contexto, lo que quiere transmitir los guionistas con la historia, allí nos damos cuenta porque son tan premiadas este tipo de películas, que si es verdad, no es del gusto de todos, sin embargo, a mí me ha gustado bastante y es por eso que mi estreno en Movies & TV Shows es comentando esta película de habla hispana, la verdad pienso que esta comunidad tiene un gran potencial de crecimiento.

Opinión Personal sobre el Mensaje:

Debido al claro mensaje izquierdista de esta película, debo afirmar que desde mi punto de vista esta película está totalmente atada a la ficción, es decir, el mundo no está dentro de una prisión, los individuos pueden escalar niveles por sus propios medios, es decir, trabajo, voluntad y dedicación. Sobre todo en Latinoamérica sabemos identificar las consecuencias de las ideologías políticas, no me gusta hablar de este tema en hive pero me parece necesario aclarar este punto, a pesar de que es una película con un mensaje ideológico bastante marcado debo decir que me ha gustado ver y escribir sobre ella.

The truth is that this is a film from 2019, however, I had not had the opportunity to see it, only a few days ago I was able to see this Spanish film whose rights are bought by Netflix and that in English is released under the name The Platform, previously I saw all the memes that came out that allude to this film delivery but I did not know where they came from, until finally I was able to see this one in which I think it is a very good film. Being sincere when I saw it I thought about Hive, I wanted to write about my appreciation for this and other movies, besides series that I have been able to see, however, I had not done it until I found this community of Movies & TV Shows, I found this place to be able to write about this topic, in my opinion, the perfect place.

Attention: I will now write about several aspects of the movie that caught my attention, that is, we will have spoilers about the movie The Hole.

The Film:

This film is fictional, reflecting a dystopian society in which the protagonists are locked up in a kind of prison, where, as the old man Trimagasi says, who is also locked up in position 48 next to Goreng, the objective is to eat to survive until he serves his time in this prison.

The truth is that I notice in this film a very marked criticism of society, as well as of a lousy system that leaves many of the inmates in this film without resources, giving excessive benefits to those at a high level. One of the scenes that struck me is when the old man Trimagasi literally spits on the food that was going down to the lower level, not only that, but also urinates in the hole where the food goes down.

In this film, the author makes a strong criticism of the social levels represented in the prison, suggesting that although the positions may change today, people will take advantage of the situation when they find themselves in the top positions to denigrate and despise the people below them, knowing that at some point they will have to go through this situation.

A curious detail

Goreng, in one of the first scenes tries to keep an apple, however the room gets so hot because he kept some food that he has to throw it through the hole where the food table goes down, if we detail this event is clearly a criticism of the system, implying that this system tries to be as benevolent and equitable with the prisoners, no one should keep any food, however it is a simple illusion of equity because equally those on lower levels die of hunger.

It's like saying that the system doesn't let you keep the resources, you have to give them back to have an illusion of equity.

Criticize advertisement and Consumerism

In one of the scenes the old man Trimagasi tells his story of how he got to that place, he explained that due to a propaganda on TV he bought a knife, however, when he bought that knife due to the great propaganda he had on TV he could see that they had thrown a better knife, this one with great anger threw his TV through the window where an unfortunate pedestrian was passing, for that reason he was in the hole

Lowering the level

In the first part of the film both Goreng and Trimagasi seem to cope with their situation in the best way, the food arrives and they can be in some comfort. All this changes when they go down to level 171, where the platform arrives without even the bones from the chicken eaten on higher levels. In this plot the old man Trimagasi ties Goreng to the bed, telling him that this is his only alternative, to eat his companion little by little, in spite of Goreng's effort to loosen up and mediate with the old man. Trimagasi cuts off meat parts from Goreng's body to eat after several days of starvation; this represents an aspect of survival in society.

Another curious scene

Another scene that I could appreciate is the one in which the cooks leave the great banquet that goes down in the prison, however, you can notice a man who apparently is the head of the cooks very upset, a hair has fallen into the food, he was really angry that all the presentation of the food on the platform was not perfect.

In my opinion this is another clear criticism of the system, making it seem as perfect as possible especially to the people on the first levels, however, it is not equitable or fair since the people on the lower levels die of hunger.

The film follows his development and Goreng kills Trimagasi, however, his mind plays tricks on him and makes him hallucinate this old man, talking to him as if he were in the room with him. After committing even cannibalism to survive, Goreng climbs again to one of the first positions, as he has already suffered in his own flesh how bad the system is, he decides to do something.

He knows that if people eat only enough, absolutely everyone in the prison can eat, he decides to risk his own life to help everyone in the prison, leaving his comfort of the first places to go down with the platform and thus save the food to distribute it equally to everyone, leaving a dish intact, as a symbol that there is hope in the system and breaking the paradigms of a society that does not care about their peers.

I think this represents the kind of people who try to help society, who despite being comfortable economically seek to help others. All this happens with enough violence to take care of the food of the most hungry, but at the last level they find a child, Goreng assumes that this is the symbol he needs to show that humanity can move forward in spite of being a corrupt society, a symbol of hope and a new order, as well as a new system.

At this point, at the end of the film, the girl does not exist, she is only a symbol. Other critics say that the girl does exist, but in my personal opinion, this girl represents the future, the new generation that is not in the system and that can really do something for a change in society.

Especially in Latin America we know how to identify the consequences of political ideologies. I don't like to talk about this subject in hive but I think it is necessary to clarify this point, even though it is a film with a quite marked ideological message I must say that I liked watching and writing about it.

In fact, I have never seen a regular action, fighting, or comedy film from a familiar genre. But this film calls for reflection, calls for a reconsideration of the world and within us. It is "The Platform" (in Spanish: El Hoyo) is a Spanish science fiction movie, directed by Galdere Gustillo. It was written by creators David Desola; Pedro Rivero.

The story of the movie

The movie begins with a person who wakes up from sleep to find himself in a closed room with two pits, one on the ceiling and the other on the floor, and on the other side of the room he finds an old person with no signs of surprise and exclamation at all. The film is for me to a group of people searching for food and killing each other, but the film calls for looking at the class in the world, for everyone to look at the lowest working class who are trying to find food only while you are stuck in bliss. It also calls us not to give in to bitter reality, even if your life is the price, but you have to refuse humiliation and submission. The film also calls for the rejection of racism among people. Those who revolutionized and fought against the regime are black and white men We are all partners in this world. Una de las actividades preferidas de las personas durante estas semanas de confinamiento es ver películas y series; ponerse al día con programas que querían verse hace tiempo o explorar las posibilidades de Netflix. Si bien no es algo nuevo, lo interesante ahora es que el aumento de la demanda ha sido global: todo el mundo está viendo más o menos lo mismo. Si a ello sumamos el uso de las redes sociales, nos encontramos con que la programación nos bombardea por todos lados. Seguramente ven, han visto, o querrán ver Milagro en la celda 7, Poco ortodoxa, Élite o La Casa de Papel; y seguramente durante las últimas semanas han oído hablar de una película llamada El Hoyo.

Se trata de un thriller español del año pasado que podemos catalogar como una distopía gore, con un toque de ciencia ficción y otro de drama social. A pesar de las semejanzas con otras cintas de terror, no pertenece al género en el sentido más estricto de la palabra; es más bien suspenso con carnicería. Pero, ¿qué es El Hoyo? El nombre se refiere a una plataforma vertical, una especie de prisión con un aparentemente infinito número de niveles, con un hueco rectangular en el centro, lo que permite asomarse y ver la negrura hacia arriba y hacia abajo, pero sin ventanas ni puertas. No se puede salir. Hay dos personas por nivel y el confinamiento es de treinta días en cada nivel. Al final del mes, los condenados son anestesiados y llevados a otro nivel, al azar. Es decir, pueden despertar más cerca de la cima, o del fondo... si es que hay fondo.

El Banquete

No es exactamente una cárcel, porque hay quienes entran allí voluntariamente (la estadía de cada uno es variable y está fijada de antemano) y a cada persona se le permite que ingrese con un objeto de su preferencia. ¿Qué hacen allí? Pasar el tiempo y comer... si es que pueden. El Hoyo es un banquete vertical. Por el hueco central desciende, todos los días, una gran mesa repleta de comida que se detiene en cada nivel durante unos minutos para que las personas coman. El problema es que a medida que desciende, la comida va mermando; imaginen estar en el nivel cuarenta, por ejemplo, eso significa que por encima han comido setenta y ocho personas, con lo que no debe quedar ya mucha comida y si estás más abajo, probablemente no tengas qué comer... durante un mes. Ese confinamiento salvaje genera diversas situaciones extremas: asesinatos, canibalismo, violaciones y sangre. Mucha sangre. En esencia, se trata de sobrevivir. Pero, ¿eso es todo? ¿por qué está dando tanto de qué hablar esta película?

Asomarse al centro

Veamos. Empecemos con los nombres de los protagonistas. Goreng, Miharu, Imoguiri, Trimagasi, Baharat... todos son nombres orientales de platos o especias (y son asignados); si relacionamos eso con el banquete central, tenemos un tema gustativo, sensorial. Luego, está la estructura del edificio. Una construcción vertical descendente con penitentes en cada nivel, recuerda a primera vista al Inferno de Dante, a pesar de no ser circular. La comida es preparada por la administración, un grupo de cocineros encabezados por un chef, que ese encuentra en el nivel cero y hacen descender el banquete todos los días. Muchos han visto en ellos una representación de Dios y los recursos que pone a disposición de la humanidad todos los días (la comida) y en los condenados a la sociedad y cómo aprovechan su oportunidad para comer, con rencor hacia los que están arriba y sin pensar en los que están debajo. Esa verticalidad representa, para algunos, los estratos sociales en el mundo de hoy.

Goreng ingresa al lugar con la obra clásica de Cervantes, El Quijote, y su parecido físico con el Hidalgo es notable. Pero además, lee pasajes de la novela que resultan claves en el mensaje central (estén atentos a ello). Para quiénes ya vieron la películas (y si has llegado hasta acá es porque ya la viste o porque no te importan los spoilers) se hacen dos preguntas centrales. La primera, ¿están muertos? La segunda, ¿qué representa la niña? Bien, la niña puede simbolizar la pureza. Dentro de un abismo de corrupción y perversidad, de salvajismo primitivo en el que los humanos han caído, la niña emerge como ese elemento sin mácula, como la última esperanza de salvación, de decirle a la administración que las cosas han cambiado, que la humanidad no está del todo perdida.

Miharu

Pero ¿es a niña el mesías? No. Ella es el mensaje. El portador del mensaje, Goreng, quien la encontró, fue por ella y se sacrificó para elevarla, es el salvador. El arquetipo mesiánico de la mitología cristiana se identifica más con él a lo largo de la cinta; de hecho incluso hay derramamiento de sangre y su carne es comida. En cuanto a lo otro, Goreng muere claramente al final cuando se reencuentra con Trimagasi, lo que tiene sentido con su sacrificio voluntario; pero hay otra lectura. El Hoyo es un edificio imposible. Dejé por fuera el análisis de Miharu, de la Panna cotta y otros elementos presentes en la trama, para no hacer un spoiler total. A mi parecer, la película no tiene una única explicación. Es decir, no existe una única teoría que unifique todos los elementos dispersos en la historia. Creo que más bien partieron de una idea central y dejaron otras vías muertas para confundir a las personas y obligarles a verla de nuevo. Tiene suspenso, sangre, mensajes crípticos, reminiscencias fílmicas (El Cubo, El juego del miedo) y literarias (la Commedia de Dante, Don Quijote de la Mancha) y un final abierto a interpretaciones que da para pensar y darle vueltas al asunto, lo cual se agradece. Sin embargo, aunque la considero mejor que otros thrillers españoles, considero que El Hoyo no pasa de 6/10 puntos por ciertas fallas argumentales y la falta de pericia a la hora de filmar y mostrar las escenas gore. Más que por el producto final, recomiendo verla como ejercicio analítico. Al verla, respondan, ¿qué entiendes de ella? ¿cuál es el mensaje? ¿qué notas que otros no hayan notado? Хочется продолжить тему замысловатого фестивального кино и тому есть прекрасный повод — 27 марта в каталоге потокового гиганта Netflix появилась фантастическая драма «Платформа» (El hoyo) от испанского режиссера Гальдера Гастелу-Уррутии, впервые показанная на кинофестивале в Торонто и получившая престижную премию «Platform» в номинации полуночное кино.

Горенг (Иван Массаге) приходит в себя в небольшом помещении, напоминающем бункер. Напротив — пожилой «сокамерник», назвавшийся Тримагаси. Посередине комнаты, на полу и потолке — прямоугольные дыры в которых видны десятки, если не сотни аналогичных этажей.

Раз в день через эту дыру в камеру спускается платформа с едой и главное в том, что верхние этажи получают настоящий пир, а каждый последующий этаж — довольствуется объедками. Раз в месяц «заключенные» волей «всемогущей администрации» меняются этажами и те, кто был на первых этажах могут легко оказаться на самом дне, куда не доезжают даже крошки.

Пожилой Тримагаси — попал в это место за убийство и отбывает свой срок, а скучающий Горенг — сознательно подписался на участие в этом якобы «социальном эксперименте», с целью немного заработать и наконец-то бросить курить, а единственным предметом, который он решил взять с собой, оказывается томик Сервантеса...

Испанские кинематографисты любят глубокие сюжеты, довольно часто делают ставку на мощную драматургию и герметичные сюжеты («Дикая история»), в которых обыгрывают остросоциальные темы, и в этом плане «Платформа» — невероятно хороша.

Аллегория на социальное неравенство, предельно сатира на идеи коммунизма, остроумные диалоги, и сеттинг, в духе «Куба» Винченцо Натали, располагающий к пристальному вниманию к персонажам, помимо прочего щедро подкрепленный отсылками к религиозным текстам и шедеврам мировой литературы.

Горенг — одновременно революционер-романтик, Дон Кихот и Данте, спускающийся в ад. Тримагаси — хладнокровный убийца, мудренный житейским опытом Санчо и знающий устройство ада Вергилий. Проведя эти праллели происходящая на нижних этажах тюрьмы лютая дичь с пугающе-реалистичными сценами каннибализма и насилия становятся полностью оправданной, а любая из частей «Пилы» по сравнению с этим кажется детсадовской шалостью. Кажется, снять после «Платформы» нечто более крутое в стиле «выжить любой ценой» решительно невозможно.

По крайней мере настолько аккуратно жонглировать жанрами и бросаться из социальной драмы в фантастический триллер и кровавый ужастик так как это сделал Гальдер Гастелу-Уррутия, ранее продюсировавший по-хорошему странные, но нереально красивые детские мультфильмы, мало кто сумеет и для меня этот смелый режиссер стал настоящим «открытием года».

Фильм очень тяжелый, совсем непростой, и при всей своей мерзости и кровавости, в более чем скромных декорациях, остается дьявольски умной историей об искуплении грехов, так что смотреть его или нет — решайте сами.

So, as I visited Netflix a few days ago, it showed me the movie The Platform as one of the most popular movies on Netflix in Hungary on that given day. I had never heard of the movie, but I thought I'd give it a try... after all, the short description made it sound like a movie that I might actually like.

Two prisoners per floor, wondering how much they'll get to eat that day. one inmate has had enough of not getting enough. It's time to send a message.

The Platform -- Not what I expected

When I sat down to watch the movie, I expected it to be a typical action movie in which some inmates started a revolt and fought their way to the top using violence and strength. However, this movie was completely different.

Instead of turning into a typical "liberate of from the prison" movie, this is a psychological thriller that makes you think about life and the actual message.

Because, in the prison, there are many floors. Every day a big plate of food is passing through a giant hole, stopping for a minute or two on each floor. The prisoners can eat while the plate is there, and what is left remains for those on the levels beneath. In other words, it portrays a world in which those at the highest levels can choose freely and eat whatever they want to, but those further down, might not even get their hands on any food at all.

Do you see the similarities to the world we live in? It isn't hard at all to move these philosophical questions we see in the movie, and turn them into real-life questions that we can easily understand and think about today.

The Platform - the movie in itself

The movie in itself isn't a fast-paced movie. Instead, it reminds me a bit about The Guilty, a really slow-paced movie in which we see a cop speaking in the phone throughout the entire movie. Well, compared to that movie, this is packed with action, as we really see other scenes, more actors taking part... but still, this is not the fast-paced movie with cuts every third second.

The actors are awesome in their roles, and especially the main actor Ivan Massagué in his role as Goreng, and Zorion Eguileor as Trimagasi are fantastic.

The movie can be brutal at times, and it isn't at all suitable for young teenagers.

Final thoughts about The Platform

I believe this is a movie perfect to watch in these days. It will make you forget about the coronavirus for some minutes, and instead, it will help you focus on something that might actually be a problem on earth today... selfishness and greed.

As a movie in itself, it is great. If you add the underlying message, it is even better!

So this, according to my homepage, is the 2nd most watched or trending movie on the streaming service right now. This is a good thing because it is nice to see Netflix users branching away from the usual Hollywood drivel and diving into a Spanish film that has a deeper message to it.

The Platform is a film that will make you think about the underlying message, which is much greater than what is simply presented on screen

The film is set in a prison of sorts which is entirely vertical. It is many stories high and the people on each level can not climb up from their current floor. Every day, a massive spread of food is introduced at the top of the tower, and a certain amount of time is allowed for each level to eat what they want. After a certain amount of time the platform descends to the levels below.

Obviously, the closer you are to the top the better access you are going to have to food and this says a lot about the world as a whole. The people at the top of the economic literal "food chain" have the best access, while the people towards the bottom have to rely on whatever is left over, if there is anything left over at all. The absence of food at times turns some people to violence despite the fact that they only have one person in the "cell" with them and that one person is not at all responsible for the lack of food.

The reason why this film is fantastic is because it extends well beyond its actual story. The presentation is very much like Saw in that it is gruesome, bloody, and graphic, but it also has an underlying story that makes you think long after it is over. It exhibits the greed that exists in most of us if given the opportunity. What would YOU do if you were at the top of the tower? Would you care about the people below or would you just thank your good fortune for being near the top and fend only for yourself?

I've said all good things but there is one caveat with this film: It can be viewed as a bit boring since the scenery never changes. In my mind it wasn't necessary but I can fully understand how some people would get bored. Also, for people that are opposed to reading subtitles because doing so takes away from their ability to stare at their phones while "kinda" watching a movie, this isn't going to work for you unless you are fluent in Spanish.

For me, this film is a work of art and one of the better presentations I have seen in quite some time.

This is one of the most unique and bizarre films I have seen in months, probably in years. It is a Spanish production available on Netflix for older teen and adult audiences. The story takes place in a very bizarre place, it is like an underground building where each floor is super simple, it has 2 beds and some bathroom structures. There is a huge hole in the middle of each floor like the one in elevators but with no doors, so if people aren't careful they can fall down this hole and die.

Why is there a hole in the middle you might ask yourself, well because you see, in this place the people are trapped, there are no doors for them to go out and live free. How come they don't die from hunger? Here is the sci-fi element, that hole is used by some kind of levitating table, maybe it uses magnets but this isn't explained, this table provides the food these people eat. The macabre part is that food is replenished daily at floor # 0, which means the ground floor at the top, each day it goes down full of food. The table parks itself on each floor for a couple of minutes and then it goes down to the next floor.

There are countless floors deep in the ground, too many to count, each month the people inside change floor randomly, sometimes they will be on one of the first floors, other times they will be down deep. How do you think humans will behave themselves under these bizarre conditions? What will their eating habits be like?

This is a shocking macabre experiment about human nature, it reminded me of movies about the Stanford prison experiment but with the nice sci-fi twist that was certainly a good addition. It kept me glued to the screen for the entire time, interested in seeing how the characters evolved as time passed.

The entire film is about one guy that just arrived in this place, and his "roommate". It is a dark film no doubt about that, you will see people acting in a very primitive way, violence and blood, cruelty, psychological deterioration, despair, and more... There is no civility in here, in fact, having civility under these conditions is self-defeating. The same goes for solidarity or empathy. This is a pessimist allegory of any type of society throughout history, and it is beautifully done.

Even though the performances were all good the plot is the real star here though. This is the type of story that can work with any normal actor because everything interesting is in the setting, the context, and the plot. The CGI for the sci-fi part is good too.

There is just 1 thing I didn't like and it is the abrupt ending. I mean, I was expecting more information about this place, the ending is up to the interpretation of the viewer which doesn't surprise given the fact this is an allegory, but I think they could have finished the plot in a more direct way.

If you like psychological films, and experiments like the one I mentioned before (Stanford) then you will surely enjoy this movie, in fact, it is a must-watch. People that don't enjoy watching violence and that type of thing might have to think twice before watching this movie. However, the violence is just one unavoidable aspect of this film, the main point is the allegory and the interesting dynamic the sci-fi element allows.

The best

Intriguing place. I wonder who built it.

Interesting story and macabre social experiment that rewards the viewer.

Thoughtful allegory that everyone will quickly understand.

The worst

The ending was very abrupt. I wanted to know much more about the story of this macabre place.
