Opinion about the Netflix movie "The Strays" - Good or bad?@musicandreview812d
I came to this film by scrolling through Netflix in search of something worthwhile, and although I had no reference or had not heard of it, I decided to give it a chance since I really had nothing else to see. When reading the synopsis I thought it would be a movie similar to “Us” or “Get Out”, for some reason I felt that vibe of the typical family in which one of them hides something or is pursued by a dark past to take revenge and destroy their family , and well, maybe my suspicions were correct.
"The Strays" from the year 2023, takes us to an English suburb where there don't seem to be many people of African descent, not exactly meaning that they are racist, but these things always draw our attention when the story is presented to us and even more so with what is to come. then. Neve, who is a biracial woman, lives there happily and successfully with her husband and children. In the opening minutes of the film I noticed strange behaviors on her part that made me understand that she had complexes about her physique, more specifically her hair.
It happens that when we try to escape from our past, no matter how much we try to forget or pretend that nothing we did at the time happened, the subconscious somehow plays against us to make us aware that we have a debt, so to speak. Thus, a gesture from a person, a place, a movie or any other element can relate to us or immediately remind us of what is in our memory that continually disturbs us. Well, something like what I mentioned was what was happening to Neve, but more than disturbing memories, it gradually became a reality that few of us would like to have in our lives.
I warn you that what I write next will be a spoiler, but I think it is important to give you a little more context. It turns out that, in the past, Neve left what was her house at that time due to typical family problems mostly related to her partner, but the highlight here is that she even left, abandoning her two children. Was it a big deal? Well, Everyone does what they do and has their motivations, but for a mother to abandon her children even in the most unfavorable conditions is surely wrong, and well, it had consequences.
Now, something more complex than abandoning your sons when they are still children is starting another family, hiding everything and pretending that none of the above happened. Neve got married, had two more children and in that sense she was apparently happy, but destiny has what it has for each of us and sometimes she is in charge of putting our feet on the ground. Then, our protagonist finds herself involved in certain mental conflicts related to her skin color, but that is not the worst, she begins to see a person who seems to be staring at her, as if wanting something from her or wanting to get her attention and this is because Of course it caused him a lot of fear.
Thus, the shadows of the past begin to play with Neve's mind, everything she has achieved so far is at risk and she evidently has every intention of fleeing, just as she did the first time, but this time her family and prestige is at risk.

For the moment I won't tell you more, but believe me, the best is what follows, so if you are somewhat curious about this film you can watch it with peace of mind. Now, is this movie good? Is it bad? Well, I would say that it fulfills the function of entertaining, I certainly will not remember it as a top film and it is even likely that I will forget it over the years, but if you are looking for a suspense film and some drama that is moderately interesting then "The Strays" in Netflix could work for you. Today I saw a very strange movie, at one point I felt it was bizarre, even a little satirical... THE STRAYS, is a movie that I saw on Netflix and they classified it as horror although it doesn't seem that much to me, it's all more psychological up to a point where a regrettable action is carried out.
Hoy ví una película bastante extraña, en un punto sentí lo bizarro hasta un poco satírico... LOS EXTRAÑOS, es una película que ví por Netflix y la clasificaron como terror aunque no me parece tanto, es todo más psicológico hasta en un punto dónde si se ejecuta una acción lamentable.

The story begins with a woman talking on the phone with her sister. The conversation is about money. The woman, crying, tells her that life is not fair and that she wants more money. The next scene below is that she is seen leaving the place where she currently lived.
La historia empieza con una mujer hablando por teléfono con su hermana y la conversación es sobre el dinero, la mujer entre llantos le dice que la vida no es justa y que quiere más dinero. La siguiente escena a continuación es que se ve abandonando el lugar donde vivía actualmente.

To begin with, it is important to mention that we clearly see that this is a light-skinned black woman, but now she seems to hide her entire being, even her curls, which she hides with a straight hair wig, and the attitudes she takes seem to be a little racist and a little I thought it was all quite schizophrenic.
This movie makes us think that Neve is going crazy since she often sees a black man hanging around and when the others suddenly turn around, the man is no longer there, but that man is one of the secrets from her past that she has taken care of to hide, his arrival causes Neve's perfect life to begin to fall apart.
Sin demorar tanto empezamos a ver los verdaderos colores de esta mujer. Para empezar es importante mencionar que claramente vemos que esta es una mujer negra de piel clara pero ahora parece ocultar todo su ser hasta sus rizos los oculta con una peluca de cabello liso, y las actitudes que toma parecen ser un poco racistas y en un poco pensé que todo era bastante esquizofrénico.
Esta película nos hace pensar que Neve se está volviendo loca ya que muchas veces suele ver un hombre negro merodeando y cuando de repente voltean los demás, el hombre ya no está, pero ese hombre es uno de los secretos de su pasado que se ha encargado de ocultar, su llegada hace que la vida perfecta de Neve empiece a desmoronarse.
I feel like this movie was strange to watch but at the same time it's not that bad, I would say that it wasn't that predictable, and I liked that, thrillers are one of the genres that I can almost never go wrong with, I love that whole game. mental that makes your mind explode, become confused, feel stressed and frustrated. This movie brings those emotions to us viewers, I think it is a good option if we are looking for something to entertain ourselves.
Siento que esta película fue rara de ver pero al mismo tiempo no es tan mala, diría que no fue tan predecible, y eso me gustó, los thriller son uno de los géneros con los que casi nunca me puede equivocar, me encanta todo ese juego mental que hace tu mente explotar, confundirse, sentirte estresado y frustrado. Esta película trae esas emociones a nosotros los espectadores, creo que es una buena opción si buscamos algo para entretenernos.
Con el titulo que le estoy dando a la reseña sin querer terminó siendo una especie de juego de palabras y es que en español este film se llama "Los Extraños". El detalle es que nada tiene que ver una cosa con la otra porque la realidad es que es una película muy rara al punto de que mientras escribo estas palabras no se si me gustó o no como tampoco se que calificación darle; esto último aunque no tenga ningún valor siento que los pueden ayudar a ubicarse mejor en caso de que no hayan visto nada pero por primera vez creo que no habrá apreciación final. Cuando decido ver este film que está un poco en el mainstream pensaba encontrarme con un suspenso promedio, no fue así, o si? - es que no lo se, de verdad y esto es gracias al final, si ya la viste sabrás de que hablo.

The detail is that one thing has nothing to do with the other because the reality is that it is a very strange film to the point that as I write these words I do not know if I liked it or not and I do not know what rating to give it; the latter although it has no value I feel that it can help you to locate better in case you have not seen anything but for the first time I think there will be no final appreciation. When I decide to see this film that is a bit in the mainstream I thought I would find an average suspense, it wasn't like that, or was it? - I really don't know, and this is thanks to the ending, if you have already seen it you will know what I'm talking about.
Cuando cierras una película la idea es que dicha conclusión genere algún tipo de emoción, para bien o para mal. En este caso el final se supone que tenía que generar algo en mi pero terminó produciendo un sentimiento totalmente opuesto, de ahí mi reacción un poco dudosa y de sorpresa. Pero ojo, la película es bastante entretenida, es un suspenso/drama que puede que tenga unas ligeras vibras al film de Peele "Get Out" pero con un trasfondo un poco más retorcido quizás. Nos habla un poco de traumas que no fueron resueltos, de querer ser alguien que en esencia no se es y de que como muchas veces no se puede escapar del pasado. Pero bueno, entremos más de lleno con este extraño film.
When you close a movie the idea is for the conclusion to generate some kind of emotion, for better or worse. In this case the ending was supposed to generate something in me but ended up producing a totally opposite feeling, hence my somewhat hesitant and surprised reaction. But be warned, the movie is quite entertaining, it's a suspense/drama that may have some slight vibes to Peele's film "Get Out" but with a bit more twisted undertone perhaps. It tells us a bit about unresolved traumas, about wanting to be someone you're not and how you often can't escape the past. But well, let's go deeper into this strange film.

Como comienzan a salir a la luz? - pues con la llegada de un par de personas al vecindario que siempre parecen estar cerca de ella, lugar a donde Neve vaya, lugar en donde esta mujer y este hombre estarán para hacerse notar.

Ya la trama nos irá llevando a conocer quienes son estas personas, porque están allí y por qué son tan extrañas. Lo que Neve no sabe es que su vida de cuentos de hada estará a punto de derrumbarse cual torre de cartas porque como ya dije, del pasado no se puede escapar y que las mentiras tienen patas cortas. Que el drama, la intriga y sobre todo el suspenso comiencen para la familia Williams.

Es un film con una vibra muy rara al punto que hay varios pasajes en donde se hace muy incomodo ver porque no entiendes que está pasando y por la actitud de la protagonista. En principio Neve parece una mujer común y corriente pero a medida que va avanzando la historia van saliendo a la luz ciertas maneras de actuar un tanto perturbadoras y desencajadas que le dan un toque siniestro extra a todo. NO ES TERROR. Con este film ocurre lo que ya es costumbre, que a todo le quieren poner la etiqueta de este genero cuando no es así, nada más alejado de la realidad. Si que es un drama que va muy de la mano con su suspenso en ciertos momentos inquietante, nada exagerado ni extraordinario pero si, hay un toque por ahí que hace la película tenga "algo".

With this film happens what is already customary, that to everything they want to put the label of this genre when it is not, nothing further from reality. It is a drama that goes hand in hand with its suspense in some disturbing moments, nothing exaggerated or extraordinary but yes, there is a touch that makes the film has "something".
En lo personal no me aburrí porque esa duda de saber que es lo que verdaderamente está detrás de todo es algo que te motiva a seguir viendo, de allí a que sea muy entretenida, por lo menos esa parte la cumple. Una vez se descubre todo comienza otra etapa donde la incertidumbre creo que aumenta ligeramente porque no queda muy claro que es lo que quieren estas personas, en realidad si sabe que quieren, pero es su forma para conseguirlo y sus comportamientos lo que termina de encajar. No todo es color de rosas, siento que hubo actuaciones sobre actuadas, hubo un hecho en concreto al cual no le vi el sentido alguno y lo más importante, es una película que no te deja conforme del todo o si, depende de tu forma de ver las cosas.
Personally I did not get bored because that doubt of knowing what is really behind everything is something that motivates you to keep watching, hence it is very entertaining, at least that part is fulfilled. Once everything is discovered another stage begins where the uncertainty I think increases slightly because it is not very clear what these people want, actually if you know what they want, but it is their way to get it and their behaviors that ends up fitting. Not everything is rosy, I feel that there were over acted performances, there was a particular fact to which I did not see any sense and most importantly, it is a film that does not leave you completely satisfied or yes, it depends on your way of seeing things.
El film tiene una carga traumática importante, de hecho es el epicentro de todo y es que es el entorno familiar lo que más afectado se verá porque es un trauma que se viene cargando y ocultando durante años. Veremos como puede ser la actitud de una persona totalmente desconectada de la realidad, yo diría que sin ningún tipo de apego ni emociones y el como eso afecta su entorno y a ella misma. Solo por ese punto la historia es un poco interesante, tiene un gancho que creo que es lo que hace que las personas no la dejen de ver a mitad del tiempo, nunca pensé en quitarla pero entendería que si haya alguien que lo haga y es que vuelvo a repetir, todavía estoy descifrando si el film me gustó o no.
The film has an important traumatic load, in fact it is the epicenter of everything and it is the family environment that will be most affected because it is a trauma that has been carrying and hiding for years. We will see how can be the attitude of a person totally disconnected from reality, I would say without any kind of attachment or emotions and how that affects her environment and herself. Just for that point the story is a bit interesting, it has a hook that I think is what makes people not stop watching it half the time, I never thought of removing it but I would understand if there is someone who does and is that I repeat again, I'm still deciphering if I liked the film or not.
Los personajes. Honestamente no tengo mucho que decir más allá de Ashley, la protagonista. Creo que hizo un trabajo decente y una actuación bastante aceptable. Se podía ver en su lenguaje corporal el miedo, la angustia, las reacciones al trauma antes mencionado, el fingir querer se alguien totalmente distinto; la verdad es que si resalto su interpretación. De resto nada que resaltar. Hubo para mi una actuacion muy de mentira, la de Dione para ser más especifico. No me creí en ningún momento su papel ni su actuar, lo noté muy falso y sobre actuado todo. Es una percepción muy personal esa pero si, me costó verla en pantalla.
Characters. I honestly don't have much to say beyond Ashley, the main character. I thought she did a decent job and a pretty decent performance. You could see in her body language the fear, the anguish, the reactions to the aforementioned trauma, the pretending to want to be someone totally different; the truth is that her performance stood out. Otherwise nothing to highlight. There was for me a very fake performance, Dione's to be more specific. I didn't believe at any moment her role or her acting, I felt it was very fake and over acted. It's a very personal perception but yes, it was hard to see her on screen.
No le tengo calificación alguna. Y esto no es malo ni bueno sino que simplemente no hayo un criterio contundente para hacerlo. El final amigos, el final es la guinda del pastel, es lo que hará y forjará, con suerte, sus opiniones respecto a este film. Muy personalmente me dejó un poco descolocado, literalmente sin palabras. Te la recomiendo? - si. Y lo hago para que sientas el cierre de la historia. A lo mejor te gusta, a lo mejor la odias, yo estoy en un punto medio, en un limbo el cual es muy raro que caiga en el. Está en Netflix y dura un poco más de hora y media. Les dejo el tráiler para que le echen un vistazo.
I have no qualification whatsoever. And this is neither bad nor good, I just don't have a strong criterion to do so. The ending folks, the ending is the icing on the cake, it's what will make and forge, hopefully, your opinions regarding this film. Very personally, it left me a little bit unsettled, literally speechless. Do I recommend it? - Yes. And I do so in order for you to feel the closure of the story. Maybe you like it, maybe you hate it, I'm somewhere in the middle, in a limbo which is very rare for me to fall into. It's on Netflix and it's a little over an hour and a half long. En estos días de gripe, sin ánimos de nada me apetecía ver una película que hiciera despertar mis sentidos, por eso siempre las películas de suspensos o thriller son una buena opción. Pero antes de empezar hablar de la película en sí, hacemos de información técnica. Es una película dirigida con Nathaniel Martello-White y también fue quien hizo el guion, en los productores contamos con Valentina Brazzini, Tristan Goligher, Rob Watson, en la parte del elenco las actuaciones de Ashley Madekwe (Neve/Cheryl), Jorden Myrie (Marvin), Bukky Bakray (Abigail), Samuel Paul Small (Sebastian), Justin Salinger (Ian) entre otros actores.
In these days of flu, I felt like watching a movie that would awaken my senses, that's why suspense or thriller movies are always a good choice. But before we start talking about the film itself, let's do some technical information. It is a film directed by Nathaniel Martello-White who also wrote the script, in the producers we have Valentina Brazzini, Tristan Goligher, Rob Watson, in the cast we have Ashley Madekwe (Neve/Cheryl), Jorden Myrie (Marvin), Bukky Bakray (Abigail), Samuel Paul Small (Sebastian), Justin Salinger (Ian) among other actors.
Bueno la historia como dice trata de una mujer que debe estar en sus cuarenta y algo, la cual tiene una familia perfecta pero las cosas no son como parece, con esta sinopsis me atrapo y puedo decir que va por lo mismo, al principio vemos como ella aparenta ser alguien que no es un ejemplo de ello es que practica como va hablar u oculta su verdadero cabello, desde un principio vemos señales de que es una falsa de vida y como siempre he visto que es una apariencia por fuera pero su familia es un infierno, así que fue sorprende que no es así aquí, el problema era ella.

He de decir que sentía que la mujer tenía algún trauma grave, como en la introducción vemos que ella tiene que dejar su vida pasada y ella la destierra, juraba que estaba alucinando, algo que no aguante es que era muy racial la película y como no entendía nada se me hacía muy insoportable la actitud de Neve, controladora, perfeccionista y sobre todo muy falsa. Todo el tiempo que el hoy hablar sentí que está viendo alguien muy hipócrita y en lo corta que es la película puedo decir que le agarre rabia por sus actitudes y de cierta manera eso habla muy bien de la actriz.
I must say that I felt that the woman had some serious trauma, as in the introduction we see that she has to leave her past life and she banishes it, I swore I was hallucinating, something that I could not stand is that the film was very racial and as I did not understand anything it was very unbearable Neve's attitude, controlling, perfectionist and above all very false. All the time he was talking today I felt that I was watching someone very hypocritical and in the short film I can say that I got angry for his attitudes and in a way that speaks very well of the actress.
No mentiré, me aburrió los primeros treinta minuto, sentía que nada tenía sentido y en vez de emocionarme por la intriga lo que hacía era estresarme. Solo todo cobro sentido (escenas que no entendí) cuando de la boca de un personaje salió una sagrada palabra y los flashback aparecieron puedo jurar que es la parte más interesante y intrigante de la película. Por eso cuando paso retomo mi interés, pero las escenas posteriores fueron un poco de mi decepción y no fue por la película si no por las decisiones de Neve (que me hicieron odiarla más).
I won't lie, I was bored for the first thirty minutes, I felt that nothing made sense and instead of being excited by the intrigue what it did was stress me out. It only made sense (scenes I didn't understand) when a holy word came out of a character's mouth and the flashbacks appeared, I can swear it's the most interesting and intriguing part of the movie. That's why when it happened I was interested again, but the later scenes were a bit of my disappointment and it wasn't because of the movie but because of Neve's decisions (which made me hate her more).
No quiero hablar más de lo que debería, porque solo un punto interesante tiene esta filmación si la develo siento que no vale la pena verla, pero he de decir que tanto Neve esta traumada con su pasado, tanto que todo lo relacionado con lo negro y las personas de color es como alergia para ella por otro lado los otros dos personajes tiene razón de tener sus traumas ya que lo reflejan en su actitud y en ciertos diálogos en lo que podemos observar su rencor y tristeza, siento que si no fuera por Marvin y Abigail el suspenso no existiera.
I do not want to talk more than I should, because only one interesting point has this film if I reveal it I feel it is not worth watching, but I must say that both Neve is traumatized with her past, so much that everything related to black and colored people is like allergy for her on the other hand the other two characters are right to have their traumas as they reflect it in their attitude and in certain dialogues in which we can see their resentment and sadness, I feel that if it were not for Marvin and Abigail the suspense would not exist.
El final fue irónico y no me dio miedo, de cierta manera me pareció bastante bochornoso. Neve me pareció tan mala madre uy no, por eso no pude empatizar con nada de a película a pesar de la escenografía y la cámara quería que lo hicieras (como el momento donde ella vomito por los nervios), le doy un 4/10 si lo guionistas quisiesen podrían sacar secuela de esta entrega pero ojala que no lo hagan, bueno eso fue todo, gracias cinéfilos.
The ending was ironic and not scary, in a way I found it quite embarrassing. Neve seemed so bad mother uy no, so I could not empathize with anything in the movie despite the scenery and the camera wanted you to do it (like the moment where she vomited from nerves), I give it a 4/10 if the screenwriters wanted to make a sequel to this installment but hopefully they do not, well that was all, thanks moviegoers.
