I had pending to watch this series that I overlooked when its first season premiered. Time passed and the seasons piled up. This has happened to me with several series. It is a very successful series, but having already five seasons aired, I was lazy to watch it, as I knew it would take me a long time.
I tried to watch it a few months ago, when another user posted a review about this saga. At that time I couldn't finish the first episode. My mood is an important factor when it comes to watching a new series and at that time I didn't want to get into another family drama full of betrayals. So I waited until I was in the mood to watch it and boy did I like it.
Taylor Shridan is a great storyteller. He is a talented screenwriter who has also dabbled in directing. I have yet to write about Wind River, a film he wrote and directed. The filmmaker wrote the screenplays for Sicario and its sequel. I also recommend you see Hell or High Water, written by Sheridan and directed by David Mkenzie.
Yellostone is just that, a Neo Wenstern in which Sheridan demonstrates his ability to captivate the viewer with a combination of ingredients that is hard to resist. The score may not be perfect. There are several things that annoyed me about the five seasons I've seen, but there are others that hook.
Taylor Sheridan is from Texas, so you can tell he has a passion for the modern western. He's touched on it in several of his scripts and with Yellowstone he got it right. Even he, who is also an actor, has appearances in some episodes, playing Travis.

A land that belonged to the Native Americans who now live on the reservation. It is a series of men with hair on their chests. Rugged. Country people. Authentic cowboys. Foul-mouthed and smelling of cattle shit from working all day, sweating and getting dusty. Cowboys who suffer in silence and put up with harassment and don't go around whining ridiculously. The macho vernacular archetype, where Jhon Dutton is the boss, the boss of bosses, who everyone respects and fears. A straight white male of the concrete generation. So I don't think this series is very appealing to the porcelain generation. Whoever goes in to work at Yellowstone Ranch, comes out transformed into a mere male. I like Jimmy's story arc as he goes from a wimpy delinquent to a cowboy who conquers beautiful women.
The scenery is another element I loved about the series. Set in the state of Montana. It's a visual treat to enjoy the photography and those sequences. Even though I'm a city person who doesn't like to live in the country, I like to see those landscapes in movies and TV series. Horses, hats, country music, plaid shirts, etc, don't appeal to me in real life, but I like to see it on the screen. I couldn't be a cowboy, I can't stand the smell of manure from horses, cows, bulls, etc.
La saga de la familia Dutton es apasionante. Familia, secretos, ambición, peleas, traumas, vaqueros, caballos, ganado, atardeceres espectaculares, sangre, violencia y mucha muerte. Vaqueros que sufren en silencio y que aguantan el acoso y no van por ahí lloriqueando ridículamente. El arquetipo machista vernáculo, donde Jhon Dutton es el jefe, el jefe de jefes, al que todos respetan y temen. Un hombre blanco heterosexual de la generación del hormigón. Así que no creo que esta serie sea muy atractiva para la generación porcelana. Quien entra a trabajar en el rancho Yellowstone, sale transformado en un mero macho. Me gusta el arco argumental de Jimmy, que pasa de ser un delincuente debilucho a un vaquero que conquista mujeres hermosas.
Los paisajes es otro elemento que me encantó de la serie. Ambientada en el estado de Montana. Es un placer visual disfrutar de la fotografía y de esas secuencias. Aunque soy una persona de ciudad a la que no le gusta vivir en el campo, me gusta ver esos paisajes en las películas y series de televisión. Los caballos, los sombreros, la música country, las camisas de cuadros, etc, no me atraen en la vida real, pero me gusta verlo en la pantalla. No podría ser vaquero, no soporto el olor a estiércol de caballos, vacas, toros, etc.
The first two seasons are the best. The first one, because it establishes the bases and codes of the Dutton universe. There is plenty of violence and decent action scenes. The Dutton's opponents are up to the task and it's a test of power of who has the biggest balls. The third season is the one I enjoyed the least, the romance in that season is too much, the new enemies weren't that threatening and I found it very heavy handed, but it leaves a great cliffhanger. The fourth season does rebound, although it maintains some flaws, as it is not perfect. The fifth season gives some fresh air with John's new political position, although it gives the feeling that the story should end. I hope that the sixth season will be the definitive closure.
The most notable flaw in the series is that not all the subplots are good. I have my favorite subplots and ones I would love to see more of. I love the flashbacks, where John is played by Josh Lucas, who manages to even mimic Costner's tone of voice. The stories of the cowboys, Lloyd, Jimmy, Ryan and the others whose names I can't remember. They are likeable characters. Watching them work, have fun, live together and fight. Jhon Dutton, with Kevin Costner filling the screen with his presence. He is the big star of the series and he sure doesn't want anyone to overshadow him.
The character I like the most is Beth, played by Kelly Reilly. My favorite character and an excellent performance by the actress. Beth is a big motherfucker, ready to take anyone by force. A smart, violent and vindictive woman. She is the one who should keep all the land, even if it is to sell it later. She is completely loyal to her father. She has her traumas from the past, but nothing will make her betray John, just as nothing will make her change her mind about her brother Jamie.
My other favorite character is Rip. John's right hand man who has a turbulent relationship with Beth. Another person loyal to John Dutton. Someone he would never betray. I think he would rather die than betray his boss. All of that has its justification and we find out in depth in each season. As does Beth's opinion of Jamie. Everyone has a motive.
Everyone will have their favorite characters, but let's not forget that they're all scumbags. Many of them are killers, bullies and do very bad things. We'll empathize with them, but deep down they're sons of bitches.
Las dos primeras temporadas son las mejores. La primera , porque establece las bases y códigos del universo de los Dutton. Hay mucha violencia y escenas de acción decentes. Los oponentes de los Dutton están a la altura y es una prueba de poder de quien tiene las pelotas mas grandes. La tercera temporada es la que menos disfruté, el romance en esa temporada es demasiado, los nuevos enemigos no eran tan amenazantes y me pareció muy pesada, pero deja un gran cliffhanger. La cuarta temporada si remonta, aunque mantiene algunos defectos, ya que no es perfecta. La quinta temporada da un poco de aire fresco con la nueva posición política de John, aunque da la sensación de que la historia debería terminar. Espero que la sexta temporada sea el cierre definitivo.
El defecto más notable de la serie es que no todas las subtramas son buenas. Tengo mis subtramas favoritas y de las que me encantaría ver más. Me encantan los flashbacks, donde John es interpretado por Josh Lucas, que consigue imitar incluso el tono de voz de Costner. Las historias de los vaqueros, Lloyd, Jimmy, Ryan y los demás de los que no recuerdo el nombre. Son personajes simpáticos. Verlos trabajar, divertirse, convivir y luchar. El personaje que más me gusta es Beth, interpretado por Kelly Reilly. Mi personaje favorito y una excelente interpretación de la actriz. Beth es una gran hija de puta, dispuesta a llevarse por delante a quien sea. Una mujer inteligente, violenta y vengativa. Ella es la que debe quedarse con todas las tierras, aunque sea para venderlas después. Es completamente leal a su padre. Tiene sus traumas del pasado, pero nada la hará traicionar a John, como nada la hará cambiar de opinión sobre su hermano Jamie.
Mi otro personaje favorito es Rip. La mano derecha de John que tiene una relación turbulenta con Beth. Otra persona leal a John Dutton. Alguien a quien nunca traicionaría. What I hate about the series are some of the subplots. For example, anything to do with Monica, Kaicey Dutton's Indian wife, is to fall asleep. I hate the nuances of that character. Especially in the early seasons. She's the most leftist character in the series. It's also true that Kaicey is John's spoiled brat, but he's the Dutton who attracts the trouble. It is incredible the amount of trouble he gets into, he is like a magnet to generate conflict, everything happens to him. His mission is to get into trouble. Jamie Dutton is John's other son, the lawyer with big political aspirations. A very idiotic character, who everyone manipulates at their whim. It's sad, this wimp. He thinks he is so smart, but any woman who gives him a kiss manipulates him and also other characters who use him. Let's hope this character's fate is a train ride.
The filming of the sixth and last season (I hope) has already started, but without Kevin Costner. There are problems, the star wants more money, they haven't reached an agreement, he's focused on promoting the mega western he presented at Cannes recently. Let's hope they come to a damn agreement, otherwise they'll have to come up with something where his character dies. I think the series will survive one last season without its main star. We want to see her kids destroy each other. It worked in Succession, it can work here too. Adding flashback with the other actor.

Lo que odio de la serie son algunas de las subtramas. Por ejemplo, todo lo que tenga que ver con Monica, la mujer india de Kaicey Dutton, es para dormirse. Odio los matices de ese personaje. Sobre todo en las primeras temporadas. Es el personaje más izquierdista de la serie. Tambien es cierto que Kaicey es el niño mimado de John, pero es el Dutton que atrae los problemas. Es increíble la cantidad de líos en los que se mete, es como un iman para generar conflicto, le pasa de todo. Su misión es meterse en líos. Me gustaba el personaje cuando trabajaba como oficial de ganado, pero cuando se le da demasiado tiempo para el romance o la introspección, es bastante tedioso.
Jamie Dutton es el otro hijo de John, el abogado con grandes aspiraciones politicas. Un personaje muy idiota, que todos manipulan a su antojo. Es triste este pelele. Se cree muy listo, pero cualquier mujer que le da un beso le manipula y también otros personajes que le utilizan. Esperemos que el destino de este personaje sea un viaje en tren.
El rodaje de la sexta y última temporada (espero) ya ha comenzado, pero sin Kevin Costner. Hay problemas, la estrella quiere más dinero, no han llegado a un acuerdo, está centrado en promocionar el mega western que presentó en Cannes recientemente. Esperemos que lleguen a un maldito acuerdo, si no tendrán que inventar algo en lo que su personaje muera. Creo que la serie sobrevivirá una última temporada sin su estrella principal.
