Silo Season 2 Review: A Masterclass in Dystopian Sci-Fi

Review by @danielcarrerag 🏆#99 🔥1 🎵11 🎬89 📺89 · 1h · of Silo · 1 view

One of the shows that currently has me completely hooked is Silo. Season 3 is currently airing with new episodes every Friday on Apple TV+. However, I just finished season 2, and I loved it; without a doubt, it’s one of the best post-apocalyptic series I’ve seen in a long time.

The plot of Silo follows Juliette Nichols, played by Rebecca Ferguson, who lives in a deep underground silo in what appears to be a dystopian future. The silo houses 10,000 people, and everyone fulfills a necessary role to keep society running. There is a clear hierarchy, complete with an elected mayor, a judge, a sheriff, and a head of IT.

Even though everything seems to work well on the surface, there are deep social divisions, discrimination, and endless secrets. The silo features a massive screen showing the outside world, which looks desolate and barren—going outside means death. People have been sent out before, but none survived, until Juliette manages to pull it off in season 2. She and her allies discover that the protective suits were intentionally compromised, allowing them to tweak hers so she could survive going outside.

If you haven't watched the first season yet, I recommend stopping here, as discussing season 2 inevitably means spoilers. Season 2 takes place with Juliette outside the silo, discovering that others exist and that, in one particular silo, the inhabitants are all dead outside. Upon entering, she learns it is Silo 17. It seems completely deserted until, after a bit of exploring, she realizes she isn't alone.

What makes this series so great is its storytelling, which constantly invites you to piece the puzzle together. In this new silo, the protagonist learns there is so much more to discover, and that her own silo is in danger of everyone dying as well. Getting back becomes her main priority, and events unfold amid mystery, intrigue, suspense, and a real sense of urgency, driven by a race against the clock.

The cast is excellent, featuring familiar faces alongside actors I’m seeing for the first time. One of the standout performances comes from Tim Robbins as Bernard Holland, the head of IT who seemed like the villain until halfway through the season, when things turn out to be more complex. Another great performance comes from Common as Robert Sims, the enforcer executing Bernard’s orders.

I love how the show uses the concept of having zero ties or memories of the past. Why do people live in the silo? Nobody knows. That’s the fun part—going episode by episode to uncover the truth is incredibly engaging. The mystery never gets tiresome because it’s balanced with plenty of action, rebellions, suspense, and drama, keeping you hooked as you connect the dots. I highly recommend it; definitely check it out. I’ll be back soon with my review of season 3!

A third season? I saw the first season and it was average for me. I loved the story telling and how everything unravel towards the end. I didn't know the series had progressed into a third season. I hope to watch the second season soon and see how it goes for me. I enjoyed reading your review. !discovery
