El día ha llegado, por fin el 27 de marzo está aquí y eso es sinónimo de que los premios Oscars están a tan solo horas de su gala. Ha sido un viaje increíble a través de las películas nominadas, tengo que decir que me faltaron por ver dos de ellas: Licorice Pizza y Drive my car ya que la decisión de ver CODA el día de ayer estuvo estuvo bastante apretada. Basicamente me decidí por esta por todo el ruido que en los últimos días ha estado generando dada su posibilidad de que pueda dar la sorpresa y llevarse el premio a la mejor película.

The day has arrived, finally March 27th is here and that means that the Oscars are only hours away from their gala. It has been an incredible journey through the nominated films, I have to say that I missed two of them: Licorice Pizza and Drive my car since the decision to see CODA yesterday was pretty tight. Basically I decided for this one because of all the noise it has been generating in the last few days due to the possibility that it could surprise and win the award for best film.

Es posible esa hazaña? - bueno amigos, en este mundo nada parece ser raro ya por lo que si, veo posible que se lleve la estatuilla como también veo posible que se la lleve BELFAST, que ya hablamos de ella por acá. Pero la realidad es que la gran favorita sigue siendo THE POWER OF THE DOG, su nivel de cinematografía es muy superior aunque las historias de estas dos sean mucho más cautivadoras. Pero bueno, a lo que vinimos, hablemos un poco de este film que les digo desde ya es muy bonito.

Is such a feat possible? - Well friends, in this world nothing seems to be rare anymore, so yes, I see it possible that it takes the statuette as I also see it possible that it takes BELFAST, which we already talked about it here. But the reality is that the great favorite is still THE POWER OF THE DOG, its cinematography level is far superior although the stories of these two are much more captivating. But well, what we came to, let's talk a little bit about this film that I tell you from now on is very nice.

Esta ha sido una de las historias que más me han gustado y con la que más cerca he estado de echar una lagrima, esto lo digo porque no tiene que ser motivo de vergüenza, si la película y la trama son así de buenas y sentidas no hay ningún problema con eso. En esta oportunidad estamos ante la familia Rossi, una que es enteramente sorda menos su hija Ruby (Emilia Jones) quien es la que los ayuda con todo lo referente al negocio familiar de la pesca. Siempre antes de ir al colegio se va con su padre y su hermano a pescar pasa así lograr mantener el negocio en pie y poder lógicamente manejar adecuadamente el bote en el mar.

This has been one of the stories that I have liked the most and with which I have been closer to shedding a tear, I say this because it does not have to be a reason for shame, if the film and the plot are that good and heartfelt there is no problem with that. In this opportunity we are before the Rossi family, one that is entirely deaf except for their daughter Ruby (Emilia Jones) who is the one who helps them with everything related to the family fishing business. Always before going to school she goes fishing with her father and brother to keep the business going and to be able to manage the boat at sea.

Pero esa no es la vida que Ruby aspira para su futuro, a ella lo que le apasiona es el canto, algo que una de las más grandes y bellas ironías del mundo dada la discapacidad de su familia, por lo que decide apuntarse en el coro del colegio. A pesar de sus inseguridades logra convencer a su profesor Bernardo Villalobos (Eugenio Derbez) y juntos comienzan un viaje que puede que la lleve a lo más alto de la música. Pero aún Ruby tiene que tomar la decisión más importante de su vida, seguir ayudando a su familia o perseguir su sueño.

But that is not the life Ruby aspires for her future, she is passionate about singing, something that is one of the greatest and most beautiful ironies in the world given her family's disability, so she decides to join the school choir. Despite her insecurities, she manages to convince her teacher Bernardo Villalobos (Eugenio Derbez) and together they begin a journey that may lead her to the top in music. But Ruby still has to make the most important decision of her life, whether to continue helping her family or pursue her dream.

Como dije esta es una de las historias que más he disfrutado ver de principio a fin por lo amena y por el mensaje que busca transmitir. Es un drama pero con muchos tintes de comedia los cuales, en mi muy humilde opinión, siempre harán una buena combinación. Esa dualidad de por un momento estar a punto de llorar para después y de la nada venga un pasaje extremadamente cómico que te hace reír a carcajadas son de las cosas maravillosas que están presente en CODA, que para aquellos que no lo sepan es el acrónimo de (Child of deaf adults).

As I said, this is one of the stories that I have enjoyed watching from beginning to end because of how enjoyable it is and the message it seeks to convey. It is a drama but with many tinges of comedy which, in my humble opinion, will always make a good combination. That duality of for a moment being on the verge of crying and then out of nowhere comes an extremely comical passage that makes you laugh out loud are some of the wonderful things that are present in CODA, which for those who don't know is the acronym for (Child of deaf adults).

Reconozco que no tenía intenciones de ver este film pero ahora agradezco haber tomado la decisión de decidir verla porque la verdad es una película que vale mucho la pena ver. El mensaje principal es claramente la inclusión de las personas con cualquier tipo de discapacidad sin ningún tipo de prejuicios pero yo le agregaría otro y es la persecución de los sueños. Tener un sueño y luchar por él es de las cosas más gratificantes y complicadas también que pueden existir y para muestra a vida de Ruby. Es saber quien eres y lo que quieres sin importar el que.

I admit that I had no intention of seeing this film but now I am thankful that I made the decision to see it because it is a film that is really worth seeing. The main message is clearly the inclusion of people with any type of disability without any prejudice but I would add another one and that is the pursuit of dreams. Having a dream and fighting for it is one of the most rewarding and complicated things that can exist and for example Ruby's life. It's knowing who you are and what you want no matter what.

El nivel de actuación que vemos acá es impresionante tanto que ya se llevaron un premio como mejor reparto por parte de Sindicato de Actores. A Emilia yo la conocía por su participación en la serie Locke & Key la cual y por la naturaleza de la misma nunca me di cuenta de sus dotes de actriz. Ahora, cuando ven lo que hace en esta película es muy impresionante porque todo el film recae sobre sus hombros. Ella tiene la capacidad de ser muy buena con el drama pero la cosa es que es genuinamente graciosa por lo que las dos caras de la moneda las maneja muy bien, además de que está ayudada por grandes actores.

The level of acting we see here is so impressive that they already won an award for best cast from the Screen Actors Guild. I knew Emilia from her participation in the series Locke & Key which, due to the nature of the series, I never realized her acting skills. Now, when you see what she does in this film it is very impressive because the whole film rests on her shoulders. She has the ability to be very good with drama but the thing is she is genuinely funny so both sides of the coin she handles very well, plus she is aided by great actors.

El padre de Ruby, Frank (Troy Kotsur) favorito para llevarse el Oscar a mejor actor de reparto y quien ya se ha llevado unos cuantos premios, es otro cuya actuación es sublime. He visto pocas películas con actores sordos pero tengo que decir que transmiten igual y hasta más a la hora de actuar. Es un personaje con el que muchos pueden empatizar por todo el contexto dentro de la trama, el padre de familia que es terco pero lo único que quiere es la estabilidad de los suyos y hará todo lo posible para conseguirlo.

Ruby's father, Frank (Troy Kotsur) favorite to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and who has already won a few awards, is another whose performance is sublime. I have seen few films with deaf actors but I have to say that they convey the same and even more when it comes to acting. It is a character that many can empathize with because of the whole context within the plot, the father of a family who is stubborn but the only thing he wants is the stability of his family and will do everything possible to achieve it.

Pero si estamos hablando de personajes no puede dejar de pasar a la revelación de este film, el mexicano Eugenio Derbez. A él estamos acostumbrados a verlo en papeles cómicos ya que es un comediante pero verlo aquí en uno mucho más serio fue una grata sorpresa. Claro, la esencia de lo que es él realmente nunca se pierde, pero sin dudas es un personaje mucho más sobrio y centrado el cual nos demuestra lo buen actor que es. Porque si, a pesar de ser comediante es un muy gran actor, les recomiendo que vean "No Se Aceptan Devoluciones", una gran película. Gran acierto de la inclusión de Eugenio al elenco, realmente brilló en esta historia.

But if we are talking about characters, you can't miss the revelation of this film, the Mexican Eugenio Derbez. We are used to seeing him in comic roles since he is a comedian but seeing him here in a much more serious one was a pleasant surprise. Of course, the essence of who he really is is never lost, but without a doubt it is a much more sober and focused character which shows us how good an actor he is. Because yes, despite being a comedian he is a great actor, I recommend you to see "No Returns Accepted", a great movie. Eugenio's inclusion to the cast was a great success, he really shined in this story.

Que más les puedo decir? - todavía están a tiempo de ver esta joya de película antes de los premios y si no pueden no importa, véanla mañana o el fin de semana que viene pero no dejen de hacerlo. Para mi supuso un gran descubierto, si había leído un poco las criticas pero nunca pensé que me fuera a gustar de la forma en la que lo hizo. Actuaciones estelares, una historia muy sensible que llegará a los corazones de todos lo que la vea y sobretodo el mensaje o moraleja que no es otro que la empatía hacia las demás personas.

What else can I tell you? - You still have time to see this gem of a movie before the awards and if you can't, it doesn't matter, see it tomorrow or next weekend but don't miss it. For me it was a great discovery, yes I had read the reviews a bit but I never thought I would like it the way it did. Stellar performances, a very sensitive story that will touch the hearts of everyone who sees it and above all the message or moral that is none other than empathy towards other people.

Un solido 8/10 por todo lo dicho anteriormente. Es un film que no tiene pérdida alguna. Tiene una duración de un poco menos de dos horas y lo pueden ver en las plataformas de Amazon Prime y Apple Tv. Les dejo el tráiler como ya es costumbre. Espero sinceramente que la disfruten tal y como lo hice yo.
