Hola amigos, buenas vibras para todos.
**Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Zoe Saldaña, Laysla de Oliveira, Nicole Kidman, Michael Kelly and Morgan Freeman are some of the big names that make life in this production that is giving a lot to talk about. And yes, apparently and unconsciously, I'm still with the idea of seeing things that have to do with the war theme except that this time there is much more drama than I expected, so yes, we are facing a story that covers a military operation within which there are a couple of huge dramas built that can get to compromise everything. It is a reality that I started watching the series because of the cast it has, if you get to see it it is crazy and it must be said that it is indeed everything you expect at the acting level and even more.
It is a series that has a lot of espionage, American foreign policy (as you can not miss), has quite good war and action material but most importantly and as I said, the drama; in fact if you look for the genre you will realize that it is the main one. But it is not a slow and boring drama, in fact there are a couple, the first is tied to the military operation as such, things happen that may twist the fate of everything and the second is a family one involving one of the protagonists, I see this as an extra to make everything look more complicated to carry, that the life of a military or agent is not so rosy. But well, without further ado, let's talk a little about what this new installment is.
Operation Lioness is a real program employed by the CIA where they train women to infiltrate terrorist cells and thus find the whereabouts of major U.S. targets. Having said that, we have Laysla De Oliveira (Cruz Manuelos), a woman with a difficult past who by fate ended up in the offices of a Marine facility. Her determination and character made her one of the most complete soldiers that have passed through the infantry corps. For all this she is chosen for a mission, a mission carried out by the Lioness team of the CIA and whose boss is Joe (Zoe Saldaña), another extremely tough woman both physically and mentally. The detail is that she has a family and as in every family there are problems which will put her to the test in the middle of one of the most important operations of the United States.
After being trained hard Cruz embarks on the mission, one that over time and for reasons you wouldn't think she would find extremely difficult to maintain her position, all thanks to Aaliyah Amrohi (Stefanie Nur). Here what matters is how the great power structures of the USA manage the world and therefore control almost everything that happens. The series is a reflection of what one assumes is what happens when there is a crisis that touches some interest for Americans, because if there is something certain friends is that the United States work and work only to have covered their personal interests. We will see then how everything is getting complicated, how the snowball is growing while the dramas are getting bigger and bigger.
The mix between the apparent action and adrenaline that involves being and planning a military operation with the drama I think is one of the best combinations that can be because they push you to not stop watching the series, that with each chapter you keep wanting to keep watching (I watched this series in two days) because the tension and expect the unexpected is something that is always present. As the story develops, the characters and their relationships are developing, we will see how Cruz gets into trouble by being infiltrated and we will see how Joe has to deal with that as leader and boss while at the same time it seems that his house is collapsing because he is absent for so long. As you can see there are many problems to deal with and all this happens while chasing a terrorist.
As I said the plot never lets its arms down, at times we are immersed in everyday problems and then we have to be aware of some change in the operation that makes everything more stressful. There is action, yes, military incursions, the series starts like that and is a good opener, the whole process and conversations before and during the operation is very addictive which makes us fall into the bureaucracy of the men in suits and power. I assure you that you will not get bored with this story, it has all the elements that make it a top notch dramatic thriller with those dashes of shooting, explosions, fights and training that make it fast paced and zero heavy to watch.
As for the production, I was surprised by how well done it is, the person in charge of this series is Taylor Sheridan, nothing more and nothing less than the creator of Yellowstone and all its edges, so it was to be expected the great quality. I think that the most important added value of this series are its characters and the way in which they carried out the story. And I say this because even the secondary characters have some weight in the plot, they are relevant at some point and that's cool, it gives an interesting depth to everything. Even if you think the plot is linear, which to a certain extent it is, you will always expect something out of the box to happen and that's another magical thing about the series, they play with the "What if", there will always be room for the unpredictable.
Zoe Saldana is amazing, the versatility of this woman has no limits, she can be the softest and most tender but at the same time harder than a rock and that duality is very present in her character, personal and work situations will take her to the limit. I was very surprised by Laysla, she is in the series Locke & Key, that's why I recognized her. Here she is the main character but her role is tough and complicated, she goes through a lot of emotions at the same time and to see how she fights to not break down and always be the best is impressive. Not to mention how good she is when it comes to hand-to-hand combat. Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman are diplomatic characters, I thought I would see Freeman as the President of the United States again but nope. Sober and seamless characters, something very common in them. And watch out for Stefanie Nur, a key character in the series and that her participation will be vital, very good too.
A 9/10, I genuinely think it's one of the best I've seen this year so far, impeccable performances, an interesting story and a mix of genres that in the end turned out to be very good and addictive. There are 8 episodes of about 40 minutes each and it's available on Paramount+, it's a very top series. Here is the trailer.
