Recently, I started reflecting on the heavy burden Justin Bieber has carried for years regarding his appearance, his music, and his public controversies. He has been one of my favorite singers since my teenage years; I connected with him very quickly because back then, it was a total boom for an artist to emerge who came to be considered so big and talented, even though at the time he wasn't fully appreciated. On this occasion, I want to recommend one of my favorite albums by Justin: Purpose.
Purpose came out in 2015, a time when electronic music was at a major peak. Even though Justin hadn't deeply experimented with this genre before, this album features tracks that became extremely famous thanks to collaborations with electronic artists. As a concept album, it's one of his best following the previous releases that paved his way as an artist. I think it could be considered the record that made many people finally admit that he did have talent and made great music. It offers a wide variety of songs and even a deluxe edition; it is definitely one of those albums I would love to own physically.
To talk about the tracks, as the title suggests, the album is about the purpose Justin found in music from a more mature and even spiritual perspective. It consists of 13 songs that allow you to get a deeper look into Justin's thoughts during a more mature stage of his life, especially expressing his feelings regarding life as both a human being and an artist. Every song reflects how much he grew after his first major hits. Plus, it was backed by an incredible tour, even though it ultimately had to be postponed due to his own struggles with fame and addiction.
Speaking of my favorite tracks on this album, I first have to mention the title track, Purpose, in which he clearly speaks about his calling as a singer, but more importantly, as a human being. Justin has always been on a quest for his own well-being, and with this song, he shares a reflection of gratitude and spirituality, talking openly about having a greater purpose in life. It's a slow song that almost sounds like listening to a verse. It's slow yet beautiful, and I love how sincerely he speaks about how his connection with God helped him understand his purpose in this world and as an artist.
Another track I love is Life Is Worth Living. Ever since I first heard it, it moved something deep inside me. It is simply genuine and as close as it gets to hearing the right words, especially when we go through difficult times, depression, or feeling like life lacks meaning. It's also a slow song, but it goes straight to the heart. I remember crying a couple of times listening to it; it's beautiful, but it truly stirs up emotions. At times, it really helped me find my footing and look at life from a more grateful perspective. Whenever I go through tough moments and listen to it again, I am convinced it is one of Justin's finest songs.
The album also mixes tracks with electronic touches, such as Where Are Ü Now featuring Skrillex, Diplo, and Jack Ü. This song was a massive success and came with an incredible music video, especially because of how it was created with the help of fans. Each fan was able to contribute a design that was later included in the video; I feel it was a great way to connect with the audience and create something unique. Furthermore, this track opened doors for people who didn't usually listen to his music to start enjoying it, putting aside the idea that he was just a singer for teenage girls or just a pretty face. I feel like there isn't a party where this song isn't played; it has a great beat, and the collaboration was truly amazing.
There are other songs that are also well worth listening to, like No Pressure, Company, No Sense, Been You, and Get Used To It, which maintain a balance between pop, R&B, and electronic music. It also features tracks like Sorry, Mark My Words, I'll Show You, The Feeling, What Do You Mean, and Love Yourself. Most of the album blends these genres together, and I feel that what made this album so special—aside from Justin's honesty—was that he dared to try something different from what he had always done. The collaboration with Halsey on The Feeling is incredible; I love her as an artist, and I think it's one of my favorite songs on the record. I always wished it had a better music video, but the track was a huge success when the album came out and remains one I constantly have on repeat.
Purpose is an honestly well-crafted album, with a way of expressing emotions that lets you connect with Justin's music on a different level. Beyond his public persona, we get to see the challenges he faced, particularly regarding fame and spirituality. Whenever I feel down, I listen to parts of this album and reconnect with that version of myself that loves music regardless of the genre. Hola amigos amantes de la música, espero se encuentren muy bien. Hace poco me puse a reflexionar sobre el gran peso que Justin Bieber ha cargado durante años sobre su apariencia, su música y sus controversias públicas. El es uno de mis cantantes favoritos desde mi adolescencia, conecte muy rápido debido a que en esa época fue todo un Boom el que saliera un artista que llegara a considerarse tan grande y con tanto talento aunque en su momento no fue muy bien valorado. En esta ocasión les quiero recomendar uno de mis álbumes favoritos de Justin: Purpose.
Purpose salió en el año 2015, una época en la que la música electrónica tenía mucho auge y aunque Justin ni había experimentado con este género musical tan a profundidad, en este álbum refleja temas que se volvieron muy famosos debido a colaboraciones con artistas de este género musical. El álbum conceptual es uno de los mejores después de venir de otros que abrieron su camino como artista, creo que se podría considerar como el álbum que hizo que muchos admitieran que si tenía talento y que si hacía muy buena música. Tiene una variedad de canciones y hasta una versión deluxe del disco, es uno de los álbumes que me encantaría tener en físico.
Para hablar de las canciones el álbum como bien dice el título trata sobre el propósito que encontró Justin en la música, desde un lado más maduro y hasta espiritual. Tiene un total de 13 canciones que te hacen conocer más a fondo los pensamientos de Justin en una etapa más madura de su vida, sobre todo de una forma en la que expresa sus sentimientos con respecto a la vida como ser humano y como artista. Cada canción es un reflejo de lo mucho que mejoró luego de sus primeros grandes éxitos, además tuvo un Tour que fue increíble aunque luego tuviera que terminar posponiendolo debido a sus propios problemas con la fama y sus adicciones.
Hablando de las canciones que me encantan de este álbum primero debo hablar sobre el tema principal que es Purpose en el que claramente habla sobre su propósito como cantante pero más importante cómo ser humano. Justin siempre ha estado en la búsqueda de su propio bienestar y en esta oportunidad saca está canción como un reflejo de gratitud y de espiritualidad en la que habla abiertamente sobre tener un gran propósito en la vida. Es una canción lenta que suena cómo si estuvieras escuchando un versículo. Es lenta pero muy bonita, me gusta que hable tan sinceramente de cómo su conexión con Dios lo ayudo a entender su propósito en este mundo y cómo artista.
También está otro tema que me gusta y que se llama Life Is Worth Living, está canción desde que la escuché movió algo dentro de mi. Es simplemente muy sincera y lo más cercano a escuchar las palabras adecuadas sobre todo cuando como seres humanos vivimos momentos de dificultad, de depresión o de no encontrarle sentido a la vida. Es lenta también pero llega directo al corazón. Recuerdo haber llorado un par de veces escuchándola, es hermosa pero remueve las emociones. En ocasiones me ayudó mucho a encontrar mi norte y a volver a ver la vida desde una manera más grata, siento que cuando paso por momentos difíciles y la vuelvo a escuchar me convenzo de que es una de las mejores canciones de Justin.
En el álbum también se escuchan mezclas de canciones con toques electrónicos cómo Where Are Ü Now con la colaboración de Skrillex, Diplo y Jack Ü. Esta canción fue todo un éxito y tiene un vídeo musical increíble, sobre todo por la forma en la que fue grabado junto con la ayuda de los fans. Cada fan pudo agregar un diseño que luego fue usado para el vídeo musical, siento que fue una forma de conectar más con el público y de crear un vídeo diferente. Además, también esta canción es una de las que abrió la oportunidad para que otras personas que no escuchaban su música, les gustara y dejaran un poco de lado la idea de que solo era un cantante para chicas o de cara bonita. Siento que no hay una fiesta en la que no coloquen está canción, tiene un ritmo muy chévere y la colaboración estuvo realmente increíble.
Hay otros temas que también valen la pena escuchar cómo No Pressure, Company, No Sense, Been You, Get Used To It que mantienen el ritmo entre el pop, r&b y la música electrónica. También incluye otros temas como Sorry, Mark My Words, I'll Show You, The Feeling, What Do You Mean, Love Yourself. La mayor parte del álbum va mezclando estos géneros y siento que lo que hizo más especial este álbum además de la sinceridad con la que Justin se expresa, es que se atrevió a hacer algo diferente a lo que siempre habia hecho. La colaboración con Halsey en The Feeling es increíble, amo a esta cantante y creo que es una de mis canciones favoritas dentro del álbum, siempre espere que tuviera un mejor vídeo musical pero la canción realmente fue un éxito cuando salió el álbum y es una de las que siempre tengo en Repeat.
Purpose es un álbum honestamente bien elaborado, con una forma de expresar emociones que te permiten conectar con la música de Justin de una manera diferente. Mas allá de ser una figura pública, también vemos los desafíos que ha enfrentado sobre todo con la parte de la fama y la espiritualidad. Cuando me siento decaída escucho parte de este álbum y vuelvo a conectar con esa versión de mi que ama la música independientemente del género. Es un álbum que vale totalmente la pena escuchar sobre todo si no eres parte del fandom. Los invito a escucharlo y sobre todo a disfrutar de esta maravilla de disco. 🩵🎶
