David Simon’s unflinching and profoundly pessimistic vision of the War on Drugs, as crystallised in The Wire, posits a grim reality: any perceived victory is inevitably small, arduous to achieve, and perilously close to collapsing into catastrophic defeat through the merest twist of misfortune or systemic indifference. This core tenet of institutional futility finds one of its most devastating and meticulously crafted illustrations in The Cost, the tenth episode of the show’s inaugural season. Far from offering catharsis, the episode relentlessly demonstrates how the fragile scaffolding of progress, painstakingly erected by the Baltimore Police Department’s detail, can be shattered in an instant, revealing the profound vulnerability of any attempt to challenge the entrenched power of the Barksdale Organisation within the rotting ecosystem of the city.

The investigation against the Barksdale Organisation, whilst demonstrably progressing, crawls forward at a pace dictated by meticulous police procedure – a pace Lieutenant Cedric Daniels ostensibly champions. He understands that dismantling a sophisticated, violent drug empire demands thoroughness, wiretaps, and irrefutable evidence to secure convictions that stick. Yet, Daniels is acutely aware that the hourglass of political tolerance has nearly emptied. His superiors, particularly the politically attuned Deputy Commissioner Ervin Burrell, are desperate to conclude the messy, resource-intensive, and potentially embarrassing investigation. They crave a quick, public "win" to appease the mayor’s office and quell any whispers of scandal that might surface from the detail’s methods. Even Judge Phelan, the task force’s initial judicial champion, has withdrawn his crucial support after being unceremoniously dropped from mayor's re-election ticket, a stark reminder of how easily political winds shift. Daniels is thus trapped: he must deliver arrests now, regardless of whether the evidence is truly comprehensive, or risk seeing months of gruelling surveillance, wiretaps, and informant cultivation rendered utterly worthless by bureaucratic termination.

Thankfully, or so it seems, the painstaking labour has yielded several promising avenues. Detectives have pinpointed a heavily fortified stash house, potentially containing a massive quantity of narcotics – a tangible, arrest-worthy score. Simultaneously, the volatile Omar Little, whose personal vendetta against Avon Barksdale nearly derailed the investigation by provoking reckless violence, is forced to seek help from Detective Jimmy McNulty and Kima Greggs after being severely wounded in a botched assassination attempt on Avon himself. Avon, shaken by his narrow escape, becomes momentarily receptive to Stringer Bell’s preferred strategy of cold pragmatism over blind retaliation. Bell is dispatched to negotiate a tense truce. This presents the police with a golden opportunity: Omar, wired, could capture Bell explicitly implicating Avon in the attack. Yet, Bell’s legendary caution proves insurmountable; he carefully avoids uttering anything that could directly tie Avon to the violence. His quick acceptance of a $5,000 "damage" payment to Omar is the final confirmation for the stick-up man: the Barksdales will absolutely kill him given the chance. Recognising this, Omar makes the pragmatic, heartbreaking decision to simply vanish, taking his vendetta – and his potential testimony – to New York City. Another potential victory evaporates.

McNulty, meanwhile, secures a different kind of informant: the tragically doomed Wallace, now a hollowed-out 16-year-old addict. Haunted by his complicity in Brandon Wiley’s murder and desperate for escape, Wallace agrees to testify against his former bosses. Yet, the crushing reality of Baltimore’s institutional decay rears its head once more. The cash-strapped city lacks the resources for even a basic witness protection programme. McNulty, operating beyond his mandate and driven by a flicker of conscience, is forced to personally shepherd the terrified boy into the countryside, delivering him to a grandmother Wallace hasn’t seen in years – a makeshift, profoundly inadequate solution that underscores the state’s abdication of responsibility. Wallace’s fragile hope for a new life is immediately cast into doubt, another small step forward instantly burdened with the weight of systemic failure.

The most promising avenue, however, appears to open through sheer, fortuitous coincidence. Wendell "Orlando" Blocker, seemingly undeterred by a brutal beating administered by Avon for his independent drug schemes, persists. Unbeknownst to Orlando, his new supplier, Troy Wiggins, is actually Maryland State Police undercover officer Troy Johnson (played by Neko Parham). Following Orlando’s arrest, he readily agrees to testify against Barksdale and participate in a sting operation where Kima Greggs poses as his girlfriend to buy drugs from enforcer Savino Bratton (Chris Clanton). Tragically, whilst Orlando languishes in jail, he is spotted by Marvin Browning (Jeorge Watson), a sharp-eyed Barksdale soldier. Browning swiftly relays this intelligence outside the prison walls. What was meticulously planned as a controlled police operation transforms into a meticulously planned ambush. As Kima and Orlando approach the designated spot, two hooded gunmen erupt from an alley, executing Orlando and critically wounding Kima before vanishing.

The Cost initially seems the most conventional episode thus far, its shocking cliffhanger finale reminiscent of standard police procedurals. Yet, this perceived conventionality is precisely where Simon’s genius lies. The ultra-violent denouement isn’t gratuitous drama; it’s a brutal manifestation of Baltimore’s grim reality, delivered with unflinching realism. The sting’s catastrophic collapse makes perfect, horrifying sense within the show’s established world. Both the police and the drug trade operate within the same constrained, hyper-vigilant environment where information flows swiftly through the streets, and mistakes are fatal. Savino’s tactical brilliance – turning the police’s own operation against them, using the city’s nooks and crannies – isn’t cinematic exaggeration; it’s the logical outcome of operating in a landscape where survival depends on anticipating the enemy’s moves. The police, for once, aren’t the hunters; they are the prey, meticulously targeted in an operation that exposes the terrifying fragility of their perceived control.

Director Brad Anderson (known for diverse work from The Machinist to Mad About You) masterfully crafts this suspense. The sequence operates with Hitchcockian precision; the audience, privy to Browning’s identification of Orlando in jail, is gripped by agonising dread as Kima and Orlando walk unknowingly towards their fate. Every mundane detail is rendered with chilling plausibility, making the hope that this time disaster might be averted feel unbearably real, and thus, the inevitable violence profoundly shattering. Even earlier, seemingly innocuous moments gain retrospective weight. Kima’s night out with Cheryl and her lesbian friends, which in a lesser show might feel like a clumsy bid for audience sympathy or a clichéd signal of impending doom, is presented with such down-to-earth, unremarkable normality within The Wire’s fabric that its later resonance is devastatingly earned, not manipulative.

Similarly, the poignant scene where Wallace, en route to his grandmother’s rural refuge, asks McNulty about the strange noise outside the car window – only to be told it’s crickets – stands as one of the series’ most quietly devastating moments. Simon uses this simple exchange to illustrate the profound, soul-crushing confinement of the streets. Wallace, a child of the projects, has never encountered crickets; his entire frame of reference is defined by the concrete jungle’s specific sounds and dangers. The noise of the natural world is alien, highlighting how the brutal realities of Baltimore not only endanger lives but actively shrink horizons, rendering fundamental aspects of existence beyond the city limits utterly incomprehensible. It’s a microcosm of the larger tragedy: the system doesn’t just kill; it blinds.

The Cost earns its title not merely through Kima’s shooting or Orlando’s death, but through the cumulative weight of every shattered opportunity, every bureaucratic constraint, every moment where the city’s pervasive rot ensures that progress is fleeting and paid for in blood. It is the episode where Simon’s thesis becomes undeniable: in the War on Drugs, as waged in Baltimore, there are no clean victories, only varying degrees of loss, and the cost of even the smallest step forward is invariably, catastrophically high.

I'm back, after several days away from reviews, and today I bring you my opinion on the third season of Yellowjackets.

After a long wait, with a second season full of questions, the third installment has returned to delve a little deeper into the story of these young women, trapped in a world full of mystery, suspense, and drama.

Let's remember that this series is based on the story of a group of young teenagers who, after suffering a plane crash and being trapped in a forest, are rescued. Several years later, that past continues to haunt them, as they are the only ones who know what they suffered and went through to survive, a past that none of them want to talk about, let alone remember.

Misty, Natalie, Taissa, and Shauna are the main characters, and through them we will see how it all began and ended.

What attracted me to this series🎥

Well, I watched the first season a while ago, and I actually shared my opinion about it. Although I classified it as an entertaining series, neither bad nor good, I was still intrigued and wanted to continue watching it, so I also watched the second season, hoping to find answers to some questions. However, that didn't happen, which is why we now have this third season, where we will see new scenes and, yes, new questions.

What attracted me to the series was that touch of mystery and suspense in each scene, not knowing exactly what happened, but above all, how they managed to get out of there. On the other hand, there's the contrast between before and after, showing these young teenagers, now grown women with their lives made, but unable to let go of that past that still haunts them.

But there is no doubt that the part in the forest is the most appealing, because it shows them in that facet of surviving at all costs, which pushes them to the limit, willing to do anything, transforming them, ceasing to be human, and even friends, and only seeking what is best for each of them.

Que me atrajo de esta serie🎥

Bien, hace un tiempo que vi la primera temporada, de hecho, compartí mi opinión sobre ella, aunque la catalogue como una serie entretenida, ni mala ni buena, de igual manera quede intrigada, y quise continuar viéndola, por ello también vi la segunda temporada, esperando poder responder algunas interrogantes, sin embargo, no fue así, de allí surge esta tercera temporada, donde veremos nuevas escenas, y si, nuevas interrogantes.

Lo que me atrajo de la serie, fue ese toque del misterio, suspenso, en cada escena, sin saber con exactitud, que ocurrió, pero, sobre todo, como lograron salir de allí; por otro lado, ese contraste, de una antes y después, mostrando a estas jóvenes adolescentes, ya luego convertidas en mujeres adultas, con sus vidas hechas, pero sin poder soltar ese pasado, que aun las acecha.

Pero no cabe duda, que la parte en el bosque es lo que más atrae, porque las muestra en esa faceta de sobrevivir como sea, lo que las lleva al límite, dispuestas hacer lo que sea, se transforma, dejan de ser humanas, e incluso amigas, y solo buscan los que les conviene a cada quien.

New characters raise new questions🎥

The plot continues, and with this new season, we expected to see the answers to some questions. However, the series shows us new characters, new scenes, and of course, without answering all the mysteries of how they got out and what happened to the other girls, which remains up in the air.

That's undoubtedly what it's all about: keeping you there, eager to keep watching, because you need to know how it all ends, what else these women were capable of doing in order to survive, to leave that past behind, or even to continue living their present.

Sandman and the Monarch of Hell: an episode that left me thinking.

Hello, good people and lovers of cinema, movies, and more! Here I bring you a new review of a series that I enjoy and find very entertaining. This time I want to talk to you about the second episode of the second season of Sandman, titled “Monarch of Hell.” I watched it alone because my son Abraham isn't into this series; he says they talk too much and he finds it difficult to understand. But for me, it has something special that draws me in. When I saw Morpheus returning to Hell, I immediately remembered that epic confrontation he had with Lucifer in the first season. It was one of the best parts of that season, so I was excited to think that another intense fight between the two of them was coming. But this episode took a different turn... a very different one that left me in shock. From the moment Lucifer appeared and said he was going to renounce Hell, I didn't know what to think. Lucifer renouncing! I thought it was a trap, because we all know he's not exactly the most honest character. But as the minutes passed, everything he said left me more confused. I didn't know whether to believe him or not. At one point, he says that demons don't possess souls, that each soul belongs to itself. That phrase really touched me. It made me reflect on how often we are the ones who give power to our fears, our anxieties, or our insecurities. Demons only offer, but we are the ones who accept or reject. I found that very profound!

Sandman y el Monarca del Infierno: un capítulo que me dejó pensando. ¡Hola, gente buena y amantes del cine, películas y más! Aquí les traigo una nueva reseña de una serie que disfruto y me entretiene muchísimo. Esta vez quiero hablarles del segundo capítulo de la segunda temporada de Sandman, titulado “Monarca del Infierno”. Lo vi solita porque mi hijo Abraham no se anima con esta serie; dice que hablan mucho y se le hace difícil entenderla. Pero para mí, tiene algo especial que me atrapa. Cuando vi que Morfeo regresaba al Infierno, enseguida recordé ese enfrentamiento épico que tuvo con Lucifer en la primera temporada. Fue de lo mejor de toda esa parte, así que me emocioné pensando que venía otra pelea intensa entre ellos dos. Pero este capítulo tomó otro rumbo… uno muy diferente que me dejó en shock. Desde que Lucifer aparece y dice que va a renunciar al Infierno, no sabía qué pensar. ¡Lucifer renunciando! Pensé que era una trampa, porque todos sabemos que no es precisamente el personaje más honesto. Pero mientras pasaban los minutos, cada cosa que decía me dejaba más confundida. No sabía si creerle o no. En una parte dice que los demonios no poseen las almas, que cada alma se pertenece a sí misma. Esa frase me tocó mucho. Me hizo reflexionar sobre cómo muchas veces somos nosotros quienes le damos poder a nuestros miedos, nuestras angustias o inseguridades. Los demonios solo ofrecen, pero somos nosotros quienes aceptamos o no. ¡Eso me pareció muy profundo!

And just when I thought it was all true... bam! Lucifer was telling the truth, but he had a hidden agenda. He leaves the key to Hell with Morpheus, which basically gets him into a huge mess. Now all the big entities want that key, like Loki, Thor, Odin, and the angels Remiel and Duma, among others. They all showed up with their proposals to take that power for themselves. That's when I thought: poor Morpheus! They left him with a huge burden on his shoulders. But I know he always thinks carefully about what he does. He has that calm but powerful way of acting, and that's part of what I like about him. And that ending... oh my goodness! That horrible demon, Azazel, appears, trying to scare Morpheus and use him for his own plans. But I trust that Morpheus will know how to get through this and find a way to rescue the trapped girl. Something I like about this series is that it doesn't just give you action or fantasy, it also leaves you thinking. The episode reminded me that we often carry symbolic keys in our lives: decisions that can open good or bad paths, and that we should always think calmly before handing them over to someone else. I found that key metaphor beautiful and very real. Anyway, my goodness, this episode was my favorite of the season. Full of surprises, reflections, and a story that just keeps getting better. Y justo cuando pensé que todo era verdad… ¡bam! Lucifer sí estaba diciendo la verdad, pero con un plan escondido. Le deja la llave del Infierno a Morfeo, lo que básicamente lo mete en un lío gigantesco. Ahora todas las grandes entidades quieren esa llave, como Loki, Thor, Odín, y los ángeles Remiel y Duma, entre otros. Todos aparecieron con su propuesta para quedarse con ese poder. Ahí fue cuando pensé: ¡pobre Morfeo! Le dejaron una carga enorme sobre los hombros. Pero sé que él siempre piensa bien lo que hace. Tiene esa forma calmada pero poderosa de actuar, y eso es parte de lo que me gusta de él. Y ese final… ¡madre mía! Aparece ese demonio horrible, Azazel, intentando meterle miedo a Morfeo y usándolo para sus planes. Pero yo confío en que Morfeo sabrá salir adelante y encontrará cómo rescatar a la chica atrapada. Algo que me gusta de esta serie es que no solo te da acción o fantasía, también te deja reflexionando. El capítulo me recordó que muchas veces cargamos con llaves simbólicas en nuestra vida: decisiones que pueden abrir caminos buenos o malos, y que siempre debemos pensar con calma antes de entregarlas a alguien más. Esa metáfora de la llave me pareció bellísima y muy real. En fin, mis cielos, este capítulo fue el que más me ha gustado de esta temporada. Lleno de sorpresas, reflexiones y una historia que se pone cada vez mejor. No sé si diría que amo esta serie, pero sin duda la disfruto y me entretiene bastante. It came to an end after three seasons And just like that. Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda along with their new friends Seema and Lisa show us the life of women over 50 in New York City. I have read several negative reviews of this series for following the life of characters that were part of the culture more than twenty years ago and that represented liberal women with experiences of any single woman where they were shown without any taboo and that now do not have the same essence of the first seasons because before they were ahead in terms of women’s liberation and empowerment of our sexuality while now or at least in the first season the word old was pronounced much while they were discovering everything that had changed in society, making them look like dinosaurs that little by little were adapting.

Carrie, Charlotte y Miranda junto a sus nuevas amigas Seema y Lisa nos muestran la vida de mujeres con más de 50 en la ciudad de Nueva York. He leído varias críticas negativas de esta serie por seguir la vida de unos personajes que fueron parte de la cultura hace más de veinte años y que representaban a mujeres liberales con experiencias de cualquier mujer soltera donde se mostraban sin ningún tabú y que ahora no tienen la misma esencia de las primeras temporadas porque antes ellas si estaban adelantadas en cuanto a la liberación femenina y el empoderamiento de nuestra sexualidad mientras que ahora o al menos en la primera temporada se pronunciaba mucho la palabra vieja mientras que ellas iban descubriendo todo lo había cambiando en la sociedad, haciéndolas quedar como unos dinosaurios que poco a poco se fueron adaptando.

The first season seemed a little forced, its predecessor was a series that talked about sex mostly between men and women, but over the years we have become more liberal and have come to light a lot of genders and non-genders that I would not dare to name or talk about because I have no knowledge and every day there is something new. This series in its first season tried to include a lot of that, characters and situations that bothered many people who gradually moved away and those who stayed to see the following seasons could enjoy an end for me worthy for now, although HBO confirmed that there is no fourth season, I say those who stayed because I know of many people who after seeing the first season or some chapters did not want to continue watching it (I know).

The fact is that we arrived at the third season without any change in terms of inclusion, since we did not see Che anymore and Rose, Charlotte’s youngest daughter, we accepted her as an elle. Here we rather talk about much more contemporary issues for the age of the protagonists such as their relationships with their partners, children and work. When we finished the second season Carrie was betting everything on a relationship with Aidan, I don’t know how something that ended so badly the first time could work, how to think that the past and mistrust had been overcome. I understand Carrie a little bit about having hope that this time it was going to work out, thinking that if he came back into her life it’s for a reason and we just had to be patient because fate is telling me that now it is.

La primera temporada me pareció un poco forzada, su antecesora era una serie que hablaba de sexo mayormente entre hombres y mujeres, pero que con el pasar de los años nos hemos vuelto mas liberales y han salido a luz un montón de géneros y no géneros de los que no me atrevería a nombrar ni hablar porque no tengo el conocimiento y cada día hay algo nuevo. Está serie en su primera temporada trato de incluir mucho de eso, personajes y situaciones que molestaron a muchas personas que poco a poco se alejaron y los que nos quedamos para ver las siguientes temporadas pudimos disfrutar de un final para mí digno por ahora, aunque HBO confirmo que no hay una cuarta temporada, digo los que nos quedamos porque se de muchas personas que luego de ver la primera temporada o algunos capítulos no quisieron seguir viéndola (conozco).

El caso es que llegamos a la tercera temporada sin ningún cambio en cuanto a la inclusión pues a Che no la vimos más y Rose, la hija menor de Charlotte, la aceptamos como elle. Aquí más bien hablamos de temas mucho más contemporáneos para la edad de las protagonistas como sus relaciones de parejas, hijos y trabajo. Cuando terminamos la segunda temporada Carrie estaba apostando todo a una relación con Aidan, no sé cómo podría funcionar algo que la primera vez terminó tan mal, cómo pensar que se había superado el pasado y la desconfianza. Entiendo un poco a Carrie en cuanto a tener la esperanza de que está vez iba a funcionar, pensar que si volvió a su vida es por algo y solo había que tener paciencia porque el destino me está diciendo que ahora si.

I think I first started to actually watch The Boondocks was two years ago. I can't remember getting particularly far into the show, mostly watching through the first season. I found it utterly hilarious. Though I was also watching other things at the time, and eventually ended up going to Turkey, which then took me to Armenia. Then to Georgia and now back to Armenia. The show was put aside as I continued to watch other things here and there, though generally less as my free time became significantly more occupied elsewhere. It's hot here in Yerevan, and going outside into the sun is a bit dangerous for both the UV and the heat itself. It's best to find ways to stay inside, whether it's going to cafes or just staying home where things are cooler. This has given me a lot more free time over the past week, and I remembered that I never really continued watching The Boondocks despite loving it. I decided to jump back into it, right from the very beginning again, giving it the attention I didn't quite get to before.

A smart kid that sees the way forward, but is surrounded by people that seem caught up in their self-destructive ways and refusing to adapt and improve. Huey isn't a perfect kid, but he serves as the balance within the story, with each other character ultimately being a stereotype: the grandfather which is ignorant, old, and doesn't want to see anything change. The younger brother Riley which is just a menace and finds the fun in creating havoc. There's even a self-hating black man which constantly displays his hatred for his fellow race while sucking up to every white person he sees, to the point in which it is clearly ridiculous. There's even the upper-class government worker that is black and acts more white than the rest. These are all exaggerated forms of people within society. Put them all together, and you get stories and messages on culture and society, sprinkled in with extra additions of humour to lighten it all up.

John Witherspoon, unfortunately passed, is perhaps the highlight of the show as the grandfather. His voice is incredible, and his soul really punches through into the performance. His character the reason him and the two children live in a more luxury white neighbourhood which has them standing out. Episodes speak on the cultural differences between whites and blacks, though never shying away from the differences that could be considered more touchy. From how Martin Luther King would find today's society depressing. How white people see no problem in snitching because their outcomes rarely result in anything negative. There's also the concept of how stupid the rap world can be and how the drama can actually just be from the fact that the rappers are gay and in love. This is where the show is from the 2005, where no subject feels taboo and it pokes fun in any way it can. Even featuring a Bob Ross character which teaches Riley to create more 'appealing' street art that is really just still life fruit that white people end up loving and approving of, instead of the usual graffiti.

The Boondocks has no limits to its silliness. And it makes it clear that while sometimes there are some aspects of social commentary, it's all coming from a good place and just highlighting the fact that sometimes people are different in how they think, how they act, and that there's something funny about how fragile we can all be when it comes to these differences. This is one of those shows that never stops pushing forward. Each episode being a different story, each one showcasing that early 2000s climate. As if It's Always Sunny met The Fresh Prince and this show was birthed from the two, in a unique anime style.

Le papa, Gomez Addams (Raul Julia), est sans nouvelles de son frère Fétide (Christopher Lloyd) depuis 25 ans et Fétide lui manque.

L'avocat de Gomez, Tully Alford (Dan Hedaya), doit de l'argent à une arnaqueuse, Abigail Craven (Elizabeth Wilson). Alford se rend chez Abigail et fait remarquer que Gordon, le fils adoptif d'Abigail, ressemble étrangement à Fétide Addams. Ils décident donc d'élaborer un plan pour mettre la main sur la fortune des Addams.

Lors d'une séance de spiritisme, Gordon se présente donc à la porte du manoir Addams sous les traits de Fétide.

Il est accueilli comme il se doit par la famille et une fête est organisée.

Petit à petit, Gordon se sent bien dans cette famille, en se rapprochant des enfants d'abord, Mercredi (Christina Ricci) et Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) et n'a plus trop envie de leur prendre leur fortune.

Mon avis et petites infos :

Raul Julia était un très bon acteur (RIP 24 octobre 1994, AVC et cancer de l'estomac). Son dernier rôle était Bison dans Street Fighter, alors qu'il était mourant.

Morticia Addams, épouse de Gomez, est interprété par Anjelica Huston, fille du réalisateur John Huston, vous avez pu la voir dans l'Honneur des Prizzi (Maerose Prizzi), dans Les Sorcières (Grand High Witch), dans John Wick Parabellum (la directrice), dans la série Les Brumes d'Avalon (Viviane).

Je ne vous présente par Christopher Lloyd (Doc, dans Retour vers le Futur).

Comme j'avais vu la saison 1 de Mercredi, j'avais déjà un avant-goût de l'humour présent dans le film. La série est de Tim Burton, cela change pas mal les choses quand même. Le film est réalisé par Barry Sonnenfeld.

Il faut un petit temps d'adaptation au début, mais ça va, j'ai encore bien apprécié.

Le film suivant Les Valeurs de la Famille Addams est sorti en 1993 et est aussi disponible sur Netflix. Nous le regardons prochainement si ce programme convient à Itharagaian, qui, lui, les a déjà vus.

Hola amigos cinéfilos de Movies & Tv, espero se encuentren teniendo una excelente semana ✨. Hace unos días encontré una película llamada El Bosque del Luto, es una producción del año 2007 del país Japones. A mí me gustan las películas que tengan un toque de drama y de mensajes importantes dentro de las historias y esta me dejó reflexionando sobre el camino que sigue una persona luego de perder a un ser querido, el luto es una de las cosas que los seres humanos más tememos y que cuando nos sucede en nuestra vida cotidiana puede llegar a afectarnos gravemente. Está película se trata del luto pero también del cómo a través de las vivencias aprendemos a vivir a través del dolor y a dejar ir aunque nos cueste, así que me gustaría invitarlos a leer mi reseña de El Bosque del Luto 💬☁️

Hello Movies & Tv cinephile friends, I hope you are having a great week ✨. A few days ago I found a movie called The Mourning Forest, it's a 2007 production from Japan. I like movies that have a touch of drama and important messages within the stories and this one left me reflecting on the path that a person follows after losing a loved one, mourning is one of the things that we humans fear the most and when it happens to us in our daily lives can affect us seriously. This film is about mourning but also about how through the experiences we learn to live through the pain and to let go even if it costs us, so I would like to invite you to read my review of The Mourning Forest 💬☁️

La película de origen Japones fue dirigida por Naomi Kawase y de género drama nos presenta la historia de una joven llamada Machiko quien empieza una nueva etapa de su vida trabajando en un lugar un tanto diferente, atendiendo a personas de la tercera edad quienes por alguna razón terminaron en este lugar que es su nueva forma de hogar. Muchos de los que se encuentran allí tienen deterioro cognitivo, algunos no pueden hacer las cosas por si solos y otros tienen pocos recuerdos de su vida antes de llegar a esa edad. Por tanto, Machiko debe enfrentarse a un trabajo que le exigirá tener tacto, paciencia y a la vez la hará enfrentarse a su propio dolor.

The Japanese film was directed by Naomi Kawase and presents the story of a young woman named Machiko who begins a new stage of her life working in a somewhat different place, taking care of elderly people who for some reason ended up in this place that is their new form of home. Many of the people there are cognitively impaired, some are unable to do things on their own, and others have little memory of their life before they reached that age. Therefore, Machiko must face a job that will require her to be tactful, patient and at the same time make her face her own pain.

Machiko debe cuidar de Shigeki, un señor bastante mayor que se comunica con pocas palabras y que tiene recuerdos de una persona muy especial en su vida: su esposa que ya falleció. Entre la convivencia se puede notar que Machiko hace lo mejor que puede para que todos se sientan bien y acompañados en los últimos momentos de su vida de la mejor manera, rodeados de un hermoso campo japones y de siembras que de vez en cuando van a visitar junto a los ancianos para distraerlos de la cotidianidad. Pero el lazo entre Machiko y Shigeki se vuelve de alguna forma un tanto más fuerte y personal.

Machiko must take care of Shigeki, a rather old man who communicates with few words and who has memories of a very special person in his life: his wife who has passed away. In the midst of living together, you can see that Machiko does her best to make everyone feel well and accompanied in the last moments of his life in the best way, surrounded by a beautiful Japanese countryside and crops that from time to time they go to visit with the elderly to distract them from the daily routine. But the bond between Machiko and Shigeki becomes somehow stronger and more personal.

La historia muestra la realidad de las personas que llegan a la tercera edad y que van perdiendo las capacidades que alguna vez tuvieron y que ahora son más como unos pequeños niños quienes se alegran con una nueva comida, una salida al aire libre o incluso con hacer practicas de dibujo para distraer la mente y mantenerse activos de alguna manera. Se siente como estar viendo un video personal de alguien que lo grabó de manera casera para dejar un recuerdo de lo que vivió, la cámara va constantemente cerca de Machiko y de la aventura que le espera con Shigeki, que no va a ser fácil pero al final será liberadora para ambos.

The story shows the reality of people reaching old age who are losing the abilities they once had and are now more like little children who are happy with a new meal, an outing in the fresh air or even drawing practice to distract the mind and keep active in some way. It feels like watching a personal video of someone who recorded it at home to leave a memory of what they experienced, the camera is constantly close to Machiko and the adventure that awaits her with Shigeki, which is not going to be easy but in the end will be liberating for both of them.

El nombre lo dice directamente, este film habla sobre el duelo y la manera en la que muchas veces nos cuesta tanto poder decir adiós o dejar ir a esa persona que tanto quisimos. Se puede ver el cómo Shigeki recuerda tanto a su esposa mucho más que quien fue el mismo como persona, recuerda el amor que los unió y eso le hace querer poder despedirse —a su manera— de ella y que además de esta forma ayuda también a Machiko a dejar ir el dolor que tanto le pesa pero que solo ella conoce y que lleva como una mochila que le hace recordar aquella persona que ya no está.

The name says it directly, this film talks about grief and the way in which we often find it so hard to say goodbye or let go of that person we loved so much. You can see how Shigeki remembers his wife much more than who he was as a person, he remembers the love that united them and that makes him want to say goodbye -in his own way- to her and that also helps Machiko to let go of the pain that weighs so much on her but that only she knows and that she carries like a backpack that makes her remember that person who is no longer there.

El film pueden verlo a través de plataformas como PrimeVideo o incluso en páginas de películas online en idioma español o subtitulado, es una historia que te adentra dentro del hermoso paisaje de un bosque en Japón que guarda todos los momentos que viven Machiko y Shigeki y cómo dos desconocidos pudieron al perderse dentro de este bosque, encontrar un poco de paz luego del dolor. Es una película bastante corta pero concisa con el tema del que trata, no es una historia que romantiza la muerte, sino que nos hace ver qué de las maneras más extrañas podemos volver a reencontrarnos con nuestro pasado y poder dejar un poco el dolor atrás. Espero que la puedan ver y me cuenten que les pareció. ☁️

The film can be seen through platforms such as PrimeVideo or even online movie sites in Spanish or subtitled, it is a story that takes you into the beautiful landscape of a forest in Japan that keeps all the moments that Machiko and Shigeki live and how two strangers could get lost in this forest, find some peace after the pain. It is a fairly short but concise film with the theme it deals with, it is not a story that romanticizes death, but makes us see that in the strangest ways we can return to meet our past and be able to leave a little pain behind. Today I just rewatched what was my favorite series of my adolescence, and which over the years has become iconic, I'm talking about Candy. This story is about a girl who was abandoned in front of the doors of an orphanage on a cloudy night while it was snowing, so Miss Ponny and Sister Maria (running the orphanage) decided to name her Candy White. That same day they also abandoned another girl, Annie, and both girls grew up loving each other like sisters until one day a couple adopted Annie and Candy was left sad in the orphanage. Later, she agrees to be adopted by a family just to be near Annie, but this family only wants to have her as a servant in their house. On her way to adulthood, Candy experiences many adventures and valuable lessons, but also difficult moments.

Hoy acabo de ver nuevamente lo que fue mi serie favorita de mi adolescencia, y que a lo largo de los años se ha vuelto un ícono, me refiero a Candy. Esta historia trata de una niña que fue abandonada frente a las puertas de un orfanato en una noche nublada mientras nevaba, así que la señorita Ponny y la hermana María (regentes del orfanato) decidieron llamarla Candy White. Ese mismo día también abandonaron a otra niña, Annie, y ambas niñas crecieron queriéndose como hermanas hasta que en una ocasión una pareja adoptó a Annie y Candy se quedó triste en el orfanato, más tarde acepta ser aptada por una familia solo por estar cerca de Annie, pero esta familia solo quiere tenerla como sirvienta en su casa. En su camino hacia la adultez Candy vive muchas aventuras y aprendizajes valiosos, pero también momentos difíciles.

Every time I have the chance I rewatch this anime because it reminds me so much of my youth, it was full of tenderness and innocence, but at the same time it was also a reflection of the harsh reality of orphans (among other things) some of them were only adopted to serve as a workforce and they were treated with great contempt, in addition there was a lot of prejudice against orphans, just because they didn't have parents they were already considered thieves or undesirable people.

Cada vez que yo tengo la oportunidad vuelvo a ver este anime porque me recuerda muchísimo mi juventud, estaba lleno de ternura e inocencia, pero a la vez también era un reflejo de la cruda realidad de los huérfanos (entre otras cosas) algunos de ellos solo eran adoptados para servir como fuerza de trabajo y los trataban con mucho desprecio, además había muchísimo prejuicio contra los huérfanos, solo por el hecho de no tener padres ya los consideraban como ladrones o personas indeseables.

It's true that the anime was very cheesy, it had very cloying scenes and dialogues but I suppose that was something very typical of the time, it also happened with the so-called romance novels, it's part of a genre, but in general terms it was a very entertaining anime, with an interesting and dynamic theme that mixes romance with comedy and action, in the same way it also touches on serious and real themes like war.

Es verdad que el anime era muy cursi, tenía escenas y diálogos muy empalagosos pero supongo que era algo muy propio de la época, sucedía también con las llamadas novelas rosas, es parte de un género, pero en términos generales era un anime muy entretenido, con una temática interesante y dinámica que mezcla el romance con la comedia y la acción, de la misma manera también toca temas serios y reales como la guerra.

There is a lot of diversity when it comes to the characters because each one is different from the other and each one contributes something to the plot, for example I remember Flamie Hamilton (Candy's roommate) in nursing school, this girl was extremely different from Candy, her personality was sober and she almost never smiled, she almost never took her nose out of her books and she hated Candy's candor and spontaneity, but the director of the nursing school said that the mixture of both would result in the perfect nurse. In addition, the series was a criticism of snobbery and the way millionaire families handled everything based on hierarchies. The Andry family, for example (the one that adopted Candy) was very elitist and managed the lives of others as they pleased, but fortunately the great-uncle was the exception to the rule, a different being in every way.

Hay mucha diversidad en lo que refiere a los personajes porque cada uno es diferente al otro y cada quien aporta algo a la trama, por ejemplo recuerdo a Flamie Hamilton (la compañera de habitación de Candy) en la escuela de enfermería, esta chica era extremadamente diferente a Candy, su personalidad era sobria y casi nunca sonreía, casi nunca sacaba la nariz de los libros y detestaba la candidez y espontaneidad de Candy, pero la directora de la escuela de enfermería decía que la mezcla de ambas resultaría en la enfermera perfecta. Además la serie era una critica al esnobismo y la forma en la que las familias millonarias manejaban todo en base a jerarquías. La familia Andry por ejemplo (la que adoptó a Candy) era muy elitista y manejaba la vida de los demás a su antojo pero afortunadamente el tío abuelo era la excepción a la regla, un ser diferente en todos los sentidos.

Albert was my favorite character because he brought freshness to the plot, I loved his spontaneity and love for nature, he was a carefree young man who hated conventions and formality, but besides him I also liked Stear because despite being a member of the Andry family he didn't behave like one, he was funny and cheerful, he was always working on some invention that usually ended up exploding, and that made me laugh my head off.

Albert era mi personaje favorito porque le aportaba frescura a la trama, su espontaneidad y amor por la naturaleza me encantaban, era un joven despreocupado que detestaba los convencionalismos y la formalidad, pero además de él también me gustaba Stear porque a pesar de ser un miembro de la familia Andry no se comportaba como tal, era gracioso y alegre, siempre estaba trabajando en algún invento que por lo general terminaba explotando, y eso hacía que yo me desternillara de risa.

Warm greetings, friends of the seventh art!!! Continuing my review series "Ten Films That Shook the World," today I present the eighth installment. I'm delighted to be able to share with you here on #hive a bit of my professional journey as an intellectual over the years.

Thanks to my playwriting teacher in Santiago de Cuba, Marcia Castellanos, and to Mario Puzo, I became the writer and screenwriter I am. They were my first teachers. From them, I learned the art of storytelling. From them, I understood that a story, when told well, can change you. "The Godfather" was the model. I'm not just referring to the film, which is a monument. I'm talking about the novel that spawned it.

Gracias a mi profesora de dramaturgia en Santiago de Cuba, Marcia Castellanos; y a Mario Puzo, me convertí en el escritor y guionista que soy. Ellos fueron mis primeros maestros. De ellos aprendí el arte de la narración. De ellos entendí que una historia, bien contada, puede cambiarte. "El Padrino" ese fue el modelo. No me refiero solo a la película, que es un monumento. Hablo de la novela que la engendró.

INTRODUCTION/INTRODUCCIÓN

For me, it goes beyond a classic. It's a life lesson, a masterclass in cinema. It's living proof of a thesis I firmly hold: a good novel can produce memorable films. Puzo's work, in Coppola's hands, transcended. He created an immortal piece of art. He changed the language of cinema. He changed me, and many others. He's a pillar. An inescapable reference. His impact is still present. My relationship with "The Godfather" is intimate. I remember reading Puzo's novel. I immersed myself in that world. Then I saw the film. It was a revelation. I understood how an adaptation should work. How to honor the original material. How to give it new life. It was a profound study. A practical manual for the screenwriter. It showed me the way. The ability to tell a complex story, to build real characters, to explore universal themes. Its influence on my own work is undeniable. It's my personal bible. A constant beacon.

Para mí, va más allá de un clásico. Es una lección de vida, una clase magistral de cine. Es la prueba viviente de una tesis que sostengo con firmeza: una buena novela puede producir películas memorables. La obra de Puzo, en manos de Coppola, trascendió. Creó una pieza de arte inmortal. SYNOPSIS/SINOPSIS

The story of "The Godfather" is simple on the surface. It's the saga of the Corleone family. An Italian criminal dynasty in New York. It's led by Vito Corleone, the "Don." A man of ironclad principles, in his own way. The film begins with the wedding of his daughter Connie. This event serves as a framework. It introduces us to the world of the "family." A world of favors, loyalties, and hidden violence. The tranquility is shattered. A drug trafficker, Sollozzo, seeks Don Vito's protection. He refuses to enter the drug business. This triggers a war. A brutal power struggle. Vito is attacked. His life hangs in the balance. His sons must react. Sonny, the eldest, is impulsive. Fredo is weak. Tom Hagen, the lawyer, is loyal but not blood-related. It is then that Michael, the youngest son, the "American," must intervene. He returns from the war. He wants a normal life, removed from family affairs. But destiny calls. Events sweep him away. He takes the reins of the family. He becomes the new Don. A colder, more calculating leader than his father. His transformation is the heart of the story. It's the fall of a hero. A universe rich in detail, full of codes of honor, and characters with psychological depth. Coppola and Puzo, together on the script, managed to distill that essence. They didn't just adapt; they rewrote. They concentrated. They polished. They created a script that is, in itself, a masterpiece. It's a guide on how to adapt a long novel to a cinematic format, without losing an ounce of its power. The script introduces us to Don Vito. A man who inspires respect, fear, but also a strange affection. He negotiates, he protects. He displays his power, his method. He's not just a gangster. He's a patriarch. He's a strategist. The novel gives us access to his thoughts. The film shows it in his actions, in his silences, in his imposing presence.

THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY, EPISODE 8 || (ENG - ESP)
So, I just finished the just released episode 8 of The Summer I Turned Pretty and I really do not know how to feel right now. Is anybody here also following the show? Someone should please say yes🥹 I made a post 2 days ago about the whole 'Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah' drama going on online and the way people have been too emotional, extending their hate for a character to the actor. However, we have all been anticipating this particular episode and that was the first thing I did with my time this morning.

There was so much uncertainty, and somehow, there still is. This post might contain spoilers so if you are a follower of the show and you haven't seen this episode, I would recommend you go watch and not read further. Yeah, byeee, its out, go watch it now.

As I said earlier in my previous post, I am Team Conrad--I have always been and I will always be. However, this episode was really heartbreaking for me, I almost cried. I almost started feeling bad for Jeremiah but the truth is that I do. I wanted Conrad and Belly together so bad, but I knew it would come at a great cost. The storyline is messy and annoying, breaking brotherly bond like that isn't fair. I feel bad for Belly too, she gaslit herself so much in the entire relationship. She definitely loved Jeremiah but not in the way she will always love Conrad.

This episode was especially very emotional because I worn torn between too many choices. There was what was meant to be, what it is exactly, and what Belly really wanted and wouldn't come in terms with. I would have added 'what was right' but that line has been blurry for a while now. Jeremiah cheated on Belly and Belly sacrificed so much in the relationship just to convince herself she loves him so much. Conrad confessing his love too few days to her wedding would have been totally wrong, if not that we all know he was so mad when he found out Jeremiah cheated on Belly. I dont think he would have said anything if that didnt come up.

I'm glad Jeremiah was honest with himself at the end of it all, for the sake of Belly and him. She was indeed marrying him to erase Conrad from her heart and that wouldn't be fair at all. She and Conrad would always be in love with each other and Jeremiah should not have messed with that in the first place. He wanted to win Belly so bad and look how chaotic that turned out. I know Team Jeremiah would crash out so bad after this episode and honestly, I would understand them so much. Above that, I would want them to be glad the wedding got called off, Belly was just lying to herself the whole time and Jeremiah deserved the whole truth from her.

I do hope there will be a happy ending for Jeremiah eventually, he literally has no one now. Not his brother, not Belly, not his dad that picks on him often. Not even his late mom because that letter wasn't even for him, damn. I do feel bad for Jeremiah, I really do. However, he needs to find himself without every other person. He needs to own and come in terms with his identity. Make something tangible out of his life. I hope he ends up happy at the end of it all.

Enough of that, what was that ending though? You mean I will have to wait a whole week to know what happens next?? Belly was on her way to Paris, right? She almost gave that up for Jeremiah, silly girl. I hope she doesn't give it up for Conrad either, I am certain he wouldn't even let her. I want everyone to go their separate ways, and then they gradually find their way back to each other. I want Conrad and Belly to not rush anything, and I do hope they understand each other better and communicate better. You guys are soulmates, act like it!😅

To be honest, I dont know what will happen eventually. Imagine Conrad, Jeremiah and Belly all together in a room after all these. The tension will be insane, let's see what Jenny Han cooks next. There are two episodes left but at least, evil is over for now. We all know that this show is about Conrad and Belly's love story, that's why we usually get the POV parts in either Belly's voice or Conrad's.

Also, does anyone see what is happening between Taylor and Stephen? I almost started liking Denise with Stephen but when she said she felt like she was kissing a plant, who am I to not keep shipping staylor😂😂. I hope these people just do better with there second chances, or third? I dont even know at this point😂😂. Very messy show😅😅

Ella definitivamente amaba a Jeremiah, pero no de la manera en que siempre amará a Conrad.

Este episodio ha sido especialmente emotivo porque me he sentido dividida entre demasiadas opciones. Para ser sincera, no sé qué pasará finalmente. Imaginaos a Conrad, Jeremiah y Belly juntos en una habitación después de todo esto.
