I know we are not in the Christmas season but I wanted to see Red One from 2024, well I don't always see the movies at the right time, the truth is that I was looking for something on the internet and I read that it cost about 250 million dollars, as this caught my attention so much I had to see how it was but the result was meh. The movie stars Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans and has a mix of Christmas action, it looks like something from Mission Impossible with the spirit of Christmas but the end result is not very good and although it is not bad it is not something I will recommend. Santa Claus is played by JK Simmons who is kidnapped by a Christmas witch and his head of security, played by The Rock has to ally with a somewhat cheeky bounty hunter who is Chris Evans, all this they do to save Christmas. Maybe if I tell you it seems all normal but in reality it is not so it is as if they had taken several scripts and mixed them in a blender without thinking about how it would all fit together, then this makes the film wants to fit into all genres like being a family movie, comedy and action but fails to do so for many things, the fight scenes look too much computer.

La película es protagonizada por Dwayne Johnson y Chris Evans y tiene una mezcla de acción navideña, parece algo de Misión Imposible con el espíritu de la navidad pero el resultado final no es muy bueno y aunque no es malaaa tampoco es algo que vaya a recomendar. On the technical side you can tell the budget is inflated because although there are some visual effects that look impressive there are also sequences where the CGI looks cheap for a production of this caliber, more in the action scenes where everything is pixelated and it is difficult to distinguish what exactly is happening, like that scene at the North Pole that appears at the beginning of the film that seems as if it is completely disconnected from reality. And the direction didn't really hit it either, even though Jake Kasdan directed good movies like Jumanji here it seems like he doesn't know how to balance so many things and most of the time the movie feels like it's on autopilot. The most frustrating thing for me is that the film throws in interesting concepts like Krampus and a whole Christmas mythology but then doesn't really do anything creative with that and rather uses them as an excuse for action sequences and not to explore deeper themes.

En la parte técnica se nota el presupuesto está inflado porque aunque hay algunos efectos visuales que se ven impresionantes también hay secuencias donde el CGI se ve barato para una producción de este calibre, más en las escenas de acción donde todo se pixela y es difícil distinguir qué está pasando exactamente, como esa escena en el Polo Norte que aparece al principio de la película que parece como si está completamente desconectada de la realidad. Y la dirección tampoco la pegó mucho, aunque Jake Kasdan dirigió películas buenas como Jumanji aquí pareciera que no sabe equilibrar tantas cosas y la mayoría del tiempo la película es como si estuviera en piloto automático. Lo más frustrante para mí es que la película mete conceptos interesantes como Krampus y toda una mitología navideña pero luego no hace nada realmente creativo con eso y más bien los usa como una excusa para las secuencias de acción y no para explorar temas más profundos.

It also has problems with humor and pacing, it's too long in some parts and too fast in others and almost at the end everything is resolved too conveniently and quickly. What I did like is when it focuses on the father son relationship between Evans' character and his son, they are a few moments that if they had been used better the film could have had a more focused approach and more potential.

For me Red One could have been a good movie but it got lost and resukltó an experience with an empty emotional part, my score is 6/10, I don't see it xcomo a family entertainment but I do see it as an expensive experiment hehehe, the acting of Evans and Simmons are very good and but the plot does not help and is quickly forgotten. The good things we see Evans who is cute and Simmons playing Santa gymrat, the bad things the CGI looks like it's from my grandmother's time and the plot is convoluted. I thought the cast of the film was fine, I didn't dislike it, with performances where each one did their job, one better than the other. This anime gives a great message about the bond of friendship, intense emotions, and many more feelings included. Actually, my niece warned me about how sad this anime was, but I didn't believe her; however, right now, I can truly understand. I am drowning in lots of bittersweet feelings. This anime broke my heart and made me heal at the same time. Of course, it has a happy ending, but throughout the story, everything was depressing.

If you're looking for a short anime, then this would be the best choice. It has only 1 season, and it is satisfying; you won't need another season.

Nowhere is this shift more evident than in the two-part Season 5 finale, beginning with “Partners and Other Strangers,” a symbolic crossroads that exposed the tension between the show’s auteurist roots and its commercial recalibration. This episode, while retaining traces of the series’ signature moral complexity, leans heavily on soap-operatic twists and nostalgic callbacks, marking a departure from the documentary-style authenticity that once set Homicide apart.

In the end, Partners and Other Strangers epitomises the contradictions of Homicide’s twilight years. It is an episode torn between honoring its legacy and chasing the ephemeral allure of mainstream appeal. While its exploration of loyalty, betrayal, and institutional rot remains compelling, the reliance on sensational reveals and nostalgia-baiting callbacks dilutes the show’s once-unshakable integrity. For longtime viewers, it serves as a bittersweet elegy for a show that once redefined the police procedural—yet its concessions to commercialism render it a pale shadow of its former self. As a bridge between eras, it is a flawed but fascinating artifact, revealing the cost of compromise in the unforgiving terrain of network television.

Ryan Coogler no es primera vez que trabaja con Michael B. Jordan, ya lo hizo en Creed y Black Panther. La característica primordial en todas ellas, incluyendo este film, es la exaltación de la cultura afroamericana, de darle un lugar en el cine que se merezca y que eso no sea gracias al qué dirán de las redes sociales o simplemente el buscar quedar bien con todo el mundo. Las películas como Sinners tienen éxito porque son reales y no hay nada impuesto; este es el camino a seguir si se quieren hacer cosas de calidad en una industria del cine que cada día que pasa va más y más en decadencia absoluta en donde lo que está predominando es la falta de creatividad y originalidad.

Tenemos a los hermanos gemelos Smoke y Stack, ambos interpretados por Michael B. Jordan, quienes regresan a sus orígenes, el Delta del Misisipi, después de haber estado en Chicago trabajando para nada más y nada menos que Al Capone. Ellos son veteranos de guerra por lo que su fama los antecede, todo el mundo los conoce y saben de los que son capaces. Regresaron para comenzar de cero con una idea por todo lo alto, abrir una cantina para toda la comunidad negra. Lo que no saben los hermanos es que aquel lugar no es el mismo y es que en él hay un mal acechando y oculto.

La película es una mezcla de varios géneros pero lo realmente bueno es que todos se complementan a la perfección. Tenemos el terror, suspenso, comedia, acción y gore, ese que no puede faltar para dar el toque visual y exaltar a un más la trama. Pero esto, más allá de ser el típico film de vampiros, es una historia de resistencia y dignidad y la forma en cómo estas personas podían expresar esos sentimientos era a través de la musica, del blues en este caso. Nombro esto porque la banda sonora es espectacular, hay par de escenas musicales que son increíbles y que embelesan al espectador. Dicho esto podríamos decir que el musical es otro de los géneros que conforman Sinners.

La historia se divide en dos partes, hay que tener en cuenta que dura más dos horas. El principio es para dar contexto de quien es quien, de donde vienen, las relaciones que hay entre todos los personajes. También está el contexto cultural y social, todo esto nos ayudará a entender dónde estamos parados en lo que sociedad se refiere. Cronológicamente estos en la década de los 30. Y la segunda parte es donde llega toda la acción y el gore desencadenado, la noche se tiñe de rojo con la presencia de estos vampiros de los que no se sabe mucho pero si que tienen entre las personas mucho tiempo.

Otro factor muy cool es lo paranormal y las creencias en aquellos tiempos. Al blues nos lo muestran como una puerta de conexión con el más allá, de hecho la escena principal dentro de la cantina tiene que ver mucho con eso. Hay una sensibilidad importante acá y eso se nota en pantalla. La combinación entre lo sobrenatural y los vampiros siempre será muy top de ver y analizar. Acá hay de eso porque estas criaturas son vistas como espíritus atrapados en el plano terrenal y la unica salvacion es liberarlos para siempre. Como les había comentado, hay muchos matices en Sinners y todos ellos van de la mano a la perfección.

El nivel de actuación es de alta calidad. Lo hecho por Jordan es brutal, interpretar a dos personajes tan diferentes, porque Smoke y Stack son profundamente distintos, es algo muy complicado y que eso se note en pantalla tiene valor. El cast es bueno, actores como Omar Benson Miller, Delroy Lindo y Hailee Steinfeld tienen papeles estelares que sobresalen y que están muy bien logrados. Cada personaje tiene su magia, desarrollados al detalle hace que no te quedes con la duda de quien es quien y de que como son sus personalidades. En fin, una película muy buena en donde de manera inexplicable se unen el racismo, la esclavitud, la resiliencia y la cultura afroamericana con el terror y lo sobrenatural de los vampiros. 9/10. Creo que será de lo mejor del año. Les dejo el tráiler por acá abajo.

Baywatch (2017)

The movie Baywatch made its way to the big screen in 2017. It's an R-rated comedic reboot of the beloved 90s television phenomenon. Baywatch stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the legendary Mitch Buchannon and Zac Efron as the disgraced Olympic swimmer Matt Brody. The film brought along with it a dose of modern humor into the familiar premise.

Things somewhat get disrupted by the arrival of Matt Brody, a gifted but arrogant swimmer forced into community service with Baywatch. Mitch and Brody had a hard time getting along at first. Mitch saw Brody as reckless while Brody saw Mitch’s duties as a lifeguard to be beneath him. I was just hilarious how Mitch kept calling calling Brody ‘Highschool musical’, making a reference to the actual film simply because Zac Efron starred in it.

The movie gives a bit of a twist as it deviates from typical beach rescues into thrusting the lifeguards into a more action-oriented narrative. They uncover a criminal conspiracy involving a ruthless real estate mogul, Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra), who is smuggling a new synthetic drug onto the beach and attempting to buy up property to control the bay. It just seemed to me like they were kind of trying to blend the film with a modern, "21 Jump Street" comedic action formula.

Dwayne Johnson delivers his usual charm and physical comedy, and Zac Efron commits fully to the role of the arrogant but ultimately redeemable Matt Brody. Priyanka Chopra did her best on her path as playing the villainess role in the movie. It's actually the first time I've ever seen her act along that line and it wasn't really bad.

I found it really impressive that the film became a commercial success, grossing $177.9 million worldwide against a budget of $65–69 million. The film managed to find an audience, likely drawn by the star power of Johnson and Efron, and perhaps it aroused the curiosity of people given the "Baywatch" name.

I found Baywatch as a movie that had all the ingredients for fun. It has its downsides for sure, but they were overshadowed by the good ones. I give Baywatch 7/10. If you haven't checked it out you'll be doing yourself a favor by doing so.
