  1. (Review) American Psycho - It is the forerunner of the Sigma revolution [EN/ES]@fabian981213d

Being Sigma is fashionable... This as weird and unusual as it sounds seems to be so, being a sigma man or woman is fashionable, especially in social networks like TikTok, many users trying to be sigmas with different situations, but they do it only for comedy purposes. But have you wondered like me, what is sigma and where does it all come from? Well, being sigma is just a concept used in seduction and personal development theory to refer to an individual who does not conform to traditional social roles and prefers to live independently and focus on their own goals instead of following society's expectations. It's like the Herbalife salesman or the one who sells pots of smoke on the internet.

And this trend of being a sigma comes mainly from the 2000 movie American Psycho, where we are shown how is the life of a real sigma, which far from being scary is even hilarious and funny. And it is from this movie where Christian Bale gives an impressive performance that I want to talk about today. Since this movie is a reference to today's popular culture.

American Psycho follows the life of Patrick Bateman, a seemingly successful Wall Street banker who leads a double life as a serial killer. As he becomes immersed in violence, Bateman loses control of his life and his mind, leading him to question his own reality and his place in society. Where he will do everything he can to stand out and eliminate the competition.

In addition to its controversial content, American Psycho is an incredibly visually stunning and aesthetically impressive film. Mary Harron's direction and Andrzej Sekula's cinematography create a world of bright, vibrant colors that contrast with the dark nature of Patrick Bateman's character.

The stunning soundtrack to "American Psycho" is a masterpiece in itself. Each carefully selected song elevates the tense, dark atmosphere of the film to a new level. Catchy 80's tunes provide an ironic contrast to the underlying violence that lurks in every scene. Pop, techno and rock music are skillfully used to underline the protagonist's state of mind and to create a unique emotional experience for the viewer. In addition, iconic songs by artists such as Phil Collins and Huey Lewis and the News reflect the emptiness and superficiality of the era in which the film is set. Ultimately, the soundtrack to "American Psycho" is not only a vital tool in setting the tone and mood of the film, but is a shining example of how music can enrich cinematic art and take the viewer to a deeper level of understanding and emotion.

But the real strength of American Psycho lies in its ability to question the norms and values of society at large. Through the lens of Patrick Bateman's character, the film exposes the superficiality and lack of morality often found in the corporate and Wall Street worlds. It also questions society's obsession with appearance, wealth and social status, suggesting that these things are empty and without real value.

But beyond social criticism, American Psycho is a film that remains relevant today because of its exploration of human nature and what it means to be truly human. Despite his psychotic behavior, Patrick Bateman is a complex and multi-dimensional character, struggling with his own inner demons and sense of identity.

The film challenges the viewer to question his or her own preconceived ideas about morality, violence and sexuality, and to confront the dark realities of human life. It is a film that challenges the audience to look beyond the glossy surfaces and deceptive appearances, and to recognize the deeper, darker truths that lie beneath.

American Psycho is a film that has left an indelible mark on popular culture and film history. It is a bold and provocative work that challenges the expectations of conventional cinema, while also offering a social critique and an exploration of human nature. It is a film that is as relevant today as it was when it was released, and will remain a key work in the world of cinema. In fact, many films today start from the idea of American Psycho, where killing is as natural as breathing.

But have you seen American Psycho? What did you think of it? Let me know your opinion in the comments and I'll be happy to read them :D

  2. American Psycho || The transition of a normal-looking person into an abnormality!@cute-cactus1337d

I watched a movie that can be considered as one of the masterpieces... The movie was made in 2000 and is called American Psycho.

    [source](https://www.themoviedb.org/t/p/w533_and_h300_bestv2/bneUTWFAcVCdsb0O5UwZbJd8xqZ.jpg)

It tells the story of a psychologically troubled and extremely narcissistic man's struggle full of contradictions between suppressing and revealing his emotions while living a high-class life in his professional and private life.

The desire to kill at night, the unstoppable emotions of a man who finds sexual satisfaction in inflicting pain on his partner overflow into the daytime and take over his entire life, made for a very interesting movie to watch.

It shows the frightening aspect of schizophrenic behavior after the pressure of living the truth too much and having difficulty distinguishing between the real and the unreal after a while.

    [source](https://www.themoviedb.org/t/p/w500_and_h282_face/talvnlpYYFLzrCmYkCy8D12TveT.jpg)

Christian Bale's performance as Patrick Bateman, a man with a narcissistic attitude and a very different dual personality in one body, was superb. His performance as a serial killer who is a highly successful character in his education and work during the day, and a serial killer who falls prey to his sexual desires and killing instinct at night, is beyond perfect.

I think it would not be wrong to say that humans are the creatures with the most advanced camouflage skills. Moreover, there is no need for physical change to camouflage the personality. Any emotion or thought that is suppressed in the mind and unknown to others is harmless as long as it does not turn into action... but after a while, when it becomes difficult to suppress it and it comes out, the word "horror" becomes inadequate both for others and for oneself.

    [source](https://www.themoviedb.org/t/p/w500_and_h282_face/9SZCbF3OzmoUZsNtRyn6BsNbwv5.jpg)

If we had the chance to know what goes on in the minds of those we normally think of as good people, would we really think that they are good people? The answer remains a meaningless and useless question...

...but when they start to realize what they have in mind - the answer becomes a very important question.

...and the answer causes the victim and the murderer (schizophrenic-narcissist-masochist) to be in the same place at the same time. That's why one side is the victim and the other side is the murderer.

One of the most important side effects of the movie is that it makes us question whether we really know the people we know. For example, a respectable person from any profession who is extremely calm and able to control his anger can turn into an extreme fanatic - someone who has lost himself - someone who sees the opponent as an enemy while watching his favorite team play.

I kept the example simple, but it could be a serial killer.

    [source](https://www.themoviedb.org/t/p/w500_and_h282_face/3K2EBHo9z3rcCfSl5d0nkgkVqhO.jpg)

One of my favorite scenes in American Psycho was the dialog between respected and important businessmen competing for business cards. It was bizarre how they were dealing with the finest details, from the choice of color to the type of writing on the business card. Considering that the movie is set in the 1980s, this would probably not be considered strange, but would be equated with the telephones of today.

The movie should definitely be watched both for the dialogues and for seeing a normal-looking person's transition to abnormality. After watching it, we will definitely observe our surroundings more carefully for a while!

American Psycho was released in 2000, based on the novel of the same name written by Bret Easton Ellis, directed by Mary Harron and produced by Edward R. Pressman Productions, has a duration of 1 hour and 41 minutes. It is a film of horror and black humor, the story focuses on Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) who belongs to high society so he knows firsthand that status and prestige are the most important thing within the social circle in which he moves, his friends Timothy Bryce (Justin Theroux), David Van Patten (Bill Sage) and Craig McDermott (Josh Lucas) are other individuals belonging to that world of wealthy people. The fact of focusing on banal things like entertainment does not satisfy Patrick so he will find it very enjoyable to give free rein to his most bloodthirsty side.

I like the use of the soundtrack since it manages to keep pace with the different twists that the plot gives, thus adapting to the different events contemplated by the film and making them more remarkable with an adequate musical accompaniment.

The construction of the world captures a perspective of the life of high society, being its members highly frivolous and lacking any gram of empathy, leaving people who focus their attention on banalities such as business cards or different excesses. All this leaves an atmosphere that focuses on individualism and passes over any kind of feeling that an average person may feel, being a perfect context that desires and manages to capture people of great resources as insensitive and highly obsessed with their own status and that of the people around them.

The plot is pleasant, it is focused on Patrick and follows his different actions, the interesting thing about this is the fact that everything becomes increasingly morbid and bloody from one moment to the next, since its main objective is to show the psychological degeneration of the protagonist in a spiral of decadence that seems to have no end. I would say that the most remarkable thing that the narrative presents is the use of small details that are subtle but that when you notice them completely changes the perspective you have on the film, this is because it invites you to question if what was shown really happened as it was seen; this is so well worked that it can completely modify the meaning of the end.

    characters.png

    Property by @Jrjaime

The protagonist is achieved in an exceptional way, from the go just to hear his first monologue it is made clear that he is not a normal person because the way he describes both his life and itself is strange; all this is a success since the logic of the character is to show a narcissistic and psychopathic person who goes further and further in order to satisfy his most disturbing whims. The thing does not stop here, since he also deviates and doubts his sanity being something that can again be foreseen by his behavior long before there is no doubt that his ravings are something serious. The rest of the characters are not focused but they seek more to represent a collective, which superimposes individualism and social status over anything else, being insensitive and complete imbeciles in general, who give an exaggerated importance to things only because of their effect on their social condition and lacking the most basic level of empathy; whereas the next sentence david says demonstrates what I say, "Where do we have reservations? I'm not really hungry but I would like to have a reservation" putting the prestige of having something first and foremost.

American Psycho is one of those films that seeks to capture both the insensitivity of a collective and the degeneration of an individual, in addition, and this I consider even more important, it manages to incite the viewer to want to see it again to be able to fully capture all those little things that could be ignored the first time. That is why it deserves 3.5 stars out of 7, the fact that its ending I have multiple interpretations is something that is very appreciated and something for which it should be a cult film.

Hello friends who love cinema, today I want to talk to you about a considered classic of cult cinema. The 2000 film titled "American Psycho" starring Christian Bale and that served as a catapult for larger projects, a film that at the time was considered a kind of commercial flop, and yet over time it gained respect for its script, story and narrative. I will tell you about the highlights and why I like it so much and thus encourage you to see it, for those who have not seen it yet.

The film begins with a monologue by our protagonist, he talks about where he lives and then says his name and age, Patrick Bateman, with this introduction we can clearly see the direction the argument is taking in highlighting material possessions and status above personal identity. Patrick Bateman is a young man who works on Wall Street and it is implied that his family is very powerful. Patrick's environment is the same, successful young people in business but with a deep identity crisis, this crisis is filled with the most extreme hedonism, they are not really about the names but the suits and the positions they hold. Something I must add to this is the attention that Patrick puts in meticulously mentioning the dishes he eats, the drinks he drinks, the outfits he wears, the places he frequents and yet he cannot remember the names of his friends or what they do Really. The material is in the first place, then comes the human and for him, the human is only empty and despicable.

But to better understand this kind of twisted philosophy of these characters we must understand the context and the time in which they live, we are talking about the mid-80s and the film tells us about the excesses of the YUPIE culture, in Latin America these characters were a little different so more information was needed to understand this reality. The Yupies were characterized by excessive materialism and hedonism, only the material mattered, this culture contrasted in the same way with the Reagan Era and Margaret Thatcher, world leaders of conservatism, these young people could be seen as a reflection of the spirit of the times, wave of deregulation of the economy and dismantling of public services, all that was the 80s, so Patrick Bateman from his privileged position felt like a kind of demigod, enjoying the glories of having a great job, that leads him to still feel emptier and unleash what he called his bloodlust.

His spiral of death and blood begins with the murder of a homeless man, I consider this scene important because he takes the first step in becoming a murderer but in doing so he gives a declaration of principles, and this is part of the social criticism that the film makes, based of course on the book, where the narration is more brutal. Here however Patrick Bateman approaches the homeless man and talks to him, but his intention is not to help him but to humiliate him, and in doing so he tells him things like look for a job and stop being a loser, that he could use a change of attitude . These words reflect Patrick's beliefs, and since he judged people through them, with this superiority complex that every narcissist suffers, he justifies his bloodlust. The next step is to kill the homeless man and continue walking like nothing happened, he shows no human emotion other than revulsion, contempt and sadism.

Every good classic always has good dialogues and incredible scenes, but what I will detail next seems memorable to me. The presentation card scene is too good, first of all because many things can be noticed, one of them is that the cards reflect the identity of the characters, but if we pay attention to the details, although each card has a different name , the charge is the same and the telephone number as well. They all aspire to the same position, Patrick is the first to show his card, they talk about the paper and the ink and the font for the letters they use, everyone is surprised, but others start to take out their cards as if it were a game of Poker, Patrick he sees his ego hurt by seeing how others praise the cards of one of his friends.
The second great thing that happens is the appearance of Jared Leto as Paul Allen, I could understand that this character is Patrick's obsession, since he comes dressed in the same outfits, as is customary when greeting Patrick, calls him by another name and invites him to dinner, but not before leaving his card and leaving. Clearly this Paul Allen has an overwhelming personality, he is the one who sets the tone, with just that gesture everyone keeps silent and gets ready to look at the card, when Patrick has it in his hands it completely falls apart, Christian Bales' performance is phenomenal, he he actually feels his stomach churning and his skin starts to sweat with nervousness. Narcissists are like that, praise shots work like a drug and by not having it they suffer a comedown that takes them out of their fantasy world and they start with their erratic behavior. Patrick Bateman reflects it very well and fixes his next target on Paul Allen, he feels the need to kill him to seal the wound of his fragile ego.

Subsequently, the deaths caused by Patrick Bateman reflect his erratic behavior, however the narrative of the story changes significantly, leaving aside the social to focus on more psychological aspects. Very strange scenes happen, for example when he chases a girl with a chainsaw and no one seems to listen and come to her aid, then he leaves the building with a saddlebag walking the corpse leaving a trail of blood and no one seems to notice, then in a brief Confrontation with the police has good aim, because it kills everyone easily, like a video game, but the most laughable thing is that it shoots at a patrol car and it flies away as if it had thrown a grenade. All of this, which follows the logic of a dream, makes us understand that Patrick has serious problems in his head, we cannot trust his reality, so most or perhaps all of the deaths have been a product of his imagination. This ambiguity raised by the director of the film seemed masterful to me, I think that Joaquin Phoenix's Joker movie has a lot of inspiration in this film, only that instead of being a successful young man, the protagonist is someone considered a failed loser by society , not for something is also set in the 80s.

The final scene is phenomenal and it only increases that line that separates reality from illusion, but I will not comment on it so that you can see it. I think this movie is great, a true gem that represents the spirit of those days, as well as "Ellos Viven" by Jhon Carpenter, where capitalist materialism, hedonism and excesses are criticized while the most vulnerable in society are abandoned. This movie adds the psychological issues that can also trigger certain stressful environments. Christian Bale makes you believe the level of psychopathy his character suffers from and clearly you can't trust what his lips say. With nothing more to add, I recommend it with my eyes closed, it is enjoyable from beginning to end, and the best thing is the black and acid humor that accompanies the representations of each character. I say goodbye soon, I hope you liked it.

  6. American Psycho (2000) Movie Review@gonklavez92115d

    Movie Thumbnail.jpg

There's rarely such a dramatic, chilling and shocking film as American Psycho graced the silver screen. In this similarly high-brow and grotesque analysis of the ultimate yuppie, Mary Harron crosses those frontiers that few directors have been bold enough to move past.

Above all, it's most disturbing that the funniest moments of the film aren't the liquor-drenched cocktail parties we're used to laughing at, but rather the grotesque murders that the audience has usually cringed at.

Like Alfred Hitchcock, Harron opts to film her scenes of love and murder in much the same way. Patrick Bateman (a beautifully creepy Christian Bale), the protagonist, dominates these sections of the film, receiving equal pleasure from sexual gratification and ending existence. Bateman is much more relaxed than the woman he has sex with, or the person he murders so that he can pay meticulous attention to specifics of those activities. He knows the most thrilling positions and knows which tactics make a mess less than others.

And at any level, the main character of the film is not a master. He leaves intimate partners in pain and is often at odds over murders. Isn't Bateman fine. Instead, he is an egotistical Harvard graduate with facial goods of salon standard and a profound resentment of those with better business cards or a more luxurious apartment than his.

American Psycho opens against a white backdrop with black credits and what appears to be blood running down the screen. The red drops are proving to be something else, but the illusion is still powerful. This sets the tone for a movie in which many things aren't as they manifest to be, and their presence is sometimes more compelling than their actual being.

However, one undeniable thing is the setting of the image. Harron's adaptation of the novel by Bret Easton Ellis (which I confess I haven't read) depicts a Manhattan of the upper class which only has some truths today but was very accurate in the 1980s. It's a place where a person's willingness to swing last-minute reservations reflects on their standing, making a suit is always speculated at write-off lunches (paying for platinum credit cards, of course) and sexual assault isn't a big deal.

Bateman warns his coworkers that he's "just not there" and "absolutely nuts." But these words fall on deaf ears. As he chases a young girl to protect his newly used sexual organ with nothing more than a chainsaw, it is evident that Bateman is indeed an American psycho. He has moments of grace, moments of genius and moments when he appears to be nothing more than a painting. The film possesses identical features.

But, in the end, it is the moments that stand out when the movie reaches greatness. Nevertheless, the picture presented to many viewers not prepared for such an intellectual bloodbath could well be one of insanity.

  7. American Psycho on Netflix@netflixr2123d

This movie is not new by any means. It comes from a time when most people had no idea who Christian Bale actually was and he was new on the scene. This movie was actually considering hiring DiCaprio for the lead and in the end decided to go with Bale, which I think was a very good move.

I believe it is one of the best Bale films out there and it is absolutely filled with one-liners that you are going to want to use with strangers to determine if they are cool or not.

Originally released 20 years ago in a distant time we like to call the turn of the millennium. I was alive on both sides of this thing and actually read the Bret Easton's book by the same name sometime in the middle of the 90's. As legend has it, Oliver Stone (who was the original choice for director of this film) actually really wanted Leo for this role but Leo ended up choosing to do The Beach instead, which is a terrible movie of monumental proportions. When DiCaprio bailed (pun intended,) Stone also did so and relatively unknown director Mary Harron took over and Christian was cast in the lead role of Patrick Bateman.

Thank goodness it happened though because Christian Bale's performance in this film is nothing short of extraordinary.

    comicconAmerican_PsychoFullImage_GalleryBackgroundenUS1483994504848.SX1080.jpg src

This movie is all about what all college graduates aspire to. You are successful, you are rich, you are good-looking and you work really hard to ensure that all of these things remain in place. You appear happy to everyone that knows you yet on the inside you are terribly unhappy with your life to the point where you start to nitpick things that other people would consider to be of little consequence and they drive you crazy if they aren't "just so."

Is this a case of the career driving the person insane or the insane person being duly qualified for the position based on his insanity? The movie doesn't talk about this directly but it has you thinking about it after the fact.

Christian Bale didn't receive a great deal of praise for this role and sadly, it wasn't until directing hack Christopher Nolan got a hold of him for Batman that Bale's true potential was recognized / realized by the movie-making machine that is Hollywood.

    [src](https://theplaylist.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/American-Psycho-Christian-Bale-750x400.jpg)

In American Psycho, Patrick Bateman seems to be the type of person that everyone would admire and in many ways that is exactly what is happening. Yet Bateman's own overly criticizing manner about everything in life... which is what has made him successful in the first place, drives him to be overly successful about things outside of work including himself and everyone that he works around and with.

Not only does Bale do an incredible job of playing the gradually-slipping-into-complete-madness role of Patrick extremely well but since he is in charge of a great deal of the narration, he nails that as well.

I don't want to reveal too much about the plot of this movie because there are some key moments that you will not see coming. Some of them were so shocking and graphic that the film was heavily censored or even banned outright in many countries around the world because this is the quintessential "glorification of violence film" if there ever was one.

Somehow, most people haven't seen this film but it is on Netflix now and honestly, I would bypass a great deal of the new releases (because most of them are awful) and instead head straight towards this gem from 20 years ago. If you end up regretting it, I would be genuinely surprised.

    Should I watch it?

Absolutely. This is a film that I go back to and re-watch many times and when I meet people that have no idea that Bale was an actor prior to Batman I have to send them straight to this. It didn't make a ton of money because it was just too violent for the people in the year 2000. As long as you aren't going to be bothered by that, this movie is just so much better than 90% of anything Bale has been in ever since.

Despite being a horror film, which divided the criticism, it seems to me a very good film and more because I see a social criticism of the Wall Street businessman in the 80s, so I see it more as a work of black humor as such.

If this opinion does not seem very correct to you, look at how this movie and every aspect of it criticizes American society (gyms, money, restaurants and so on). The credit card scene enacts what I mean.

The first thing is to talk about the performance of Christian Bale, who is Patrick Bateman, doing a job that touches perfection. This actor moves very well with eccentric characters as we have seen him throughout his career.

To see it you have to get mental, since I really think it is more funny than horror. If we look at all the murders, they are all absurd, mostly because of the stupidity of the victims (the chainsaw scene is the one that best exemplifies this).

Another thing is that it is not very faithful to the original novel, although it exemplifies very well the highest moments of it (I have not read the novel yet, although many critics agreed on this).

  9. American Psycho (film): seriously fun thriller@gooddream2859d

Having seen this film multiple times and read the book it is difficult for me to imagine that the casting director's other options for the lead role were Johnny Depp and Leo DiCaprio. Thank goodness that didn't happen as I can't really imagine anyone other than Bale in the lead.

    MPW-114774.jpg

Despite the fact that Christian Bale has been an actor his entire life, he was relatively unknown in the year 2000. This is why other, bigger stars were being considered. If you have only seen Bale as Batman, you really should get in there and see this "black comedy horror" film where he basically plays the opposite of Batman.

Bale plays Patrick Bateman (that's right, "Bateman"), a very successful Wall Street investor with a few, how do i say this... issues. He is obsessive about most things in his life, doing odd things such as go back to the locker room before working out at the gym to apply more mousse because his hair isn't "just perfect." He obsesses over the fact that one of his coworkers has slightly nicer business cards than he does, and of course he really really like Huey Lewis and the News.

    00-batman-american-psycho-reelgood_1000_420_90_c1.jpeg

I don't want to be one of those guys that says "the book was so much better!" because I hate those guys. I tend to agree with Jim Gaffigan when he says "You know what i liked about the movie more than the book? No reading."

However, i felt as though the film was a close enough facsimile of the book that even the most dedicated fans would really struggle to find fault with it.

Other than Empire of the Sun, this is the first movie i really recall seeing Bale. It may have been what launched his career and eventually landed him the role as Batman. I thought it was a bit strange to have comic relief in a movie this dark but to be honest, i really works. Oh, the film is quite graphic so don't watch it with the kids around or your parents around if you are a kid.

I can find no fault with this movie and provided you are not turned off by ultra-violence (and there is plenty of it inside American Psycho) I think you will like it
