I have a mix of emotions after watching the Netflix series, on one hand it filled me with a great feeling of nostalgia and on the other hand I feel incomplete 😄 is that I can't believe they stopped the project just in the third season Why? It's not fair, the series was going really well, but at least I'm left with the very pleasant feeling that Matthew will be with Anne forever.
Tengo una mezcla de emociones luego de haber visto la serie de Netflix, por un lado me llenó de un gran sentimiento de nostalgia y por otro me siento incompleta 😄 es que no puedo creer que hayan detenido el proyecto justo en la tercera temporada ¿Por queeeeeeeeeé? No es justo, la serie iba muy bien, pero al menos me quedo con la gratísima sensación de que Matthew estará con Anne por siempre.
Overview/Resumen
Anne is an orphan girl who arrived by mistake to the Cuthbert brothers' house, because they wanted to adopt a boy instead of a girl, someone who could help them with the farm, but in the orphanage they made a mistake and sent Ann. At the beginning Marilla (the older sister of the two Cuthbert brothers) decides to return the girl, but she regrets when she sees that she would be very unhappy, and as time goes by Anne wins the heart, not only of her new adoptive parents but of all Avonlea because she has a very peculiar personality, especially for the time in which she lives, she is an inveterate lover of literature and values very much the power of imagination.
Anne es una niña huérfana que llegó por error a casa de los hermanos Cuthbert, pues ellos deseaban adoptar a un chico en lugar de una chica, alguien que pudiera ayudarlos con la granja, pero en el orfanato se equivocaron y enviaron a Ann. Al inicio Marilla (la hermana mayor de los dos hermanos Cuthbert) decide regresar a la niña, pero se arrepiente al ver que ella sería muy infeliz, y con el paso del tiempo Anne se gana el corazón, no solo de sus nuevos padres adoptivos sino de todo Avonlea pues ella tiene una personalidad muy peculiar, sobre todo para la época en que vive, es una amante empedernida de la literatura y valora mucho el poder de la imaginación.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
I think this is the first time that an audiovisual product exceeds my expectations with respect to the original literary version, and honestly this series is very well done, not only in terms of the script (despite all the changes I feel it still retains much of the original essence of the story) the new characters were very well written and developed to fit perfectly with the rest of the characters, the costumes were wonderful and the characterization was unbeatable, so much so that they made Amybeth McNulty (Anne) look 13 years old when she was actually 15, although in the original version she was only 11.
Creo que es la primera vez que un producto audiovisual supera mis expectativas con respecto a la versión original, la literaria, y es que honestamente está muy bien hecha esta serie, no solo en cuanto al guion (a pesar de todos los cambios siento que aún conserva muchísimo de la esencia original de la historia) los nuevos personajes estuvieron muy bien escritos y desarrollados para que encajaran perfectamente con el resto de personajes, el vestuario estuvo maravilloso y la caracterización insuperable, tanto que lograron que Amybeth McNulty (Anne) se viera de 13 años cuando en realidad tenía 15, aunque en la versión original solo tenía 11.
To meet the new standards, the series appeals to inclusion by incorporating some characters that were not in the book, but I must admit that they did it within the framework of logic and reality of the environment and the time in which they live, for example we have Sebastian Lacroix who everyone affectionately calls "Bash", he and his wife had to deal with the prejudices of their time, the series shows you in a realistic way the different opinions that existed regarding black people, it tells us about racial segregation and how it was hard for them to make their way in the world, on the other hand we are shown characters more open to new concepts such as Gilbert and Miss Stacy, but I want to talk about her later. At the same time we can see how the issue of homosexuality was perceived back then, although I honestly don't agree with this version of Josephine being transformed into a homosexual character just because she was single in the original version, but I liked how they used Cole Mackenzie's character (new character) to illustrate how difficult it was for these people to fit into society back then, in a world that was not always understanding, he struggles to try to accept himself as he is and both he and Anne are very supportive of each other.
Para cumplir con los nuevos estándares, la serie apela a la inclusión al incorporar algunos personajes que no estaban en el libro, pero debo reconocer que lo hicieron dentro del marco de la lógica y la realidad del entorno y la época en que viven, por ejemplo tenemos a Sebastian Lacroix a quienes todos por cariño llaman "Bash", él y su esposa debieron lidiar con los prejuicios propios de su época, la serie te muestra de manera realista las diferentes opiniones que existían respecto a las personas negras, nos habla de la segregación racial y como les costó a ellos abrirse camino en el mundo, por otra parte nos muestran personajes más abiertos a nuevos conceptos como Gilbert y la señorita Stacy, pero de ella quiero hablar más adelante. Al mismo tiempo podemos ver como se percibía en ese entonces el tema de la homosexualidad, aunque honestamente no estoy de acuerdo con que a esta versión de Josephine la hayan transformado en un personaje homosexual solo porque era soltera en la versión original, pero me gustó como usaron el personaje de Cole Mackenzie (nuevo personaje) para ilustrar lo difícil que era para estas personas encajar en la sociedad en ese entonces, en un mundo que no siempre era comprensivo, él lucha por tratar de aceptarse a sí mismo como es y tanto él como Anne se brindan mucho apoyo mutuo.
Anne is an unusual character who does not seem to fit the standards of the traditional and conservative Avonlea, she is too talkative and dreamy, her head is full of ideas that at first seem unconnected, she invents characters and even an alter-ego (Princess Cordelia) but this is nothing more than a resource that she has used for years to try to evade the pain of loneliness and the mistreatment received in the orphanage and foster families. On the other hand, Anne's imagination made me remember my childhood years so much because despite the fact that I had a much more privileged childhood than the character, I was too imaginative, I created situations and characters that were companions in a lonely life since I was an only child at that time. But Anne is a girl equipped for life, she knows how to solve situations that many adults find difficult, she thinks quickly and reacts according to logic because she has trained her mind to do so, reading has made her astute and avid, it has given her an extensive and rich vocabulary while nourishing her dreamy and free soul, while adversity has taught her lessons to act according to each situation.
Anne es un personaje fuera de lo común que parece no encajar con los estándares de la tradicional y conservadora Avonlea, es demasiado locuaz y soñadora, su cabeza está llena de ideas que al principio parecen inconexas, inventa personajes y hasta un alter-ego (la princesa Cordelia) pero esto no es más que un recurso que ella ha utilizado por años para tratar de evadir el dolor de la soledad y los malos tratos recibidos en el orfanato y las familias sustitutas. Por otra parte la imaginación de Anne me hizo recordar tanto mis años de infancia ya que a pesar de que yo tuve una infancia mucho más privilegiada que el personaje, yo era demasiado imaginativa, creaba situaciones y personajes que eran compañeros en una vida solitaria ya que era hija única en ese entonces. Pero Anne es una niña equipada para la vida, sabe resolver situaciones que a muchos adultos les cuesta, piensa rápido y reacciona de acuerdo a la lógica porque ha entrenado su mente para ello, la lectura la ha hecho astuta y ávida, le ha otorgado un extenso y rico vocabulario al tiempo que ha alimentado su alma soñadora y libre, mientras que las adversidades le han dado lecciones para actuar de acuerdo con cada situación.
Miss Stacy is my favorite character for being an irreverent character, defender of the rights of students and women in a time when women really lacked value in society, she was not a rebel without a cause, on the contrary, she had very clear ideas and convictions, Miss Stacy represents the arrival of a new era, of the new century, she is the door to the knowledge of new trends, technology, fashion, progress and changes, but as I say, this character is not placed at random, nor do they make us understand that it has been easy for her, on the contrary, it shows us the difficulties that women with free thought faced in a time with mostly sexist ideas and closed thinking. Stacy takes her job very seriously, she is not a behaviorist like the previous teacher was, instead she appeals to listen to her students and prepare them for real life, her classes are dynamic, fun and above all useful, she defends her ideas with actions, not just words, in fact I remember with special admiration the episode where all the students of Avonlea, led by Anne (as it could not be otherwise) showed the community how much they had learned from their teacher and how much they valued that teaching, especially how useful the electricity experiment was.
La señorita Stacy es mi personaje favorito por ser un personaje irreverente, defensora de los derechos de los estudiantes y las mujeres en una época en que realmente las mujeres carecían de valor ante la sociedad, ella no era una rebelde sin causa, al contrario, tenía muy claras sus ideas y convicciones, la señorita Stacy representa la llegada de una nueva era, del nuevo siglo, es la puerta al conocimiento de nuevas tendencias, la tecnología, la moda, el progreso y los cambios, pero tal como les digo, este personaje no está puesto al azar, ni tampoco nos hacen entender que ha sido fácil para ella, al contrario, nos muestra las dificultades a las que se enfrentaban las mujeres con un libre pensamiento en una época con ideas mayormente machistas y un pensamiento cerrado. Stacy se toma su trabajo muy enserio, no es conductista como sí lo era el anterior maestro, ella en cambio apela a escuchar a sus estudiantes y prepararlos para la vida real, sus clases son dinámicas, divertidas y sobre todo útiles, defiende sus ideas con acciones, no solo con palabras, de hecho recuerdo con especial admiración el episodio donde todos los alumnos de Avonlea, liderados por Anne (como no podía ser de otra manera) le demostraron a la comunidad cuanto habían aprendido de su maestra y cuanto valoraban esa enseñanza, sobre todo lo útil que resultó el experimento de la electricidad.
I love the character development in this series, but I especially like how siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert learn to see life after Anne's arrival. Matthew, once so reserved and shy, learns to defend his ideas and goes from being a loner to Anne's accomplice. Marilla, for her part, begins to open and expand her mind more and more. At first, she appears secretive and reticent, but lets her heart fill with emotions and, although it's still difficult for her, sometimes lets those emotions out, recognizing that Anne was the most beautiful mistake that came to Green Gables, a right mistake that has made her very happy and that she definitely wouldn't know how to live without her.
Amo el desarrollo de personajes que tiene esta serie, pero en especial me gusta como los hermanos Matthew y Marilla Cuthbert aprenden a ver la vida luego de la llegada de Anne, Matthew, antes tan reservado y tímido aprende a defender sus ideas y pasa de ser un solitario a cómplice de Anne, Marilla por su parte comienza a abrir y expandir su mente cada vez más, al inicio se muestra hermética y reticente pero deja que su corazón se llene de emociones e incluso, aunque aún le cuesta, algunas veces deja salir esas emociones, reconociendo que Anne fue la más hermosa equivocación que llegó a Tejas verdes, una acertada equivocación que la ha hecho muy feliz y que definitivamente ya no sabría vivir sin ella.
Well, I think this is all I have to say about the series, besides the fact that I deeply regret its cancellation because it was really interesting, I would have liked to know more about Ka'kwet (someone I forgot to mention before) she is Anne's indigenous friend, a true Native American (North American), an inclusive character as well, who serves to show us the reality of how these people who only wanted to live in peace and harmony with nature were treated, but not only were they stripped of their territory, but they were called savages, humiliated and tried to make them forget their language, culture and religion.
Y bien, creo que esto es todo lo que tengo que decir sobre la serie, además de que lamento profundamente su cancelación porque realmente estuvo interesantísimo, me hubiese gustado saber más acerca de Ka'kwet (alguien que olvidé mencionar antes) ella es la amiga indígena de Anne, una verdadera nativa americana (norteamericana) un personaje inclusivo también, que sirve para mostrarnos la realidad acerca de como eran tratadas estas personas que solo querían vivir en paz y armonía con la naturaleza, pero no solo fueron despojados de su territorio, sino que los llamaron salvajes, los humillaron y pretendieron hacer que olvidaran su idioma, cultura y religión.
Now I say goodbye with the hope that at some point you decide to continue the series and given that you took some creative liberties with the script I would love for you to overlook Matthew's death because it would be terrible to lose him in the series too, anyway, thank you very much for reading my review, I hope you give the series a chance because it is totally worth it, it is a relaxing experience, especially if you like the cottage and bohemian style as much as I do 🤗 😉
Ahora sí me despido con la esperanza de que en algún momento decidan continuar la serie y en vista de que se tomaron algunas libertades creativas con el guion me encantaría que pasaran por alto la muerte de Matthew porque sería terrible perderlo en la serie también, en fin, muchas gracias por leer mi review, espero que le den una oportunidad a la serie porque vale totalmente la pena, es toda la una experiencia relajante, sobre todo si te gusta tanto el estilo cottage y bohemio como yo 🤗 😉
