  1. Bumblebee (2018) review: Painfully effective.@richardalexis1866d

    Source Separador.png

Bumblebee is a movie whose very existence is already offensive, why? Because it shows that all the Transformers that came before make no sense, because they were opaque by a fairly average blockbuster that even in its most mediocre moments manages to overcome them.

Michael Bay is the master of the show, there is no doubt about that, Transformers was a surprising display of special effects and shots that, although they were not very clear, did demonstrate a technical capacity that was on another level. What was the problem then? This show lacks heart, we do not connect with its characters, humans or aliens, the plot is difficult to follow, and the most worrying thing: even if it was easy to do, we are not interested.

    [Source](https://www.hobbyconsolas.com/noticias/primeras-reacciones-bumblebee-destacan-su-vuelta-origenes-342665)

Bumblebee seems to repeat the formula, with the difference that this time he hits the brakes and lets us absorb everything with much more delicacy, ironically, although it is not loaded with so much action, the moments that do require it end up being much more shocking.

It has a much more intimate nature, and although it has a large-scale alien and military conflict, the important thing is in its protagonist girl "Charlie", and the relationship she forges with Bee.

Of course, Bumblebee is generic and predictable, he never takes narrative or visual risks, he is attractive if the 80s aesthetic suits him, but he does not seek to reinvent the wheel in terms of plot.

    Source

This predictability does not bother, on the contrary, it covers the film with an indescribable comfort, a familiarity that makes every moment pleasant.

On the negative side, it seems that Bay's traces (although few and fuzzy in terms of internal canon) are part of the heaviest part of the film, the decepticons turn out to have a boring presence, which does not benefit at all by coming together. with dumb military men.

Bumblebee is what to expect and a bit more, it definitely feels more comfortable in your skin than any Bay tape, and it has a much more pleasant cast than anything that came before, I also highlight how the autobots and decepticons embrace a design more faithful to the animated series and original toys, for those who grew up with them, it will undoubtedly be a plus.

    Source

Also do not think that the change in focus has led you to neglect the special effects, for the most part, they are impressive.

The soundtrack is also quite pleasant, and a long but measured film length end up closing the deal on a solid and fun product, we do not call it a masterpiece and neither do we seek to be one.

    [Source](https://www.hobbyconsolas.com/noticias/primeras-reacciones-bumblebee-destacan-su-vuelta-origenes-342665)

  2. Bumblebee Review@trumpman2658d

So, I just finished Bumblebee, the latest transformers film.

I didn't enjoy it much. Don't get me wrong. I think it's a great movie....if you are 12 or something. It actually felt like a really, really good kids movies with an 80s vibe.

So yeah, watch it if you are a transformers fun but don't expect to enjoy it much if you are 18 or more.

Here's the trailer to get an idea of what to expect:

  3. A Geeky Dad's Movie Guide to Bumblebee (2018)@hanshotfirst2721d

This weekend, my 13 year old son and I went to see Bumblebee. Surprisingly, even though the main human protagonist is an 18 year old girl, my 11 year old daughter had no interest in seeing the film. I have a feeling that she may enjoy watching it on Netflix later this year.

Bumblebee is yet another movie released in 2018 that will make my list of "movies I only need to see once".

Although it is a pretty decent origin story, there is really only one special thing about the entire movie: Hailey Steinfeld. Steinfeld portrays the aforementioned teenager who finds and bonds with the old school VW Beetle version of Bumblebee. Based on her performances in 2010's True Grit and 2016's Edge of Seventeen, Steinfeld is one of my favorite young actresses. Although she did an excellent job of making the audience believe she loved a transforming car like a pet or friend, if you have not seen Steinfeld's performance in those two previous movies, bypass this one and spend your time on those. I can watch either of those repeatedly.

As far as this movie is concerned, it is a basic origin story of an angst-ridden, lonely kid who teams up with an animal/alien/robot in an effort to save the creature... and the world. Think Free Willy + E.T. + Iron Giant... but only if other Iron Giants come to attack.

As ludicrous as it seems, the creators did a fine job of creating an emotional connection between Steinfeld's character and the Transformer. At one point when they were hugging, I was a little touched... and then I said, "Wait. She's hugging a piece of metal!" But that doesn't matter. It's a silly robot movie. I knew what I was getting myself into.

The writers very wisely opened with a fight scene on the Transformers' home planet of Cybertron. After a brief break, the fight moves to earth. As a result, at least 20 of teh first 30 minutes are action sequences. After that, there is the requisite break to establish the characters and the bond between them. Toss in a friend for some romance and comic relief and you have your basic story.

The creative team seemed to try to add some novelty by setting the movie in the 1980s and tossing in the fashion and music of the day. Although it was a clever idea, the music changed so fast that it was a bit overdone. It seemed as if the writer's goal was to include as many edgy and popular songs of the 1980s as possible. For some reason, for the second time this year, the music of The Smiths played a major role in a movie (Ant-Man and the Wasp being the other). As a result of the many song changes, the gimmick got old way too quickly.

This movie follows the very familiar formula of opening with a fight scene, establishing the story and characters, tossing in a minor skirmish and then finishing with an epic "boss battle". Because the special effects are so incredible and there was a giant screen filled with huge robots battling each other, I was never bored. But I don't ever need to see it again. My son seemed to feel the same way.

Technically, there is a mid credit scene. But it starts so fast that you pretty much can't miss it unless you run out of teh theater the second the movie ends. But that is it. There is only the one.

    Geeky Dad's Movie Guide

Number of times I fell asleep: **0** Number of eye rolls: **2** (A couple of parts were too cliche.) Number of face palms: **0** Number of times I checked my phone: **0** (Although it was silly, I was never bored.) Number of times I said "That's ridiculous": **0** (Transforming robots. Enough said.) Did my son like it: **Yes** Would I see it without my kids: **Netflix** Full price/Matinee/Rental/Free/Not worth the time: **Matinee in a decent theater. The effects are the star.**

  4. Bumblebee - Movie Review@coldsteem2740d

Bumblebee is a character-driven film from the Transformers franchise. The film provides the backstory of one of the most beloved characters in the Transformers universe, B-127, known lovingly to fans of the series as Bumblebee. This is a film I have been anticipating since the first trailers started in appearing in theaters months ago. It has been heavily hyped, but is not likely to make the money previous films made in spite of the character chosen to highlight in this film. It was not executed as well as it should have been.

As Decepticons ravaget he autobots home planet, Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) sends Bumblebee (Dylan O'Brien) to Earth to protect the planet as a future home for the autobots. Bumblebee takes the form of an old Volkswagen Beetle, finding refuge in a salvage yard. He is discovered by a teenage girl, Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), who is struggling with the death of her father and finding her own way in the world. When she is gifted the battered car for her eighteenth birthday, she discovers she has been given much more than just a car. She inherets and autobot, the wrath of her parents, the attention of the US Government S-7 Unit and a coming Decepticon invasion. The government is personified as Agent (Colonel) Burns (John Cena). Charlie is aided in her quest to save the planet by her neighbor and fellow geek, Memo (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.).

Bumblebee was written by Christina Hodson. I am not sure how she got the nod to write this film with only two films to her credit at the time. Neither film was successful. The writing was the foundational flaw in Bumblebee failing to reach its full potential. The dialogue was peppered with throw-away lines. It's attempts at humor often fell short of the mark. The narrative felt forced and contrived at times. The characters seemed shallow and in need of a heartbeat. I didn't feel connected. I was sorely disappointed. The pacing (and Hailee Steinfeld) may have been about the only redeeming qualities in this film. Okay, add in the special effects as a redeeming quality. The visual aspects of this film were amazing. The transformations of the autobots and decepticons were seamless and credible. The CGI was flawlessly executed. There are plans for a Bumblebee 2. I sincerely hope someone makes the sage decision to find a new writer. If Hodson gets the nod, I will probably skip it.

The casting for this film was a mixed bag. Oscar-nominee Hailee Steinfeld was perfectly cast in the lead role. She was definitely the bright spot in a film that lacked a heartbeat. I can stomach John Cena in films like Daddy's Home 2, but he has been officially "over-exposed." Cena was horrible in this film. Aside from the fact the writer doesn't know the difference between an agent and a full bird colonel, Cena would not be believable in either role. He may look the part of a badass, but his delivery is as weak as his muscles are solid. He has awkward timing and stunted delivery. His role often felt contrived (not his fault), making his performance feel even more uneven. I didn't care for Jason Drucker as Charlie's younger brother, Otis, either. I wanted to like the kid, but just didn't. Jorge Lendeborg Jr. was cast okay as the nerdy neighbor. I'm not sure how much this film could have been improved with better casting, but it certainly could have been better.

The MPAA gave Bumblebee a PG-13 rating. The film doesn't have much objectionable material. The rating is the product of science fiction violence, which includes human beings being vaporized. Or liquefied as the case may be. The majority of the violence is machine-on-machine violence, to bastardize a phrase. One other thing I noted that kind of stood out to me. Hodson seemed to like to make the boys take their shirts off. Were it done in just one scene, I might not have thought much about it. But three scenes is a trend. I am not sure what that is all about, but male teens with shirts off is not objectionable, it is reality. But it did make me wonder what point she was trying to make. It wasn't part of a natural flow of storytelling, at least on one occasion. In any event, I would not restrict this film by age. It was made for younger viewers. If kids are prone to nightmares, skip it. Otherwise, it should be fine.

I was disappointed by Bumblebee. The film had great potential, but failed to hit the mark. As a fan of the franchise, I have to say that I still eked out some enjoyment. Bumblebee is a great character to build a film around. The concept had a decent foundation, but the execution was poorly conceived. The casting could have been better and much of the film was contrived to fit. The film was also derivative. I found myself saying lines or predicting what the characters would do next. It was that predictable at times. It was enough of a mess that there are going to be critics who completely pan this film. The 7.3 rating currently enjoyed at IMDb is likely to slip into the 6 range. Because of fan-driven ratings, I doubt it will drop lower, but it could. Seriously. I am a fan and will rate it accordingly. I liked seeing a Bumblebee centered film. I am just begging the franchise to find a new writer if they do a Bumblebee 2. Please, please, please! This film should have been so much better. 7/10. (a generous rating from a fan).

  6. Insomniac Trailer Reactions: Bumblebee@rvgenaille2834d

I saw the Bumblebee Trailer tonight. After the constant disappointment of the Michael Bay Transformers movies, I was sceptical, but

    WOW

This looks good! Shockwave?!? Soundwave?!? Looking liking the Shockwave and Soundwave I grew up with. The action looks like you can see what’s going on.

What put me over the edge though was that I learned this is directed by the guy who made ParaNorman and Kubo and the Two Strings.

I’m back on board, with one exception: why can’t Bumblebee talk?

Regardless, darn it, I’m back on board.
