Somos una familia de cinéfilos, amamos el cine y nunca dejamos de ver la entrega de los tan codiciados Oscars, por lo general antes de la premiación ya hemos visto la mayoría de las películas nominadas. Pero por alguna razón Flow no llamaba mi atención y no la había visto aún, sin embargo, para mi sorpresa resultó ser la ganadora del Oscar a mejor película animada imponiéndose sobre Robot Salvaje, una película que me pareció maravillosa y pensé que ganaría.

We are a family of movie buffs, we love cinema, and we never miss the Oscars. Usually, before the awards ceremony, we've already seen most of the nominated films. But for some reason, Flow didn't catch my attention, and I hadn't seen it yet.    La película me encantó y te la recomiendo ampliamente, también te deja un mensaje muy poderoso y hermoso sobre la convivencia, la importancia de la tolerancia a pesar de las diferencias y aunque la película no tiene diálogo la comunicación es muy clara a través de gestos, miradas y acciones de los personajes.

   A medida que avanza la película un tímido y miedoso Flow va adquiriendo confianza, cada uno de los animales se va transformando debido a la amistad que surge entre ellos y su necesidad de sobrevivir. La animación y la banda sonora de la película es fabulosa, el agua se siente muy real y tiene mucho movimiento, su nivel visual es fabuloso.    Flow no es para nada aburrida y muchas veces me comí las uñas del suspenso cuando nuestro protagonista se veía en peligro. Aunque también me hizo llorar en algunas escenas, sobre todo la escena de la ballena, no quiero entrar en detalles para no hacer spoiler.    fuente de imagen Y por fin pude ver la película que ganó el Oscar a mejor película animada este 2025, y solo puedo decir que me pareció curiosa, por momento Es cierto que la característica que los animales como tal no hablen sino solamente emitan sonidos, es algo bastante refrescante pero a su vez hace que por momentos la historia pueda ser bastante lenta, tiene situaciones muy oníricas muy significativas pero que por momentos son geniales y por momentos son confusas simplemente, creo que es ese tipo de película que le debes dar la oportunidad de verla una vez pero no la vuelvas a repetir una segunda.

   Lo único que puedo decir es que sí deben ver esta película porque es curiosa es diferente y puede llegar a ser refrescante muchos aspectos, Es verdad que puede tornarse bastante lenta especialmente para los que busquen una típica película animación familiar, pero es una película que le venda la oportunidad aunque sea de verla una ves, y en mi caso la verdad es que después de verla una primera vez no la vería una segunda, el puntaje de esta película creo que es un 8 de 10, está lejos de ser perfecta pero sí es bastante curiosa y hay que aplaudir el original que llega a ser, simplemente es una película para visualizarla en una ocasión y después soltarla.

   I'm not a counsellor but if I were and you're knocking on my door today looking for something... I'd tell you to stop self-sabotaging yourself. I'm writing this and I imagine myself knocking on my own door, wondering what important thing I should know before this weekend is over. That! I've got it. The answer comes after the day's almost complete blur; first down the soft, cool morning paths and then down the rough, sweltering platforms in the afternoon. But I'll unwind this whole skein of emotions a little so that you understand me. It's not just a question of writing beautifully, but that what I write has a meaning, although we all know that everyone is free to interpret as they please.

   A few days ago I planned to write a few lines about Flow, the animated film that has some people wondering about its meaning. There are quite a few explanatory videos about it, and people, from their different fields of knowledge, have been trying to explain what may be inexplicable. Everyone is going to see something different there. What a great merit!

   We all have two opposites always whispering in our ear, but it is simply up to us to choose who to listen to.

   With this Latvian film, directed by Gints Zilbalodis, it happened to me at a slow pace until I started to feel that I needed to give up... From the very beginning I wanted to understand everything, because the mind demands understanding, and 83 minutes were waiting for me in front of the screen. As they went on, my soul seemed to scream: live them!

   I've spent the whole morning self-sabotaging myself. Thinking I wouldn't be able to say anything about Flow. And here I am finally busy sharing with you some of what I experienced.

   I'm not here to say for the sake of saying, I always look to the act of writing as an outlet, a release exercise or a little chat to help me move forward in this process of acceptance and self-discovery. I need to be able to open myself to that other dimension but without forcing anything, I want it to happen in a perfect alignment between what I think, what I feel, what I say and what I do.

   I have been seeing how situations emerge in my daily life that I have begun to see as tests, whose purpose is to verify if I have really learned something since I decided to improve myself. These are situations that I have to observe because if I look at them over time, they are nothing more than repetitions with different scenarios and people. It seems like something orchestrated to make me react and that's specifically what the challenge is about. I'm expected not to keep reacting the same way. And of course the triggers are deep and painful wounds that I am supposed to have healed or be in the process of healing.

   There's a lot of that throughout Zilbalodis and Matiss Kaza's script, and the ending is the most mysterious, but I lived it according to my reality. That's why it's a marvel Flow in the sense that it has a lot of nested discourses or cyclical situations that the characters react to. I leave it to you to figure out how they do it. Although I don't rule out that before I end this post I'll share with you some of my considerations.

   Instead of telling you about each character and what they embody for me, I would tell you that when you go to see this multi-award winning film you should do so with a small notebook by your side and write down what each of them makes you feel.

   Today I asked myself, for example, why there are three characters that are unique: a cat, a capybara and a Leviathan. Maybe you have the same answer as me.

   While watching this animation, which is actually a Latvian-Belgian-French co-production, I laughed at the things the animals did, a beautiful and innocent way of seeing myself, represented in them, I also suffered other moments... As for the cast... let me laugh again, there are several dogs but I liked that a Labrador retriever is one of the main characters. There are several lemurs with weird attitudes, but only one will be on the boat, with its weird attitudes. There are several secretary birds but only one is going to challenge what she considers to be wrong and evil in her house, even if she is defeated and brought to her knees by her equal. What's more, I love it when she reacts to inertia and it seems as if she says to herself: “this is my own life, I don't have to live someone else's”, and becomes the next crew member on the boat.

   There are reindeer that run and shake the earth when something is about to happen and they also run in circles in one scene while the cat is dreaming. It seems to be a real behaviour of these animals. The film is full of images that I see as metaphors. That's why I tell you to live it, to feel it in the deepest part of your being, because every little thing will remind you of something in your life, and will show you the world in a very particular way.

   Of course there are those who see an ecological sense in the film.

   

   

   Water is going to be that element that will impose challenges, the house a safe zone, as later the boat will be, and then there are the attachments and those who save and those who care little about saving or being saved and there is someone who is wise enough to always be at peace, and there is the fear of the unknown and that constant desire to flee until you understand... oh, yes, you understand, the cyclical nature of things, that there is no death, but constant change and that flowing is what life is all about.

   The eyes of the Leviathan in the final scene look like orbs. What do you see in that gaze? And what do you see in the gaze of those who discover that water is a mirror and that within it all fears were faced?

   With these questions and waiting for more from you, I invite you to watch Flow if you haven't done so, and I hope it will be worth your time in front of the screen.

   Maybe I'm a little late talking about this film, which has already received all the praise in the world, but what can I say? I had to resist until I could see it in theaters and experience it fully, and I can definitely say it was completely worth it.

   

   Flow felt like that once-in-a-lifetime cathartic experience where some people understand that the meaning of life is simply that: flow. Without the need for dialogue or explanation beyond the visuals and behaviors that we could justify as mere "instinct," this film tells a story capable of moving every fiber of our being. Perhaps because, in a way, we've all been drifting through life in the same boat as the protagonists.

   

   Animated films where the protagonists are usually animals usually have a very specific target audience for children, where connecting through characters with cute and charismatic designs becomes very easy. Although this film also targets that audience, its plot was undoubtedly designed to go much further. Loaded with metaphors with varying degrees of understanding depending on the audience, we could undoubtedly call Flow a masterpiece of modern cinema, not just animation but cinema in general.

   

   With characters who evolve over the course of the story, each with their own storyline interwoven with the film's survival, bringing them together in a world that appears to be a kind of post-apocalyptic, but not the neon-hued one we're so used to, a world without humans where nature slowly takes over the spaces it once stole.

   

   I could try, most likely with a high level of folly or arrogance, to explain the metaphors or the "meaning" of the film, but that would be somewhat naive on my part. These kinds of films must be experienced, allowing each person to experience their own journey into the unknown and find their safe place there, going with the flow to find their own safe places, or simply taking the risk of living an experience beyond the cinema.

   For many time reasons, I hadn't yet seen the acclaimed animated film Flow until very recently. As you probably know, this film won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film, and it's truly well deserved. This independent film from Latvia has captivated many with its beautiful animation, but above all, with the message it leaves us with. In this post, I'll give you my opinion including some spoilers.

   

   

   Synopsis

   A small black kitten lives a life of total naturalness in the middle of a forest, in a world where only traces remain that it was once inhabited by humans, who knows how long ago. The cat is still living peacefully in an abandoned house when one day he stumbles upon a pack of dogs. Upon meeting them, the dogs almost immediately begin to chase him; it's their instinct, except for one Labrador, who is more friendly. However, the hunt doesn't last long, as a stampede unexpectedly surprises them all. Still confused, the cat and the rest of the animals are surprised again by a flood that threatens to sink everything. Therefore, everyone must try to survive.

   Animation is a medium, not a genre

   What do I mean by this phrase? Well, many people tend to expect animated stories to be simple, light, and easy to understand, since the focus of everything will be the visual aspect. In this film's case, the animation is definitely a highlight, as it is incredibly well done. The textures, lighting, character and landscape design, the fluidity of the movements and colors—everything is beautiful. Also, considering it's a low-budget independent film, they really excelled.

   But animation shouldn't be considered a genre, since it can tell stories as diverse as any other audiovisual medium. There are plenty of examples of this, but in this particular case, Flow demonstrates that the story isn't simple just because it appears to be; on the contrary, it's loaded with symbolism and profound messages worthy of the big screen. These aren't just drawings; the entire scene is there to tell us something transcendental, something that goes beyond what we see, far from being childish or simple.

   There are other elements that contribute to this, as the soundtrack is perfectly in tune with what we see, conveying the serenity of the environment surrounding the animals, the tension of important moments, and even their magic. On the other hand, the absence of dialogue demonstrates that sometimes actions speak louder than words. Everything that can be interpreted from the story is based on the events, reflecting the fact that it's not necessary to create elaborated, bombastic dialogue to convey the depth of the message. Simple actions clearly convey what's truly important.

   Another aspect I love is that the animals are still animals. They aren't humanized to make the point even more evident. On the contrary, the cat acts just like a cat would. It's curious, suspicious, playful, and agile, just like any other cat, but it experiences unusual situations. And that's precisely the detail that, for me, makes stories great. The protagonists are common, ordinary, and what's extraordinary are the circumstances they face. This is what makes us sympathize more with the characters and leaves us even more impressed by everything that happens.

   As for the story's meaning, there are multiple interpretations. Some agree on certain aspects, although the director Gints Zilbalodis hasn't really clarified much. He left everything open to interpretation. For me, it's a spiritual journey, where in adverse circumstances the characters are forced to face their fears, leave their comfort zones, leave behind pride, prejudice, and mistrust, daring to trust those they would otherwise have kept at a distance. It's about overcoming the barriers we've imposed between ourselves due to our differences, accepting that everyone has their own particularities, but that they can still be worthy of trust and/or a second chance.

   We currently live in an increasingly individualized world, where everyone looks out for their own well-being without realizing that we can contribute what is necessary for the well-being of all, while keeping in mind tolerance and respect. Of course, it all sounds very nice and ideal, but ultimately, we've all done things wrong at some point. The most obvious redemption is that of the cat, who distrusted everything and only sought his own peace of mind. But, forced to coexist with others, he gradually begins to understand and accept the differences between them. Over time, he realizes that not everyone has bad intentions and that instead of remaining distant, reaching out for the warmth of love is better.

   To improve, we need greater empathy, more understanding, more communication, more benevolence. It's important to note that this doesn't mean naivety or passivity. As reflected in the character of the bird, we must discern between truly well-intentioned people and those who don't. Evil exists.

   There are also much deeper interpretations based on religious or dogmatic symbolism, such as the clear reference to the Bible's flood, Noah's ark, among others. Probably something greater than the creatures we see in the film—God, or however you want to call it—punished his children for their sins again, seeing how they had broken the world he had given them. Hence the flood that ended the world. But later, in his benevolence, he sends his representative, a symbol of hope who, through his selfless sacrifice, manages to save those who are innocent or repentant of their actions.

   Those who do wrong will have a chance at redemption; those who do right will be rewarded. That higher entity, in its infinite mercy, gives them a new opportunity. And that is the course (or flow) of life. There will be times when certain things come to an end, so that a new era may begin.

   As for interpretations, this film truly provides many.

   Personally, I'm left with a mix of both perspectives. But what's undeniable is that it's a film that is quite an experience. It evokes many emotions, keeps you completely distracted throughout every scene, captivates you visually, and, if that weren't enough, leaves you with something to think about. It's truly one of the best films I've ever seen, worthy of acclaim and one that everyone should see at least once. You'll be moved at every moment by this absolute work of art.

   Of course, if you're thalassophobic like me, there will be scenes that will be a little difficult to watch. I can only say that the sea creature scared me so much that I couldn't even look at the screen at those moments 😅. The cat playing with the little fish was cute tho, haha.

   Por muchas razones de tiempo aún no había visto la aclamada película de animación Flow. Como probablemente ya sabrán este film fue galardonado con un Oscar por mejor película de animación y la verdad lo tiene muy merecido. Esta película independiente de Letonia ha cautivado a muchos por su preciosa animación pero sobretodo por el mensaje que nos deja. En este post les comentaré mi opinión incluyendo algunos spoilers.

   

   

   Sinopsis

   Un pequeño gatito negro hace su vida con total naturalidad en medio de un bosque, en un mundo donde quedan solo los indicios de que alguna vez estuvo habitado por seres humanos, quién sabe hace cuánto tiempo. El gato aún ocupa una casa abandonada viviendo tranquilo cuando un día se topa con una manada de perros. Al encontrarse casi inmediatamente los perros comienzan a perseguirlo, es su instinto, menos un labrador que es más amigable. Sin embargo, la cacería no se extendió mucho pues inesperadamente ocurre una estampida que los sorprende a todos. Aún confundido el gato y resto de animales son sorprendidos nuevamente por un diluvio que amenaza con hundirlo todo. Por ello, todos deberán intentar sobrevivir.

   La animación es un medio, no un género

   ¿A qué me refiero con esta frase? Pues muchas personas tienden a esperar que las historias de animaciones sean sencillas de desarrollar, ligeras y fáciles de entender puesto que el centro de todo será la parte visual. En el caso de esta película definitivamente la animación es un punto a destacar, puesto que está increíblemente bien hecha. Las texturas, iluminación diseño de los personajes y paisajes, la fluidez de los movimientos y los colores, todo es muy hermoso. Aparte teniendo en cuenta que es una película independiente de bajo presupuesto, realmente se lucieron.

   Pero la animación no debería considerarse un género puesto que se pueden contar historias tan diversas como con cualquier oro medio audiovisual. De esto hay un montón de ejemplos, pero en éste caso particular Flow demuestra que no por su apariencia la historia es simple, al contrario, está cargada de simbolismos y mensajes profundos dignos de la gran pantalla. No son solo dibujos, pues toda la puesta en escena está para contarnos algo trascendental, que va más allá de lo que vemos, distando de ser infantil o sencillo.

   Hay otros elementos que contribuyen a esto, puesto que la banda sonora está en perfecta sintonía con lo que vemos, trasmitiendo la serenidad de el ambiente que rodea a los animales, la tensión de los momentos importantes e incluso su magia. Por otro lado, la ausencia de diálogos demuestra que a veces las acciones valen más que mil palabras. Todo lo que se puede interpretar de la historia se basa en los acontecimientos, esto refleja que no es necesario crear un diálogo elaborado rimbombante para trasmitir la profundidad del mensaje. Con actos simples se enseña claramente lo verdaderamente importante.

   Otro aspecto que me encanta es que los animales no dejan de ser animales. No son humanizados con la intención de que sea aún más evidente lo que se desea contar. Por el contrario, el gato actua tal como lo haría un gato. Es curioso, desconfiado, juguetón y ágil, un gato cualquiera pero que vivirá situaciones fuera de lo común. Y ese es justo un detalle que para mí hace grandes historias, los protagonistas con comunes, ordinarios, lo que es extraordinario son las circunstancias que enfrentan. Esto es lo que hace que simpaticemos más con los personajes y nos impresione mucho más todo lo que ocurre.

   En cuanto al significado de la historia, hay múltiples interpretaciones. Algunas coinciden en ciertos aspectos aunque en realidad su director Gints Zilbalodis no ha aclarado mayor cosa. Dejó todo a libre interpretación. Para mí es un viaje espiritual, donde en circunstancias adversas los personajes se ven obligados a enfrentar sus miedos, salir de su zona de confort, dejar atrás el orgullo, los prejuicios y la desconfianza, atreviéndose a confiar en aquellos que de otro modo habrían mantenido lejos. Es superar esas barreras que hemos impuesto entre nosotros dado por nuestras diferencias, aceptando que cada quien tiene sus particularidades, pero que aún así pueden ser dignos de confianza y/o de una segunda oportunidad.

   Actualmente vivimos en un mundo cada vez más individualizado, donde cada quien vela por su propio bienestar sin darnos cuenta que podemos aportar lo necesario para el bienestar de todos, teniendo presente la tolerancia y el respeto. Por supuesto todo suena muy lindo e ideal, pero finalmente todos alguna vez hemos hecho las cosas mal. La redención más evidente es la del gato, quien desconfiaba de todo y solo buscaba su propia tranqulidad, pero que en la obligación de convivir con el resto poco a poco comienza a comprender y aceptar las diferencias entre ellos, con el tiempo se da cuenta que no todos tienen malas intenciones y que en vez de mantenerse distante, acercarse al calor del cariño es mejor.

   Para mejorar, hace falta mayor empatía, más entendimiento, más comunicación, más benevolencia. Cabe destacar que esto no quiere decir ingenuidad ni pasividad, pues tal como se refleja en el personaje del ave, se debe discernir entre las personas verdaderamente bien intencionadas y aquellas que no porque sí, la maldad existe.

   También hay interpretaciones mucho más profundas por el simbolismo religioso o dogmático, como la clara referencia al diluvio de la Biblia, el arca de Noé, entre otros. Probablemente algo más grande que las criaturas que vemos en el film, Dios o como se quiera ver, castigó a sus hijos por sus pecados nuevamente, viendo como han roto el mundo que él les obsequió. De allí el diluvio que acabó con el mundo. Pero más adelante en su benevolencia envía a su representación, un símbolo de la esperanza que mediante su sacrificio desinteresado logra salvar a aquellos inocentes o arrepentidos de sus acciones.

   Aquellos que obran mal tendrán una oportunidad de redimirse; los que hicieron bien tendrán su recompensa. Esa entidad superior en su infinita misericordia les da una nueva oportunidad. Y ese es el curso (o flujo) de la vida. Habrá momentos donde determinadas cosas lleguen a su fin, para así comenzar un nuevo tiempo.

   Para interpretaciones, esta película verdaderamente proporciona muchas.

   Personalmente me quedo con una mezcla de ambos puntos de vista. Pero lo que no tiene discusión es que es una película que resulta en toda una experiencia. Evoca muchas emociones, te mantiene distraído completamente en todas sus escenas, te cautiva visualmente y por si fuera poco, te deja una reflexión. En verdad es una de las mejores películas que he visto, digna de ser aclamada y que debería ser vista al menos una vez por todo el mundo. Te emocionarás en cada momento con esta absoluta obra de arte.

   Eso sí, si eres talasofóbico como yo, habrá escenas que serán un poco difíciles de ver. Solo puedo decir que la criatura marina me asustó tanto que no podía mirar a la pantalla en esos momentos 😅. Ya el gato jugando con los pecesitos fue lindo jajaja.

   I finally got to see "Flow," the Latvian animated film, the big winner of the awards season. This film, directed and co-written by Jeans Silvalodis, has generated a lot of criticism, from deep appreciation to adverse remarks on all its technical aspects of animation. However, despite this, everyone agrees on its unique narrative proposal, presenting a post-apocalyptic survival story through the eyes of non-anthropomorphized animals without dialogue, based entirely on their instincts.

   Finalmente pude ver Flow la película de animación letona, la gran ganadora en la temporada de premios. Esta película que es dirigida y coescrita por Jeans Silvalodis, ha generado muchas críticas, desde profundo aprecio hasta señalamientos adversos en todos sus aspectos técnicos de animación, pero a pesar de esto, en lo que todo mundo coincide es en su propuesta narrativa única, al presentar una historia post apocalíptica de supervivencia a través de los ojos de animales no antropomorfizados sin diálogos basados completamente en sus instintos.

   

   I'm impressed that the film manages to convey several messages without a single dialogue, touching on themes such as collaboration, trust, new beginnings, and the force of nature, and most incredibly, all of this was done with a budget of 4 million dollars. With each scene, it was clear to me that the protagonists—a cat, a capybara, a dog, a lemur, and a secretary bird—act merely on instinct, which I find fascinating, that with just that, they generate emotional connection in the viewer through their reactions to the adversities they experience.

   Estoy impresionado que la película logra transmitir varios mensajes sin un solo diálogo, toca temas como la colaboración, confianza, nuevos comienzos y la fuerza de la naturaleza, y lo más increíble de todo es que todo se hizo con un presupuesto de 4 millones de dólares. Con cada escena me quedaba claro que los protagonistas, un gato, un capibara, un perro, un lémur y un pájaro secretario actúan meramente por instinto, lo que me resulta fascinante que solo con eso, generen en el espectador conexión emocional por sus reacciones ante las adversidades que experimentan.

   

   The entire film is based on how this group of animals survives a flood, in the best apocalyptic style. It seems that the earth has suffered many of these natural changes that ended human presence, forcing the rest of the living beings to flow with the natural changes, which is where I think the title comes from. The scenes change as the water advances, which drives the narrative, and that seems very brilliant to me, because the animals, with mere instinct, the most basic of a living being, make decisions to adapt to the circumstances.

   Toda la película se basa en cómo este grupo de animales sobreviven a una inundación, al mejor estilo apocalíptico. Parece que la tierra a sufrido muchos de estos cambios naturales que acabaron con la presencia humana, obligando al resto de los seres vivos a fluir con los cambios naturales, de ahí es donde creo que surge el titulo. Las escenas cambian a medida que el agua avanza, lo cual impulsa la narrativa y eso me parece muy brillante, porque los animales con mero instinto, lo más básico de un ser vivo, toman decisiones para adaptarse a las circunstancias.

   

   There are so many messages in the film that each viewer must say what they perceive and what they take away as a lesson. In my case, the theme of a new beginning resonated a lot with me; no matter how advanced in age we are, there is always time to do it, or circumstances simply force you. In "Flow," we see how nature reclaims its space and offers the possibility of starting again; what seemed like a tragedy is a cleansing for those who survive thanks to their willingness to adapt to change.

   Hay tantos mensajes en la película, que cada espectador es quien debe decir que percibe y que le llega como enseñanza. En mi caso el tema de un nuevo comienzo me hizo mucho eco, no importa cuán avanzado en edad estemos, siempre hay tiempo para hacerlo o simplemente las circunstancias te obligan. En Flow vemos como la naturaleza reclama su espacio y ofrece la posibilidad de iniciar de nuevo, lo que parecía una tragedia, es una limpieza para quienes sobreviven gracias a su disposición a adaptarse al cambio.

   

   Having said all this, I must confess that the main reason that moved me to see this film was its animation. I'm not a fan of cats, and when I learned that they weren't anthropomorphized animals, something I'm used to with modern animated films, it appealed to me even less. But everyone was talking about how good it is, so I wanted to see for myself why, especially if I was able to notice technical details in the animation due to the studies I'm currently doing.

   Dicho todo esto, debo confesar que la principal razón que me movió para ver esta película fue su animación, no soy fan de los gatos, y cuando supe que no eran animales antropomorfizados, algo a lo que estoy acostumbrado con las películas animadas modernas, menos me atrajo. Pero todos hablaban de lo buena que es, así que quise ver yo tambien el porque, en especial si era capaz de notar detalles técnicos en la animación debido a los estudios que estoy haciendo actualmente.

   

   The first thing I noticed is that all the animation looks like a painting, a combination of brushstrokes and hyperrealism. It seems that each frame is a painting, which is commendable, but personally, I think it's counterproductive because it compromises fluidity; it's as if they were images at less than 30 fps, and you want to see them at 60, which contrasts a lot because the film's title is "Flow." This animation style is not my favorite; I like more detailed things. For example, the animals lack fur, and there is little representation of wind, which should interact with the animals' physics.

   Lo primero que note es que toda la animación parece una pintura, una combinación de pinceladas e hiperrealismo. Parece que cada fotograma es un cuadro, lo cual es elogiable, pero que en lo personal pienso que es contraproducente porque compromete la fluidez, es como si fueran imágenes a menos de 30 fps, y quieres verlas a 60, lo que contrasta mucho porque el título de la película es Flow (flujo). Este estilo de animación no es mi favorito, me gustan las cosas mas detalladas, por ejemplo, los animales carecen de pelo, y hay poca representación del viento, lo cual debía interactuar con las físicas de los animales.

   

   I must clarify that I'm not an animation expert, but these are things you can notice that are visible when you pay attention to the details. Not to mention the water; it's present throughout the film. Several of the animals submerge in it, and you can't see a single bubble that indicates they are underwater. When the animals run through the grass, you don't see a single twig that bends with the interaction; all the dogs run the same way, and they are of different sizes and weights.

   Debo aclarar que no soy ningún experto en animación, pero son cosas que puedes notar que están a la vista cuando prestas atención a los detalles. Ni hablar del agua, está presente en toda la película, varios de los animales se sumergen en ella y no alcanzas a ver ni una sola burbuja que te indique que están bajo el agua. Cuando corren los animales por el pasto, no ves ni una sola ramita que se dobla con la interacción, todos los perros corren igual y son de distintos tamaños y pesos.

   

   Something I didn't notice, but other people who criticize the film did, is how on several occasions the animals' movement is compromised. You can see how the legs, when flexing, pass through parts of their body. But everything is understandable when you remember that the film was made with such a small budget and in 5 years. Don't misunderstand me; I think it's all a tremendous achievement, because it's a great example of what can be done with little money, prioritizing the narrative to tell a tremendous story that is visually attractive enough.

   Algo que yo no note, pero que otras personas que critican la película si, es como en varias ocasiones el movimiento de los animales está comprometido. Se nota como las patas al flexionar atraviesan partes de su cuerpo. Pero todo es entendible cuando recuerdas que la película se hizo con tan poco presupuesto y en 5 años. No me malinterpreten, me parece todo tremendo logro, porque es un gran ejemplo de lo que se puede hacer con poco dinero, priorizando la narrativa para contar una tremenda historia lo suficientemente atractiva visualmente.

   Este año han habido dos grandes films animados los cuales se pudiera pensar son los que están compitiendo para el premio mayor, el Oscar. The Wild Robot y Flow son las bonitas sorpresas en esta categoría, la primera no la veo aún pero el día de ayer tuve el placer de Flow. Esta película está hecha para disfrutar en plenitud la vida salvaje en su máxima expresión, para entender que los animales son muchos más inteligentes de lo que podemos pensar, para disfrutar de su proceso de adaptación ante las adversidades y sobre todo de cómo entre ellos puede llegar a existir una lealtad inmensa. En fin, si eres amante de los animales este film es para ti.

   This year there have been two great animated films which you would think are the ones competing for the top prize, the Oscar. The Wild Robot and Flow are the nice surprises in this category, the first one I haven't seen yet but yesterday I had the pleasure of Flow. This film is made to fully enjoy wildlife at its best, to understand that animals are much more intelligent than we can think, to enjoy their process of adaptation in the face of adversity and above all how among them there can be an immense loyalty. In short, if you are an animal lover, this film is for you.

   Esto es tan simple como se ve. Nos encontramos en una parte del mundo en donde no hay rastros de los humanos y el cual está cubierto totalmente de agua. Acá tenemos a un gato quien tenía su propia casa (aparentemente de sus dueños anteriores) pero que por las grandes inundaciones que ocurren le tocó perderla quedando a la deriva. Un gato en un mundo lleno de agua, la ironía. Resulta que que no está solo puesto que de manera milagrosa aparece una especie de velero con una capibara. Es en ese momento cuando empieza el viaje de nuestro amigo gatuno, un viaje en donde tendrá que dejar diferencias a un lado y más aún adaptarse a lo que tanto le teme: el agua.

   This is as simple as it gets. We are in a part of the world where there is no trace of humans and which is completely covered with water. Here we have a cat who had his own house (apparently from his previous owners) but due to the great floods he lost it and was left adrift. A cat in a world full of water, the irony. It turns out that he is not alone, since a kind of sailboat with a capybara miraculously appears. It is at that moment when the journey of our cat friend begins, a journey where he will have to leave differences aside and even more to adapt to what he fears so much: water.

   En dicho viaje no solo estarán ellos sino que por ahí se subirán un lemur, un ave y un perro (golden retriever) y entre todos tratarán de llevarse lo mejor posible a pesar de las grandes y notorias diferencias que hay en sus personalidades. Lo primero que tienen que saber es que no hay diálogo alguno, los animales se comunican a su manera y de la forma más salvaje y natural que tienen; esto es super curioso porque sobre la marcha vemos como en efecto pareciera que logran captar lo que quieren hacer y se quieren decir a veces con una mirada, un gesto o un sonido. Esto hace que la experiencia de ver la película sea mucho más inmersiva y más disfrutable porque si, dudo mucho que se aburran viendo esto.

   In this trip not only they will be there but also a lemur, a bird and a dog (golden retriever) and between all of them they will try to get along as well as possible despite the great and notorious differences in their personalities. The first thing you need to know is that there is no dialogue whatsoever, the animals communicate in their own way and in the wildest and most natural way they have; this is super curious because as we go along we see how they seem to be able to capture what they want to do and what they want to say to each other sometimes with a look, a gesture or a sound. This makes the experience of watching the film much more immersive and more enjoyable because yes, I highly doubt you'll be bored watching this.

   Creo que lo que más llama la atención es la nobleza de los animales, ya eso uno lo sabe, pero verlo acá de una forma tan gráfica es algo muy cool. Ellos no distinguen por especie, si realmente hay una conexión van a ser los mejores amigos. Acá ocurre algo entre el gato y el ave que de verdad es muy bonito, es una relación amistosa muy extraña pero nos muestra la capacidad de empatía de ellos al igual que al final de la película también pasa con una ballena que ayuda varias veces a nuestro felino. Al final ese es el mensaje, las experiencias sean buenas o malas siempre nos van a dejar una enseñanza que nos hará cambiar la forma en como vemos las cosas y el cómo tratamos al otro, si unos animales tan puros pueden, por que los humanos no?

   I think what is most striking is the nobility of the animals, you already know that, but to see it here in such a graphic way is very cool. They don't distinguish by species, if there really is a connection they will be the best of friends. Here something happens between the cat and the bird that is really very nice, it is a very strange friendly relationship but it shows us their capacity for empathy, just as at the end of the film it also happens with a whale that helps our feline several times. In the end that is the message, the experiences whether good or bad will always leave us a lesson that will make us change the way we see things and how we treat others, if such pure animals can, why humans can't?

   La animación es perfecta, llena de detalles y fluidez. Las expresiones en los animales es brutal, los gestos, los espacios naturales, se disfruta mucho. También tiene algo bueno y es que al no haber diálogos la musica y los sonidos envuelven todo para que no se note la carencia de un guión, si quieren comparar con algo conocido es como si estuvieran viendo un documental de National Geographic. La capacidad de transmitir cosas sin emitir ninguna palabra es el verdadero premio de esta película. Hiper recomendada, no se si se ganará el Oscar pero vale 200% verla. Dura menos de hora y media. Les dejo el tráiler por acá.

   The animation is perfect, full of details and fluidity. The expressions in the animals is brutal, the gestures, the natural spaces, it is very enjoyable. It also has something good and that is that since there is no dialogue, the music and sounds surround everything so you don't notice the lack of a script, if you want to compare with something known it's as if you were watching a National Geographic documentary. The ability to convey things without uttering any words is the real prize of this film. Hyper recommended, I don't know if it will win the Oscar but it's worth 200% to see it. It lasts less than an hour and a half. I leave the trailer here.

   Flow is an interesting and renowned animated film that first saw the light in theaters in 2024, until this year 2025 it was shown in my city so a few weeks ago I went to see it with my wife and daughter at the 21st century convention center.

   Flow es una interesante y renombrada película animada que vio la luz por primera vez en salas en 2024, hasta este año 2025 se exhibió en mi ciudad así que hace unas semanas fui a verla con mi esposa he hija al centro de convenciones siglo XXI.

   

   

   The movies for us is a luxury that we rarely give ourselves because nowadays, at least in Mexico, a soft drink is more expensive than the ticket to see the movie, so we only go to see movies that we know are worth it, so here is my humble opinion about Flow.

   El cine para nosotros es un lujo que pocas veces nos damos porque en la actualidad por lo menos en México te sale mas caro un refresco que la entrada a ver la película, así que solo vamos a ver películas que sabemos que valen la pena, así que a continuación les platico mi humilde opinión sobre Flow.

   

   Review

   The film tells the adventure of a cat who finds himself alone in a natural catastrophe in this case it seems a flood of immense magnitude, for this this black cat meets more animals on his way that join him in his adventure of survival.

   It is very curious but this is the second animated film I have seen in a short time where the characters do not speak, where there are no dialogues as in Robot Dreams, I really liked that because it gives the viewer endless interpretations and thus each person can have an interpretation of the story.

   La película nos cuenta la aventura de un gato que se encuentra solo en una catástrofe natural en este caso parece una inundación de magnitudes inmensas, para esto este gato negro se encuentra con mas animales en su camino que se le unen en su aventura de supervivencia.

   Es muy curioso pero esta es la segunda película animada que veo en poco tiempo donde los personajes no hablan, donde no hay diálogos como en Robot Dreams, eso me ha gustado mucho porque da al espectador un sin fin de interpretaciones y de ese modo cada persona puede tener una interpretación de la historia.

   The sceneries are very beautiful and are inspired in Latvia, a European country of great landscapes and they draw it incredibly in this movie that as a curious fact is made entirely with the open source and free tool Blender, a madness.

   En esta historia cada uno de los personajes que interactúan con el personaje principal, tienen personalidad propia, fuerte y marcada cada uno con las características de su especie.

   Los escenarios son muy bonitos son inspirados en Letonia país europeo de grandes paisajes y lo dibujan increíblemente en esta película que como dato curioso esta hecha totalmente con la herramienta de código abierto y gratuita Blender, una locura.

   Personally I found it an interesting and inspiring story that shows us that every problem has a solution, the only thing that doesn't is death, it's a bit crude the message that came to me, but as I said it could have endless interpretations.

   A mi en lo personal me pareció una interesante historia inspiradora y que nos da una muestra de que todo problema tiene solución, lo único que no lo tiene es la muerte, es algo crudo el mesaje que me llegó, pero como dije podría tener un sin fin de interpretaciones.

   I was refusing to watch this movie, given my personal "no animal movies" rule. Sorry, I'm very sensitive when it comes to animals, and I end up crying like a little girl with every movie that has them as the main character, even if it's animated. But I've read such good comments and review about this movie that I couldn't ignore it anymore. And the main character is a cat! How could I ignore my favorite animal 🥺

   Last week, I think it was Thursday, I got home from work very tired. And I decided it was the best time to watch this movie that already won a Golden Globe and is nominated for an Oscar. And yes, I cried, I screamed, I despaired, and I probably won't watch it again, but I don't regret having done it either, because it's an incredibly beautiful movie🩷

   Me estaba negando a ver esta película, dado a mi regla personal de "no ver películas de animalitos". Sorry, soy muy sensible cuando se trata de animales, y termino llorando como una niña con cada película que los tenga como protagonista, así sea animada. Pero he leído tan buenos comentarios y reseña sobre esta película que no pude ignorarla más. ¡Y el protagonista es un gato! ¿Cómo podría ignorar a mi animal favorito?🥺

   La semana pasada, creo que fue el jueves, llegué muy cansada a mi casa del trabajo. Y decidí que era el mejor momento para ver esta película que ya se ganó un Globo de Oro y está nominada al Oscar. Y sí, lloré, grité, me desesperé, y probablemente no la vuelva a ver, pero tampoco me arrepiento de haberlo hecho, porque es una película increíblemente hermosa🩷

   This film from Latvia, thanks to Gints Zilbalodis, offers us a unique visual proposal. An animated film about animals being animals, nothing to humanize them, just them in their purest nature. Therefore, it dispenses with dialogue, and relies on the expressiveness of the characters to tell the story. For me, it was irrelevant that they didn't “speak”, I think it was the detail I loved the most, it made everything feel real, and allowed us to focus on the actions of the animals, to remember why they are the best living beings that exist.

   The plot follows the survival of a cat in a flooded post-apocalyptic world (possibly the human race disappeared), where she must face challenges and learn to coexist with other animals. Somewhere I read that the director said she is a female cat, and we can see how she represents that fear of the unknown, and the importance of adapting to adversity in order to survive; a golden retriever, characterized by loyalty and courage, providing motivation and support to the group; a capybara (or chigüire, as we say in my lands), an incredible animal in our biodiversity, which provides serenity, flexibility and friendship; a secretary bird, which brings a vision of wisdom, strength and anticipation; and, also, a lemur, not to forget the importance of maintaining energy despite the difficulties, curiosity and an open attitude to change.

   Esta película proveniente de Letonia, gracias a Gints Zilbalodis, nos brinda una propuesta visual única. Una película animada sobre animales siendo animales, nada de humanizarlos, solo ellos en su más pura naturaleza. Por ende, prescinde de diálogos, y se apoya en la expresividad de los personajes para contar la historia. Para mí, fue irrelevante que no "hablaran", creo que fue el detalle que más amé, hizo que todo se sintiera real, y permitió centrarnos en las acciones de los animales, recordar por qué son los mejores seres vivos que existen.

   La trama sigue la supervivencia de un gato en un mundo postapocalíptico inundado (posiblemente la raza humana desapareció), donde deberá enfrentar desafíos y aprender a convivir con otros animales. En algún lado leí que el director dijo que es una gata hembra, y podemos observar cómo representa ese miedo por lo desconocido, y la importancia de adaptarnos a las adversidades para lograr sobrevivir; un golden retriever, caracterizado por la lealtad y valentía, aportando motivación y apoyo al grupo; un capibara (o chigüire, como decimos en mis tierras), un animal increíble en nuestra biodiversidad, que brinda serenidad, flexibilidad y amistad; un pájaro secretario, que aporta una visión de sabiduría, fortaleza y anticipación; y, también, un lémur, para no olvidar la importancia de mantener la energía a pesar de las dificultades, la curiosidad y una actitud abierta al cambio.

   Animation

   I felt that the animation was like a video game, I expected that at any moment the commands to move the character would appear. Made only in Blender, using the combination of 3D modeling, with the style of a moving painting, which helps to create an atmosphere of a desolate world.

   The director of this film did an impeccable job, since he managed to convey deep emotions without the need for dialogue, only through the expressions and body language of the animals. And I assure you that I connected with the film, to the point that I despaired and did not want to see what was happening, because it felt so real. That fluidity of movement, the interaction of the animals with each other and with the flooded environment, is carefully designed.

Esa fluidez del movimiento, la interacción de los animales entre sí y con el entorno inundado, está cuidadosamente diseñado.

E incluso, mi hermana me comentó que el desafío más grande fueron los sonidos del capibara, son animales hermosos y... silenciosos. Intentaron hacerles cosquillas, pero el sonido no encajaba con lo que deseaban transmitir en la película, así que fueron por un plan B: utilizar los sonidos de un camello bebé. Yo opino que lo lograron✨

   Message of the film

   In my reflection on the film, I came to the conclusion that it is a story about getting through the complications that life presents to us. Sometimes we will not be able to control every detail, and we must allow ourselves to flow like water. It is more than just a survival movie, it is a metaphor about adaptation, resilience and interconnectedness among living things. It's about cooperation in times of crisis, about how you can find help in people you least expect. It is about knowing how to choose our friends, who are with you in the most complicated moments, and do not let go of the rope to let you fall.

   It also reflects that fear of change, personal growth. A kitten, who was initially solitary and distrustful, learned to seek and accept the help of others, to work in a team, to belong to a community. This transformation teaches us the process of evolution that we all go through in different situations of our lives, how the moments of uncertainty, the most complicated ones, are the ones that allow us to move forward and open ourselves to new experiences.

   En mi reflexión sobre la película, llegué a la conclusión de que es una historia acerca de cómo atravesar las complicaciones que nos presenta la vida. En ocasiones no podremos controlar cada detalle, y debemos permitirnos fluir como el agua. Es más que solo una película de supervivencia, es una metáfora sobre la adaptación, la resiliencia y la interconexión entre seres vivos. Se trata sobre la cooperación en momentos de crisis, en cómo puedes encontrar ayuda en las personas que menos esperabas. Se trata de saber escoger a nuestros amigos, que estén contigo en los momentos más complicados, y no te suelten la cuerda para dejarte caer.

   También refleja ese miedo al cambio, el crecimiento personal. Un gatito, que inicialmente era solitario y desconfiado, aprendió a buscar y aceptar la ayuda de otros, trabajar en equipo, pertenecer a una comunidad. Esa transformación nos enseña el proceso de evolución que todo atravesamos en diferentes situaciones de nuestras vidas, en cómo los momentos de incertidumbre, los más complicados, son los que nos permiten avanzar y abrirnos a nuevas experiencias.

   Y creo que uno de los aspectos más significativos en la temática de la película, es esa relación que tenemos con nuestro medio ambiente. La película no lo específica, pero es un mundo postapocalíptico, donde no hay señal de vida humana, con inundaciones terribles, ¿a qué les suena eso? Yo lo asocié con los problemas de cambio climático que estamos experimentando. Somos los humanos los que tenemos una gran responsabilidad y deber con nuestro planeta, somos nosotros los que entendemos la fragilidad de los ecosistemas, y aun así contribuimos a su deterioro.

   El entorno de la película es un mundo transformado por desastres ambientales, donde no vamos a existir, y dejaremos sin recursos a los únicos sobrevivientes: los animales, que no tienen la culpa de las repercusiones de nuestras acciones dañinas. Ellos estuvieron aquí antes que nosotros, y seguirán estando después de la extinción de nuestra raza.

   Me dio mucha lástima que el nivel del agua comenzara a subir, y que nuestra protagonista perdiera su hogar. Estaba tranquila y cómoda allí. Fue desesperante ver cómo no encontraba un lugar a donde ir, no importaba qué tan alto subiera, el agua seguía creciendo. Si no tomamos medidas preventivas ahora, ese podría ser un futuro muy real.

   I admit that I finished watching Flow to write this review. If I'm honest, I don't know how I would have finished the movie on my own, not because I thought it was bad, on the contrary: IT'S TOO BEAUTIFUL, but I despaired too much about the situation of the animals🥺

   Cats are among my favorite animals, for that reason, the protagonist kitty's house, that one in the middle of nature with cat statues around, could easily be my home in the future. In fact, when I pass away, this is what my paradise would look like: peaceful, surrounded by nature and with lots of cats around🍃

   What I loved most, and I will never tire of saying it, were the characters. The Capybara, with his tenderness and calmness, helping the lemur join the crew. He saw him worried about his belongings and helped him get them into the boat, making sure he left his home before it flooded. Beyond that, he got them all food and shared it, a gesture of true cooperation. Just like the cat, who shared his catch with the dog, or the bird who did the same with the cat. All behaving like animals. I think the most surreal thing was them learning to drive the boat, the rest was such a faithful representation of their natures that it almost seemed real.

   Sometimes, the simplest things in life, are the best🩷

   Los gatos están dentro de mis animales favoritos, por esa razón, la casa del gatito protagonista, esa en medio de la naturaleza con estatuas de gatos alrededor, fácilmente podría ser mi hogar en el futuro. De hecho, cuando fallezca, así se vería mi paraíso: tranquilo, rodeado de naturales y con muchos gatos alrededor🍃

    Flow es un filme extraño, lo anterior se debe a que tiene apartados en los que se destaca enormemente como lo es su escenografía con multitud de elementos que desaprovecha de forma lamentable, una animación simplemente hermosa en lo que respecta a sus escenarios pero que se siente muy acartonada cuando se trata de sus personajes, y, una trama que no tiene ninguna clase de lógica debido a que se compone únicamente de sucesos que van aconteciendo sin ninguna clase de lógica o explicación que los conecte de alguna forma. Es por todo lo anterior que merece 3 estrellas de 7, no es un bodrio pero tampoco una maravilla, es una cinta término medio que tiene igual cantidad de errores como de aciertos, la recomiendo como una experiencia curiosa, nada del otro mundo pero por lo menos es interesante por momentos.

    Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film Globo de Oro a la mejor película animada

    Before this year's Golden Globes ceremony I had not heard anything about this film. Coincidentally - or maybe not so much - a week later I found this title on the billboard of a film festival here in Santiago and I saw it as an opportunity to see a film of which I only knew that the protagonist was a cat. So, with this minimal background, I set out to watch this film, motivated by the logical curiosity to answer why it won the award for Best Animated Feature Film at the Golden Globes.

    Antes de la ceremonia de los Globos de Oro de este año no había oído nada sobre esta película. Casualmente - o quizá no tanto - una semana después encontré este título en la cartelera de un festival de cine acá en Santiago y lo vi como una oportunidad para ver una película de la que sólo sabía que el protagonista era un gato. Entonces, con estos mínimos antecedentes me dispuse a ver esta cinta movido por la curiosidad lógica de responder por qué se llevó el premio a mejor película de animación en los Golden Globes.

    In summary Flow is a great adventure, but if we analyze it it has a variety of messages and themes that make it an interesting reflection. The story begins with a cat who wakes up in a world - this world, it seems - covered in water. We see some rivers and puddles, but we also see vegetation, buildings, boats, carved wood, birds, mammals... the only thing we don't see anywhere are human beings, what happened to us? Why aren't we in that world? How long has it been since we stopped existing on a planet that was our home? None of that is answered in the film, but it's important to understand that there are no people (yes, there were, and hence the buildings) which makes us presume some type of global catastrophe, perhaps a pandemic or some drastic climate change. In that sense, Flow is also an environmentalist and somewhat apocalyptic film. The truth is that this world without humans in which we find this cat will undergo another change a few minutes into the story. In the middle of a riot with some dogs, the cat encounters a stampede of antelopes fleeing something that soon reaches them all: a great flood. Let's think about a huge tsunami that hits a city and the speed with which - in the blink of an eye - the sea level can rise under those conditions. Cats have a reputation for not enjoying water much, so we can imagine how uncomfortable the situation is for our feline protagonist.

    En resumen Flow es una gran aventura, pero si nos ponemos a analizarla tiene una variedad de mensajes y temas que la convierten en una interesante reflexión. La historia comienza con un gato que se despierta en un mundo - este mundo, según parece - cubierto de agua. Vemos algunos ríos y charcos, pero también vemos vegetación, construcciones, barcas, maderas talladas, aves, mamíferos... lo único que no vemos por ninguna parte son seres humanos, ¿qué nos pasó? ¿por qué no estamos en ese mundo? ¿hace cuánto tiempo que dejamos de existir en un planeta que era nuestro hogar? Nada de eso se responde en la película, pero es importante entender que no hay personas (sí, las hubo, y de allí las construcciones) lo que nos hace presumir algún tipo de catástrofe global, tal vez una pandemia o algún drástico cambio climático. En ese sentido, Flow también es una película ambientalista y algo apocalíptica. Lo cierto es que ese mundo sin humanos en el que nos enontramos a este gato, sufrirá otro cambio a pocos minutos de iniciada la historia. En medio de una revuelta con unos perros, el gato se encuentra con una estampida de antílopes que huyen de algo que no tarda en alcanzarlos a todos: una gran inundación. Pensemos en un tsunami enorme que se descarga contra una ciudad y en la velocidad con la que - en un abrir y cerrar de ojos - puede subir el nivel del mar en esas condiciones. Los gatos tienen fama de no disfrutar mucho del agua, así que ya nos podemos imaginar lo incómoda que es la situación para nuestro protagonista felino.

Algunas veces el gato se sentirá como presa y otras veces como depredador, pero a su manera, todos los animales irán entendiendo la necesidad de colaborar, ¿podrá la necesidad sobreponerse al instinto?

In a situation of extreme need, in which we fight for survival, in a possible climate catastrophe on a global scale, would we be able to forget our differences and cooperate to save ourselves? Or would our individualism lead us to save ourselves by condemning our fellow human beings to disappearance?

    La mayoría de las películas animadas que usan animales como personajes son orientadas para las audiencias infantiles y por eso utilizan una serie de recursos que convierten esas historias en fábulas, siendo el más evidente el entregar la palabra a quienes no la poseen, al menos no en un modo entendible para nosotros. Hemos visto un montón de películas en las que los animales hablan (o los objetos, o los juguetes), incluso hemos visto un robot que ante la necesidad de comunicarse con los animales aprende su lenguaje (Wild Robot), pero si nos detenemos a pensar un momento, es más interesante no emplear este truco. Y eso hace Flow. En la película los animales no hablan. Los perros ladran, los gatos maúllan, las aves graznan... cada uno emplea su propio lenguaje, pero aún así se comunican y logran entenderse. Un gato, un perro, un capibara, un lemur, consiguen unir fuerzas para ayudarse mutuamente. Y no es que eso sea parte de la magia del film, en la vida real animales de diferentes especies logran comunicarse y entenderse, ¿cómo lo hacen? ¿no podríamos aprender de ellos? En una situación de extrema necesidad, en la que luchamos por la supervivencia, en una posible catástrofe climática de escala global, ¿seríamos capaces de olvidar nuestras diferencias y cooperar para salvarnos? ¿o nuestro individualismo nos llevaría a salvarnos a nosotros mismos condenando a nuestros semejantes a la desaparición?

    Seeing these animals sail through a flooded land, the first thing I thought was that it was some kind of flood without an ark. Let's think about the story of Noah, a biblical character who built a huge boat to save animals (and some humans) from extinction in the face of global rain and the consequent rise in sea levels around the world.     There are several things to highlight about the good reception of this film by the public and the circles of experts in the field who have praised and awarded it in different instances. The first thing is that it's an independent animated film, that is, it doesn't come from a large production company like Pixar or Ghibli; The second thing is that it's a co-production between three countries: Latvia, France and Belgium (what better background to tell a story precisely about cooperation?); The third thing is that the film directed by Gints Zilbalodis and co-written by him with Matīss Kaža was made entirely in Blender, a free and open source computer animation software; and finally, this film was selected by Latvia to represent its country in the Best International Film category at the Oscars and managed to enter among the five nominees. Personally, I was a little more moved by Wild Robot, but the odyssey of this cat - a species that doesn't get along with water - in the middle of a flooded planet seemed to me to be one of the best animated films I have ever seen.     Hay varias cosas que destacar sobre la buena recepción de esta película por parte del público y de los círculos de entendidos en la materia que la han elogiado y premiado en diferentes instancias. Lo primero es que se trata de una película de animación independiente, es decir, no proviene de una gran productora como Pixar o Ghibli; lo segundo es que se trata de una co producción entre tres países: Letonia, Francia y Belga (¿qué mejor fondo para contar una historia precisamente de cooperación?); lo tercero es que el film dirigido por Gints Zilbalodis y coescrito por él junto a Matīss Kaža fue hecho en su totalidad en Blender, un software libre y de código abierto de animación por computadora; y por último que esta película fue seleccionada por Letonia para representar a su país en la categoría de Mejor Película Internacional en los premios Oscars y consiguió entrar entre las cinco nominadas. No recuerdo haber visto antes una película animada en esta categoría, pero es una prueba más de su calidad. Flow es una aventura emocionante y aunque ténicamente es una historia muda siento que las palabras sobran cuando el mensaje es así de claro. En lo personal, me conmovió un poco más Wild Robot, pero la odisea de este gato - una especie que no se lleva bien con el agua - en medio de un planeta inundado me pareció de las mejores cintas de animación que he visto en mi vida, ¿alguno de ustedes ya la ha visto?     Flow es una preciosa película animada estrenada en 2024, ganadora del Globo de Oro 2025 y otros varios premios. La película es una producción letona-francesa-belga cuya historia se desarrolla en un mundo fantástico dominado por la naturaleza, donde no quedan vestigios de vida humana.

    La historia nos presenta a un gato negro como protagonista principal, que vive solitariamente en una casa abandonada situada en medio de un bosque. Cierto día ocurre una inundación que pone en peligro a toda la fauna local, que busca refugio.

    La trama transcurre alrededor de las peripecias que deben sortear el gato negro y sus inesperados nuevos compañeros en un mundo dominado por las aguas. La cinta no recurre a la humanización de los animales, por lo que no hay parlamentos entre los protagonistas, lo que hace que los sentimientos sean la forma de comunicarse entre ellos.

Beyond those there are a lot of animated films where animals are the protagonists and this time a film was released known as Flow, a world to save, where it is something totally different from what we are used to see, as there will be no dialogues and we will only immerse ourselves in an animated world and the images will be responsible for recreating the entire production, so much so that it won an award for best animated film.

    Uno de los seres vivos más importantes en el mundo son los animales, donde existen muchas especies de diferentes tamaños, unos más peligrosos que otros, pero a la final son seres vivo que se tiene que cuidar y proteger, además la relación que se crea con ellos en especiales animales domésticos es muy grande y uno da todo por ellos. Más allá de esos existen una gran cantidad de películas animadas donde los animales son los protagonistas y esta vez se estrenó una película conocida como Flow, un mundo que salvar, donde es algo totalmente distinto a los que estamos acostumbraos a ver, ya que no habrá diálogos y solo nos vamos a sumergir en un mundo animado y las imágenes serán las encargadas de recrear toda la producción, tanto fue así que se llevó un premio a la mejor película animada.

    Esta entrega es muy sencilla y se adapta a todas las edades, por el mismo hecho de abarcar temas de gran importancia y ese énfasis de la capacidad que pueden llegar a tener los animales cuando está en situaciones de peligro, tal cual como lo veremos en esta entrega, ya que ocurre un desastre y toda la ciudad se hunde, no habrá humanos y solo los animales tendrá que afrontar la situación y es algo que me llamo mucho la atención y es totalmente nuevo en este tipo de películas animadas, ya que al ser solo animales nos preguntamos ¿Podrán llevarse bien?, ¿Se van a comer entre ellos mismo?, y muchas otras cosas, pero lo divertido es que a pasear de ser animales, tendrán que buscar un nuevo espacio para vivir y nos sumergimos en una historia cargada de mucha emoción, felicidad, trabajo en equipo y lo más importante compañerismo entre los animales que van sobreviviendo a dicho desastre.

    Cada una de las escenas de esta gran película permite relacionarlo con los problemas ambientales y climáticos que sufre un país, donde los principales en ser afectado son los animales y aquí van destacando como tiene que ir salvando y poder llegar a ese lugar tranquilo, además al ser una película sin diálogos, lo que más predomina es la cantidad de canciones y efectos que permite que sea muy atractiva y seguir disfrutando.

    Notamos una gran cantidad de animales desde un pequeño gato hasta una gigante ballena que se uno a toda esta aventura de poder ir avanzando y sobreviviendo a los problemas, donde el más importante y sin el esta película no fuera la misma es la presencia de un gato negro, que le dan muchas significaciones y a la vez la responsabilidad de tener que liderar a ese grupo de animales que van tomando y es allí lo impresionante y ese mensaje de que no importa el tamaño para mandar, sino más bien las ganas de aportar valor, seguridad y que sea un ejemplo para los demás y este gato es la luz para todos.

    El pasado domingo, en la octagésima segunda edición de los Golden Globe Awards, se dio la primera sorpresa en lo que fue el comienzo de la temporada de premios al cine; en el renglón de Mejor Película Animada, "Flow" fue elegida como ganadora, siendo la primera película animada independiente en obtener dicho premio superando a producciones que tuvieron un costo muy superior a esta película que reunió a tres países para su desarrollo.

    
    

    Este film relata una historia de fantasía desde la perspectiva de un "Gato Negro" y el viaje que debe realizar junto a un "Chigüire" (Capibara para el resto del mundo), "Labrador Retriever", "Pájaro Secretario" y un "Lémur de cola anillada", cuando el bosque en dónde habitan se inunda por completo lo cual les hace buscar un posible nuevo lugar en donde puedan convivir como una inesperada manada o una disfuncional familia.

    "Flow" fue estrenada primeramente en el pasado mes de mayo en el Film Festival de Cannes para posterior ser estrenada en las salas de cine en Latvia y Francia, dos países junto a Bélgica en dónde se origina esta película que fue dirigida por Gints Zilbalodis quien junto a Matīss Kaža escribieron el guion de esta historia que explora los comportamientos de este grupo de animales para aprender rápidamente a convivir para así cumplir con la finalidad de encontrar un nuevo lugar en donde vivir; el hecho que ambos crearon una historia en dónde no existe ningún diálogo nos invita como espectador a interpretar cualquiera interacción entre estos diferentes animales que justamente desde su instinto de cada especie podrá ayudarlos a tomar ciertas decisiones que nos proveen de diferentes emociones y sucesos que van transcurriendo en un viaje que pasa de ser algo normal por la situación que experimentan, a ser un viaje de conexión, unión, entendimiento y por supuesto magia.

    
    

    La animación fue realizada usando el software de distribución gratuita como es "Blender", con el cual se puede crear animaciones en 3D la cual anteriormente era vista en videojuegos; en sí puedo decir que a pesar de justamente notarse como algo antiguo, también hay que decir que hay muchos momentos en dónde la animación es sorprendente, por ejemplo en el diseño de los pájaros secretarios y en los que más me gustó que fue el agua, la claridad, densidad y naturalidad de las escenas dentro del agua son hermosas así como las otras en dónde vemos a los animales realizar su viaje; otra característica es el uso de la luz en dónde es un elemento importante porque muchas de las escenas se dan en el día y por eso la luz del sol al reflejarse en el agua y proyectarse a otras estructuras es algo que me impresionó por la técnica o herramienta usada para la animación.

    The animation was made using the free software "Blender", with which you can create 3D animations which previously was seen in video games; I can say that although it is justly noticed as something old, I must also say that there are many moments where the animation is amazing, for example in the design of the secret birds and the ones I liked the most which was the water, the clarity, density and naturalness of the scenes in the water are beautiful as well as the others where we see the animals making their journey; Another characteristic is the use of light where it is an important element because many of the scenes take place in the daytime and that's why the sunlight reflecting on the water and projecting to other structures is something that impressed me because of the technique or tool used for the animation.
