It’s already February, and I really lament the fact that I haven’t seen as many anime series as I planned to. January just moved so fast, like there’s no time for me to breathe, and just like that, I’m a year older again. Yeah, you read it right—my birthday already passed, and a lot of things happened in between those days, so much like what happened to the main character in the anime I just finished this Friday. For the first time this year, it’s a shoujo, and perhaps that’s because February is approaching. Now that the first day has already started, I decided it’s the perfect time to share this anime about a girl who took a really risky step into the new world she yearned to be part of. But would she perfectly fit in it? Or would she again be the stone that would always be ignored and tossed aside?

    About the Anime

    IMG_20260201_223431.jpg

Honey Lemon Soda is a shoujo anime that was released last winter, 2025, and it aired from January 9 to March 27. This 12-episode-long school romance anime was animated by J.C. Staff was based on the shounen manga written and illustrated by Mayu Murata. This anime follows the life of our shy and timid FMC, Uka Ishimori, who after experiencing a hellish middle school, decided to move on to a school that is completely out of her character. Supposedly she’s bound for Shinsei High School; however, a fateful encounter with a lemon-colored-hair boy changes her prospects. So from Shinsei she went into Hachimitsu High School—the very same school that the lemon-colored-hair boy went into—hoping that would also be the school that she would belong to.

    IMG_20260201_223442.jpg

However, things didn’t go as smoothly as she expected because even in her first week, she immediately got accidentally soaked with lemon soda with Kai, the same lemon-colored-hair boy she met. After that, their once opposite worlds slowly became closer as Kai deliberately encouraged her to speak up. Of course that didn’t happen easily, given all the anxiety and worries pent up in her, yet little by little she learned how to come out of the shell that she caved in for a long time. But having him in her life didn’t magically change it because it’s still up to her if she’s brave enough to make decisions for herself and face the consequences that come with it.

    IMG_20260201_223611.jpg

Slowly and steadily, she braved her way towards forging friendships with people who appreciate her, yet as soon as she became more aware of herself and the people around her, she realized something. It all started like a subtle bubbly feeling, but as soon as he became more involved in her life, those feelings began to stir and threaten to fizz up violently. Can she express those feelings before they blow up, or will she let it calm and be contented with the friendship she has?

    IMG_20260201_223536.jpg

Watching this reminds me so much of Say I Love You, only that the FMC here isn’t feisty. The first few episodes became a struggle for me because I’m not really into this kind of FMC. I badly wanted her to immediately change for the better because I can’t tolerate watching her knees suddenly buckling. I wanted her to fight back, but no…that’s not her, so I became really patient with anticipating her character improvement. Although I’m not fond of the FMC, I like how she slowly improves herself through the challenges she encounters. True to her nickname, Stone—she’s indeed like one because even though her way towards that character improvement wasn’t easy, still she didn’t let those break her. I may initially find her improvement slow, but I guess that’s one of the charms of this anime because once she started moving forward towards that better version of herself, she didn’t regress later on even in the face of doubts and anxiety.

    IMG_20260201_224106.jpg

Further, I like how she didn’t solely depend on Kai and his friends on her journey to self-improvement. Yeah, he became the catalyst of her change, but that didn’t mean her changes were entirely dependent on him. I really agree with what Serina said to her, that with Kai she’s stronger and not just dependent on his help. She worked her way to become more open and truer to herself, and that’s something I didn’t expect this anime would portray well. I thought it would solely focus on the budding romance between Uka and Kai, so I didn’t expect that it would dwell more on Uka’s improvement. Anyway, it really highlighted how important it is to establish yourself before entering a relationship because usually the tendency is if you rush romance, there’s definitely one of them that ends up dependent, and that would subsequently become toxic later on. I already watched anime with concepts like that, and it turned out pretty stressful to me, so I’m glad this anime didn’t repeat that mistake.

    IMG_20260201_224026.jpg

Despite its charm, I can’t deny that its plot was far from unique—I mean, the-shy-girl-meets-the-popular-boy was pretty used up. Also, the side characters were kinda familiar, like the super friendly FMC’s girl best friend, the cool ex-girlfriend, the perceptive MC’s friend, the daft friend, and many others. Anyway, that isn’t that detrimental to the plot; however, I couldn’t help but notice that. Aside from the familiar plot and generic character, I can’t help but also notice how the progress of Uka and Kai's relationship was so public, like it seems that almost the whole school knows their status. I just find that odd because it seems that their relationship progress became the center of everyone’s business. Like even their teachers know that. It’s fine if it’s just their close friends and some perceptive classmate knows that, but in their case, it seems not only the whole school knows that. Perhaps I’m saying this because I do want to see other ships thrive and get focused too, not only the main ones.

    IMG_20260201_225251.jpg

So much for that; as for their visuals, they’re cute and beautiful. It’s definitely the shoujo style with their expressive eyes and ikemen boys. The first episode was particularly enthralling, especially the cherry blossoms, which served as a really nice background, and also the symbolism that it had aligns well with the beginning of FMC's high school journey. The animation wasn’t that impressive, but it’s not jarring on the eyes either, so it’s fine. The soundtrack was cool, yet for me I like the ending song more than the opening because the tune is more heartwarming, plus the visuals of the whole class joining in look so cute. Their ending song really did make me stay until the end, and it’s definitely a sweet way to end an episode with good vibes!

    IMG_20260201_225308.jpg

Overall, this anime is a 7.9/10 for me because there are moments that really felt dragging to watch...perhaps because I’m not much into romance. I’m not aware that it’s a slow-burn romance, so there are times that I get impatient, especially with how uncertain Kai is in the early episodes. Even I, a viewer, was confused on how he really felt for her because there were times that he seemed to want to get close to her, but the moment they got closer, he suddenly was out of reach again. That made me relate to Uka much more because he’s too unpredictable. Anyway, despite those, I somehow still enjoyed the majority of it, and if you’re into the usual shoujo with an FMC that gets satisfying character improvement, then you should try Honey Lemon Soda.

Before I end this up, I'll share with you its trailer, so—

  2. Mi Opinión de Honey Lemon Soda/My opinion of Honey Lemon Soda [ESP/ENG]@yasmarit330d

    ENGLISH

Hello dear friends of @TheAnimeRealm, greetings and blessings, I come this time to tell you about a cute anime, quiet and referring to overcoming in youth, this is Honey Lemon Soda, a story focused on a young girl named Uka Ishimori, who because of her shyness and attitude is subjected to bullying, verbal abuse and feel inferior to the rest of their peers.

    MV5BMTdlYWExM2YtNmMyMS00MzkxLWFlYjQtOTIyNTQwMDE5NTZiXkEyXkFqcGc@.V1.jpg Source

In life if you do not learn to defend yourself, you are considered weak and that's when the harassment begins, especially in schools, where you spend most of your time studying and spending with your classmates, Uka lived that way, making fun of her, living as if she was worthless, and at home she smiled, as if everything was fine so that her parents did not suffer, but one day she decided to go to a high school where she saw a young man named Kai Miura, who defended her and helped her in the street, from there she saw him as her savior and decided to go to the same school, without thinking that in the end he would become her protector.

Kai is a young man who does not get carried away by what people say, he says and does what he thinks, he is considered a physically attractive young man, but his personality is very reserved, although he seems to get along with everyone in the end he knows who he wants to be with and limits himself in his words, he is the opposite of Uka, so knowing her well he seeks to help her and teach her to be more active, not to be trampled by anyone and always speak what she wants.

It is a process of protector and protected, but in the end the coexistence will make that in both will arise a feeling something more than a simple friendship, although it will not be so simple, since as I said before Kai is popular, and there will be several ladies behind him, although he does not like it, Uka's personality will be gradually getting used to it and trying to approach and understand him, getting to know him and liking him more and more every day. It is a relationship that is experiencing to overcome and become stronger, to understand that no matter how sensitive and quiet you are you can not let others make fun of you.

Uka has to learn to walk a different path, where the support of her parents and friends will be essential to change her life, stop being the victim to be the one who fights and make known what she thinks, Kai is a support but also knows that she should not cling to him, just a boost to start a new stage in her life, is the kind of person you need to make you come to your senses and not that you come to depend, on the contrary to be the one who motivates you and can let you go at the time. It has its first season of 12 episodes.

Hello, anime fans. This time I'm going to tell you about one of the best teen romance anime I've seen to date. And it's a surprise for me to say this since it's been a long time since I've seen a RomCom anime so common and at the same time so emotional, interesting and well done. Even more surprising to me is the fact how little known it became during its broadcast earlier this year, despite having a fantastic story with valuable and unforgettable lessons. Based on a manga series written and illustrated by Mayu Murata, this animated adaptation was produced by TMS Entertainment studio with animation support from J.C.Staff. Meet one of the hidden gems of last season's romance genre that I highly recommend watching.

    Plot

The anime begins by introducing Uka Ishimori, a girl who is about to start high school and who is afraid due to the traumas left by the bullying she received during high school. Being a super shy girl, she has a hard time asking for help and usually doesn't do anything or react to anything that is said to her (thus giving her the nickname "stone" in high school for this very reason). However, while she is in the middle of the street one night trying to decide which high school to attend, a tall, blond-haired boy with a cap bumps into her and, helping her pick up the things she threw on the ground, shows her the uniform of the public high school he will be attending. She decides to enroll in this high school called Hachimitsu, where she meets again the blond boy from the other night, who is named Kai Miura and who will be her new classmate. From there, they will both go through a series of events where they will learn from each other and grow as individuals and as a couple, even.

    SPANISH VERSION

    Trama

I guess this is the first time I speak well of a romance anime after so long. And it's not because it's a typical mix of romantic comedy or romance with fantasy, but because it's simply a work of pure romance between high school teenagers, without much to add, really. I know, it sounds like it has nothing in particular that makes it different from most anime of this famous genre. However, what makes it truly special -even more than all the popular RomCom that exist today in the industry- is the way it tells us a story and develops its characters in a way that makes them hard to forget. And not only that, but this work is far away from typical teenage romantic clichés such as love triangles, misunderstandings or even unanswered statements and unnecessary secrets. In this series we will see how a couple of completely different young people get to know each other, learn and grow in different ways; all this while leaving us with valuable lessons related to trust, courage, friendship and love.

    IMG_20250515_223042.png

Starting with the story that this anime tells us, let's go back to what I told you above. We see how the plot revolves around Uka Ishimori, a girl who at first glance we realize how shy and reserved she is. We also see that she has serious self-confidence problems because she feels like a nuisance to others, this because of the constant bullying she received in high school. When she starts high school, not only do we see how Kai Miura's presence makes her on edge all the time, but as she tries to start over from scratch in a new school, she worries more about the impression she is going to make and decides not to stand out too much. However, both her past and her new classmates will test her several times as she tries to take her first steps towards change. Faced with this, we will see how Kai encourages her and tells her what she must do to face these problems and become more self-confident. Of course, he won't let anything happen to her, making the reputation he already had at school change and he now becomes Uka's "protector" ever since. But this is not the only thing that will change, as the distrustful protagonist will learn to defend herself and ask for help, as well as come clean and have real friends for the first time in her life.

As you probably already noticed, one of the main points why I say that this anime is above most is because of the issues it deals with, such as bullying and how the victims of bullying suffer consequences, as well as how they face new difficulties in their daily lives. And we will not only see it in the school area with classmates and teachers, but we will even see the parents' side and how their absence and negligence can negatively affect the children who suffer from bullying. All this we see reflected in the character of Uka Ishimori, who is not the typical girl protagonist who is popular at school, as happens in almost all romance anime. Instead, she is a direct victim of the bullying and how her new friends in this new high school (especially Kai Miura) will help her to face this new stage, as well as to have more confidence with herself and with those around her. This is why I said at the beginning that this series has very good lessons for those who have suffered from bullying or something similar and how Uka's example can help us to know how to face certain problems. Not only in the school area, but also in everyday life.

    IMG_20250515_223042.png

Another detail that I really like about this anime is the way they have to develop their characters, starting with the protagonist Uka Ishimori, who is someone with many problems of self-confidence, besides being a super shy and socially withdrawn person. With a character like this we can expect a great development, obviously, but the one we see in this series will leave us surprised and it will be much easier for us to feel familiar with her in certain moments of her life. In the case of Kai Miura is totally the opposite, being this a guy that at first glance meets to be the favorite character of any girl fan of these works; but then we will see him act as an advisor and friend in a way that all men literally we will have to take note of every sentence he says. When we see him starting to give her encouragement and helping Uka become more confident in herself and others, it's hard not to be impressed by the level of maturity and confidence Kai has throughout. Far from being the typical useless male character we see in any popular RomCom, Miura is certainly someone we can easily empathize with. As for the rest of the characters, let's just say they fulfill their respective roles, nomás.

Regarding the romance, you can't find a better love story than the one we see in this 12-episode anime. A romance free of fanservice, bad jokes and awkward moments. This is a romance that we see born and developed in a pure and full of emotions and feelings way, with a very remarkable and complete progress until its great closure (at least the one of this first season, which I hope is not the only one). This is one of those teenage love stories that are worth watching once and ten times until you get tired of it, especially considering the great amount of audiovisual garbage that exists within this genre in this industry nowadays. This work also has its touch of drama, especially when it introduces us to completely sensitive and difficult to understand characters such as Uka and Kai. While it has many romantic moments and other moments full of tears and strong emotions, it is also worth mentioning that little touch of humor that it has as a good additive, like honey in a lemon soda. Honestly, I admit that I know many romance anime that have generated me this same great impression and emotion as it happened to me in this case, but let's say it was more for being drama than anything else, truth be told.

Last but not least, let's talk about the technical and visual aspect of this anime. Considering that it was produced and animated by two studios recognized in the industry for their extensive filmographies, it is to be expected that we will see a higher level of audiovisual quality than any other common romantic comedy anime nowadays. While this is true at first, we also see that it has certain details in terms of character design, which is not bad but a bit different. The same happens with respect to the quality and fluidity of its animation, which varies a lot between the different episodes; being sometimes a bit static, then playing a lot with the transitions and in limited occasions it shows a very outstanding fluidity. Otherwise, both the bright color palette, the landscape designs, the good use of 3D and the visual effects are very well done. The same happens with the soundtrack, which can be said to be one of the most outstanding in this audiovisual section. Especially with the theme of those emotional and dramatic scenes that, with the help of the background music, elevate said feeling to a higher level than normal. All in all, this teen romance anime is perfect for every fan who would like to relive their school days.

Personally, I give it a 9.5/10 rating for the romance and drama genre.

An animated adaptation of the famous Shojo manga "Honey Lemon Soda" was recently released after years of its manga publication. The story revolves around the quiet Uka Ishimori, a quiet and shy girl who wants to change. When she was in high school, others made fun of her by calling her "Rock" for always being quiet and still, making many people dislike her for no apparent reason.

After finishing high school, she decides to change and have a fun life in high school, but right on her first day she is accidentally splashed in the face with lemon soda by Kai Miura, a serious boy with yellow hair similar to the soda. This event would change Uka's life, meeting new friends and getting closer to Miura's heart, thus developing a very pure and tender romance.

This work is very beautiful for people looking to see a romance anime, the characters are very varied, the voice actors are very good, with a very artistic opening and ending. I personally love the manga because it has a very beautiful and detailed drawing style, so the animators did a good job capturing the style of the manga as well. Uka and Miura have a lot of cute and romantic moments together, a story full of emotions and love.
