Hello everyone, friends of The Anime Realm, I hope you're all doing great today. This time, I want to share a new review with you... it was about time we talked about Ninja Kamui... remember when the trailers came out? And everyone was freaking out, going crazy? The director of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1, the hype was real, I mean, the bits they showed... pure ninja action, just like that, unfiltered! Fluid, wild, bloody... everything you could ask for, it looked like it would be the action anime of the year, really... the first episodes delivered! I was glued to the screen, the animation was crazy, the kind that left you with your mouth open, the fights were fast, boom!, shocking, visceral... you felt every blow, every cut... in the first episode wow, brilliant, it raised this wave of dark, raw revenge, and I said: 'This is where I'm from!', 100% bought!
I felt like they were delivering exactly what they promised.. do you remember that feeling? Of saying: 'Yes! This is it! Finally, some good quality ninja mayhem!' It was violent, stylish, it had that raw energy, I was telling everyone.. you have to see this! Now!' But then... oh friends, I don't even know how to say it without it sounding bad... things started to go downhill, not a little, eh... it was like going downhill. The quality of the animation... went to the floor, suddenly, everything felt... stiff. Weird, clumsy, then... CGI came along... oh my god, CGI, look, I have nothing against CGI, okay? I’ve seen it done well. Dorohedoro, Beastars, even newer stuff like in Chainsaw Man episodes uses it really well! But the CGI in Ninja Kamui, especially later on... it felt... weird, really stiff, I wondered why, it totally threw you off... one minute you have this gorgeous, super fluid hand-drawn animation, and the next, bam!, they put in these stiff models, almost like PS2 cinematics, moving around, it clashed a lot, and honestly, it was super disappointing…
Hola a todos, amigos de The Anime Realm, espero que estén super bien el día de hoy, en esta ocasión, les quiero compartir una nueva reseña.. ya era tiempo de hablar de Ninja Kamui.. se acuerdan cuando salieron los tráilers? ¿Y toooodo el mundo estaba como loco, vuelto loco? Que si el director de Jujutsu Kaisen Temporada 1, el hype era real, o sea, los pedacitos que mostraron... pura acción ninja, ¡así, sin filtro! Fluida, salvaje, sangrienta... todo lo que uno pide, pintaba para ser el anime de acción del año, la verdad... los primeros episodios, ¡cumplieron! yo estaba pegadísimo a la pantalla, la animación era una locura, de esas que te dejan con la boca abierta, las peleas eran rápidas, ¡pum!, impactantes, viscerales... sentías cada golpe, cada corte.. en el primer capítulo wow, geniales, planteó esta onda de venganza oscura, cruda, y yo dije: '¡De aquí soy!', ¡100% comprado!
Sentí que estaban dando justo lo que prometieron.. se acuerdan de esa sensación? De decir: '¡Sí! ¡Esto es! ¡Al fin, un buen desmadre ninja de calidad!' Era violento, con estilo, tenía esa energía así cruda, yo le decía a todo el mundo.. tienes que ver esto! ¡Ya!' Pero después... ay, amigos, no sé ni cómo decirlo sin que suene feo... la cosa se empezó a ir pa' abajo, no poquito, eh.. fue como irse de resbalón en bajada. La calidad de la animación... se fue al piso, de repente, todo se sentía... tieso. Raro, torpe, entonces... llegó el CGI.. ay, dios mío, el CGI, miren, yo no tengo nada contra el CGI, ¿ok? Lo he visto bien hecho. ¡Dorohedoro, Beastars, hasta cosas más nuevas como en capítulos de Chainsaw Man lo usan súper bien! Pero el CGI en Ninja Kamui, sobre todo más adelante... se sentía... raro, tiesísimo, me preguntó por qué, te sacaba totalmente de la onda.. un minuto tienes esta animación a mano preciosa, súper fluida, y al siguiente ¡zaz!, te meten estos modelos tiesos, casi como de cinemática de Play 2, moviéndose por ahí, chocaba un montón, y la verdad, fue súper decepcionante..
like they went way off the mark with what they'd promised us at the beginning, and it felt like the perfect excuse to overuse that CGI which, honestly, left a lot to be desired... I mean, come on! Series like Evangelion and Gurren Lagann proved a long time ago that you can have incredible, super dynamic mecha fights, even with traditional animation. Doing them in CGI isn't the problem; doing them with bad CGI is.
It just felt like the easy way out, the cheap shortcut, and that ruined the whole aesthetic it had... Now, maybe you're thinking: 'Well, but maybe the story or the characters saved him?' Phew... about that... let's talk about the protagonist, then. Higan, look, I wanted to like this character, I really did, the tragic story he has, the quest for revenge... it's the classic formula, right? But, honestly... I found him super... flat, no joke! I mean, really, not at all interesting... the guy is just... angry, and that's it... that's his entire personality.
He wants revenge. Okay, fine. But other than that? There’s not much depth to be honest, we see glimpses of his past love, of why he left the clan, but it all feels very superficial, very superficial… he doesn’t really have any internal conflict that grabs you, nor does he question the ninja path much in an interesting way (unlike some others out there), he just jumps headfirst into danger like it’s nothing, he gets his ass kicked ass as someone halfway strong shows up, and then, how convenient, he’s always being saved, it almost never feels like he makes things happen, you know? He’s more of a reacting to what’s thrown at him, and he’s always dependent on others or pure luck… he’s supposed to be the legendary ninja, I really didn’t connect with him at all, he felt like a super grey, tasteless character, and that’s a huge problem when he’s the guy who carries the entire series.
Y aquí es donde yo empecé a sentirme un poco... no sé, ¿engañado? ¿Ubican esa sensación de cuando te venden una cosa y resulta ser otra? ¡Así, tal cual! y es que, pensándolo bien, casi todas esas escenas de acción 2D que se veían ¡increíbles!, súper fluidas, esas que nos bombardearon en los tráilers y las promos.. eran todas de los primeritos episodios, ponele los primeros tres, quizás cuatro, máximo.. parecía que le metieron toda la plata, todo el esfuerzo, al puro principio para engancharnos, se gastaron todo lo 'bueno' que ya nos habían enseñado, y luego nomás... ¿se echaron a dormir? Casi se siente hecho a propósito, como si supieran que la calidad iba a bajar y solo esperaban que el puro hype del inicio y la historia hicieran que la gente siguiera viendo, pasó de sentirse como un proyecto hecho con pasión, con ganas, a sentirse como... pues, algo hecho nomás por cumplir, y saben qué fue lo peor? ¿Lo que como que marcó el bajón? Los benditos mechas, los trajes robóticos esos! ¡¿Es en serio?!
Uno se metió a esto para ver ninjas! ¡Jutsus, sigilo, quizás esas ondas místicas bien cool que insinuaron! ¡Eso es lo que el nombre 'Ninja Kamui' te vende, y en lugar de eso, ¡pum!, nos clavan estos trajes robot gigantes en CGI, que muchas veces se veían súper chafas, ahí nomás pisoteando por todos lados, le cambió todo el rollo al anime y, para mí, para mal.. de repente ya no importaban las habilidades ninja; importaba quién tenía la armadura más poderosa. Se sintió como que se desviaron cañón de lo que nos habían prometido al principio, y como que fue la excusa perfecta para abusar de ese CGI que, la neta, dejaba mucho que desear.. o sea, ¡por favor! Series como Evangelion o Gurren Lagann demostraron hace ufff, un montón de tiempo, que puedes tener peleas de mechas increíbles, súper dinámicas, hasta con animación tradicional, hacerlos en CGI no es el problema; el problema es hacerlos con un CGI malo.
Simplemente se sintió como el camino fácil, el atajo barato, y eso le dio en la torre a toda la estética que traía.. ahora, tal vez ustedes están pensando: 'Bueno, ¿pero quizás la historia o los personajes lo rescataron?' Ufff... sobre eso.. hablemos del prota, pues. Higan, miren, yo quería que me gustara este personaje, de verdad que sí, la historia trágica que tiene, la búsqueda de venganza... es la fórmula clásica, ¿no? Pero, sinceramente... lo sentí súper... ¡plano, sin chiste! O sea, de verdad, cero interesante.. el tipo simplemente... está enojado, y ya.. esa es toda su personalidad. Quiere venganza. Ok, va. ¿Pero aparte de eso? No hay mucha profundidad, la verdad, vemos cositas de su amor pasado, de por qué dejó el clan, pero todo se siente muy por encimita, muy superficial.. de verdad no tiene ningún conflicto interno que te atrape, ni cuestiona mucho el camino ninja de forma interesante (a diferencia de otros por ahí), nomás se avienta de cabeza al peligro como si nada, le ponen una paliza en cuanto aparece alguien medio fuerte, y luego, qué conveniente, siempre lo andan salvando, casi nunca se siente que él haga que las cosas pasen, ¿saben? Es más bien de reaccionar a lo que le avientan, y siempre depende de otros o de pura suerte.. se supone que es el ninja legendario, la verdad no conecté con él para nada, se sintió como un personaje súper gris, sin sabor, y eso es un mega problema cuando es el tipo que carga con toda la serie.

It gives you an excuse to kick your butt, but it's super generic, really... we've seen that story about the guy who seeks to avenge his family a billion times! English: It needed something more, you know, something to make it different, especially when the quality started to fail, without that brutal and constant action to sustain it, the basic plot felt even weaker... it wasn't good enough for me to say 'ah, it doesn't matter the crappy animation or that the protagonist is an egg without salt'... on top of that, everything felt super rushed, thirteen episodes to include the guy's past, who left the clan, the revenge now, the whole AUZA company conspiracy, the different ninja gangs, the mechas... it was just too much, since they wanted to include so much, a lot of it was left unfinished, you know, not well developed... villains appear that seem important and boom!, they get rid of them quickly without you really knowing who they were or why they mattered.
But anyway, anyway, was it all bad? No, not like that either. You have to admit it had its moments, some of the supporting characters were way more interesting than Higan, to be honest, Mike the detective was pretty cool, Emma had a compelling arc that was really important to the plot – her story did have weight, you know what I mean? And I have to give Zai credit. His whole thing, his relationship with Higan and Mari, that final fight… that was maybe the best part for me, even with all the complaints about the CGI, his arc did feel complete, with a well-defined beginning, middle, and end, which is more than I can say for other parts of the story. Master Yamaji, the top of the bad ninjas… At first, he had that mysterious, kind of sinister vibe, with his closed eye… it kept me hooked for a while, so yeah, there were some good bits there. The soundtrack, the music, it sometimes hit hard in the fights, though.
Y la historia en sí, ¿saben?, la onda esa de la venganza... pues, está... ok.. cumple su función, ¿no? te da una excusa para que se den en la madre, pero es súper genérica, la verdad.. esa historia del tipo que busca vengar a su familia la hemos visto ¡mil millones de veces! Necesitaba algo más, ¿saben?, algo que la hiciera diferente, sobre todo cuando la calidad empezó a fallar, sin esa acción brutal y constante para sostenerla, la trama tan básica se sintió todavía más floja.. no era lo suficientemente buena como para que yo dijera 'ah, no importa la animación chafa o que el prota sea un huevo sin sal'.. encima, todo se sintió súper apurado, trece episodios para meter el pasado del tipo, que dejó el clan, la venganza de ahora, tooooda la conspiración de la empresa AUZA, las distintas bandas de ninjas, los mechas... era demasiado, como quisieron meter tanto, pues mucho quedó a medias, ¿saben?, sin desarrollar bien.. aparecen villanos que parecen importantes y ¡pum!, se los cargan rapidito sin que sepas bien quiénes eran o por qué importaban.
Pero bueno, bueno, ¿todo fue malo? No, tampoco así.. hay que admitir que tuvo sus momentos, algunos personajes secundarios eran mucho más interesantes que Higan, la verdad, Mike, el detective, estaba bastante chévere, Emma tuvo un arco que sí convencía y fue súper importante para la trama – su historia sí tenía peso, ¿entienden? Y tengo que darle crédito a Zai.. todo su rollo, su relación con Higan y Mari, esa pelea final... eso fue quizás de lo mejorcito para mí, incluso con todo y las quejas del CGI, su arco sí se sintió completo, con un inicio, un desarrollo y un final bien definidos, que es más de lo que puedo decir de otras partes de la historia.. el Maestro Yamaji, el mero mero de los ninjas malos... Al principio tenía esa onda misteriosa, medio siniestra, con lo del ojo cerrado... me tuvo enganchado un rato, así que sí, hubo chispazos de cosas buenas por ahí.. el soundtrack, la música, a veces también pegaba duro en las peleas, eso sí.

Those first episodes were gems, some of the best I'd seen in a while, but then... pfff, the quality took a nosedive... they started to overuse CGI that looked kind of meh, out of nowhere they threw in some mechas that were completely out of place, they felt totally out of place... and add to that a protagonist who's flatter than a board, with zero charisma... and well, obviously it couldn't maintain that high level from the beginning... it went from being "you have to see it YES OR YES!" to... well, something I ended up watching more out of obligation, out of the morbid curiosity of seeing how far the disaster would go, so, my final grade? Mmm... I would give it maybe a 6.5/10, scraping...
I give it points because the beginning was very good, it had a couple of secondary characters that broke it and some brilliant moments here and there, but it lacks a lot of inconsistent animation, that CGI that ugh, disappointing, the mecha thing that was just anything, the protagonist was so so, and that ugly feeling that they promised you gold and they gave you... something else, it can be seen, I suppose, if you are only looking for popcorn action and manage to disconnect your brain so as not to notice the mistakes... and well, that would be all for today, take care! Pero la verdad... arrancó con tanta fuerza, ¿saben? Esos primeros episodios, joyitas, de lo mejor que había visto en tiempo, pero luego... pfff, se fue en picada la calidad.. empezaron a abusar de un CGI que se veía medio meh, de la nada metieron unos mechas que nada que ver, se sentían súper fuera de lugar.. y súmenle un protagonista más plano que una tabla, con cero carisma... y pues, obvio no pudo mantener ese nivelazo del inicio.. pasó de ser "¡tienes que verla SÍ O SÍ!" a... bueno, algo que terminé de ver más por compromiso, por el morbo de ver hasta dónde llegaba el desastre, así que, ¿mi nota final? Mmm... yo le daría quizá un 6.5/10, raspando..
Le doy puntos porque el inicio sí fue muy bueno, tuvo un par de personajes secundarios que la rompieron y algunos momentitos brillantes por ahí, pero le resta muchísimo la animación inconsistente, ese CGI que uf, decepcionante, lo de los mechas que fue cualquier cosa, el prota tan meh, y esa sensación fea de que te prometieron oro y te dieron... otra cosa, se deja ver, supongo, si solo buscas acción palomera y logras desconectar el cerebro para no fijarte en los errores.. y bueno, eso sería todo por hoy, cuidense mucho! After the first 5 episodes the anime slowed down a little, we were shown as Higan was tending to his wounds and was trying to make up a plan to topple the ninja's and the company that had sides with them, AUZA.
We were still shown a few bit of interesting fight scenes, for example when Higan first met the police detective (whose name I no longer remember despite just seeing him a few hours ago) and when he infiltrated into AUZA and got his arse kicked.
After these scenes, everything went downhill from here.
Regardless it was a huge disappointment and a hassle to watch and finish.
I only finished it because I didn't want another discontinued anime in my catalogue.

The story line of this anime is about a man named Joe Higan, who was formerly part of a ninja organization. After the fight for power in the organisation and the change of power, some of the ninjas left the organisation behind to live a good life, but the new head of the organisation considered them betrayers and outcasts who should be purged from the world.
Many ninja were sent out to attack their comrades and remove them from this world, and that has been the mission of the new ninja organisation. Some ninjas were good at hiding, while others were discovered pretty much faster.
Joe Higan, who was formerly a ninja in the organisation, left to seek a better life with his wife. He started a family after he changed his identity.
He had a son who he was ready to give the world for; they live their lives on the country side, working on a farm. He was very conscious of their movement and made sure they didn’t leave traces of himself and his family whenever they went out.
They were just a lovely family, but, as we know, nothing lasts in this world. Tragedy was lurking on the dark side of their home without them realising it. They have seen the news of how people are killed without any provocation, Joe and his wife knew the ninjas were on the move, which made them more conscious of how they move. They wanted to protect their son by all means, but there came a night that took away Joe's world.
After trying to fight dozens of ninjas that attacked his home at night, he was badly injured, and he was unable to save his wife and son. They were both killed, and he was helpless. He watched as they were stabbed and gave up the fight in him. He was stabbed and was confirmed dead before the ninjas left.
After his body was moved to the hospital, he miraculously woke up again at the morgue, and h he was moved into the emergency room for treatment. His family was no more, but along the way, he made new allies with people who had the same goals and were going to help him fight the ninja organisation and get revenge for the deaths of his family.
At the end, he reveals his real face to his allies, and the journey to getting his revenge has just started.
