It's been several months since I saw this funny movie, but I had forgotten to recommend it. A film with a trio of fantastic actors, two Spaniards and an Argentinean, who made me laugh with this satire of show business.

When I read the names of filmmakers Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat on the poster, I didn't hesitate for a second to see the film. Both filmmakers had already captivated me some time ago with the film El Ciudadano Ilustre, an excellent film that satirizes the world of publishing and fame.
True to their style, the directors develop this crazy story stabbing at the film industry, with a sly humor that many will enjoy, especially because they have three actors completely devoted to their characters, plus it is a world they know too well.
Official competition there are no great boasts of scenery, it is noted that they decided to economize on that aspect, taking advantage of the fact that it is partly a meta cinema story. I have no idea what the budget for this project would be, but I'm sure almost all of it has been spent on the salaries of the three movie stars.
I have doubts as to whether the film will be to everyone's taste. If you are looking for a comedy with easy gags, you should look for another movie. I loved it, it maintains a balance in its leisurely pace and sharp humor.
I have never worked professionally in the world of cinema in my country, my experience only includes experimental short films and those in which I helped other friends to make them. But I did dedicate myself for a while to give acting courses with a theater group I belonged to.
Something I feel I do very well is directing actors, because the plays I worked on gave me the experience to understand the actors and detect when they need to be guided or when they need to be given space to be creative and build their characters.
Another learning I took away from that beautiful time was the management of the actor's ego. The actor who says he doesn't care about the audience's opinion is lying. Recognition, a status earned through years of work, is very important for actors, whether they are working in a local theater group in an unknown city or the biggest star in world cinema.

The rivalry between actors is a reality, as shown in the film, which I think is an understatement. I witnessed many discussions between stage actors criticizing those who never worked on stage and went straight to television. There were many bohemians and intellectuals who launched harsh criticisms against television actors who never did theater, I don't know if they were envious of those who got characters in soap operas and good contracts with television companies, while they were in a theater group and had to dedicate themselves to work in other things, because unfortunately you can be very good with the Stanislavski method, but that doesn't feed you.
I was very young and I was only interested in learning, I did not participate in those diatribes because I was aware of my limitations as an actor, and I also wanted to learn to direct. Because of everything I lived and learned, I loved the film, because it made me remember those moments when I shared the dream of fame with a group of crazy people.
The art of acting and directing needs a dose of madness and the character of the director who appears in the film, reminded me of all those theater directors I knew who thought they were doing a masterpiece, her gaze always as in another dimension and that determination necessary to achieve the assembly of the play, despite all the obstacles that arise.

Cuando leí en el cartel los nombres de los cineastas Mariano Cohn y Gastón Duprat, no dudé ni un segundo en ver la película. Ambos cineastas ya me habían cautivado hace tiempo con la película El Ciudadano Ilustre, un excelente film que satiriza el mundo editorial y la fama.
Fieles a su estilo, los directores desarrollan esta disparatada historia apuñalando a la industria del cine, con un humor socarrón que muchos disfrutarán, sobre todo porque cuentan con tres actores completamente entregados a sus personajes, además de que es un mundo que conocen demasiado bien.
Competencia oficial no hay grandes alardes de escenografía, se nota que decidieron economizar en ese aspecto, aprovechando que es en parte una historia de meta cine. No tengo ni idea de cuál sería el presupuesto de este proyecto, pero seguro que casi todo se ha gastado en los sueldos de las tres estrellas de cine.
Tengo dudas sobre si la película será del gusto de todos. Si buscas una comedia con gags fáciles, deberías buscar otra película. A mí me encantó, mantiene un equilibrio en su ritmo pausado y su humor agudo.
Nunca he trabajado profesionalmente en el mundo del cine en mi país, mi experiencia sólo incluye cortometrajes experimentales y en los que ayudé a otros amigos a realizarlos. Pero sí me dediqué durante un tiempo a dar cursos de interpretación con un grupo de teatro al que pertenecía.
Algo que siento que hago muy bien es la dirección de actores, porque las obras en las que trabajé me dieron la experiencia para entender a los actores y detectar cuándo necesitan ser guiados o cuándo hay que darles espacio para ser creativos y construir sus personajes.
Otro aprendizaje que me llevé de esa hermosa época fue el manejo del ego del actor. El actor que dice que no le importa la opinión del público miente. El reconocimiento, un estatus ganado con años de trabajo, es muy importante para los actores, tanto para los que trabajan en un grupo de teatro local en una ciudad desconocida, como para la mayor estrella del cine mundial.
Hay actores cuyo ego puede crecer demasiado, haciéndoles flotar y dejar de pisar tierra firme. Ese es el error que se comete, sobre todo cuando se es muy joven. Recuerdo como un par de actores que empezaron en un grupo de teatro en mi ciudad, fueron contratados por un importante canal de televisión del país, aparecieron en telenovelas y cuando visitaban mi ciudad y asistían a fiestas, nos miraban con cierto desprecio, ya que no éramos actores que estuvieran a su nivel. La fama les nublaba la mente.
La rivalidad entre los actores es una realidad, tal y como se muestra en la película, la cual creo que se queda corta. Fui testigo de muchas discusiones entre actores de teatro que criticaban a los que nunca trabajaron en el escenario y pasaron directamente a la televisión. Había muchos bohemios e intelectuales que lanzaban duras críticas contra los actores de televisión que nunca hicieron teatro, no sé si por envidia de los que lograban personajes en telenovelas y buenos contratos con las televisoras, mientras ellos estaban en un grupo de teatro y tenían que dedicarse a trabajar en otras cosas, porque desgraciadamente se puede ser muy bueno con el método Stanislavski, pero eso no da de comer.
Yo era muy joven y sólo me interesaba aprender, no participé en esas diatribas porque era consciente de mis limitaciones como actor, además quería aprender a dirigir. Por todo lo que viví y aprendí es que me encantó la película, porque me hizo recordar aquellos momentos en los que, compartía con un grupo de locos, el sueño de la fama.
El arte de la actuación y la dirección necesita una dosis de locura y el personaje de la directora que aparece en la película, me recordó a todos aquellos directores de teatro que conocí que creían estar haciendo una obra maestra, su mirada siempre como en otra dimensión y esa determinación necesaria para lograr el montaje de la obra, a pesar de todos los obstáculos que se presentan.
Lidiar con los egos de los actores en una obra pequeña era a veces estresante, imagínate lo que debe ser en el rodaje de grandes producciones cinematográficas. Quien diga que es un trabajo fácil está totalmente equivocado.
What is the plot?
A Spanish millionaire who is going through an existential crisis, wants to leave a great legacy and feed his ego as a powerful man, his assistant gives him the idea of producing a film. They hire the filmmaker Lola Cuevas, who is the director in fashion for her latest works, a brilliant mind with a very particular vision of the film they are going to make. For this big production she needs two brilliant actors. Iván Torres is the prestigious theater actor, winner of important awards and who belongs to that elite of actors who view with disdain what is considered popular. The other actor is Felix Rivero, who triumphs in Hollywood, winner of Golden Globes and who has many fans, represents the mainstrean, commercial cinema. The confrontation between the two is inevitable, each believes he is the best at what he does, each is proud of what he has achieved, each actually feels some contempt for the other. But the fight is not only between them, the crazy things that the director r will do will also affect them in this competition to be the best. Who will win this fight? Un millonario español que está pasando por una crisis existencial, quiere dejar un gran legado y alimentar su ego de hombre poderoso, su asistente le da la idea de producir una película. Contratan a la cineasta Lola Cuevas, que es la directora que está de moda por sus últimos trabajos, una mente brillante con una visión muy particular de la película que van a realizar. Para esta gran producción necesita dos actores brillantes. Iván Torres es el prestigioso actor de teatro, ganador de importantes premios y que pertenece a esa élite de actores que ven con desdén lo que se considera popular. El otro actor es Felix Rivero, que triunfa en Hollywood, ganador de Globos de Oro y que tiene muchos fans, representa el mainstrean, el cine comercial. El enfrentamiento entre ambos es inevitable, cada uno se cree el mejor en lo que hace, cada uno está orgulloso de lo que ha conseguido, cada uno siente en realidad algo de desprecio por el otro. This character is played by the extraordinary Argentine actor Oscar Martinez, who already worked with the directors in The Illustrious Citizen.
Across the street is Felix Rivero, a super famous actor, who has made it big in Hollywood and won many important awards. Being a celebrity, his ego is sky high, he enjoys the life of celebrities, luxuries, women and is a bit of a rebel when it comes to keeping to schedules. He is the opposite of Ivan, whom he claims to admire, but in reality he sees him as an old and outdated actor who is not up to his star level. This character is played by someone who has made it in Hollywood in real life: Antonio Banderas.
Owning the show is Lola Cuevas, an eccentric but successful film director who will take her artistic vision to the extreme, bruising the ego of both actors regardless of the consequences, because she only has in mind to create her new masterpiece. Not only will she have to deal with the fights between the actors and their whims, she will also have to fight against herself and her insecurities. Lola is played by the fabulous Spanish actress Penelope Cruz.
These three acting heavyweights make up the main cast of the film and convey an excellent chemistry between them. They are well-known actors with a great track record, they know very well the world in which the story takes place and they surely enjoyed performing some hilarious scenes that are a scathing critique of the frivolity of that industry.
Official Competition is a film to enjoy with a glass of wine, to savor little by little. I loved it, it made me laugh at several moments and with an ending that no one expects. Three fantastic actors that will delight us in this self-parody of the industry they represent.

Por un lado, tenemos a Iván Torres. El hombre de teatro con un ego enorme, que se desenvuelve dentro de la élite intelectual y aunque aparenta ser modesto, en realidad se cree mejor que muchos otros actores. Por eso desde el principio se nota cierta incomodidad cuando se entera de quién será el otro protagonista de la película. Es como rebajarse, tener que compartir cartel con una estrella de cine adorada por las masas. Este personaje está interpretado por el extraordinario actor argentino Oscar Martínez, que ya trabajó con los directores en El ciudadano ilustre.
En la acera de enfrente está Felix Rivero, un actor súper famoso, que ha triunfado en Hollywood y ha ganado muchos premios importantes. Al ser una celebridad, su ego está por las nubes, disfruta de la vida de los famosos, de los lujos, de las mujeres y es un poco rebelde a la hora de cumplir con los horarios. Es todo lo contrario a Iván, a quien dice admirar, pero en realidad lo ve como un actor viejo y anticuado que no está a su nivel de estrella. Este personaje está interpretado por alguien que ha triunfado en Hollywood en la vida real: Antonio Banderas.
Como dueña de la función está Lola Cuevas, una excéntrica pero exitosa directora de cine que llevará su visión artística al extremo, golpeando el ego de ambos actores sin importar las consecuencias, porque sólo tiene en mente crear su nueva obra maestra. Estos tres pesos pesados de la interpretación conforman el reparto principal de la película y transmiten una excelente química entre ellos. Son actores conocidos y con una gran trayectoria, conocen muy bien el mundo en el que se desarrolla la historia y seguro que disfrutaron realizando algunas escenas hilarantes que son una crítica mordaz a la frivolidad de esa industria.
Competencia Oficial es una película para disfrutar con una copa de vino, para saborear poco a poco. A mí me encantó, me hizo reír en varios momentos y con un final que nadie se espera. Tres actores fantásticos que nos deleitarán en esta autoparodia de la industria que representan.
