   Hi friends, today I want to share with you my opinion about a movie I saw last weekend, which, contrary to the last horror movies I've seen, I did have a good impression, let's say that in terms of scares it could have been better, but in general terms it was pretty good, and above all I loved the messages that they wanted to convey with the story 😉.

   Hola amigos, hoy quiero compartir con ustedes mi opinión acerca de una película que vi el fin de semana, la cual, contrario a las últimas películas de terror que he visto, sí me generó una buena impresión, digamos que en materia de sustos pudo haber sido mejor, pero en términos generales estuvo bastante bien, y sobre todo amé los mensajes que nos quisieron transmitir con la historia 😉.

   Directed by Daniel Stamm, starring Jacqueline Byers, Colin Salmon, Christian Navarro, Lisa Palfrey, Nicholas Ralph, Virginia Madsen, and Ben Cross, "Prey for the Devil" is a film with a story that, despite being about exorcisms, a resource very often used recently in the horror genre, brings us a different proposal? Can a woman become an exorcist? Being this a profession exclusively for men of the clergy, this seems an impossible mission, however Sister Ann, with her vocation and determination shows us that it is possible, she is a young woman of 25 years who was transferred as a nurse to the hospital that belongs to the school of exorcism of the city, Her duty was limited to attending to patients, however, she wanted to train as an exorcist, as she felt a vocation for it and an extreme need, after having been a victim of the abuses of the demon that inhabited the body of her mother, who also ended up committing suicide to protect her.

   Dirigida por Daniel Stamm, protagonizada por Jacqueline Byers, Colin Salmon, Christian Navarro, Lisa Palfrey, Nicholas Ralph, Virginia Madsen, y Ben Cross "Prey for the Devil" es una película con una historia que, a pesar de tratarse de exorcismos, un recurso muy utilizado recientemente en el género terror, nos trae una propuesta diferente... ¿Puede una mujer llegar a convertirse en exorcista? Siendo esta una profesión exclusiva para los hombres del clero, esto parece una misión imposible, sin embargo la hermana Ann, con su vocación y determinación nos demuestra que sí es posible, ella es una joven de 25 años que fue trasladada como enfermera al hospital que pertenece a la escuela de exorcismo de la ciudad, su deber solo se limitaba a atender a los pacientes, sin embargo, ella deseaba formarse como exorcista, ya que sentía vocación para ello y una extrema necesidad, luego de haber sido víctima de los abusos del demonio que habitaba el cuerpo de su madre, quien además terminó suicidándose para protegerla.

   When her superiors noticed her determination and her gift, they allowed her to attend classes and even one of the exorcism sections of a girl with whom she had established a very special bond, and who turned out to be a determining factor in Sister Ann's life. The struggle with the demon was by no means easy, but the good thing was that Sister Ann was not alone, for her good friend Father Dante was there to support her and help her in her work.

   Cuando sus superiores notaron su determinación y su don, le permitieron asistir a las clases e incluso a una de las secciones de exorcismo de una niña con la cual ella había establecido un vínculo muy especial, y que resultó ser un factor determinante en la vida de la hermana Ann. La lucha con el demonio no fue para nada fácil, pero lo bueno de todo es que la hermana Ann no estaba sola, pues el padre Dante, su buen amigo, estuvo a su lado para apoyarla y ayudarla en su labor.

   My Opinion/Mi Opinión

   Honestly the film did not receive very good reviews, but in spite of all that I liked it, I thought the photography was excellent, in sync with all the scenes, the performances were quite credible, the effects were very well used, but in my opinion, the story was the best of all, not only because it shows us that evil exists and we must fight it (main message of all exorcism films) but because it shows us that a woman can also be a chosen one of God to save souls, We know that in our current society, in general terms women have gained a lot of ground, there are policewomen, pilots, in high positions in the army, businesswomen, scientists, in short, but when we talk about religion everything changes, the role of women has been limited to nurses or hospice rectors (and of course I don't want to undermine the importance of this work) but what about those who want to go further? And this happens in almost all the religions of the world, let's remember that regardless of whatever deity we believe in, religions are governed on earth by human beings with their own interests.

   Honestamente la película no recibió muy buenas críticas, pero a pesar de todo eso a mí sí me gustó, la fotografía me pareció excelente, en sincronía con todas las escenas, las actuaciones fueron bastante creíbles, los efectos estuvieron muy bien empleados, pero en mi opinión, la historia fue lo mejor de todo, no solo porque nos plantea que el mal existe y debemos combatirlo (mensaje principal de todas las películas de exorcismos) sino porque nos muestra que una mujer también puede ser una elegida de Dios para salvar almas, bien sabemos que en nuestra sociedad actual, en términos generales las mujeres han ganado bastante terreno, hay mujeres policías, pilotos, en altos cargos del ejército, empresarias, científicas, en fin, pero cuando hablamos de religión todo cambia, el rol de la mujer se ha limitado al de enfermeras o rectoras de hospicios (y desde luego que no quiero restarle importancia a esta labor) pero ¿Qué hay de las quieran ir más allá? y esto sucede en casi todas las religiones del mundo, recordemos que independientemente de cualquier deidad en la que creamos, las religiones son regidas en la tierra por seres humanos con sus propios intereses.

   As for the scary moments in the film, there were several that while not quite as shocking, at least not for someone like me who is used to consuming this type of content, they were good scenes. There is one in particular that really caught my attention, and it is one where Sister Ann is taking care of one of the patients in the hospital, but suddenly the attitude of this man who before was peaceful and even unperturbed, changed abruptly becoming erratic, but the worst moment was when he, or rather, "it" cornered Sister Ann against the wall and subsequently, showing an excessively long tongue (very typical of demonic possession scenes as it is described by real-life exorcists) the demon forces the nun to dance with him. It is an extremely bizarre and grotesque scene.

   En cuanto a los momentos aterradores de la película, hubo varios que si bien no llegaron a ser tan impactantes, al menos no para alguien que como yo está acostumbrado a consumir este tipo de contenido, sí fueron buenas escenas. Hay una en particular que llamó mucho mi atención, y es una donde la hermana Ann está cuidando de uno de los pacientes del hospital, pero de pronto la actitud de este hombre que antes era pacífico e incluso impertérrito, cambió abruptamente volviéndose errática, pero el peor momento fue cuando él, o mejor dicho, "eso" acorraló a la hermana Ann contra la pared y posteriormente, mostrando una lengua excesivamente larga (muy propio de escenas de posesiones demoniacas ya que es lo descrito por exorcistas en la vida real) el demonio obliga a la monja a danzar con él. Es una escena extremadamente bizarra y grotesca.

   I actually liked it quite a lot, especially for the plot twist at the end, a piece of information that we didn't expect at all, and that would serve to renew Sister Ann's desire to become a good exorcist, however, it certainly wouldn't be an easy task since as her mentor, Father Quinn, said at the end of the film: "Now that you know the devil, the devil knows you".

   En realidad me gustó bastante, sobre todo por el plot twist que da la historia casi al final, una información que no nos esperábamos para nada, y que serviría para renovar el deseo de la hermana Ann de volverse una buena exorcista, sin embargo, desde luego no sería una tarea sencilla ya que como bien dijo su mentor, el padre Quinn al final de la película: "Ahora que conoces al diablo, el diablo te conoce a ti"
