   One of the most interesting aspects of watching relatively "old" superhero movies arises when we dedicate ourselves to analyzing them trying to understand the historical context in which they were created, currently, with an MCU that has been established for almost a decade and a half and DC maintaining a strong pipeline of releases each year, it's easy to take for granted many specific elements that previously represented pure innovation.

   Sky High is one of those films that benefits from this activity, with a number of rather nice features that have not only aged well, but bring an undeniable aura of freshness to a market that is already saturated.

   Produced by Disney and directed by Mike Mitchell, Sky High is a live action superhero movie that was released in mid-2005... What was its premise? Introduce us to a world where men have superpowers and must attend a special school to be guided on the right path. An idea partially inspired by other franchises like X-Men that, on this occasion, is approached with a much more uninhibited style.

   Will Stronghold (Watch out for the terrible and hilarious puns) is the son of two of the most important superheroes in this universe, however, although the time has come for Will to start attending this special academy, it seems that even then entering his puberty process his powers have not yet begun to sprout.

   Being completely honest, the establishment of this premise is already strong enough to carry the weight of the entire film, resulting in a funny but surprisingly emotional study of the weight that our parents' expectations put on our maturation process. Will's journey is not so much about forcing his powers to appear, but about trying to understand his place in the world.

   As if that weren't enough, though, Sky High takes its time to create a solid universe filled with tons of detail, which might be illogical from time to time, but shows a gigantic amount of creativity.

   In Sky High, students are classified into heroes and sidekicks depending on the level of "utility" of their own superpowers, which means that there is obviously an arbitrary gap between the characters and often collides with the moral compasses of each of the characters. . This is not a detail that the film chooses to ignore, but instead is constantly used to make us as viewers question the entire school system and this fictional society, as well as the prejudices we hold against those characters who don't fit the bill. with the more traditional definitions of superheroes.

   Of course, apart from this there are a couple of conflicts sprinkled throughout the movies to sweeten the experience, the inclusion of a surprise villain and a couple of unexpected alliances improve an entertaining movie that in a few minutes has time to do everything.

   Sky High has a great casting where stars like Kurt Russell or Linda Carter (Excellent reference, by the way) Coexist with new blood like Danielle Panabaker, Michael Angarano or a young Mary Elizabeth Winstead. It is nostalgic and perfectly captures everything we expect from a teen movie born in the mid-2000s, with the addition that all the main characters have superheroes.

   There are no sequels, spinoffs or forced series that seek to capitalize on its humble success, it is a window into a much more untidy time but capable of keeping us hooked. His humor can be cringe worthy on several occasions and the dialogue leaves a bit to be desired, but he has a heart of gold and the ability to create a very interesting alternate reality.

   Uno de los aspectos más interesantes de ver películas de superhéroes relativamente "antiguas" surge cuando nos dedicamos a analizarlas tratando de comprender el contexto histórico en el que se crearon, actualmente, con un MCU que lleva prácticamente una década y media establecido y DC manteniendo un sólido flujo de lanzamientos cada año, es fácil dar por hecho muchos elementos específicos que anteriormente representaban innovación pura.

   Sky High es una de esas películas que se ve beneficiada por esta actividad, contando con una serie de características bastante agradables que no solo han envejecido bien, sino que traen un aura innegable de frescura a un sector del mercado que se encuentra saturado.

   Producida por Disney y dirigida por Mike Mitchell, Sky High es una película de superhéroes en live action que se estrenó a mediados del 2005... ¿Cuál era su premisa? Presentarnos un mundo en dónde los hombres cuentan con superpoderes y deben asistir a una escuela especial para ser guiados por el buen camino. Una idea parcialmente inspirada por otras franquicias cómo X-Men que, en esta ocasión, se aborda con un estilo mucho más deshinibido.

   Will Stronghold (Atentos a los pésimos e hilarantes juegos de palabras) es el hijo de dos de los superhéroes más importantes de este universo, no obstante, aunque ya ha llegado la hora de que Will empieze a acudir a esta academia especial, pareciera que incluso luego entrar en su proceso de pubertad sus poderes aún no empiezan a brotar.

   Siendo totalmente honesto, el establecimiento de esta premisa ya es lo suficientemente fuerte como para cargar con el peso de todo el film, resultando un estudio divertido pero sorprendentemente emocional sobre el peso que ponen las expectativas de nuestros padres en nuestro proceso de maduración. El viaje de Will no se enfoca tanto en forzar que sus poderes aparezcan, sino en tratar de comprender cuál es su lugar en el mundo.

   No obstante, por si esto fuera poco, Sky High se toma su tiempo para crear un universo sólido lleno de muchísimos detalles, que podrían carecer de lógica de vez en cuando, pero denota una cantidad gigantesca de creatividad.

   En Sky High los estudiantes son clasificados en héroes y sidekicks dependiendo del nivel de "utilidad" de sus propios superpoderes, lo cual quiere decir que evidentemente existe una brecha arbitraria entre los personajes y muchas veces colide con los compases Morales de cada uno de los personajes. Este no es un detalle que la película decide ignorar, sino que en cambio se usa constamente para hacer que como espectadores cuestionemos todo el sistema de la escuela y está sociedad ficticia, así como los prejuicios que tenemos en contra de aquellos personajes que no se enmarcan con las definiciones más tradicionales de superhéroes.

   Por supuesto, aparte de esto existen un par de conflictos regados a lo largo de la películas para endulzar la experiencia, la inclusión de un villano sorpresa y un par de alianzas inesperadas mejoran una película entretenida que en pocos minutos tiene tiempo para hacer de todo.

   Sky High cuenta con un casting estupendo en dónde estrellas como Kurt Russell o Linda Carter (Excelente referencia, por cierto) Coexisten con sangre nueva como Danielle Panabaker, Michael Angarano o una joven Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Es nostálgica y captura a la perfección todo lo que esperamos de una teen movie nacida a mediados de los 2000, con el añadido de que todos los personajes principales tienen superhéroes.

   No hay secuelas, spin offs o series forzadas que busquen capitalizar en su humilde éxito, es una ventana a una época mucho más desprolija pero capaz de mantenernos enganchados. Su humor puede pecar de cringe worthy en varias ocasiones y los diálogos dejan un poco que desear, pero tiene un corazón de oro y la capacidad de crear una realidad alternativa bastante interesante.

   Hola hive, hoy les quiero hablar sobre una película bastante curiosa que recuerdo haber visto mucho en su momento y desde siempre me llamo la atención, pero de vez en cuando es bueno revisitar estas películas para ver si efectivamente son tan buenas como las recordamos, por eso es que hoy les vengo a hablar sobre Sky High

   Sky High o Super Escuela de Heroes como se le conoce en Latinoamérica es una película lanzada en el 2005 por Walt Disney Pictures, dirigida por Mike Mitchell y protagonizada por Michael Angarano.

   La trama de esta película es bastante sencillo, nos sitúa en un mundo donde los súper héroes existen pero tienen que asistir a escuelas donde los educan y los enseñan a dominar sus poderes para así ser mejores para la sociedad, sin embargo crecer en un entorno rodeado de súper héroes no es tan sencillo como parece y nuestro protagonista va a tener que aprender a sobrellevar esta situación y los problemas que esto conlleva.

   De por si el concepto de esta película es bastante innovador y más que todo para ese momento, mostrarnos superhéroes en ese entorno y en esas situaciones no creo que hubiese sido muy común y la verdad fue una de las cosas que más me hizo enganchar con la película.

   Obviamente no hay que dejar de lado que al final es una película adolescente donde podemos encontrar muchos clichés, pero tampoco creo que esto sea algo malo, sin embargo es importante recalcarlo porque si hay varios de estos.

   En cuanto a la estética de la película se me hace difícil tomar una decisión, porque entiendo el año en que se lanzó esta película y que además no fue la gran apuesta de Disney ni una película con un presupuesto extraordinario entonces si me parece que uno que otro efecto especial queda medio flojo pero siendo justos no creo que le pudiésemos pedir mucho más a esta película.

   Creo que como toda película de Disney lo que mas resalte es su mensaje el cual me encanta, esa idea de que todos somos diferentes y eso no nos hace menos ni mas, que todos somos iguales, el valor de la amistad y la idea de que todos nos podemos superar y ser mejores, como dije no es un mensaje muy profundo ni nada por el estilo, pero es un mensaje que perfectamente podríamos aplicar en la actualidad, así que por este lado me parece que no solo es un buen mensaje sino que además saben cómo transmitirlo.

   Algo que pensé ahorita es que me hubiese gustado ver y saber más sobre los amigos del protagonista, porque son personajes bastante curiosos y de los que sabemos muy poco, entonces no se, no creo que sea algo que le falta a la película pero a mi en lo personal si me hubiese gustado saber un poco mas de ellos y mas sabiendo el peso que tienen al final de la película.

   Otra cosa que me voló la cabeza cuando era pequeño fue el plot twist del final, creo que nunca había visto una revelación así en una película y lo mejor de todo es que me di cuenta que en realidad es un giro bastante bien construido, se nos dan ciertas pistas sutiles para que cuando lleguemos al final quedemos impactados, de verdad me acuerdo que la primera vez que la vi me gustó mucho.

   Sky high es una película sencilla pero entretenida y que cumple perfectamente con los que nos ofrece, no es ambiciosa pero tampoco pretende serlo, prefiere mantenerse en el camino seguro pero lo hace de una manera inteligente, me sorprendió ver esta película actualmente y pensar “efectivamente es una película buena”, no es una obra de arte obviamente pero entretiene bastante.

   The plot of this movie is quite simple, it places us in a world where super heroes exist but they have to attend schools where they are educated and taught to master their powers in order to be better for society, however growing up in an environment surrounded by super heroes is not as simple as it seems and our protagonist will have to learn to cope with this situation and the problems that this entails.

   In itself the concept of this film is quite innovative and especially for that moment, showing us superheroes in that environment and in those situations I don't think it would have been very common and the truth was one of the things that made me get hooked on the film.

   Obviously we must not forget that in the end it is a teen movie where we can find many clichés, but I do not think this is a bad thing, however it is important to emphasize it because there are several of these.

   As for the aesthetics of the film I find it difficult to make a decision, because I understand the year in which this film was released and also that it was not the big bet of Disney nor a film with an extraordinary budget so I think that one or another special effect is a little weak but in all fairness I do not think we could ask much more from this film.

   I think that like all Disney movies what stands out the most is its message which I love, the idea that we are all different and that does not make us less or more, that we are all equal, the value of friendship and the idea that we can all overcome and be better, as I said it is not a very deep message or anything like that, but it is a message that we could perfectly apply today, so on this side I think it is not only a good message but also they know how to convey it.

   Something I thought right now is that I would have liked to see and know more about the main character's friends, because they are quite curious characters and we know very little about them, so I don't know, I don't think it's something that the film lacks but I personally would have liked to know a little more about them and more knowing the weight they have at the end of the film.

   Another thing that blew my mind when I was little was the plot twist at the end, I think I had never seen such a revelation in a movie and best of all is that I realized that it is actually a pretty well constructed twist, we are given certain subtle clues so that when we get to the end we are shocked, I really remember that the first time I saw it I liked it a lot.

   Sky high is a simple but entertaining movie that perfectly fulfills what it offers us, it is not ambitious but it doesn't pretend to be either, it prefers to stay on the safe path but it does it in a smart way, I was surprised to see this movie nowadays and think "it is indeed a good movie", it is not a work of art obviously but it entertains quite a lot.
