Yakusoku no Neverland 「約束のネバーランド」 The Promised Neverland (2019, 12 episodes)@onlyjob537d
Escape from maximum security orphanage.
Very little supernatural. Story is somewhat plausible, only improbable. Kids are far too smart and far too brave at the same time. Everything is possible with few genius strategists on the team.
Good suspense and continuous tension keeping viewer in constant fear and discomfort of narrow escape from high-risk situations. What high-risk situations can there be in the orphanage? You'll have to see the show to understand. (It is a psychological thriller/horror anime, without gore.)

Hello anime fans. Tonight we will talk about a japanese animated series that impacted many with its incredible story. A work that has become very popular at the time not only for its incredible animation style and soundtrack it has, but also for the popularity it had already achieved before in the manga world and how excellently adapted it became (at least its first season). Based on the manga series of the same name written by Kaiu Shirai and illustrated by Posuka Demisu, this animated adaptation was produced by the famous CloverWorks studio. A story that mixes science fiction with dark fantasy, horror and psychological suspense in a way that can blow your mind. I invite you to stay and see this great animated work that, if it weren't for the failure of its second season, would be the best work of horror and science fiction ever made in history. The anime is available on the Crunchyroll platform.

This anime introduces us to three kids, only 11 years old, who stand out from the more than 30 other children in an orphanage called Grace Field House. Their names are Emma, Norman and Ray. Emma is the one who stands out the most for her intelligence and her skills and abilities, in addition to her incredible personality and enthusiasm. They all live happily in this place, where they are cared for and fed well, in addition to studying and taking exams that are somewhat curious and advanced for a child. The tradition of this orphanage is that when the child turns 12 years old, he/she leaves the place. However, no one knows where they go since they cannot approach the entrance that connects to the outside. Nor can they go near the fence that divides the orphanage from the forest. In short, no one can leave this strange place, just as those who leave never return. But one night, at the farewell of one of the children who have been selected to leave, Emma approaches the entrance with Norman to give him a stuffed animal that she left behind and that the little girl always carries with her. To the surprise of both, they witness one of the most powerful and traumatizing scenes that can be shown in this series, something that will completely change what they know of the orphanage.

I remember when I first watched this anime with some old friends back in the days when we all shared anime with each other. They painted this series as something that would blow my mind because of the way it plays with the mind and makes you feel every episode and every scene as if you were watching it yourself. Anyway, when I watched it in full, I had no choice but to put it among my favorite anime, being just someone who has only watched like 10 anime at most back then. Now, after 4 years, I can confirm what I thought of this anime at the time: it is a masterpiece. And the perfect mix it has of science fiction (being a kind of futuristic and dystopian or post-apocalyptic world), dark fantasy, mystery, horror and the same psychological suspense makes it perfectly a work that anyone can see, especially if they are looking for something different from most popular anime. It is a story that left us with so many anxieties and a great desire to know more about it, which led many to watch the Manga and prefer not to see the second season that was released because it was the opposite of what we knew of the work. That banished the anime, leaving only this first season as the introduction of one of the most fantastic stories ever made in the history of manga and anime.

But well, let's talk only about the first season, which introduces us to a curious orphanage full of children dressed completely in white, as if it were a sect. They are all happy, but the curious thing is how each and every one of them has a tattoo in the form of a code on their necks. Also, everyone treats each other as brothers and sisters, considering that the members of the orphanage, including only the caretaker of the children that everyone calls "Mother", are a family. But... Happiness ends when one of the family members turns 12 and is taken away. Where? Nobody knows and that's the most mysterious thing of all. Not only that, but the way they care for and treat the children leaves a lot to be desired from the caretaker, who seems to be hiding something very dark. However, no one would have thought that the secret she has been hiding all this time would be discovered by two of the three most intelligent and skilled children in the orphanage. These being Emma and Norman who discover the secret behind it all, what they would have never even imagined is that all of this is... well... Better watch the anime (I won't give Spoilers). I'll just say that it's one of the most shocking plot twists you can see at the beginning of a show, something that will completely hook you until you watch it all the way through.
Very few anime I've seen that have kept me with such a high level of suspense in every chapter as this one did. The way they introduce the main characters, the relationships they have, the horrible secret they discover, and everything that ensues after that is just the first episode. Then comes a series of events that will call into question the survival of each and every member of that orphanage. Character development is something that stands out incredibly well in this story, focusing mainly on Emma, Norman and Ray, three kids who are about to turn 12 and discover that their destiny is something much darker and horrifying than they can imagine. Now, what will three kids do in the face of such a dangerous and incalculable situation? This is what is answered in this entire first season (which I confess, is the only season that I accept exists since, for me, the second season doesn't exist). And well, not to mention the elements that make us realize that everything happens in a futuristic and dystopian world where humanity has been practically submerged in slavery to terrifying beings that use them as livestock. In other words, the sci-fi tone mixed with the psychological suspense that the series handles with elements of terror and mystery makes it one of my favorite works of the genre, without a doubt.

¿A dónde?
On the other hand, let's talk now about the animation, which is in charge of one of the best animation studios that exist today, CloverWorks. The animation work is praiseworthy in this series, as we can see in terms of the drawing style, the details, the fluidity of each scene or panel how excellently done everything is. The moments of tension, the expressions, the way of illustrating scenarios that can leave you with your heart in your hand and your head turned to smoke is something that this studio does very well. Not to mention the sound effects, which are also very well done and perfectly convey what each shot or sequence is trying to demonstrate, with visual effects that are just as excellent and appealing to the eye. The soundtrack of this anime is, without a doubt, what I love the most, apart from its story, animation and everything else. Standing out very well in scenes of suspense and terror, the way of using both the sound effects, the soundtrack and even the silences themselves is something incredible. Mixing all this together it is evident why I say at the beginning that it is a masterpiece, because it is. However, the only sad detail is the fiasco of its second season, which ruined everything by changing the story and many things, making it something not at all similar to what we see in this first season. That's why it is no longer among the first of my "Top 5 Best Horror Anime". But that doesn't take away from the fact that I don't recommend it, at least its first season.
Personally, I give it a 9/10 rating as far as the horror, psychological suspense and sci-fi genre is concerned.

›Review of the Comic/Manga The Promised Neverland (Yakusoku No Neverland) Volume 1@faisalhanafih1917d
Hi, I am a mangalover from Indonesia. On this occasion, I would like to give a review related to the comic I read and wow it was very special.
Book information:
Comic Title: The Promised Neverland Volume 1
Story: Kaiu Shirai
Art: Posuka Demizu
Publisher: PT Elex Media Komputindo, Origin (Japan): SHUEISHA INC.
Year of publication: 2019, Origin (Japan): 2016
Genre: Boys Comics
Java Price: IDR 25,000
I have no words how brilliant this comic is. From the first chapter alone, I have been very impressed with this comic. Be Careful! It can stir your heart as you read it, because it's so cool!
This comic tells the story of the children at the Grace Field House orphanage. Emma, the main character who has this brave character, along with Ray, Norman, and other children live a happy life at Grace Field (GF) House. Until one day Emma and Norman learned something from GF House that made them disappointed and worried. They find out the heinous truth behind the existence of GF House. This orphanage turned out to be under the guise of something terrible. What is that terrible thing? Please read for yourself.
This initial volume contains 7 chapters, namely:
"Grace Field House" (GFハウス, Gurēsu Fīrudo Hausu)
"The Way Out" (出口, Deguchi), "Jalan Keluar" in Indonesia
"The Iron Woman" (鉄の女, Tetsu no on'na), "Sang Wanita Besi" in Indonesia
"The Best Option" (“最善”, Saizen), "Pilihan Terbaik" in Indonesia
"She Got Us!" (やられた!, Yarareta!), "Kami Diperdayai" in Indonesia
"Carol and Krone" (キャロルとクローネ, Kyaroru to Kurōne), "Carol dan Krone" in Indonesia"
"We're Counting on You" (頼んだぞ, Tanonda zo), "Tolong Urus, Ya" in Indonesia
My assessment of this visual / comic art:
Very impressive. Posuka Demizu Sensei is a great artist. Very comfortable to see and read. The combination of pictures and conversation balloons is very on point. It is presented clearly, it is not complicated to read, because there is another comic in one comic box that it is difficult to read.
Like the comics published by Shueisha in general, this comic was successful. How come? This comic is successful not without reason. This very neat story makes you feel mixed up. The characters also amaze and inspire you.
For your information, Shueisha is 1 of the 3 biggest manga publishers in Japan (Shueisha, Kodansha, and Shogakukan). Shueisha has published manga in the list of best-selling manga in the world such as One Piece, Naruto, Dragon Ball, Bleach. The current popular Kimetsu No Yaiba (Demon Slayer) is from Shueisha as well.
This manga (The Promised Neverland) is a masterpiece that caught the attention of many people. When you're done reading this volume 1, you'll want to continue reading the next volume. The story is also not hard to read. Exciting, moving, and makes you wonder what happened next.
I think that's all my review of this great comic, hopefully it will catch your eye. I end with thanks. See you in my next post.
›The Promised Neverland – Be Prepared to Get Really Sad.@dlstudios2657d
There is a lot I can't tell you about this show that makes it so good, so here is the most I'll say about the plot without spoiling any twists past the first episode. The show follows around a group of orphans awaiting adoption, though all the kids here have spent their whole lives here. The premise comes when two of the kids realize that the orphanage is actually a farm where children are being raised to feed monsters that exist on the outside, and that 'Mom', their caretaker, knows full well what she has been doing.
From here the show becomes a mix of things. There is a bit of horror to the plot, you see clashing ideals of whether they should try to save everyone, and a heavy thriller aspect to the story as the children try to find a way to escape before they get harvested. The show largely focuses on Emma, Ray, and Norman. They are the three oldest and get the highest scores on their tests. It is these three who are orchestrating the escape itself.
The first area the show truly shines is how distinct each of the characters is, and at the same time how genuine their connections feel. You have the eternal optimist that is Emma, and her almost polar opposite in Ray. Norman is kind of stuck between the two, and as most of the focus is on him in the early parts of the show it feels as though how things will turn out is on his shoulders for how he plays it. Most kids in this orphanage really look up to Norman, and that helps the dynamic work that much better. Any decision he makes is going to have a lot more of an emotional impact than the other two because of these factors.
From here the idea of the show is simple, the three prodigies do whatever they can to get ready for the escape, whether or not that includes all the other kids will be revealed by the end of the season, all while trying to evade Mom and keep there plans safe while trying to escape before any more children are harvested.
The show does a great job at trickling information to you as time progresses, giving you clues as to what the outside world is like, the system behind these 'farms', and the effects that this system has on the Mothers that run them. Despite the whole first season taking place in the orphanage, I do feel I have a good grasp of how this world works, and it never felt like the show was just shoving information at me for the sake of having it.
Another thing I'm fond of, and this holds true especially for Emma and Ray, is that despite them being incredibly intelligent for their age, able to conduct plans you would not expect out of children, the show never forgets that they are still in fact children. You don't walk away from any of this thinking that they don't feel realistic, you walk away feeling like these kids have incredible strength for doing what they are able to do.
The show is really held together as well by Mom, who is an absolutely fantastic villain. The way she is able to keep up her appearance to most of the children while working to undermine the escape attempts of our lead characters is fantastic, and the more you learn about her the better a villain she becomes. The circumstances behind being a Mother of one of the farms adds so much more to her as well, and in a lot of ways, I find it really hard to hate her by the season's end.
It's also a show that manages to look fantastic despite the lack of variety in the scenery. The only real locations over twelve episodes are the house they all live in, the forest surrounding it, the wall that goes around the area, and the gate entrance. The real focus of all the shots remains on the characters, who are incredibly lifelike and expressive. My favorite is Norman, especially his smile. I know that's something small to point out, but it is so incredibly sincere and it feels genuine. I can't even hint at my favorite moment of his in this show, as it's a huge spoiler, but he easily walks away as the best character of the show.
There is very little to criticize here. If there is one thing worth noting, it's that at times the logic some characters use can feel like a bit of a stretch. It's nothing as bad as the end of Deathnote, but there are a couple of instances where we just have to accept a character knows something because that's how smart they are, and not be given any actual reason to how they know what they do. Thankfully there are only a couple instances of this, and neither one of them are too egregious.
It's not often I come across a show this good with so little to criticize. The story told in this first season was amazingly paced, I care about every character, and the story can be both heartbreaking and uplifting. I love seeing how the characters change, and the compromises they have to make to reach the end of the season, and I can't wait for another season to be announced. It is an ending that while it leaves you wanting more, they did manage to tell a complete story. So I highly recommend this show under one condition. Know that you are in fact going to be watching children suffer, and that can be hard for some people. But if you can do that kind of show, this is a must watch this season.
