The Reader (Der Vorleser) is an acclaimed 1995 novel by Bernhard Schlink, adapted into a film in 2008.
A story that teaches us that not everything is as it seems. I came across this film by pure chance; honestly, I thought it was just another love story, but I was curious to see it because of the lead actress, Kate Winslet. I love this actress and her acting; I've seen most of her films, and they're spectacular.

Because of this, I was motivated to watch it. At first, it seemed a little slow, but I think that's how the story gradually draws you in. I realized almost instantly that it was a film that handled the plot in retrospect. The male character, played by Ralph Fiennes in his adulthood, remembers his teenage self, played by David Kross.
The plot begins when a mature woman, Kate Winslet as Hannah Schmitz, enters into a relationship with a teenager, David Kross as young Michael Berg. I assumed the plot would revolve around the conflicts and consequences of this somewhat disturbing relationship, but as it unfolds, this turns out to be the least of it. Hannah Schmitz struck me as a troubled woman with certain personality issues; her lack of sensitivity and the air of mystery surrounding her intrigued me. However, the boy inspired a great deal of tenderness in me because of his ability to perceive his surroundings in such a sensitive way. Despite being a teenager, he seemed very mature, which contrasted sharply with the coldness of the woman he loved.
I was surprised by the plot twist and the story's ability to immerse you in a whirlwind of emotions, making you rethink how you perceive such tragic and confusing situations, where you feel that events can change your perspective depending on how you view them.

It's a film you have to see to reconsider or reaffirm the decisions you would have made if you had been in Hanna Schmitz's or Michael Berg's shoes.

Kate Winslet's performance was spectacular, earning her an Oscar for Best Actress for this role in 2009; undoubtedly well deserved. Her portrayal of a cold, calculating, enigmatic, and yet profoundly ignorant woman leaves everyone speechless. For me, it's one of her best performances.

La actuación de Kate Winslet fue espectacular, mereciéndole un premio Oscar como mejor actriz por este papel en el año 2009; sin duda, bien merecido. Su forma de representar a una mujer fría, calculadora, enigmática y, a la vez, profundamente ignorante deja con la boca abierta a cualquiera. Para mí, es una de las mejores dramatizaciones que ha hecho.
