   What a Fun Experience. "We are not Angels" 1989.

   When I saw the ad for this movie on FX Movies channel (former Film Zone), I didn't even dare to touch the remote to change it. When I saw the cast, I already knew what was waiting for me "Entertainment and laughter", however after so many years and inevitably, I was approached by other feelings, such as concern for the characters and some prejudices hahaha (I confess); and that has happened to me because I have paid such attention to it, that I felt immersed in the plot, accompanying its witty characters. Turning the moment into a great experience.

   Cuando vi el anuncio de esta película en el canal FX Movies (antiguo Film Zone), ni me atreví a tocar el control para cambiarlo. Al ver el elenco ya sabía lo que me esperaba “Entretenimiento y risas”, sin embargo luego de tantos años y de manera inevitable, me abordaron otros sentimientos, tales como preocupación por los personajes y algo de prejuicios jajaja (lo confieso); y eso me ha sucedido porque le he prestado tal atención, que me sentí inmerso en la trama, acompañando a sus ocurrentes personajes. Convirtiendo el momento, en una gran experiencia.

   However, being a fun film, I do not condemn this detail (and the subsequent ones), so these "now fugitives" from justice, run for their lives in the cold climate of the border between the United States and Canada, taking refuge in a small town next to the border bridge. From this moment on, the characters played by (none other than) Sean Penn and Robert De Niro, go through all kinds of situations, some funny, others tense, but all of them fulfilling the premise of having a good time.

   Sin embargo, por tratarse de una cinta divertida, no le condeno para nada este detalle (y los posteriores), así que estos “ahora prófugos” de la justicia, corren por sus vidas en el frío clima de la frontera entre Estados Unidos y Canadá, refugiándose en un pequeño pueblo contiguo al puente limítrofe. A partir de este momento, los personajes interpretados (nada más y nada menos que) por Sean Penn y Robert De Niro, atraviesan toda clase de situaciones, algunas divertidas otras de tensión, pero todas cumpliendo con la premisa de hacer pasar un momento agradable.

   El filme llega a su punto álgido, cuando estos bonachones ex presidiarios, son confundidos con dos religiosos de la iglesia católica predominante en el pueblo (Los padres Brown y Reilly), siendo tratados con afecto y respeto por todos los habitantes, incluso las autoridades policiales. Así es como, lo que en un principio les desagradaba, terminó por convertirse en la mejor manera para evadir la ley (que paradójico), además contaban con comida y un techo seguro, mientras planeaban la manera de cruzar el puente hacia la “libertad plena” en el país vecino (Canadá). No obstante, era un verdadero lío cuando les preguntaban por sus experiencias con la iglesia y sus famosos escritos religiosos jajaja, porque se enredaban sin saber qué decir.

   Despite some details of mere logic, I took them as part of the fun and funny of the movie, such as the fact that they were completely unaware of the holy scriptures and that the young monk did not notice that "father" Brown was smoking in his room hahaha. So Ted and Jim's dangerous but enjoyable adventure was going on as they watched from afar their only hope, represented in crossing that bridge full of guards. I found a fantastic and risky message, the use of the statue of the crying virgin, when the priest of the monastery thanks Ted (De Niro) because his writings on the subject, have rescued the lost faith, knowing that it was only a leak in the roof; but then when they were about to be captured, they ask for his help from the heart and from the wooden statue, tears come out when they are outside the enclosure.

   A pesar de algunos detalles de mera lógica, los tomé como parte de los chistoso y divertido de la película, como el hecho de que desconocían por completo las sagradas escrituras y que el joven monje, no notó que el “padre” Brown estaba fumando en su habitación jajaja. Entonces la peligrosa pero amena aventura de Ted y Jim, transcurría mientras observaban de lejos su única esperanza, representada en cruzar aquel puente lleno de guardias. Me resultó un mensaje fantástico y arriesgado, la utilización de la estatua de la virgen que llora, cuando el sacerdote del monasterio le agradece a Ted (De Niro) porque sus escritos sobre el tema, han rescatado la fe perdida, a sabiendas de que se tratara solamente de una gotera en el techo; pero luego cuando ellos estaban a punto de ser capturados, le piden de corazón su ayuda y de la estatua de madera, salen lágrimas estando fuera del recinto.

   Esta “pequeña” falta de respeto, es enmendada por el director del filme, cuando en la escena cumbre, la niña cae al caudaloso río y Ted, consciente de que no sabe nadar, se lanza a rescatarla logrando salir del agua, de la mano de la estatua de madera, que por su composición puede flotar. Lo cual es considerado un verdadero milagro. En lo personal sí creo en los milagros y estos ocurren cuando se le pide con fe y sinceridad a nuestro Padre Celestial. Ha sido una experiencia maravillosa; y debo reconocer que tampoco recordaba el final hasta que lo volvía a ver jajaja. Por eso lo comparto hoy con ustedes.
