  1. What Happened to Monday (film): A decent idea with a strange casting decision@netflixr362d

I really enjoy sci-fi but I realize that it is likely one of the most difficult genres to do properly because of the visuals required in creating something that is both scientific and also not real - yet.

The description of What Happened to Monday was enough to draw me in because it deals with a topic matter that I believe is actually pretty real to life with overpopulation of the planet being the main focus here.

    image.png src

Alright, so it goes like this: It is an undisclosed period of time in the future and strange things have happened to the human race where it becomes very common for mothers to have twins, triplets, quadruplets, and whatever the things are called that go beyond that. Basically having one child at a time has become rare because of genetic reasons or something. It doesn't really matter it just needs to be accepted in order to move forward.

It is dictated globally that parents are allowed only 1 child and if they have any more than that the other children have to be taken to be put into cryo-stasis or frozen until such a time arrives in the future where the global food-shortage problem has been solved.

A father turned grandfather who lost his daughter decides to raise his daughter's daughters in isolation and in secret so that the government doesn't come and take 6 of them away.

    image.png src

He somehow gets them home to his house and this is where one of the most unrealistic portions of the film, sci-fi or not, kicks in. He lives in an urban area with tons of windows and also shared walls with neighbors in an apartment complex yet somehow he is able to keep the fact that there are 6 damn kids in that apartment a complete secret from everyone for a very long time.

The girls know nothing of the outside world other than what they are told by their grandfather until they are of school-attending age, then grandfather (played wonderfully, as expected, by Willem Dafoe) enrolls them in school and all 7 of the girls have to live the same life but only allowed one day of the week outside of the house. When the girls return home they have to spend a lot of time getting the other girls up to speed on what their shared life is like since they are meant to all be one person.

It's not the best plot because all of this would be considerably easier if they were just to move out to the countryside somewhere but I guess that isn't possible because of the overcrowding aspect of the globe at the time. Whatever! Accept it and move on.

Things are kept really interesting as we jump back and forth in time but the show isn't without its continuity flaws as well as some pretty egregious plot-holes that they do not bother to explain.

    [src](https://cinemaoceania.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/monday-to-sunday-1.jpg?w=600)

They are named after the days of the week because that's easier to remember or something and they all have slightly different characteristics. This makes a lot less sense once they are adults because if they are still sharing days of the week that they are allowed to leave the house, they no longer look the same. In fact, for the sake (I'm guessing) for the audience to try to wrap their heads around who it is that we are looking at during any particular scene, they are very noticeably different looking.

Despite this obvious plot-hole, I was still able to roll with the story but one aspect of this reasonably good plot really gets under my skin and that was the decision to cast Noomi Rapace as the role of all 7 of the kids-turned-adult.

Noomi is a good actress, there is no denying that and whether you realize it or not you probably recognize her from the "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" films - the Swedish ones, not the completely unnecessary Daniel Craig movies that were made in English.

The problem with Noomi is that she speaks English with a pretty thick accent which is fine because she is Swedish. All 7 of her characters have accents to some degree and this makes absolutely no sense considering that the only person that the girls have had any consistent contact with at any point in their lives has been one another and their grandfather Terrance, who sounds like the quintessential neutral-voiced American that he is. So how the hell did they all end up sounding like a Swedish person speaking English?

No matter how you want to look at the world now or in a science-fiction sense, we all end up sounding like the environment that we grow up in... but not the sisters Sunday through Saturday apparently.

I can deal with the fact that they live in an apartment with tons of windows where the shades apparently are never drawn and I can even get on board with neighbors not being affected by the sounds of footsteps above that probably sounded like a house party a great deal of the time yet nobody reported anything whn the present they live in is very much a nanny state of "big brother is watching you." I can accept the fact that they never had access to medical care because they can't go outside of the house for the most part yet none of them ever got sick. I can accept the fact that the girls sneak out of the window safely and wander around when the plot calls for it. I can accept the fact that we spend a large amount of time focusing on their special hiding place in grand detail but the one and only time its used it is discovered almost immediately.

    image.png src

I cannot, however, accept the fact that 7 children raised from birth to adulthood by a man with an American accent all end up sounding like Scandinavians. It wouldn't even be possible to make this happen on purpose as a very long-term joke. It's too much of a stretch, even for a science-fiction film.

I just wonder why did they do this? Noomi was already well past her famous prime by 2017 and she never was really a household name. Maybe she was willing to do it for very little money? She does do an awful lot of acting in this film and it must have taken a very long time and a ton of patience to do the roles of 7 different people who often appear in scenes all at once.

    image.png src

I think the producers were aware of the fact that this film was going to face a tremendous amount of criticism and thus the decision was made to not release it in North American theaters. It didn't have a theatrical run in any native-English speaking country and as far as I can tell it was only released in Europe via France where anything other than a French overdub would probably result in riots.

The rest of the cinema audience was the Asian market which I think we all know is the major target of filmmakers these days anyway. For the rest of the world it was released only on Netflix which is the modern-day equivalent of "straight to DVD ."

    Should I watch it?

Honestly, no, I don't think you should watch it. They try to throw twists in there but if you are even paying halfway attention to the movie you can see them coming from a long ways away and when are revealed your response will be "well, of course."

I knew two major plot "twists" as soon as just one side of it was presented and these were meant to be a misdirection - just not very skillfully presented. I am not very smart either.

Willem Dafoe and Glenn Close are both in this movie, but only just. I feel as though both of them were cast just to pad the cast and Close's performance in particular feels dialed in. I'm not fully convinced that she was actually in the same room as her co-stars during the scenes that she is in because almost all of them are close-ups or shot from behind her. Dafoe's scenes could have been filmed in a single afternoon session as he too appears to not actually be in the same room as the other people he is interacting with in many scenes.

This is very skippable and I would advise that you do so. I can't really even recommend this to die-hard sci-fi fans because there is limited time in a day, and so much other, better stuff to watch. Variety Magazine called the movie "a ludicrous, violent, amusingly dumb sci-fi actioner" and I think that is actually quite the perfect way of describing it.

stay-away.jpg As should be obvious from the write-up, this can be legally streamed on Netflix in most regions

  2. What happened to Monday: having siblings has never been so complicated.@fabian981432d

    Hello everyone...

today I wanted to review a movie that presents a future very close to the current reality, because if we continue like this and the population continues to grow uncontrollably, we may see policies like this to control population growth.

    image.png SOURCE

The movie is "What happened to Monday", this is one of these rare movies that come out on Netflix but ends up being extremely shocking and that you end up recommending to others, both for the plot and for the performance of legendary actors in cinema as the famous Willem Dafoe.

What happened to Monday or 7 sisters as you want to call it, is a science fiction film about a dystopian future where humanity has grown out of control, then apply birth control in the style of China, where parents can have only 1 child per marriage and those who have more than two children have to deliver them to the authorities to sleep and wake up when humanity needs it.

    image.png SOURCE

The story focuses on 7 twins: Monday, Tuesday, wednesday, Thursday, Fryday, Saturday and sunday, and their father Terrence Settman who struggles to raise his daughters and prevent the government from taking them away, because he knows the secrets of this government of what they do with the children they take away.

The 7 twins are named after the days of the week, because since only families can only have 1 child, the 7 twins can only go out on the street on the day of the week which is their name, all the twins must dress the same, act the same and do all the same work in a bank to avoid suspicion, also if any of them suffer any deformity or accident that leaves a scar, they must all have the same to avoid suspicion that they are more than one person.

    image.png SOURCE

Now the plot takes a rather incredible turn when one of the twins betrays them and everything starts to go wrong for the remaining 6 twins. And the most surprising thing is why this twin does it.

My opinion about this movie is a bit confusing, as when I saw the cover I thought it was a Disney movie like mini spies, but when everything turns gore you realize it's not something suitable for the whole family haha.

    image.png SOURCE

Another thing I highlight about this movie is the CGI and special effects they used to make the 7 twins out of one actress, it was extremely surprising, it was something like when in the series el chavo del 8 Mr. belly and namby-pamby came out at the same time. Besides, the plot has its strong and raw point in the middle, although it starts out a bit confusing or without much sense, when it develops you stay glued to the chair and you can't get up for a single moment. But something I didn't like was the continuation of Willem Dafoe's character, as it causes a lot of intrigue, but after a few scenes he doesn't reappear nor is there any mention of him in any meaningful way.

    image.png SOURCE

But would you recommend what happened to Monday? Yes, of course I would, if you want to enjoy an intriguing movie with very dramatic plot twists and an epic ending, I recommend it, I know it may seem like a shoddy SyFy movie at first, but it is extremely impressive.

Also, it has the performance of Willem Dafoe, which in itself a movie improves a lot with his appearance, just look at the last Spiderman movie, they brought Willem Dafoe to play the green goblin and he was the most epic villain of the movie.

In conclusion, if you want to enjoy an excellent movie full of intrigue, action and above all mystery, that le paso a lunes is for you, it is available on Netflix and has a duration of 2 hours, but from start to finish it is addictive.

Here I leave you some trailers so you can see a little of the plot.

  3. WHAT HAPPENED TO MONDAY 2017 My Opinion REVIEW (Esp-Eng)@emilyross371436d

    English

A big greeting to all the Hive Community, today I bring you a very entertaining and gripping Science Fiction and Suspense Movie, written by MAX BOTKIN AND KERRY WILLIAMSON, directed by TOMMY WIRKOLA, it is WHAT HAPPENED TO MONDAY/ QUE PASO CON LUNES 2022.

    What is it about?

It is a Science Fiction movie about a time when there will be overpopulation and not enough food and the government will implement a one-child policy, as multiple children born to the same mother are put in a sleep capsule called a cryosleep, at that time seven sisters are born and the grandfather hides them and put the names of the days of the week, the girls are all called Karen Settman, and pretend to be a person, going out on the street the day that corresponds to them, until Monday did not return, from there the remaining sisters will live terrible moments, well friends see it really is very good.

    Film Characters

    • NAOMI RAPACE: In the role of Karen Settman, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

    • GLENN CLOSE:** In the role of Nicolette Cayman, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday

    • WILLEM DAFOE:** In the role of Terrence Settman grandfather of the seven sisters.

    • CLARA READ:** As Karen Settman, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday as a young woman.

    • MARWAN KENZARI:** In the role of Adrian Knowles boyfriend of Monday.

    Personal Opinion

As I have said before I am not a fan of Science Fiction movies, but this movie caught me, it is loaded with a lot of suspense, I congratulate the writers Max Botkin and Kerry Williamson and of course its director Tommy Wirkola. The plot is really interesting and reflects that man is capable of destroying his own race, it is a movie that makes us think, is there a possibility, if the famine came and there was an overpopulation, governments would decree a strict one-child policy? Excellent performance of Naomi Rapace kept me hooked with her seven characters all different, I did not like the part when they cut the finger of the girls, just because Thursday was left without a finger, with punish her would have been enough (that is not leaving the house), I also think that human beings are losing their moral values, Monday gave his sisters, if you do not give pain your own blood that we expect from others It is a Science Fiction film that shows a reality in a few years 2073, only reflects the destruction of human beings. I recommend you to watch it and let me know if you like it and if you don't, Kisses and Hugs.

  4. What happened to Monday@jaxsonmurph1810d

    image.png

In an overpopulated world of the future while societies around the globe suffer from wide spread famine the European Federation charters a new course and establishes the (CAB) Child Allocation Bureau.

In doing so the Federation creates genetically modified food that can be grow quickly in large quantities enough to sustain only a limited amount of people, but must first curb the population to a managable number.

Every couple is allowed one child, unfortunately due to the food modifications, most women begin to have more than multiple children, creating a human catastrophy, those that do are allocated one child any others that are born are put into a form of cryo sleep, until the population numbers are brought back under control.

In the opening scenes we see a grandfather who's daughter dies while giving birth to Identical septuplets, Seven baby girls the wealthy father makes a decision to hide his grand daughters in a private apartment block, and names the girls after each day of the week Monday through Sunday, from were he teaches them how to remain hidden

    image.png

What follows is a technological masterpiece as the girls each with their own unique talents learn to work together as one person, each only leaving the apartment on the day they have been named after and combining their unique talents to secure a lifestyle using modern technology and their mothers name.

Things get tricky when Monday doesn't return as planned following her day out and the Netflix original sci-fi Thriller begins to really take on an original storyline and a life all of it's own.

The remaining suptuplets must find out what happened to Monday while avoiding the murderous Child allocation Bureau in a daring action packed sci-fi thriller with an apocalyptic feel to it.

    image.png

A brilliantly crafted original movie filled with action, great plots and a story line worthy of a blockbuster, I honestly do not know how I haven't heard of this movie before it's really a great movie.

    THE SOUNDTRACK

The soundtrack is made up of a collection of 24 extended cinematic sounds for each scene which you can find at the following link https://www.soundtrackmania.net/what-happened-to-monday-soundtrack.html/ as well as some tracks that are not included in the original soundtrack list such as

Directed by Tommy Wirkola and Produced by Raffaella De Laurentiis, Fabrice Gianfermi and Philippe Rousselet

Starring Noomi Repace from the girl with the Dragon Tattoo franchise, Glenn Close, Willem Dafoe, Marwan Kenzari, Christian Rubeck, Pål Sverre Hagen, Tomiwa Edun and Cassie Clare

    SYNOPSIS

In a world where families are allowed only one child due to overpopulation, resourceful identical septuplets must avoid governmental execution and dangerous infighting while investigating the disappearance of one of their own.

    MY CONCLUSION

A great all round movie with plenty of gritty action from an all star cast, with unique and original storylines, plots and some hidden twists just waiting to jump out at every corner, If you haven't seen this movie it is exceptionally good fun with a realistic and believable story to watch, I couldn't believe how good it was, Very Enjoyable.
